Deal, Halo By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • TheFamous1

Or you can get Halo 4 for $35 on Amazon with free shipping – and… wait for it…… it’s tangible.

    • http://twitter.com/dibils dibils

well if you care about physical copy you wouldnt buy digital anyway. but just $5 extra for the convenience is pretty good.

if you bought it on amazon right now you would play it in 2 days, if you buy it on GoD now you would be playing it today

      • barry hansen

Not if u’ve got crappy broadband u won’t be

        • http://twitter.com/dibils dibils

if you got a crappy broadband GoD or any digital content isnt for you anyway

          • Russell Gorall

Neither is DLC to an aging console.

      • Russell Gorall

And then you have the game tied to an almost dead console’s hard drive, and it has about as much value to the consumers that bought it as a, cough, Halo 4 game.

        • http://twitter.com/F0REM4N Jay Foreman

Why would you assume we wont get to keep our digital library on the next generation? We will certainly be using the same Live accounts and MS knows this is a huge part of customer retention.

          • Russell Gorall

Microsoft has told you all these will translate to the next console? I didn’t know that.

          • http://twitter.com/moldyclay Brandon Dutko

Because Sony isn’t letting you keep your digital library. Nintendo does, but most assume Microsoft will follow Sony’s example and not Nintendo’s.

        • http://twitter.com/dibils dibils

for 1 – you can not know whether that will be the case, 2 – not sure about others but when the next xbox comes i have no intention to play last gen games

          • Russell Gorall

For one… you too can’t know that won’t be the case. Just like me, which is why I stated it as MS has no info on what is going to be done with all this DLC.

For two… if you have no intention of playing last gen games you kind of made my point. These are titles tied to an almost dead console that should be permanently price slashed.

Any more questions let me know.

          • http://twitter.com/F0REM4N Jay Foreman

You actually didn’t state that MS has no info. You DECLARED that these games will be tied to a (almost dead console’s) dead hard drive.

            1. So why buy any games in any format? (even though the new console is at least almost a year off, I guess a year it too short a time to finish a game for you?)

            2. How are they tied to a dead consoles hard drive, when I can just transfer the rights to the new console?

        • http://www.facebook.com/TheTimWelsh Timothy Welsh

You make it sound like your console is going to stop working once the next Xbox comes out. They only just recently stopped supporting the PS2.

        • BrianRommel

I doubt most Xbox 360 owners will buy the new console within the first year or two of it’s launch, So unless Microsoft disallows people to play the games already on their hardrive I son’t think it’s a problem.

      • dools

“$5 extra for the convenience is pretty good”

No it’s not.Digital copies should never be more expensive than new physical copies.Attitudes like this are how companies get away with ripping people off

        • http://twitter.com/dibils dibils

that would undermine the retailers. retailers that sell their consoles and games, where majority of the sales are made.

          • Russell Gorall

If it undermines the retailers why have retail games available digitally at all?

You are basically saying that Microsoft has to have high prices no matter what, which is an extremely odd thinking for a consumer. Would you prefer they actually have deals that increase the price of products?

          • http://twitter.com/dibils dibils

they are available digitally cause its a new technology and MS cant be left behind, having the game available for same price or higher then retailers is not undermining, its competition.

i dont expect digital to be cheaper until retailers are not selling enough games.

          • http://twitter.com/moldyclay Brandon Dutko

Digital copies even existing undermines the retailer for the very reason you defend the high price. Convenience.

And Steam gets away with essentially giving digital games away, so why’s that fine but not on consoles?

          • http://twitter.com/dibils dibils

cause PC games cant be returned… and every PC user has big HDDs, the structure is there for EVERY PC user to be able to use digital download. if you use PC there is no reason to not buy digital, since you cant return the game anyway

Consoles are a totally different ball game

          • http://twitter.com/csdxMKii Mysteriously Unnamed

so you can return these xbox digital copies then? If not why can’t they be as cheap as PC copies?

          • http://twitter.com/dibils dibils

as i said, undermining the retailers :| right now its competitively priced, if digital was £20 but retailers had it for £30, thats when the problems would start. not only do retailers lose out on sales but they lose out on possible pre-owned sales which are the most profitable section for them

the only advantage of digital on consoles is convenience, and thats how it will stay until retailers are not used by the majority which is YEEEEEARS away

  • http://twitter.com/akaFenikkusu Mario Pendleton マリオ

Welp, I’m already looking ahead to see what will be on sale Wednesday.

    • http://twitter.com/thedarkfenix ian musgrove

right there with you on that one, feel a little disapointed so far.

  • http://twitter.com/ShawnJSpencer Shawn Spencer

Not biting on any of these…

  • http://twitter.com/KingHippoz KingHippoz

Damn i wanted the batmans and bioshock first!

  • JuanCabrera

Halo: Wars seems like a good deal. But I already beat the campaign and who knows how many people are still playing it.

  • DaxterZA

Very good prices! But I already have these titles, will be patient for Dishonored and Bioishock :-)

    • http://twitter.com/dibils dibils

yeah i am waiting to see how much Dishonored is

    • Russell Gorall

You can get BioShock free with BioShock Infinite on PS3. Dishonored’s price will probably be about, wait for it, retail.

  • ElanGabriel

Major, @thefamous1:disqus has a point… We all welcome discounts, but if you’re calling it “The Ultimate Sale”, you should at least check the price of the item on Earth’s biggest store….
Also, you have about 60 titles on that list, wouldn’t it be much better to save these deals as “Deals of the week” ? (In addition to the other DOTW, that is).

Instead of one mega sale, take those 60 titles, and offer them one title per week – throughout the year. Much better, IMO, for gold members reward.

    • m1nh0ca

The case is: this is just marketing and not charity.

Silver members may buy some of those cheap games and get interested in paying for the Gold. Gold people will buy because they are cheaper.

I’m a Gold Member myself and I know we don’t get nice deals… but, at least, more people will be playing online the same games as we do, giving a little more value for what we payed for.

      • ElanGabriel

You’re right – marketing. Gold members gets a big title for up to 19.99$ every week. Most will be 9.99$. That’s marketing.

Why would Silver members upgrade to gold because of this sale ? MP with the new games ? I don’t think so, silver members aren’t that much into MP to begin with… They would get gold or move to PS that has free MP if they did.

People love sales. Offer a good sale every week, and people will be happy. Live Gold today isn’t about MP as before anyway…It’s about enhanced Xbox experience.

      • Russell Gorall

You have a weird sense of marketing.

Also, your ultimate hope as a Gold subscriber is that other people also pay for the service for some reason also so it adds more value?

        • http://twitter.com/herbertsnow herbertsnow

I would never pay for Gold membership

  • http://twitter.com/dragoon_893 Chad

Day by day sales are not the way to go. They’re dumb. Offer up all the games at discount for once, for all of the days, and I guarantee you will get more sales.

    • http://twitter.com/Nitramuse Nitramuse

      I agree…

    • http://twitter.com/jrock3x8 Jason Williams

you obviously don’t work in retail

      • ranhalt

Agreed. This guy has no idea what he’s talking about. He can’t separate his preferences from business strategy. He wants everyone to just accommodate him.

        • Russell Gorall

When you expect little, you get little.

        • Russell Gorall

          Ultimate Bill Gates Statement.

      • http://twitter.com/Audest_Oggust Jordon Sandoval

I agree, I would love to take advantage of Halo: Reach as it’s the only one from that list I don’t own, and I’d also love to take advantage of tomorrow’s sales, but I don’t get paid until Thursday.

      • http://twitter.com/StupidMunkie Charles Annunziato

there actually smart, in retail, you bring them in with the sales, and sell them other stuff they don’t need at full price! That is what retail is all about!

    • dools

Daily sales seem to work pretty well for Steam

    • ranhalt

Your guarantee doesn’t mean much on the internet.

    • http://www.facebook.com/alfredo.cuvi Alfredo Cuvi

      Mr. MBA speaks!

    • http://twitter.com/dragoon_893 Chad

My reasoning for this is: Say someone gets paid Friday, but wants a game on sale Monday. Microsoft loses a sale there.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Vegemite98 Andrew Kite

Great sale Halo Wars went from $59.95 to $69.95. WTG!!!! instant buy!!

  • http://www.consouls.com Slim

I like GoD sales and it’s nice but 10$ in the US is(not) 9£ in the UK (about 13.6$), and you can get a physical copy for 9.85£ in shopto and other retails :

    • m1nh0ca

      Those price conversions really suck…

Microsoft thinks that dollar, euro and pound are the same.

      • http://twitter.com/5tubborn Emrah D.

clearly they ignore it as America matters to them, the rest of the world not.

    • http://twitter.com/thedarkfenix ian musgrove

I would love to buy more games off GoD, but the prices are still so high, even when there on sale they dont compare to hard copies, would be nice to see the games on GoD to come down in price as their hard copy counterparts do.

  • http://twitter.com/allekpastrana Allek Pastrana

Not really a sale Major for your hardcore Halo fans….I already have all these! Also Amazon has Halo 4 $35

  • http://www.facebook.com/xswqaz Daniel Martinez Rgx

    halo 3 its on 39

    halo reach on 10

    the others is right

  • http://www.facebook.com/thomas.balzen Thomas Balzen

Halo Wars isn’t showing the right price.

    • http://www.facebook.com/Vegemite98 Andrew Kite

The price went up by $10 in Australia,

    • http://twitter.com/TechsUK Mark Taylor

      No Halo wars discount?

  • http://twitter.com/whipidhinio george cridland

Or you could have preordered it for £25 like me and lots of English and probably american gamers.

  • relevance

Damn dont you guys check to see if your ‘sale’ prices beat the physical market? Ive always owned ps3 and 360….sony are going from strength to strength with free games for plus members…microsoft are getting further and further behind. You need to step it up if you want to get my money next gen.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Marc-Bellamy/635478311 Marc Bellamy

    Halo Wars hasn’t changed. WTF?

    • Zach Peebles

It’s 3:05 am, god forbid it’s not right yet, it’s not like you don’t have around 24 more hours to purchase it…

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Marc-Bellamy/635478311 Marc Bellamy

MN said it’s for one day, on the 25th, so I thought I was late to the party. Guess I’m early. God’s good. lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/pavels.ahmadulins Павел Ахмадулин

Thank you for “Ultimate sale”, major. I really appreciate this oportunity to save my budget by not buying a single title, because Amazon still has better prices (*

    • http://twitter.com/F0REM4N Jay Foreman

Halo Wars $19 on amazon. Also, if you can find it cheaper buy it.Problem solved.

    • http://twitter.com/_josHaas_ ɾosɥ ɥɐɐs

The only one of today’s deals that’s cheaper on Amazon is Halo 4. Halo 3 you can get for $7.00 used, but in what condition?

      • http://www.facebook.com/pavels.ahmadulins Павел Ахмадулин

Of course only game I’m looking for is Halo 4 (*

      • BrianRommel

Amazon has Halo Wars for les than $10? no they do not.

  • http://twitter.com/TechsUK Mark Taylor

Halo 4 still £5 more expensive than from amazon. If on disk I can lend it or trade it in. Despite that, I like the GoD feature, and I’d buy it this way every time if the price was permanently comparable to current retail.
I suppose retail still promote it in stores, so Microsoft are trying to keep them sweet.
I get the impression they’re starting chivy things up, people who buy/afford GoD are the enthusiasts who are saving up for the next XBOX.

  • Fivezerothree

I was wondering if it is possible to download games from the US games on Demand in Europe and also play them on a European console (PAL)
    P.S: i have and American Gamertag .

    • http://www.facebook.com/sunny.man.7771 Sunny Man

Games-on-Demand title usually prevent cross-region purchase, by checking your IP address.

      • Fivezerothree

        I did a test , i can download Demos (US Marketplace) ,
So does this mean i can buy/download the entire game ?

        • http://www.facebook.com/sunny.man.7771 Sunny Man

What demo is it? XBLA demo (and full game) usually allow cross-region download. It’s just the GoD titles don’t.

Anyway, if you already decided to buy the GoD game, you can actually try buying it. In my past experience, if it doesn’t allow you to buy, it won’t accept you money / MS point. It will reject you before the money transaction is done.

In worst case (it accepted your money but didn’t allow you to download the game), I think the xbox support should be willing to refund.

  • Fivezerothree

I was wondering if it is possible to download/buy games from the US games on
Demand in Europe and also play them on a European console (PAL)
    P.S: i use American Gamertag .

  • Guest

I do not see any rebate. Discount rates are the same as the daily price! Halo Wars is a game so old that it was $ 5 a trade and then no one will buy.

  • http://twitter.com/ISAMU_MkII オミナエ イサム

    No thanks, I will pass.

There will be this week a regular DOTW of dlcs/arcade stuff, right?

  • http://twitter.com/clixpt Ricardo

And Why is Halo 3 ODST not on sale? Oh, it is not available on Games on Demand!!!

  • http://twitter.com/YodaSoup Davide

Can’t we have a planned list of the games and sales for the entire week? That would be much appreciated.

    • ranhalt

But terrible for business. The business is to keep us locked here to watch the sales and buy on impulse since we don’t have the time to decide what we’ll buy in advance.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bush-O-Connor/555604190 Bush O Connor

that doesnt make sense to me with microsoftpoints involved, people have to buy the points in advanced. i dont buy points at all unless i know there is something worth buying. unless the sales are so low to eat up the points that everyone has left over 80msp or less

    • http://twitter.com/MKTheory John Doe

They will never do that, because compulsive buyers are suckers.

  • http://twitter.com/thedarkfenix ian musgrove

Feel a little let down by the first set of discounts, well looks like i will just have to hang on till tomorrow and see what that brings

  • elektrixx

So do I have to go to bed now, go to work, come home by the time the Halo sale is over to find out whether Halo Wars is discounted or are they gonna actually offer the advertised product?

  • http://twitter.com/TYPOGRAPH1C John C. Williams

My only real gripe about day 1 of this sale is… “over 60 Xbox 360 Games-on-Demand titles will be on sale up to 75% off with some as much as 85% off”.

Gee, if thats the case why are all the titles for today 33-67% off? Sure Halo 3’s worth it maybe, Reach can die in a fire, Halo 4 can be found elsewhere for cheaper *cough* Amazon *cough*, and I never played Halo Wars then, so I’m not clamoring to now…but fact remains, this could be better.

    1. Deals could be better. When you say 75-85% loosely, mean it for once. STEAM DOES.
    2. An actual schedule for release would smooth this over a lot, though IMO they should just all be on sale for the whole week.
    3. Heck, even if you teased us with info as to when specific deals would be happening, it would be better than forcing us to check daily.

    • http://www.facebook.com/Dr4gons.fury Dagon Furey

I think you missed the keyword, “UP TO”, meaning anywhere between 1-75%.

  • http://www.facebook.com/sunny.man.7771 Sunny Man

I don’t know if the sale has included Hong Kong. But the current price of Halo Reach on HK marketplace is now US$10, while Halo 3 US$20. That’s weird………..

  • A1ive

    in russian sale more>$10 ..unfairly

  • http://twitter.com/farmerdadof2 hobo dragon

oh yay. halo 4 has gone from the utterly ridiculous “australia tax because F U” 109.95 to the regular u.s price of 59.95. what. a. bargain. thanks microsoft. yup. thanks.
oh, and halo wars went from 59.95 to 69.95. we appreciate it.

  • Janko

Is this a kind of joke? These games cost more than normal, physical versions. Ultimate Game Sale? You should call it Ultishit Game Sale. Thanks MS, you’ve made my day. Really! I had a plan to buy some MS Points, but now … i’ll save some money :D

    • http://twitter.com/F0REM4N Jay Foreman

Halo Wars $19 on amazon. Also, if you can find it cheaper buy it and kindly shut it down with your crying.

      • Janko

Ok. They changed Halo Wars price just few minutes ago (from 33$ to something about 15$) So, now this game in Poland costs 50 polish zl (GoD). I can buy it on our auction portal (something like your Amazon) for 15-30zl. Physical version with box, which i can put on my shelf. Two times cheaper than digital copy. 70% discount and still more expensive than normal box version? So, you are right. What a deal! ;D

        • http://twitter.com/F0REM4N Jay Foreman

If your house burns down, your physical copy is nothing though. Ill be able to redown any digital games.

          • Janko

I’m the oldschool type of gamer and like to have games on my shelf. Especially when price of physical copy is lower than price of digital content. Of course, there are some advantages and disadvantages. At least, don’t have to download 7GB when I want to play only 30 minutes session. And I don’t care about servers crash ;)

          • http://twitter.com/MKTheory John Doe

If your account gets hacked or you lose your information about it when trying to recover your GT, you can’t redownload a thing. I can play that game too. They both has its flaws.

      • http://twitter.com/moldyclay Brandon Dutko

        You’re completely ignoring other countries.

Also, Halo 4 is the same price at Gamestop as this sale (new). Halo 3 is the same price (used) as well.

  • http://www.facebook.com/805.Michael Michael Fortner

Day to Day sales are the way to go, keeps things intresting, and people logging in every day!

  • http://twitter.com/jrock3x8 Jason Williams

I like the price points – I want to say that’s the lowest I’ve seen for first party titles on games on demand but I only follow it casually. Good job, MS – let’s see more of this!

    • Russell Gorall

Thanks for the reply, Microsoft employee.

  • fsdfg dsfds

HAHAHAHA look at all these facebook twitter using dicks, i lol at your stupid faces

  • Russell Gorall

Pretty pathetic way of starting this thing. Kind of a slap in the face as a gamer and a consumer, but what do I know – I only bought three of these consoles and have thrown thousands at Microsoft in the process of supporting unreliable hardware.

DLC tied to an almost obsolete console infused with DRM, and you still only match retail with Halo 4? If you gave the game away it still wouldn’t be played.

    • http://twitter.com/AGRawrisBored AGRawr is Bored

Please complain just a little more. DLC has nothing to do with how old the console it is on. it has to do with the game it is for. The console could be 30 years old, but if a game came out a month ago, they will still have DLC for it.

GoD prices are not meant to compete with stores. it’s meant to be an easy way to get games. I can go buy one of these games for $10.00, in an hour i can play it. I could possibly get one for around the same prices at amazon, probably more money with shipping. so abotu $15.00 to $20.00, wait 2 days, and play it. So what if Halo 4 is $5 more? You can still play it sooner than if you ordered it, and it’s a great deal for people who don’t like to use their credit card online. They can go to a store, pick up MSP and buy the games on their consoles.

Most of these prices are competitive when you go find a new version of each game listed besides Halo 4. Anything lower than $25.00 on amazon you have to pay shipping for so if you bought one of these games (Minus Halo 4) you’d be paying alot more to wait alot longer.

      • dools

“So what if Halo 4 is $5 more?”

It’s a digital copy.It should not be more expensive than a new physical copy that’s what especially when it’s meant to be on sale

        • http://twitter.com/ENich1 E.Nich

I’m with you on that, digital copies should ALWAYS be cheaper than physical ones. Besides, they have DRM, some DLC’s can’t be played unless you are connected to internet (but you did pay for them, of course, it should be playable with your profile with connection or not).

    • disqus_1cXskUv669

They only match the Halo 4 in the U.S stores, not other countries like Canada. It’s still $60 here

  • Max

Halo wars still have the normal price :(

  • ryder4life22187

Just as i figured. I got a physical copy of halo 4 for 30 bucks and got reach a long time ago on GoD and still paid less than that by a few dollars.

  • Pajonk

LOL. I have purchased used BOXED copy of Halo 4 in great condition for 25 USD LOL

  • Mariusz Gromada

Why the discounts aren’t everywhere the same? In Poland discount prices are as follows:

    Halo 3: $23.30 (2.3 times higher)
    Halo 4: $43,30
    Halo: Reach: $16.60
Halo Wars: $33.30 (3.3 times higher)

I really does not look like an ultimate sale here…

    • Janko

Because we’re living on Donald Green Island ;) Anyway, the price conversions are horrbile.

    • http://www.facebook.com/pavels.ahmadulins Павел Ахмадулин

I guess it’s because they think Poland is rich (almost wrote “reach” instead ((* ) country and every family has enough money to spend on games (((* The same situation with Latvian game shops.

  • Adrian Menefee

This is stupid, Major Nelson…be sure to let Microsoft know that…I’ve been waiting up all night to purchase specific games and this what they do….SMH!

  • http://twitter.com/boe2BE Boe2

The only complaint/advice I have is that these price cuts should be permanent.
This is not like a steam sale where you temporarily hit an absolute bottom price, this sale just brings it to the same level as store prices. Which is absolutely welcome, but pointless to make it only temporary.

  • Pajonk

What happened to 75% to 85% off?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=564505289 Chris Hofer

Check out xbldb [dot] com and click on ‘price decreases’. You’ll see some other non-Halo games listed there that are in the 75%-85% off range. :-)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=564505289 Chris Hofer

…and the Deals of the Week are sales on the Season Pass for Gears of War 3 or the individual DLCs for the game. Also, avatar gear. {sigh} More of my MS points not being spent this week since I already own the Season Pass.

why is halo wars still 29.99? is it going live later?

  • http://twitter.com/Isopanisad Garcian Smith

    I’m Italian.
The 25th of Jenaury 2013 I have bought “Halo3″ on GoD for €19.99.
Now Microsoft say the standard price is €29.99.
This is a lie, invented to make the discount looks bigger.

Don’t you think that if it’s going to be a one-day offer, there should be more discount??
You promised 75 to 85% off!!

    • dools

They promised “up to” 75 – 85%.Those two little words are the important part as it means they can offer a discount anywhere between 1% – 85% and not be lying

There are more discounts listed on xbldb [dot] com under ‘price decreases’. :-)

Trying to buy Halo Wars, but still showing at 29.99…

Did you read Major’s blog? He said, “Note: If you don’t see the discounted price, try again later as the price drops are rolling out.”

Halo Wars should now show the sales price of $9.99. Remember the above prices are for today only.

Same as comment above. Halo Wars shows 9.99$, buy when I click “buy now”, it asks me for 14.99$ (others have similar behavior – Tomb Raider, etc. but Halo Wars is the only one I’m looking to buy).

My comment is “Awaiting Moderation” because I linked to the sales and specials page on xbox dot com. There are 16 games on sale for $4.99 or less there.
I won’t buy them from the website though because I already paid tax when I bought my M$ Points and it wants me to pay tax again on the purchase with them.

It’s even charging 440 points on the console! What the hell. 440 points is $5.50, not $4.99! Sort it you greedy B*******!

If you include a link in your post it automatically gets moderated – it should be live now as I had to approve a bunch in the queue.
