Arcade, Deal, Game Add-on, Marketplace, Xbox 360 Games On Demand By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Joe Wienclaw

    Microsoft Studio Sale? Intriguing

    • Z4M0

Same here, specially if it involves XBLA titles rather than DLC, GoD, etc. Would also like to know about those one day only 75% saving on Spring Sale announced on the xbox site. Supposedly it’ll be 5 XBLA, 5 GoD, DLC and movies…

Beyond that, it makes sense to have Retro City Rampage reduced as it was recently on PC.

Would recommend Swarm and Winterbottom at those prices.

    • Chris Hofer

      Halo 4 DLC?

    • Guest

I hope Deadlight is part of that sale

  • Neftali Rodriguez

Good sales are coming. The Spring sale is awesome. Also Rock Band’s last DLC is coming on April 2.

  • ungeheier

My biggest problem with these sales:

I played the Defiance Beta this weekend. Wow. I didn’t have this game on my radar at all. After playing it though, I went out and pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition. Shame it’s going to be released next week though. Spring break is this week for me.

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

last week for me. i miss it already. oh well bioshock it here to save the day or night when i get to play it.

  • Boe2

For those who don’t know: Battle Block Theater is the new title from The Behemoth (Castle Crashers) and it’s pretty awesome. Singleplayer is challenging and it has amazingly fun multiplayer of the kind you usually only find on nintendo platforms (think super smash bros).

Bought Terraria on steam about 2 years ago, though it has seen a LOT of polishing and improvements since then. Basically: it’s 2D minecraft with extra RPG elements, and you actually have a reason to gather materials to craft better weapons/gear so you can take on harder enemies/get better stuff. The combat is actually fun and challenging instead of something you’d rather avoid.

  • m1nh0ca

A Deal of the Week only with Games on Demand and their DLCs without any XBL Arcade should be forbidden.

  • Riddick Snipes

Does anyone know if double dragon 2 is the sequel to double dragon neon?

    • JoeGrahamcracker

It’s a remake of the old one.

      • Riddick Snipes

      • ikari_paul

        at 1200pt? ouch…

  • imythicz360

Battle Block Theater is the next game from the creators of castle crashers. This game is really fun as I can tell u that because they had a beta and I was one of the people who got invited.

  • Reinier Martinez

Dear Larry, you’re the the reason I’m going broke with all these neat sales. Can you please arrange a RPG sale, it’ll be pretty awesome. :D

  • Manuel I. Bueno

I’m really curious as to what this “Microsoft Studio Sale” will include.

  • Hugoku

Those DotW are a nice change of pace. Hopefully the Transformers games are at the right price as I read they’re pretty good for what they are.

  • Chris White

Unfortunately Xbox/Microsoft is so behind with this thing, it’s really embarrassing Assassin’s Creed 3 just came out today, so if you are lucky Bioshock will be out in 6 months.

Personally, I only buy digital titles, so if I had to wait for Microsoft I would always be 6 months behind. I am currently waiting for LEGO Lord of the Rings, Tomb Raider, and now BioShock. Come next generation I will probably jump ship to PS4, if for no other reason than to get my games Day and Date digital. Heck, evening Nintendo offers that for Wii U. Microsoft should be ashamed.

    • Chris White

Why would someone vote my post down?!? PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and Steam all have Day and Date digital releases. It is an embarrassment for a company, who believes they are the best at what they do, to not even be close. We are not talking about 2 weeks later, we are talking 6 months or more. Whether you buy games digitally or not, any person that thinks logically would see that this is an obvious oversight from the Microsoft team. You can’t argue with that.

      • Lee Rayson (DarkGin87)

Maybe they just don’t think its worth it. If the next CoD was digital release too think of the amount people trying download that think of the problems it could cause

With PSN everything takes so long to download anyhow Sony don’t care as they charge publishers a download fee per download
It just as quick going to your local store to buy it and with next gen games going to be even bigger expect downloads to be even longer whatever the console

        • Chris White

Your argument has no grounds. I never said go all digital. I only stated, that a Day and Date digital release should be an option. Think about it….that is the case with every other main platform or format. If a new album comes out, you can go buy it at Target or download it from iTunes ON THE SAME DAY. New movie is out, buy it at Best Buy or download it from Amazon ON THE SAME DAY. And if a new video games comes out you can go buy it at GameStop or you can download it on PSN or Nintendo eShop ON THE SAME DAY. XBLA, however…….you have to wait an average of about 6+ months.

It’s not a case of either/or. Retail, disc releases will still be a part of the eco system at least through the next generation, but for Microsoft to be the ONLY major company not participating in Day/Date releases is an embarrassment. The only way you can make your point known is to speak with your money. Unfortunately I currently own a 360 so I can’t make a stand this generation, but this will be a major deciding factor in what platform I decide to support in the coming generation.

          • Lee Rayson (DarkGin87)

For a this gen xbox weren’t apart of blu Ray and didn’t focus much of 3D games

An they still managed to sell consoles, same applys to GoD just because other company’s do it doesn’t mean Microsoft have to do it or even think we need it

GoD will always lack because of consumers think global there are parts of the UK still using dial up boardband and in some parts of the world has no internet

With that in mind why would you put a lot of effort into digital day releases

  • louis britton

I bought Terraria last night on Steam for $2.50…jus say’n

    • ikari_paul

lol… and i got it for free in steam during a holiday sale, during one of those contests (uploaded a video to steam and received a winning ticket).

  • claudio_hs

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is still priced at $ 29.99 and not $ 14.99 (Spring Sale). :-(

    • claudio_hs

Now the price is right. :-)

      • E.Nich

Around here it went from 19.99€ to 14.99€, I don’t see a 50% in that.

        • claudio_hs

I think that discounts vary by region.

In live US price is $14.99 now.

          • E.Nich

Yeah, I know. But usually it takes into account the price, and just go half off. Bad luck this time :( I’ll buy it anyways, since I want to play the game.

          • claudio_hs

You can also create an silver account on live U.S. to buy the game for $ 14.99.

Anyway, it’s a great game. Actually it’s the only game on the list that interested me and that I don’t have yet.

  • gary

None of that FoC stuff seems worthwhile although it reminds me to actually play the game. Transformers WFC got it last time it was on sale.

  • Paul Cedfeldt

Quarrel is fun, and an absolute steal at 200 pts!

    • GoingPostal13

Plug in a USB keyboard if you can touch type.

    • ikari_paul

lol… was free for the ipad a couple of weeks ago

  • Bennijin

Sales look alright, shame about XBLA though. #saynoto1200

    • ikari_paul

live gold subscribers should get a discount… shame about that new pricepoint for xbla games. personally, i have stopped buying xbla games.

      • Bennijin

I still buy them, but I can’t remember the last time I paid full price for one. Tempted by Phantom Breaker, though.

      • Sam Taylor

Have you gone back and looked at the 800 msp games that used to come out? The 1200 games are way ahead in terms of quality.

        • ikari_paul

trials1, braid, peggle, rez, etc… and the list goes on. all 800

fez is also at 800, and its a new one, and above a lot of new games, released at 1200pts.

so no, 1200pts games do no justify the new pricepoint. i for one, have stopped buying them full price, or moved over to steam (like mark of the ninja, bastion, which i got at a fraction of the price asked on xbla)

          • Sam Taylor

Trials and Braid were both 1200 msp. Peggle should be at that price point, and Rez is a good deal. Jet Set Radio and Nights both belong in the past.

Please carry on this list of yours, because there are not many examples that spring to my mind.

This is not a new price point, it has started since games have got more expensive and bigger, since the 50mb size cap was lifted. These games are worth the extra $4. That is the cost of a coffee.

          • ikari_paul

peggle was never at 1200pt, and is sold everywhere for cheap. I can carry on with the list… so can you. You said that the 1200pt titles have more gameplay, than the 800pt ones ever had. There are a lot of 800pt games that say a different thing. Fez one of them

In my case, ill never pay 1200 for a xbla game, thats all i said. i dont care if the content rivals a 60$ game… youre free to do whatever you want with your money. just saying that. if your happy with a 1200pt price point, go for it. that all my original post said

ps: on a sidenote, just got peggle 1-2 for free from popcap’s site. its true, its really a 1200pt game, as you said :s

          • Sam Taylor

I meant that Peggle should be at 800msp, not 1200, as in it is only worth the 800.

You just gave me a list of games at 800 msp, I was talking about worth, which is what I thought you were talking about… You’ll happily pay 800msp for Mr Driller, Pacman, Galaga, SS, Worms, Tower Bloxx, Quake Arena (broken and dead) etc, but not 1200 for Trials Evo (for example)?

As you said, you don’t care about the value, just the price. This is a crazy stand point, and shows that your heart is leading over your brain.

          • ikari_paul

The list I gave are all games i think are worth 800pts, and if you ask
me, Geometry Wars 2 is a better game, with more gampelay, than Trials Evolution. Dont agree? Dont expect you to, dont think my tastes are the same as yours. For every good 1200pt game you give as an example, i can give you another 800pt one. But thats not the point of my original post.

What i dont like about this 1200pt matter is that nowadays almost all new games come out at that pricepoint, no matter what the content. Just look at the new xbla games released this week. Double Dragon 2 remake (remake!) at 1200? Terraria (which goes regularly for 3-6$ everywhere) at 1200? If Trials2 is one of the few exceptions that has the content to match the
pricepoint, the vast majority of the new 1200pt releases dont, imo. It
was even reported that Microsoft was pressuring the developer of Fez to
release the game at 1200. That artificial price hike is what i dont
support. If youre ok with it, good for you. Lets see what happens when
M$ starts pushing for a 1600pt price point, im interested to know what
you will say then Thank god theres steam, and im now buying my
smaller/indie games there now and in the future.

      • Eric Starr

New pricepoint notwithstanding, some games still hook me into forking over the points – like this summer’s Ducktales remaster.

        • ikari_paul

oh, that one looks great, and it up there on my list too. but, there you go, its the only xbla game im awaiting, and i sure hope its not 1200pts

  • ikari_paul

my vote goes for a REZ HD sale ;-) will we ever see one again? sega is always doing discounts on all their other stuff, never on Rez :-S shame

    • lahcoe

    • Tylerh1701

Check your local Gamestop for the Qubed disc. It has Rez HD, Lumines, and E4. It is $4.99 new and $3.99 used if you can find one.

  • Agusia

Ok, I promise I won’t come back to this subject from now on… this is the last time.

But you should just confirm and let us know that the Sales & Specials app is definitely dead.
“Deal of the Week” there is still GTA IV (for 3 weeks, already counting this one). Scratch & Match is still Bionic Commando (for a month). Chain Reaction is still Ninja Gaiden III (for a month either).
It was an excellent alternative while the “DotW” was not nice, besides, we had a chance to win prizes (of course, I’ve never won, but I guess some people got something)… and, last but not least: those promotions were valid for everybody.

I will miss it. And I know I’m not alone.

    • Chris Hofer

I was told by ^JI via @XboxSupport on Twitter that this app won’t be updated any more. It was a pilot. Sad to see that the deals won’t be updated any more. :-(

      • m1nh0ca

        Damn… this is bad into extreme… :-(

At least, seems we finally have a permanent price drop for GTA IV content (at least those who have the app installed).

So, PLEASE, they can’t put them on the DotW again!

    • Maritox

the chain reaction its an awesome idea to make us buy more, but if the stuff to get does not change it just sucks!

  • Billy Cupid

I wonder what’s going to be in the 75% off sale on 1st April… I hope it’s not going to be the games that have been on sale all week, only with more off. That would be a kick in the teeth.

    • Brad Lavender

      Why would they do that?

  • JoeGrahamcracker

Traded in some old games for msp to get Terraria tomorrow. I’m glad there’s split screen. Quarrel and Swarm are pretty good games for 200msp.

  • Lee Rayson (DarkGin87)

Wasn’t there meant to be some Sniper ghost warrior 2 dlc this week?

    • Brad Lavender

Not every single DLC is listed in these biweekly updates. It’s always best to check personally.

      • Lee Rayson (DarkGin87)

I know that but it not like it was songs for rockband it was story DLC. but ir was put on the next day anyhow

  • Gibson

I really hope that WWE Sale includes the DLC Characters for WWE All Stars!

I completely agree, Sales and specials should have never been an app along with:

    1. Kinect Seseme Street… It’s a game not an app!
    2. Kinect Nat Geo… It’s a game not an app!
    3. Karaoke… It’s a game, not an app and it doesn’t belong in the “music” section of the apps marketplace!
    4. Kinect Play Fit.. It’s a game, not an app! It doesn’t belong under the “social” section of the apps marketplace!
    5. Voice Studio… It was a game, not an app! It doesn’t belong under the “social” section of the apps marketplace!

IMO MS has always done the way they file things wrong! They even change the titles of games and music videos in the marketplace as well! For instance, Dead Rising Case 0 used to be right next to the other Dead Rising games, but now it’s listed as DR:CASE 0 and it isn’t found next to the others that begin with DE!

I’ve given so many suggestions on how to better improve the dashboard during the last 3 dashboard betas, only to have my suggestions fall on deaf ears along with so many others. It’s become quite apparent that whoever designed these marketplace stores is either dyslexic or needs a lesson in uniformity.

Apps that are really games and items thrown in sections where they clearly don’t belong? As much as I hate the PS3, I give a nod to sony for atleast catagorizing things better.

  • BlinkFandango

Has the sales and specials app been abandoned then? They’ve had Bionic Commando there for weeks and the deal of the week still shows GTA stuff.

  • RyuOnline

Microsoft Studios Sale 2-Apr To 8-Apr Up To 50% Off

Please add some Gears of War DLC to the sale, I missed General Raams add on in last sale & I am gutted

  • Neftali Rodriguez

I still have 200 MS points after the spring sale. Let’s see what can I get in the Studio sale.

ButhurtT much because I have nearly quadruple the common sense that you do? Guess what Window licker? THATS YOUR PROBLEM! :)

LOL, It looks like I have a fan here! :)

judging by the smart alek comments you make and your dyslexic sense of

organization. It’s almost as if you have no common sense! :)I give myself

plently of credit kiddo, that’s why I’m the all that is holy “PSN Is Garbage.

P.S. I find your assumptions quite amusing. Oh and the old tried and

true “I don’t want to talk to you” holds no water with me. You wouldn’t last a

twisted second in any debate with me. If you’re up for that, you’re more than

welcome to invite me to your xbox live party so we can discuss it? I’d

    welcome it anyday! :

Hey Spire.. just letting you know those were my comments. The Guest literally copied and pasted a post I deleted towards you. I’m very suprised you didn’t catch onto that quickly.

If you have no problem about taking apps and moving them to seperate catagories why are you even bothering to argue with me then? Untill I see a video app that has achievements, anything with achievements should be under the games marketplace. Now if in the rare case a video application like Netflix had achievements I would make an exception because it wouldn’t make sense whatsoever to put that under games. In this scenario I would actually agree with you.

Still man, you came in here being smug and nonchalant and attacked me for no reason so as far as I’m concerned you should have expected to hear back from me the way you did.

  • Mike_Smitty

Any hope for Captain America: Super Solider on demand?
