    Awesome! Now THATS a sale.

  • https://live.xbox.com/MyXbox/Profile?gamertag=DarkGin87 Lee Rayson (DarkGin87)

Not touching any of them(though I have most of them anyhow) but till I know what content will or will not carry over then I see no point buying anything digital anymore

Smart man, I’m doing the same as well.

      • https://live.xbox.com/MyXbox/Profile?gamertag=DarkGin87 Lee Rayson (DarkGin87)

An if next gen isn’t backwards compatible that’s me done with console gaming

i hope the DLC Go on sale too if not i am piss

My favorite game by the way is Halo 4 :D

  • Sanglant

lmfao. Key words: “up to”. need i point out that most of the games that will be 75% or 85% will likely be the same price to get them used at Gamestop. the other issue I have is how the heck you justify DLC for games not drastically being reduced or made free permanently. I mean Call of Duty 2 & 3 are 7+ and 5+ years old respectively and the DLC is still full price. you can still find MP games too yet gamers like me who bought the DLC originally haven’t been able to use it for years. There is absolutely no logic u can use to justify this. I dare MAJOR NELSON to respond to this, but I’ll honestly take you simply making it happen relatively soon instead if need be. there should be progressive price reduction on DLC, its not like people will wait 3+ years to buy DLC for new games if you do. show your consumers some respect, please.

    • Nick Peck

Um, MS doesn’t set all of the prices bud, that’s up to the dev’s 99% of the time. Go to gamestop and buy Black Ops used for $40 still lol. I love people like you that act like it’s “only” MS, it’s everyone! psn has the same content for the same price unless it’s on a sale, same with the eshop and any other digital distribution.
Even steam games are full price unless on sale…. /sigh

      • Sanglant

lol you’re such a tool. its well known MS has ultimate control, there was even a controversy when Epic Studios wanted to make a DLC mp map pack free and MS refused and forced them to charge for it…4 months later after release it was made free but MS got their way. why? they get money from it, and most DLC is bought in the initial months. Explain why some free content over the years (ie: a Gears 2 DLC) was unavailable internationally without legal or censorship issues? MS is master of their platform, irregardless of what the setup is on Steam or the PSN. thanks for coming out though

  • Ricky Simpkin

this feed is proof alone if the nextbox is backwards compatible for dlc and discs it will sell better, i have no doubt these comments will be read by people that matter, whether they can make a difference time will tell…

    • Sanglant

really, cuz the general consensus is that its proof it won’t be. I can see it being backwards compatible but only via GoD, they don’t make money via disc and MS has shown it puts money first, consumer second rather than going hand in hand. just look at the GoD being so high above the true market value, especially with really old games.

  • http://twitter.com/JGLives Aggie In DC

Jericho, it is a fantastic show and I love that Xbox gave the first episode of season 2 for free. Made my choice clear where to watch it altogether.

  • http://profiles.google.com/harrypottersdaddy Harry Potter

We need bigger, cheaper hard drives!

    • Sanglant

you don’t like paying the same price as a 3 TB external to get a 320gb xbox HDD?

      • Nick Peck

Or go on newegg and find a 320 gb for like $40 -60. Seen it many times but I just don’t need another HD so I’m not worried about it personally.

        • Sanglant

yeah, I’d love to deal with shipping and warranty issues if it blows up on me. no thx, if I can’t get it affordable at a retail outlet, I’m not wasting my money on a gamble. the fact that it can be obtained at that price shows you how overpriced it is. looks like 3rd time isn’t the charm for you.

  • Russell Gorall

Are you that lonely that you have to ask for Twitter followers with everything?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002588078989 Mark Morris

Sony and Microsoft are greedy they will screw us over with these future consoles.

    • Nick Peck

So don’t buy them and get “screwed”? No one is twisting your arm to buy into anything :D

  • Jerrod Sutherland

Please, just tell me one thing: are you going to do another craaaaazy larry vid for this?!?

  • http://twitter.com/ArmedMr_piggy Ryan DeCamp

I will continue buying Microsoft items if the next console has backwards compatibility and can allow our previously downloaded can be transferred to the Xbox “Durango” as I have seen it called on other rumor mills, and even if it has this I will not purchase it if it cannot use used games. I have over 45 games that I play that I have purchased new only because I can get money for my used games as trade in credit.

    • MrRadiolips

Im more worried about these self owned businesses who sell us the used games. They will not be able to support their lives and their children because they will lose the income due to going out of business It IS completely EVIL to be so desperate for money to take away peoples paychecks for a profit. That is a warped structure in business.

      • Nick Peck

It’s called business and happens every day. Yes it sucks but that’s just how it is :(

    • Ary

U have a point buying used games at stores is better so u can resale them later. Buying digital with no backwads compatile support = u lose money at the end regardlesss of the price on sale now of digital.

  • Lord Elric

Sounds decent. A few stiffs in there, but that’s to be expected.
Hopefully these are all GOTY editions as most of them are older titles. Would’ve been nice also to have had all of the Tomb raider games, maybe even as a bundle, with the new one coming up and all. Will still be keeping an eye on this.

  • http://twitter.com/AGRawrisBored AGRawr is Bored

I love how people are bitching about the sale. The next Xbox won’t be out for 6 months at the earliest. And even if they won’t work on the new Xbox, you still have them, you can still play them, and if you choose to sell your Xbox 360 for the next gen, that’s all on you. If i sell my copy of Halo Reach to get Halo 4, i don’t expect to be able to play everything from Reach still.

And if you’re assuming they won’t have backwards compatibility you’re foolish. They had it 7 years ago for a handful of games. Why would they suddenly not do it at all?

    • http://twitter.com/toohats toohats

I think they are asking for the security of being able to play the game in future if they buy it. It would be nice for those that ‘collect many games’ on sale, that they want to play at their lesure. Seems to be a reasonable request.

    • Ary

THE PROBLEM IS THEY CUT ONLINE MATCHAMKING PVP ETC SUPPORT FOR MY OLD GAMES to fast, I buy games when they have decent price but dont exactly play them quick( i have a life job wife kid etc) so I fear if i buy a game I wont even have time to play it online before suppport is over. (solution wold be buy less games?)

  • MrRadiolips

Enter complaint here–> Stop complaining ….that is all!

  • http://twitter.com/ItsJonHartley Jon Hartley

So, tomorrow are a few games going to magically disappear from this list, like with the Dawnguard DLC for Skyrim that was removed from the Gold Deal of the Week sale?

  • http://www.facebook.com/lakaumbucha Ricky Ricardo Lakaumbucha Pean

Yeah that 17 cents (if you didn’t get live on sale) a day to play on line truely was outrageous.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lakaumbucha Ricky Ricardo Lakaumbucha Pean

I rounded up to exaggerate the ridiculously high price a little. :)

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-Benn/100003242105182 James Benn

The argument cuts both ways, considering it’s as low as you suggest why not phase it out altogether and deliver value in other ways as Sony has been doing? i.e. instead of ‘punishing’ by withholding functionality e.g. delaying access to demos, disabling online gaming / NetFlix etc, unless you pay for membership; Sony ‘rewards’ members by giving them games… the latter seems a hell of a lot more progressive.

        • http://www.facebook.com/lakaumbucha Ricky Ricardo Lakaumbucha Pean

I have a ps3 and Sony has never given me a single game. Whatchu talkin bout yo? PS+ is a rental service.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-Benn/100003242105182 James Benn

Ok so rental – my point still stands Microsoft prefer to punish non-subscribers vs Sony preferring to reward subscribers.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lakaumbucha Ricky Ricardo Lakaumbucha Pean

If I am able to get dirt 2 and re4 for 10 smackers I will be very well pleased. I already own everything else or have no interest in anything else on the list.

  • ryder4life22187

I highly doubt we will see any of the good games on this list go anything close to 75 or 85 percent off. Most of the newer titles we will probably see be at maximum 25 percent off.

  • TheRequiem95

Ladies and gentlemen, here is your confirmation that the next Xbox will not play your old digital content. Buyers beware.

    • lagrew

thats ok as long as my gamerscore transfers im fine. Ill keep my old box plugged in.

  • http://twitter.com/leonardomarinho Leonardo Marinho

They announce a big sale and all you guys do is complain about something we don’t even know if is gonna exist (no backwards compatibility). Seriously, gamers like you are worst than the choices Microsoft has made during the end of the generation.

If you don’t want to don’t buy it. If you think its not gonna work on your new console don’t buy it. All you do is complain like a bunch of frustrated morons.

    • Sanglant

you’re the moron expecting we should all be good little slaves and be grateful for something offered to us? WAFL. what you call a big sale is what most call everyday prices at Gamestop. if your satisfied with GOD pricing, you’re not simply in the minority, you’re on a very small island with a very small population.

      • Nick Peck

GoD , Movies on demand, music.. ect is a convenience and you usually pay for it in one way or another. I notice on psn that when a game isn’t on sale, it costs exactly the same as XBL GoD service, as does nintendos eshop. None of those are any cheaper other than for random sales.

I agree that ALL digital sales should be a small % cheaper than retail but that’s across the board as all digital services aren’t as cheap as they should be.

        • Sanglant

PSN is free. PSN+ gets free and discounted content. thanks again for coming out with a flawed and irrelevant argument.

          • Knives_and_Faux

For the nth time, there is no free content on PSN+. The games are leased, stop subscribing to PSN+ and the ‘free games’ go with it.

  • http://twitter.com/redcon redcon

Such negativity here! Thank you Major for the list, I look forward to picking up a few of these games.

The negativity is justified because there is a concern of B/C with our digital games, DLC and other purchases. As you can see Nintendo and Sony both dropped the ball on this stating that none of their digital purchases are transfering over to their next gen consoles. I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to support a corporation that would do that to their install base.

      • http://twitter.com/AGRawrisBored AGRawr is Bored

Because Sony and Nintendo both dropped the ball, that is more reason for Microsoft to make sure BC is possible. And when i buy a game, i expect it to work on the system i buy it on, nothing more than that, if it does, awesome, if it doesn’t, oh well, it never said it would.

        • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

Let’s hope MS does the right thing.. the ball is in their court now.

          • Ary

they have the money to make it happen regardless of the excuses.

        • Nick Peck

I agree. However I will say this, sony is coming off a drastically different animal that was the ps3 so getting all of the ps2/3 games working on the ps4 could only really work via the streaming system they hope to have in place.

The Xbox 360 and the next Xbox will be on the same type of architecture for the most part so I don’t see it being impossible. However, I don’t really care for disc games, but it would be nice to have GoD and XBLA games work on the next system. But even if not, no biggie as I plan on keeping one of my 3 360’s so it’s all good.

        • Ary

      • http://twitter.com/boe2BE Boe2

I don’t really think B/C is any more relevant on digital purchases than with physical disks.

You’d buy discounted physical games if the price is right, but you wouldn’t buy discounted games digitally, because the potential lack of backwards compatiblity is outrageous. That doesn’t make sense, because the end result is the same: If the new console is not BC, you will need to keep your 360 if you want to keep playing them.

That being said, I think Microsoft REALLY wants to offer backwards compatibility (just like sony would want to), it’s a huge selling point, and they can keep making profit of those “old” games.

Unfortunately, it needs to be technically possible. The 360 has a powerpc architecture, the new xbox is rumored to have an x86 processor. I know too little about emulation, but I did hear powerpc emulation is pretty slow. I guess we will have to wait until the official announcement to know if the engineers at Microsoft can work around this or not.

        • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

Well to be honest Boe2, I disagree with you about the relevancy of digital purchases over physical disks. If anything I feel that digital purchases are much more important than physical disks when it comes to being B/C. Let me explain why. Physical disks don’t require a license to play (atleast not yet) while digital titles do. Physical disks can also be played completely offline. While digital games can be played offline if you are playing them on the same console you downloaded them on, if our consoles break down, we need to go through the hassle of using the license transfer tool to be able to use our XBLA games or any other bit of content offline.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, there are more loopholes and DRM hassles when it comes to digital games and the licenses that come with them (one for your Microsoft/GT account and another tied to the serial number of the original console you downloaded them on) than there are when we are dealing with physical disks.
My argument on why I think B/C is even more important for digital games than physical disks is due to the facts of:
          1. What if our older consoles break, hardware or hdd and they are out of production? If the games arn’t playable on the next gen system we are basically screwed.
          2. When Digital Distribution finally takes over and everything is downloaded and digital only there needs to be some provisions that take place that protect the consumers’s content.
          3. Because of these two reasons alone, all digital purchases should be B/C with furture interations of any particular console brand.
I also wanted to say, I don’t sell my old consoles or games but the days are far gone when consoles last forever. My NES, SNES, SMS, Genesis, TurboGraphix 16, etc all still work but it’s because there are no moving parts inside those older consoles. Nowadays consoles have spinning fans, hdd’s, and disk drives which can all break down faster.
My point is, Consoles don’t last forever anymore, and that means that all the money I’ve invested into my video game collections could be worthless on a whim unless I wanted to buy a new console 2nd hand when they are no longer in production.

    Dear Major Nelson,

Could you please give us some insight on whether or not our digital content will carry over to the next gen xbox? Many of us are concerned about this since both Sony and Nintendo have already done this and we are reluctant to purchase anything else without knowing.
    Please reply,
    Thank You..

    • redboxer

Nintendo Wii purchases carry over to the Wii U through Wii Mode. I have a Wii U. Also, hey check it out, a Nintendo link I found in 2 seconds on Google that shows this.

Thanks so much for the reply bro! You just made me want to buy a WiiU! with that link! This is good news!

      • Nick Peck

I don’t have any wii games other than the games I have been getting off of their site with my “coins” from doing the game surveys. So far I got Mario Kart 64 and Paper Mario for free :D Can’t wait to for the full VC store to hit the Wii U.

The next Xbox and Wii U for me this next gen (and of course my Halo 4 360, not getting rid of that one).

Oh man… I was so looking foreward to see crysis 1 on sale :(

  • chiron69

If Microsoft had removed a zero from each XBLive title, my gues is that they would sell ten times more DLC&games. Then they would have made more money, and ten times more people would be happy. (Yes, I am serious.) ;-) I recently purchased Tiger Woods 13 on DVD, when it was on sale on XBLive, for about a third (!) of the DLC-“sale” price, with a DVD,a cover, and an online code aswell. Very unenvironmentalfriendly (say it ten times in repeat fast) ;-). I also did the same for earlier releases, most are half the price or lower when purchasing DVD’s instead of DLC. This is crazy!
Maybe it’s time for Microsoft to take a look at their pricing policy?
If they follow through with their “Always connected, no used games-thinking”, I will have to wsitch to PS4 (ouch) for the first time in my life. I’ve owned at least one Xbox at a time, since it launched around ten years ago. I’d hate to switch platform now.

    • http://twitter.com/toohats toohats

I agree, and if they watch how the prices drop on used games, and match a similar
price, more people would buy new games. Then the programmers/ game developers
would make more money too, to make more games. Everybody Wins!

      • lagrew

this is why they want to block used games. dont know if it will happen this gen but it will eventually. They want a higher profit margin, after all this is a buisness. Although i still agree about the price of GOD. I have been noticing they are actually changing the price a bit. For example a copy of dead space used at gamestop is 19.99 on GOD its 14.99

  • http://www.facebook.com/chris.broshar Chris Broshar

I see all these comments about backwards compatibility. I agree that backwards compatibility should be a function of the new system. As one post stated games are made to run on specific hardware. I think it’s time we get one game format. It works for tv’s, blu ray,cd’s etc.. It would make our lives so much easier and we would save alot of $$$$$$!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Liquidfx-Xboxdude/100003184837175 Liquidfx Xboxdude

honestly i do not care about backwards compat. i just want some better deals of the week for being a gold member. i have had so many systems in my life that i am used to upgrading. lol its not like my sega cd games will work on my xbox 360. that would be awesome though. then again, maybe not. most of them suck. when this new system comes out i will have played all of the games i wanted to on the old system. i am ready to upgrade. life is short.

    • lagrew

yea i agree i just want a NEW system. got the bug bad after the sony announcement .Back in the day we never complained if the old stuff didn’t work on a new system. In fact it was expected that it wouldn’t. After all you purchased a NEW system. lol..

  • http://www.facebook.com/ejstarr Eric Starr

All these people complaining about backwards compatibility. However did we game before the PS2? I still have my NES and SNES. as for this list, not seeing anything that interests me that I don’t already have. Not to say there won’t be something that pops up.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.simon.1800 Joe Simon

720 backward compatibility is not an issue since, as an Xbox Live always required machine, the 720 is a doorstop other than when M$ loans you the use of their console. All you will ever own is a very expensive doorstop. This works for M$ since they have always only wanted users who rely on Gold features and have no use for single player gamers. Fortunately the PS4 is reported to be a more powerful console than the 720, so it all works out, but I will miss the 360 controller.

    • http://twitter.com/boe2BE Boe2

You talk about “informed gamers”, yet there is NO information about 720. Heck, the used games thing has NO source at all and has been lingering around for 10 years(!) now.

      • Nick Peck

Man, that was a nice smack down there. Joe, foot in mouth much? lol :).
Sony doing a tiered psn for ps4, the next Xbox wont be online only (good thing rumors are facts for you /rollseyes), like the “free” games you get on psn+ that WONT work on the ps4?, again, the specs for both systems are almost identical and we will see what MS adds and or upgrades when they announce.

GOD are overpriced, the games listed no doubt will be cheaper online to buy.

Halo 3 can be picked up for less than £4 these days, no doubt the GOD version will cost £14.99

I just bought orange box for $20 last night >_< can I get some kind of points or something as compensation? This sucks

    • http://twitter.com/boe2BE Boe2

So, how long should Microsoft wait for you to buy a game before they are allowed to discount a 6 year old game?

El Shaddai has been on my “will play if discounted enough” list on a while. Since these are only “some” of the games, I’m hoping for Catherine as well, never dared to buy it at full price.

    • Superman64

You paid $20 for 5 good games in one. You already got a deal.

  • http://www.facebook.com/antonio.galindo.9 Antonio Galindo

Thanks, and lets hope MS can match or drop prices

  • http://twitter.com/boe2BE Boe2

Discounting Tales of Vesperia would be nice. Then people could be tempted to invest in a jrpg that is actually FUN and non-linear instead of that final fantasy “walk from cutscene A to cutscene B” nonsense.

    • Ary

Xbox woldent have any competition from gamestop if they focused their deals on arcade games only . ANd even less if u consider most only have xbox only so they only compete against themselvs on arcade downloads

  • http://www.facebook.com/yurifsantos Yuri Figueiredo Santos

“I will play the console with higher specs”. Yeah, thats all about games, high specs on console. Not fun or gameplay. Its all about graphics. And those one said they are CORE GAMERS. Please, you guys are the most casual one. Core gamers play what they like, and just that. They like good games, not good graphics. Enough said.

  • Nick Peck

    Nice, thanks!

  • Ary

Im suprised no one has thought of this… I know i can keep plaing old games on the soon to be old console, THE PROBLEM IS I WONT BE ABLE TO PLAY PLAY THEM ONLINE (pvp coop) BECAUSE MICROSOFT WILL TRY TO FORCE ME TO MOVE TO THE NEW CONSLE TO PLAY ONLINE (once they stop support for the current xbox360) SOLUTION: let me redownload them again for free on new console or keep support on the old console for many more years (warcraft 3 pc and diablo2 for example are free to play games that still can be played online after hundred of years)

    • Ary
