Show here with Forza Motorsport 5
Xbox One By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson
I dont worry what the case looks like, but looking forward to Forza 5 though
Are those the same dimensions with the 360’s cases, Larry? They look classy, thanks for the pictures.
It looks to me that that is a standard sized DVD case? If these games are really the BD format they should have the same sized cases as BD disks. Not only that but I have yet to even see a cheap eco friendly case for any bluray or any PS3 game yet.
Not a big deal but I’ll be disappointed if these are DVD sized cases, it should match my massive bluray collection, simple as that.
Why did we end up with these DVD sized cases anyway? There was nothing wrong with the old PSone game case size, just the plastic needed improving.
I get wanting to make them more visible on store shelves but it seems rather moot today with so many people buying online.
Yes because that is the major issue we all want resolving, what the game cases will look like.
What is the point of selling discs for x1????? Buying a disc game for x1 is the same as buying on games on demand!!
Microsoft gone digital distribution only but lack the guts to adimit it!!!!!1
cause I can install from disk faster than I can download from the internet
so what??? You have to go shopping or wait until the mail arrives with your order!!!!!
It will overtime also be cheaper to by hardcopy then digital just like it is now.
There is no point. The only point is to earn more money from people with poor connections. They dont have to download.
Because some of us can’t download gigantic games, either because of speed not being up to par for reasonable download times, or because of bandwidth caps.
With the sizes games will likely get up to next gen, I know I’d be downright unable to buy a system that was digital only.
Case looks good and so does Forza
Hey Major, why would I support XBone?
Why would you support a system that robs Child foundations like “Childs Play”?
Why would you support a system that discriminates our Military who just want some relaxing time, but there’s no internet?
Why would you support a system that has anti-independent policies that benefit the already rich Publishers? Which will also sorely affect your library of unique games.
Why would you support a system that spies on you with a camera and can never be turned off?
Why would you support a system that basically does this comparison, if you buy a book and were never able to share it?
99% of what you said is all based on rumor and things not specifically laid out by Microsoft especially the used games issue. If you want to have nerd rage then at least wait until you have all the facts
Microsoft VP Phil Harrison and others have said this.
You saying I shouldn’t trust what Microsoft said themselves?
But the head of Microsoft UK said the complete opposite… it isn’t fact
The xbox will require internet. FACT. FACT. FACT.
Nelson even said that yesterday.
Supporting this console is un-patriotic. So many soldiers from our Military play Xbox. There is no internet there.
Everything they’re doing is anti-consumer. They don’t deserve to be defended.
Kinect 2.0 is REQUIRED to turn on the xbox. FACT FACT FACT
Cannot be turned off.
Microsoft has announced that Independent companies will have to partner with Microsoft or Publishers to get their games on XBox. FACT FACT FACT
Now developers like Marcus Persson (maker of Minecraft) and Tim Schafer are announcing their displeasure over twitter.
Tell me exactly how 99% of what I said is rumor?
It will require a connection but the effective time for single player games, and blu-ray are in question. I don’t know if those are affected by the 24 hour time period but at the moment it is leaning that way
Second, I’m sure those active in the military can find other things to do with their free time, like play their PS4. It is not unpatriotic to create a device that requires an internet connection, that is just being stupid.
So Kinect is standard that has nothing to do with your previous statement… also the indie companies have to do that now to be on XBLA so, what is your point.
99% is based on hearsay specifically once again aimed at your belief on the used game issue. Just because one person (even a VP, or Hyrb) says something doesn’t mean that is company policy. They are human and can be wrong. We will know for certain in 2 weeks at E3
Supporting a console
that takes away from the user’s rights
disregards its huge military fanbase
robs children involved in charities in hospitals
And disregarding that most of the country let alone the world that doesn’t have stable/uncapped internet
And keeping policies that hamper down independent companies
and having a representative saying
“why would I want to live in a rural area”
is yes in fact, unpatriotic.
Little did we know that Microsoft’s mentality agrees with Adam Orth.
You seem obsessed with the “games console is unpatriotic” rubbish. it’s a games console. It has no allegiances.
“supporting the console”…not “the console”
semantics… at the end it’s the same statement.
No its a TV/APP box. Besides that, its restrictive PC.
Do you work for Microsoft, or just love anti-consumer “PC-like” systems?
Our games on Xbox 360 beside the games you download, doesnt have DRM, meaning that the system will last forever. Try launching up a Xbox One in 20 years when Microsoft shuts down the server support. Its a brick. Its a rental. Its anti-consumer.
I understand the point you’re making but you kind of went to far with the “20 years”.
agreed I don’t there a console cycle has ever went to 10 years even.
To be fair this will be a problem with Xbox 360 too as so many games hit retail with major bugs that will have been patched. If your console doesn’t have that patch saved, you can only the play the original buggy version.
Then there is DLC.
Plus in 20 years time odds are your Xbox 360s HDD and internal memory will have stopped working.
Dylan “Supporting this console is un-patriotic” ,”Why would you support a system that robs Child foundations like “Childs Play”?” ,ahaha you’re my number one idiot on this site.LEAVE and yeah ….never comeback
Think for 2 seconds about someone other than yourself.
The leader of Childs play is furious at this new Xbox.
Yes because the children will die if they can’t play an X1.
That is one of the worst, selfish, ignorant comments I’ve seen on here.
If you only knew what those kids go through. You in your fancy house, sipping your Starbucks and constant fast internet, would have no idea.
LOL that is a lot of assumptions… once again they will be quite okay without an X1… there is always PS4, Steam box, or a WiiU. Stop being a drama queen.
Your comment was pretty heartless dont you think?
no.You THINK before You post things like that.kid
Maybe what the head of Microsoft UK said isn’t fact. I would think what Phil Harrison says carries more weight.
I would agree but my point is that there seems not to be a cohesive understanding of what exactly is the policy… what it will and will not do.
Haha, the UK? The HEADS of Microsoft AMERICA has said otherwise. You know, the people making the console.
They are all the same company.
Its still hardly 99% theoretical. They already said it DOES need the Internet to activate each new game and it DOES keep Kinect turned on all the time. That is 2/5 things definitively confirmed as fact.
I’m also pretty sure the intention was for the DRM to work exactly as described, but they added the “more details to be announced later” so they could wait and see how we reacted and then “tweak” it before launch. How much they will tweak it is still up in the air and the more we complain, the more likely it will be in our favour.
Are you kidding me? Its confirmed.
Major also said it would work like when you buy a game online(arcade or games on demand) in the 360.
i.e. as a rental.
Most people have the internet. Time to get with the times
My thing is if you don’t like it then stop complaining about it, it isn’t like X1 is the only option out there. I have no problem with the connection issue. I don’t like the no loaner thing but that will depend on how much I will have to pay. Will it be full retail or like EA’s $10 charge? Also, I like that this will most likely drive down Gamestop prices while the exchange rate might not be affected because they will still need games.
I’m complaining because I’ve been a loyal customer since the Original Xbox.
What they’re doing is just plain wrong and immoral.
It is all in the name of egregious corporate greed.
They can’t get away with this. They’re so out of touch with their customers, they need to hear us.
Or they’ll fail.
You’re woefully ignorant.
Not even sure this is worth a response.
1/3 of Xbox 360’s have never connected to the internet.
Not even the US has stable internet infrastructure.
Most of the world can’t handle this kind of thing.
This is not some feature. This is to make sure we’re not stealing. And it’s wrong in every way.
Think outside your little box Adam Orth.
20 million? Try 40 million. And i think most of the world (at least the places that Xbox one will sell in) Have internet that can at least last for an hour. Enough to keep the Xbox on for a day. I think people are over exaggerating when it comes to internet reliability. I refuse to believe the majority of internet users lose there connection daily. If it does. Then you don’t even have an internet connection. Unless you can show me otherwise. You cant blame me for assuming this. I live in the highlands of Scotland. And my internet never disconnects.
Didn’t they say that they are using the cloud for processing power anyway? I would say that is a feature. I believe consoles that can stay always off line are a dying breed. The internet will get bigger and bigger. And will always improve. And it is good that a console is taking advantage of this.
/Microsoft corporate shill.
I kinda wished the Xbox One thing was on the left side and is the box a different shade of green than the 360’s and Xbox OG’s case?
The cause why I’m here is Tom
This must be the dumbest thing ever. This is a PC. A PC you cant upgrade.
Mandatory installations – PC
Online requirement – PC
Steam based DRM – PC
Apps – PC
TV – PC
Voice control – PC
Useless game discs after installation – PC
But PC has:
– No 24 hour check.
– Working 100% offline if we dont want to be connected.
– Doesnt check for piracy every 24 hour.
– Doesnt require mandatory Kinect.
– Has CHEAP games. STEAM.
– Can be upgraded.
Also. No used game marked – PC
PC has a used game market. I don’t know why people keep saying that it doesn’t
But yes, it is smaller than consoles, mainly because you can pick up old games digitally for next to nothing. Which is the way it should be.
They have said for two days now that you can play used games. Are you stupid or just ignorant?
The system will be upgrade through the use of cloud computing… over time it will get stronger.
You expect shipments of RAM and a new processing chip from the cloud in 3 years?
Do you not understand cloud computing? Go do some homework… it isn’t just about the resident hardware… think skynet.
You are correct, it will help in some processing, will edit my post.
Steam does check in once in a while, every 3 weeks or so. Yes there is offline mode but try playing after that time, it will refuse to run.
Of course 3 weeks is far better than 24 hours.
Its far better. I can travel with my Steam and PC. Cant do that with the Xbox to places without online.
There is a major difference because Steam is a software platform that is built upon existing technology made by another company. The X1 is a console which it’s hardware and software are built by one and the same. My point in this is that Steam has to be able to allow you to do this because of the nature of the hardware they are dealing with… now what the steam box will do is a different question.
What’s the difference? XBOX One is a gaming console so it has to be always-connected? No offence, but the logic is a little bit wild here.
I know it’s shaky… basically steam was designed to be mobile because PC is now majority mobile (laptops, ultrabooks, etc). The X1 doesn’t because it is designed not to be portable but to be in your living room. They will be equal when the steam box releases and we will see what Valve does.
Recently i have switched my steam account to offline mode, to see if that is true? Also have my doubts about it.
My GoG games don’t check in at all.
case looks nice, great design.
i hope we see more of forza 5 at e3.
Case looks perfectly fine. I was going to say *cue people bitching*, but that already happened.
Major, is it true that you have to be connected to the internet for party chat? What the hell! DO NOT BUY. WII U WILL WIN. That is just plain consumer unfriendly. *sarcasm*
I can’t lol any harder when I read “Wii U looks better”. I lol a good amount at people and their “PS4 is looking the best”. No, PS4 looks like Xbox 360 feature wise and has a Kinect to go with it. Xbox 360 is excellent but once again Sony is starting behind.
fyi, you have to be connected to the internet on the current xbox to access party chat…
T Poop’s comment = sarcasm
Try to find the humor in being forced to login regularly for no reason whatsoever, other than have MS police your system. And while youre at it, ask yourself what you gain from having to jump trough these hoops? If you dont have internet, or it gets cut for a large period of time, or if the live servers are down for a large period of time, and you want to play a single player game, but cant for this stupid reason, then what do you do?
I bet that then your stupid smirk gets wiped from your face pretty quick. Still feeling sarcastic?
No need to defend this system just because you are MS fanboys. If you love Microsoft, its your job to call them out on their own bullshit. This is a very, very anti-consumer system, way more anti-consumer than PC and Steam.
The problem is that there is still vagueness to all of this and that includes what Sony is going to do on some of the issues. Once everything is laid out and not badly worded or twisted statements then we all will be in better position to judge the system.
Are you retarded? Do you work for Microsoft? Remember that ALL THE MONEY you spend on this system will go to waste the day Microsoft shut down the servers. It will happen eventully.
Have you ever been around for any console launch? My NES games didn’t work on the Super Nintendo and those Super Nintendo games didn’t work on the Game Qube. Now Game Cube games were supported by Wii and PS1 games on the PS2 but when the PS3 came around they ended up removing backwards compatibility. So, the PS4 and X1 will not be backwards compatible but they will continue to support their older consoles for a little while. Yes I spent a good amount of money but I also understand how systems work in regards to their CMOS design so, I get why backwards isn’t there.
He’s talking about when XBONE servers get shut down the next next generation.
How can you play your games after that?
What is the difference between that and a regular cycle like Xbox to Xbox 360? Also PC has the same issue as noted above. I can only find 100 servers for BF1942 when there use to be thousands. Some games you can’t play online anymore because no one has servers for those games.
I think his point was that since your game needs to be checked online to even play. Not multiplayer. Any game.
So what happens when the console life is over and there arent servers to check your game?
And mightywombat you might be right of course. But going by previous history, The original Xbox’s live connection isn’t up anymore. And I would expect the 360’s servers to go down in a few years
Just like any console generation, the old generation will be support to some degree into the new cycle. If they can have multiplayer matches for you then it still should ping your console to maintain the 24 hour license… btw to put a fly in the ointment, they (Live) will be able to ban you quicker and easier, they simply will not ping that IP address.
But bf1942 is a 12 year old game, that still has servers up. Ahaaaaaaaa. Youre trying to hard to prove your point, but use bad examples. The thing is, with pc games, as long as the game is online enabled, you can still play it online, if you wish to.
What if… *gasp*… the next generation will use the same Live servers to verify games? Then it’s like the games will still be able to be played. Of course some multiplayer servers will be down, but that would happen regardless. Also, next generation is probably going to be 10 years down the line, so not really a worry right now.
But what if they dont? You trust them? And 20 years from now? If MS feels they dont want to pay anymore for the authentification servers, then your screwed.
Ask yourself: why do we have to go trough all this? What do you gain from that? Dont be a pushover, wise up. You have nothing to gain from having to login regularly. Its only for the benefit of MS, so that they can police your system. What if the servers go down 2-3 days for whatever reason? What if your internet provider goes bust or you change to another, and youre left withou net for weeks? Why cant you play single player games during that period?
A little correction here the first ps3 fat that launched on day one had backwards compatibility because of a chip, and the software. They redesigned the console to make the PS3 cheaper, and removed the chip the software, the card reader and 1 or 2 usb ports..
that is what I said… they ended up removing backwards compatibility.
This has nothing to do with backwards compatibility. It has to do with a virtual collection of games that go black once the servers shutdown. It’s wasted money on rentals. You aren’t buying jack.
Now you didn’t talk about backwards compatibility, but the issue your PC loving brain was addressing was the ability to continue playing games you buy because you can upgrade hardware in a PC (correct?). Then answer me this… why can’t I play Wing Commander 1 on my Windows 8 machine. Why did I have to get rid of a bunch of Windows XP games because they wouldn’t run on Windows 7? PC has the same issue just over a longer period of time.
Basically yes, it’s true… but it being like that so far doesn’t meant things couldn’t improve.
Isn’t X1 going to have 8 little brains inside ? why not including one to manage old software ? I know it’s not that easy but with work and investment I’m sure it can be done.
Money investment… something vital to come up with stuff that doesn’t feel half-assed as consoles that burn themselves up for the solely reason of using them.
lol, everyone is retarded if they don’t have the inbred brain you have
Problems with the system, but also problems with Microsoft’s communication.
What do you gain by telling people what to do? You have the right to dislike the console and anything else Microsoft does but don’t freaking tell me or anyone how to approach this.. I was going to be more polite until you started calling people names.. If you don’t like it, move on.
Yeah, because steam allows you to trade your used games…oh wait
Oh, because I can play used pc games online right ? oh wait
Oh, because I can loan my pc games ! oh nevermind
game sale on xbox $40
same game sale on steam $15
I HATE IT!!! AHHH NO REASON FOR ALL OF THIS STUPID NERD RAGE!! /stupidstrangefreakoutfrompeoplewhohavenoreasontofreakout
It doesnt matter how hard you fanboys trying to defend this system. This system has NOTHING to offer that you cant do with a PC. They just added the same restrictions. They added the stuff made made it worth buying a console over a pc.
Then go play that and leave. Vote with your pocket book and be silent.
There are times, when the silence can be quite deafening. Lets see, 5 years from now, when the console has sold 1/3 of the PS4, what do you think Microsoft will say and think?
But yeah, nobody is holding a gun to our head, and i personally will vote with my wallet and not buy it. Its just that i feel shame that Microsoft is driving so many old costumers away, when it could have made an effort to keep them. We complain, because we care(d).
Oh well, once i get a Ps4 ill forget about the xbox anyway…
Are you really naive enough to believe that Sony won’t follow suit at least to some degree for used games? Big publishers aren’t going to just go “Xbox is making us more money because of the used game policy, let’s continue seeing less profit from PS4 games.”
On top of that, Xbox will probably see more success to start off anyways due to the momentum that they have now, at least in North America.
Sony said that used games would be playable on the system, which, truth be told, can be vague. Come e3, they might also add “…but for fee”. Guess well then. At least, i hope they dont force us to go online regularly.
And yeah, the xbox is big in the US, But everywhere else it sells less than the ps3. And judging from the very US Centric presentation tuesday, i dont think it will sell any better outside the american market. All its media features are tailored for the american market, and they wont be available anywhere else (already now, only a fraction of the media apps are available outside the US marketplace, so wont hold my breath for it to change)
Who knows. I hope sony doesnt follow suit and say “yeah, you can play used games… But also for a fee”. If they dont, theyll waltz all over M$
And yeah, the xbox is big in the US market, but everywhere else it sells less than the playstation brand. And from the very american-focused presentation tuesday, i think a lot of people outside are even more turned off by the XO (the media features will most likely not be available outside the US, so much of the interest in the machine goes away)
The e3 will shed more light, i hope
yeah, just a PC with more annoying stuff: kinect, always online, no used games.
1. No one is making you use Kinect, which actually sounds like it’s been greatly improved.
2. Always Online = Rumor
3. No used games = Rumor
4. Still more convenient than a PC
6. Will probably be much cheaper than a PC of equivalent power.
7. Cloud computing = virtually limitless potential without having to pay for hardware upgrades.
-Always online has been debunked. At most you might need to be connected at least once every 24 hours.
-There will be used games. MS already said they will let peopel sell/trade digital games. It’s the selling to gamestop whose conditions are up in the air.
So what. End result is the same. You need a internet connection in your home. If you’re only into single player games, and you don’t have net, then what? If you go on vacation? If you change internet provider, and your offline for 2-3 weeks? What if, 10 years from now, the ONE servers get shut down? The question i ask you: what do we consumers gain from being forced to login regularly? Why do you accept such arbitrary decision so lightly. Dont be a pushover to big corporations, wise up
And yes, there will be used games, but you have to pay a fee to use them on your console. So no, in the end effect, there are no used games, because the fee will be of the same amount as a new game bought online from the store. How is that allowing used games, if by playing a used game you mean lending your game to a friend and he playing it on his system?
Its not as clearcut and harmless as youre trying to make it sound, imo
-Always online/everyday online is pretty much the same thing to me
-There will be used games. but you will have to pay to ‘activate’ them. which may be the same price as buying new.
Its not always, but regular and mandatory. if you fail to connect within 24h, the system wont allow you to play your games, not even the single player ones. No internet, no luck then. And why is that? What do we gain from having to go trough this hassle? Nothing. And what bappnes 10 years from, when the servers of the X1 get shut down? Dont be a pushover to big companies, you gain nothing from having to go trough this
There will be used games… For a fee. Theyve been coy about the system they want to put in place, but the simpe fact they are putting a system in place means that used games will be restricted. What i want is a system that allows me to lend a friend a game, he can play if free on his console for a few days, and then return it, NO fees involved.
What i want is to be able to take my game license and sell/pass it on to somebody. If they dont allow it, they should do what steam does, and have regular and generous sales,a nd not only to gold subscribers
We’ll know all the details at e3, of both sony and ms
1. Kinect is mandatory, even if you dont use it. You cant unplug it, or the system wont work. And you have a bigbrother pointed at you 24/7. And the whole device is for me useless, dont care about it.
2. Always online has been confirmed, in a sense that you need to at least login every 24h (its not always, but regular). Confirmed
3. No used games are allowed, for a fee. Confirmed.
4. About the convenince, it depends on what you want from it. You want to mod the games, or you want simulations or strategy games that require lots of keys, not so convenient then, is it? Again, depends on what games your into. If youre all too happy for brodude stuff à la COD, i guess its enough
5. Exclusives? Depends if you like halo or forza. And the pc also has exclusives games. Depends if you like, lets say ARMA or Planetside 2
6. But you can do much more with a pc of equivalent power. Again, its up to what you need. If you just need something dumbed down and ready to go
7. Hold your horses. It wont feature full cloud gaming, only a few light services. this isnt a cloudgaming console, or lse, you wouldnt need the big cpu and graphics card… right? plus, Cloud computing is also available on a pc, with services like Onlive. Plus, if you want to go that way, you dont even need a Xbox One to access cloud games, any old pc will do (remember, all the processing power would be done online)
Really though, I’ll game on BOTH PC and 360, and now the One. If PC is so great, stick with steam. I like to game on my couch sometimes and most PC games are awful for that.
I guess my point is sure, PC gaming can be seen as superior, go enjoy it instead of acting all butt hurt about speculation.
Thats not what i said, i said quite the contrary
I said that it depends on what games you want to play. If youre into sports games, casual games, action, rpgs, indie games, light fps like COD, then a console is the best option. Its more confortable to play them from your couch
But if youre into, lets say, simulation games, management, RTS, strategy, fps (i hate a pad for that), mmorpg’s and games that require more keys, or you like to mod a game with community content, then youre out of luck on a console (ARMA, Planetside, starcraft, flight simulator,… Theyre really not viable on a console, imo)
To say the console is the best of all worlds is kinda looking at the world from your eyes. There are other tastes and needs
The only person acting butthurt here is you. Xbox fanboys like you are the ones getting a beating all over the place. If your take your head out of your own butt, youll see that youre the one in minority
I didn’t say any of that, wow. I’m an avid PC gamer. I play both and simply recommended skipping the Xbone if you are that upset about speculation.
1. It comes with the system, so what’s the issue?
2. The 24 hour check is so far only a potential scenario, or in other words a rumor.
3. They said they are still working on the used game policies
4. By convenient I mean popping the game in and playing it, other stuff is irrelevant.
5. Never said PC didn’t have exclusives did I.
6. I already have a PC that does plenty, I’m fine buying the cheaper console to do what I expect of it.
7. Listen to the podcast, they explain how the cloud works in conjunction with the hardware.
1. The problem i have is that you have a big brother, watching a recording what you do, 24/7. But of course, m$ would never spy on us… Or would they?
2. Youre wrong, check your facts. The 24h check has been confirmed by phil harrison after the One reveal, after a journalist asked him directly, and he said that the console would have to at least login every 24h. If its mandatory , then its not a stretch to think that games get blocked if you fail to login
3. But the simple fact theyre working on a system means that theyre will try to control the market. If the system allowed you to play used games unrestricted, why would a system have to be put in place, huh? They also said that tou could play a game at a friends house, as long as youre signed into your account, which, using logic, means that you wont be able to play it if youre not signed in, no?
4. Yeah, though the bluray drive might be slow for that. Dunno
5. No, but i pounted out that the pc also had them. It all comes down to the games you like to play more. If one is more into starcraft or ARMA,no much need for the XO
6. Again, same as point 5. If youre not into demanding pc titles, you dont need a gaming pc. Heck, you might not even need a pc, and a tablet or iphone is enough
7. Itll be used, but not to the point of full games streaming. Dont think the bandwidth is available yet, not even in 5 years time. And in terms of cloud, i put my money on gaikai, every day of the week, twice on sunday. Time will tell
1. You’re being paranoid. The way I see it’s no more likely to get broken than the console itself, worst case scenario they probably have a warranty program.
2. I know about the interview he said he “believes” it will be 24 hours, showing that he was unsure himself, probably they are probably because they are still working on the details.
3. Again potential scenario, they also said they want people to be able to play the same game on the same console with different accounts.
4. We’ll wait till someone gets their hands on one.
5. I was pointing out a reason that people may want an Xbox One over a PC is the exclusives, I wasn’t debating which is better.
7. I didn’t say it would stream full games I said it would work in conjunction with the native hardware, which could give games a boost in performance and improve the console’s lifespan.
I already have a PC of equivalent power. Cost me $500. nearly 2 years ago.
Why are you on Majornelson’s site if you don’t like the system? Oh, I remember, it’s because you like to complain like an immature kid.
… Very mature reply. We are here, because were xbox owners who would like to know more about the new system, and the more we know, we dont like what we hear. So we voice our opinion so that at least the major knows how a large part of the community feels. Is that good of an explanation for you, son?
Console over pc? I love pc gaming but theres a reason people come back
to consoles. That reason is ease of use. People love to play on a
console because a few reasons… Console players love knowing that the
game we just bought is gonna run smoothly and at the best it can and as
good as everyone elses on the console, without worry about updating
drivers/hardware, consoles are also not dragged down a huge OS. Another
huge reason is in mp online Why? because everyone has the SAME
advanatages, in the pc crowd everyone has games runnign at diffrent FPS
and or other things that give them advantages or disadvantages.
Console players KNOW pc is the best place for the up to date graphics,
but thats not WHY anyone should play games. Also most console players
know a mouse weilds much more precise controls but still prefer the ease
of use of a controller. Its not just 1 thing that keep people wanting
consoles its a multiple of things.
Everytime a new
console releases we see these arguments about pc being better. Sure a
consoles graphics and processor will only be up there with the best pcs
for around 3 months but it doesnt matter, it all comes down to ease of
use. A true pc gamer needs to upgrade a 200$ gpu around every 6 months to
stay “up to date”. Buy a console and its designed to handle games for
the next 5 years. Im not defending any certain system im just stating
the facts about consoles in general.
It think it comes more down to the kind of games you like to play. If youre a RTS/MMO/FPS/Strategy/Simulation player, the pc is the better platform. And about the driver issues and such, never had a problem for years now. The OS autoupdates, and even the grahics cards checks online for updates and installs them (even steam can do that for you, as long as youre card is from ATI).
About the ease of use, it can be a blessing, and a curse. You cant play more advanced games, that require more than a couple of keys. You cant mod your games. And then you have fps, which i hate to play on a pad. Oh, and the pad can also be connected to the pc, even the wireless ones.
Feel your oversimplifying things a little, from your needs and likes
the case is still green, any other new stuff?
Yeah no manual.
That’s a lot of games these days.
I like it. Very simple and clean. Glad to see Top Gear is still in the Forza franchise too.
Its nice.. But that 80 dollar price tag is a big joy kill.. These games will have an upward of 80 dollars retail sale. Not sure how much DLC price will jump.
er…wait..what..,games are costing $80 now?
in Australia new consoles games go from around $80 to $130
Where did you see that insane price? No way. Heck, with used games blocked and piracy defeated with mandatory logins, one would expect the price to come down, not up
HAHA If there are no used games then they don’t have to compete with those prices and can charge whatever they want. Go down?? HAHAHAHAHA
Thats my fear too
profit maximization, yes, the price would go down.
economics 101, not that a 2 year old whiny brat like you would understand.
Every single expert in the field is saying prices are going up. But, oh well, “Shaniqua1990″ took economics in high school so I guess they’re all wrong.
How much was SimCity on the PC again?
Thats what im also afraid. Again, its up to the consumer to vote with their wallet
Since when did waht people expect and what MS did actually become the same thing?
Maybe he lives in AUSTRALIA? Games are $80 retail in AUS.
Lol where’d you hear the $80 price tag from?
x360 games are around 50/60,- Euros here in the Netherlands the blu-ray for PS3 are around 70/80,- Euro, so for the Xbox One whe can expect the same price range as the PS3 blu-ray
I take it that its Blu Ray sized as well(with that extra bit at the top like BR case)
Hey Major… I LOVE IT!!!
forza my favorite franchise and I dont care because I will never buy it…unless I have the option to buy it used go F yourself
You love the franchise so much that you won’t give the developers money to make the franchise continue? How kind of you.
nope not when they work in tandem with this ridiculous excuse for a gaming console. I would gladly pay 60 some dollars but not under these conditions not anymore
yet you’ve never bought a new copy or paid 60 dollars
It’s spelled “Hippocrates.”
How would you know, Microsoft does let Shaniqua1990 sleep, its 8 AM CDT and it’s been 8 hours since its last post. Shaniqua1990 is the proof that slavery is alive and well.
uhm, yes I have
when did I say I never bought a new copy? I have a plethora of day 1 games I purchased. how am I a hypocrite? SHANIQUA lol
Kinda hate that the franchise has been annualized and milked with DLC’s
Congratulations. This is the first thing about the Xbox One that isn’t completely embarrassing.
Yeah. Looks hot!!!
I honestly can’t believe anyone has defended anything MS has done about this fiasco, I under estimated the fanboy population on xbox I guess. these cases look nice but the last thing I care about is how cool the cases look.
Yep, only thing imo thats is good is the controller, ps4 controller looks like a massive upgrade from dual shock 3 also, one of the main reasons i never got ps3 was the controller sucked
Classy, now if only the cover depicted something more ORIGINAL!
Like what? It’s Forza.
EXACTLY… if only the cover depicted AN ORIGINAL GAME I mean. Number 5 (6 really) in the Forza series is not original.
What do you want to see on the cover of a racing game? A poodle?
He was expecting the dog from Call of Duty to be surfing on top of it.
Sorry, but I can’t get excited for a single thing concerning the Xbox One until SIMPLE questions like the used games policy are answered CLEARLY and truthfully. Once Microsoft and the Xbox team stops trying to confuse gamers and stops the completely disrespectful attitude they’ve got going on I’m done even considering buying another Microsoft product. It makes me sick to even have to say that, but it’s entirely Microsoft’s fault for what direction they’ve chosen to go.
They are still finalizing how they are handling used games. It’s tough to answer a question they don’t even 100% know the answer to.
Give me a break. They’ve had years to come up with these answers. The tech to handle this has to be built into the console so they obviously know what they’re doing by now. They just don’t want to piss people off any further.
Because you know all about the procedures that go into developing a console and making up policies right. People seem to be having way too much fun dogging Microsoft, Sony has not responded to any questions regarding these issues, but they are supposedly saints.
You actually believe they don’t know that when they are this close to launch after several years of working on the console and vision. Why do you think EA dropped their online pass program? This stuff is set in stone, and Microsoft let the truth out, saw the huge backlash, and now are going to try and confuse and drag out the clock until either Sony announces the same type of system and takes some heat themselves, or the console launch itself.
Just be honest and clear is all I’m asking, but they know what they are doing is not going to be plainly accepted and are trying to talk circles around it until people don’t care anymore, which just isn’t going to happen when it comes to something like this.
When exactly did they “let the truth out”? And you don’t think developers put pressure on Microsoft to change how used games are handled and that it was just Microsoft trying to make money from their own games?
They aren’t even the ones confusing people. People have been so quick to report on rumors as fact without any real proof. They are obviously trying to be careful and waiting for Sony to announce their bound to be similar approach, but people are trying to push them to an answer. Right off the bat, MS should have said “We don’t comment on rumors and speculation” and put an end to it. But the idea that they are still finalizing publishing deals really doesn’t seem that crazy. We are still six months out from launch and games don’t go gold until a month before release, so that is plenty of time to finalize and adjust to backlash.
you haven’t read much have you. MS people let it slip in post reveal interviews that the plan is used game install fee would essentially be the MSRP.
My bad then, I tried looking up an original source for the news of the fee, but there was not an actual quote after looking at like five articles of the same report, so I just dismissed it. But the idea of that model not being final still isn’t that farfetched.
If you want a link to Phil Harrison talking about paying full price for a used game, here it is (remove the spaces)

LOL @ kids learning about capitalism.
If fees and pricing structures anger you, perhaps you should save your money for more important things. Gaming isn’t cheap, nor should it be. Multi-million dollar blockbusters require multi-million dollar profits. We get what we pay for. Enjoy playing Pong.
I’ll just keep playing the Xbox 360, an actual good gaming console unlike this scam they’re trying to doublespeak people into buying. They won’t even talk about it at this point, that’s how embarrassed they are and should be.
I can’t think of any consumer product you cannot resell on your own. cars? yep. books? yep. movies? yep. CDs? yep. Guns? I guess there is one, today I learned video games are considered fire arms.
dont know about you but gaming IS a cheap hobby. money for hours entertained it cannot be beat, for the price of 2 or 3 dvds you can get a full game with 100+ hours. hell it costs me more to go fishing for 2 hours than it does to buy a game.
Looks pretty good actually
The box looks so boring and dull. Looks like you’re trying to save on paper also by shortening the allotted space for art.
It’s a blu-ray case, which are shorter than DVD cases.
The Xbox 360 banner takes up a similar proportion on current cases…
I know, I’m tired of that. I already know what system its for on the side, I don’t need it on the top portion of the game case also. it looks very boring compared to the 360 design.
I remember owning the original Xbox with Halo of course. So I’ve been there since the beginning, but it sure is hard to find a big positive right now for the Xbox One, for me personally. I mean I like the controller, the box looks ok & also… uhm… (sigh)
They better bring it at E3 or else I’m simply not buying it day 1, or not at all.
looks like budget games from the side angle. So, will the price be 30€ for a new game then as we just buy a license and not a real game anymore?
I am more interested to know if Forza 5 will work with my Fanatec Forza wheel, seeing as it seems Xbox One doesn’t support Xbox 360 controllers so you would have to support it over USB instead.
Is this the exact final shade of green that will be used? This looks like #39B4CC, while the Battlefield 4 box art that was released seems to use a dark shade, #107C10. Can you confirm, Major, what the right color is? Personally I think the slightly darker one looks much better than this.
Fair point as part of the spine on the xbox 360 covers normally sports a design. I’d imagine this is just a draft and still subject to change.
Looks bloody nice, and the box art for Forza 5 looks insane!
You are trying hard in doing things worst than with the xbox 360, and you managed to do it even in game box art.
Oh, you should have come with a new Project Gotham Racing made by Bizarre, we are a little over-saturated of Forzas at this time.
i felt they messed up on the last PGR. the cone challenge from PGR2 is still one of my most favourite things in any driving game.
bring back rally sport challenge too.
I think Bizarre is out of business now. Which also means no new Geometry Wars
Too bad physical game discs on the Xbox One aren’t worth the material they’re printed on. Each comes with a one-time use installation activation meaning the disc becomes useless to other users, including the owner once MS’s Xbox One servers eventually go down.
Looks like someone created this in under 2 minutes in powerpoint. Pretty slick though.
Not that the design of a box will make me buy this colossal screw up.
Nice to see TopGear are partnered with Turn 10 again. Hope we can port over our designs given 360 titles wont be playable on the Xbox one. Don’t fancy redoing them all again. Already did that between 1 & 2 as there was no porting option.
that’s cool…doesn’t change the fact that 10 percent of the gpu(an already under powered gpu), 2 cpu cores of 8, and 3 gigs of ram of 8 is reserved at all times for the damn OS.
hell, I think the XB1 uses more resources to run the freaking OS then a damn pc running windows 8. Microsoft has dropped the ball hard.
Anything short would be done in cloud computing.. OF course servers can go down, your internet can go down bringing the game down. Remember SIMS?? People couldnt do single player.
But the ONE is not for games, is for multimedia entertainment, games are additional features, just like TV is in the XBOX 360. You won’t buy the ONE for the games, you’ll buy it for the TV.
the 3 people that down voted people me are people in denial.
I’m surprised there’s not a lock and key around it to ensure only the person that purchased it can open the case. Obviously the key is sold separately and you need to wait up to 28 days for it to be cut and delivered.
I kid… mostly… The layout looks slick. I’d like it if the next gen boxes didn’t lose half the pretty picture space with legal notices.
I love it!
Looks pretty boring to me. Did you get one of the interns in the art department to design it?
I agree. It’s not like I’ll make my console decision based on the box template, but looking Back, the Wii U does have a better presentation I think.
Xbox one isnt powerful to power the next gen games of xbox one?? SO WHY cant you make it play xbox 360 games as well?? Its not that it couldnt play it or the way xbox one was designed to do new games with its hardware, its that you want us to repurchase every damn thing we purchased prior. Then you have a patent on file for the kinect to monitor how many people in a room and stop a playback of a movie if their is more then 4 people in a room and require another viewer fee.
Because the One has a completely different, incompatible processor architecture (but one that makes much more sense for today’s marketplace). So either all the 360 games would have to be recompiled, or the One would have to include a PowerPC emulation mode. And as anyone who used the Mac’s PowerPC emulation mode when they switched to x86 processors will tell you, that probably wouldn’t run fast enough.
Well or separate VM that gets launched I think my concern is with what happens when games get re-released and were forced to purchase what is the same game. It just seems funny in the current Digital era, where “content lasts forever” that it only really lasts a few years.
As it seems with everything Xbox One its not what there doing, its how there handling it. They should be good at this by now. What has happened..
Because HBO, i mean XBO is to watch TV and listen to music and see you at all times, games is just a plus and Microsoft is not expecting you to take it seriously. They just made that digital composition of a box just to tell you, “it will have games, but that’s not what you’ll buy the ONE for”
I can’t wait till they tell us that games now cost 69.99
I think the artwork/case design is clean and precise, The motto of MS. However my only concern with the design is that the Xbox logo looks too similar to Xbox 360. It doesn’t to me screem of new gen console games. Maybe i Just want more magic.
At this point shoukd be nice if you understand that DIGITAL downloads at game launchs should be a mandatory feature
yah that’s one thing I really want is day one DD. If it’s a game I know I will play for a long time I’ll GoD it. If it’s a quick play n done I’ll get the disc version to trade in. But I’m a DD person and really prefer to buy the games I want to keep this way. Hope this happens.
It should not only be mandatory, it should be the only way, I know shaniqua1990 will be unleashed any minute now by its MS owners, so MS will be listening to this from it: instead of selling the discs, lend them at the game stores after the costumer pays for the license for his gamertag, that way, the costumer would install the game from the disc and then return the disc so someone could install it with a new license, that way, discs will only be to save broadband and download times.
That’s the problem, how many of the games dev’s want to spend the time and money to recompile old games when they are in the middle of new projects? Trust me, I have a loaded 320gb HD on my 360 but I’m just keeping the system until it dies.
Honestly I buy new systems for new games and pretty much NEVER touch BC ever, so not having the feature really doesn’t bother me one bit. Hey man, it’s just like the old days when new media comes out, all of your old stuff is done with and you need to start over with the new. It’s always been like that for the most part. I don’t love it either but I know it’s the way of things.
Don’t think the other guys aren’t doing the same thing lol, sure sony might offer some old game streaming but that won’t be a free service and it will only be for major games, not their arcade games. Next gen on all platforms is a clean wipe across the board. But hey, it’s been like 8 years so it’s time.
Does it disintegrate once you’ve activated the online pass code that makes the discs worthless? Inquiring minds want to know.
Not likely but you’ll wish it would. It’s gong to be like with PC, you buy the program, install it from disc and you never touch the disc again and you let collect dust and one day when you clean your house, it will go to the recyclable pile.
They’re making them in tandem with Aerobie. Parks will be full of people throwing next gen games around with grey unhappy faces.
The disc will actually shrink down to a mini demo-sized disc.
Thank god it doesn’t say better with Kinect!
The fact that its now assumed should be even more disturbing
It’s like a Wii game would have said, Better with the Wii Remote.
it won’t need to anyway since every Xbox One will come with kinect 2
how is a company so wrapped up in being about the “community” so wildly out of touch with their own customers.
It’s Microsoft and gamers are not the main customers of the XBOX ONE.
We have some great stuff (GAMES!) planned for E3. I know there are some questions floating around but I can say that we’ll have plenty of answers as soon as we can. Until then, let’s all take deep breath.
I feel bad you have to be a part of this disgrace to real gamers. I feel bad.
What’s your problem? They did a little hour long event to unveil the Xbox One, and you come out with that sentence. Completely pathetic and almost laughable.
Whats really laughable is that people like you dont really understand why people like me feel they ruined the xbox name.
Because of all the things that happened AFTER that announcement. The confusion with Used Games. The lack of backwards compatibility. The idea that if your kid has his own XBOX and account in the same house, you will need to buy 2 copies of a game if you want to play it on YOUR XBOX and account in the same house.
That’s what his problem is. The announcement? Enh. Lackluster in my book, but I’m not up in arms about that at all. They will announce more at E3. Sure. But all the things they DID confirm after the fact…that’s what the problem is.
I’ve supported XBOX since the start and am now at the point that I feel like I should buy the competition instead.
your afraid to get fired if you tell us more
I see what you did there..clever.
Hopefully the answers will be real, and not like that Yahoo thing. There wasn’t anything new there whatsoever.
i think the should send out a survey to the whole xbox community so they can figure out what we really want. at this point im like 40% into buying this console but i shouldnt be feeling like im about to pay for alot of stuff im not gonna use and really dont wont
The XBOX community is made by gamers who are considered peasants. The XBOX ONE community will be made by TV and Music services subscribers who are rich. The survey will be irrelevant.
