E3, Events, Xbox 360, Xbox Live, Xbox One By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Steelahlive

Well that was Uninformative – Only thing that had any relevancy was the way to use reputation statistics and data provided from the new Asynchronous matchmaking system was to better the system to detect possible exploiters/cheaters from ‘disruptions’

    • Mystictrust

I disagree. I enjoyed the explanations about gameplay from the guy in charge of Titanfall, and a little more insight into Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare than was given at the E3 event last night.

      • Steelahlive

Touche- I tend to think my own opinions are the ones that matter – I do neglect the fact that some people do enjoy these games that I don’t care about – I did/do like the titanfall game coming from battletech and mechwarrior heritage (mine that is) so any game that has mech suits I’m all for it – And will be getting this for PC definitely. Garden Warfare, eh – just not an interest of mine. My comment was more along the lines of the overall presentation – was very rehashed with the same videos we’ve already seen. A little further in depth but not much. And the “interactive” features were a little misleading- what new trailer are you looking forward to? halo – whatever the other two choices were – I didn’t expect that to steer the show so that they showed us yet again – the same one – I figured they meant IN THE FUTURE – what are you excited about – either way – good to see the old g4 crew back together earning a paycheck!

  • Dylan

The online requirement is here to stay

“I mean the analogy, and I don’t know if it’s a great analogy… let’s say I live in an area that doesn’t have cell service. I wouldn’t go buy a cell phone. Now, I might roam in different areas where my cellphone becomes active.”
    -Phil Spencer

    • Scarab83

It’s good to know he has the same attitude that Orth did.

    • dibils

good, i dont want to lose the ability to play games without needing a disc and share my library across all my and my brothers console without needing to move discs around

  • Dylan

    And the streaming is over.
Where was the surprise that MS employee was talking about?

    • Steelahlive

      Dropage……of Balls

    • heyitsme

I’m still waiting for my steak!!

    • Droideka75

I just dont care anymore :(

    • Mystictrust

I think they were referring to the fact that Titanfall was a surprise to most of the Microsoft team until they revealed it onstage at the press event…

  • Jeremy Sutherland

How many people on here are going to buy the Xbox One with its DRM restrictions and how many are not? (no judgement – just curious)

    • Boss

I don’t sell my games so it don’t bother me I just buy them cheap

      • E.Nich

Yup, but even if you don’t sell your games (me neither), there’s the always online and the always Kinect. Those are two dealbreakers for me, enough to never buy one thing of those. What’s more, I don’t sell games, but I lend them to my friends from time to time, and MS doesn’t want me to do that (well, once a month, but they are my games and I should do with them whatever I want).

    • Dylan

I’ll never support a console this anti-consumer and out of touch.

And I’m someone who purchased an Original Xbox and current 360, Live subscriber.

      • Steelahlive

I’ve owned over 700 shares of Microsoft stock at different points in my life, and I AM not supporting this decision. Its a bad call Ripley, A bad CALL! – I’ve stuck through it with em on previous blunders – but this one is so anti-consumer it’s not even funny – 10 years here now on live – defending the gold pricing, the RRoD (only because I’ve fixed some xbox’s and had just as many PS3 yellow lighters come to me more than 360s) an original first day purchaser as well. Zunes (WHICH I STILL think was a better device for Music than my ipod – it just tried to compete on all the other levels – it was such a cool small slick device) -I want a surface -but not to sure about that.

        • Dylan

“Nuke it from orbit! It’s the only way to be sure.”

“You’re not gonna sleaze your way outta this one Microsoft! I’m gonna nail ya right to the wall!”

Any other Aliens quotes relevant here? haha

          • Steelahlive

HAHAHAHAHAHAH – that’s funny – I have that engraved on my Ipad mini! – The nuke quote – LOL – glad someone was paying attention

          • Jeroenske

Well i don’t know how about “Game over man ! game over.”

    • Bennijin

I intend to stick with the 360 I currently have, but of the next gen consoles I would favour the PS4.

    • Steelahlive

Not buying either console. The games impressed on Xbox – but the kinect restriction and if I have a disc, not being able to lend it to a friend but for one time – that kills the xbox for me – and PS4 – Meh – their games didn’t sell me.

    • dibils

i will buy it, games impressed me and i cant wait to see what 1st party games do with the cloud in the future

      • Boss

yes cloud is future gaming blu-ray will be like a floppy disk in 5+ years

    • montysan

Make it require the disc if it’s been offline for more than 24h, and i’m probably in. Without that, there’s just too much to go wrong. With it, there are so many advantages when you are online that they’d have a real selling point.

    • Droideka75

Not on day one like the two previous, but along the road yes, when they are forced to update

    • macd82

no after more than ten years its ps4 for me but i will keep the 360

  • Realmusik Recordz

I can afford it. I will..no shame in my game. Ps4 lagged bad. Funny how everyone can look over that

    • Droideka75

      No it didn’t

    • Steelahlive

Funny how you’ve repeated it 100 times now and we all saw it – We got it – no one over looked it!

      • http://www.facebook.com/UrzuSix Paul Rolland

Give him the one thing to hold onto to, after all his console just screwed him over, if he wants to play more for the system, more for online play and not be able resell or lend the software he buys then let him

    • Dylan

The Xbox One gives the middle finger to everyone but the rich.

It is a console built for the publishers and made to bleed the middle/lower class dry.
This is a good of example of making the rich, richer than ever, while shafting everyone else.

      • Boss

Xbox trying to do Apple F#%K the poor

    • heyitsme

I could too, but I would rather just put more into my 360 collection of games that I OWN, I will most likely get both later on but I am not just thinking of myself, others are out there that can not even read this right now without going to their library or other local Wi-Fi spot to get online, and surprise they might just have a current game console at home without the net. This is not directed towards you MS in general, but Sony did stomp them by directly answering the questions of Microsofts fan base during their presentation.

    • Blood Washed

It’s funny none of the gaming sites mention that. It lagged and then it froze.

    • James Cox

You guys do know that those games were running on development kits. The devs said so in interviews. They are basically PC’s which resemble final hardware. So PS4 did not lag, and sound did not quit on Xbox one, because the games were not running on final hardware.

  • Realmusik Recordz

They had to turn the game off on assassin creed

    • Droideka75

      No they didn’t

    • Steelahlive

Stop making us REAL xbox Fans look like sheeple – supporting the console – because you like it OK we get it – Knocking the PS4 – to try and drown out the real concerns we as the consumers that care about such things – is a joke – you are acting like a child and epitomize the very essence of an internet troll……and NO i’m not mad brah? if that’s your comeback lol

    • MR-K

What just like how battlefield 4 didn’t start up on the Xbox one at the start? oh yeah you forgot about that one for starters both consoles are still being made I bet you code is being looked over and hot fixes every day are getting looked at and the games are still again in prototype mode so get off of your xbox high horse, think before saying,

      • mightywombat

It seemed more like Battlefield 4 was a video that they were having technical difficulties on showing. Don’t use that as an attack on Xbox One.

  • Realmusik Recordz

Down vote the truth..that’s another approach

    • Scarab83

Downvoting trolls is another way to go too.

    • Droideka75

      No it isn’t

    • Dylan

You ignore logic. What else are we supposed to do?

When Microsoft asks you to bend over, you say “Yes please. HALOZZZ. PS4 lagyz as hell even thouhg its 6 months early and was only onezz games out of 3. MS 4 lyfe”

  • Tyler Chester

I personally enjoyed the line-up Microsoft revealed but I find myself more attracted to the PS4. I’ve been a diehard fan of Xbox for about six years but I can’t justify their polices, price or Kinect. I don’t want to use something I rarely use now. I will miss Halo & Forza (Titanfall is coming to 360 and PC) but I can live without those titles.

    • heyitsme

I am a Xbox fan as well, I think the price is adequate for the hardware that is provided, I guessed before announcement to be in the 450 to 500 price range, but then again I also expected the PS4 to be 5 or 6 hundred. I won’t mind having the kinect 2.0 just in case there is something that comes out that I want to play, but I don’t agree with the requirement. I have the first one unplugged because it would not stop staring at me and nothing out now draws me in enough to plug it back in, plus who needs so many pictures of themselves jumping and squatting?

  • KillerByte

Can’t Wait to get Titanfall on the Xbox One with Dedicated Server Support

  • Tyler Chester

For folks claiming there’s a DRM for PS4, there isn’t one at this time. Mr. Tretton was referring to online passes, multiplayer verification and region-locking which most publishers decide not to enable. The PS4 does not require an internet connection making a DRM essentially pointless and impossible.

    • blahism

It does have DRM if you download a digital copy. Personally, i’d rather have lenient DRM than be stuck sticking games into my console. THis is 2013 right? the digital age? BD for Movies, HDD for games!

      • Dylan

        Why not have both?
Oh yeah, the PS3 and PS4 has both.

Xbox One doesn’t. Each disc is treated digitally.
        Talk about restrictive…

In 2013 we don’t want our games to be full priced rentals

      • Tyler Chester

Sure, but others may not view it that way. Not everybody has reliable internet speeds or connections in general.

  • James Cox

    PS4 is more powerful
    PS4 has no DRM
    PS4 has no mandatory online
PS4 has no mandatory spy cam
    PS4 is cheaper
PS4 has game rentals ——— Gamefly etc..
PS+ online has free games etc…
PS4 has great first party games and history keeping them going
Most games shown on Xbox will be on both
PS4 has fixed crappy triggers on controller
Remind me why I should get an Xbox again?

    • Red Tag Fiber

The Cloud if you think gaming companys are not going to use it; your out your mind. PS 4 even has it but not 300.00 servers or even close if you do not understand the cloud then you do understand that xbox has a stronger system by far . name a good first party game they got what GOD of Levers ,

    • dibils

Because XboxOne showed far more exclusive and better ones at that in the conferences… Sony same old(infamous and KZ)

    • EighteenCharacters

Why are you still here? There are plenty of PS4 websites for you to visit.

      • Darin

I count at least 4 people that are all PC and not going to buy a PS4 or Xbone. I have both. Always on Xbox, now all PS4. M$ can eat $#%#.

  • Realmusik Recordz

Yall stupid… Do u think Microsoft will just lie down with out a fight. Microsoft system is better hands down..all they have to do is make a few announcements to get it right.

    • Scarab83

Believe me, I wish you were right.

    • James Cox

      How is it better ?

    • Droideka75

      No we’re not

    • Steelahlive

No i believe they would pay money to have supporters like you – maybe you can get a job for them as a shield? NO – they’ll keep with the theme is what they’ll do of WELL THIS IS what WE think gamers want because “gamers” told us so…..really how many gamers told them – I WANT MY xbox to play cable TV for me….why would a gamer care about such nonsense? Their vision not ours. And way to win your audience …call em stupid…sounds like what that MS guy said, Backward compatibility is just…backwards!

    • heyitsme

No they won’t hence all the negative posts by the gaming fans!! You gotta fight,,, for your right,,, to parrr tay,
OFFLINE for more than a day!

They haven’t done anything after listening to all of us for the past 3 weeks what makes you think they’ll do something now? They said they were listening then did absolutely nothing. Quite frankly they could do something awesome but I’m past caring. Their arrogance and inability to listen to their long time, hard core fans has pushed me into the arms of Sony.

  • Realmusik Recordz

    Now…

    • heyitsme

Please stop with this nonsense, I am sure that people see that the new xbox is a great system with great games and peripherals, that is not the issue it is the fact that they nanny you with a 24 hour (less if roaming) restriction and require you to check in like you are a rebelling adolescent, is plain stupid. There is no trust from the company to the customer period, that is why many long time marriages just don’t work out although many hold onto the hope it will, if there is no trust in one it creates doubts in the other as well. All they would have to do is put a keycode on the GAME disc (even though they may be nearly blank placebos) along with a game and then attach it to your profile cloud and all and then reduce the check in time to once a month, so what if someone buys a game and then downloads it and then sells it and goes offline they have it for a month and then they are done and the disc is back onto the used game market. So what if they receive a slight cut, its better than having your main artery severed as they are trying to accomplish. Sad to say but Sony nailed it with their lingo during E3, they read what was being said by the XBOX community and replied to them and their own fans at the same time. However… I hold onto the hope that they will drop the constant DRM check-ins and also allow us to own physical copies of our purchased property, so I have one on reserve just in case, which I know is wrong because it also gives Microsoft false hope thinking that they have already sold a system, at the same time though I feel as if its justified if many many people drop their pre-orders just before launch, SONY put on a good show and we the community feel abused and punished because of the few thieves that are out there. There are also people out there that fear the Kinect, paranoia is horrible, mine will face the wall and be unplugged when the system is not in use, (this is much more abuse than I have put on any other system, but the always on Kinect is just a bad design flaw) but for me this is not a deal breaker, some argue that is an extra 100$ for something that they will not use, which is a valid arguement as well, but I myself would rather it come with the system rather than not know about needing it and then not being able to play a game (thank you N64 expansion bay), but at the same time it probably should not be REQUIRED and should be a 100$ OPTION to appease the money wise. I am sure there is more I did not address but I digress… Others feel free to chime in and help put the consumer/Microsoft relationship, (no one ask them to put a ring on it again please) back together and Vote this up so Major Larry Nelson can see this, as I have given him the best relationship advise as I possibly can (sometimes I wonder if he even notices me) and kept it civil except to you Realmusik Recordz you are annoying and missing the point and also do not understand how to reply! Thank you communtiy if you back me up and I will write more by request.

      • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

Excellent post and I completely agree. Next time though, please use paragraphs though please.

      • Jeroenske

Or…or how about NO ! how about no limitations whatsoever..like on eh i don’t know eh.. PS4.

  • http://www.facebook.com/UrzuSix Paul Rolland

Ps4 = Better hardware, Cheaper system, Cheaper online, better Free content online, No drm, no 24 online, better first party games, Better world wide support, BLUE LEDS!

    • Jorge Garza

      Online is the same price.

      • Darin

Xbox is 59.99 and PS is 49.99

        • Jorge Garza

          Sony said 5$ per month, 5×12= 60$.

          • Darin

Check amazon, sometime you can get it on sale

          • Jorge Garza

            That’s an stupid argument.

In that case, you also can get XBL gold cheaper on Amazon.

          • Darin

If you check Amazon it will show you the price

          • Jorge Garza

            Yup, you are actually right.

I misunderstood the 5$ per month PSN+ fee, my bad.

          • Dylan

Well you’re stupid for not checking the actual price you jerk.

It is 5 bucks per month.
But default it is 50 per year. OFFICIAL PRICE is 50 per year.

            http://us playstation com/psn/#psn-plus

          • Jorge Garza

Jerk? I think you really have anger problems. As I said, not need to be insulting.

          • wrestlefan01

you can also get it cheaper on black friday.i know it seems like every year they have 3 months of gold for like 9 bucks on black friday.

          • Bizarro J

Same with Xbox Live, so there is no difference. I’ve never paid more than $45 for an annual subscription. (pre-ordering both a PS3 & X1)

          • Dylan

That is if you pay monthly.
Pay yearly and its 50 dollars.
            XBL is 60.

          • Jorge Garza

No, that’s per month on a year subscription.

          • Dylan

            You’re an idiot.

            http://us playstation com/psn/#psn-plus

          • Jorge Garza

            No need to be insulting.

    • Dennis Crosby

I hope you realize that the “free content” only works if you pay for playstation plus and when you stop paying for it it all goes alway

      • http://www.facebook.com/UrzuSix Paul Rolland

Yup been a member of both PS+ and Gold for ages, Well my gold has run out @@, But my PS+ is well worth it just for the Vita games I now own lol

  • Darin

Amazon Best Sellers. 10 of the TOP 20 are all PS4!

    • blahism

Not to point out the obvious, but maybe that’s because the Xbox One “Day One” already sold out on Amazon..
I’m not buying either at this point. Nothing exciting about PS4 and the games I do look forward to will be on PC.

      • Dylan

That doesn’t affect pre-orders. You can still order the Xbox One. That has nothing to do with anything.

The PS4 is just outselling it in a landslide, and is number 1 in the video game department.

      • Darin

Could be. PS4 is number 1

        Last of us number 3

        DUALSHOCK 4 Controller 4

        Watch Dogs for PS4 6

        PlayStation 4 Camera number 9

Killzone: Shadow Fall (PlayStation 4) 10

        Sony Playstation Network Card – $20 [… 11

        Battlefield 4 FOR PS4 12

inFAMOUS: Second Son (PlayStation 4) 13

        Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix – Limited… 14

I would say Amazon getting more traffic for PS4

  • Daryl Aiken

Pre-ordered xbox one today. Great E3 show Microsoft. Can’t wait until November.

    • Daryl Aiken

      Who down votes a pre-order?

      • http://www.facebook.com/UrzuSix Paul Rolland

Hope you enjoy your it ^_^ , personally they just haven’t shown me anything I want yet apart from Dead rising 3

        • dibils

really, for me i loved these (only taking into account exclusives)

          Dead Rising 3
          Forza Motorsport 5
Ryse Son of Rome – they made it look only QTE but learning more it actually isnt
          Quantum Break*
          Sunset Overdrive
          Titanfall*
          Project Spark

          *my most anticipated

          • http://www.facebook.com/UrzuSix Paul Rolland

Titan fall I will get for pc, I just prefer FPS games on the pc now @.@,The reason I will get a ps4 is becuase I love jprgs like disgeae and the Tales of games, In fact it was dead rising and tales of vesperia that I brought a 360 for. Halo 4 was a big let down for me, it lost what made Halo awesome, the openworld-ness @@, uatum break looks awesome, but I cant Pay what they are asking for in a console that wont let me lend my games, or have most of the features in the UK

          • http://www.facebook.com/UrzuSix Paul Rolland

The xbox one will have some awesome games, but so will the PS4, Xbox just need to invest in their first party studios, at one time they had the best studios, Bungie, Nintendos 90s power house Rare, the uber creative Oddworld and Former FF creators Mistwalker. all of which have been wasted under Microsoft or left

      • jlh

The trolls who have infested this blog. Don’t let it bother you.

I’ve also preordered the system and some games (Ryse, Fifa, Forza & Dead Rising) and I’m really looking forward to November. This was the best E3 for games that I can remember.

  • Daryl Aiken

On Amazon it’s all xbox one in the top sales. Everyone pre-ordering xbox one at eb games this morning.

  • Robert Distefano

You guys need to change your policies!

    • Realmusik Recordz

      They will

  • Realmusik Recordz

And will be on sale for black Friday and christmas

  • slider2nl

The whole DRM for PS4 is pulles out proportion,

The PS4 works just like the PS3 and the Xbox 360 today.
Third parties developer can choose if they want to use codes or online passes or some kind of registration form to lock you in there DRM system. They are doing this for years now. this wil be also the case for PS4. For the Xbox One same Story.

But here are the main difrences Xbox One needs a online check to keep you playing and a always online connection to update ect.. and you are forced to have a kinect becuase without one your xbox becomes nothing then a 500 dollar gadget.. cant sell your games on ebay, or rent them or loan them to friends (only once and friend must be in your list for 30 days) cost 499,- dollars

The PS4 doesnt have to check in every 24 hour and you can play offline and you arent forced to use the eyetoy and no need to install a full game on a 500 hdd drive. can rent games and sell them online and loan it to friends. cost 399,- dollars

Also most of the games are coming out on both systems.

    • Rumba Lumba

Also, you’ll have to stick with those for the next 6-8 years. Yep. Big difference.

    • Dylan

Difference is on the Xbox One every game is subjected to the DRM.
      Every game requires internet.
Every game is blocked from sharing.
And only some games you can gain permission to trade ONCE.
Every game shuts down when the Microsoft servers do.
And Every game is a rental.

None of that is on the PS4. There’s choice. Choice for the consumer and choice for each publisher. Like it should be.

      • willhe

where does it say you trade a ONCE

        Qoute:

Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.

          • willhe

give = give. what they are saying is if you want to give the game away whats the problem with that?

        • Willy Chris Hui

It’s even worse than you stated, this is practically a license transfer for a single game that can only be done once per game, until one sells it to any licensed retailer I guess.
But I don’t think it’s comepletely right to say that you can’t lend games at all. The game-sharing is only for 10 “family members”, so let’s see how exactly that will work out.

  • Dennis Crosby

Hope everyone realize that ms has 5 more months to prove why the have a better system.sony has pretty much shown all of there cards and ms hasn’t even scratched the surface.

    • http://www.facebook.com/UrzuSix Paul Rolland

      How so?

  • Major Ouch

I love the XBox and don’t even mind the higher price tag (you get what you pay for)…but the new DRM policies might be the deal breaker for me….Major Nelson: +1 on changing the DRM? A lot of my friends expressed the same intention to jump off XBox if that DRM gets put into effect! Not being able to borrow games from friends? Not being able to rent games? Come on MS… Please give me a chance to want your system… And I am (was?) an XBox fanboy since the XBox 1 (do not confuse with XBox One ;) )…

    • http://www.facebook.com/UrzuSix Paul Rolland

if your a fanboy I guess you never played ps3 or wii? then get yourself a Ps3 and Wii, there super cheap now, Get yourself some awesome gaming and wait on the next gen =3

      • Major Ouch

Got the wii…collecting dust I’m afraid…games just don’t make the cut for me. Guilty on the PS3!

        • http://www.facebook.com/UrzuSix Paul Rolland

You should get a ps3, there is some really good games, only took 4 years of its life span :P

  • wrestlefan01

i reallly want to own an xbox one.for i love the xbox controllers and the xbox live.but i will not buy a system that will not allow me to let friends borrow games or allow me to borrow games.i will not own a system thats rendered useless if something comes up and i cant pay my internet bill or it has technical difficulties for a few days.

  • http://www.facebook.com/UrzuSix Paul Rolland

Love the fact that xbox live will be charging you to use Skype on xbox for party chat etc, where Skype is free on ps4, vita and PC,

    • slider2nl

they dont charge you for the service they extended it so you can video chat with more then 1 person, now without a fee you can only video chat 1 on 1

    • Willy Chris Hui

He’s talking about Xbox Live Gold, but for your information one needs PS+ to play online now.

      • http://www.facebook.com/UrzuSix Paul Rolland

Yeah but you get more and its cheaper on Ps+

        • Willy Chris Hui

By July we’ll be getting 3 games, and I can get Live for 30-40$ :P

  • Daniel Wootan

Usually never post comments, but (I’m not mad) I’m very disappointed. Like others I have had Xbox and own Xbox 360. My history with Xbox spans at least ten years but owning some pc games and having to deal with steam which is the same thing Xbox is doing with DMR, makes me sad because now I will be joining the PlayStation family. Microsoft if you do not change these policies, well we had a great run.

  • Realmusik Recordz

Major Nelson reads his blog and will do his best to make them disappear unless it’s out of his league

  • heyitsme

EVERYONE that visit here please take the time to read my previous post it is long but I hope you enjoy it and believe that it could help Microsoft.

    • Realmusik Recordz

I read and you are right! I’m with you 100 percent. Repost that so major can see ..lol

    • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

Excellent post, you just forgot the paragraphs bud. I completely agree, for me at least, this boils down to game ownership for me more than anything. I never buy used or trade or rent games but I respect the rights of people to do so. Again, for me this is about actually owning the games we buy.

MS could have given me Mech Assault 2, Shenmue 3, Phantasy Star Online 2, or any other exclusive it wouldn’t matter. I’m a collector who enjoys busting out retro systems decades after the lifespan of the console. What happens to my games when the servers aren’t up to get title updates? What happens when our Hardware fails? More importantly what is up with game title updates not being saved to our hard drives and instead to a temporary cache?

As we stand right now, our XBLA titles on 360, all our DLC isn’t going to outlast the lifespan of our console and the lifespan of the servers since Microsoft fucked up and didn’t address the important of game title updates.. In case anyone here doesn’t know, without them, our gamesaves (if created after the updates) and our DLC doesn’t work without them.

Don’t believe me, try clearing your cache, and popping in Fallout 3 or RE5 Gold Edition without connecting to the internet.. The DLC doesn’t even show up without a title update.

Many gamers don’t even see the importance of this issue..

      • Jedi Dna

The DLC may not show up, but you STILL can play the main game!!
The reason I bought a 360 is the games and I CAN accept to lose the DLC or even the XBLA titles, but I CAN’T ACCEPT to lose the games I paid $60 for!!!
In 30 years for now I’ll still be able to play Halo 3, but Halo 5 I wont!

Microsoft don’t listen to their customers anymore! But we aren’t that out of luck! Someone else did!!
        Bye MS!
        Hi Sony!

        • PSN_IS_GARBAGE

          Hey Jedi,
Yeah I know but we can only play the main game unpatched. For most of us, that would mean starting over completely since our saves will no longer function.
And I agree… after hearing Jack Tretton address Sony’s anti restriction policy…. it’s HELLO SONY for me too!

  • DeviousScissors

When the worst company in america says they think you’re wrong about used sales, might be time to reconsider.

    http://www eurogamer net/articles/2013-06-12-ea-we-dont-have-a-problem-with-second-hand-sales-as-they-are-today

    • Willy Chris Hui

Well, the One supports used games so that’s not really the issue here. People don’t like it being forced to connect to the internet at least every 24h to play games.

      • DeviousScissors

It does not support used games ‘as they are today’.

        • Willy Chris Hui

Yes, reselling games is only possible at licensed retailers.

          • DeviousScissors

So we are agreed, that is not the way things work presently. Presently you can resell ANY game to ANYONE.

Gamers Without Internet Can Stick With Xbox 360, Says Microsoft

    google it.

    • Kieran Tsao

      That is hilarious

They dont realize the other option is a PS4 for that. Oh MS what are you doing..

  • wrestlefan01

“”Fortunately we have a product for people who aren’t able to get
some form of connectivity; it’s called Xbox 360,” said Mattrick.

“If you have zero access to the Internet, that is an offline device.”

this is what microsoft thinks of their costumers

    • Bennijin

What’s wrong with costumers? A little bit of dressup never hurt anyone.

      • Does Not Equal

        Beat me to it, dammit.

    • John

Problem is that many things still require online connectivity on the Xbox 360. Especially because many devs have the knack to release buggy software that requires patches nowadays. Microsoft has many things backwards. I think Don Mattrick has had some kind of stroke or something and isn’t seeing things clearly anymore. It’s such a radical change for Xbox, truly unbelievable.

  • Jedi Dna

Microsoft: You don’t know what you want!!! You will want what we tell you to want!!! You need us and we don’t need you!!!! We will tell you how to spend your money!!!
Sony: We hearded you! You want that so thats what you gonna get it!! We respect you and want you as a customer!!

Because of this small diference in atitude I’m going with Sony. And this is comming from a former Xbox supporter!!!
PS4 IS THE WAY TO GO!!!!! BYE BYE MICROSOFT

  • http://www.timacheson.com/ Tim Acheson

Master plan for XB1 to annihilate PS4 early on — Microsoft must do both of these things:

    (1) Make Kinect optional, and thus drop basic price by at least £120!

    (2) Relax the 24 hour offline limit, at the very least for consoles which have never connected. Make it 6 months and defeat the critics overnight.

Please, I humbly beg you, pass it on to Xbox management, who must be reading the tech and gaming community reactions to E3 just as I am.

  • TheRickshaw

Stay the course guys. *I want* super futuristic technology in my living room. Real, new, tech, not just to play games about the techno future. I want to talk to my console, have it track me like a real mech would have to. I want to exercise, play, relax, communicate like it’s the 21st century. You guys are bringing so much to life here.
The only reason in the ultra tech world of gaming that the vocal minority would reject all this tech, practically beyond comprehension, is exactly that, they can’t comprehend where it’s all going and the logical reasons why.
I am amazed at the tone, it sounds like core gamers (these ‘first responders’) are the new luddites.
Xbox ultimately has the right stuff for the future. Please don’t change a thing.

    • ReadTheArticlePlz

I have no objection to future tech. I have a problem with future tech that I might not want being forced on me when it could have easily been an optional deal. Want to download your games? Thats cool, they could have offered a deal where if you d/l the game you have different drm than if you have a disk. Want to have kinect? Cool, make it an option but not required. Do you have broadband? You do, awesome, you can take advantage of extra features that those without it cannot. MS could have made this much easier on themselves by allowing many of the forced “features” of this box to be optional. If there was the option of using the disk in the drive as drm, and thus allowing loaning, renting, guaranteed resale, etc., made kinect optional, and made an internet connection required only if you wanted to play online I would have no problems with it. My problem is they took features that should have been optional and made them required or “essential”.

      • TheRickshaw

Right, “essential”, pertaining to the essence of something. All of these things are inextricable pieces of the experience they are delivering. To quote the master, “Do, or do not. There is no try.”.

        • ReadTheArticlePlz

Are they now? How much kinect did you see during that e3 presentation? Kinect was used for nothing more than a few voice commands. Yes, I can totally see what that kinect must be included with every system and be plugged in at all times.

          • TheRickshaw

Yes it would seem they deem them essential to the experience, hence the requirement. Its use goes far beyond the handful of demos we saw on stage. Could it be left out entirely, technically, sure. Let it be unplugged occasionally, maybe. But again I would quote Yoda. “Do, or do not.”

Just think of it this way. They were nice enough to make the Kinect with a tether to your system so you can position each piece as needed. If there were no such need, they might have put it in the chassis, completely integrated. Either way, that’s what they are making and selling, a completely integrated system.

      • montysan

I agree, some of it could be great and better than before, but there’s no explanation as to why a 24 offline limit is needed. Download a game on the 360, and it’ll work offline indefinitely on that machine, so why can’t the xbox one do the same?

    • Telltales

Xbox One technology is awesome. The 24 hour always on and multitudes of restrictions are absolutely a deal breaker for many many people. And this is what’s going to bring the Xbox One sales down to it’s knees after the initial release weeks. They’re just shooting themselves in the foot, and it’s sad to see Microsoft so blind and idiotic about it.

  • Willy Chris Hui

    Dear Microsoft,
    .
I have been a proud Xbox owner since 2001, the Xbox has guided me through life and never failed to entertain me. From Halo CE to Halo 4, from Fable to Fable 3, from Gears to Gears 3, I really enjoyed being part of the Xbox family. This E3 you showed us what potential the Xbox One has, I don’t know what people are thinking when they say Sony’s conference was better but I guess that’s just a matter of opinion.
    .
However, these policies are tearing this family into pieces. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against these policies for they do not affect me in a negative way, the contrary actually, but the fact that you are alienating a group of passionate offline gamers is questionable at best, and very wrong at worst. These policies will affect those who do not have an internet access at all, and those whose internet connection is not fast enough to enjoy those many benefits.
    .
Fellow gamers, the Xbox One does give us the possibility to lend games digitally, and apparantely only for 10 “family members” but I do not think Microsoft will be able enforce this, it will probably be like the Xbox Live Gold Membership. Those who do not have a stable and fast internet connection can still borrow the actual disc to install the game.
    .
So this is not the problem. But forcing everybody to connect to the internet 24h is too much to ask for, Microsoft. People, if one can use smartphones to enable internet access for the One, then only a few will have problems when something is wrong with the internet. Still, what of those who live in rural areas? If they don’t have a normal access to the internet I doubt they have smartphones with cellular internet access.
    .
The reason why Microsoft is doing this is because of the ability to play games without the actual disc. This is why you can’t lend games, rent games, resell games at whatever retailer you want. This is why Microsoft needs a connection every 24h, to make sure you can’t play a sold game longer than 24h. Why are you doing this, Microsoft?
    .
I truly believe, unlike many many others, you mean well, but this is unacceptable, a deal-breaker for so many, even if it wouldn’t affect them. I believe in your vision, but there are other ways to make it come true. Removing mandatory installation would fix it all, only give us the choice to install the game. Many, many gamers would appreciate it, many would actually consider getting the Xbox One. This is nothing big I am asking for, it is actually something many gamers expect from a gaming console.
    .
No matter the outcome, I will still buy the One. But it saddens me to see so many disappointed gamers leaving the family. Please, share your concerns on the policies in a polite way. Share it with anybody who could help, Microsoftsmen in Twitter, Facebook and so on. People from other consoles, please help us, too. We need the support! Together as gamers we could make it happen, maybe Microsoft will change the policies in our favor after this.
    .

    • kitron

Imagine there was no optical drive in the xboxone.

    • montysan

I can’t see why the 24h limit is for game discs, as it also seems to apply to full downloads as well. Downloads on the 360 work offline, as the download is tied to your machine, so what’s the difference. Discs could come with a code, which is effectively a download code, but you download the data from the disc. So then discs are the same as a download, so again, why a 24h offline limit?

      • Willy Chris Hui

Look, if you can play games without the disc and without the 24h check then one could simply buy a game, install it and return it or sell it but still be able to play the game even if he doesn’t own it anymore.
        .
They want to force us to the digital way of gaming, and as long discs are on the market and mandatory installations exist the 24h check will, too. When installing a disc it is tied to your account, you actually get a Games-on-Demand version of the game, meaning you can access it on any Xbox. Microsoft even made it better and allowed sharing with 10 Xbox Live users.
        .
The difference on Xbox 360 is that to play a game you bought physically you always need the actual disc, if they give us the OPTION to install games many of our problems with the One would be solved.
        .

        • montysan

Like you said, when installing it is tied to your account. How do they do that if there isn’t a code in the box? So the game is tied to your account, the code has been used, and if someone else tried to install the game, the code wouldn’t work. There is no need for a 24 hour check for this. If you buy a prepaid code for a game on the 360, you have to be online to redeem it, but not to play it again, and it won’t work of someone has already redeemed it.

For resale etc, they just have to make you unregister the code online, which would also ensure you’ve deleted the game.

What if you only buy games online and never have a disc, then it should be the same as the 360.

Apologies if I’m missing something here, but I don’t see it. I’m looking forward to not having to swap discs etc, but can’t see the need for this 24h check. There’s no official explanation that I’ve een as to why exactly there is a 24 hour check.

          • Willy Chris Hui

The Xbox 360 can distinguish between different discs, even if they may be the same game. This would make a non-code registration possible.

          • montysan

Maybe, but I don’t think they’re different normally, as it makes them expensive to produce. You might be right though. Either way, with registration, you can have offline play.
