I might not be there but I will be at PAX on Sunday. I hope the Xbox
team will have a presence at the show the entire time. I am so excited
to get my hands on the One and the great launch titles! See you at
    PAX!

  • Jorge Garza

What about a free game with every preordered Xbox One in North America and Latin America?

    • John Titus

Well you do get Killer Instinct for free, even though it only comes with 1 character to start. I think MS is trying to spice up the deal in areas where they have tougher competition from Sony.

      • Jorge Garza

That doesn’t count since it is not a “full” game. Sure, you can beat the game, but its not full because you will have to pay in order to get all characters.

I mean a retail game, COD: Ghosts, FIFA 14, BF4, Ryse??? Even Madden would be cool.

        • Brady Nickell

There is no story mode for thay version. You can only play training and online.

          • Jorge Garza

Not at lunch, but they will realease a story mode sometime next year, and it´s going to be free, I think.

          • Brady Nickell

            Hope so man

        • mightywombat

COD and Ryse would just be wasting money at that point. BF4 will probably do decent enough as well. FIFA would be OK, but Madden I think would be more popular, atleast in the US, and would make more sense because it will be a three month old game by the next gen. (despite its improvements) I could see Zoo Tycoon being more of a possibility, since it will be a family-oriented game that showcases Kinect.

    • ImperialAgent

ppl bring this up every day… at least just wait and see ffs…

  • Dylan

Which was the worst news from yesterday?

    Ben Affleck as Batman?
Or that Ryse will have micro-transactions?

    • ImperialAgent

They’re only micro transactions for people who are too lazy to play normally. You can keep your fud, troll.

“One of the things that we did a little different is that you can buy them with in-game currency and real world currency. The difference is that if you’re close we also have small microtransactions.

“Say for instance a gold pack costs 15,000 gold, [and] you’ve only got 12,500 you can actually buy the difference and only spend a little bit to make it go to a Gold Pack. So we offer some variety there.”

      • Dylan

        And?
        Microtransactions are micro-transactions.

Players who spend 20 more bucks to start off have an advantage over everyone else.
You already paid 60 dollars for the game, and you’re worse off than the people who paid 80.

        Troll? Okay whatever.

        • The_Mad_Prophet

Micro-transactions are not required, first of all. Second, if you pay more, you should get more. That only makes sense. Personally, I loathe micro-transactions. If the game is good enough to buy, it should be good enough to put in the effort to avoid extra expenses.

          • Dylan

I never said they were. No it doesn’t make sense, it creates an imbalance in the multiplayer.
Instead of earning equipment, you pay for it and get an advantage.
On top of the high price tag too.

This is where the industry is heading, and it’s terrible.

          • ImperialAgent

well I agree with you in principle but this isn’t exactly Battlefield we’re discussing… I see the multiplayer in this game as just a bit of fun… I’ll have a laugh but even if there is pvp I don’t see it as some serious, competitive affair.

Has pvp been confirmed yet? I haven’t seen that personally. If there’s no pvp then the argument holds no water whatsoever… All we’ve seen is a co-op pve mode so who cares that some other person somewhere else has paid a bit extra for some help? It’s irrelevant.

          • Dylan

They keep saying multiplayer and not co-op.
If it’s just a co-op game then I don’t have much a problem with that.

But multiplayer, is another story. Basically pay to get better armor first.

          • ImperialAgent

yeah. I don’t disagree with you although personally I don’t care about that much for this game. There are some games that it would be despicable to have micro-transactions on but so far I don’t really see this as one.

also.. there’s a difference between paying for some super weapon and just simply getting a bit of a boost… that’s all it sounds like. Not a big deal really.

          • Nick Peck

Its a co op only mp game like mass effect 3. Well just the mp part, of course it has a sp mode too.

          • The_Mad_Prophet

“Instead of earning equipment, you pay for it and get an advantage”. You get an advantage that you could otherwise have earned by playing the game, though. It’s not like anyone has been excluded, it’s just the way of getting there is different.

Using your logic, anyone that is able to play for 20 hours a day, every day, has an “unfair advantage” over the people that have to work for a living. Perhaps it IS unfair to an extent, but that’s life. Then again we really don’t even know much about the so called advantages, so the whole point may be moot.

        • mightywombat

You’re argument here isn’t very solid. In multiplayer games, ie. COD, if you put in more time and are a higher level, you get better weapons. That’s just how it usually is, and that’s why I prefer Halo where it’s even. But allowing people to use real money to save them time of grinding for in-game currency to have weapons that put them on an even playing field? If people value their time more than their money, it seems like a pretty nice option. As far as I can tell, the microtransactions don’t give access to weapons that couldn’t be earned through normal gameplay, so what’s the big deal?

        • Nick Peck

There is no advantage in a co op only mp mode game lol. See mass effect 3 mp, it worked fine in that game.

    • Does Not Equal

      Ask them at the meetup.

    • roozbeh, again

  • Snake eyes 211

Hopefully they tell us a release date and they tell us what free game!?! will come bundled with the US Xbox one hint hint

  • xPutNameHerex

So wait, you are showing off the Xbox One, and giving people a $25 gift card just for coming?

Can you come near me and do that? Please?

    • Jorge Garza

It´s not a $25 gift card, it is a $25 discount on a $75 purchase. So, you save $25… if you spend $50.

  • Christian Morales

i hope they say when xbox one is coming out because i can’t wait to get my hands on it

  • Landsharkk

I’ll be there, really looking forward to getting hands on with the controller!

  • roozbeh, again

i’ll try to be there. will probably be the main attraction though

  • ElektroDragon

I might be there, but since I have 4 days of PAX tickets already…. maybe not. You should save the giveaways for PAX. ;)

  • Death Dealer

Hi everyone! (TLDR incoming I fear),
A friend and myself went to GamesCom yesterday and I just wanted to report everything that we saw as it was really great. The doors opened at 10am and we went to hall 8 (North entrance) where there were these great League of Legends and Starcraft tournaments going on early on and thereafter proceeded to the other halls.
Next door in hall 7 was Activision (that took up more than half the hall with 6 truly HUGE and breathtaking booths) and Sony, which had a center stage with a couple of Vita hangouts and a few areas where you could game on console (TLOU, Batman and a GT6 racing setup with racing seats). There was only one relatively small part that showed off the PS4 with DriveClub, so my friend and I went into the line (which already reached around the booth about an hour after opening). What was VERY noticable from standing in line is the reflection of the controller LED into the screens, it’s beyond annoying and people coming out of the booth said it was distracting while they played. After about 15 minutes the line moved about half a meter, so seeing it was pointless we went away and continued to look at other parts of the show. Crytek (Warface) and Konami both had a few smaller booths with games like Mirror of Fate HD playable.

Next stop was hall 6 with MS and EA and Ubisoft and WOW was it packed. Where Sony only did a few shows in the day giving away throwaway swag, MS did hourly huge crowd pulling Xbox One lotteries and Kinect Sports Rivals contests where you could win a Surface tablet, which were great alternations between the game demonstrations by several developers (Dan Greenawalt presenting Forza Motorsport 5 e.g.). So we went to play the games around there.
The controller is definitely the best around. My hands can grip around it better with an excellent D-Pad and better grippy analog sticks. The shoulder buttons also don’t feel like they can be dunked in after many hours of play like on the 360. Kinect (KSR) works really well, much better than the Xbox 360 one and scane your physique and features into an avatar really well (really a shame it’s delayed to early 2014).

BF4 looks and plays great, but then Titanfall! “Game of Show” was what came to mind immediately. It’s a maximum of 64 players frenetic action for both PC and Xbox One and was AWESOME! We then went to look at a nice Ferrari and saw the NFS 30+ player racing setup which looked great! FIFA14 wasn’t really our cup of tea, so we went by even though it looks very good.
We went for Killer Instinct instead and man was that cool. One thing MS did perfectly right is to not allow lines to form as long as the ones around the Sony PS4 booth. Waiting times were up to 2 to 3 hours tops. We waited about 1 hour for KI to play it for 10 minutes but it was well worth it. That games is beautiful and plays very well. Had some fun with the alternate skins too (characters were Glacius, Jago, Sabrewulf and Thunder). The KI Arcade port will be for the Xbox One, not the Xbox 360 BTW.

FM5 was very playable and looked stunning as well as the real Audi RS7 parked next to it. Ryse is breathtaking and so is Dead Rising 3, which has modifyable vehicles.

Ascend, Project Spark, Fable Anniversary, Disney Universe, World of Tanks, Max and the Brotherhood were all playable on the 360. Peggle 2, Lococycle and Zoo Tycoon were freely playable on the XBO and didn’t have huge lines, no hogging, people just let each other play after 5 to 10 minutes or so, which was really great to get a good feel with the new console.

There was a smaller out of sight booth with amongst others Lords of Shadow 2 (awesome), Splinter Cell (great), TMNT(meh IMHO), How to survive (great) all playable on the Xbox 360. It looks like it will still receive a lot of support in the future looking at all those games.

Ubisoft had huge AC4, Watchdogs and The Division booths with playable setups (but long waiting lines).

Hall 9 and 10 had many different smaller expositions with Nintendo, CDPR, Deep Silver, Bethesda, Warner Brothers and a lot of small shops where you could buy all kinds of gaming related stuff.

This was truly a great experience and I encourage everyone to go to it if you can (or something similar elsewhere). We left at around 7:30pm and had a great day. Going out the door, I saw people still standing in line around the PS4 booth that I saw there stading in line in the morning. They clearly hadn’t gotten the opportunity to play the PS4 yet, which was a shame as that was just a day wasted for nothing.

One tip though Microsoft. If people want to look at what the guide looks like on the XBO, don’t instruct your personel to quickly come on scene and remove it saying it’s their job to keep you away from it. That creates distrust. One guy got it and let me look at it and said that it was a still work in progress but from what he could show me, it’s pretty snappy and allows local games to remain static when you multitask, which is great!
Another thing is the Xbox 360 debug units running all the games. You can remove files and I saw someone who clearly didn’t understand what the environment was after his game crashed to it, do it (fortunately it wasn’t the demo game package). Please sort that out.

The one thing I truly deeply regret is not meeting Mr. Hryb after listening to his show since its inception. I saw his tweets, but we were just about to play KI after standing in line for some time and half an hour later he was gone and “unavailable” according to Xbox personel walking around. C’est la vie, I guess. I hope we’ll meet someday Major!

Go to this meetup, I’m very sure you will not be disappointed with the Xbox One!

    • roozbeh, again

one tip from me. dont make a great wall of text.
      FYI i read it all

    • Does Not Equal

This might have gone better in the Gamescom update instead of the Seattle meetup update.

      • Death Dealer

        You’re right, my apologies.

        • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

it was one nice post. i usually skip long one, but this one was interesting and well done

    • ElektroDragon

Nice, I hope they have those lotteries at PAX. Also I think you mean Disney Infinity, not Disney Universe (which honestly is just like Infinity except you don’t have to pay for figurines!)

      • Death Dealer

        Correct, it is indeed Infinity.
The lottery was basically writing your name on an official Xbox One ticket and putting it in a bucket. In the end all the tickets were collected in two buckets and one was removed at the luck of a heads or tails draw. Then someone from the audience was allowed to pull one ticket from the remaining bucket and that ticket would win.
It was a lot of fun and you couldn’t cheat as they checked if your name was there among the remaining tickets afterwards.

    • boe2

So I wasn’t the only person that decided to check if that xbox guide button did anything :)

I pressed it during LocoCycle and was immediately greeted by the xbox menu. Quickly pressed it again (don’t want to maky any staff angry, do we?) and Lococycle was waiting for me, paused.

Heard from press that the dashboard still needs some work done, but transitioning between your game and the dashboard sure went smooth as butter. Compare it with switching apps in windows 8: No delays, just the subtle transition effect.

And because people were arguing about it a few weeks back: The guide button IS a physical button, not just a touch-sensitive area.

      • Death Dealer

Yeah, I liked that it became a Live tile with a snapshot from the game. Looked really nice.
I thought we already knew it was a physical button..

  • roozbeh, again

    Why so serious?

  • Dylan

I remember the Heath Ledger controversy.

The difference is, Affleck has had a full career of being wooden. The movies that have been good are the same ones he’s directed.

He’s not directing Man of Steel 2. Expect a wooden batman.

i’d be happy as long as i could get my console and the games i preordered before thanksgiving.

  • DHX

The party of DHX shall attend. Funnily enough, that’s exactly where I have my XBO preordered as well! Hopefully they’ll let me take it home that day too….. And hopefully I’ll also get to pet a live magical unicorn.

  • roozbeh, again

    off topic.
gentlemen place your bets. whats gonna be the next free game?

    • slasaru

Should be Halo 3 or some arcade again

    • Dylan

      Gears of War 1

    • evilfangs .

      Some type of Kinect game.

    • GmailIsDown

      BLOPS2!

      • roozbeh, again

        Good luck with that thought

    • Bush O Connor

i would bet it would be something like perfect dark zero. i returned that game a few days after launch.

      • roozbeh, again

        The bet is on then

  • http://www.ReadyUpLive.com Greenskull

Aw man, I have other things to do at that time. Hope to see you around PAX, Maj!

  • slasaru

Major, could you give a little, just a little briefing of Hotchips confence where xbox was presented, in your blog? Or NDA?

  • m1nh0ca

    Off topic:

So, after the transition from MSP to real currency, do we REALLY need to add a credit card / PayPal info? Even to download a free demo?

Besides, I am not seeing my credits. And I had around $50 in MSP.

Is anyone having those problems as well?

    • Bush O Connor

do you have to add a credit card now? that will cut out a lot of the live user base.

      • m1nh0ca

So far, yes. I hope it’s just a glitch, as for me the real currency started some hours ago.

I know that I am pretty mad by now…

      • roozbeh, again

tha is the case when using the website. from the console there is no problem

    • roozbeh, again

If that is true then this is the last you will see of me

      • m1nh0ca

Same here if they don’t fix it.

        • roozbeh, again

I haven’t downloaded yet so im hoping you’re wrong

      • evilfangs .

You can hit X and change back to “Microsoft Wallet” IE Microsoft points converted.

I have about £3.67 in my “Microsoft Wallet” which were MS points before the switch over.

You can also use redeem card points and it just gets converted back into £. The point cards will be phrased out and turned into something like gift card codes.

        • roozbeh, again

i realized. and im very relieved.

          • evilfangs .

Everyone should have got an email explaining this. :)

Sometimes emails take a while though, so won’t hold it against anyone asking.

          • roozbeh, again

i did get the email. but i hadnt downloaded and when m1nh0ca made the comment i got very worried. now that i tested it i was so relieved.

          • evilfangs .

Did anything else change with that update? All I can see is the Greens got a darker shade and the currency got exchanged.

I couldn’t find any update list on what got changed.

          • roozbeh, again

that is it actually. real currency and darker shade of green. almost nothing else changed

    • Morris ヅ

i noticed that to all of a sudden you need billing info to download free stuff they better fix that.

    • Death Dealer

I think it’s a glitch as it wasn’t required during the beta. You still can redeem codes for point cards (soon to be value cards) too added as credit to your account.

    • roozbeh, again

fortunately you are wrong. i just got a free demo ace combat without any issues

      • m1nh0ca

Thru console or web? I still didn’t try on the console, I’m using the website and can confirm it’s not working… I’ve just tried again.

Later I will try on the console.

        • roozbeh, again

i tried it on my console. but i will try from the website right now

        • roozbeh, again

you are right. the website doesnt have the xbox wallet yet. i expect it to be fixed soon though. its not like its a huge problem.

          • Nick Peck

I wonder if they will add that to the MS wallet on the W8 phones since it’s built into that OS as well.

          • roozbeh, again

            They probably will one day

    • Please Clarify

I can still see the MS points on my account at this site:

      commerce microsoft com/PaymentHub

      (add the missing dots)

But I too am unable to purchase anything with my points on Xbox com.

      • roozbeh, again

It will work on the console

      • Nick Peck

Yup, they are still listed there, confirmed. I was about to check there but then saw this post. Cool, I’m sure when they are done changing things around it will be listed in the correct spots.

    • Nick Peck

Yah mine better not be lost, I had 25k points in my account. I’m at work so I can’t update my Xbox yet, but will do the second I get home. On the site, it’s only letting you use a credit card.

I’m sure the whole backend is getting updated so it will probably be a bit before everything is set. I took screenshots of my account pages just in case lol.

      • roozbeh, again

The conversion rate was pretty accurate for me. So expect fair numbers

        • Calmosity

I had 470MSP on my account and it converted it to £4.08 o.O

          • roozbeh, again

            though luck. stupid conversions.

      • Dylan

        It’ll expire in a year.

        • Nick Peck

Doesn’t matter, it’s all getting spent the day the XBO comes out :)

        • roozbeh, again

          keep being negative about xbox.

          • Dylan

That’s what happens when I’m slighted.

They’ve royally screwed me as a loyal customer. Done with them when next gen comes.

And then they tried to monetize and ruin the industry. Unforgivable.

          • roozbeh, again

            ‘Unforgivable.’ facepalm/
where the hell were you when the ps3 launched? you havent forgiven them huh? wow and let me guess you are writing this on a mac or linux device huh?
im sorry but who ever says unforgivable for a piece of tech of which he or she is supposed to enjoy has issues in my eye

          • Dylan

            Heck no. And heck no.

I was with the 360 when the PS3 launched. Sony has made a LOT of mistakes, but NOTHING that was actively trying to RUIN the industry.

Guess who had the gamers backs? Sure wasn’t Microsoft was it?

            Windows user, love 7.

Unforgivable in the sense, I’ll never forget what they tried to do. Never. Will not support them this generation.

Matter of principle, maybe I will 6 years down the line.

          • roozbeh, again

‘I was with the 360 when the PS3 launched. Sony has made a LOT of mistakes, but NOTHING that was actively trying to RUIN the industry.’

ah this is about the freaking online checks again. now in principle it was a digital incentive over physical. now i couldnt support that. i probably would never have with time limit it had. but to say it was going to ruin the gaming industry is a exaggerating now isnt it? when everyone is saying we are going to a digital future. even cerny said there wont be single player games by 2014 so is that ruining the gaming industry?

but to phrase it better would be extremely anti consumer. that they changed. and will be forgotten in maybe a couple of years.

‘Guess who had the gamers backs? Sure wasn’t Microsoft was it?’

im not following? since when does anyone have our backs? it’s about moolah to these companies. and that is a following trend my friend. every single one of these companies has had a taste of it.

now a lack of trust is a better way to say it. but now that the idiots who nearly killed this brand are gone i think we are all optimistic about it.

            RANT OVAH!

          • Dylan

It is much bigger than just no single player games.
It was plain control. Control on how you play. How games are made.

ANTI Consumer. ANTI Developer. Pro Microsoft. The only benefit. It would not have benefited the Publishers in the long run.

I could go on about how Microsoft was going to control every developer, every price point, and control the entire industry by what they were doing. Creating an oligarchy. Like I did over and over again while it was happening.

But I suppose that is pointless, since it didn’t happen.

Companies are greedy. Same with Sony. But they didn’t gouge consumers when they could have just followed Microsoft. They never had any plans for such DRM. Never was leaked, they insist there was never any thought to it.

All companies are greedy, but some don’t go overboard at everyone’s expense.
They deserve to be applauded for that.

  • roozbeh, again

Major did you get a white xbox one?

    • evilfangs .

I want a Zebra Xbox one.
