This is what the Xbox One Game case will look like

Show here with Forza Motorsport 5

Xbox One By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

Yea, this is what everyone cares about. Not the used games and always on things being thrown around. Like Gob Bluth would say, “COME ON!”

  • Robert Willey

Amazing the whiners complainers and haters. Can’t even wait for all the facts to be in. I am not sold yet because they are not done giving their presentation. Once I have all the FACTS I will make a decision.

I will say this tho……I LIKE WHAT I SEE SO FAR.

    • safdf

Either you are rich or TV subscriber, you are certainly not a gamer/peasant. You’ll have Shaniqua1990’s/MS seal of approval.

    • MrRadiolips

Your not a gamer are you? Have fun with your Roku box that happens to play games.

      • Robert Willey

Big gamer. So Ur all mad cause they put games off until part 2 of their presentation. Perfectly silly uninformed opinion.

        • MrRadiolips

My point is that it should be more about the gamer not a media enriched device that takes away the heart and soul of what they started. Xbox just used to be Xbox now its compared to McDonalds,Nike,Pizza hut or even 7-11. It lost its class.Just because so they can make more money.

          • Robert Willey

So it will be a premier next gen game console plus do lots of other cool stuff. Yea, awful. Just awful

          • MrRadiolips

Well i have kids and i feel like its a bad decision to have to buy more than one of the same game just so they can play it. My kids cant share their games anymore.

          • Robert Willey

Again letting Ur imagination run wild off RUMORS. $100 says Ur kids can share.

          • MrRadiolips

You havent been paying attention have you…its already been confirmed.

          • MrRadiolips

Here you go: article from the examiner.

Don Mattrick confirmed that various actions can be done without having to be connected to the internet. Single player campaigns can still be played even without an internet connection, and the same goes for Blu Ray discs and a few other features. With that said, the focus is most definitely on the online functionality. It has also been confirmed that a game’s Blu Ray disc will only be used for the initial installation, and are not needed afterwards.

Unfortunately, one of the negative rumors going around has been confirmed. Installed games are tied to a specific Xbox account. In order to play a used or borrowed title, gamers will have to pay an additional fee. The exact price of playing a used game has not been announced. One can assume that it won’t be marginal, as gamers could just share one copy if the full price only had to be paid once.

The Xbox One will also not be backwards compatible. Xbox 360 retail and downloaded titles will not be supported, due to incompatible hardware. This is similar Sony’s upcoming Playstation 4. Gamer Score, however, will transfer to the new system, so those who have spent years obtaining achievements have nothing to worry about.

        • http://www.facebook.com/UrzuSix Paul Rolland

My issue is the fact Microsoft studios have done nothing in the last two, three year and most have just left like Bungie and Mistwalker, Remedy are awesome but not a Microsoft Studio they can bring there games onto different platforms if they wish. If you look over at Sony there Studios are doing some awesome things right now with beyond two souls and Last of us. So I really hope they have something to show E3, cus they need it

  • http://twitter.com/dlchief58 Michael Burden

There would be very little difference in the difficulty between implementing BC on Arcade and retail games because they are written in the same code for the same processor. It would be no easier and probably less return on investment. I can’t understand why people think that their Arcade titles should have been an exception, do they not understand how computers and programming works on the most basic level?

    • Steve Of The O

The return on investment would come from people sticking with Microsoft rather than looking elsewhere. Fair enough if its not worth it to them to keep their current customers happy then I hope they generate enough new custom from late adopters of video game consoles based solely on its home entertainment capabilities which I’m betting isn’t many.

  • Anthony Yates

Just a shame all boxed copies of the game are going to be mostly pointless from a collectors stand point giving that all games will be like GoD now and the disc is just a content disc to save you downloading the data over the internet. Today or years down the line I could sell my 360 and 100+ games or give to kids/grand kids and know they will all work. You will not be able to say the same for XB1 games.

    • safdf

Maybe that’s a new market MS is looking forward to, considering they’ll drop physical media in a few years and the discs will be disposed of easily, they will become useless high-priced collectibles to be placed in glass boxes for exhibition.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Curtis-Isabell/1036013363 Curtis Isabell

the minute they drop physical media people will jump on sony or pc because steam sales put xbox pricing to shame.

        • Anthony Yates

Yeah that’s the other question. If the games are really just content discs now and the digital only version is available on same day as retail disc, then at worst case they should be the same price but really the digital version should be cheaper. I would expect they would still be higher though because MS not wanting to piss off retails anymore than they already have with used trade-in issue, or maybe they don’t care anymore.
Also now that XB1 and PS4 use the same PC x64 architecture the prices should really be more on par with PC games, although I doubt it will. Before the argument would be higher development cost because of different technology but now that argument will not stand. Anything they develop on PC should be easily portable to XB1 and PS4 so I would want to see similar prices.

      • Anthony Yates

If anything it will be the 360 discs that will be collectibles now. The last true disc based games that work on their own.

    • http://photovoltaik.bandcamp.com/ Ujn Hunter

Don’t buy it. Why waste your money on disposable data when there are other options. Vote with your wallet.

  • MrRadiolips

Im assuming not since i dont see a headset connection on the new controller but thats just me guessing so please dont take my word for it.

  • http://www.majornelson.com Major Nelson

I’ve been reading through many of them. And shared some of the more thoughtful ones. Just remember, many policies are not finalized. Once they are, we will share them

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bush-O-Connor/555604190 Bush O Connor

thats good to know major thanks for the info. as long as the policies have gamers in mind and not the big wigs pockets i think everyone will be happy :)

  • MrRadiolips

Are you crushing our spirits on purpose? Do you have something up your sleeves? Are pushing for a new fan base? Why did you have to ruin the Xbox name for the gamer…why?

    • safdf

Because MS is tired of having the name XBOX linked to gamers, they want it to be linked with American Multimedia an American subscribers.

    • Nick Peck

How did they ruin it? It will have top notch next gen games, the games will look and run exactly like the ps4’s games and you have a ton of options with the system even if you don’t think you will use them yet. Not seeing the problem here?
Also, I’ll say this for the millionth time, they said the games “show” will be at E3, where it BELONGS anyways. Wait another week or so and you will see plenty of gaming goodness for the system.

      • Ratros

“Waiting for E3″ isn’t an answer. I don’t know you but I’ve been with Microsoft for many years (Ok, I have to speak out, I used to be a Microsoft fanboy). I’ve got several Windows 8 PCs, 3 Windows Phones, 2 XBOX360s and I subscribes to several Microsoft services. I have to bear countless bugs on them and they always respond to it with “Waiting for the next release, we’ll fix it” or “We have visions and we know what’s best for our consumers”. Enough is enough.

Besides, Microsoft has a PR team. Bad news and rumors are everywhere, the entire Xbox community is outrageous and now they’re telling us to wait. People here are loyal consumers, all they want is a straight answer, how hard could that be? It’s like telling your girlfriend/boyfriend to f*** off during a fight – not a good choice.

        • safdf

Waiting for the launch day is the real answer, they won’t answer anything to anyone, the XBOX community is not the XBOX ONE community they want. They think they know what is better for consumers and that’s what will get, show them how you feel when the products are in the stores by not buying them, not with petitions and millions of forum posts.

        • Nick Peck

yes, wait for E3 is an answer because that’s what they said before their event. The event was NOT geared to show everything they have for the games side of things. E3 is all about the game FIRST, then the tech. They said it would take multiple “shows” to show everything they want to show.

Why dump everything you have in an event 2 weeks before E3? Not sure how old you are but man, were you around for at least the NES days? Back then the ONLY thing you had to find about new games and systems was the Nintendo Magazine lol. I almost hate the internet for this stuff anymore as you end up knowing everything before it happens.

There is no real surprises anymore. MS is doing this correctly because I for one would have fallen asleep if they tried to cram a ton of everything (kinda like sonys failed reveal). I’d rather have one show – show me a lot of one area of the system then have the other show – show me everything else.

So take the reverse, sony show some pretty poor games, yet didn’t show any of the hardware, what do people have to say about that? How is that ANY different then MS showing the hardware and a few games, but not all of them? Really people?

I love MS, always have, but I’m not a blind fanboy, I bought Wii U (damn Monster Hunter 3U is like crack) and I owned one or two ps3 since it was out. I love game and will play the games I want to on any system. I used to be into PC’s big time many years back but got sick of sitting at a desk (plus using a mouse all day kills my wrist anymore).

I know, plug it into a tv.. yah but trying to sit horribly while trying to use a mouse n keyboard on a coffee table or on your lap is a joke. I prefer the controller these days so it’s all good.

          • safdf

E3, more diversion, more confusion, more fears, more rumors, more misleading, less gamers interested, more gadget-consuming freaks. MS wins.

          • Nick Peck

Lol, do you know what E3 is? Ever been there or seen on? You get to see and play more. If it’s not interesting then why even come onto a site like this and comment?

Sony and or any other company doesn’t do the same thing? Yup, they all do. There is an underlying time line, some stuff is more ready than others so of course you don’t always see everything you “WANT” to.

  • Car

I feel bad for all the people that don’t have internet access all the time.

    • Robert Willey

I feel bad for people who feel bad for people when they don’t even know the facts.

      • Nick Peck

Yup, same here, well sort of. I don’t feel sorry for idiots like Car here lol. It’s only been confirmed 100x that that’s not the case, but he’s going to be the one to keep on it.

        • Car

its been confirmed that you need to connect every 24 hours to continue play, maybe i missed something, what have you all been hearing?

          • ryder4life22187

As much as I love my 360 it might be time to jump ship to Sony. I’m not liking forced internet connection and used game fees. It just tells me when next gen has come and passed that I’ve spent all this money on games I can no longer play due to forced connection and used games fee.

    • safdf

I feel bad for people who feel bad about 90% of the world not having something that’s not essential for living.

  • http://www.oneighturbo.com/ oneighturbo

We dig! wish it was a different car but clean design and @TopGear

  • Tyler Ray

I feel bad for all the people who are going off the entertainment side of the Xbox One and saying that the unreleased gaming side is nonexistent. Just take a deep breath and wait for E3, I mean, if 15 Xbox One ONLY games in the FIRST YEAR says that Microsoft doesn’t like the gaming community, I don’t know what will say otherwise.
O, and by the way, its called a retro look for a reason, I am sure they will have skins you can put over it if you don’t like it, but I will be proudly displaying mine as is.

    • tabicat

The reason that Microsoft doesn’t like the gaming community is because they’ve decided to punish gamers who are doing nothing wrong.

      • safdf

For them we’ve done wrong by not buying things the day of their release at the full price. That’s why they are punishing us.

      • EighteenCharacters

I’ve never seen so much whinging over something so trivial.

        • Mr na

lol .. Look at what you’ve typed . Ironic ain’t it.

      • tomo008866

        What are you on?

  • Voreo Sabrae

Id be ok with 1 time use licenses, if the games are made $20-30 on release. I mean your still getting a cut MS, pass the savings onto us gamers :)

    • safdf

For Shaniqua1990, the spokes-being of MS, every user not paying full price for the software is a criminal. Paying less makes you worse than a pirate.

      • Voreo Sabrae

^ This has nothing to do with what i said at all

        • safdf

Yes, it does, MS doesn’t want you to save with used or rented software, so don’t expect any considerations from them about you money worries, they only care about theirs.

          • Robert Willey

and why do you talk as is this is just a MS thing….You can rest assured, whatever the next-gen strategy is with used games, it will be agreed to by both Sony and MS. This is one thing they will agree on.

  • Time Will

don’t think people will buy the new xbox one due to it wont play the old 360 game at least the newer 360 games.people had put a lot of money into the 360 and u want them to buy a xbox one and when the xbox one comes out u they will stop making games for the 360

    • Nick Peck

The 360 will be supported for a few more years so theres that. Also, you do buy NEW systems for NEW content right? Keep your old system for the old stuff. If you don’t like having so many devices then that’s your issue.

      • Morgon Britton

        Exactly

  • Time Will

1 time use licenses what happens when you have to clean your drive or replace the box

    • ebonyglock

It’s tied to the account/profile. Nothing to do with the console.

Okay, I have thought about the Xbox One for the past 3 days and have a few remarks and questions on the Xbox One. I have a few questions and remarks I would like to convey to Don Mattrick so I hope you will forward this to him Major Nelson.

    Dear Mister Mattrick,

Congratulations on starting the new generation with the Xbox One! I hope that Microsoft will attain the success that you have had with the Xbox and subsequent Xbox 360 and surpass that for a bright future of the Xbox platform.

With full anticipation I have been waiting for you next generation console reveal that finally arrived this week. I’d like to say I am extatic, I welcome all the new features, but I fear you have made a few errors with your new machine and would like to know what your motivations behind those design choices were. If I’m inccorect in my assumptions please inform us, your customers!

First of all, let’s talk about the TV features. While I realize that most television providers are going to step away from CableCard and PCMCIA/CI slot protection in the future in favor of IP based television services that work on many devices in the home behind a router (thus there being no tuner in Xbox One), I would like to know if the TV feature on the Xbox One will also work for people that watch TV through their television with one of these methods?
Would the IR blaster be able to attach to my Samsung SmartTV and pass your overlay through HDMI CEC ports for example?

    – Will you be making TV enhanced like for example the presidential debates on the Xbox 360 last year?

    – Will the recording of TV programs be supported and if not, why do you think your customers will still want to buy the Xbox One as their all-in-one STB if this feature is not present?

I know for a fact that you are making contracts with several major television partners around the globe to have a broader audience and market penetration, but why did you not announce any of these partners? Because of this you have given the impression that this was US only, like many of your features have been on the Xbox 360.

As a second point, I’d like to ask you some questions about the hardware.

    – Having seen the Major Nelson hardware panel it became clear that some of the supposedly leaked specs were incomplete and that you have custom technical features under the hood that make your new system do way more with less. Why haven’t you made that clear at your presentation?

    – Why are the hard drives not replaceable? 500GB is not enough in this day and age, especially for core gamers now that installations are mandatory. Being able to attach external hard drives is nice, but that is another device that consumes power just to be able to consume your games and media. I have an 8TB Windows Home Server to stream my media, so I’m covered (if that is supported), but all of my friends do not have that luxury. Is there also a limitation on external drives like on the Xbox 360?

    – Why are there NO USB 3.0 ports on the front of the Xbox One? You position this as the ultimate media device for under my TV, yet you expect me to move my Xbox One from its cabinet every time I want to plug in a USB stick? Two USB ports are also not enough if you want users to attach external hard drives and people have profiles on a USB stick that they take to their friends to play games. Is there also no play and charge option for the new controllers that requires one of those ports?

    – Why have you opted for a regular BD drive instead of the more uncommon BD-XL? It would have been an additional protection measure and games are rapidly increasing in size. Will the drive support Blu-Ray discs that are larger in capacity than 50GBs?

-Since the Xbox One is architecturally incompatible with the Xbox 360, I understand that Xbox 360 and current XBLA games will not play on the Xbox One. Why have you not attempted to make any form of backwards compatibility?

I have over 80 retail games and over 350 XBLA games bought in the last 8 years. Though I will not play all of them again, I think your are sending a backwards message yourself to your loyal customers by giving them the idea that whatever they invested in this gen will at one point never be available to them again, like the original Xbox Live.
Everybody knows digital distribution will take over retail in the near future, but if the digital future is going to end up like this, let it be very clear that this is a very powerful and negative message that will keep people away from your platform at all cost!
I hope for MS’s sake that the optical drive-less Xbox Fusion (mini 360) rumors are true so that your current loyal customers won’t completely think you are giving them the middle finger and can play their 360 games on their Xbox One through this.

Thirdly, I’d like to ask you some questions about software features.

-The friends list will be expanded, but will this also be the case on the Xbox 360?

    – Will the Xbox One play Blu-ray movie discs out of the box or do people require to pay for a player like on Windows 8?

    – Why is cross-platform multiplayer not an option if we are still able to communicate with eachother? Isn’t just decent network programming required to make it work?

    – Will the app store be universal with Windows 8 and Phone 8? Will there be a public SDK for it?

    – Recording of gameplay has already been confirmed by various sources. What I would like to know is If those recordings are tied to my device or if they are freely movable between Xbox One’s. Are they in a standardized format, like the game installations?

    – You have stated that indie games for Xbox One will require a publisher, that you are willing to be for them, but will indie developers be able to publish games through other means on the Xbox One than your main “Games” tab. Will they be able to self publish to your app store like on Windows 8?

    Now, lastly about the games…

    – Why haven’t you given an example of the Cloud’s power in games? That’s your big differentiator. If the cloud can amplify the Xbox One’s power, we want to see that and then maybe people will not think always online is so bad for their games.

    – What will you be doing with Xbox Live Gold to improve value to the gamers that have supported you the last decade? Will you finally be making multiplayer free like on all the other platforms? Will you also make application with additional subscriptions free like on other platforms? If not, you have a problem with your current customer base and I would like you to explain why.

    – Now that games have mandatory installations and essentially made a digital purchase, will my bought discs be useless? Will the discs be resalable in any way and what is the price to be able to use the disc by a second party?
I have two Xbox 360’s. The fact that my digital purchases are tied to both my first console and my GamerTag gives me the benefit of playing on both consoles and by multiple people in the household. I would like to see this practice and the license transfer ability continued on the Xbox One. I’m not a pirate or a freeloader, but I do enjoy LAN parties with my friends from time to time and rumors and unclear statements make me very wary.

    – I love the fact that you announced 15 exclusive games and 8 being new IP’s! That’s what your console is supposed to be for. I just hope that all those games really cater to the gamers that made your platform where it is today. I hope that at E3 you will NOT talk about the media features AT ALL, so that this was just a hardware reveal and you wanted to get these additional features out of the way before smashing at E3. Any details about media and Kinect features should be handed out in press material.

I’m also hoping you will announce the price and that it is substantially below that $599 at Amazon. I think you will need to undercut the PS4 by a nice amount to remain competitive though. Cutting your rumored subsidization plan was not a wise idea IMHO.

I wish you the best of luck at E3!

Sincerely Yours and with Kind Regards,

    John

(I will not post my real name here because of harassment by a few parasitic PS fanboys on this site that Major Nelson refused to do anything about when I used to be a top commenter here a few years ago).

  • tomo008866

Jesus, if everyone in the world were like these so-called “gamers” in the comments section below, we’d still have phones that can only call and text, and no smartphones. “A phone is for calling, NOTHING more. I don’t want all these media features…” blah blah blah.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bush-O-Connor/555604190 Bush O Connor

thats all i use my phone for is calling and texting.

      • tomo008866

EXACTLY!!! Some people stick to calling and texting, while others use the new features that are offered.

Likewise, with Xbox One, some people LOVE the new features Microsoft are offering, while others will just prefer traditional gaming.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bush-O-Connor/555604190 Bush O Connor

im all for more options tomo, im watching back to the future 2 right now with sky on the xbox. its just the swapping games im pissed about and forced Kinect. every tv in my house has an xbox under it.

          • ryder4life22187

I’m not worried about forced kinect. I already have my Kinect attached to my wall and it doesn’t bother me. The only time it does is when i watch a video and they say xbox or someone says something close to the word pause it reacts to the video.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bush-O-Connor/555604190 Bush O Connor

i should of said its not optional ryder. i dont want it. i bought the last one and used it for a few days. its in storage ever since

          • ryder4life22187

i get what your saying. Just as much as we shouldnt have a forced connection to the internet even though i have my current 360 on the internet 24/7 im thinking about after the 1 stops getting supported.

          • Morgon Britton

You won’t be forced to use kinect that will be all up to the game makers

    • MrRadiolips

Thats why people buy consoles..just for a gaming. If they wanted to play games on a system that can do more they would buy a graphics card for their P.C. Simple as that. Plus buying a graphics card is way cheaper than buying a whole new console. Plus playing multiplayer on P.C. is FREE.

      • tomo008866

Then go use a PC, and stop complaining about features many people like. I really don’t get it. If you don’t want to use all of these features, all you have to do is… not use them. Simple. They said when they event was announced at first that the Xbox reveal would be broken up into two. 21st May being the introduction to Xbox One and E3 being the games part. They’ve said this well before the event, and yet people continue to complain. It’s baffling.

        • MrRadiolips

Well dont you think at the reveal they should of explained more about what went in to the GAMING SYSTEM than what went into the television feature. I mean come on it was a reveal.

          • Robert Willey

WHAT PART OF “STAY TUNED FOR PART 2 OF OUR PRESENTATION AT E3 WHEN THE FOCUS WILL BE ON GAMES” DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND????

          • safdf

We understand, and we are expecting like 2 hours of Forza footage, a teaser from Halo and more TV apps.

          • tomo008866

Well keep assuming, and keep whining. It’s so immature.

          • Robert Willey

That’s fine. Now, can I be assured when after the e3 presentation is done and the has revealed FAR FAR MORE than what you said, you will be on here jumping up and down with joy and glee and laughter?

          • safdf

That’s what they said about XBOX Reveal and we now have angry, confused and even fearful people.

          • Robert Willey

how about this…..let me just make a suggestion so you don’t have to go around all sad and miserable all the time over these horrific xbox one scenarios you have created in your head…..just wait…..wait until after the E3 presentation. Gather all the FACTS and then IF all your nightmare scenarios come to bare, then please be sad and miserable. But, at least wait for the FACTS.
I honestly think if you do wait for ALL the facts, you are going to find the xb1 ain’t the nightmare you’ve created in your mind based on rumors

          • safdf

I won’t wait for E3, I’ll wait for the day after launch. The E3 will be more diversion like XBOX Reveal.

          • decode

XBOX is not ready for seling yet.

          • http://twitter.com/sqlrob Rob

Unless that far more is “no internet connection needed for single player disks, ever”, no, I won’t be jumping for joy.

          • Morgon Britton

Major has already said you wont need to be connected 24/7

          • http://twitter.com/sqlrob Rob

“Won’t need to be connected 24/7″ is not the same thing as “Won’t need to be connected at all”

If you have Xbox live then you will be alright. If you don’t have internet this system isn’t for you simple as that.

          • http://twitter.com/sqlrob Rob

You really don’t understand the problem, do you? MS brings the auth servers down, you just lost every game you own. Have fun. Go google “Plays For Sure” if you think MS won’t.

THAT IS NOT THE POINT. OPEN YOUR BRAIN A LITTLE MORE PLEASE!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH!!

          • safdf

MS want everybody to get used to the idea of having a console for TV viewing purposes, they are succeeding, they got tomo008866, I bet he is an American, if that’s it, that’s exactly what they want, they want gamers and the rest of the “peasant” world out of the ONE.

          • decode

Why are you so worried about having extra features? play your games as you want. as PS4 and XBOX have same hardware they will have same quality as well.

          • tomo008866

Yes, I fully agree. But that does not justify all this whining EVERYWHERE. IT just DOESN’T! It’s ridiculous.

          • MrRadiolips

How else is a company going to know what the consumer wants if you dont complain?

      • Nick Peck

Consoles havent’ been just for gaming for awhile now, where have you been? They have played DVD’s , BR’s, and now it’s apps. The ps3 has a lot of music and movie apps as well (since sony does have their own labels / brands) like the 360.

The ps4 won’t be any different. I love all in one devices and honestly, I don’t want 20 boxes in my entertainment theater. I don’t just want a game system anymore either as now I expect it to have good music and tv / movie apps / playability.

Not everyone is the same and just because you either don’t like the direction they or going or just don’t fully understand it, well I don’t know what to tell you. They do studies on this stuff constantly and they simply KNOW what people ask for and or want.

They wouldn’t just be doing what they are doing as a complete guess lol. It’s to expensive to take a shot in the dark. There is so much R&D that goes on for things like that I bet most people have ZERO knowledge about it. They know what they are doing.

If you like the PC side then fine, bye.

      • decode

but PC for gaming costs close to 1500..and a console 500..

        • MrRadiolips

I can build a pc right now with better graphic than the xbone for about 750. Also you can have the ablilty to upgrade anytime you want plus gaming is free and dont need a gold subscription to use apps. Games are cheaper and cane have 3 monitors in eyefinity. Have ever played a game on PC before?

          • decode

It will be clumpsy and there will be no kinnect for now and there is no guarantee of parts.
to be frank i7 processor is close to 350 USD.

    • Tsara

Again, you are missing the point. It isn’t that people are up in arms about all the additional features. Ok, whatever, it does TV stuff.

It’s about all the things they have announced about the gaming side of things that DOES have we gamers up in arms for.

I quote from my last comment to you: “The confusion with Used Games. The lack of backwards compatibility. The idea that if your kid has his own XBOX and account in the same house, you will need to buy 2 copies of a game if you want to play it on YOUR XBOX and account in the same house.”

THOSE are the kinds of things that ARE problems.

So they want to make an all in one system? Cool, do it. But make it an all in one system. Not an all in one, unless you want backwards compatibility. Now we get to have 2 Kinects on our TV. One for the XBO and one for the 360. Gee, a great all in one machine they have made here! Saved me tons of space right?

      • tomo008866

I really doubt Microsoft are stupid enough to charge fees for used games. They said that they’re still refining all of their policies, and more will be revealed at E3.

Backwards compatibility is a problem. However, how is switching to PS4, like many claim to be doing in the comments section, solve that? PS3 didn’t even have backwards compatibility and neither did PS4. No. They’re complaining about Microsoft’s lack of focus on games at the 21st May event that they held to announce their console, when they explicitly said that they’d be doing the initial introduction at this event, and the games at E3. I really don’t understand all this whining and crying.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bush-O-Connor/555604190 Bush O Connor

so far without the xbox one having backwards compatability we would have nothing to lose by switching to ps4. unless gamerscore is important to the individual, i gave up on that a few years ago.

i bought a 360 thinking all my xbox games would work on it around half of them did and killer instinct was in the launch line up (OXM lied lol)

“I won’t buy the Super Nintendo because it doesn’t play my NES games!”

          • kingcrusher

Back then there wasn’t as much an investment as there is today. I look at what I’ve invested into my 360, and it’s almost embarrassing (but I love it). I would rather my stuff migrated to the next system (especially the arcade games) simply because my 360 has integrated itself into my routine so deeply with my games, arcade titles, watching movies, etc.
Will I throw a fit if they don’t? No, but I will pout a little. With the amount of money I have invested in my 360, I was hoping for a better bridging of the gap sort of speak with at least my arcade titles following me over.
But, with that said, it won’t stop me from getting the new system. Nor will the used game uncertainty.
All shall be …. revealed! lol, isn’t it a great time to be a gamer?

          • Does Not Equal

I was mostly mocking people who’ve come to expect BC in an era where even limited BC is a rarity.

The truth is that I’d love to be able to play my 360 games on the new system, but I was pretty sure that wasn’t happening. I was disappointed that I won’t be able to use my downloaded content on the new system, but again, I wasn’t really that surprised. Hell, I still have my original Xbox hooked up, since there are plenty of good games I can’t play with the 360’s limited BC (or whose save files I don’t care to start again from scratch).

    • Shaniqua1990

lol, I wonder if they refuse to buy phones that have mics and cameras built int

      • James Cox

Well, how many phones get hacked all of the time? Ever see celebs phones get hacked and nude pics posted online? That is without using Window’s notoriously secure OS. My phone is also not hung on the wall pointed at my family all day. I think people have a right to be fearful of an always on, Internet connected windows Camera being pointed at them in their home. Microsoft would not be forcing it to be connected for the system to work if something wasn’t in it for them. People, read the EULA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • James Cox

I think it is also arrogant to think that just because people have to have phones, that people have to have an Xbone. People get their media from everywhere these days. Do I need a redundant device between my cable box and Smart TV now? Xbox is not the only game on the block, and since nothing worth caring about carries over from Xbox 360…. The choice is easier. Kill the Kinect requirement and the smug attitude Microsoft, and I will think about a purchase.

  • Steve Of The O

Regardless of which console you chose for the next gen, and whether you moan about what aspects and features they will or will not have, I have to admit I’ve just this moment developed the buzz that arrives whenever new consoles are in the pipeline. Not as excited as I was around the N64’s release (that’s more a factor of age than anything else) But its definitely there and I can’t wait for what’s coming!

  • MrRadiolips

Seems like everyone on this thread is from the UK because everyone is pompous and arrogant.

    • Steve Of The O

What a complete generalisation. You just pigeon holed an entire country’s (or a constitutional monarchy and unitary state
consisting of four countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and
Wales.) people. I applaud your ignorance.

I see American English everywhere, and let me tell you, you’ll never EVER see a British person using American English. Therefore, the thread isn’t full of UK people. That was a STUPID generalisation in the first place. And such an irrelevant statement.

It’s a disk. If they wanted to do that, they should go full digital.

But no, they’re still selling physical goods. Imagine if you bought the new Dan Brown book and it was locked to your eyes only.

Oh did you just say the internet requirement was optional? Only for certain things?

And you just said that was fact?
The XBOX site says internet is REQUIRED for the CONSOLE.

    http:// news .xbox. com / 2013/ 05/ qa

And if you really think the used game market is the real problem with gaming, you are hopelessly ignorant.
The problem with gaming today is mis-management.

Tomb Raider was declared a failure even though it sold 3 mil in the first week. Because they spent too much on the game and expected COD money.

Dead Space was considered a failure for not selling 5 mil.

Yet Dark Souls was a success selling 2 million copies. Because it was managed well to the market they were selling to!

I can somewhat respect where you are coming from, but I don’t think you read my comment as carefully as you may have…..I never said an Internet connection was optional…I said it was required for certain features….do you not want any of your games to ever be patched….ever? Are you ever gonna stream anything on your Box? Any DLC?
Is there another way,is there some sort of magically infused alternative to the WWW, that I should know about?

As far as blaming Gamers, I never said that…..
I said recently released used software was bad for gaming…
      I believe I stated why….
My knowledge is based on experience….I have worked for nearly all the major third party after market game retailers in the States, I was also a member of Nintendo’s street team in the 90s….I have a some insight to the way retail game sales work. Gaming is one of my great passions,it just is.
I love games ,and that’s what it’s about…in the end consoles are just the means.
The discussions have taken on a life of their own, I for one welcome the debate….it’s refreshing. And it’s a lot more constructive….

As far as the game sales data you posted..the pointed has alluded me…I can’t help if some fat cat CEO thinks selling more than a million or more of anything is a failure..
Citing that article pertaining to Dark Souls doesn’t defend your point either……where was the marketing for that game other than the Internet? Which would have required a connection to read about…..or even know it existed.
I stopped reading Kotaku opinion pieces long ago

I’m out of here, only us are listening to each other, not even Shaniqua1990 is around here and it is the only real contact from MS, let’s see what happens after E3, in the end, I’ll buy the one that is better for me as a gamer and as someone who lives in Latin America and can’t afford reliable services and additional TV and music services and only wants to play.

I think the box art looks gorgeous. Microsoft clearly has a talented graphics design team working on their UI and an equally talented marketing team creating their box art. I really like the clean, sharp lines and minimalist design. Very well done!

    • Dylan

Agree. I like the boxart and the controller.

      Everything else…no way.

  • Luih

please microsoft reconsider your politics abaut xbox one (the box arts are really gorgeous ; ) but your new politicis are really anti-user friendly

Eh, I don’t want a machine that does everything. All my eggs in one basket makes me nervous.

I wish the console will look as good as the game case

  • sebastianboehm

The Design of the Game Cases is irrelevant, because the Games are a one way ticket. You buy them, you play them, but you cannot give them to a friend. On the XBOX ONE, a Game Package is like a Download on Disk. You can play it, but you cannot sell it to someone else. So no need to collect them anymore i think an thus the design is quite irrelevant!

    • TheDahaka

It wouldn’t be so bad if they followed the steam/itunes model and offered content cheap and allowed us to play offline once registered. Those two things would change the whole ballgame for me.

Im fine with the plethora of new features, I’m fine with no backwards compatibility. Im fine with exclusive titles-even if only in the short term-as 3rd parties satisfy the majority of my gaming needs anyway.

Im not comfortable being constantly watched by Kinect with no option to disable it.

Im not fine with needing to be connected at least once every 24 hours to play games. Im not fine with every gaming purchase i make to essentially become a long term rental without a dramatic price drop.

I’m not fine with the fact that one day in the future when my game licences expire or the following xbox comes out and support for One is finally dropped, that every cent i would have spent on xbox one will one day come to nothing.

Im not fine with having the resell value of the console and its games being compromised. The loser here isn’t Gamestop, it isn’t pirates, the real loser here is us the honest customer.

Microsoft has alot of questions to answer if they want this one time loyal xbox customer to buy an xbox one.

    • http://videogamersblog.com/ Bryan Stilbon Conrad

Just what I was thinking. I wounder how many others are feeling the same as us. My question to MS is how are they going to keep one time loyal Xbox gamers from moving to PS4 or PC?

    • CyberneticHFX

Of course, Kinect must be able to be disabled at will. Privacy is ultra important. I can do, and can look like, at my place how I please, without any conflict in my mind that my activity, and appearance transmitted may violate Xbox LIVE terms of use, destroy my privacy, and surprises my Xbox LIVE Friends, and freaks out other Xbox LIVE users. If impossible – I will attempt to hack Xbox One straight up. On failure, I could only play Dead Space Kinect with it.

    • ギャビン

Preach brother, we don’t need the kinect on 24/7 at all if we don’t want to use it.

    • Tyvan Johnston

Your game isn’t going to expire, nothings been confirmed about used games and you can turn your Kinect to face the wall if you don’t want it to see you.

  • Tomo

I love the new game cases. If only everything else about the Xbox One was this perfect…

  • http://videogamersblog.com/ Bryan Stilbon Conrad

Nice clean box, but at what price are these games going to retail for?

    • CyberneticHFX

I recommend to sell them by standard, and initially on their releases, cheaper than how the video game media for home video gaming systems is sold by today. Perhaps a percentage of previous Xbox and Xbox LIVE users, will accept the whole new Xbox and Xbox LIVE ascension, with its specific dubious restrictions and limitations that the masters are about to throw at their future customers, with more ease.

  • http://videogamersblog.com/ Bryan Stilbon Conrad

Nice Box indeed – too bad I most likely will not ever carry it home. I love Forza, spent hours to design my car alone, but…
YOU MS don´t have to show any games until the rest is cleared! You don´t think that even Forza 5 + 6 released together is covering up the fact about the used games, the forced kinect and the forced internet connection?
Drop all these Gamerhating facts and I will gladly look at any games and their packages you have to offer. Do it not and you can keep them for yourself.

  • Robert Distefano

Can Xbox One gamers lend their games to their family members and friends?
Why hasn’t anyone at Microsoft made a statement about this?
