Xbox Meet up in Los Angeles

Update: Today we announced “Killer Instinct” is coming to Xbox One.
We will have it to play tonight at this meet up!

Also: The first 300 people there tonight will get a limited edition “Sunset Overdrive” t-shirt

If you are in the Southern California area, we’ve got a special Xbox Community meet up scheduled for Monday, June 10th at the Microsoft Store in Century City. Join me and members of the Xbox team as we show off Xbox One to the public for the first time. Plus we’ll also have hands-on time with the new Xbox One controller.

I may have one or two other surprises there as well ;)

Here are the details:

Where: The Microsoft Store, Westfield Century City in Los Angeles (Directions)
When: Monday, June 10th from 7:30pm – 9:00pm
Why: Come meet members of the Xbox team and see the Xbox One with your own eyes, plus take the Xbox One controller for a spin and see (and feel) for yourself the improvements we’ve made to one of the best controllers in gaming.

The event is free and open to the public but we expect a crowd, so I recommend getting there there early.

E3, Events, Xbox One By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Quintin C

    I’ll be there.

  • Boss

    Hope it’s $299

    • ElektroDragon

It better be, considering they cheaped out on the hardware compared to the competition. All things considered, that’s my biggest disappointment. Lack of power. 1/3rd less GPU horsepower, 1/2 RAM bandwidth.

      • Guest

What the F are you talking about? The RAM bandwith of the Xbox One is more than that of the PS4 (195,6GB/s>176GB/s). It’s probably even more as the 4 Move co-processor engines get 25,6GB/s each apparently (during the hardware panel they spoke of over 200GB/s).
        GTFO PoS troll fanboy!

        • Guest

Correct and that idiot is also forgetting that the Move engines are blitters (co-processors) that can duplicate many functions. It can take over certain GPU functions as well. That small 1/3 difference will be negligible with the proper optimizing.

        • usrev

you realize that junk about the cloud was fake right, just MS marketed bs.

          • Guest

Where did he say cloud? His math is correct, but the 4 Move engines are there to process things from the cloud indeed, amongst other things. It definitely wasn’t fake. My BUILD invitation speaks otherwise in very clear language.

      • Boss

If they sell it for like $300 Sony will be out of business the Playstation brand is like the only think they’ve got apart from Music / Flims

      • billjaxson

Lulz, what in the blue hell are you talking about? You are one misinformed individual.

        • ElektroDragon

Read the AnandTech article before calling me ignorant.

          • Guest

Anand looked at it from a pure PC perspective. They forgot the 4 Move engines. Sorry to burst your pauperfanboy bubble.

          • ElektroDragon

Well then Anandtech also forgot the Kinect overheard, the 3 OSes taking up 3GB of the 8GB, and the performance hit of running games in a virtual machine. Pauper? I made $3K on Intel stock alone today, buddy. Fanboy? I own all current consoles and handhelds. Try again. I’m just pointing out an inferior product when I see it. Enjoy your media box.

          • AndyW

Not exactly a fair comparison. The PS3 outclassed the 360 spec-wise, but that never really translated into a noticeable advantage in gameplay. The 360 and PS3 have 512 MB and belt out amazing graphics to this day. iPhones have significantly less RAM than Android phones and still produce high-end graphics. Servers can get by on 256 MB of RAM.
Software optimization is the real special sauce, and developers learn how to take advantage of a system’s capabilities better over the course of the device’s lifetime. Furthermore, the Kinect 1.0 had it’s own processor, and it stands to reason that Kinect 2.0 has it’s own.

          • ElektroDragon

No, the PS3 did not outclass the 360 spec wise.

      • Nick Peck

        Drugs are bad.

  • Mythic Pilot

if only I could go there

  • xjumper

I would buy a One if there is a SKU WITHOUT Kinect. Make it happen

    • xjumper

Lol at some kids giving me bad rep. There are simply people that dont like gimmicky Kinect…

      • Avatar Roku

About as silly as asking them to sell the console without WiFi included.

        • Jorge Garza

What if they tell you that without kinect the console is 100-150$ bucks cheaper?

          • Avatar Roku

The Kinect is a core component of the device. Every single game, app, and OS feature makes use of the Kinect. The controller itself has IR built into it to work with the Kinect. The system is not even functional if the Kinect isn’t calibrated.

I should correct what I said, this is like asking Nintendo to sell the Wii without the sensor bar included.

Microsoft put a huge portion of their R&D into Kinect because they believe it will be the main differentiator of the box. It’s the reason why people will buy Xbox over every other box from Nintendo/Sony/Apple/Google/Valve. Their entire concept of interactive TV hinges upon Kinect and it differentiates Xbox Live TV from Amazon Prime/Netflix/Hulu. They’ve built entire TV development studios around the world to produce TV content. Skype (which MS owns) is also a key component of the new Xbox. Kinect is a lynchpin feature of the device.

          • Jorge Garza

I’m agree with you, but the bad thing is because the design, it is a mandatory thing, sadly because it wasn’t before.

          • Avatar Roku

Why is it a bad thing? Developers are going to be able to build their games with the confidence that everyone has a Kinect now. It means we should see much better usage of the sensor and it’s capabilities. If you make a device optional (an accessory) then developers don’t support it that well and never take full advantage of it. As long as the sensor works well then it being mandatory is a good thing, not a bad thing.

          • The_Mad_Prophet

I agree. No one is complaining about the hard drive being “mandatory” in the XBO – because history has taught us that having it optional in the 360 caused all sorts of headaches for developers and ultimately the end user, who they were ironically trying to help by keeping it optional in the first place. I’d say the same is true for Kinect, it was somewhat gimmicky on the 360, but it is now clearly a useful part of the new system. Still, no one is being forced to use it.

          • ReadTheArticlePlz

True while nobody is technically holding a gun to our head and forcing us to use it we are being forced to have the kinect plugged in if we want to use the xbox one. I have never controlled my xbox 360 using kinect unless I was playing a kinect game. Otherwise I always use my controller. That is how I plan to control the one, if I were to buy one, as well. Also we have different definitions of useful. I still see kinect as a gimmick. “Xbox on”, “xbox tv”, “xbox play halo” is not useful to me it is just another gimmick.

          • The_Mad_Prophet

I see it as a time saver. I can walk into the room, tell it to turn on, and by the time i’ve picked up the controller and sat down and got situated, the system is up and waiting for me. I guess you could still do it the ‘old’ way completely by hand, but to each his own. I will say though that the kinect voice commands in Netflix have been pretty useful – i can pause it immediately instead of waiting for the controller to turn back on, a good 10 second delay right there.

          • Avatar Roku

If you choose to not use voice control that’s fine, but it’s not a gimmick. Something that would take tons of button presses and several menus to go through can be accomplished with a single voice command. When I’m searching for content on Xbox Live you can’t honestly tell me it is faster to type in a search with the game pad. Also let’s say I want Kinect to load up an application, or start a game. If I can do that by voice instead of having to scroll the location of the content and dig into menus, then voice is faster. If I want to tune into a specific TV channel or show instead of memorizing channel numbers and scrolling through pages and pages of a guide, I can say the name of the network or channel. Saying “Show me HBO, Sunday at 9PM” instead of searching for the TV app, opening up guide, scrolling through a huge list of thousands of channels to find HBO, then scrolling through days of the guide to find the day and time. Now imagine typing in “Game of Thrones” on the game pad to find out when it is on, instead of just asking the Xbox “When is Game of Thrones on?”
It is not a gimmick if it improves functionality and speed as I indicated. But maybe you’re not comfortable using voice, fine, the Xbox One seems to be built to be a shared family device. Maybe you will like the gamepad better as a form of interaction, but some of your family members will be much more comfortable using voice to interact with the system. If it works well woice interaction makes the system much faster and much more approachable.

          • ReadTheArticlePlz

Its all a matter of opinion. I didn’t buy an xbox to talk to it. The couple of seconds it takes me to change a channel or input on the tv with a remote was not killing me. I don’t watch a lot of channels and know the numbers of the ones I do watch so there is no scrolling through thousands of channels. To me it is a gimmick I am being forced to pay for and keep plugged in if I want an xbox one. To you it is a great and useful device. I’m also curious if you have a current kinect that you keep plugged in all the time? Does it work just like they say it does? Despite being calibrated many times it still ignores me most of the time but if somebody says back, stop, rewind, etc.. on the show/movie/sports I’m watching the damn things is more than happy to react. Its a gimmick. I don’t want to talk to my games or my tv. You are more than welcome to on your xbox, but I should be given the choice of not having to on mine.

          • Jorge Garza

I know what you mean, and you are kinda right, but as you said, “as long as the sensor works”… what if it doesn´t? We are all skeptical.

          • ReadTheArticlePlz

Not nearly the same thing. The Wii controllers need the bar to work. The xbox controllers do not need the kinect to function. The Kinect is simply a secondary way to control the xbox.

          • The_Mad_Prophet

Good luck using your Wii without controllers – they’re an integral part of the system – just as the Kinect has been designed to be for the XBO. Whether or not that was a good design choice remains to be seen, but I’m optimistic.

          • ReadTheArticlePlz

you are ignoring what I said, I stated they are different because without the bar the controllers wont work and there is no other way to control the system. On the xbox, controlling the unit by controller or kinect are separate so saying shipping an xbox without a kinect is the same as shipping a wii without the bar is not an equal comparison.

          • The_Mad_Prophet

The controllers on the new Xbox are made to operate specifically WITH the kinect. They DO need it to function. This is a totally different design from the 360/kinect combo. So yeah, that puts the new Kinect on par with the Wii’s sensor bar, in terms of not being able to operate the system without it.

          • ReadTheArticlePlz

Made to work with it yes, but I have seen nothing that states the controllers will not work without it. Can you link to that interview/faq page?

          • The_Mad_Prophet

Yeah it’s in the Xbox Reveal video. Around the 24 minute mark. The dude describes how Kinect is the unifying force between the controllers, smartglass, and the console. I imaginethe Kinect has a lot of processing power on its own so certain functions (like controller usage) can be offloaded by the console.

          • ReadTheArticlePlz

I watched the reveal they never said it was required, it mentioned that the kinect could tell if a player was holding a controller and use that to identify the player but it never said it was required for the controller to work.

          • The_Mad_Prophet

You have to read between the lines a bit; they’re not going to just come out and tell you what the limitations are, they only focus on the positive (such as it is).

It has already been widely reported (IGN and other places) that the console “will not function” without Kinect. That alone should be a good sign the controllers won’t work without Kinect (as nothing else will work, either). No reading between the lines there.

But, in the reveal video they describe how the Kinect is basically a hub that manages all user interactions, whether it is voice commands, hand/body gestures, smartglass integration, or the controller itself. It doesn’t make sense to have ONLY controller functions kept at the console, given that everyone will have a Kinect and it’s already got every other form of console interaction built in.

So yeah, we have to get out of the mindset that Kinect is just an optional accessory – they seem to have fully integrated it into the system this time around. I think once people get over their initial apprehension, it won’t be nearly as bad as the naysayers are currently saying.

          • ReadTheArticlePlz

I can understand where you are coming from. But… one thing MS needs to realize is that forcing something that people don’t want on them will not make them like it. In my opinion, obviously yours differs, kinect is not anything special and should be an optional accessory, forcing us to have it by making it “essential” does not change anything. I’m fairly certain the more serious games will still use it for nothing more than voice commands and looking around like in the car games. If I want to get up and make “me the controller” I’ll play a kinect specific game. But things like the voice controls added to Halo anniversary, or Skyrim got tried out a few times and then never used again. They were a gimmick and just not worth it to me. Again, these are just my opinions, but based on these forums and the internet, they are not that unique.

          • The_Mad_Prophet

Fair enough. To each his own! :)

          • Holesome

Unfortunately for you the new Kinect is required and needed in more ways than we might think. Perhaps video conferencing, voice/speech recognition, audio pre-processing, noise cancelation, sound location detection, image pre-processing, image capture/recognition, sign in, power on, controller/split screen location detection, possibly aware of other devices in hand such as a mic or stearingwheel, possibly pre-processing for illumiroom?. Also, as far as I know, this new Kinect will process these functions within its own hardware so not to consume much core xbox resources.

          • Jaffa Cake King

Kinect is the reason why someone who has supported them for over 10 years will no longer do so.

      • Nick Peck

and guess what, you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to. Just let it sit there and that’s it.

        • http://www.facebook.com/Natetendo83 Nate Brown

Except the system won’t turn on if it’s not hooked up. Nice effort.

      • XBO_Gamer_John

I only gave you bad rep because you’re off-topic. This isn’t a wishing-well or a terms-of-negotiation platform, it’s about discussing this post about a Meet-Up in Los Angeles. I’m probably not ever going to use Kinect btw so I actually am with you in some respect. Actually now that I think about it in retrospect I’m probably guilty of the same thing in other places so sorry for the negative :/

  • Reinier Martinez

    I’ll be there Larry, can’t wait. :D

  • Ivanx360xpira

Wish I could, but I live VERY VERY far from it, Major, could y steam it via Xbox live?

  • XBO_Gamer_John

Oh man, I’m car-less at the moment but if I can find one before then I’ll SO be there!
BTW “one of the best controllers in gaming”? Don’t be humble, cut out the “one of.” It’s the best, hands down.

  • Avatar Roku

Really wish I could be in LA now. :( Any chance of you doing events like these at other Microsoft Stores around the country?

“I may have one or two other surprises there as well ;)

    • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

Trust me, you don’t want to live in LA, take it from someone who has been born and raised in this cesspool only to see it taken over by… well nevermind..
Anyhow I’m going to try to make it if I can get someone to go with me. If the crowd is too large I might just leave though. Probably a 45 minute drive for me.

      • Guest

I could have sworn you were going to out the N-word…

        • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

No that’s not the group of freeloading breeders I was referring to. :)

          • ryder4life22187

Lol but according to a good portion of america they show how have more rights then we natural born citizens have.

          • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

They don’t, instead parents of these children use them to get their own citizenship.,. Hence the term anchor babies. Anyhow lets get back on topic.

      • Avatar Roku

Ha, I’ve been to LA several times for E3. Yeah I didn’t mean I wish I could live in LA. I meant I really wish I could be in LA for this. Also I think this Microsoft Store is far away from the downtown area you want to avoid. They usually build Microsoft Stores in wealthier areas and upscale malls.

        • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

I know, I was just making a joke really.. :)

      • guest

LA’s a pretty cool place to live. maybe if you didn’t live out in south central, you’d like it. check out the westside…

      • GmailIsDown

LA is like Oakland, only bigger.

  • zullo

Major Nelson you say you can clear some of the drm and allways online rumors … we have 2 wait fot that Event or you will say something before ? Thx for your work and greetings from Germany :-)

  • vampero

I hope everyone enjoy’s trying the XBOX ONE. Make sure ask the question they don’t want you to ask please ! XBOX hardcore gamers will love you for it ! Thanks

  • usrev

maybe they will announce they won’t restrict used games. Inb4 fanboy downvotes but they results of pretty much every poll online and every news website agrees the x1 in it’s current form is a failure. the vocal minority of xboned fanboys can at least play call of halo together.

    • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

While I agree as we stand right now people who are optimisic of the Xbox one are the vocal minority, you still come off as a fanboy.

      • usrev

you ARE a fanboy so that doesn’t change anything, the fanboys are the only people left on xbox after that showing and the used game BS. go to the xbox forums and look at all the posts still talking about how it failed. there are like 5 in total people defending the useless console.

“You haven’t logged on to the internet in 47 hours. Therefore we must assume you are a criminal. We shall lock everything except movies until you connect to the internet. Stable internet not available? Can’t afford internet cause you lost your job? In the Military? Just want to relax and game? Too bad.

We could have done something innovative and had the xbox be its own wi-fi hotspot, but we decided you should jump through several hoops of fire to play a physical disc instead. Deal with it.”

      • http://www.facebook.com/Natetendo83 Nate Brown

Pretty much. What scares me is that people are supporting this stuff. Probably the same people who voted for Obama thinking it would help the economy.

        • Dylan

Woah hey leave the politics outta this haha

          We’re all gamers here :)
And gaming is worldwide. Though Microsoft likes to pretend that the only gaming market is in the US…

MS(Republican Party) didnt shoot itself in the foot and disconnected with every kind of voter then SONY(OBama) wouldnt have been the logical choice.

What!? There is Internet on middle east!

          • Dylan

          • Juan Carlos Cancela

Yeah? Woah, thats weird. I was sure that there was internet access there. Given that case, makes sense then to have special X1 versions for that cases.

  • Shawn Springer

BestBuy has 110 stores that will be displaying WII U for E3.I thought MS was bigger then Nintendo. I am not buying it, and its just not worth it. I have money invested in the 360, and I wont buy another gaming console til they change business practices.

    • Shawn Springer

Take a used xbox 360 game disc in to see if it wont read cause its a MICROSOFT product.. Or a USED Microsoft product.

      • XBO_Gamer_John

Wait… what are you even talking about? It won’t work, but not because it’s used, it won’t work because Xbox One is not backwards compatible, lol.

      • disqus_vkwyaBuO48

        you lost me there bud?!?!?

      • Morgon Britton

        ?????

    • TonyLN

WiiU has been out for almost a year… And they are losing the console battle. There have been more 360s sold in the US since the WiiU was released than WiiUs have been sold total. Nintendo is trying to do everything they can to get people to buy their consoles.

    • http://twitter.com/Audacityscape Mario Miscione

Wii U doesn’t have a conference at E3… why? because they know they can’t hold a candle to the MS and Sony conferences.

      • kingcrusher

Actually, Nintendo’s E3 showing will be quite grand. They have no new hardware to show, and they are not trying to directly compete with these new systems. So, why waste the time giving a conference and just let the games speak for themselves.

Nintendo’s got a fantastic lineup this year and just as the 3DS got a slow start, so is the Wii U, but it’s still a great system. I love it.

But will I have a next gen PS4 or XBox? Yes. Which one? Hopefully MS convinces me to go their route again. We’ll see. Should be interesting.

        • disqus_vkwyaBuO48

I totally agree with you about Nintendo.

          • Shawn Springer

Exactly..If your global, stop thinking local. I mean seriously.. Gamers dont all live in California. If you have a bunch of stores, why wouldnt you show off the console your happy about?

        • GmailIsDown

I’m still waiting the Wii U to pick up steam. It needs a much bigger game library to really take off.

  • Jaffa Cake King

It isn’t the only reason. There’s a whole list of idiotic decisions MS have made regarding this console, mandatory Kinect is just at the top of that list. Personally i don’t find it useful, just annoying and somewhat pointless. A toy for the kids to play with. Something to make the grandparents smile at how clever it is.

As for it being sad, well it all comes down to personal choice doesn’t it? I base my purchasing decisions on things i like and want. Why would i buy something i don’t want?

  • grapony@bellsouth.net

I am a 5 year gold member, and will never buy as console that has DRM, Remember that.

    • EighteenCharacters

I’m in the 7th year of my gold membership, and can’t think of a better answer to piracy than DRM — it’s currently the best solution we’ve got. Until someone comes up with a better option, we’re stuck with it. Besides, it hasn’t affected me in the slightest, and I doubt it ever will.

      • disqus_vkwyaBuO48

piracy is not the problem, that is why they switched from saying piracy to used games. do you honestly think DRM stops piracy? all it takes is a modded console or smart people and there goes your DRM…… the issue is renting games borrowing games and buying used games…… not stealing them.

        • Juan Carlos Cancela

Not so easy. In fact, XBOXes gets permanently banned if you mod it. Oh, X1 requires to be periodically online… so, guess the risks? ;)

          • disqus_vkwyaBuO48

Xbox’s only get banned if you get caught, same with PS3′s. you must not have a modded Xbox or you would know this. the problem again is not piracy, the problem is that there is too much money in the used games market that places like game stop etc are making. MSFT and the publishers wants a piece of that pie also.

personally I think it’s a last-minute money grab before they really start pushing digital downloads hard at us.

      • Dylan

Piracy on the consoles has never been lower.
The ESA has reported that it has gone down 10% in the last year, and they’ve never been faster at catching it.

This will only bring more piracy, and will only restrict the honest consumer.
Region locking will also bring more piracy.
Same thing happened with Ubisoft. Same thing happened with SimCity.

        • Morgon Britton

I agree, I am possibly getting a One but the online thing that has yet to be announced, is something that I am against.

          • GmailIsDown

As much as I love my Xbox 360, if Xbox One has that daily online check thing for every game like what Microsoft VP Phil Harrison has told Kotaku, I swear I won’t buy it. It is an insult to legit users.

          • disqus_vkwyaBuO48

I agree. I think if they want to go the route they are going, then they should have just made a box like steam is making…. make all purchases digital downloads only and then they dont have to worry about it anymore.

          • Dylan

Well it has been confirmed…all true

      • kingcrusher

DRM only hurts the honest. The dishonest will always find a way around it. So in the meantime, we, the honest gamers, get hosed.

        • Morgon Britton

There is always a way around everything so idk why they don’t just keep things the same.

    • freddie__t

      So you’ll never use PC?

Yeah, don’t buy overhype and underdeliver $0ny products.

  • Chris

Between the slow sales of the surface, the windowzs 8 crap and the DRM, This may be the death of Ms.

    • MrRadiolips

Not the death of them but an opening for a more trusted brand…but MS would probably branch off and not openly let anyone know that they changed their name to migrate their sheep to a different regime.

  • ScrewBot

    ..other surprises..?

“We are extending no-used-game DRM to the 360 to bring it into line with the new xBone policies.”

    • kingcrusher

While not compatible with XBox 360 titles, the XBox One will be Backwards compatible with Nintendo Gamecube games. We asked Nintendo about the situation, but we could not speak Japanese. Though the pulling of samurai swords and the yelling was telling enough.

In other news, Microsoft has patented a new device that will watch you and read your every move, including your vital signs. In case of emergency, it will call 911 for you, or if it detects any illegal software, hardware, or modified systems, it will immediately call the police. When asked for the practical applications, Microsoft responded with, “Well, we want to keep our players safe, and also know if they are using a pirated copy of windows, office, or if they are borrowing a game from a friend. We just can’t have our revenues slipping between our fingers, the dirty thieves!”

More news will be available next week when Microsoft does its best to convince the public that this is in fact the future of gaming.

      • ryder4life22187

At least if you get killed in front of your Xbox1 your family & friends will have evidence to know who did it. No more playing CLUE for the officers.

LOL, dude, I’m just having fun. I’m actually really excited for this event, and really hopeful that everyone’s issues will be resolved in some way that makes us happy with the system.

I’m just tired of worrying about it for now, so I just got a little silly. :-)

          • Morgon Britton

Oh good haha I was kinda like what? LOL never mind then you got me XD. One of my friends is going out to the event but I think Minnesota is a little far. I’m almost positive though good news will come out of it. :)

          • disqus_vkwyaBuO48

i would love to go to E3, but ill have to sit and watch it on tv as always lol.

          • Morgon Britton

With the One you can play your game and when E3 comes on you can switch instantly XD. I do kinda like the feature and I’m not worried about it being a game console

          • disqus_vkwyaBuO48

the tv stuff i have no interest in, but i am excited to see some brand new IP’s. im looking forward to E3 for the first time in many many years.

          • Morgon Britton

Me as well. We just have to wait and see. i wish other people had some patience.

          • kingcrusher

Patience, i can learn that….. Ummm, How long will that take!?

          • Morgon Britton

Pretty sure I can control if I want to go shoot up a store or go rob a bank. Why you so mad about stuff?

          • MrRadiolips

      • MrRadiolips

You my friend are open…wish more of society in general can extend the thought beyond themselves and what they are “told”. Love this!!

      • GmailIsDown

I don’t get the Gamecube joke. Someone enlighten me.

      • ScrewBot

In reality, it’s the PC that is “backwards-compatible” with almost everything. You can already play GameCube & Wii games on it, (via Dolphin), and pretty much everything that has gone before. In the future we can expect the PC to also play 360, PS3, xBone, PS4 games etc etc. At least I expect that. Maybe the PC really will go extinct first.

        • GmailIsDown

I thought Nintendo did not allow anyone to use emulators to play their games.

    • safdf

They already have, install the new Crash Course 2, then run it offline or with low bandwidth, it will loop trying to log to a server for updates, if it installs them, it will require you to have Gold in order to play.

  • MrRadiolips

I know that everyone is interested about the upcoming news but what the F’n F!! A few of you people are nut bag delirious. Just chill..its like a “lets get defensive party”…and you were the only one invited. Just calm the F down take a breath and have some sort of reality moment that not everyone is going to automatically think what you expect.
We all have opinions!!!! Get real!!!

  • kingcrusher

If I could have one wish, it would be that MS would get the rights to an old 3DO game called “Immercenary” You can google it to check it out. It was an amazing game for its time.

Well, my wish ring disappeared, so I think that means I’ll get this game made now! Dang, should have wished for the DRM to be gone! Oh well.

    • Dylan

Definitely a game that could go to Gog . com eventually

They have old classic games like that, all DRM free + cheap prices + free soundtracks and extras

      • kingcrusher

It was a 3DO only title. Never went to PC or any other console. Didn’t sell well, but man was it amazing. Watching a video of it on Youtube right now and it’s bringing back some seriously awesome memories!

        • Dylan

Yeah most of the games on it were ports or were ported. Except for that one. I think EA has the rights. So there’s some hope

          • kingcrusher

sadly, it didn’t do so hot sales-wise, but one can dream. I mean, EA has the rights to Archon and they’ve never done anything with it. Strange, Archon was so awesome as well!

          • Shawn Springer

I had wolfenstien for the 3D0 and Road Rash.. Both epic :)

          • MrRadiolips

Loved Road Rash. I remember jumping off the motorcycle at the end of the race into the crowd just to hear them grunt and scream.

          • SteveFNL

Archon has been remade for iOS, just so you know. It’s a very good replica.

          • kingcrusher

Sweet! I will have to check it out.

        • safdf

It sure has some jewels, but this console had a terrible problem, lack of vision from developers. An awful price (+$400 vs. $200 average), no 3-D hardware, slow loading times, no expandable backup RAM. Such a shame. Maybe XBO will be the 3DO of this generation.

  • dgtlmeatloaf

I like it, however this should be in texas because thats where I live. Don’t pay attention to the screaming nerds, they are just a vocal minority.

A bit off topic here but since this is the only blog i am part of i thought i would ask here. I am considering getting a ps3 for its exclusive i can currently get one at my local store for £184 for 320gb model. should i get this will it be worth it?

    • GmailIsDown

If you have waited this long you might as well wait until PS4 is out. There should be a decent price cut during black friday or holiday shopping season.
£184 is not a good price considering you can get a used good condition 500GB super slim off Amazon right now for £140~£160, and a NEW 500GB super slim retails £194.99 on amazon.

      • barry3218

thanks for the reply and info, are there any free games on ps3 aswell or any exclusives that stand out (havent looked at ps3 much).

        • GmailIsDown

I was not aware of any good free games on PS3. There are games that are “free” with a paid PSN+ subscription. Those games are free only when you have an active PSN+ subscription and Sony makes different games available for free throughout the year.

Good PS3 exclusives in my opinion include Uncharted series (must play if you have a PS3 in my option, though the non-exclusive Tomb Raider game is much better than those), God of War series (if you are into mindless hack and slash), Heavy Rain (adventure game that is a little bit like The Walking Dead adventure game on Xbox 360. awesome game.), inFAMOUS series (you can get all of them in inFAMOUS collection for cheap), Gran Turismo series (they are like Forza series on Xbox 360. at least try the GT 5 XL), Ni No Kuni (excellent Japanese RPG with a charming art style. must play!), Little Big Planet series, Valkyria Chronicles (strategy game done right. too bad the developers moved the sequels to PSP because developing games on PS3 is too costly), ICO and Shadow of the Colossus (classic game remakes that are really unique and beautiful).

There are also a lot of quality Japanese games that are exclusive to PS3: Atelier, “Tales of” games (most of them are exclusive to PS3 anyway), Rune Factory, Ar tonelico, Disgaea, etc. They may not for everyone but at least check them out if you have a PS3. I especially love Atelier and Ar tonelico. Not a big fan of Disgaea.

As for FPS games, there are Resistance and Killzone series which are PS3 exclusive but I have not played them that much so can’t comment. (I mostly play FPS on my Xbox 360 as the 360 controller feels more natural to me.)

As for upcoming PS3 exclusives, The Last of Us is a highly anticipated title and looks very promising. The demo is already available. (I’ll probably get it when the price goes down a bit.) The PS3 remakes of Final Fantasy 10 and 10-2 will be released by the end of this year. The new game from the maker of Heavy Rain, BEYOND will be out in October. Also I’m quite excited about Falcom’s first original PS3 title, Sen no Kiseki, which should be a good JRPG with a feel-good plot, depth in combat, and a lot of things to do just like the previous titles in the Legend of Heroes series. It will only be released in Japan (for now) but as PS3 is not region locked, I can buy it directly from Falcom or from importers like play-asia or even download it from PSN network (the PS3 equivalent of Xbox Marketplace) while logged in with a Japanese region PSN account and with enough credits in JPY. I usually buy Japanese PSN cards from importers and add them to my Japanese PSN account. If there’s one thing that PS3 is better than Xbox 360, it is the fact that it is not region locked.

I love both consoles. From design to game line-up, PS3 feels more artistic and feminine, while Xbox 360 is more manly and mature. Games that are cross-platform usually play better on Xbox 360 than PS3, possibly due to the fact that they were developed for Xbox 360 first and then ported to PS3. (I have games such as Assassin’s Creed 3 and Tomb Raider both on Xbox 360 and PS3, I know.) My main console is Xbox 360 even though I play PS3 a lot for the exclusives.

          • disqus_vkwyaBuO48

I will have to agree with this, I was taken back by the last paragraph when you said “PS3 feels more artistic and feminine, while Xbox 360 is more manly and mature” but as I sat and thought about it I kinda agree accept for the mature part, the games 360 trys to focus on says otherwise.

the PS3 is geared more towards all around gaming lots and lots of beauty in artistic details and game play. their target demographic is the older generation of gamers…. people who grew up in the 70′s and 80″s. there is nothing mature about 360 so I don’t understand what you’re talking about. if we go by documented demographic facts from both the 360 and PS3, if your between the ages of 10-25 the 360 is your console of choice, if you’re 26+ buy the PS3.

if you don’t want to believe me or someone took offence to this all im going to say is use the internet and look it up. there are reputable sites and market analysis out there with their sole job of doing this stuff. why do you think Xbox live has Doritos and Mt.Dew ads and ps3 has no ads at all.

again if people want to get mad by what I said go right ahead, I don’t really care. take one look at Microsoft’s new marketing strategy and next-gen console, they want that older more mature audience.

we are going to see a shift in what types of games they are going to focus on, we will see the typical FPS and racing games just to keep the established gamers happy and stop them from jumping ship but they will be offering a lot more mature games now.

          • GmailIsDown

i was not referring to the age group of the gamers when i said 360 was more mature. i was referring to my general impressions or images of the consoles. If they were people, PS3 would be a beautiful lady, Xbox 360 would be like a strong man, and Wii would be a kid who loves to play. Why? I was not entirely sure if I could express it entirely but I’ll try:
PS3 is more petite, from the size of the console to size of controller. It has a lot more youthful Japanese anime style games than what 360 has, where the plots are childish and the characters are young teeny boys and girls. Xbox 360 tends to have more games where big brutes snipe each other.

Also, and more importantly, technology wise PS3 is not as mature as Xbox 360 in a lot of aspects. And it’s not just cross platform games tend to run better on 360. PS3′s interface, though fancier, is not as good as Xbox 360 dashboard, from organization to UI response speed. It always pains me as to how long I need to wait just to get in/out of PSN store. Update takes forever, not to mention how long it takes to install a game. Ni No Kuni took my super slim PS3 the whole night to install. Seriously? The way background downloads works on PS3 is very awkward as well. I hope the new PS4 can completely rewrite their UI, instead of using the dated one inherited from the original PSP. Also, as Sony was getting repeatedly hacked a while ago, I never trust them with my info. I buy PSN cards from retailers and add to my Wallet and never store payment methods on PSN. Microsoft never gets hacked like that (except a few unsubstantiated urban legend like claims) and I trust them enough to store my CCs and PayPal on their system. As for multiplayer experience, Xbox 360 is far more mature than PS3, from player communication, connectivity, to amount of cheaters, enough for me to justify paying $35 a year gold subscription.

          • disqus_vkwyaBuO48

thanks for clarifying. i definitely agree with this. it does amaze me how long it takes to download and install games on the ps3. the dashboard really blows also. i like the interface for the ps4, well from what they showed… and yes seems they took a huge bite out of Xbox’s dash. also ill never place any CC info on my accounts, i always buy cards from 7-11 lol.

i really like the 360 when it first came out, all those new IP’s always adding new stuff too. it just died off after a few years….the PS3 started off slow and has seemed to finally get it together at the end. both consoles are great for different reasons, i am a gamer and i love playing all different types of games. i wont let brand loyalty limit my game playing or purchasing.

im not a fanboy of either console and i will buy both down the road, right now it comes down to E3 and what will be the line up of the first year. that’s when i will choose which one to buy first.

im really hoping for lots and lots of 1st party games for both consoles. nothing sets apart a console from its competitor like 1st party development. when a game is solely designed for 1 console alone it shows the raw and true power of said console. unlike ported 3rd party versions.

its going to be very interesting to see the new systems head to head, reason being they are both almost identical, what one console can do the other pretty much can do also. and im not talking about TV, all that is is just a pass through with a IR booster attached to the rear to change a channel. we shall see in about 6 days. im hoping both systems sell extremely well, the game industry needs competition to stay on its toes, one company need to push the other and visa-verse.
also i wanted to say thanks for having an actual conversation, most people only throw out hate and down vote. you cleared up what i didnt understand and did it with out being negative in anyway, again i say thank you.

          • Jig

I’m forty and I highly disagree with the “older gamers play PS”.

        • Dennis Crosby

They have some free to play games but in most cases you will have to pay for add ons but you will definitely hate there updating process

  • boe2

To those that live in the right location and have the time to attend this: Have fun, it seems we will be seeing new information about the XO (X1?) before the E3 conference.

The European Xbox One websites are also taking shape already, this thing might actually launch sooner than anticipated. Glad to conclude that when you said that Xbox will be present at gamescom, you WERE talking about the One.

  • DerpieDutch

A leaked picture on 4chan shows a new Banjo- Kazooie. Just sayin

    • John

Yeah, but people at NeoGAF claim it’s faked. Although I’d LOVE a new B-K in the original 3D platformer sense.

    • safdf

Obvious fake, the B-K game was the main clue, also the lack of Halo games and a bogus Fable 4 title.

      • beardyman3218

there is a fable 1 remake coming though, theres a teaser on youtube. #HideTheChickens

You are LOL for the word Fanboy, for those who say it’s got record pre-orders or those who hate the qwirks of the XBO? It’s quite confusing.

  • disqus_vkwyaBuO48

lmao, they are breaking pre-order records at Blockbusters. who the heck pre-orders from blockbusters? I will accept this when I hear from companies other than blockbusters or amazon. I havent even seen a blockbusters in over 5 years. blockbuster also refuses to give actual numbers, i would lean towards them hyping up sales to get people into their stores….. they have received a whole bunch of free press from this rumor which they have yet to confirm with actual proof.

    • beardyman3218

and asda and grainger games. which is big news grainger games is just as big as game. asda has stores all over the place so there must be a huge amount of orders for them too say this.

      • disqus_vkwyaBuO48

well at least someone other than blockbuster is reporting this, i feel better knowing it isn’t just them.

        • beardyman3218

yes, i though the same thing when blockbuster announced this, just due to the fact there isnt as many stores anymore but when a store chain as big as asda is reporting this there must be very high demand.

  • beardyman3218

hope you have a great time, ive always wanted to go.
