This is at least the 3rd time Dragon’s Lair has been on sale since September. Personally, I’d like to see the Carnival Games DLC and Body & Brain Connection DLC on sale. (Carnival Games DLC has been on sale before, but it’s been over a year since Monkey Dancin’ Pack was on sale.) I’m sure other Kinect fans have ideas for Kinect Central sales.

I do give MS recognition for a new deal last week, Home Run Stars. I wasn’t personally interested, but nice to have some variety in the sales.

CRapcom “deals” are so far the worst:

- two 8-bit very HARD games to complete and expensive, for ONLY 20% off

- 5 expensives DLCs that are IN the disc, and they have courage to ask the customers that already paid a brand new game, pay AGAIN for contents that supose to be free!

      You know what happens when you stop paying your rental subscription to MS? That copy of Left 4 Dead 2 you paid for becomes worthless. That CoD game you just bought – half of it becomes inaccessible. I guess thats fine though…

      The funny part is all the PSN+ subscribers i’ve ran into claim as long as i keep paying i get to keep those rented games, but how long do you think they will keep PSN+ going on the PS3 once PS4 comes out

        Well there is some truth to that. If you say subscribed you will have access to those games but only as long as you stay subscribed. I have no idea how long they will keep it going, but I would imagine it would carry over on to the PS4. Then again If sony does what I think they are going to do and charge for PSN regardless of PSN+, they might just keep it to sweeten the deal.
        I just have a problem with the way alot of these guys phrase PSN+’s instant game collection. They say they own the games when in reality they are just renting them.. there’s a big difference ya know?
        It’s also the same for 360 when it comes to XBL gold.. we are just renting the online MP portion just like we are renting the service, apps and all it’s features. Same thing as any other subscription for that matter. Even dish and cable subs are rental services.

    As a dad I can tell you that I keep the number of physical discs to a minimum in my house. Halo 4, Forza Horizon and the like are locked away, only to come out when my toddler is asleep. I buy up any Game on Demand I can, and I’ve even put all my movies on a central ‘hub’ then put the physical discs in a bin under our bed.

        I’ve been a Xbox user since the first one and a Xbox Live user for 8 years. Now I’m starting with PS+ and is way better than Gold.
        They give you good games for “free” (inFamous 2, The King of Fighters XIII, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, etc.) and think about it: if you’re paying for the service each year, that’s a really good deal. Then, if you want the games physical format, you could buy them later at a lower price.

I’m not saying these items have to go on sale for me to be happy with the DOTW, but it’s frustrating checking every week and hoping for one of these and then finding the same awful deals several times over. Just give these items a permanent price drop (as well as all other DLC that’s old), and give us real deals on stuff that’s come out in the past six months or so.

  Mass Effect 2 DLC has been on sale numerous times. The You Don’t Know Jack DLC has also been on sale a couple of times as well (as I bought them at half price) and you are better off buying a hard copy of the game as it will be cheaper. The Kinect Sports DLC has also been on sale at least once in the past year.
  
  So the only things on your list that has not been on sale or reduced is the Force Unleashed content and the newest Mass Effect 3 DLC. I agree about the Force Unleashed content as it was overpriced to begin with and should be permanently reduced, especially since it has never been on sale to my recollection (or at least not within the past 2 years).

    ME 2 DLC hasn’t been on sale in at least a year. I know because I’ve been looking for it since before ME 3 came out. For You Don’t Know Jack, I was talking about the GoD, not DLC. Though it may have been on sale in recent memory since I only recently started looking for that one. I don’t remember seeing KS DLC in the past year. I may have missed it, but are you sure you’re not referring to KS2 DLC that was on sale?
    
    Regardless, it all comes back to things needing to have permanent price reductions rather than occasional sales for things that are way overpriced for how long they’ve been available.

  FYI: Be carful with the “Scratch & Match’ discounts, it’s possible to purchase games you already own there again and thus be charged twice for the same the title.(I have over 300 XBLA titles, so it’s hard for me to remember everything I own and getting a refund from LIVE is like pulling teeth, they just need to fix it to where games that you have already purchased show up as purchased, like they do in the Marketplace)

I just downloaded both Megaman 9 AND 10 for free with PS+.

And I bought Earthworm Jim a couple weeks ago for only one dollar on PS3, without needing a subscription.

You can compare consoles all day, and I won’t start that (I had only 360 for years and recently added PS3), but when it comes to the digital stores there is absolutely no comparison. Sony essentially allows companies to set their own prices and sales whenever they want, Microsoft controls all prices themselves, which is why these deals are frequently disappointing.

Since my other comments were apparently moderated: All of next week sales have been on sale before (although not by as much in some cases like Hydrophobia). Mega Man 10 was on sale 3 years ago for LESS. It should be permanently discounted.

Also, I am picking up Dragon Age 2 DLC since I apparently only bought 1 of the 3 last time they went on sale. Although I would have picked it up a while ago if it had been permanently discounted already. look’s like Mirror’s Edge DLC will never get discounted, so I might have to pick it up full price, same goes for Burnout Paradise DLC. Luckily I’m getting Halo Wars Platinum Hits for $15 and I can sell my old Halo Wars to get the DLC for that game. Everything else I want is new and should go on sale eventually (I hope).

The EA Publisher Sale is pretty good, I’m most likely going to be buying a few of the Arcade games they have on offer and I’m buying Hydrophobia the instant it’s on sale because I enjoyed it on Steam that much (got to get those achievements). The only reason I’m not going for DA:O is because I’m just going to buy the Ultimate edition for a few pounds more online, better value for money imo. Impressed with the sales at the moment, we don’t normally get deals as good as this.

        Well original Xbox support ceased in 2010 and that console wasn’t anywhere near as heavily invested in DLC and suchlike so I’m not so worried about that aspect.
        
        Also fun fact, the last Xbox game launched in 2008, Madden 09. Although that’s EA for you, still releasing FIFAs on the PS2 so take that with a heavy pinch of salt.
        Also some developers released versions of their games for both Xbox and Xbox 360 such as Just Cause and Tomb Raider Legend, we could see that again.

Oh Crapcom. I think someone swapped the content and the price cut values. Should have been 640 off the Megaman games after this long, surely? At 160 they’d sell like hotcakes!
Mind you the SFxT CONtent is too expensive at any cost since it’s just unlocking content that’s ALREADY ON THE DISC.

Meanwhile, Good Guy Ubi slashes the Scott Pilgrim Online pack from 400 to 160. I’ll be picking that up now and anyone who owns the game should too.
Seems like an appropriate time to cut the price of the game and the first DLC pack, no?

Orcs Must Die is a good game. Good to see you keep promoting it.
But it would be even better if you can bring OMD2 to xbox. It added 2 player coop and survival mode. It was one of the reasons that I moved to Steam. But I still hope to play it with my xbox friends.

Hydrophobia is an incomplete game. It’s not even an open ending. The story ends suddenly in the middle of somewhere, because it was supposed to be an episodic game. The real (sort of) ending only exist in the PSN and PC versions, which were released later. Developer said they wanted to put the complete version onto XBLA, but MS (the publisher) didn’t agree .Don’t you think it’s a bit irresponsible to keep promoting it to more xbox players?

  That’s not entirely true. Dark Energy Digital gave Hydrophobia a “pure” update to the original XBLA version after negative feedback, then went on to make more changes for the port entitled Hydrophobia Prophecy. Prophecy changed key plot points and gave the game an ending of sorts, probably because they knew it would never get past episode 1.
  
  Dark Energy Digital had no idea what they were doing and they’ve now gone bust so the Hydrophobia series will stay where it belongs, Davy Jones’ locker.
  
  This does lead me to another point though. PSN exclusives seldom leave PSN yet XBLA exclusives often leave XBLA, sometimes with more content. Stop it.

Game on Demand – Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 what can I say LOL. High Street shop retail price £40, Amazon online retail +delivery to your door £40. Games on Demand price £50! Hmm do I pay £40 for a physical product I can get delivered to my door or £50 for a digital product?

As a footnote why does a UK digital product cost £50 or $79 whilst is exact same product in exact same format cost the US $60 or £39? They are both sent via a US server and paid directly to a US company so Tax isn’t an issue.

Just no. Don’t buy a Wii U for awhile lol. I totally regret buying one for Christmas. Mario is ok but over quickly and totally forgettable and honestly, that’s about the only game worth buying as the rest are on the other systems.

However, I am getting Lego City and Rayman for the GF (I don’t play the lego games much but do love Rayman) and that’s the only reason I haven’t sold it on ebay. Now sure, down the road it will be worth it but I wouldn’t waste the money now. Just a heads up unless you like the ports on the Wii U better.

Also, they are sticking to the current XBL model until next gen. I hope they change it around by then and from what I have “heard” it looks like big changes are in the cards. I love my Xbox and will continue to support MS first and foremost but I do hope they change things up a bit and get better deals rolling come next gen.

I prefer Digital Distribution which I know MS is fully getting behind with Windows , WP8 and Xbox, but I hope they realize buying something with NO retail packaging means the price should drop a bit, not stay at full retail prices. I have been an XBL member since beta and have never minded spending all of $40 a year to join considering XBL is easier on the eyes and the speed still kills anything sony is doing (psn and psn+ is still slow as hell).

But to each his own, I’ll wait it out and see what changes come in the future.

  1. I won’t buy a Wii U until the inevitable price drop when MS and Sony release their new systems. That gives me time to finish up my Xbox games before I sell them. By then SSB and the new Zelda should be out, plus I want Wind Waker since I never had a GCN. Not to mention Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword (yeah, don’t have a Wii either). Four Zeldas and Super Smash Bros is enough for me to return to Nintendo. Plus the Virtual Console, Bayonetta 2 and Rayman Legends would be awesome. As for games on other systems, since I hate the PS controller and MS doesn’t understand digital distribution, I think Wii U will be my go to platform of choice for multiplatform games.
  
  2. Big changes in the cards next gen is too late, if they can’t get it right now even with basic stuff, I doubt they’ll be any better when the new system comes alone.
  
  i. They need to get rid of their proprietary hard drives, which they likely won’t, because it increases security. They could stick with the cloud, but space is expensive and the customers will likely have to pay through the nose for it. So I don’t see them having a reasonable storage option for the next Xbox. Wii U already has a better option, so another plus for it.
  
  ii. They don’t understand pricing for digital items. If they have a good pricing scheme ready for next gen, they should just implement it, because the current one (apparently “supply and demand”) is atrocious. Old items never get discounted and that annoys me the most. I have to do a bit more research on Wii U’s digital offerings, but at least the Virtual Console games seem reasonably priced (meaning less than everything on the XBL Marketplace), plus apparently they’re selling games for like 30c as a countdown to the Virtual Console launch, which sounds like an awesome deal to me.
  
  iii. Deal of the week is a joke, the EA sale is decent, but most of the stuff on that sale has been on sale before also and should have been discounted already PERMANENTLY. The Marketplace is broken and needs to be fixed NOW, not next gen. So many people have complained and yet they’re not doing anything. It’s not like anybody is stopping them from discounting items (otherwise, how would we have Steam sales?), they’re just greedy and don’t care about their customers. Honestly, that’s the big turn off for me, the fact that prices never seem to drop, I’ve been waiting years for the Mirror’s Edge DLC, Halo Wars DLC and Burnout Paradise DLC to drop in price and while they may have been discounted at some point, I didn’t have the game at the time and never picked it up and now I have to pay $10 for DLC for an old game that I’m sure no one is buying DLC for, yet “supply and demand” says they shouldn’t drop the price.

    I can understand what you said but at the same time point out a few things. Notice how you are getting a Wii U to play OLD games? Any of the big games you want are still 1 1/2 to 2 years off at best which is a joke, but how Nintendo does it.
    
    While I to like to play an old game here n there, I would never spend top dollar on a brand new system to then play older / past system games because there isn’t anything NEW worth buying. Again, to each his own
    
    I do agree with you about MS on the DD end of things on XBL. It drives me nuts they (and it’s not just them that do it either) charge retail pricing for digital games. That should not happen as there should be a discount on EVERY game (not DLC since DLC is already, um, digital).
    
    Older games should go down in price as well as the DLC for it. I really hope MS and the other guys start to realize this and start making adjustments (now would be nice).
    
    If it wasn’t for the lego game and Rayman coming out I would have sold my Wii U by now as it just isn’t worth the cost. But it’s like all systems, they have their ups n downs and they can always take notes from one another.

netflix isn’t free, you pay for it separately. I’m not familiar with all the apps that you pay for within xbox live, but the ones I have seen you are paying for a reason its just a matter of opinion if the cost is worth what you get.

if overpriced and above the market-price “deals” are Xbox Live’s logic in treating the customer, I’m kinda worried about what we can expect as a pricing point for the next gen console and accessories expected to drop this November. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if they pull what Apple did with their ridiculously priced 128gb iPad – give us a console at a cheap price with barely any HDD, but if you want the HDD space you will need with HD and the increasingly large digital components you have to pay a fortune. Is we aim to pilfer the official Xbox motto yet?

I’m guessing part of the reason the sales have not been so great is because while MS doesn’t want to hurt 360 sales by not having ~any~ sales, but they don’t want to promote the 360 either per-se with a new console coming out in nine-ish months.

It also makes me wonder how long before they cut LIVE support for the 360 once the new system comes out in order to force people to the new console. I’ll give it 12 to 18 months before the 360 gets cut off like the original Xbox did. But this time it will be felt a lot more as the 360 is far more online centric.

Actually what you said above couldn’t be further from the truth as Party Chat is far from the only additional feature you get with XBL gold. When I weigh in all the pros the service provides it is completely justified as true value to me. I can’t argue with the fact that you would rather rent games than own them as that is simply your personal preference. But I’m sure you can understand that not only do I never buy used games or rent, I’m a collector. I like to own my games and I certainly don’t trade them in when I finish them like I used to when I was a teenager.

With all due respect, you are telling me things I already am aware of. If you want to look at XBL as renting the MP portion of our games, that’s fine, and there is alot of truth to it. The way I see it though is I see it as a complete package deal.. Access to all apps, discounts, early demos, betas, online mp, cloud storage etc. This is how I look at it.

However there are many things I don’t agree with with the way MS handles things.. The ads us gold subscribers are being subjected to as well requiring Gold to access things that are completely free elsewhere.

Just showing you I’m not a fanboy of anykind.. I have no problem reaming MS a new one when I feel something isn’t right. Having adds on a premium paid for internet service is disgusting based on priniciple alone. Just because the adds are no big deal to me.. based on principle they are.
