Arcade, Deal, Game Add-on, Xbox 360 Games On Demand By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Rohan Mayers

When is Injustice coming as a game on demand?

    • John Doe

Not for a very long time.

    • aXa

By the time it will you still gonna end up with better deal buying retail version most likely half the price unless you are an idiot and wanna pay 60 bucks

  • bigdavelezard

    No Resident Evil Revelations Demo

    • John

      …or Doritos Crash Course 2.

      • Does Not Equal

If only it were releasing on the 8th for free. That would be something.

      • Does Not Equal

If only that were being released on the 8th.

    • John Doe

Sometimes the blog doesn’t announce demos but they release anyway, I hope they do release the demo for that, really looking forward to it.

  • Josh Hull

    This is the worst.

  • mcmax3000

Seeing Battlefield 3: Premium on sale next week kind of stings, since I just made the decision to get back into BF3 for the summer, and bought it at full price on Sunday, but hey, that’s how things go.

I really like the look of Monaco, but that seems to me like a game that you would need friends playing to really enjoy, and I don’t think I’ll have that.

    • Andrew Harvey

      • mcmax3000

        Ummmm… Thanks?

  • John Thomas

besides injustice….wtf kinda garbage is this?

  • Chris White

Yes! LEGO Lord of the Rings!! I have been WAITING for it to hit digital release. I’m not sure why LotR is being released before LEGO Batman 2, but I will take it!

  • Celso Nobre

  • Chris Hofer

There seems to be more discounts than just these this week if you look at xbldb [dot] com. Discounts on DJ Hero DLC, Guitar Hero DLC, and discounts on Games on Demand titles…to name a few. Look under “Price Decreases”. :-)

    • Chris Hofer

Major did say “some”. So, check the other site for more deals.

  • Z4M0

ILOMILO seems to be 400 msp too, and avaliable to all, not just gold users. It is, by far the best thing you could play out of that list of reduced price list.

Joyride Turbo is also on sale but as the rest of the titles might not be worth even at half price (would even include serious sam double d).

Another week I won’t be spending a point. Fortunately, last month’s rewards promo left me with a ton of games to play.

  • Jason Peek

When is the new full house poker coming out?

    • xPutNameHerex

The World Series of Poker starts up again on May 29th I believe, so I would expect that day +/- 1 week.

  • Raheel Khurshid

nothing good again at all, we all wait for 2 weeks and then this trash comes out..especially these sorts of games on demand and same repetitive sales again. Whoever brings these sales has no shame and should be executed

  • Hugoku

Except for Monaco this list is pretty weak. Winding down to the 21st announcement.

    • Fernando Coli Viotto

Yup! In fact the name Monaco called me more attention than all the sales offers together. Is that the old Monaco GP for Mega Drive? I’m also wondering what is “Gems Sale”…

Hopefully they will perform a huge sale at the announcement week.

      Cheers buddy

      • mcmax3000

“Is that the old Monaco GP for Mega Drive?”

No. It’s a four player co-operative heist game.

        • Fernando Coli Viotto

          Ahhh.. that Monaco.

          Bypassing it for now.

      • Michael Burden

The “Gems” sale is more than likely a sale on the Kinect Sports Gems, which are single events pulled from the Kinect Sports collections and sold individually.

        • Fernando Coli Viotto

  • ryder4life22187

the first two serious sams are drm free so it defeats the purpose of paying 400msp.

    • John Doe

Exactly what I was thinking. Variety. After waiting two weeks to come to this?…ugh.

  • ryan

Fist of the North Star and Just Dance Disney? A mere week after releasing Onechanbara? Have I died and gone to heaven???

  • Volitar Prime

What happened to Doritos Crash Course 2?

    • Z4M0

it’s coming the 8th for FREE… you know how “MS’s official news source” works…

    • Does Not Equal

      Larry Hryb ‏@majornelson 6 May
“Doritos Crash Course 2″ is coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade this Wednesday for #Free

  • Edward CORE

When will we ever get the most recent retail releases on Games on Demand? PSN has a lot of day one releases and we get nothing? Where’s DmC, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Sonic and Sega All Star Racing Transformed, Metal Gear Rising, just to name a few? I would have got them all by now, since I haven’t bought any of those for home consoles, only for Steam. MS has to get moving fast, it’s insulting that we still have to wait for day one releases, they should be available in the same day for download as the retail version is released.

    • mcmax3000

Microsoft doesn’t want to anger the retailers that they’re counting on
to push their hardware, that’s why games take so long to come to Games
on Demand, and why the prices are mostly incredibly high when they finally do hit the service.

      • dibils

lets not forget PSN puts the games at £49.99 when at retail its £37.99 (in the UK anyway). so PSN may aswell not bother putting the games on there cause only fools and idiots would pay over £10 just so they dont have to change discs + lose the ability to trade in

        • John Doe

You’ll be surprised how many peope cater to digital just so they don’t have to get up to change disc, it’s sad. Not making this up.

          • ryder4life22187

It’s gonna be a funny day for those that buy all those GoD when Live is shut down on their 360 and they wind up needing to buy a new xbox and find out they can’t transfer their licenses to their new box and can’t redownload them.

      • Paul Cotter

I could see that being a reason why they don’t want to make the intially cheaper or putting it on sale for cheaper than the price of brick and mortar retail stores but how is it angering retailers when Microsoft puts the game out the day it comes out for FULL retail price? Most retailers have some sort of release day deal anyway (gift cards, credits towards another game, pre-order bonus, etc) as an incentive to shop at their store. So even if Microsoft also releases the game the day it comes out, you are still getting a deal by going to your local store and picking it up.

        • mcmax3000

Because even if the games are priced the same, or very similarly, there are going to be a number of people that will choose to download it over going to the store, simply because of the convenience.

Also, a digital version of the game can’t be traded in, meaning less used games for the retailers to make money on later.

          • Bush O Connor

i would imagine only a very very small percentage of people would prefer to download on day 1. i wouldn’t anyway not with the price of hdd’s on xbox.

          • mcmax3000

I imagine it would still be in the minority, but I think the percentage would be higher than you think.

For me, it has to do with my ISP’s bandwidth restrictions, more so than HDD pricing. I’ll be sticking with retail for a long time.

      • John Doe

That doesn’t even sound logical, how could they piss off their retailers by releasing games on day one, but when they finally release a game on the GoD service, the price is jacked up?
You think that wouldn’t piss them off? It’s not like people don’t buy these jacked up digital priced games since they can’t be assed to drive to the store to get it cheap.

        • mcmax3000

Why would increased prices on Games on Demand anger off the retailers? The retailers WANT that, because it gives you more incentive to go to their store to buy the game, instead of just downloading it at home.

The retailers don’t want competition. They want to continue being the only option for you to buy a game on day one, and with the consoles, they have the leverage of the fact that the console makers need the retailers to sell their hardware, an issue Steam doesn’t have to deal with, hence why Steam can do some of the things they do as far as pricing, when the consoles can’t (not being a public company is also a huge factor as well).

          • John Doe

I like how you are asking me a question when my answer to it is found in the very comment you are replying to.

So again, how would day 1 releases from Microsoft anger retailers when it’s clearly obvious that Microsoft don’t care about them? Surely M$ has thought to themselves that their jacked up prices would drive away the consumers to rather going to the store, but the thing is, it doesn’t. More people rather prefer digital over physical copies of games, regardless of cost.

And you’re talking as if going day one on games would make retail stores stop selling Xbox 360 consoles which couldn’t be anywhere close to possibly happening.
Yeah, be the only store known to not sell a certain console, see how much business you get compared to the other that’s 10 minutes away, oh that will teach Microsoft a lesson, grrrr *shakes fist*.

          • mcmax3000

            To address your first question,
the reason that day one releases would anger them more than the current situation is simple… Most games sell most of their copies within the first month, or two. After that, the stores aren’t going to make a ton of money on most games (there are a few exceptions, but not many), so atthat point, they don’t care about Microsoft selling the games on Games on Demand, especially with increased prices.

On day one, if Microsoft is selling the same game, at the same price, that eats into their sales, which would anger the retailers.

As for your second point, there are a lot more factors than just
whether, or not they’re selling the console. You’re right that stores aren’t likely to stop selling the system (though if Microsoft got aggressive on their pricing, like Steam, you can bet they’d be making that kind of threat), but it goes beyond that…

It’s how the console is positioned in the store, it’s advertising
(featuring the console/games/accessories in flyers, TV, and web ads), it’s in store displays, it’s getting store employees to push one system over the others etc.

Those are the types of things that a store provides to Microsoft (and other console manufacturers) that they can threaten to decrease/pull completely if they feel like Microsoft is eating into their ability to sell games.

      • BlinkFandango

How does PSN get away with it then? If Sony can do it, why can’t Microsoft?

        • mcmax3000

It’s not that Microsoft can’t do it, it’s that they’re not willing to take the risk of angering the retailers like Sony is (if you go back to when Sony announced the Day 1 Digital program, there was a lot of talk about whether, or not the retailers will be angry about it).

I’m also thinking that “all games available digitally on day one!” will be a “feature” that Microsoft trumpets about the new Xbox when it’s revealed in two weeks as well to make the system more desirable over the 360.

In the next generation, I don’t see day one digital as being optional (heck, even Nintendo is doing it on the Wii U).

        • Jorge Garza

Becaaaaaause, Sony has their own retail stores! Microsoft does not.

      • kit walker

is that just ur speculation, or do u have a source?

        • mcmax3000

The part about the lack of day one releases being due to them not wanting to anger retailers is something that a Microsoft rep actually stated publicly at one point, not that long ago.

It was phrased more in PR speak, but that’s effectively what they said. I would link you to the article on Joystiq, but anytime I post links here, the comment goes into moderation. If you Google ‘Joystiq Games on Demand’, it’s pretty close to the top.

Anything else I’ve said that’s not covered in that answer from Microsoft is speculation based on various things I’ve read over the years (both directly related to this type of thing, and more general stuff).

    • Cooper Bockus

I completely agree. Bottomline: Why is Games on Demand so inferior to PS Store?
MS doesn’t want to piss off the retailers they rely on to sell their hardware?
Huh, last time I checked retailers are still selling PS3s and PS3 games.
So, what’s this risk that Sony clear doesn’t see?

GoD is practically archaic compared to the PSN Store now… It’s all month(s) old games, listed for inflated prices.
Where PSN has Day1 release for 59.99. They even had Tomb Raider for 50% sale, and there hasn’t even a game that new on GoD…

      • mcmax3000

Oh, Sony sees the risk, they’ve just decided that the benefit outweighs the risk. Microsoft has decided it’s not (or, more likely, I think they’ve decided it’s something they want to save to tout as a feature for their next system). Without having a ton of insider business information, nobody can say for sure what the better approach is.

Obviously from a consumer perspective, Sony’s approach is vastly superior.

      • Jorge Garza

Sony has their own retail stores, that´s why they are not afraid.

        • mcmax3000

I worked for that part of Sony for a year, and a half (just as a low level call centre employee, nothing special), and unless something has changed significantly since then, those stores aren’t super successful.

They’re not money pits, or anything, but they’re not going to save Sony if they really piss off the major retailers.

          • Jorge Garza

In case GameStop and other retail stores stops selling consoles (both Ps3 and Xbox), people who want a console are going to have to get it on another source. So, people who are not sure about wich one they should get, probably are going to get the one they find first. Even the people who wants a Xbox, if they doesn´t have easy access to somewhere to buy the console, they might get a Ps3 just because it´s easier to get.

If that happend, Sony already has retail stores, and Microsoft would have to sell their consoles maybe online or make a really rush to make their retail stores so they can sell their consoles, leaving them in a bad position.

Anyway, this is my opinion and it does not means it´s the truth, is just what I believe could happen.

And maybe you have easy access to Internet shopping and this doesn´t make sense to you or other people, but in some countries like mine (México), we don´t used to shop over the Internet because there are no huge trusty online stores who sell on our countries with solid guarantee policies.

        • Boe2

Maybe it’s different in the US, but over here Sony stores don’t sell games, only ridiculously overpriced equipment.

          • mcmax3000

From my experience, Sony stores in North America generally have a small Playstation section, with a small selection of games, but not a ton.

  • Simmo Lahi

    Very good deals, both weeks
Few days ago i find this game (serious sam) i like this game
    i buy all series

  • BlinkFandango

Battlefield 3 with Premium was down to $20 at one point in retail stores, these deals are heading towards the joke side. I expected better from MS leading up to their big announcement. At least for once they are selling the game and the DLC at the same time. Tell your deals team to do that more often, you’ll sell more games that way.

    • Fernando Coli Viotto

I agree. Especially considering that Microsoft was branding around that they were working close with GameStop… so when you look at this prices you feel like a customer in a sales trap.

    • mcmax3000

Where are you seeing that the game is on sale? All I’m seeing is Premium, and the separate expansions.

I’m pretty sure where it says ‘Battlefield 3′ is just the title for the sale.

      • BlinkFandango

Oh, I thought it was a sale for the game too, well that just makes the sale even worse. Why not put the game AND DLC on sale at the same time? Do you hire freshman from college to do these deals? it’s as if Microsoft doesn’t want money.

  • イサム オミナエ

    Serious Sam AGAIN?

  • John Doe

So Major, wtf is with the Xbox Live Rewards? Could had sworn we will get our rewards on May 1, and the last time I checked there was nothing new going on this month. Please correct me anybody if I’m wrong.

    • Chris Grub

They’re probably going to screw around with that program and announce it when they announce the next XBOX in late May.

They have to compete with PSN somehow. Lot’s of customers don’t know what they’re going to do.

    • Chris Hofer

If you are referring to myPunchcard for April and fulfilled all the requirements, the Xbox Live Rewards team on Twitter said you should have your rewards by May 30th.

    • mcmax3000

Rewards points generally get deposited around the 15th of every month, not the first.

Sometimes they do it earlier than that, but not always.

      • Michael Burden

It is actually either the 1st or the 15th depending upon when the totals are tallied. They changed it some time ago to twice a month instead of once a month for point deposits. Once they have the totals tallied and it is over 100 points, they will make the deposit to the account prior to the 1st or 15th. Looks like they are running a little behind this month and special promotions (like the punch card) run on their own specified timeline.

        • mcmax3000

Ah, I didn’t realize they had changed to twice monthly. I’ve wondered a couple of times when I’ve gotten my deposit so early. Makes sense now.

  • Chico Edge

Next week’s Gems sale better not be Bejeweled…

    • Michael Burden

The Gems in next week’s sale is more than likely the Kinect Sports Gems which are individual events pulled from the Kinect Sports games.

      • Chico Edge

That makes sense. Especially for $2 each.

  • Tylerh1701

Not a great set of deals, but I’ll check out the Serious Sam 3 and Double D XXL demos for that price.

  • Tomas Misevičius

WOW!! This is the first time in almost 2 years when BF3 addons are on sale in XBL. Right?!

    • mcmax3000

No. Premium, and at least one of the add-ons were on sale a month, or so ago during an EA Publisher sale. There might’ve been other ones before that, but that one I know for sure, because I considering buying Premium at the time.

      • Jorge Garza

        Someone can´t get sarcasm lol

  • Mario Pendleton マリオ

Not much to look forward to here.

  • Bush O Connor

is that 400msp just for lobo?

    • lethargicj

Yep. 5 dollars for one character is asinine. 5 dollars should get a pack of 3 or 4.

  • Curtis Isabell

or you can by bf3 premium edition for $40 and get the full game + premium…. that’s what I did like 8 months ago, I traded in BF3 for like $20 and bought BF3premium edition for $40. (so I spent $20 on the maps) It’s fun and all but this late in the game the map packs and premium should be like $15 for the game and $15 for premium.

    • mcmax3000

That’s not an option for everyone, in every region. I was just looking around to try, and do something similar, but there was nowhere around here selling the Premium edition for less than $60 (a fact that changed the day after I bought Premium, but on Sunday, that was the case).

      • Curtis Isabell

atm they are not, but it’s been on sale around $40 multiple times, and on black friday it was $25 at walmart. true it might not be availible outside of the states for those prices, but if you look for deals you will find them, wouldn’t be surprised if it hits $40 before e3 is shown.

  • Nate Wells

Might pick up serious sam excel saga double d xxl card games on motorcycles edition. Maybe.

  • Matthew

Ugh. Gotta wait two more weeks for something good :(

    • Bennijin

      Probably a lot longer.

  • Jared Walsh

Serious Samis on sale too on steam for the same price right now

  • Paul

Please can you tell me when the Skyrim DLC is going to be on sale again (800 points)? I missed the last sale window :(

  • loftyinthanet

is hunter trophy America getting a uk release? I love hunting games and cabelas have fallen short lately.. is there a way I can get it if it doesn’t have a release here?

  • Bennijin

You’ve had it for two more months than anyone just buying it.

  • Bennijin

Well I didn’t get Serious Sam 3 + DLC at Christmas for 600 each and I didn’t have DDXXL so that’s alright for me. That being said, DLC should not cost as much as (or more than) the game it’s for. Ever.

I’ve seen BF3+Premium at retail for roughly what you’re charging for just Premium when it’s “on sale” so no thanks.

  • Bennijin

Yes it has, 600MSP each December time so this deal is at least better that that one. First time sale for DDXXL too.

  • Bennijin

“You’re not only one of them, you’re their spokesperson!”

See how much better that is? Stay in school, kids.

  • Vince

Why am I paying for Xbox Live!!!???

    • Riddick Snipes

Serious Sam 2 is not available for purchase in oz just the trial. Been like this ever since it came out. However lazy region dashboard programming would lead us to believe otherwise. Weak.

  • PittaMan

Man… It really is new console season…
