off topic but an eidos dev in an interview confirmed DRM for the next box so you cannot sell your games, this means you don’t own them, any comment? can you confirm this rumor? I’d like to know i I should avoid nextbox all together or actually continue hoping for the best.

If PC’s can get away with it, what’s the deal? I’m not getting it because there are no games for it, but I just love the hypocrisy just because it’s M$ doing this. No-one would care if it was anyone else. I mean, you won’t be able to play used games on Steambox, and everyone’s ok with that. So, why vilify Xbox? Unless it’s the “in” thing to do and you really don’t want them to succeed, which is fine actually.

actually if if PS4 does it i won’t get that either, the only reason PC gets away with it is because games are much cheaper over there. if xbox and ps4 block actually owning games I might as well go PC only since i’l get things cheaper. the used game market helps fuel new game markets on consoles, it’s gonna be a rude awakening for anyone who blocked usedgames when software sales are actually cut down dramatically. hopefully we will have some government action as well, you shouldn’t be able to sell licences to games like this.

I doubt that PS4 would do that. M$ seems like the only people that would do this. I’d be surprised if they weren’t. That’s how far their greed goes.

rumors have it being on both consoles, but they are simply rumors, the problem is almost all major rumors in the past have been true or true to a certain degree. I’m not ruling anything out as that is naive.

I’m on the fence as well. If the next xbox has no used games or constant online connection is a deal breaker for me, and I would just break down and either get a Wii U or a PS4. As I like to get used games here and there that i’ve never heard of and give them a shot for something different, and as far as constant internet connection I dunno about the rest of you but somewhere down the road i’d want to break out the system and play some old games like I do with my Nes/N64 who would want to spend all the money, and find out later that when they drop support and next console is out all the games and system is worthless.

You are fully correct. The steambox did spawn a new level of hypocrisy among gamers. Valve is good, Microsoft is evil, and all that.

In steam’s defense: They do lower the price of their games regularily, turning them into really good deals pretty fast. While there might be people that want to sell used games, there is little incentive to buy used used games on steam because of this.

Steam is not to be underestimated this new generation. While Valve has no official plans until 2014, the first 3th party steambox eligible hardware (basically, low power, sff, yet relatively powerful) is already trickling in. Windows 8 booting straight into Steam Big Picture mode with XBMC as launchable app: All in a small silent box below your television, completely controlled with your xbox controller: The new consoles will have to try really hard to top that.

Still, about the used games: Believe none of the rumours. There might be some that happen to be true, but you know most are nonsense, and there is really no way to know, unless you work for Microsoft.

The fanboy war that is starting a bit too soon doesn’t help either. You see links on twitter to people comparing the most likely fake and obviously incomplete specs of the ps4 and the xbox720 (or however you want to call them) and already declaring winners. I do know Microsoft will have to make some major changes to their pricing strategy (subscription prive VS features, long term game pricing) if they want to survive.

Instead of trying to ask Major Nelson, you would want to ask someone who actually knows.

They aren’t really letting loose anything except what they do by “leaks” to somewhat gauge public opinion. I don’t know, Xbox is the last thing to own if you enjoy games.

PS4 announcement on Wednesday, thank God.

worth a shot, it’s not like I can ask random dev about it, NDA and whatnot. it would be an awesome PR move if major nelson denied the rumor though, it would put my, and many other gamers minds at ease.
