Arcade, Deal, Game Add-on, Marketplace, Xbox 360 Games On Demand By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

State of Decay is my only pick up

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Scott-Brown/1452225913 Scott Brown

this game is really good…. way better than the walking dead disaster activision put out..

      • Bush O Connor

        is it co-op?

        • JoeGrahamcracker

No, but they said if the game sells well that co-op might be added in the future.

          • Bush O Connor

as an added dlc no doubt. from the videos of the game it looks like co-op should be standard. it looks like a better version of dead rising.

  • http://twitter.com/lassenwolf lassenwolf

with xbox 1 coming out and knowing none of these games will transport why buy anything from 360 again. xbox 1 is not all in one you still need a 360

    • Aaron Griffin

So what? The Xbox One isn’t coming out for a while so you still have plenty of time to enjoy the games you buy now. Also, you don’t have to destroy your 360 in order to get an Xbox One. You’ll still have it and be able to play it any time you want with only swapping a few wires or the input on your TV, so why is it that big a deal that it isn’t backwards compatible?

      • Holesome

Exactly. I’m thinking, if I don’t hookup my Sat Receiver, I may just plug my 360 into the back of the X1. Maybe there will be a tighter integration between the two consoles this way like “xbox 360″ to flip to the 360 screen. Here’s hoping.

        • DudBug

But this makes the name ‘Xbox One’ a joke. If it is the ‘one’ device for all our entertainment needs then why our Microsoft advising us to hold on to our 360s? If only they had put as much effort into providing backwards compatibility for us gamers as they have done with the spurious TV elements.

        • Hugoku

That’ll be like googling google… you’ll break XBL.

    • Hugoku

I think there’s too much unnecessary drama around this.

Honestly, I can’t remember when was the last time I used BC on my 360. And the console being so ubiquitous it’ll be easy and cheap to get a replacemente in the future.

      • Michael Andrews

The original xbox didn’t have 7 years worth of Arcade Live games, games on demand. or digital content as it does today. If the 360 didn’t make at least halo 2 backward compatible, few people would have adopted the system and it would have failed. I was buying games on demand to replace my discs to have the games forever. I didn’t realize the digital content would be a rental.
If the xbox one were backward compatible, I would be an early adopter, but since it isn’t, there’s nothing really selling me on a new system.

        • Hugoku

To be honest, the original Xbox survived thanks to Halo.
The BC was out of necessity. This is not the case anymore for the 360. They don’t need to hold back the new Xbox just because of BC.

The 360 will only get cheaper and you’ll always have the games there. I still own the original Xbox but have not touched it since ages though.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Scott-Brown/1452225913 Scott Brown

    Sleeping Dogs GonD

varies… does that mean you click to purchase and a wheel spins to see what price you pay??

    • mcmax3000

It means that pricing is different in every region, just like all Games on Demand titles.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Scott-Brown/1452225913 Scott Brown

        ty mc

  • Aaron Griffin

Its easily worth $15. I also bought it for $20 during the last sale and it was definitely worth that much. An amazing open world game with a surprisingly good plot. Loved the characters too. Hoping for a Sleeping Dogs 2.

  • http://www.majornelson.com Major Nelson

Nope..not accurate. I updated this post.

  • Daniel Higgins

There might be 2 versions of xbox one, a basic model and a model with a bigger hard drive and backwards compatible mode? Would be a good surprise and called xbox one infinity

    • Holesome

      Not going to happen.

      • http://twitter.com/ENich1 E.Nich

No, but it’s a great idea. Don’t MS guys come here to see the user’s feedback? Take note of that one: big HD and b/c.

        • Holesome

The multiple models may come about but backwards compatibility isn’t. As far as I understand it can’t be done due to the difference in processor and system architecture. However, what we may end up with is backwards compatibility via an add-on low-cost super-mini 360.

          • BlinkFandango

The argument about system architecture is retarded, they can always do emulation (that’s how the old Xbox games worked on the 360).

          • Michael Burden

What is retarded is you thinking emulation of the past generation games is easy. The games on the 360 have a lot more complexity than the past games and the gap in power between the PowerPC used in the 360 and the AMD chip to be used in the One is a lot less than between the 360 and the original Xbox. And if you remember, each game emulated on the 360 had to be coded individually (or at least in sets with similar programming) which led to only a portion of the library being supported and many of the more complex (or obscure) titles getting no support. The 360 library is WAY bigger than the original Xbox was and this would be a huge undertaking in time and resources with no return on investment.

A hardware solution would have been the only viable option, but that would have increased the cost of the console, added to the complexity of the system (by having two completely different processors using wildly different instruction sets and operating systems), and increased the heat produced as well as the power consumed by the console.

          • Volitar Prime

I remember rumors about such an add-on and I would be OK with that.

    • safdf

I think the XBOX Infinity will be the next one, IMO, XBO will go down in history as a failed transitional system, like 3DO, PSP Go or DSi.

  • https://live.xbox.com/MyXbox/Profile?gamertag=DarkGin87 Lee Rayson (DarkGin87)

Thanks I would of bought it but you saved me money

  • Sean Mccoy

cant respond major you said you will give us and update on the used game issue but u said nothing yet since you said

(Over the past few days, we have been reading comments and message boards following the Xbox One announcement. There are a few questions regarding used games. I wanted to clarify and provide this official statement:

The ability to trade in and resell games is important to gamers and to Xbox. Xbox One is designed to support the trade in and resale of games. Reports about our policies for trade in and resale are inaccurate and incomplete. We will disclose more information in the near future)
and u haven’t said nothing after this whats the hold up thought u would said something before E3 to put this to rest. but I guess Microsoft is waiting for playstation 4
give us some kind of info

  • https://twitter.com/#!/BeeDizz BeeDizz

Tomb Raider is a game that I REALLY wanted. But thanks to Microsoft doing away with the Family Gold plan I had to use the Tomb Raider money on 4 separate subscriptions. But hell, for $30 I might finally pick this up.

    • ungeheier

      Family Gold plan went away?

      • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

Yeah it’s gone along with the Facebook/Twitter/Sales and specials apps… along with Netflix Parties, the ability to video chat with people using kinect on WLM messenger and many other things they just take away with little to no notification.

        • ungeheier

Hmm… Well, Xbox Support just said that it will auto-renew if I have it set up. Curiously though, my renewal date is the day of the E3 press conference. =

          • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

I would definitly call them back to confirm that. Either they are totally misinformed or they added it back. I highly doubt they did though. Definitely check that out though. Goodluck man.

        • John

It’s all gone away slowly because the next OS this fall with have Skype integrated, like on Xbox One.

      • https://twitter.com/#!/BeeDizz BeeDizz

Yep. Unless they bring it back in some form for the Xbox One launch. It’s currently not an option any more.

        • ungeheier

Yeah, interestingly enough my Family plan is set to renew on June 10th.

          • https://twitter.com/#!/BeeDizz BeeDizz

If it’s set for auto renew leave it alone. My friends went through after they cancelled the family plan. But mine didn’t.

  • http://twitter.com/ENich1 E.Nich

Waiting until next tuesday to see what this Sunny Day Sale is about.

  • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

So gamers are still eating these deals up eh? I guess when reality checks in and your console gets an RROD alot of you will finally understand that the life of your digital titles doesn’t last beyond the life of:
    1. Your console Hardware
    2. Your HDD
    3. The current XBL servers
When the servers are closed, we can no longer get title updates because MS had a lamebrain idea to save our title updates (without them our game saves and dlc are completely useless) to the stupid temporary cache that people delete nearly every day! This means you better use that license transfer tool if your current 360 wasn’t the first console you guys downloaded stuff to, and you all better back up your files to multiple USB sticks.
Even then, we have to worry about our console failing, MS killing the servers, not being able to download everything in our history forever… whichever comes first.
As promising as that new zombie games looks, I still haven’t bought anything for my 360 once MS came out and said No Backwards compatibility. If anything BC should be important in any gamer’s mind if they actually collect games and consoles and value their investments.
So many of you are going to learn the hardway and if you don’t care? You must not value all that money so many of you have invested in this brand.

    • johnnytwotimes

I understand your frustration with the lack of backwards compatibility. However, I don’t see buying games now as an investment in the future — I see it as having fun and enjoying it in the present.

      • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

Well Johnnytwotimes, I don’t want to be rude or anything but that mentality is exactly what they want you to think. Are you really content with everything just being a rental then because unless measures are taken into account that allow the consumer to safeguard his/her investments, this is exactly what totally Digitial Distribution is headed.
I appreciate your input, thanks for the reply!

    • GmailIsDown

      argue with the PC gamers.

      • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

I tend to not get along with PC gamers so I’d rather just avoid their brood alltogether.. The PC has never been a gaming platform to me personally.

    • safdf

“Having B/C is JUST ANOTHER FORM OF HAVING OUR TITLES BACKED UP”

Not really, sooner or later (maybe sooner with XBO), they will encounter the same problems you listed.

      • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

I fail to see how anyone can not see this. Are you aware that without title updates our game saves don’t work? Once our 360′s take a toll for the worst (and they most likely will) we wont have access to those games anyhow unless we buy a console 2nd hand if they are even available.
I respect your opinion but this is the exact reason why I’m not buying State of Decay or anymore arcade games for this console.

  • Antman666

Deal of the week is still showing last weeks offers (which are no longer reduced if you select them). If you go into Sleeping Dog’s DLC via Add ons/A-Z then the reduced prices listed above are shown (UK 5 June 2:24am).

  • Guerrero Ultimo

Just missed me on the Sleeping Dogs deal as I have been playing that free on PSN+. State of Decay may be a purchase as it sounds fairly interesting. I am sure my son will want it as he loves zombie games.

  • Sean Mccoy

    f u c k y o u major nelson and xbox one

    • MrRadiolips

Major is just the voice but MS is the problem. Dont blame someone for doing their job. I would be p-oed if people were nasty at me because of who i worked for. SOOO……F U C k the xbone!!!

    • Jorge Garza

You really have anger problems, take a chill pill.

      • Jaffa Cake King

Whilst i disagree with the direction the Xbox One has gone in i don’t
think there’s any need to be rude and offensive like that. Have a bit of
        respect for the Major please.

  • johnnytwotimes

Looking forward to State of Decay. Hope to read some reviews soon.

  • Sean Mccoy

wonder who’s going first on E3 sony or xbox

    • mightywombat

microsoft will, just as they always have been as of late

  • http://www.facebook.com/nick.prick.96 Nick Prick

wheres the june price drops? its june isnt it?

    • Marcus Roof

      read this as prune juice…

  • Michael Andrews

Where’s the Note stating that this content will not be compatible on the xbox one?

    • disqus_iqKPdhv16l

Gamespot had a Q&A with Microsoft games studios VP and he said it would not be compatible.

      • Fernando Coli Viotto

So I encourage everyone interested to buy games on Steam instead of this since no one there will throw your game library away.

PS: And I have this on 360 already,

        • Volitar Prime

I’m here to find out about games for my XB360. How will buying games on Steam help with this unless there is some method that I don’t know about to play Steam games on it.

          • Fernando Coli Viotto

Tell me that again when you’re not able to play your owned games anymore.

          • safdf

If you are so in love with Steam, what are you doing here? This thread is for updates for the XBOX 360 so we can decide if we will get them or not, if I wanted to know about Steam, I’ll go to that page, maybe I should do it and try to “evangelize” everyone there to to abandon their Steam platform and go to other systems.

          • safdf

If Steam is so godlike, why does Valve make game for the X360? Why does the god Valve has to kneel before a mere mortal?

          • Volitar Prime

So you are saying that if I buy games for my XB360 on Steam that I will continue to be able to play them? Please tell me how to do this!

        • safdf

Maybe its cheaper, maybe it runs on PC, but sooner or later, Steam is not gonna be compatible in future PCs, I can’t run IBM PCjr games since Win98. Your HDD will break eventually or might get a virus and get blanked and the Valve servers will also close one day. It might have a virtually secured longevity, but they will also have the same fate.

      • Hugoku

I think he already knew that. He just had to ask.

    • safdf

As of now, it is not necessary to ad a note to XB360 releases, even if it is confirmed that they won’t.
How many people, today, June 5th, 2013, are gonna go to their XBOs to try using this content? When the ONE is released, they will have to ad the disclaimers.

    • Shane Medina

Why would Xbox LIVE Arcade games (there’ll be no XBLA on One) and DLC for Xbox 360 games (not Xbox One games) need a disclaimer that they won’t work on another console?

  • GmailIsDown

My Xbox 360′s 320 GB HDD is full again so I guess I should stop buying new games. I don’t think the stock 500GB HDD of Xbox One will be enough, as every game needs to be installed into HDD for Xbox One, and blu-ray games can be very big. On average, 500GB can only hold like 50 games top?

    • BlinkFandango

I think they’re doing what Nintendo did with the Wii U, letting you use an external hard drive for extra space. I would like to know if this external hard drive has a cap though, like the 360 had.

    • Kevin Perkins

Well, blu ray can hold up to 25 GB on single layer discs or 50 GB for dual layer discs so if they actually use all that space it could be much worse (as low as 10 games on a 500 GB HDD). That being said, there’s no way they use it all, I’d say 35 – 50 games on 500 GB. But I do believe BlinkFandango is right and they will be allowing external drives for more games, hopefully with usb 3 and no storage cap (I doubt it would be anything lower than 1TB if there is one at all).

    • beardyman3218

I believe you can use an external hard drive now, thats what the usb 3.0 port is for so you could have anything upto 5tb, which should be enough if not we could use a usb hub to connect as many as five hard drives.

    • John

It took me 5 years to get the 320GB full with XBLA games. Now I know that games are getting larger and the installations will be mandatory, but with the external storage option having no limits this time, I foresee no problems, especially if the USB3.0 ports deliver enough power themselves for larger drives instead of just flash drives. It will be cheaper than the proprietary stuff we have now.

What would be great is if everything installed on the external drives simply works on another console with my gamertag logged in, just like on the Xbox 360.

      • safdf

Hopefully, that’s if they don’t implement some sort of encryption for every console, some say that’s how the game saves were in the Original XBOX and the reason for which they stopped producing the memory cards so quickly for it. If they do, well, we all now how will this blog get.

    • Hugoku

Not all games take up that much space.
Most will average 15GB at most. It takes a lot of time and money to fill 50GB of data so it’s not gonna be the norm.

Besides, external storage should be cheap (got a 2TB external drive for USD$80 a few months ago).

    • Marcus Roof

just uninstall them when you’re done with them???

      • GmailIsDown

that’s what i have been doing on my xbox 360 but as i try to get all the achievements of a game before i’m done with it, it has been slow to clear up my backlog of games.

  • Marc Thostrup

Do anybody know what time today state of decay gonna be released???? :D

  • Marc Thostrup

Do u anybody know that time today State Of Decay gonna be released??????????? :D

    • boe2

You are right. Your previous post didn’t contain enough question marks indeed.

  • Bennijin

Sleeping Dogs now £11.99 in the UK. Wasn’t it £8.99 last time? ¬_¬

  • ben

Does anybody know when state of decay comes out in Australia

    • Bush O Connor

the european market usually gets updated at 10am. its 10.10am here now

  • Thiago

Where is the Scorpion Add On Injustice, is not available for download yet?

    • Bennijin

Out now for Season Pass holders, out next week for separate download.

  • Wael Hasno

Is Sleeping Dogs US only? My cousin in Sweden tried to buy it and well, he couldn’t.

    • safdf

I heard the EU has a harder censorship than in the US, especially in Germany, maybe is that.

      • Wael Hasno

Well, he lives in Sweden but his account is on the US marketplace. He got several errors for Sleeping Dogs, Mirror’s Edge and whatnot. We did pick Ghost Recon: Future Soldier on demand last week, though.. Weird..

        • Yuri Figueiredo Santos

I have an US account also and i live in Brazil, i just bought the game with no problems… dont know what happened to your cousin

  • James

Please put Gears of Wars Judgment in Games on Demand.

        sorry I mean Forza 4

    • Shane Medina

Games in retail and the marketplace at launch on the One. Finally.

      • GmailIsDown

24 hours mandatory online check-ins for both retail and marketplace purchases. Finally.

  • safdf

I don’t think they are rentals, you don’t get a contract that stipulates the end of your permission to use it or when you have to return it, at least not with XBOX 360.

    • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

They arn’t supposed to be but due to the DRM with both being tied to our accounts, and being tied to the title updates, they certainly are not going to be forever unless you either buy another 360 as a back up console, back up everything to usb sticks, or never delete our caches so we actually keep our title updates.

MS still hasn’t mandated that all title updates be stored on the HDD instead of our cache that gets deleted all the time. Why is it that all of our apps save the title updates to the HDD while only a select few games do the same? This is all poor planning on MS’s part as they clearly don’t value those of us who value our investment into the brand.

Maybe Sony can counter this with Gaikia… who knows..

  • http://www.facebook.com/plunkettp Philip Plunkett

Again, I don’t own it so I can’t say for sure. Sorry.

  • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

You are correct. I still don’t see the value for me in PSN+ because it’s a rental service and personally I prefer buying and owning my games than renting them. While technically GOD and XBLA games on 360 are classified as purchases, realisticly they are rentals and this is what has me so up in arms about this digital future when total Digital Distrubution kicks in… Most likely with the next generation of consoles after this one.

  • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

That’s good news for a lot of families, I hope Ungeheier gets it back since he did have the plan before.

  • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

You don’t see the point because you lack the ability to see the big picture here. Our consoles aren’t built to last anymore and that makes our purchases WORTHLESS once our consoles die. If anything with the upcoming and invetable switch to total digital distribution.. backwards compatibility NEEDS TO BE THE NORM. If not all our puchases are essentially rentals who’s EOL ends with the demise of our hardware and the title updates themselves.

You come off as someone who lives on rental services like PSN+ and someone who doesn’t value his investment. Something needs to protect our consumer rights and the only way that is going to happen is by making sure the games we buy are playable in EVERY FUTURE INTERATION OF OUR BRAND.

There are no if’s and’s and but’s about it, in the digital age, B/C isn’t a commodity, it needs to be the defacto standard.

  • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

This is the problem.. when everything goes digital there is going to have to be mandatory B/C or people are just going to stop buying knowing the 2000 dollars worth of XBLA titles are only going to last through the current generation only.

If I find out the Xbox One (If I even choose it over the PS4 which is doubtful at this point) doesn’t save title updates to the HDD and are able to be backed up via external HDD and/or USB, I will not support the brand because MS doesn’t have the consumer in mind. The only thing they care about now are their business partners and subscription services.
For christ sakes.. they couldn’t even listen to the general public during the recent dashboard beta.. We still have that unnecessary grey blob on our dash which makes our themes practically worthless.

Atleast the PS3 got this right by saving title updates to the HDD under Game Data Utility.

  • Shane Medina

Why would they do that? The XBLA isn’t going anywhere. Probably for another 5+ years. I’m sure they’ll still have some nice sales before launch, but still.

  • Ary

    WHAT IS SUNNY DAY SALE???????

  • Jared

sleeping dogs in canada is $30 buy on xbox $15 not bad

  • Jared

    Rage plz

  • ryder4life22187

Yes I have heard but doesn’t bother me. I’ve only spent less than 80 bucks on anything in the marketplace. Having 82 arcade games and DLC for the 70 percent of the 120+ retail game I have it doesn’t bother me. If you know how to take advantage of deals and know where to get them especially getting MSP free and arcade games free then it shouldn’t bother you.
