Xbox One delivers premium voice quality via hardware improvements and Skype’s audio codec

Today we want to share some details about the incredible voice chat improvements made to Xbox One and how these changes will enhance your communication with the Xbox One Chat Headset on the console.

Thanks to integration with Skype’s audio codec, which has a proven track record of high-quality voice through billions of hours of use within Skype, as well as dedicated audio processing (for Xbox One conversations via Skype and multiplayer party chats), Xbox One offers higher quality voice chat with the Xbox One Chat Headset compared to Xbox 360—whether you’re chatting in-game or through party chat with Skype on Xbox One.

But the improvements don’t stop there. The Xbox One Wireless Controller’s new expansion port dramatically expands the data transfer rate between the controller and console. Combined with Skype’s audio codec, this enables crystal-clear digital audio with the Xbox One Chat Headset, both capturing and rendering speech at 24 KHz PCM, which is triple the rendering sample rate and a 50 percent capture rate improvement over Xbox 360 headsets. And, as we shared before, the Xbox One Chat Headset comes with every Xbox One console.

But don’t just take our word for it. Listen to this short sample for yourself:

We think gamers will immediately notice the improvement here—whether it’s through crystal clear in-game chats over the Xbox One Chat Headset, through the sound of crisper conversations taking place over Skype or with your multiplayer party chat.

We can’t wait for you to hear the improvements first-hand in a couple months.

*Voice chat requires Xbox Live. In-game voice chat and Skype require an Xbox Live Gold membership (sold separately).

I can only hear the 360 sample.

  • http://about.me/chuck.yoder Chuck Yoder

Still sore that you took Video Kinect -> PC/Windows Messenger integration away on the 360 and didn’t replace it with Skype. Half the reason I bought a Kinect in the first place.

  • http://www.petergore.net/ Peter Gore

Loving your work!!! Looking forward to better quality skype!!!

  • Timothy Hames

thats cool, but please tell me what free game with gold are coming out for next month.

  • Ivanx360xpira

The difference is noticeable…though I think it´d still possible to enable crosschat between both plataforms…

    • Jorge Garza

      OMG that would be amazing!

      • roozbeh, again

        confirmed not happening. :(

        • Ivanx360xpira

I´m not the guy that LIKE to chat during a game session…but I know a lot of people that plays only with chat enabled…I fear that this could create two isolated communities…that would be bad…

          • roozbeh, again

            very bad.
            ‘nods head up&down’

          • menzlo

How is it not already two isolated communities. You can’t play games together, either. You can still send game invites and text messages though.

          • arrow2010

Guess what the PS3 will be an isolated community from PS4 as well.

    • cris178

I thin it’s because the X1 had a whole studio working to get Skype onboard as the audio chat. The 360 had it’s own audio chat. Texting on the 360 used WLM which is cross compatible with Skype.

  • http://aiusepsi.co.uk aiusepsi

Is that SILK or Opus? I assume by “Skype’s audio codec” you mean SILK. If so, it’s a bit odd to go with that when the more future-proof choice is Opus.

  • Vince

Major, having no competitive multiplayer in Ryse is a big mistake.

    • joeljfischer

That’s Crytek. Not the community manager of Xbox. Also, they can’t include a mode in 2 months.

    • ThtJstHapnd

MajorNelson is not the one you need to be expressing this to.

    • roozbeh, again

I wonder if that is a voice improvement.
yeah i did a does not equal

    • Joddington

Not all games need competitive mp modes; I’m happy that they haven’t. My only wish is that the co-op could have more than 2 players which I believe its currently limited to.

    • martin_m95

      hes just a messenger

      • Jaymoon

        *paid shill hypeman

    • Does Not Equal

You’ll be able to hear everyone better, though.

  • roozbeh, again

wow that is a awesome improvement.
but why did you pick seashells, seashells on the seashore as your example?

    • bickle2

It’s a standard audio test phrase. S is a hard letter for compression to render, there’s a lot going on in it

      • roozbeh, again

        well why not this one
        silly sally supposedly sucks

        • martin_m95

          or this one
peter piper picked a peck of packled peppers

          • roozbeh, again

            S’s man. no P’s.
why does that sound so weird?

        • bickle2

Because its been in use for about as long as there’s been audio recording

          • roozbeh, again

i didnt know that. thanks for telling me

  • roozbeh, again

    off topic
i posted this in another thread but this deserves to be heard

I logged in just to downvote you.

      • roozbeh, again

        achievement unlocked. 0G
I have nothing better to do…

        login just to downvote someone

        • martin_m95

that achievement should be negative G actually

          • roozbeh, again

its a representation of his bordem.

    • Dylan

If I posted that, I would have gotten blasted by posting a CBOAT leak

      • roozbeh, again

not really. you would actually get very praised in my view
but why do you even care about downvotes?

        • Dylan

Not downvotes, Nick Peck and them “WAAAH CBOAT ISN”T REPUTABLE WAAAAAAH”

          • roozbeh, again

now your asking for a downvote in my view.
            but i dont do downvotes

          • Dylan

Okay. At least you didn’t log in to just downvote one person haha

          • roozbeh, again

i dont do them downvotes. i find them stupid

          • roozbeh, again

plus i never got to tell you that sony considered a digital download only machine.

  • bickle2

You need to include both codecs so we can still chat with people on 360.

  • Joddington

You can definitely notice the difference between the ‘s’ and ‘sh’ sounds. Still waiting to hear though how existing 360 non-MS headsets (TBs or Tritons etc) will be implemented on the One or if there will be non-MS sets specifically for the One. Kinect voice and the single ear headset are no good for my gaming environment.

    • evilfangs .

You can buy TB Xbox one headsets for next gen or you can wait and hope Microsoft do continue to make that adapter so we can use our current TB Xbox 360 headsets.

      • Joddington

Yes wired ones; last time I checked TB hadn’t announced wireless XOne headsets

  • Joel

What about the GPU Larry? Freaking weak sauce!!!

    • roozbeh, again

      here. confirmed.

      http://www.extremetech com/gaming/164934-xbox-one-bus-bandwidths-graphics-capabilities-and-odd-soc-architecture-confirmed-by-microsoft

      • Joel

weak as hell, im going gaming pc this gen.

        • Xenokai

PC has always been more powerful even back since consoles started. No diffrence going pc now or back in 2005 when 360 released. lol Reason people still love consoles is that there long term and cheap with no worry of needeing a upgrade to keep up with other people framerates. Gaming pc is more short term in that regard and exspensive. I see people all the time spend a good $800 on a custom built gaming pc with better cpu/gpu then the consoles and have to upgrade to play newer games that consoles are still playing silky smooth a year or so later. Consoles are just way more convienient for games, without the clutter of a fluctuating resource hogging OS.

          • arrow2010

Yeah Windows 7 can’t compare to the triple-OS the XBONE is running.

          • roozbeh, again

and still win 7 doesnt have dx11.2

        • roozbeh, again

i heard the same stuff back at ’05.
          keep telling yourself that.

          • Joel

2005 the gpus in consoles were top of the line compared to PCs then, these arent even midrange. both Xbone and PS4 should have 7990 cards in them at the bare minimum.

          • roozbeh, again

which would be obsolete in let me guess a year right?

        • arrow2010

          PC master race strikes again…

          • roozbeh, again

the elitist b@stards strike again. even though they know consoles will sell more

    • Does Not Equal

I don’t think you can hear the GPU on either headset.

  • Boss

So I can use Skype to talk to my girlfriend on her iPad while I’m on Xbox One?

    • roozbeh, again

      yes

    • evilfangs .

Now you never have to leave your room and visit her in her room :)

      GAME ON!

I think that could be a marketing tactic

Xbox One: Play with others online. Ignore them completely in the physical world.

      • Boss

Haha I was addicted to COD:4 would always pick that over seeing her the same thing might happen with Titanfall

        • Nitemare

NO YOU WERE NOT ADDICTED TO ANYTHING EXCEPT FOR LIES~!!!!!!!!

          • Boss

OKAY HAHAHA The only people who lie are the ones who type everything in CAPS

          • Nitemare

HAHAHAHA EVERYONE KNOWS YOU AS A LIER FROM WHEN I EXPOSED YOU TWO BLOGS AGO, NOBODY BELIEVES A WORD YOU SAY YOU LIER!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Nitemare

HAHAHAHAHA LIES LIES AND MORE LIES!!!!!!! SURE YOU HAVE GIRLFRIEND VIRGINLIER, SURRRRRRRRRRRRRE

      • Boss

You’re right I’ve got several don’t trust no girl why do you think I’ve got so many for when my third one leaves I’b calling number four

        • Nitemare

HAHAHAHAHA BRAGGING ABOUT HAVING ‘GIRLFRIENDS’ ON AN XBOX BLOG, IMPRESSING SOME RIGHT GEEKS AROUND HERE AREN’T YA? HARD GUY, STICK TO LYING, IT’S THE ONLY THING YOU DO RIGHT

  • https://twitter.com/#!/BeeDizz BeeDizz

Definitely a BIG difference between those 2. But chat on my 360 doesn’t sound nearly as bad as this example.

    • roozbeh, again

maybe its the mic that is in the box.

    • guest

on the 360, regular game chat is really awful. it’s the party chat that’s good.

  • Chris Read

Was this recorded via Kinect? or the headset?

    • Nick Peck

      headset

  • Jermaine Johnson

    Worthy improvement in quality

  • avi

nice quality on the xbox one

    • Nick Peck

That is a night and day difference no doubt.

  • guest

is this the party chat version or the regular game chat version? because on the 360, the party chat version was significantly better than regular game chat.

    • Nitemare

LIER, WHY BOTHER EVEN MAKING THIS POST YOU SILLY LIER, WHY DON’T YOU MAKE MORE LIES INSTEAD

  • A_Wise_Man

I don’t always improve my console

    But when I do..

The Sony Fanboys don’t like it.

    Keep improving my friends.

    • roozbeh, again

dos equis and xbox. best combo ever.
thanks most interesting man in the world.

    • JuanCabrera

They like it, but they are regretting their PS4 preorders more and more.

      • Dave Michael

no regrets whatsoever on my PS4 preorder

        • roozbeh, again

no one will have regrets on what they preorder. they will have regrets for not buying the other consoles

          • Dylan

I didn’t regret not buying a PS3. Bought it 5 years later, so worth it getting all the exclusives for cheap, the console was inexpensive, perfect.

Now I’ll do the same, except getting Xbox One much later. I can play Dead Rising 3, 3-4 (maybe even 2) years from now.

          • roozbeh, again

i think the xbox one will be cheaper a bit faster in comparison to the ps3. that thing took 2 years to get down in price. xbox one will probably do it in a year

          • Dylan

Then that’s when I’ll be getting it. 500 is too much for me. I’ll listen to Don Mattrick for now and keep my 360

          • roozbeh, again

im doing the same. 500$ is too much for me too swallow

          • Timothy Hames

Yea I think 300 is about the right price point for me.

          • Dave Michael

same here. I’ll get an Xbox One when the price drops from the ridiculous $500 and when they eventually release one without the Kinect (yes, I don’t care what Penello says, it WILL happen).

        • JuanCabrera

I mean for those who had to choose between one or the other and went with PS4 instead.

    • Dave Michael

completely neutral article about voice chat improvements….and some idiot has to mention “sony fanboys” again. Jesus, just drop it already and enjoy the console.

Just today on IGN they posted this news about voice chat as well. The majority of Xbox fan comments are just bitching about Sony, their earbud, and indie games again. Coming from an Xbox and Xbox360 owner, it’s making Xbox gamers look really immature.

      • roozbeh, again

believe me even the sony guys do it.
gotta think how these fanboys even find time to play

      • Chris Grub

It’s crazy but some people attach their identity and self worth to the console. Just liken it to CocaCola vs Pepsi – just pick the one you like, and enjoy it.

It’s like a religious cult trying to preach.

  • Xboner2013

Voice and video quality has to improve so NSA’s software has an easier time going through the data and categorizing and searching your conversation.

    • evilfangs .

      Bit paranoid aren’t we?

      • Xboner2013

A bit out of the loop aren’t we?

I heard the Flat Earth Society is taking new members too.

        • evilfangs .

Mate you’re on the INTERNET being paranoid about people watching you.

          • Xboner2013

Mate, you are talking nonsense. They are already doing it… now if you want to believe the Earth is flat, hey that is your business… just don’t try and convince me of that foolishness.

Yeah the US government is chasing a guy around the world because the information he is giving is false…. haha.

          • roozbeh, again

lets take your paranoia to the next level then.
if the us government is doing it. which i know they are. then throw every piece of electronics out of the window. destroy your hard drive. and go live in a cave.
            problem solved

          • LarZen

Let’s not bully the man, paranoia is a real sickness and can be quite so life changing if struck hard.

I however feel he is not that deep down the rabbits hole as he is online AND using Discus…that is the world biggest commenting system. Probably monitored by a bunch of systems 24/7 :P

          • Nick Peck

You have no idea how much data your cellphone spits out when you aren’t using it lol. How much location data on pictures, gps, txt’s… really if you are the paranoid type, I sell TOP OF THE LINE Tinfoil hats. Honestly, they are second to none. I even offer 2nd day air S/H for free.

          • evilfangs .

WHAT!? This is my tin foil hat business you’re trying to muscle in here. :)

          • Nick Peck

:D Ok ok, we can split the US, you get west half and I’ll get the east???

          • Chisox4ever

AS long as I get to keep the South because business is good.

          • roozbeh, again

what about up north? can i have it?

    • EighteenCharacters

Nah, the NSA will use your cellphone if they want to track you. Why eavesdrop in one room when they can watch, listen, and track your wrongdoings no matter where you go…? If you’re going to be paranoid, go all out.

      • Xboner2013

“track your wrongdoings no matter where you go”

Only if you allow someone to.

    • roozbeh, again

what would they want to listen to? gamers insulting other gamers? some idiot saying pwnage in child ops daily? kids screaming?

what ever happened to common sense?

      • Pete

Like they say… The problem with common sense, it’s not very common.

      • Timothy Hames

The problem is now with the Justen Kid from Leg of Lengends going to Jail for saying something Stupid the fear is their more then ever.

The NSA thing will always be in the back of peoples minds. They just came out and said 75% of all Us internet traffic is monitored, and one supenda from the Pariot act will allow for the collection of data.

Watch Dogs is a game based on an idea of Hacking, reminding me that no system is safe that has intry points. Wether its the NSA or a hacker group the fear is still there.

        * the only way to stop it though is to be completly off the gird- FYI

  • Stereotypical_White_Fella

So ready to get my day one edition, need it..gotta have it

  • tigertomspill

really nice was waiting to hear the diffrence between the two. This is a vast improvment over the last generation…

  • Landsharkk

Cross-platform chat using the Xbox One.

Now while playing Xbox One you can chat with anyone anywhere in the world using any device that supports Skype, which is pretty much every smartphone, desktop, laptop, and tablet.

    • LarZen

Yeah I think this is pretty cool. Allot of my friends play only on PC and we usually sit on Skype at nights just talking while we game. Now if I want to play some games on the Xbox I can still chat with them.

      I think that’s really nice :)

  • The Yankee

Chat is terrible on the 360 mic. However once you own a pair of good cans it really improves everything. I went from some to Turtle beach, to the PX5 and now the Tritton Warheads….to me total worth it specially late night gaming when I want to immerse myself and not wake up the wife!!! BTW only a sucker would be pay full retail for Trittons..paid 110.00 with shipping …gotta love ebay!!

  • Calmosity

Good. We are in 2013 not 1999. I hope the dashboard will be smooth and fast as well and the apps won’t crash.

  • jab106

Dang now i cant get “seashell, seashells by the seashore” outta my head.

    • roozbeh, again

she sells seashells by the seashore.

  • david_hoyland

She sits and shines and shines and sits. Suzie in the sit shine shop.

  • tigertomspill

now we need a nice new chat pad or with all the new bandwidth from WiFi Direct maybe even a interactive touch screen… =o)))

    • Mark Matheson

maybe Smartglass will act as the chat pad.

      • roozbeh, again

        it already does

        • fallouthirteen

When it wants to work. I have both my PC and Xbox on the same network and smartglass on PC complains that it can’t be used for a chatpad.

        • Mark Matheson

It does? Well there has to be some reason I haven’t been encouraged to consider using my laptop, surface or phone to send messages! Will check it out.

          • roozbeh, again

its slow. and a bit laggy

          • Mark Matheson

Yip, works just like you said. And SmartGlass needing to reconnect every time I unlock the lockscreen is a pain in the neck. Need to disable the display timeout.

          • roozbeh, again

it work with your internet connection. that causes a bit of problems. but the xbox one has its own chip(wifi direct) which could fix this.

  • http://deulus.com/ Derek D

Can someone please help me. I have both consoles pre-ordered and am planning on dropping one before launch, but honestly…Every single time a Microsoft Exec runs their mouth about Kinect, I get an urge to cancel my XboxOne order. I love love LOVE my 360 so much more then I ever loved my PS3, but honestly, having Microsoft forcing the Kinect on everyone irritates me so much. And all the Xbox exclusives that I want to play are going to be available on the 360. So, can someone please provide me with a valid reason to get one. At this point it looks like I’ll be getting a PS4, and then getting an Xbox One a few years down the road when it doesn’t have a Kinect bundled with it.

    • roozbeh, again

check what project spark does with kinect. you will thank me later

      • Timothy Hames

Fable promised us the world and give us a sub par game. until we have the game in hand it could be another Alien Col Marine.

        • roozbeh, again

          voice acting is awesome. period

    • Nick Peck

Well if you don’t like the kinect, drop it as they aren’t taking it out of the box. I honestly do NOT see what the issue is as it does so much more than just sit there waiting for a motion game to fire up.

Have you looked at how all of the launch games are using it in 50 different ways? I had both on preorder as well, but once I noticed that Sony has ZERO good games at launch (first party wise) I dumped it and moved that $400 for XBO games. Best choice I made in forever.

IMHO, Killzone looks uber generic, I mean, watch the videos, when stuff blows up there is NO geometry deformation…. they don’t even leave lack marks when explosives go off!!! Same with Kanck, looks like a fun kids game, but the environment is non changing and totally generic. What else do they have? Nothing. Second Son looks good but it’s not out until early next year.

It’s up to you and who has the games you want.

      • Timothy Hames

Killzone looks great and so does drive club. Both systems are about the same according to John Carmac, both have games that look very good.

I’m sure that if you dont like the other system you can find a way to blash the games (like people saying Ryse is a god o war light rip, and titenfall is a mechwar rip) but true be told until we have them in our hands and are playing them we really dont know.

I am excited for Watch dogs but it could be a huge flop. So could Titenfall.

I agree with the statement you made “I’m not saying the ps4 and it’s games suck, I just personally do not care for them”

After the 180 on policies I feel a bit let down by xbox and with the 500 price tag it just is not winning me over.

    • dibils

“And all the Xbox exclusives that I want to play are going to be available on the 360.”

you mean titanfall? cause thats the only exclusive i can think thats multigen. dont get your hopes up for that since x360 version will be done by a different developer and wont have dedicated servers

      • Nick Peck

Not to mention, after looking at the XBO version, I couldn’t imagine how the 360 one will look / play.

        • roozbeh, again

somehow i feel the same about dead rising 3

      • Dylan

Pretty sure it has dedicated servers.
        Just they can’t play cross-platform.

        • roozbeh, again

the 360 version doesnt have dedicated servers in my knowledge

          • http://deulus.com/ Derek D

            I think you’re right.

          • Dylan

Nope, it has dedicated servers. Check the link I posted up top.

          • http://deulus.com/ Derek D

That’s good to know. Thanks for the link. :)

thanks for the link. i didnt know there were dedicated servers on 360.

      • Timothy Hames

Titenfall looks good but its coming to PC so its not an exclusive.

        • dibils

its a console exclusive so it does count. majority of console gamers do not have a gaming PC

          • Timothy Hames

console exclusive would by def mean no PC. Like for now GTA5 is console exclusive

          • dibils

come on.. you know what i meant

          • Timothy Hames

            :-P

          • Timothy Hames

Ps tomshardware(dot)com has a 400 Pc build that rocks the socks off of a lot of games. It runs Skyrim at 90 frames per second. In fact the system I build from the site in 2010 can play titenfall no problem which I’m looking forward to on my Pc where most people dont talk. It makes the game that much more enjoyible to me.

    • Dylan

It’s up to you to figure that out.
Take a look a past history, see which console was supported in the long run.

They’re the same to me online wise now. The PS4 seems to have caught up and is providing all the same services
      but *free* (except for Multiplayer).

Either way, you are paying the extra 100 for Kinect.
People will tell you it’s unlikely they’ll have a Kinect-less version available, I say it is inevitable.

There WILL be a price drop, so that will probably mean a kinect-less version. So it’s up to you whether to wait or not.

      • http://deulus.com/ Derek D

Exactly, Microsoft claims they are listening to their customers. You would have to be deaf, dumb, and blind to see that the majority doesn’t want Kinect. The question is, do I wait a year for the Kinect-less bundle or not.

        • roozbeh, again

i dont think the majority doesnt want kinect. they just want a price drop fast. with or without kinect.

but my tip to you. keep your preorders for both until about month before release. that way you could be sure about which one you want

          • Timothy Hames

I think a lot of people dont want it after the NSA spying thing, or the Leg of Lend kid going to jail for saying a bad pharse. there is a lot of fear from people that it will be used against them even if it is not true.

          • roozbeh, again

well that was because it had to be connected at all times. now you dont have to. so those fears are invalid

        • Dylan

Up to you. Kinect 1 was a huge bust for me, and they aren’t showing *any* reason gaming-wise to get it.

Seems exactly the same, with some improvements for things other than gaming.
So I’m not interested in paying top dollar for it.

      • Timothy Hames

There was an interview with an Xbox guy over on IGN that stated again the Kinect is not going to be sold without the system.

        • Dylan

I know. But they stated over and over again that removing the DRM was not going to happen, and wasn’t easy.

Well that wasn’t true. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they removed Kinect from the box in a year or two

        • Bush O Connor

what they should do is just bring one out without Kinect, the people who dont want Kinect will not use it anyway. so i don’t see the problem with removing it.

if its in every box and the devs can program for it people who dont want it still wont use it. its all a load of BS.

    • The Yankee

You should buy the PS4 because no one should have to explain to you such an easy answer. People complain about Kinect..then it’s revealed it DOESN’T HAVE TO BE CONNECTED…people complained about a headset…NOW IT COMES WITH ONE…people complained about the DRM…IT NO LONGER REQUIRES IT…what more do you want? I’m sick and tired of whiney kids complaining over stuff that either is no longer relevant or try to find an excuse to not buy an Xbox One. I for one am a GAMER FIRST i care about the games weather it’s Microsoft,Sony, or Nintendo…PERIOD!!!

      • http://deulus.com/ Derek D

Sorry, but I disagree. This is not something that should be taken lightly. $400-$500 is not something to scratch at. Unless your a child who has no concept of money, that $100 is a big difference. And regardless of the price, you should think of your purchase as an investment in the next 8 years of gaming.

        • roozbeh, again

you should also take a few more aspects in consideration. like preferences to controllers and services. all im saying here is think it thoroughly and not like some kind of knee jerk reaction.

          • http://deulus.com/ Derek D

Yeah, I have to say. I used to love the PS controller, but after having my 360 for a few years it’s a no-brainer that Microsoft has the more comfortable controller. Also, Xbox Live has been years ahead in advancements and stability sense the original xbox compared to any other network. That’s where I can definitely see the long term benefits. Microsoft it a software company at heart, where Sony is not, and because of this factor they definitely have an advantage in what they can do with interface, features, and not to mention those 300,000 Azure servers waiting to be used.

          • hoopchi

Ultimately you have to make up your own mind. But if the extra $100 is the only thing really keeping you from Xbox One, consider that the extra investment will play itself out over 8 to 10 years of the console’s life. That’s an extra $12.50 a year factored out that you paid up front for a device that right now you have no interest in (Kinect). If you can’t afford an extra $100 outlay now for investing in the future of Kinect 2.0 and all that it brings, then that must be your choice. I for one believe that Kinect will at some point get multiple games and apps that will be mind-blowing and I consider it a good investment in a company (Microsoft) that actually had a plan for looking forward this generation until the internet hordes burned them and their ideas to the ground. It sounds to me like you love your Xbox, you understand the company aspects and are just picking nits over one aspect. I’m going to love controlling my Xbox One with no controller and my kids are going to love the new Kinect games. Sold for me.

          • Dylan

What new Kinect games? What mind blowing experiences?

They PROMISED me that with Kinect 1! And I was played as a fool!
There were no such experiences. Just lame mini games, and hands free menu control.

Ryse was supposed to be the mind blowing Kinect game! It doesn’t even use it anymore.
That tells me Kinect is not going to be used as this all important gaming device.

          • roozbeh, again

‘Ryse was supposed to be the mind blowing Kinect game! It doesn’t even use it anymore.’

that is wrong. it still uses kinect but it isnt kinect focused anymore.

plus i think about the games he meant the games for his kids. like kinect sports rivals and dance games and zumba. plus sesame street on kinect is fun for the kiddies

          • Dylan

That’s what I meant. It uses Kinect, but it isn’t required. They promised it to be the AAA Kinect game.

Just a side thing just like Skyrim, Ghost Recon, and every other game that isn’t a kids game.

          • Timothy Hames

I have a hard time with english and Doubt I could ever scream a Dragon Shout for Skyrim.

It does feel like at this point that without it being man-da-tory that it is an extra 100 for the cost of the system. Even if it was only an extra 50.00, the price of 450.00 sounds more do able then 500.00

          • roozbeh, again

there were a few non-kid games for kinect but the controls sucked.
honestly the worse enemy of kinect 2 is kinect 1

          • Synchr0nistic

Zumba’s an exercise game, not a kid’s game. Please walk your bias home when you go stating things as fact.
My point is, there’s genres of gaming other than FPS or hack n’ slash, so the Kinect can be used for all sorts if stuff. You should probably look into the indie gaming scene for reference, assuming you’re not a hot-headed ignoramus.

          • Timothy Hames

I agree with you. Seeing that it is not required for playing I think a lot of companies are not going to invest the time into programing games for it more then simple voice commands.

It is always easier to me to use a controller to play a game over waving my arms.

PS when i worked a job that I was on my feet for 10 hours a day there was no chance I then wanted to come home and have to stand for another 2 to play a game. I really dont care if it is a mind blowing exp, I think a lot of people that are hardcore gamers would feel the same way.

          • Dylan

Sorry if I seem a little passionate, don’t mean to be on the attack. Just a little frustrated. Forgive me.

          • Timothy Hames

If there is not a problem with RROD then yes 10 years sounds about right. I still have a ton of PS1 games I’m still playing so thats closure to 15 years of goodness.

It is cheaper to buy a system and a game you play for a while then having to go out to the movies and such.

Its cool your kids play games with you, the kinect 2.0 was built for it.

        • The Yankee

You just answered your on question. Your initial complaint NEVER mentioned money. If 100 dollars is the reason why, then again by all means buy the PS4. The whole 8 yrs of gaming investment IS the reason to get the Xbox One. I rather invest in a company that has invested so much in the system along with it’s infrastructure. The company who doesn’t go down for maintenance 2-3 times a month. People complain about Kinect and how Microsoft want to “spy” on them…yet if I recall it wasn’t Microsoft whose servers where hacked into and had millions of their customers personal information compromised. It wasn’t Microsoft who last second threw several of their developers under the bus by removing the PSEYE and in turn make less money by developing games for PS4…but you know Sony cares SO much for the indie developers.

          • Timothy Hames

Not to state that both consoles are going to have games in RedBox and if you sign up with them for texts you get a free game a month.

Also if your Next system is 10 years plus a few more.

Gaming Hours / By Cost = Price per Hour.

It would come out to be about .001 an Hour for me.

          • JayD

I would add that the 360 has had so many features added that it looks nothing like the original 360. Pretty much every year there is a big dash update.

This is just the beginning things will only get better for the Xbox One.

      • Not_A_PC_Gamer

There is nothing I want from Microsoft they have already lost the trust. While I admire anyone who games on everything.. this generation I’ll be putting my foot down like so many others and and opting out from everything Xbox. When your devotion to playing games gets in the way of your principles (as is the case with nearly all xbox one supporters) then maybe you should rethink your purchases.

Personally I’m tired of people pushing these issues under the rug just because they think it doesn’t affect them on a personal level. What’s even scarier than these people who don’t understand this concept and actually believe everything MS has done is forgivable.. Those who have a mindset like this are the real scary ones because they have no clue how MS is bad for this industry.

        • Dylan

Exactly. Enough with this brand loyalty stupidity.

Some of these people have no idea what Microsoft just tried to pull, it would have ruined the industry. Yes, ruined.
          Console gaming would have died.

Luckily most of us made a stand with the pre-order numbers, and they changed. But that isn’t enough for me.
They won’t get me at launch, they’ll be lucky to get me later.

          • killerfirefly

You think making sure the developers get paid for the work they’ve done will ruin the industry? That’s ironic. The more we take care of the developers, the more they will take care of the gamers. What goes around comes around. And if you don’t want to pay them, then they will be unable to produce more of the amazing games you love to play. This is why developers have to figure out how to handle used game sales, because from the developer’s point of view, it is a huge deal.
You’re not entitled to get their hard work for a discounted price unless they let you. It is their right.

As people who are not in the industry, I don’t expect you to understand. You can’t even comprehend the amount of difficult intricate work that goes into creating the games you love.

I just urge you to keep that in mind. Use the only tool you have, vote with your wallet. Support the games you love. Buying it used doesn’t save you very much, and it doesn’t support the developer at all.

          • Dylan

This had NOTHING to do with the developers. NOTHING. It had everything to do with creating an oligarchy.

If you believe this had anything to do with the developers, you are mistaken.

Developers were forced into the DRM scheme. CD Project Red couldn’t even have people from their own country Poland play their game with the old system!

I understand everything that goes into game making, don’t assume otherwise.

This had to do with Microsoft controlling the market, plain and simple. With this system,
            1) they would have controlled the pricing structure of the entire industry (thanks to fees to retailers), no competition digitally

            2) controlled how developers make games, forcing DRM

            3) Forcing consumers to ask for permission to play.
They lowered the value of games, and kept the default price point (even inflated in the long run)

          • killerfirefly

Do you work in the gaming industry? Have you ever made or even tried to make a video game?

If not, then don’t ever think you know “everything that goes into game making”.

          • Dylan

You implement a system that rewards the consumer.

THAT’S how something gets adopted. Not take everything away and punish the consumer.

Otherwise, Peter Moore and other high end execs are right, used games (which I don’t buy) are part of the industry.
REWARD the consumers that buy new!

Books don’t charge for used, cars, movies, don’t either.
Games wear and tear as much as they do.

Lower the price on digital and that’s how you beat the market. Not by blaming the gamers, when it’s on the publishers.

Just another scapegoat, just like Piracy was.

          • killerfirefly

Cars deteriorate with use and time. But a game is either functional or not. A functioning used game that is old is as good as new, unless you support the online pass that EA and Ubisoft have done.

      • Volitar Prime

We want a $100 price break and a system menu that is not cluttered full of ads. We want to be able to use video streaming aps from Netflix, Amazon, HBO, etc without having to pay for an extra service.

        • Not_A_PC_Gamer

          Exactly.

        • The Yankee

What do you mean by we want? It already exist it’ s called a PS3-PS4…NOBODY is forcing you to buy a Xbox One. if you feel like “sticking” it to Microsoft by supporting another system NOBODY is stopping you. HOWEVER stop whining about what you want NOBODY cares ..do you and be happy with your choice.

          • Volitar Prime

“What do you mean by we want?” Hmm, you are the one who asked “what more do you want?” and I responded.

I don’t want a PS3 or PS4. I guess I’m an anti-Sony fan-boy of sorts. I used to consider myself to be a MS fan-boy but that was before the XBOne. I loved my original Xbox and I mostly love my XB360 (my love for it has been reduced since the metro dashboard introduced all the ads).

I also really wanted backwards compatibility. It is too bad that they went in a different design direction which didn’t allow for it.

What I really want is an XBOne system but one that is competitive and has more customer friendly features like the PS4.

I want to be able to continue playing the XBox franchise games that I enjoy. But I don’t want a lot of what MS has been attempting to do.

          • Bush O Connor

Volitare Prime im with you man, everything you just said is how i feel about Microsoft.

          • Synchr0nistic

As much as I’d like backwards compatibility, the reality is that we couldn’t have a $500 console that ran as good as the XOne does now AND backwards compatibility.
I’d say I’m glad I can at least connect my X360 to my XOne to access Halo 4 through XOne’s UI. Too bad I can’t trade my X360 for an extra $100 in spending money.
Also, can we not call it XbOne? Microsoft’s gotten rid of the d*****-nozzle that gave the console a bad name in the first place AND changed all the controversial features that gamers hated. I’m okay with people who have it against Microsoft, considering most corporate companies like them tend to be a******s, but the Xbox One’s just a console with great promise, hate it or not.
Let’s try calling it XOne. By the way, it’s pronounced “zone”. I’ve met quite a few people having problems sounding it out… xD

          • Dylan

Why connect it to Xbox One? It makes zero sense to me.

You’re going to have 2 consoles on at the same time, overheating problems galore.

Why not just change the channel to HDMI-2

          • Synchr0nistic

Why take up the only two HDMI slots on my TV? That makes zero sense to me. I could just plug it into my XOne and use its stylized and updated UI, hand gestures galore.

And the XOne is designed to stay on 24/7 for 10 years straight. Just sayin’…

        • Adinnieken

There are no ads on the Xbox One’s UI.

This has been said by Major Nelson himself, more than once.

          • Volitar Prime

I hope that is true and will always be true. Remember that the XB360 didn’t have ads on it when it first came out either. Also, Major Nelson has said that they are not ads on the current metro dashboard, they are marketing. Because marketing is different than advertising.

So lets hope that the XBOne’s dashboard remains ad and marketing free!

    • Timothy Hames

If you have both console preordered and you decide that you dont want one hang on too it until christmas at least and sale it. You should get back what you invested into it and more.

Plus you will make someones Christmas that is a last minute person.

(ps I feel the same way about the kinect I dont hid the fact that I preordered a ps4 and MS needs to gain their trust back with me before i get another xbox)

    • Adinnieken

After you get everything plugged in, turn it on, pick-up the controller and have the Xbox One recognize you, might be the moment you stop and say “This just could be awesome!”

Or the moment you’re at your Home panel, you say “Xbox: Play Game” and instantly within less than 1/2 of a second, you’re instantly playing your game, you might just stop and think “I could learn to get used to this.”

  • roozbeh, again

the kinect’s voice dropped support to only 5 countries now. i sense another 180 coming.

    • Boss

as long as the Xbox One it released the same time in the US & UK at least people won’t be disappointed

      • Nitemare

LOL LIES STOP LYING YOU DIRTY LIER LOL BOSS THE BIGGEST LIER IN HISTORY

      • Timothy Hames

people will always find a way to be disappointed.

    • Ivanx360xpira

Well, if kinect is Xbox One and vice versa…they´ll be launching an unfinished product, I mean without voice function I suppose a lot of thing won´t work yet, at least for the countries that won´t support it yet. I preorder it and want a full experience when I got mine…I hope I can change language settings to use it in english, at least for a while

    • Adinnieken

      Incorrect.

There are 5 countries that have full voice support, however there are 10 countries and 8 languages that have voice support.

The 8 Languages at Launch are:
      1) English – US
      2) English – GB
      3) French
      4) Spanish – MX
      5) Spanish – ES
      6) Italian
      7) German
      8) Portuguese

  • Timothy Hames

So when is the Xbox One coming out ?

    • Adinnieken

      November 2013

    • Volitar Prime

It would be funny if MS released it 1 day before the PS4.

      • Timothy Hames

I thought on it is Nov 12th,19th or 26th, I could go into a lot of funny reasons but New Media comes out on Tuesdays. If buggy buggy are worked out then 12th would be great but if there is going to be issues it is better to be later with a functional product. Seeing the Voice Commends for non English dialog is in a bad state I would push it as far back in Nov as possible without missing Black Friday, or have a two part release one for N America, One for World. (as the world does not care about black friday)

I think being a couple days behind the PS4 would not be bad and you would have a week of good pub.

        If I took bets 20% for 12th
        50% for 19th
        30% for 26th

        What are your guys guesses

        • Paul

I disagree. I don’t think Microsoft will want to be bested and come out after the PS4. I’m thinking November 8th is likely, but I like the sound of the 12th. That would make for an awesome week in the gaming industry!

  • MrRadiolips

I dont know about you but when i chat on my 360 with my bro it sounds a hell of a lot better than that and we both have the same headset.

    • Adam Shields

I highly doubt that. Not because “Xbox told me so” but having a pretty decent rig with several different microphones of different quality, I can tell you NONE of them had the highs and fidelity that I just heard on the Xbox One. The key here isn’t “volume” but rather you could hear the “hiss” of his “s’s” and the singular “lows” of his “ell’s” with clarity. That’s pretty impressive. It DID end up sounding like some of my best gear when used on my PC…not surprisingly with Skype.
*I should add this is if you’re referencing it sounding better than the XO, not X360. A good headset (not the wired) will sound better than the X360 one we get with the console, but it’s not nearly as good as the XO.
      -Adam

      • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

The sound quality is better in group chat compare to chat lobby in game. I guess the bandwidth is compressed in game chat lobby

  • Timothy Hames

this might be shocking but I want Mircosoft, Sony, and Nintendo to do well. With the three being strong it provides us with choice and comp.

If the Ps4 is cheaper then MS will provide perks to paying more for a console, ditto with Nintendo.

Give it a year or Two and both system should be about the same cost, if there was only one video game console provider that would not happen.

I’m excited for the Xbox 1 to come out even if I dont get one for a while. I’m excited because I’m sure a friend will get one I’ll be able to play dead rising 3.

    • The Yankee

Not shocking at all….We’re in the same boat…GAMERS not fanboys!

      • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

it’s better to have GOOD competition so that we get more improvement and innovation

        • The Yankee

EXACTLY!!! look what happened to madden. I remember when madden would be the 1 game sold every year. Till no competition made it go stale and boring,

          • Dylan

Luckily the courts ruled a monopoly, so 2K can make a football series again if they wanted to.

I hope EA starts doing baseball again, the 2K series is atrocious.

          • The Yankee

I miss the 2K football series like a redhead missing it’s sun block. I still remember when Sega came out and sold it for 20 bucks…that’s what caused EA to go for the throat and buy the NFL rights.

          • roozbeh, again

their doing it with fifa again. slowly kiliing pes

By next holiday it will be priced matched with PS4. If they can’t reduce manufacturing costs then they will likely drop Kinect from the bundle. They already prepared themselves for that possibility by removing Kinect from being a mandatory add-on, but still trying to force sell it.

MS knows that they will most likely be far behind PS4 sales due to their massive failures in start-up PR (not everyone knows about the reversals) as well as the poor pricing.

Both systems are ***about*** equal but MS shot itself in the foot with their early strategy. They can recover, but it is a long road.

      • Volitar Prime

I also expect that they will remove the HDMI input during the first system redesign for cost savings purposes.

        • Timothy Hames

I’m glad the Blue Ray is in it so it cant be cut out

        • SoulSnatcha

Why would they remove a key feature they have pushed since their reveal in May? That doesn’t make sense. They won’t remove any feature from the system. If anything, they’ll release a version with a smaller HDD (don’t know WHY they would do that since they’re pushing for more digital downloads, but stranger things have happened), but don’t count on them removing the HDMI input or Kinect. Those are here to stay.

        • BostonSup

They are using the Xbox to force sell the Kinect. The stratigy for Microsoft is to “own the living room” and make everything connect through them. I doubt they would remove HDMI input.

To remove just 1 add-on that isn’t doing well will save them more money to price match than removing ports, harddrives, or anything else. Plus people care more about ports and hard drive space than they care about waving their hands to operate Xbox1′s OS.

      • Timothy Hames

Phil Harrison stated this in an interview to IGN,

“Absolutely no plans at all,” Harrison said when asked if there will be a
Kinect-less Xbox One. “We think Kinect is an integral part of our
platform. All of the magical experiences that you get, both as a
games-player and also the way you navigate the system are made even more
        amazing because of Kinect.”

I think the Kinect is part of the Roadmap we have heard about. With that being said if it is not dumped the price will still need to come down.

I like what you said “Both systems are ***about*** equal but MS shot itself in the foot with
their early strategy. They can recover, but it is a long road.” I heard this from John Carmac at quakecom.

I think if the comsumer is offered two products that are the same the cheaper will be picked. I really hope MS can Iron out the problems before to long from now. I would never count MS out but there is a road to Earn back the trust of the people.

        • BostonSup

But Phil is out. They stood firm on a ton of things, and then got their senses back. Realistically, if they fall back on sales, then they have to cut costs.

They are going to hope that Kinect will finally get support from games, but since most 3rd party dev/publishers will make multi platform to get as large of sales as they can get, they won’t put much effort into Kinect. You may get some easy & cheap uses for it, but nothing game changing… thats for 1st party and exclusives. Early on, you probably won’t see amazing uses by 1st party either.

The system isn’t build around the Kinect (as much as they wanted people to believe), but rather around being an all in one machine, so HDMI in will probably stay. The goal of MS’s Xbox is actually to “own the living room”.

MS will have 2 options (unless manufacturing costs drop considerably in 1 year).
          1. Subsidize their system and make money off of the game licensing & service fees/licensing. This option is best during launch because those who would buy it cheaper may already have a PS4 and not looking to get another system until much later.
          2. Remove a feature that isn’t picking up. They won’t change the companies interconnectivity strategy so they will keep HDMI in. The only expensive thing to remove is the Kinect. The Kinect, as is, will not be a must buy feature to the system. Cutting that should allow them to sell the system for $100 or even $150 less.

They will probably have to price match. Kinect will logicially be the first option that is gone.

  • Shane Battle

WTF! No voice recognition for Xbox one in Australia. How about a drop in price, seeing as we are getting an incomplete system. Now i find out that i cant enjoy RYSE and DDR3 fully because the KINECT is just a big paperweight.NOT HAPPY JAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Boss

Pretty sure they can speak english in uk or us version

      • Shane Battle

different accent dude. i cant speak POM or YANK.

        • Jun284

I can’t even tell the difference between Aus and UK accents. Sounds the same to me, though Aussies sound a bite more dopey.

          • Shane Battle

you must have difficulty telling your left foot from your right foot!! we are as different as chalk and cheese

          • DarnedNut

Chalk and cheese both taste the same, Chalk is more chalkier though.

          • Jun284

            Well excuuuuuse me, Princess!

Better practice at speaking with an American or UK accent then so it will recognize you! You only have a few months to rehearse, so chop chop!

        • Nitemare

OHHHH MATE YOU JUST OWNED THAT LYING BOSS FELLOW, MAD PROPS

        • Synchr0nistic

          That’s so messed up…
          xD

          • roozbeh, again

            those bloody yanks!

      • Nitemare

NO YOU ARE NOT PRETTY SURE OF THAT YOU LIER!!!! ALL YOU ARE SURE OF IS YOUR LIES!!!!!!!!!!

        • m1nh0ca

          Man, you have serious problems…

    • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

it’s pretty sure it will be added eventually.

      • Shane Battle

not good enough, still being sold an incomplete system.

        • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

i understand your anger, but its called localisation and it’s normal, it doesn’t make the system incomplete, just not entirely localised which is already good that they are doing it.

          • Not_A_PC_Gamer

I would consider it incomplete if it’s a feature like that which I use all the time.

          • roozbeh, again

it seems the xbox one is being rushed a little.

          • Not_A_PC_Gamer

Maybe it seems like that because of all the constant backtracking? Not sure..

          • roozbeh, again

no, i think microsoft actually were on their word when they said that the kinect gave the 360 a 10 year life cycle. so they were probably doing a 2014-2015 launch. but sony surprised them. and they couldnt let sony have a one year lead.

          • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

and they replaced all broken unit under free extended warranty, so they repair the harm and have learn from it, why being afraid ? x1 is intended to be open 24hr/day for 10 years.

          • roozbeh, again

i aint afraid. im actually pretty sure rrod wont even happen

          • Bush O Connor

dont be saying that…RROD all over again if thats the case

          • roozbeh, again

no, that wont happen either. the console is well ventilated and quite big so rrod is almost certainly not happening again.

          • Bush O Connor

so was the original 360, rushed, big and well ventilated.

          • roozbeh, again

the 360 was not well ventilated. it was not big.
why you ask? i dont know. maybe because of japan

          • Bush O Connor

it sure was well ventilated. it was cheap thermal paste, bad design and been rushed out early that caused it.

          • roozbeh, again

the rushing had an effect no doubt but the ventilation was an issue. so was the thermal paste. and bad design.
the xbox one is a better design choice at least in hardware failure terms. it is big and full of vents.

          • BlessTheKid

Assumptions again. We won’t know until its in our homes. Hopefully there isn’t a RROD scare, or any other hardware malfunctions. Nonetheless, don’t judge the book by its ventilated cover.

          • roozbeh, again

no i dont make assumptions. i state probability. i can be wrong though

    • Not_A_PC_Gamer

The thing I don’t understand is why in the blue hell does MS even attempt to sell in other countries when they are way too U.S. centric. Not just in terms of programming but also with core features you just described. And why exactly are people in other countries who don’t have these features buying the Xbox One over the PS4? Besides just wanting to make money, MS business model isn’t very smart when it comes to dominating more than the U.S. and North America.

Personally If I lived in any country but the U.S. I would have went PS3 this entire generation instead of 360 which I did. I mean seriously I’m the type of guy that likes to explore every feature my consoles offer regardless if I use them on a regular basis or not. Canadians get the shaft too on a lot of things but no where near as bad as the rest of the world.

    • slasaru

Because you Australians speak very custom-sounding English ))

  • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

Well, to get this blog post back on topic. Very nice improvement in voice quality. The difference is easily noticeable. Any word on the adapter to plug old microphone that use regular jack. The thing is, like many user, i own a turtle beach headset which cost me some and i prefer to play with them on because i play at night while gf and kid is sleeping. It’s great to have a mic in the box, but to me, not the best solution.

  • Omar Daniel Lugo Zacarias

offtopic: Somebody knows whats nexts with GWG

    • beardyman3218

I think major nelson will announce this later today or tomorrow, he usually announces a day or two before but he has been really busy this week so i think tomorrow.

    • m1nh0ca

A guy posted a link above about a rumor saying one of them is Magic 2013… take a look.

  • moebiouz

oh well, Just have to wait a little longer, I guess. Still unsure of of why Australian won’t have voice support. The current Kinect has voice support for this country.

    • beardyman3218

I think there improving upon kinect 1′s voice recognition especially for the sign in feature it now has to determine who is who, its no easy task but i can understand if you feel let down by this, im sure when you get it you will pleased they did improve upon it.

  • DarkMaturus

Love the improvement!! Plus the headset is sweeeet looking. Props!

    • Not_A_PC_Gamer

Yeah but you’ll really want a pair of Astros, or at the very least some Turtle Beaches. Doesn’t matter what you choose as long as it has 5.1/7.1 surround sound simulated.

      • beardyman3218

Astros are good as are the titan headsets, they dont come close to a 5.1 sound system though, but if you want to be discrete while gaming in the late hours they are a great asset to have.

  • rhooper

Nothing to do with what’s posted here, but I know lots of people (like me) are curious: rumors say that the next free game will be Magic 2013.

Source (just add the dots): www oxm co uk/61337/septembers-first-free-xbox-game-with-gold-is-magic-the-gathering-2013-rumour/

    • m1nh0ca

Well, it’s an excellent game… but I already have the 2014 version.

So far, I was not lucky with Games with Gold… I didn’t have only Dead Rising 2 and Defense Grid. I hope it’s being a good deal for most of people.

      At least, I’m getting a backup…

    • boe2

It would be a weird choice. You are not suddenly going to get into building decks and buying cards because the game is free for 1 month. Magic fans already got the more recent version, others really won’t care.

    • roozbeh, again

      well thats… disappointing.
but hey it is at least a newer game compared to this month

    • martin_m95

      oh please no
major nelson please tell us these rumors are fake
      PLEASE

      • roozbeh, again

not official yet. but rumors at this stage tend to be true

        • martin_m95

if that turns out to be the game its gonna be another kick to the face by ms
even bigger than the one from defence grid

          • roozbeh, again

2 games a month at least.
hell this could be like case zero. there could be more games involved

          • martin_m95

making this game gwg on sep 1 will be like saying
“give us your money and well give away a game that nobody wants”
no offence to those who like it but im sure theyre very few

          • roozbeh, again

not very few, but they probably all have the 2014 edition now.

          • martin_m95

            oh believe me
there are very fell on xbox live that like card games and they probably have 2014 already and aint going to bother with 2013
this game aint special selected nor fan favourite

    • evilfangs .

So long as it’s a game I haven’t got or played I’ll be happy.

I want to try get at least 60000 GS before I move on to next gen.

  • Guest

Champ said that both was recorded with the standard Xbox One headset

    • roozbeh, again

      who?

  • roozbeh, again

    http://www.eurogamer net/articles/2013-08-30-playstation-4-bundle-contains-killzone-camera-second-pad-for-roughly-same-price-as-xbox-one

well microsoft is gonna do something about this. or sony just won europe

    • m1nh0ca

But Xbox wins only in North America, anyway… everywhere else PS3 sold more. I assume that with PS4 won’t be different.

      Just check VG Chartz:

      PlayStation 3 (PS3)
      North America: 26.99
      Europe: 31.48
      Japan: 9.45
      Rest of world: 10.88
      Total: 78.80

      Xbox 360 (X360)
      North America: 44.42
      Europe: 24.50
      Japan: 1.65
      Rest of world: 7.68
      Total: 78.25

I’ve waited some years to get my Xbox and I still prefer it over PS3 (as a console, because I’d rather not even commenting about PS+, which is a great idea).

I’ll do the same and wait a little before taking my decision.

      • roozbeh, again

xbox also won the uk aswell.
but what sony did is great, because ms is gonna try to one up them somehow now. whether that means more content in the box or price drop i dont care. this is good for us as gamers

        • BlessTheKid

How do you know if MS will try to 1up Sony? You don’t! For all we know, the Fifa bundle is it.

          • roozbeh, again

they will. im sure of it.

          • BlessTheKid

Just to be sure, do you work for MS or any of its affiliates?

          • roozbeh, again

negative. im just a stating what will obviously happen.

        • evilfangs .

I don’t think Microsoft will one up Sony. I think Microsoft has played all they trump cards and are out.

I am hoping that the Xbox one doesn’t fail because although I’ll be buying both PS4 and Xbox one, I don’t want to waste over £500 on the Xbox one only to see it fail.

    • Nick Peck

Europe is getting Fifa for free don’t forget, so it’s not like they aren’t doing anything. I honestly don’t care if we get a free game or not in the US, I have never had an issue with spending $100 more, but I know that’s just me.

      • roozbeh, again

yes i know. but the value for this ps4 bundle is more than the xbox one day one edition. they have an extra controller as well as killzone and the eye

      • BlessTheKid

I don’t think bundles will tip the scale. People usually know what they wont to buy before bundles are even announced. I think the question is: Are those consumers willing to wait until 2014 for an Xbox One, or will they simple buy the PS4? Sure some will wait, but I’m doubtful if most do.

        • Dennis Fluttershy

I (Sweden) won’t buy a console on release and will wait. So both consoles will be available before I buy one, if I even do buy one.

    • chiron69

Sony has already won Northern Europe (Scandinavia) when MS announced the Xbox One was going to be delayed because of language integration work. What was the point of the “Voicestudio” App really? Was it just a joke, maybe? If not, MS have had two or three years to fix it, and not lose their biggest games per person market in the world. (Scandinavia)

  • kingcrusher

It is better, my biggest hope is that it will allow a higher volume than it did before. But the clarity is definitely better.

  • roozbeh, again

you can unplug it at any time you desire.

  • Adinnieken

I think you have computer issues. I’ve used Skype on a 1.5Mbs connection with no problem in a video conference session between Europe and the US.

So, if Skype works via a 1.5Mbs connection, via a trans-Atlantic connection, which are notoriously constrained, then it’ll work for the average person, using an average speed connect, to their friends.

  • Corellianrogue

Not if those games use Kinect 2. Hopefully most games will use it and I hope that a lot of those are full-on Kinect 2 games. Truly next-gen games (and next-gen gamers) use next-gen controllers.

  • SpazldNinja

You don’t have to use it. As long as they are are built to not use it. If it’s a Kinect game, then you have to use it.
Also you don’t have to have the Kinect plugged in at all anymore.

  • SpazldNinja

I created my Skype account is Japan. But I live in England, those IP things show the IP where your account was created. Also I have had no issues with Skype. The only times it’s dropped out is because my internet literally stopped. Or PC issues.

    • TheMatthew562

No it is not the ip of where the account is created its the ip of where ever the account is being accessed from ive checked while i was in Los Angeles and it resolved the ip of where i was using skype atm when i got home resolved the ip after logging into skype it got the current ip from where i was using skype now at home this is gonna be a DDoS Party for people on xbox one.

      • SpazldNinja

Well mine says Japan…and I am most certainly not in Japan, and my account is not hacked. I know it’s not because it’s linked to my hotmail account, I can log into my hotmail with my Skype details, and there is not weird emails, and people only see my online when I am.

        • TheMatthew562

Mind giving me your skype id?

        • Dennis Fluttershy

I guess your accounts country says Japan. You can set that differently from your IP, and that has nothing to do with your IP (probably only during account creation).

  • chiron69

Sounds awesome! I only wish Steve B. and the Xbox dep. had taken the scandinavian languages into account during the past two or three years, so that all the Xbox fans in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland don’t have to get a PS4 when they want to buy their next-gen console this autumn.
Does anyone know if MS have set a date for the scandinavian release, btw? ;-)
I will survive with my 360 until then, but most of my friends are going for Sony, because the Xbox One got delayed. It’s sad to watch, really…. :-| But what can I do, except beg them to wait? They want next-gen, and they want it yesterday…. :-/

    • Daniel Lawson

It’s not region locked… but I thought it was weird that the countries were non Euro union

      • Dennis Fluttershy

Only Iceland and Norway of those 5 countries are not in the EU.

  • Cashley_Cole

Yay! Now I can hear what most CoD players have done with my mum with better quality sound!

  • http://twitter.com/#!/maxlimitz Max Limitz

I can here both versions just fine. The first one just sounds more tweaked.
