        I think Windows 8 will turn into another Vista for different reasons. It was smart to have 2 operating systems in one, but the touch features seemed forced. Windows 8 metro (which is ugly to many people) is quite useful for tablets, such as your surface, but is pretty bad for laptops and desktops. Classic mode removed the start menu and Classic must be loaded after the tablet OS side of Windows loads.
        
        MS is losing their footing in the industry and innovation over the past few years. Their software design team aren’t versed in modern/clean visuals and are obsessed with squares, their offerings seem to include forced aspects (power of PC over Mac was about optional advanced customizations), and their Xbox division is becoming bloated and unfocused. Xbox started out trying to get exclusives, being “hardcore”, and having a great online experience. Now there isn’t much movement on exclusive IPs, they are making Kinect their primary focus rather than secondary as well as increased focus on media rather than games, DLC is being abused by publishers, and Live is going up in price over the years but still has advertisements and the features added are only available with an additional external subscription fee.

    They seemed to sold over 12 million copies… so I’d say they feel pretty good and not stupid at all. Personally I like the run and gun arcade style shooters more than team tactical, but I am sure that all the games in the top 20 are pretty happy with their success.
    
    Remember, these are businesses, not little high school students. They are not crying because they weren’t named the prom king or queen of Xbox, instead they are counting their profits from their top 10 played game and figuring out ways to increase their large existing user base to make even more millions of dollars. The same can be said for Activision, Microsoft, 2K, Bethesda, and everyone else on that last, 1st place to 20th place.

Sad to see Halo continue to slip down the charts. Hopefully the Title Update at the end of February will save what population there is left in the game.

I always like to see how well XBLA games that go on sale do on these charts. PB Winterbottom and Axel & Pixel got a huge boost thanks to their very nice 75% discount. Even Pool Nation appears to have got a very nice bump with its 50% off sale in the S&S app.

For all the copies of Halo 4 that were shipped out Microsoft still can’t get people to play it. I found it unplayable, a sorry excuse of a COD clone, yet I just rented it.

The people who own it aren’t digging it.

What is even sadder is I rented Black Ops 2 and am loving the multiplayer for it. It is just fun.

    here is what I know, every other halo my friend and I actually cared about beating the single player, halo 4 didn’t have that feeling, in fact on normal mode only 2 of my friends actually beat the game, one started on legendary with me and we haven’t beaten half the game yet, it sucks
    
    in multiplayer of my 80+ friends I got like 2 people who play halo 4, at the same time I know at least 5 are MASSIVE halo fanboys, and 15 really liked one of the halo games in the past ( most halo 2 or 3) this means in my case they lost 13/15 people who liked the series.
    
    now I don’t think the game is like COD or anything, i just think it’s boring. they should remake halo 1 in it’s entirety, same weapons, same health same shield just add online and up the graphics to halo 4/ next gen standards. this is what the fans have wanted but still haven’t gotten it.

Well I helped keep BF3 in the top ten, but in my 5th gold year I am really not getting much from the xbox. Looking back I dont think I have got my moneys worth, Ive had the unique rrod game though. Unlike my Snes or N64 or GC I doubt many of the 60 odd games will be playable either, especially as servers are shut down after a couple of years. All my membership seems to go to is full house poker, homefront or bf online. Kinect was such a bad purchase, useless gimmick. When my mobile contract runs out, I may keep that as Sony Android (having dropped windows with 6.1 and seen no reason to go back) and as I really do not need another cable tv box, see what the PS4 is like. XBOX is just a bad tv streaming device which happens to have a few overrated games on it. Really bad feeling for it now.

I really want Halo 4 to succeed. I haven’t been playing nearly as many games during this time as I did with Reach. There isn’t a good “variety” of playlists. We need more laid back ones like Action Sack and better Custom game support.

  if they had a custom map and game mode browser halo 4 might have actually been good, fans have been asking for it since forge came out and still bungie and now 343 don’t listen, imagine making a map uploading it and starting a match lobby, a few minutes later you got 6+ other people in the match.. you start it up and actually get to play YOUR map, without having to spam invites to random people and friends. those 6 people who liked you map save it, and start their own match of it, eventually you find out 2000 people played your map that day and loved it.
  
  as it is now, even if you have an amazing map, few people will ever play it.

  There’s a great game struggling to burst out from Halo 4 but it almost feels like 343 is trying to hold it back. The campaign was brilliant, SpOps is good if flawed but I can only play the multiplayer for a little before I just think “Jesus Christ…”, shake my head, and play something else.
  
  Meanwhile, Halo 2 PC’s server’s are closing down Feb 15th. Anyone fancy a game?

It’s strange that Happy Wars doesn’t make the top 20 under arcade, even thought it’s a free to play battlegrounds game available around the world. Are there really no people playing this game? I’ve run into lot’s of people who have either not heard about it, or don’t even realize it’s free. I just don’t think it was hyped up properly, or advertised well for that matter. Weird.

  It’s been advertised on the dashboard a lot. They even did a “just play and get 40 free tickets” promotion. I think lots of people tried, didn’t care for it. (Probably why they advertised that they tweeked the gameplay last month.) Also, I think a lot of gamers are wary of microtransaction freemium games. That stuff plays to gullible people on mobile phones but core gamers say no thanks to that scheme.

    Maybe thats true. I myself avoid microtransaction games that would limit my gameplay unless I paid for premium content, i.e. capping my level below premium users, or not being able to aquire items that were as powerful as those sold on a ms point basis. But after playing this game, there are non of those “microtransaction” factors. You can max your level just like anyone else, and items that are free are often, if not always far more powerful than those you can purchase. Well, either way I enjoy this game, and it would be nice if it got more support so they choose to create more free to play games in the future.

  I can’t get that into it, didn’t like the idea of forced multiplayer. Tried playing single player and within a short amount of time got asked if i want to continue the story play multiplayer and level up to a certain level to continue. Really turned me off on that game if i wanted to play multiplayer i would.

  it’s a multi fold problem
  
  first off it’s buggy, and laggy try 3 times to get a match and you can’t get in, at least at launch it took 20 minutes to get 1 match
  
  2nd base rushing, which 1-2 people capture the final base, ruining the game and ending it in like 2 minutes it’s very hard to defend since they can just run away from you. ( the lack of ranged attacks hurts this a lot)
  
  3rd they had a failed launch the first 2 weeks ( which is when I played) it was very fun but hard to get a match, along with base rushing point I made I decided to delete the game and i’m not going to touch it unless both points are fixed, which they won’t be.

  Great game, had some laughs with friends. BUT! When the game was released the lobby searching was damn horrible. We got tired of waiting for so long only to then get halfway through a game and get booted. I don’t care if it’s been patched, I’m bored of it now, eh.

  I could be wrong, but I don’t believe free games are counted in the top XBLA purchases list, since they don’t have to be purchased.
  
  The only exceptions are Pinball FX 2, and Hasbro Family Game Night, which are counted based on DLC purchases, not base game downloads.

if Halo 5 is next gen it will be in a worse state, remember when the 360 came out the games were butchered with half the content that was on the original xbox. tiger woods games had course makers last gen. im putting my money on steam box next gen no doubt about it

  Actually bub it was only the EA sports games that came out with less features (and more problems) than the previous gen when the 360 was launched. Oblivion was easily comparable to Morrowind in scope and features, and a heck of a lot better looking.
  
  And Tiger never had “course makers” per se – some games had it so you could alter holes slightly (called “Tiger Proofing” and was a joke TBQH) or you could make a custom 18, but there was no real course editor like on earlier PC games.

Those are 2 games that never appeared or were up to appear in this ranking if they were sold with their normal prices. They’re not blockbusters or high marketed. They’re even a little “hidden” in the middle of our options.

However, with the discount, the cost was only 200 MSP and they figured in the list.

Is it REALLY that difficult to realize how the things work? Low price, high sales? Impulsive purchase? Things like that?

  Low price, high sales isn’t always a good thing.
  
  Discounting a game by 75% is only worthwhile if you can increase the sales by 4x. If not, you’re losing money compared to leaving it at the normal price.

But it has one critical problem: Not being a game with dedicated servers.
