On Tuesday May 21st, we’ll mark the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment. On that day, we’ll be holding a special press event on the Xbox campus and we invite you to join us via the live global stream that will be available on Xbox LIVE and Xbox.com. If you are in the US or Canada, you can also watch the broadcast on Spike TV.

On that day, we’ll share our vision for Xbox, and give you a real taste of the future. Then, 19-days later at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, we’ll continue the conversation and showcase our full lineup of blockbuster games.

We are thrilled to pull back the curtain and reveal what we’ve been working on.

  • IntenSePinda

    Dear Next Generation Xbox,

    Please be backwards compatible.

Only then my body is ready.

    • Mik3t

Im being serious you own a 360 im guessing is that REALLY a priority?

      • http://twitter.com/Digital_HD Damien (Digital HD)

Having backwards compability is needed. There are a lot of 360 games I would like to play and wouldn’t want to have to hook up my 360 just to play them.

      • maximumcandiosity

a lot of people-myself included believe that Microsoft should embrace it’s past, not destroy it.

      • http://www.facebook.com/josericardo.passos Jose Ricardo Passos

Would be an advantage over the PS4.

Many of the people who are interested in the ps4 and went the xbox route this gen want to play the exclusives they missed, the lack of BC on the ps4 is a huge minus, and having BC on the 720 would help keep some of the people loyal.

Not to mention it would be worth it to play the exclusives people who missed the 360 didn’t play (even though the proportion isn’t as big as the ps3’s)

      • Alex_Atkin_UK

Who has the space to have TWO Kinects hooked up above the TV, or wants to mess around swapping between Kinect 1 & 2 all the time?

Who has the SPACE to have an Xbox 360 and Xbox Next hooked up at the same time? So that means swapping them around and that means increasing the chance of breaking the ports and cables. HDMI in particular can be fragile, the ports broke on my old TV from swapping all the time.

So there are many reasons to want a single console.

        • Jaedre

if you cant fit 2 kinects on top of the tv you need a bigger tv LOL

          • Alex_Atkin_UK

Kinect is supposed to be central on the TV, if its either side then the area its looking at will also be skewed to either side of the TV making gameplay awkward.

Plus I also have the Singstar wireless microphone transmitter on one side and Playstation Eye on the other, so space is at a premium.

    • http://twitter.com/HotDanceTrax Alex

That probably won’t happen, are you tossing you Xbox out the window??

      • http://twitter.com/CyberKnight1 Yakko Warner

It’s not uncommon for people to trade their old systems in to help finance their purchase of a new system.

      • http://twitter.com/chuckiej Chuck Jacobson

There are “first world problem” issues like how much space do you have in your entertainment center, how many inputs, etc. Some people can only have a few devices, some people have way too many already…

    • Cercuitspark

There are rumours that it will have the Xbox 360 SoC in it. If not, there are other rumours that there will be an Xbox Mini that has the Xbox 360 hardware in it. If you connect the Mini to the new Xbox it is supposed to make it backwards compatible.

      • http://www.facebook.com/josericardo.passos Jose Ricardo Passos

But that way I could just keep the 360…

        • Cercuitspark

But your 360 can’t play the new games. Your choice, it not backwards compatability you’re talking about, you talking about saying behind in 2005.

          • http://www.facebook.com/josericardo.passos Jose Ricardo Passos

            No, I mean.
Why would I want to buy a Xbox mini and connect it to the new xbox instead of just keeping my god and old slim version?

          • Alex_Atkin_UK

Because if it DOES work like that, it doesn’t take up an HDMI port.

Except I believe the Xbox Mini is just going to be a full Xbox 360 needing its own HDMI port, not an expansion. So I REALLY hope they include Xbox 360 as a SoC in the new Xbox.

          • http://www.facebook.com/josericardo.passos Jose Ricardo Passos

Well, I hope they find a way to emulate the 360. No extra costs on hardware for buyers.

          • Alex_Atkin_UK

Unlikely, it took them ages to emulate the Xbox and not all the games were supported, some of the ones who were supported didn’t run perfectly either.

Emulating Xbox 360 would be much harder, particularly as the CPU on Xbox Next is unlikely to be as big a jump over Xbox 360 as Xbox 360 was over Xbox.

      • http://www.facebook.com/jshank.3037 Josh Shank

Of course, leave it to MS to drain our wallets for something extra, pure BS

      • ODST_365

        This is fake. Roamers

    • http://twitter.com/chuckiej Chuck Jacobson

Agreed. My body wants to be ready. But this is a prereq.

    • GMAN73

It will only be backward compatible with Kinect games

      • slumdog hundredaire

You really like the Kinect don’t cha?! :P

    • trylks

What’s the problem with timed exclusive deals? Actually what’s the problem with the lack of exclusives? You get to play some games, let other people enjoy the same games. Exclusives are an abuse against the free market, free, as the freedom that the USA supposedly defends and promotes. It would be way better for consumers if console makers focused on making good consoles (hardware and features wise) and developers could focus on making good games that would work on all systems. That would promote competition on all levels and all consumers would get the most for their money. Exclusives are a way to make the market less free, more closed and a way in which consumers lose.

So no, please Microsoft, Sony and everyone out there, don’t try to milk customers, we don’t like it, don’t be evil, we won’t forget that.

      • http://www.facebook.com/josericardo.passos Jose Ricardo Passos

        Its quite the opposite way.

The console market, you see, doesn’t works the same way as the other hardware markets.
If all the consoles are able to run all the same games, nintendo would have been dead for a long time now.
Exclusives are a necessity on this market.

I know it sucks to us as consumers to have to buy more than one console, but if it was not this way, there would be no competition.
Not to mention, making a game for just one hardware makes the game so much better.
Halo 4 or Uncharted 3 wouldn’t be as good if they were multiplats.

Anyway, imagine this gen no consoles had any exclusives at all. What would have happened? Microsoft would have ruled without any competition at all.
Superior controller, one extra year on the market so people would follow their friends to play online with them, superior online capabilities (cross game chat and the such).
The ps3 and the wii would just have no reason to get sales (remember the wii had such a sucess due to motion controls right? well, it’s sucess was all based on wii sports, but that wouldn’t happen because there wouldn’t be any exclusives).

They ain’t being evil by making exclusives, they are trying to survive.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Curtis-Isabell/1036013363 Curtis Isabell

you have no clue how gaming markets work do you. exclusives are the biggest draw to one console or another, the original xbox sold because of halo, the 360 sold because people were waiting for the next halo.. the next box will sell because of fanboys

Backwards compatible, plays used games and doesn’t need to be always online. Those 3 things please :)

Could be but I will never know, looks like Spike stream is US / Canada only.

      What a joke.

Watch it on the live event player on the xbox

        • http://twitter.com/FlagshipFighter Irfaan

yeah I’m sure they’ll event stream it on the console itself a.k.a. like they did with Curiosity

          • EvanTheGamer

What the good Major said above…about watching it on Xbox LIVE. So obviously they’ll be LIVE streaming it. :)

            CANNOT wait!

        • http://twitter.com/dontasciime mememememe

like that’s going to be working

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001045040056 Chris Brown

Why backwards compatibility? There’s literally no games worth playing on 360.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002502316697 Hammodi N Hammodi

there are no games worth playing since 2006

        • EvanTheGamer

Okay, Mr. “Hammodi I’m a troll and I love to hump other trolls”.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Curtis-Isabell/1036013363 Curtis Isabell

this is a stretch, 2011 saw skyrim but since then not much worth getting.

      • PeterPanPiss

Trolls aren’t even trying these days.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Curtis-Isabell/1036013363 Curtis Isabell

I have over 100 360 games and none will be worth playing when the next gen starts. the only exciting 360 game on the horizon is state of decay ,which is an arcade game that will most likely be boring in like 20 hours of play.

          • PeterPanPiss

What was the point of this comment?

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Curtis-Isabell/1036013363 Curtis Isabell

that the guy isn’t trolling no games are worth playing on 360 right now there is nothing on the horizon either that makes BC needed, just have a few decent launch titles.

          • PeterPanPiss

So you do not want to play 360 games on the 720 therefore no one in the world will need backwards compatibility. Gotcha.

      • http://www.facebook.com/bosoxdanc Dan Cornellier

Then why are you posting on an article about a Microsoft console, on a Microsoft employee’s website?

Also, I laughed pretty good at your use of literally.

There’s LITERALLY 0 games worth playing?

        • EvanTheGamer

He’s obviously a Sony fantroll, so obviously he has nothing else to say.

        • water

I’ve seen him before on other websites. I’m pretty sure he’s a 24/7 troll.

          • http://www.facebook.com/ana.helusic Ana Helušić

        • http://twitter.com/MatthewKenealy Matthew Kenealy

He obviously has no games left to play on his Playstation so all he can spend his time on is trolling Xbox fans.

      • Thomas Fitzgerald

What if I told you there was another XBox console before the 360?

        • EvanTheGamer

          He would say, “Stop lying!”

        • Marcus2012

What if I told you Xbox isn’t spelled XBox?

          • http://xstex.co.uk/ Stephen Robinson

What if I told you a capital letter isn’t spelling?

          • Marcus2012

What if I told you, that was a trap to see which of you dumbasses would fall for it?

      • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

Halo 4 is worth playing-I’d say that’s about it for me really.

        • http://www.facebook.com/adamdjt Adam Daniel John Thompson

For me, Forzas are the only exclusives I need, but I also enjoyed Halo 3 (my favourite Halo story, the Arbiter was great, pity they ignored him after).

          • http://twitter.com/Hippy_Lemonz Kkye

Halo 4 was focused on Master Chief, Arbiter may very well make a comeback in Halo 5.

      • http://www.facebook.com/josericardo.passos Jose Ricardo Passos

You may even say “No exclusives worth playing”.

But no games? Like, no RDR, no Bioshock, no Metal Gear HD collection?
No actualy a lot of the best games ever?

        • ODST_365

I did not know PS4 Fans were invited.

          • http://www.facebook.com/josericardo.passos Jose Ricardo Passos

            Hmmm excuse me?

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Curtis-Isabell/1036013363 Curtis Isabell

tbh this generation is kinda tired. state of decay is probably the only 360 game i’m looking forward too, ps3 at least has last of us and tales of xillia on the horizon but even they aren’t much. I can’t see much being bought till next gen starts at least for me.

          • http://www.facebook.com/josericardo.passos Jose Ricardo Passos

Well, bioshock infinite was the last big game of the 360.
I mean, big game that interests me(CoD can gth), after this its all next gen.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Curtis-Isabell/1036013363 Curtis Isabell

even then that’s a stretch this gen has been stale for a while now especially on 360, shooter after shooter after shooter. if it isn’t gears it’s halo, if it isn’t halo it’s gears.

I love how negative comment about ms = troll now, the xbox fanboys are coming in droves. I can almost gurentee MS can show nothing and the fanboys will still rave about it. it’s going to be funny if MS only shows kinect games and fanboys try and defend them. it really shows how ridiculous many of you guys are.

      • EvanTheGamer

lol Once a dirty rotten troll, always a dirty rotten troll.

Now do us a favor and go play in traffic, that’ll teach us!

      • http://www.facebook.com/chomskyknows Marcus Roof

he’s really fat folks (and possibly mentally challenged — i’m not saying that as an insult — i’m just trying to explain his post.) in his comment history he says “he loves greys anatomy, and jersey shore.” Other nuggets of wisdom from this Rhodes scholar include ruminations such as “the only tattoo I would ever get would be a Denver broncos logo or Chicago cubs logo.” And there you go…

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=696111330 Jens-Thomas Steinhaug

    • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

Agreed. They better have great launch games.

      • http://twitter.com/jason3535 jason dunham

Destiny isn’t slated yet as far as I know for next gen ?

        • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

Actually, Activision CEO Eric Hirschberg announced their partnership with Bungie at the PlayStation Meeting 2013 and then showed Bungie’s CEO and co-creator of Halo Jason Jones and 4 members of Bungie on stage and announced that Destiny is official and is not only coming to current gen consoles but also next gen with PS4 the only next gen console confirmed so far with the actual game coming 2014.

      • http://twitter.com/HyperactiveHero Josh

Fifa, Call of Duty and Battlefield sound good?

    • Alex_Atkin_UK

I really REALLY hope its backwards compatible too, its an instanbuy to me if it does. If not then I am definitely tempted to go with PS4 if its more powerful as rumoured.

I don’t think the new Xbox will be ALWAYS online though but will require to be online to redeem the game. I think it will work identical to Xbox 360 in that the console you first download/install the game on can work offline, all others only work when signed in to your profile.

This is also why it will block second hand sales, as effectively you are buying a digital copy of the game and the disk is only to avoid you having to download the game and appease the retailers.

      • http://twitter.com/MatthewKenealy Matthew Kenealy

The PS3 was more powerful than the Xbox yet the xbox still “performed” better due to the way they built it. I would say that if MS is waiting so long it has to be better otherwise they would have come out first and just announced a tonne of exclusives to draw people away from the PS4. Maybe you’ll even be able to run two games at once on the new Xbox if some of the rumors are correct.

        • http://www.facebook.com/adamdjt Adam Daniel John Thompson

It was easier for devs to port to. They need to make sure they retain that, or they could lose the third party king status.

        • John

Historically the most powerful console has never won the console generation. It always comes down to software features (including games) and price.

MS is waiting so long because they want to (in Apple style) launch a product not long after its announcement, to keep the buzz going. They did it with the 360 slim and it had very good sales from launch.
Tapeout was rumored in January and there were also a lot of rumors hanging around that the next Xbox would be available to the general public at E3. A 6 month production cycle would be enough to mass produce millions of consoles before June, but they are just rumors for now.

Running in the background for multiple apps/games is already possible on all the new Windows platforms, so yes that would be a very good assumption.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Curtis-Isabell/1036013363 Curtis Isabell

ps3 didn’t perform as well because of cell and weird ram layout, the ps4 doesn’t have this issue, and it’s why so many indie devs are flocking to the system.

          • http://twitter.com/MatthewKenealy Matthew Kenealy

I think that people mistake lots of Indie devs to a few, who are overly publicized by IGN and gaming sites to create controversy. Also the developers have probably been under NDAs for Xbox so once it is revealed we will see a lot of devs announce their new games on the platform, both indie and triple A.

          • Alex_Atkin_UK

Totally, but I think the PS4 has some compelling features, especially as the PS3 did several things half-right but had huge drawbacks preventing it delivering a good experience. For starters if they actually follow through this time with almost all games working via Remote Play on the PS Vita, that is a big plus.

Smartglass I can’t see how it could compete with that due to lacking real controls. I can’t even use the Forza Horizons GPS on my Android phone, a huge disappointment so far (although admittedly better than anything the PS3 can do).

I hope Microsoft do pull a rabbit out of their hat. For example if I can Skype chat with someone on PC while gaming on Xbox that would be pretty useful for me. However with Kinect 2 being bundled I can’t help thinking the console HAS to be less powerful to offset the cost. I don’t care which console is most popular, my priority is the one that will look and play the best. PS Eye 2 is a much much cheaper product than Kinect 2 so more money can go into the console itself. So come on Microsoft, I am waiting to be pleasantly surprised.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Curtis-Isabell/1036013363 Curtis Isabell

you would be right, but, most indie devs coming out are talking about how much of a pain it is to put their games on the xbox platform, see: Fez developer, the people who made Oddworld strangers Wrath and others.

          • O Mosqueda

The indies go to PS4, Vita, PS3 and Wii U (but not Wii) because of policies that help them develop and earn money, XBLA has some of the worst policies, Team Meat had a terrible time because MS gave them a deadline, Polytron (FEZ) and Reverge Labas (Skullgirls) couldn’t update and fix their games because of high fees and file size. Small indie devs are confined to low earnings and only the region they are from and, AFAIK, only the US and Japan have them.

    • EvanTheGamer

      Here’s hoping!

    • Marcus2012

Plus Blu-ray, I won’t EVEN CONSIDER getting one if it doesn’t support blu-ray.

      • http://twitter.com/MatthewKenealy Matthew Kenealy

PC doesn’t have blu-ray so why should Xbox if you have to install all games now anyway?

        • http://www.facebook.com/josericardo.passos Jose Ricardo Passos

But PC does have blu ray support….

          • http://twitter.com/MatthewKenealy Matthew Kenealy

I understand that, but you can’t buy games on Blu Ray. As for movies well that is for Xbox to work out whether it is worth investing all the money into the Blu Ray drives for it. Maybe they need it for storage but I would be surprised. I guess we’ll find out soon anyway.

          • http://www.facebook.com/josericardo.passos Jose Ricardo Passos

Most people just don’t buy physical games on PC anyway, Idk why thats a big deal.
Also, makes no sense to force the consumer into getting blu rays if all the games are going to be installed, and not run with the disc.

Also, I bet xbox is going the nintendo route: getting a big disc, but not blu ray, a proprietary of their own.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Curtis-Isabell/1036013363 Curtis Isabell

PC you don’t own your games only a license to use it.

          • http://twitter.com/MatthewKenealy Matthew Kenealy

That depends who you buy your games through, on Steam and Origin yes. On other services and some disc copies, no.

          • http://www.facebook.com/josericardo.passos Jose Ricardo Passos

The steam prices totally compensate for that. Doesn’t matter at all.

Also, with consoles you own the disc, but only have a license to the game, thats why bullshit such as on-disc dlc and online passes are allowed.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Curtis-Isabell/1036013363 Curtis Isabell

sometimes, they do, there are plenty of console game sales, people just don’t seem to look around, I picked up uncharted 3 GOTY for $20 a week ago.

          • http://www.facebook.com/josericardo.passos Jose Ricardo Passos

steam do stuff much better than that… like, muchhhh better.

Y’all can downvote me all you want, blu-ray or GTFO.

While I am confident it will use BD for games, why is it a deal breaker? I am guessing that by now everyone has separate blu-ray player,

        • Marcus2012

I have two blu-ray players in fact, but the thing is, I’ll clearly be using a console more often than a cheap-shit blu-ray player.

Hmmm … interesting to see what others value in the next generation console. I want them to release the best gaming experience possible on both the hardware and online services fronts.

I would much rather Microsoft spend resources on better next-gen hardware then on backwards compatibility. I am also open to eliminating used games entirely, if this means I can buy or subscribe to games through a digital store on Live, instead of having to travel to a brick&mortar retail outlet. Bonus points if those same games can be played on a Windows 8+ compatible PC. Both Steam and iOS offer gaming content through digital stores only, this is the future.

Always online could be a big win if they are developing cloud services that enhance single player experiences. I could probably count the minutes my Xbox 360 has been offline and in use since 2005 on one hand. To me, offline access is a complete non-issue.

      • http://www.facebook.com/adamdjt Adam Daniel John Thompson

Rumours suggest the backwards compatibility add-on needs always online, which is fine by me.
In Aus and with some line issues, I don’t always get a stable connection to Xbox servers, so I wouldn’t buy it if I couldn’t play games when I lose connection to servers.

I totally agree whatcha just said Joshua.
        – Non Backwards Compatibility (Out Wit’ The Old ‘N In Wit’ The New)
        – Eliminatin’ The Used Games Market (To A Certain Extent Will Benefit Everyone) —> ;)
        I haven’t bought a used game for my Xbox 360 since 2005 ‘n I refuse to do so ‘n here’s why..
Cause when you go to GameStop or Electronics Boutique & trade your game
that you paid $65 for you don’t even get $30 you’ll be lucky to get twenty somethin’. The very next day I went to purchase a new game ‘n I seen my game that I previously just traded in sellin’ for $54. This is a proven fact even well into 2013.
This is why somethin’ must be done.. GameStop ‘n EB Games are makin’ most of the money — Microsoft only makes a small percentage outta that.
It isn’t Microsoft ripping you off it’s the used game market honestly.
        There has to be countermeasures.
I know that this is a hard time for everybody & I can understand why ppl are mad/uspset on used games butcha gotta look at this from a business prospective — any of us will be takin’ countermeasure so we’d stay a float so I respect Microsoft for that.

I also wanted to say when I was 16 I got rid of my PS2 ‘n bought my Xbox 1 on launch day NYC it was the best choice I’ve ever made. PlayStation 2 was a mistake ‘n Xbox corrected that mistake. *I’ll never make that mistake ever again.*

I back Microsoft ‘n support ‘em the fullest

eliminating the used game market hurts everyone. software sales will plummet and the game retail market as it is is quite frankly broken, the profit margin for retail on a new game is almost nothing no used games and I wouldn’t be surprised if gamestop bestbuy and even amazon stop selling the products. in comparison a video game might earn $2 for the store net profit while something like an HDMI cable will earn much more ( a $20 HDMI cable will be bought by a store for like $2 at most)

Restaurants sell food at about a 300% markup yet video games, something people don’t buy much are is less than 4% profit, a company cannot stay in business like that.

          • http://www.facebook.com/philip.meyer.75098 Philip Meyer

I understand completely Curtis ‘n I respect everyone’s opinions but if there’s countermeasures it should be addressed in an orderly fashion.
Whereas Microsoft ‘n GameStop will come to an agreement..
This won’t only benefit GameStop, Microsoft ‘n their investors but also us gamers.
At the end of the day I’m a gamer just like everyone on this site.

I can buy used games fairly cheaply, through private channels (eg ebay) rather than stores but plenty of stores about offer good prices.

If we end up with now 2nd hand market, MS/game publishers get to fix the price of their games. Games I can pick up for just a few pounds now are on the market place at 20+ still.

All that will happen is gaming gets more expensive.

    • http://twitter.com/YGBJammy Jamie Wood

It’s funny because it won’t be any of these 3.

    • Sebastian Woolley

It won’t be backwards compatible since this time round it will be using bluray disks, i believe u will be able to play used games, the 1 disk per console was a method Sony had managed to create which caused a big scare but will not be implemented, as for the always online DRM its rumored that it might have it, if it does then MS are stupid while the world is pretty much connected as it is, if our Internet goes we can still play our console but with the always online if any thing were to happen to our interent or at MS end then they would be nothing more than a flashy paperweight and since half the worlds Internet isn’t that stable they will lose out on so many customers.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Curtis-Isabell/1036013363 Curtis Isabell

you realize blu ray players can play dvds right? the always online thing will be funny if true but I 100% gurentee the fan idiots will say it’s a good thing.

    • O Mosqueda

Contrary to what happened with the PS4 when some of the features leaked, MS apparently won’t listen to us. Since Paul Thurrott was right with the reveal date, like all the media are saying, he might be right with everything else. If you look back to the history of the XBOX, you’ll see they didn’t listen to anyone and succeeded because of it. With the original XB, people didn’t want to pay for access to XBOX Live and wanted dial-up too. With X360, we didn’t want to keep paying for XBOX Live and didn’t want DLCs and digital formats and an “optional” HDD. Since we have dealt with it, I guess MS is pretty confident we will deal with it again. Just one thing for MS, if you won’t, I mean, since there won’t be BC and used games, drop the BD/DVD/CD drive, what would be the point, if we will end up recycling after its use in one console, save the plastic, instead just issue cards with redeem codes if you still want to make physical collectibles. Cardbord is easier to recycle than BD´s.

Agreed, backwards compatibility makes it an instant purchase. No backwards compatibility means wait a couple years til I’m sure I’m done with my older games. I think for a lot of people, it’s a burden to keep multiple systems hooked up to your TV. I only want one device and I want it to play my current and older games.

    • Anthony Tarantino

I’m more concerned about their first-party exclusives. They can’t rely on Halo, Forza, Fable, and Gears of War forever.

why do u need backward compatible?u got your xbox360 right?so just keep it and dont cry like baby

    • Kenzibit

100% agreed BUT WAIT! That might not be the case. I’ve already primed and prepared myself for the BAD news…remember that unfaithful day the announcement about Windows Phone 7s not being upgradable to 8?..after all the wishful thinkings, warnings, pleading and hoping for the best on tech forums?. Microsoft is kinda now known for giving us unexpected and undesirable news, so don’t hope to hear all three of your features being met. For me, I’m expecting No backwards compatibility, can’t play used games and will be always online….it’s sad and painful to me but I’ve known Microsoft since Windows Mobile and Win 95 days and that’s the news they gonna give. Prepare yourselves and accept it so that day (May 21) doesn’t become a bad day for you.

For the first third of Mass Effect 3 I controlled my squad with voice and it worked about 95% with sometimes notable latency. After the first third the fights were intense enough that “pausing the game” by bringing up the skill wheel was just too darn useful. In other words, going back to the normal squad control method gave me time to think about what I was doing.

If they cut the latency by 50-75% and have an HD camera as rumored, it will be crazy good.

With E3 around the corner of this reveal, I wonder if they will leave out most of the goodies till E3. Either way, nice to know, i’ll be watching.

  • http://twitter.com/EricSHutchison Eric Hutchison

I hope all these rumors have been wrong. I hope this new Xbox not only blows away the competition from a hardware standpoint, but that it’s also backwards compatible and that you’re going to announce new, exclusive IP’s. “Halo” and “Gears of War” are great franchises, but that’s just not enough to separate the Xbox brand from others anymore. I believe that MS has gotten a bit lazy in the last few years, and it’s time to take back control of the market.

  • Reinier Martinez

    • Nick Peck

Don’t worry, free psn won’t be around forever. Sony has a taste of what it has been missing out on with psn+ so they will be moving everyone to that. Plus $40 is nothing for XBL lol, get over it already, son.

I agree PSN won’t be free forever, but you don’t have a clue about what you are talking do you?
The reason PSN wouldn’t keep itself free is due to high costs such as Gaikai streaming service, automatic updates, cloud servers.

  • Ethan Lewis

Deal with it…You guys are way to late to even win. You pissed people off even if the rumors are not true. The issues were that Adam Orth basically blew the lid off the always online, Microsoft is making dumb decisions as of late (Windows 8 as a whole was a mistake), Devs are flocking to Sony because of XBLA which I like but the developers do not (Bastion is still my fave game on there), $60 bucks a year for online is retarded and if I have to pay that on top of a always on system then I will never buy the 720. You guys have the disease Sony had with the PS3 and Nintendo with the N64. “We are popular enough, people are to stupid to realize that we are ripping them off”. Honestly I hope this is not true but if it is many people will be upset.

    • Ethan Lewis

BTW I own all the consoles right now besides the Wii U, so do not say I am a Sony fanboy. One of my fave games is Alan Wake. I do like the Vita a lot though, but thats a argument for another time.

      • http://www.facebook.com/matthew.parker.796774 Matthew Parker

Vita was a case of not giving it the attention it deserved :/ i personally love my vita and think its an innovation for touchscreen gaming and portable gaming, i agree with everything youve said, still that remaining shred of hope that Orth was just stirring a pot

      Blah blah blah blah….

There are probably a handful of “hardcore” gamers who claim to be “pissed off” with Microsoft’s reluctance to cave into demands to reveal all early after a few rumours started spreading. The rest of us are happy to wait and see what is actually shown rather than peddling rumours.

And out of that handful I am fairly certain most of them will cave in and get a new XBOX anyway if it lives up to expectations, in fact, even if it doesn’t they’ll probably get one as they’ll not want to miss out on any exclusives.

Bottom line, these “threats” by some are laughable.

      • http://www.facebook.com/josericardo.passos Jose Ricardo Passos

While some people are dumb enough to make threats they won’t fulfill, a lot of people would actually not buy the nextbox if any of the rumours are true.
Regardless of wich exclusives microsoft gets (and to be fair, the only xbox360 “exclusive” I loved this gen weren’t exclusive at all, alan wake) if they make it online-only I’m not even getting close to the console.

  • nsnsmj

Better let me play my Xbox360 Arcade, Digital Download, and disk games; remember saying that Xbox360 games would be “forward compatible” with the next Xbox console?
Better not overcharge me for Hard Drives again.
Actually, letting me use PC USB peripherals like PS3 did would be wise too.

Better do this stuff, or I’ll get be making the PS4 or STEAMBOX my main gaming machine next gen.

    • NAM37

      >> Better let me play my games offline.

Is that something you do a lot? My Xbox hasn’t been offline since the release of Live (for the ORIGINAL Xbox).

      • Saxon

So then please tell me why we need Microsoft to make our consoles online *even more*? What’s wrong with things the way they are now? What do we, the consumers, get out of this deal?

      • ikari_paul

people that say that always-on is no problem seem to miss a point. Not everyone has great internet (depends on where you live). But the real problem is that the publishers servers are always crashing/going offline. Xbox Live had problems last weekend (couldnt log in); Uplay was hacked a couple of weeks ago, and was out for a considerable period of time; SimCity’s servers are a disaster…

As you can see, even if your broadband is workinf flawlessly, Microsoft’s, EA’s, Ubisoft’s servers might have problems, and thus would prevent you from playing a SINGLE PLAYER GAME!

…not mentioning the fact that the user has nothing to gain from being forced to be always on? honestly, ask yourself, what do you gain from that? nothing. A console should offer the possibilty to be always online, but should not force it as mandatory. hope i have opened your eyes

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1323575184 Rich Unsworth

          • http://twitter.com/Shteffilove Stef

While that MAY be the case now, I remember a point a few years ago when Live was down for almost 2 weeks in certain areas, my area being one of them. I can’t imagine something like that happening again and not being able to play any games at all because Microsoft’s servers were down.
