Demo, Marketplace By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Jarrod38

Didn’t know a demo was planned. Downloading it right now.

  • roozbeh, again

    I didn’t expect a demo.

  • ChintuPatel

i can’t do on web because You have no valid payment options on file.

    • Does Not Equal

Demos are free. You don’t have to pay for them.

      • roozbeh, again

You need a credit card to pay for it on the site

      • evilfangs .

Microsoft still hasn’t updated their site yet. It doesn’t give different payment options.

        • Does Not Equal

So download it via the console. You have to turn on the system to play it, anyway.

  • ElektroDragon

Argh! My copy of D3 for 360 is not coming until tomorrow!! Will I be able to refrain from trying this demo early?? Ugh, probably not.

    • Michael Burden

At least your progress/game save will carry over, so it will be like early access instead of a demo. Good way to get a head start.

      • Nick Peck

I was wondering if the 360′s progress would move to the XBO’s version when it comes out. I’m pretty tempted to get it as I did like it on the pc but would much rather play it on the 360.

Dang… trying to NOT spend anymore money lol.

        • The_Mad_Prophet

Is this actually confirmed for the XBO? or still just rumor?

          • Nick Peck

I don’t think so, but if they will do it for the ps systems I don’t see why they wouldn’t do it for the Xbox ones as well.

    • ryder4life22187

Should have picked it up from Toys R us they are doing a 40 dollar Gift card when you buy it so its almost like you paid 20 bucks for it.

  • Sledg

Idk, I have the PC version and haven’t played it in a long time. I was really disappointed playing that. I’m tempted to give it a try on console but I hope we’ll see Torchlight 2 on console soon.

    • ElektroDragon

T2 might come to next gen, but not current gen. The console version of D3 is all different than the PC version that I also have. For one, the loot is WAY better thanks to no auction house junk.

I actually STOPPED playing my D3 for PC halfway through when I heard about the console versions.

      • usrev

T2 isn’t coming to next gen atm, it’s coming to mac though =. hopefully it will come to next gen though it would do well on console. the only reason I didn’t get torchlight 1 was lack of co-op.

        • Jason Chase

I didn’t get Torchlight because the camera was wretched. I couldn’t rotate it, and when zoomed in, I was always behind an object!

  • Rafik Bouchaala

give us the GOnD version please!

  • ungeheier

Im shocked. Good call on a demo.

  • roozbeh, again

    Blizzard done good.

  • evilfangs .

No interest in buying but I’ll give the demo a go. It comes out on next gen consoles too doesn’t it? If I like the demo and it does I might buy it on next gen.

    • SoulSnatcha

Right now, only slated for PS4. Blizzard said they aren’t looking at the Xbox One at this time because they didn’t get the dev kits in time. Hopefully they worked that out and will go forward with a XBO edition.

  • Morris ヅ

why do i need a payment method to download free stuff and demos? major try sort this issue out.

    • evilfangs .

Microsoft hasn’t updated their website yet so it won’t allow you to change payment methods. It should work fine on your console, just hit X to change payment options.

      • Morris ヅ

        thnks

  • LarZen

Surprised how good it was to play with a controller, missing some of the precision you get with a mouse on ranged targets of course. But If I had to pick either the console or pc version I would not think twice about getting the console version.

Blizzard has done a great job here, if you have not tested the demo yet go get it! :)

    • Patrick William Clemenger

You can target ranged with LT.

  • Jason Chase

This demo is for GOLD users only. Us silver users are left out (again). You should update to reflect this, you might get people hyped and leave them out in the cold. (were I in the #teammjrnelson running, you would have had this feedback before releasing the demo)

    • evilfangs .

Doesn’t sliver members get demos a couple of weeks after gold members?

      • http://www.majornelson.com Major Nelson

One week. I used to add it to every post I did on a demo but it took up a bunch of room. Plus it tells you Gold is required on Xbox.com.

        • Jason Chase

Ah. We’re still doing that, are we? I think early demo availability can be an incentive for people to go to gold, but only if the demo is pre-release.

This demo should have been a pre-release demo. The user should have been (as a gold member) able to download the demo and pre-level their character (even at a max lvl 10) leading up to release. That would have given the user both an incentive to download the demo, as well as to be a gold member!

If the demo is post-release, it’s more of an incentive to make it public for all, as the demo is supposed to act as a motivator to purchase the game, instead of skipping the demo altogether and just renting the game from Redbox.

        • Death Dealer

I kind of have to agree with Jason here Major. I know MS are balancing the load on the network for demos by letting half your customer base download it one week and the rest the next, but this is indeed a demo of a game that’s already been out on another platform for quite some time and the Xbox 360 version is already out at retail.
Could you give a notice to the team that we do like the prospect of Gold exclusive demos but only when they aren’t out on other platforms at the same time and the full release isn’t already in stores.

  • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

i guess they are seeking for new audience, d2 and d1 player were pretty disapointed by that version. Including myself. Too so long to only get that. Couldn’t find the same fun that older version still can deliver

  • michael mashburn

played d3 on pc beat it once thats it game is done no need to buy it on xbox

    • m1nh0ca

      Sorry, sir, but you’re wrong.

      It’s almost another game.

      • michael mashburn

no you beat it on pc you beat it on xbox same game its a waste of 60

        • m1nh0ca

Ah, ok, for sure it’s a waste of 60 bucks.
          When it’s 10 – 15 will be much better.

        • Patrick William Clemenger

No auction house & the comfort of couch co-op makes this amazing port well worth the price of admission.

  • David K

When is this coming to Games on Demand?

    • beardyman3218

It depends on whether the studio wants to push the digital version if so anywhere form 2 weeks to 2 months after release, the same way payday 2 was.

    • SoulSnatcha

      It’s already available.

  • Liquidfx Xboxdude

its pretty good. rented it from gamefly. however, it is not as good as the hype.

    • Patrick William Clemenger

Giving any credence to hype sounds like a personal problem. lol

  • tabicat

Yes, this is really annoying. Please fix this.

  • Sledg

I ended up downloading the demo and really enjoyed it. I wish I would have played this version instead of the PC. Of course, Blizzard learned a lot since then but it’s a nice port.

  • Death Dealer

Couch co-oping this is fun! Saw on Digital Foundry it’s the best version on 360 too, so I’m going to get this soon after I finish GTA5!

  • beardyman3218

Off topic: Is a VR headset in the works for xbox one?

    • Death Dealer

      An AR one is, Fortaleza.
The thing about VR is that it is VERY expensive if you want a good one that truly gives you a good experience. It will be quite some time before we see Oculus Rift like devices be totally affordable for the mainstream and I don’t think MS will invest into a €500+ optional headset for a small market yet. They’ll probably have a better chance marketing the illumiroom once the price becomes more affordable.
Plus Fortaleza is said to have a lot of Google Glass features, so that could be something the mainstream public would opt for faster too.

      • beardyman3218

I would be very happy if it supported the rift.

        • Dylan

The only console make to say something about it is Sony. I think it was Yoshida that said he loved the rift.
Though there are rumors that Sony has their own VR in the works

I hope one of the consoles support it, just so it becomes a huge success and we can get it everywhere.

With John Carmack there now, I have no doubts that it’ll take off. Just needs a little help.

          • beardyman3218

The thought of rift and kinect working together is mouth watering, i hope it happens, it needs to happen.

          • roozbeh, again

It has happened. Look up the BBC special about the rift.

They remade paperboy with the rift and kinect

          • beardyman3218

That is simply amazing thanks for the info.

          • roozbeh, again

I think both will support it at some point.
If Sony’s solution isn’t the HMZ

        • Nick Peck

I never got into the “headset” gaming craze. I’d much rather just look at my tv and play as sitting in my house with a helmet on my dome just doesn’t appeal to me at all.

I have a feeling that the VR stuff will go by the wayside like 3D is starting too, just isn’t worth the investment imo. Hey if that is what you like, I hope you get it and enjoy the heck out of it :)

          Just not for me! Enjoy.

      • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

oculus rift ain’t that expensive but there is no point right now

  • beardyman3218

I am not into mmo’s as a lot of them i see on pc are just pay to win type models. I am glad there is a demo for this, looking forward to trying it out.

    • Steve

      Diablo isn’t an MMO.

      • Dylan

With the always-online requirement on PC, I can see where someone can get confused.

        • beardyman3218

Yes i was sure it was an mmorpg, i stand corrected. I tried the demo and really enjoyed it but with gta coming i cant see myself buying it, if it come out on xbox one i will buy it on xbox one.

  • martin_m95

damn i miss the old diablos which were actually good

    • Nick Peck

I never like the other two, but like this one.. go figure :p However, I get bored of games that require you to beat it like 3 times to max out. However, this demo is really solid, much better than I thought it would be.

Beat the pc one several times but got bored of it since getting good gear is next to impossible. I might give the 360 version a shot.

      • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

the rush of adrenaline in d3 is nearly non existant compare to a rush in d2x

        • Nick Peck

That’s fine for you big fans of the series, but I just plain and simple did not like the first two games at all :) I understand where you guys are coming from, but I just don’t feel that way because I like how D3 plays.

          • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

yah thats cool dude. Wasn’t bad, just not as authentic. I was freaked out when they announce D3 and i was the only one in my friend group to have tried it and maybe thats part of the disapointment. The skill tree and stat progression were so dumped down that it remove the freedom of creating weird class based on gear.

  • martin_m95

hey since they made diablo 3 for 360 will they nake 360 version of world of warcraft too

    • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

i would prefer to see much better mmo game being adapted on xbox one

      • martin_m95

your right but think about it
it will be some funny sh*t

    • roozbeh, again

And pay $180/year above the paywall for gold?
      NO WAY!

      • martin_m95

why would they increase the cost of gold

        • roozbeh, again

Warcraft has a sub. $180/year. add that to the $35/year for my gold and my simple displeasure for WoW I think it is best it stays off consoles

          • beardyman3218

Im thinking the same thing about elder scrolls online as well, £15 a month on top of gold, not interested in it at all now.

          • LarZen

Not all console players are poor or greedy.

          • roozbeh, again

No I agree, not all console gamers are greedy.
But the price of WoW is just too damn much for the huge majority

          • Jan Václavík

AFAIK, FFXI did not require Gold.

          • roozbeh, again

I know. But WoW would probably require it

  • https://twitter.com/Ganon255 Ganon255

it’s pretty lame you only use weapons as stat modifiers for skills

  • John T Greene

its very good game to play a good taste of a action

  • Patrick William Clemenger

Wait, I thought the demo only had two classes?

    • Nick Peck

Nope, it’s the “full game” up until the Skeleton King. You can play online and local co-op as well.

      • Patrick William Clemenger

Weird, when I started I could have sworn they only allowed me to choose Barbarian or Wizard…Do you have to do something to unlock the ability to play as the others like play as either of those two first or was I just stupid?

        • Nick Peck

Yah you are right, there is only the two classes. I could swear I saw the other ones when I zipped by it quickly… Nope, I’m the stupid one lol, sorry about that. /hitselfinface…

  • evilfangs .

Tried this demo and wow this game is good. Been playing it for like maybe 4-5 hours now. Will be picking this up on next gen for sure.

    • evilfangs .

Tried both available classes and I find the warrior type better then that mage.

Shame we can’t try the other classes.

I’ll have to wait 2 years+ for when I get my PS4 or hope it comes out for Xbox one within them two years.

  • jab106

bah, i like the demo but it seemed like i flew past the first boss. might have to pick it up.

  • Korahn

I enjoyed this demo more than the PC demo. I’ll likely pick it up when there’s a price drop. I’d get it now, but will be a little per-occupied once GTA V comes out.

  • Mark Maloney

    marketplace link is broken :(

    • Mark Maloney

Seriously @majornelson? Not even a reply of working in it… We’re look into it…sorry about that. Details coming…. At least make me feel like you care.

      • ZenFranklin

Relax man, if they weren’t on a huge media tour, and prepping for the Xbox One release, I’m sure he would reply to all he could.

    • Mark Maloney

Working again. :) Thank you for fixing it M$.

  • Lenonn

I’d rather have this on the XBox One. Hoping we get some sort of confirmation of a XBOne version (assuming they’re making one).

    • John T Greene

its going to be on ps4 only not xbox one they said this already

      • Lenonn

Doesn’t mean it won’t happen at some point. Just because they haven’t announced one yet.

  • ZenFranklin

Dungeon crawlers traditionally aren’t huge in terms of graphics. It’s all about the gameplay. Did you try the demo at least?
