Head over to their site if you want to sign up.

Xbox 360 By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Willy Chris Hui

I really wonder if this game will be any fun. I’ll definitely give it a try!

  • GEARS FREAK

    Thanks, signed up :)

  • Michele

    thanks :)

  • fried_egg

i wanted a tank game, but one like “tokyo wars”
hey, who is going to win the “kin-one” marketing award for efforts to destroy IP this year?

  • Ken Sudberry

    thank you sir

  • tabicat

    Tanks a lot, Major!

  • mcmax3000

Signed up a few days ago. This has always looked interesting to me, but I don’t really play PC games, so I’ve never checked it out before.

Looking forward to trying it out on 360.

  • Riddick Snipes

Off the subject for major or anyone but does someone know if forza 5 is the only game announced to be in 1080p/60fps. Are there others. I’ve heard that their not pushing devs to go for 1080p. Its weird how when the 360 was announced all u heard was 720p and that devs had to use that res, but for the one no 1080p flaunting. I think 1080p/60fps should be the standard on the one. Shouldn’t be 2 hard if its 6-8 times more powerful. But then again when u reserve 3 of 8 gigs of ram to run apps like skype and sharing and all that stuff I won’t use, I guess I can only hope.

    • Chuck Ankenbauer

My understanding in reading online news post etc etc… all games for the Xbox One will be 1080p/60 fps… now if that’s true I don’t know…but it’s on the internet, it has to be true…right. ;)

      • heyitsme

        I’m a French model!

    • GmailIsDown

talking about forza 5, anyone know if we’ll need to buy completely new sets of wireless racing wheel as the 360 wireless technology is different than the One uses? those things can be pricey.

      • Jordan Mcdonald

they are actually pretty cheap on the 360, but thats coz they suck.

    • dante

xboxone also have esram all 167gb is for the gpu and the 7790 is capable of 1080p/50 fps go to youtube and put 7790v7850 u will see

  • Player No 13

Tank you. Tank you very much.

  • Chuck Ankenbauer

BF4 on the one will be 1080p/60fps…I asked the developer at E3 myself… unfortunately, the 360 version will still be 720p.

  • Riddick Snipes

Assumptions have let us down lately.

    • HerrPie

It’d be shocking if it wasn’t running at 1080p. No surprise with the 360 version as that’s the limitation for all 360 games.

  • Herbert Waller

    Cool, I just registered

  • Ken

It won’t because the Xbox One uses up 3GB Ram for Operating system. That leaves 5GB for games. My guess is BF4 in 1080p at 60 FPS is around 2-3GB of RAM usage. So, If they did have 1080p 60FPS, it’s going to make the console REALLY work hard. I sense another year of RROD’s!!!

    PS4 pre-ordered with BF4

    • HerrPie

Well when it was shown on the Microsoft show it was running at 60fps. So unless they had a 720p feed on it you’re off on that sense.

      • Ken

Xbox ONE was using High End PC’s at E3.. There is even a picture of a guy with one of the cabinets open on a XBOX ONE game booth.

        • Willy Chris Hui

One can’t just simply run a game programmed for a console with a modified AMD-GPU on a computer with an Nvidia-GPU. It’s probably running an emulator, this is nothing special really. Demos in 2005 of the 360 ran on Macs…

        • jlh

All of the games at E3 were running off development hardware and that means computers. There was no final hardware there (well except for Nintendo) and that’s the way it has always been. The early 360 development kits were top of the line G5s which the final 360 hardware out performed. So any machine that the developers are running their Xbox One engines off of right now will have comparable specs to the final hardware.

      • Ken

Look up Xbox One Open Cabinet under images and you will see, that they didn’t even use Xbox One’s at all.

        • HerrPie

Seen it before, it’s nothing new that when a new console is released they’ll use a dev kit to demo before it’s released so there aren’t any live models on the show floor that run the risk of being stolen.

It is sort of shocking that they were using an Nvidia card though. :D

          • Ken

Ya, since the Xbox ONE will be using something WAYYYYY lower end than that..

          • HerrPie

You’ve also gotta remember that hardware for consoles tends to be much more efficient. Look at what the 360 is running, if you put that in a pc there’s no way you’d manage to play BF3 at the rate that it does.

          • Ken

ummm.. that’s because the games for console are decompressed to be able to handle the hardware…

        • usrev

the ram has nothing to do with FPS unless they run out, which I doubt they will because 5gb free. not defending xbone, just saying your reasoning are ridiculous

all that said the gpu of the ps4 is much better, so will probably either look better or run smoother

          • Ken

Look for the PS4 stress test video. 1 Million polygon test. He dropped 1 Million polygons at once from the sky and it didn’t even affect the Frame rate at all.

          • HerrPie

Anyways, this is cutting into my Skyrim time so I’m off. :)

          • usrev

the stress test is irrelevant to the discussion. RAM doesn’t work like that, RAM doesn’t effect fps at all unless you run out (in which case the game will use the MUCH MUCH MUCH slower hard drive cache, which would bring the whole system to a crawl, we are talking 1 frame per minute style crawl.

most games ON PC use 4gb or ram or less, the xbone has 5gb free to developers and it’s a console so it can be optimized well. the only question is if the cpu/gpu can run it anywhere near as well as what was shown at e3.

          • TheDestinyUprising Gamez

5GB of ram is still plenty enough for games, I have a 8GB PC but Windows 7 uses around 3GB up and games still run with no lag

        • TheDestinyUprising Gamez

it is a dev kit Xbox One called the Durango

    • Christian S.

2GB is plenty for BF3 on PC. I doubt it would be any different for BF4.

  • usrev

never liked world of tanks, I was in the beta for pc.

the gist of the game is you customize one of many tanks, get into a match, die, then twiddle your thumbs waiting till the match to end. so it’s basically like search and destroy with tanks. no respawns kills the fun, slow progression of getting new “tiered” tanks kills if for people who don’t have a lot of time.

the only real brightside of the game is it’s free.

    • AAGoldsmith

If you play with tactics and skill you don’t just die right away. Also you can leave the battle as soon as you die, and enter a different abttle on a different tank. Are you sure you have played this?

  • GMUPatriots

Thanks Major! I know it’s probably been a tough week for you. Still love my XBox 360 and will always be a fan of you and Team Dysfunction.

    • Dylan

I may strongly, strongly dislike the Xbox One,

But I’ll never dislike the Major. He’s always seemingly been a good guy. I have a feeling he must have been kept in the dark about all these policies until after the reveal.

I’ll always love the Xbox 360 as well. I fought through many RROD’s, but the console has always been good to me, many awesome memories I’ve had with it.

      • Droideka75

At least you have a choice, I will not even have the ability to buy or import one as the games will not work on my country. It’s ps4 or nothing so it’s not even my decision. Even that they took from us…

        • Dylan

          True.
At least it wasn’t Xbox One or nothing right?

I feel ya though. Region locking is really backwards thinking, why have it if you can’t do a world-wide launch?

There are English speakers in many countries that prefer the original audio of games.
Why can’t they import the English version!?
That’s really stupid and expect piracy because of it..

          • heyitsme

Apparently America is the future, and everyone on their online poll said yes we have internet.

          • Droideka75

Lol, haven’t thought about if it was the other way around. Actually now that you mention it I’m actually glad that it isn’t the other way around.

As for localization Portugal never had it for Xbox 360 so we always play in English, so it’s even more intriguing as they wouldn’t have to do a thing… It’s coming out in Spain and its very easy to import stuff from there as its very close but with live restrictions that is not an option… We could create a fake account probably but I don’t think I’m going to bother risking it.
(I actually have a us fake account to get stuff not available in Europe)

Sony in the other hand always showed love for the country with day one launches, voice localization AND original English in the games, but we are a playstation nation so…

Xbox has many followers despite no love from Microsoft but I think that’s over now. I was one of them and responsible for a lot of new Xbox gamers when I showed how much better the online service was but all my work is now undone cause everybody is going back to Sony myself included…

  • Sean Mccoy

will there be forza motorsports 5 for xbox 360

    • Does Not Equal

There will be a World of Tanks for Xbox 360, yes.

      • Sean Mccoy

I said forza motorsports 5 for xbox 360

        • Does Not Equal

Yes, but this blog post is for World of Tanks for Xbox 360′s beta. It even says so at the top.

    • TheDestinyUprising Gamez

Forza Motorsport 5 is only on the Xbox One

  • Robtroy

Don’t get me wrong all the new xbox games on display at E3 blew me away as they always do, and throughout the whole of E3 I had tonnes of unanswered questions on a lot of issues I’ve even seen a statement from one of the top dogs at Microsoft saying theis be the last console u ever buy sound great but very unbelievable, reason I say that is for the 360 I’ve had 3 possible 4 different console just to be able to upgrade were as it was faults for old system or lack of larger hard drive space which MS love increasing to try get 1 over on Sony, The cloud thing seems great but there a lot of talk of downloading games to your hard drive and the cloud so how do we free up space on our hard drive when we have huge library of game cause going with my 360 games to date 2 terabyte wouldn’t be enough, I adjust want to know how the cloud work i hope it’s when aren’t playing your oldergames u can transfer them from your hard drive to cloud to free up space for more games that would be great, only then would 500 GB would be enough please can someone enlighten me thanks. Last niggle of the day hopefully, if Microsoft do bring an upgraded version of the console out in 1 or 2 years time as they do am I going to be able to offload my old console easily to Microsoft or store retailer so I don’t have have to pay top dollar for an upgrade And can put my mind at ease that il get a discount from my old device, I love my upgraded version and always keep stuff up to date but I don’t want left with a cheep piece of plastic that’s works brilliantly sitting in corner collecting dust not getting used

    • Does Not Equal

I hope you get into the beta, too.

      • Robtroy

Beta sounds great but as this point in time I’m advancing and I’m focused solely on next GEN hopefully with xbox one but I need whole lot more clarity so I don’t jump ship to garbage playstation as for world of tank excellent looking game for I think there introducing it a little late because Microsoft have always had the ability to bring us pc games, and they have left us hanging nearly 8 friggin years. I am split just now on next GEN but if I’m still with xbox 1 then yeah I be right up for world of tanks friggin yeah means I don’t have to wait till a new Cod brings tanks back into the fold I just get tank on tank action out my head.

    • heyitsme

I’m assuming that English is not your first language, which there is nothing wrong with, but I have read every one of your posts and you have some really good questions that are really hard to take out of your statements. First I would like to tell you to use the parental blocks so your child does not mess anything else up. I know that is a restriction and they will not like it but that is a responsibility of the parent not a corporation (see what I did there?).

You should have no problem with upgrading your system but at the current price of them (especially for you) I woud hope that you are not going to buy one every 1-2 years. I know right now it seems as if Microsoft is trying to toss many of their loyal customers, but they can still change things they have done wrong.

If you could spread your questions out and make them easier to single out it would be alot better for anyone who may know the answers to let you know. As of right now there are not a whole lot of answers out there and they keep feeding us with more questions or unneeded info rather than what people want to know. Please keep trying though because you do have great questions that I would like to know the answers to as well, all you have to do now is put them into question form and ending each one with one of these (?). Cheers

      • Robtroy

Your right with the parent control but my kid did I say was un-avoidable and in my eyes there was nothing wrong what she did she was helping other out as she had finished with the game she was using, and not going into to much detail EA felt they were loosing money even know they put methods in games these days to rob us blind dont know if you play it FIFA UT but that’s the worse case scenario. Anyway enough with all that what I’ve been doing lately is sort of spamming some messages don’t know if I’m in right place or wrong but seems like there’s a lot in these blogs doing the same and everyone is looking for answers. while Microsoft have locked them self away in an office at the moment, as soon as they get out and explain more clearly it’ll put us hardcore gamer that have dedicated many years to Microsoft minds at rest and we can get on with this next GEN console and gaming again, as money ain’t the issue as would have spent £700 on a new console, as for used games I used to do but that ain’t bothering me this time around was planning to keep my games anyway. But for these 24 hr checked they may as well stick a tag round round my ankles what’s wrong with every week or every month or only when multiplayer games are taking place give us a little breathing space there been tonnes of times I’ve been disconnected and that been days at a time. I bet we’ll go into same scenario as the pc industry we will get charged more for games and we’ll need to pay for our yearly gold subscription were as pc owner only need there Internet connection it just feels like they think they own us Thinking we’ve no we’re to turn and come release of PS4 their going to get shock to the system.

  • TheDestinyUprising Gamez

it isn’t accepting my gamertag says
Consists only of the following characters A-Z a-z 0-9 and space

  • TheDestinyUprising Gamez

  • TheDestinyUprising Gamez

If you have a space in your gamertag you can’t join the beta because you refuses to let you join

    • Does Not Equal

Good thing you said it three times, else we might not have understood.

      • ungeheier

        Me too.

      • TheDestinyUprising Gamez

        Sorry :)

    • Austin

      worked fine for me

    • EighteenCharacters

      Worked fine for me. Strange.

    • Colorfulchew

      Worked fine .here

  • jlh

I’m going to sign up for this but even though from past experience on the pc I know I’m going to suck at the game. The only way that I will ever be good at WoT is if they create a super, super easy mode.

  • james hicks

ok so i signed up for the beta on monday, when do we actually get to play this?

    • disqus_eUPQtFSCTG

prolly this wed when xbox dashboard updates

      • james hicks

i was under the impression that it had nothing to do with the dashboard, and even after it updates it wont be on there, they send an email with a code i have to redeem, right?

        • disqus_eUPQtFSCTG

well not the dashboard like you think it has to do with the cert every XBLA game has to go thro it even betas, demos you name it anything that has to with downloading something off the dash but yes they will give you a code something like that

  • TheDahaka

This game actually looks pretty cool.

  • disqus_eUPQtFSCTG

if its not letting you sign up use this link instead http://worldoftanks com/en/news/19/wargaming-reveals-world-tanks-xbox-360-edition/

  • Dylan

Major, will you need Xbox Live Gold to play future free to play games?

Or will it be up to the publisher?

    • Dennis Crosby

im sure you wont be able to because you need xbox live gold to play online and i thought it was weird that sony said they will leave it up to the publisher when they showed off you had to pay to play online also

      • Dylan

What Publisher in the right mind would want to be behind a paywall for a F2P game?
Sony has that policy, I assume because they don’t want to restrict a publisher in how they make or distribute a game

Its FREE. The more players they have, the better for them.

That’s why 3 F2P games have already announced they won’t be behind the PS+ price point.

  • Nate Welles

Your interview with Angry Joe, you arrogant son of a flip

    • Joe

Angry Joe kept interrupting rudely and had this urge to argue rather than let Major answer the questions. Ask the question, let Microsoft reps answer the way they want, then let the viewers decide. Joe let his passion/frustration of DRM show through. That’s what that was

      • Nate Welles

Wow. And that’s the exact mentality you have if you wish for everyone to walk over you in life. Major wasn’t even taking it seriously and was dodging all the IMPORTANT questions.

You seriously need to re-watch that video if you think it was Joe interrupting all the time. Jesus, you MS defenders can not see even one thing wrong with what MS is doing with the xbox one.

        • Joe

Why are you getting so worked up? Is that all you can do is kick and scream like a child just call because I have an opinion?

        • Macy Slator

Nate man, I do feel bad watching Major. How do you reply to questions that have no answers. that takes some great BS’ing. Angry Joe did a great job, kept his cool.

      • heyitsme

Plus Joe said himself he is not an interviewer, if you watch his stuff, most the time he is just yelling at his own camera. Due to the short amount of time available he was trying to get in as many questions as possible as well, which he said himself if you watched until the end.

      • Gary Brooks

Angry Joe was nervous but did a great job. He was being an advocate for gamers. Much nicer than just hearing the press release parroted.

      • Macy Slator

Any question regarding DRM / Game authentication results in talking about the “future”, “the cloud”, “digital”, “infrastructure”, “family share”. I know he’s in fear of losing his job, but c’mon, we all can’t really fall for that BS. If authentication is taken away, Xbox One would sell tons

        • heyitsme

When do you think they will announce their stationary hover car that needs to be refueled constantly??

      • Dylan

He just seemed nervous to me, not exactly confrontational.
When he felt Nelson wasn’t going to answer something, he went to the next question.

He’s not a journalist, he’s said that. Just a dude with a youtube channel.
Major was dodgy, sure, but at least he gave the interview, and I thought handled it well.

    • heyitsme

I thought they both did fine, as pressed for time as they were. The only new information I got though was that you can have more than 1000 friends (I would never add that many) which is a good thing. I did also learn that the Microsoft employees are being kept on a choke collar for these interviews (surprised that Mattrick wasn’t shocked). They already have to worry about thier jobs, so I can understand why they can not do those on the spot interviews like that, and I do respect Major Nelson for doing it. That being said it still boggles my mind why there are no answers to the publics questions here on the forums, and I’m not talking about where are achievements headed, game betas and things like that, but the ones that really matter to gamers everywhere that are concerned if they are going to have to switch to PS4 or not do to MS restrictions.

      • jlh

What questions haven’t been answered? It seems like the questions most of the public had (connectivity, used games, game trading) have been answered but people just don’t like the answers they were given.

        • heyitsme

If I want to go to a friends house that is able to play X1 does my system have to be on or can it be off and if it is a far away friend and I am going to be there for a weekend or even a week how do I run a check on my system so I can play at said house? If there is a 500 GB hard drive and each game is 50 thats about 10 games and does not include profiles and DLC, do we have to constantly unload and reload those games or does the cloud have some sort of jukebox system that will rotate them in? What does happen at the end of the 1 or 24 hour period if you don’t check in if you are in the middle of a game or other check in limited app, (not even sure what all is stopped, I know you can watch tv and Blu-rays)? If I play a game like Forza 5 and my Drivatar become a Drivatard and sits on a wall will that lower my win/positive score? Is WOT going to be actual F2P or will it be more like Killer Instinct? When are the time restrictions implimented as soon as the console is turned on or will it even count in transit to someone elses house? Is the bottom bar on the Kinect a speaker and will it recognized individual voices? What does connecting the 360 to the X1 do? (Major Nelson said you could I would just know why you would)

Many other questions are throughout these blog’s and yes I have posted in favor of Online not being required and cutting down the restrictions but the people that post against it are more annoying when they repeat the same thing more often than the complaints. I have not been crazy on here, I’m not rude, and I try not to repeat myself, and I try not to repeat myself. This is the closest thing I have to contact with MS so here is where I will stay till launch or they kick me out, which by what I’ve seen from others on here NEVER happens. I have read the majority of these threads but they are hard to keep up with.

Sorry for the WOT but this is just part of the thought blob, just imagine whats still in my head.

          • heyitsme

I had other questions written out as well but they deleted, and I did not feel like retyping them, for some reason my disqus likes to freeze.

          • jlh

Most of the stuff that you are asking about has already been answered and the other more personal experience questions that you have can easily be answered if you just ask @xbox support. You would even have a better chance of getting some of the more “only I care about this but I still want to know the answer” kind of questions answered on the xbox forums. And Xbox Wire has a lot of good information about the One.

            1. Your account is what follows you around not what’s sitting on your console. You can go visit a friend in Antarctica and as long as they have internet access you can log in on their Xbox One and access all of your games.

            2. The Xbox One is designed to run in a low power mode so that it is always on which allows it to run updates and authentication without you having to be actively involved with that as long as it is connected to the internet.

            3. It has USB 3.0 so you can connect external hard drives or thumb drives if you feel that you need more space. And all of your games are saved in the cloud for you so you don’t necessarily have to keep everything you ever buy on the console.

            4. Game over, but why is this even an issue? You either have it connected or you don’t. If you don’t then you know that you won’t be able to continue playing games and if you do then you don’t worry about any of this at all.

            5. The drivatar looks super cool and it learns to race based on how you race so if you sit on a wall for an hour I guess it will do the same.

            6. Not sure why they would make it any different than current WoT, which is free to play or in my case free to suck.

            7. This one was answered on Polygon I believe, it starts at turn on and you can’t get past it by turning your console off.

            8. Microphone array & it can track the pitch & volume of your voice and your facial movements to distinguish between you & another person.

            9. It’s kinda cool, I guess. Some people speculated that it could be enabled for some form of backwards compatibility alongside a slim-line 360 redesign but that is highly unlikely.

  • Andy Wilding

Hey major nelson I hope you see this message as I had an idea that could possibly please both kinds of people, the people like me who have concerns and people who currently do not mind either way, if you implemented it it would drastically change my opinion.

How about a compromise. Ok, you have the 24h check because each game is a license that is linked to everyone accounts, you talk of the benefits which is being able to share your games to a friend that is far away. How about a two tier system, when you put a game disc in the one you get an option, you can choose to link it to your account and do as you currently describe it or you have another option which is an option to require the disc in the tray to play the game, not have the game linked to your account as a licence, because of that you wouldn’t need the 24 hour check and as a result you give up the right to be able to share it in a shared library.

The shared library and being able to play without the disc arent really a benefit for me as i dont mind manually switching discs and I dont think I would really share my games as the games I have all my freinds have that same game anyway.

I know that it would possibly be difficult when a time comes that someone might sell a game that has been used in the way that I would prefer but if you can tell that a game disc license has been attached to an account then you could probably mark a disc as used but not attached also?

If that could be possible then you would have my interest 100%

Thanks for taking the time to read.

  • Droideka75

So, Major Nelson… No Portugal on launch and no chance of importing because the games won’t work… Nice played! Do you all work for Sony now?

    • Does Not Equal

World of Tanks is a Microsoft game.

      • Droideka75

World of what? Oh the game in the blog… I just jumped in the first story to rant a little, so it was an off topic comment.

        • Does Not Equal

          I hadn’t noticed.

          • Droideka75

            That’s ok, don’t worry about it :)

  • ottavio luggin

Xbox one out in asia one year later! Reason: they need to manage tv local service and implement in xbox. Result: in one year everyone already own a ps4 ,why buy a xobox ? NOTE : playstation thanks the marketing manager of microsoft for the big gift

    • slasaru

      Not a year, several months
And it is not about local tv, for example they will launch xbox one in russia, i dont think any services will be available but games only

Japan do not like xbox, why spending millions on them

Military in Korea could buy american console, because anyways they do not know Korean for local games

      • ottavio luggin

Are you serious? Buy american console in korea? And you think wit no live service can work? You can have a american account but if there are no server and service is useless ! Anyway if you buy a korean console…. You can chose the language you want.

        • Dylan

Xbox One will not be launching in Korea.

With the region locking, it makes it impossible to import English audio games.

          • ottavio luggin

Im in hong kong and I play on xbox wt american friend from korea (usa soldiers) and they use the same console , all asia use, NTSC japan ,we have region free game and most of the time also can use ntsc usa and pal ! Loke COD is made in USA so we need to import and use the NTSC usa .

        • slasaru

No, i meant bring american xbox to Korea. And i believe korean games have no english language inside and moreover they have JNTSC or whatever, different from the US

It cannot be that every game require local servers, may be MMO type like Titanfall, but single player should not…

          • ottavio luggin

The problem is ! No xbox live service for xbox one in Asia ! So if we import a american or europe console we still can not use it because the xbox one need live and connection ! Right now the game for xbox 360 for asian market are all made in singapore! All of them have english (singapore and hong kong almost everyone under 40 years spek english) some of them also have italian, french, german etc. like every edition in the world.
I like my xbox and my plan was to buy xbox and play !
But in total honesty i can not imagine to buy a xbox when will be release (later next year)….

  • Nic727

    Hi Microsoft Team,

    what players want are :

    - Backward compatibility for great games like Battlefield, Medal of Honor, Crysis, Far Cry, etc.

    - Be able to play offline for one week long (if you are travelling)

    - Used game support
    - Region free for Bluray movie and games
    - Be able to buy only xbox one without kinect for $399.99.
Thx very much to take that into consideration.
Hope all that will happen, because a lot of people will buy Sony console “PS4″ instead of buying a restricted console like Xbox One…
    - Nic727 -

    • Shawn Springer

Get a WII U. Backwards capability, free online, store, cheaper, used games, offline play.

    • Dylan

We should accept no compromise when it comes to the online check in. The SAME issues appear whether its a day, a week, or a month.

I’d accept it if it only applied to digital purchases. But it makes no sense to treat discs that way. Especially since the competition is making the distinction between physical and digital.

  • Guest

For the 24h alway’s online, I found the a big trick that could work. Why just don’t put the disc in the console?

    • Does Not Equal

      And play World of Tanks?

      • Andy Wilding

The OP’s question wasn’t specific to WOT. I know its off topic but there isn’t a current topic the 24hr check, it closed.

Anyway since WOT is exclusively online you wouldn’t be worrying about 24hr checks

        • GmailIsDown

WOT is a 360 title and does not have the 24 hour checks.

    • GmailIsDown

because you and your buddy can then play the same copy of game at the same time. say you buy a game, install it to HDD, link it to your account, and then give it to your buddy. your buddy installs the game, links it to his account, and then gives the disc back to you. if disc can be used to substitute daily check-ins, you can then play the game by using the disc offline, and your buddy can play the same game without the disc online, doing the 24 hour check-ins.

i suppose they could limit number of license transfers per year like what they are doing with digital purchases on 360.

remember they want to get rid of used game market, and don’t want to allow you to play a game by just popping the disc into the console.

  • http://twitter.com/xbudz Xbudz

Thanks Major Nelson. I signed up right away. Fingers crossed!

  • Bob Dole

Yes, the future might be shared family libraries and always connected flexible this and that. Yes, that does sound sweet and I look forward to it. But right now, here in the present, MS, you need to swallow your pride and be flexible now and enable a physical disk check system (à la xbox 360 installed games) to fall back on should some one not be connected for longer than 24 hours. The worst that could happen is one extra person gets to play a limited, single player only game per disk sold. Major loss? Not really. Way easier than tossing a whole generation to Sony? Hell yes!

  • E.Nich

I guess that you will be unable to play X1 even if you get your hands on one, since the network/servers it needs won’t be available in your country. They will be on day one only on the countries they listed on the webpage. The only thing you will be able to do with that $500 device is watch bluray movies until they get their servers online in Argentina.

    • Does Not Equal

Do they talk about the World of Tanks beta?

      • Nate Welles

Are you from a place where topics on the internet don’t get derailed? You act like you expect more from the internet. #Dealwithit

        • jlh

Sure you have some off topic stuff sometimes but not every single blog post. As soon as a new post goes up you have a dozen of the usual suspects venting their anti-Xbox One, anti-MS, anti-whatever is fashionable today nonsense. This is a beta for a free to play XBOX 360 game and you still have people in here talking about Xbox One drm. Here’s an idea why not take all of that XO negativity over to some forum that would appreciate it, I heard N4G is a good place to start.

        • Does Not Equal

Every single post here gets dogpiled by the same people whining about the same things and clamoring for answers they’re not going to get on this website. Every. Single. Post. It’s ridiculous.

    • ae69ae

How is that embarrassing? That was a great interview in my opinion. In fact… Major took my IDEA! LOL I asked about the tether! just for that I should get some free Xbox One gear…

Angry Joe asked some good question and we got a sense of where Xbox One is headed. The family share is better than trading games IF you have friends. Which you probably do.

Here’s where (Xbox One “Friend”[is what it should be called] Sharing) makes money.
      – When you let your friends play your games. There is now the probability that that friend will like the game so much that he will purchase a copy.
example: I buy Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty. My friend buys Call of Duty but has never played Battlefield 4. Now he can play it when I’m not using it. Since he now has the opportunity to play it, he will probably buy it so we can both play it together online. When Battlefield 5 comes out–that friend will most likely buy it at launch.

–This sharing of games exposes gamers to more games they probably never knew they would like. It’s like renting from your friends, but the price you are paying is the price you pay for YOUR games. Which will now be shared with your friends.

      • http://www.doblu.com/ Matt Paprocki

How is the first one any different than letting someone borrow a game now?

        • KinjoTeck

10 friends aka family will have instant access to your games. You will always be able to play while one of your friend can join you. The other 9 can explore your game library. I know that when I loan out a game I have no opportunity to still play it. This could of been a great feature if they worded it correctly at first.

          • http://www.doblu.com/ Matt Paprocki

But infinite number of people can browse my physical library now. What am I gaining for what I’m losing (renting, reselling)? Ease of access for OTHER people? That’s not much of a marketing point.

          • Does Not Equal

Has it occurred to you that while other people can have access to your library… you might have access to other peoples’ libraries? Unless all your friendships are one way, that is.

        • Dr Dornon

Because my 10 people can have access to every game in my collection at any point in time. Also, I can play a game I own and they can also play that game AT THE SAME TIME. Physical doesn’t allow that.

          • http://www.doblu.com/ Matt Paprocki

You cannot play the same game at the same time. That is incorrect. I.e., you cannot play Halo together online with one copy.

And, while it may not be instant, my friends have access to my library any time they wish.

          • DarkMaturus

From what I’ve seen you can only play a “shared” game at the same time for single player. For multiplayer, the friend buys it. The shared game allows multiplayer from one person at a time. Major Nelson is writing a blog on this as we speak! I can’t wait to read it!

        • Xebu

Think it was phrased wrong. As I understand it from the (admittedly poor) details we have, the sharing scheme allows you to still play at the same time as your friend ‘borrows’ it.

That aside this works really well for me, and presumably many a mature gamer, because as you grow up friends move away. The 360 enabled me to keep in more regular contact with many now distant gaming friends. Contrary to the “I can’t share games” complaint the Xbox One will actually restore my ability to share games with some friends!!

    • kingcrusher

I feel bad for the Major. He’s in a tough spot. He’s an employee, whose employer is releasing a product which he has to be positive about. That can’t be easy when there are so many negatives about the product.
I’ve always had nothing but the utmost respect for the Major. He’s always been on the consumer’s side and has assisted whenever problems have occurred.
Just remember to always be respectful in our disagreements. Unfortunately, for me, my disagreements with MS have led me to drop my plans for getting an XBox One, even though I’ve been with XBox since day one of the original XBox. I just can’t support MS in this product. But I can keep up my respect for one of the greatest PR people I’ve ever seen for a company.
I liked how AJ did his best to keep it respectful.

    • Bush O Connor

after watching that i feel sorry for major trying his best to defend this stupid DRM decision. how any gamer can defend this i dont know.

at the moment i can lend any game with way more than 10 people. also they seem to be saying that the cloud will help the xbox run games. if the OS didnt take up 3gb of RAM then the cloud wouldnt be needed, but i dont think any game out at the moment really uses 4gb if even that.

good interview joe seemed to be caught off guard with this.

    • Dr Dornon

This was awful. Angry Joe was so rude and tried his hardest to make Major look bad.

      • kingcrusher

MS is doing a fine enough job of making everyone and everything look bad within their little world. Love the Major, but he needs to jump ship. This XBox situation is just a mess that even Major Nelson can’t fix.

    • Z4M0

Thanks for sharing that vid, nice stuff.

It’s sad that we live in a such corporative world where people can just walk in and say “Do u wanna come to the future with me !?” like if real life was a dishwashing product commercial.

Well, in real life someone from Iceland, Peru, etc. would be able to give him a reply like “I wish but you ain’t letting me to”.

Hard times for Microsoft, that rage campaign could be worse than the red lights of death… as this is happening even before the console hits the market.

BTW I can’t blame them that much… this is the direction the market (software) is going, they just did it “openly” and in a more agressive way. With years to come I will have to go that route but I’d preffer it to be OPTIONAL at the start.

Thanks also to both Joe and Larry for that interview wich got its highs and lows and for the heads up on the TANKS beta.

I’d join but I’ve had kinda enough of betas… once the game is released you can’t keep stuff and to me my last beta made me feel like time was wasted (didn’t use the final product that much)

  • Dylan

No I don’t think you can.

Since the console is region locked, and every disc must be authenticated on the internet, I don’t think any of your games will work until the Xbox One officially launches there.

  • Macy Slator

totally. Nelson was the awkward one. raised his tone, almost about to lose his temper. would of loved to see that.

  • slasaru

You have to learn VPN or whatever it is called, to change IP

  • RespectA

Gold memberships are paid once a year for Xbox live services. That dumb question is like asking if I bought a car why do I have to buy gas.

    • Dylan

It isn’t a dumb question at all.
In fact it is DUMB to require Gold for FREE to play games.

Then it isn’t free to play, its a subscription based game.

Those developers want as MANY players as they can get.
Locking behind a paywall is exactly what they DON’T want.

Like on the new Playstation. It isn’t required. And all of the announced free to play games, their publishers announced will not be behind the PS+ paywall.

DC Universe Online, Blacklight Retribution, Planetside 2, and Warframe will not require PS+

      • MudHoleSmasher

        Thank You..Dylan

  • karma32

The sad thing is I think the next gen will be a repeat of the one sided PS2 days. The great thing about the Xbox was that a console finally came out to challenge the Playstation for the core gamers and with the Xbox 360, Microsoft got it so right that it got so many followers and finally the market had a nice split of games going to 2 consoles. Made great for competition. Finally a company came in to challenge the Japanese console making market and did a great job.

I don’t know if you read the news, but the PS4 has been getting a shocking large amount of developers for the system lately and it’s all probably because of the restricitons/price of the Xbox One. I still have not come accross anyone wanting the Xbox One. The online part is great, but just because it’s fully online that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be used offline too and this is where Microsoft got it all wrong and made it way to restrictive. 24 hour check has turned most people off. 3-4 weeks mayb, but giving it such a restriction will anger most. They’re shoving all these restrictions and they’re confusing people and telling people how great it is, but no one is listening because it’s TOO restrictive. It’s not going to sell very much past the launch days, everyone seems to see it but Microsoft. And haven’t they learned from the PS3 launch? $500 is too much for a game console.

So sad, the next gen is going to be the return of the one sided console for Playstation. It took a lot to stop the Playstation’s dominance and now it’s going to be back. Back to a Japanese console hardware dominating market, back to a one sided console race, and it’s going to be all Microsoft’s fault and their stubborness of these restrictions. I’ll just stick to my iPad for gaming and tear as I watch a once mighty giant fall because of utterly stupid decisions in the console market. It’s ok, I did the same when I watched Sega do the same thing before they fell off the market.

  • MudHoleSmasher

Just a thought, before Microsoft makes the Xbox Two lol. Let the people vote on your decisions cause there’s no way in hell. EVER..The people will let consoles go all digital. They will all move to PC. Trust me. The government will never take away peoples guns. Do you know why? The people wont let them.. For Gamers everything you are taking away….Is our GUNS! I know its not your fault, and since apparently you are a real gamer. I know deep down some of these restrictions are bothering you too. And free to play meaning subscription play. Stop lying about everything and just own it. Damn.

    • Dennis Crosby

But im sure that majority of people on PC buy there games from steam?

    • Dr Dornon

So if consoles go digital, you will move to PC, which is digital? What is the point in that?

    • Xebu

It always used to be pay to play with no ownership before console convenience killed the arcades, you don’t hear (too many) people bitching and moaning about that do you? No, they all go and grab a copy of MAME. The same will, is, and has happened with old consoles so go find a good emulator and relive your glory days.

I need to do that now for my PS2 games seeing as both my PS2s have died and my post-YLOD PS3 is no longer backward compatible (except for the 142 PS2 games I can buy again from the PS Store DIGITALLY). Fat lot of good ownership has done me!

PC’s went digital years ago, go sign up to Steam or Origin and enjoy all the ownership they give!

If you’re going to bring guns in to it you’d be better taking that up with my neighbour. Her daughter would have be in school at Sandy Hook has she not moved back to the UK purely on the vibe that she wasn’t in a safe place to raise a family!

      • kingcrusher

Either get another 60GB model PS3 (look it up on ebay), pay Sony the 100 to get it fixed, or buy a PS1, PS2, or whatever it is you miss. Problem solved, and you’ll own your games still.

I have 36 games now off Steam, and I haven’t paid over ten bucks for any of them. Bottom line is that while you don’t “own” your titles off Steam, you can get them dirt cheap. Love steam for that reason. If MS would sell their XBone games for $10, I would not complain at all.

Not sure where the heck your last statement came from or what you’re trying to say, glad they weren’t there, it was horrible, but has NOTHING to do with a video game controversy.

Bottom line is that MS has done everything wrong this round of systems, and when a huge XBox fan from day one of the original like myself who has always been the biggest proponent of the brand decides that the PS4 is in every way a better value and a more friendly gaming machine, then you know MS has problems.

        • Xebu

Why would I get another 60Gb model when we all know they’re all prone to the same problem and it’s a ticking timebomb as to how long it’ll last? I did manage to reflow mine and get a bit more life out of it (and my saves backed up).

I can’t pay Sony to fix it because they won’t, they quoted £130 (maybe £110) to replace it with a reconditioned PS3 slim. Still no BC.

I could probably pick up a new PS2, Should last better than the old ones but why should I continue to throw money at Sony. My PS3 is perfectly capable of playing those games but Sony have software locked it so they can make more money.

My Steam library is similar, fairly huge and 99% populated from their monster sales and Humble Bundles.

MS have made some bold/stupid (depending on your spin) decisions but they have absolutely done their PR wrong, in the long run I think they’re trying to get to where Steam are. They had a 360 sale a little while back where things were stupid cheap. I get the feeling that was a “testing the water” thing to see if it could work in Consoleland.

PS4 is more open, only an idiot could dispute that, but I’m pretty sure that’ll change in the not too distant future. With the increasing costs and amount of studio and publisher closures in recent years the console landscape has to change.

The odd comment was mostly a “has he really just compared console DRM to gun rights” WTF? They are NOTHING alike, as you say.

          • kingcrusher

Thanks for the civil response, we’ll see what happens. Sadly for me, MS has lost me unless there is a drastic change. Makes me sad as I’ve been with them so many years (had all the systems, just XBox was my main).

Sorry to hear about your PS3, when mine broke about a year and a half ago, they charged me $100 to fix it and I got my BC 60GB back without a hitch and it’s still working. would be sad to lose that.

          • MudHoleSmasher

I compared it to that cause we have had the right to trade our games for over 30 years, and if they never let us trade games it wouldn’t matter. Just like if we were never allowed to have guns we wouldn’t care if they took them away cause we wouldn’t have them. But when the government threatens to take that right away or any right people stand together and fight back. Just like were seeing now with how fast the ps4 is skyrocketed to to the top of everyones christmas list. Sony wont make the same mistake cause we would buy there console either. Explain to me why in the hell would I buy a xbox one when its basically a pc that I cant upgrade? And ps4 is not charging for freetoplay. What else you got?

I think its cool that you can hook the 360 into the Xbox one.

    • http://soundcloud.com/ViRUSfromMARS Jaffa Cake King

Is it $500 cool? Is it worth having DRM and forced Kinect cool? No i don’t think it is. It’s a signal pass through, how incredibly exciting, what a technological marvel.

  • Realmusik Recordz

    I bet y’all didn’t kno that

    • heyitsme

I did not know that you thought that was cool.

      • heyitsme

Now if you could explain to me what that does, that would be super cool!! I know you can do it, but why?

        • Dr Dornon

It makes your Xbox 360 almost act like an app on the Xbox One. Plugging your Xbox 360 into the HDMI in on the Xbox One will allow you to essentially play 360 games on your Xbox One and still use Xbox One features. I’m hoping they will post a little more about this in the future as it was just confirmed the other day that this was even possible.

          • kingcrusher

So, you can plug your system in and play it… only now you can go through another external source… Ummm… sure. Sounds really hi-tech and space aged.

          • Richard

I saw Nelson say they can connect together via HDMI. But can you provide a source for the rest of your info?

          • Generalkidd

What that’s literally doing is using the Xbox One’s TV features to display the Xbox 360′s video output on the Xbox One in a Picture In Picture Mode. It’s not actually backwards compatibility. You’re still playing the games on the Xbox 360 and using the Xbox 360 controller.

  • Realmusik Recordz

If you don’t kno now you kno ..”biggie smallz voice”
