Xbox 360, Xbox Live By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • BigBernard

I’m sure all 5 Xbox 360 owners in Japan will be delighted to have to wait an extra month compared to everyone else.

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

oh come on, its at least 6 or 7.

      • evilfangs .

7 Japan people around 1 rented Xbox 360 console.

        • roozbeh, again

The renter is on friends list.

          • Kevin Du

i should report your gt for abusing the gwg promotion, as you have admitted yourself here-stop trolling every topic here

  • Stefan Gabbert

What`s the reason for that? To mess up the GTA5 Servers even more? Oh wait…can it get worse?

    • just1legend

That’s widespread man. Nice job trollin…..(smh)

  • Rafik Bouchaala

since when Malaysia, Egypt, Philippines, Thailand and vietnam are supported xbox live countries?

    • just1legend

You hatin on third world countries man? Come on, they had XBL for at least 2 years.

      • Rafik Bouchaala

oh really? what about I’m from a third world country (Tunisia) and I’ve been using xbox live since 2006 :p

        • just1legend

And yet you are hating on other Third world countries because now have XBL. Microsoft is just expanding to other countries that wasn’t possible in their infrastructure like Egypt (pre-dictatorship) and the Philippines (once PS only)

      • Yuan Taizong

They’re not 3rd world countries, all of them are reasonable wealthy, and the term ”3rd world” shouldn’t be used after 1991.

  • roozbeh, again

What are the naysayers gonna say?

    • Sledg

It’s not like BigBernard, Liquidfx Xboxdude, evelfangs, etc… would come on here and say anything negative about a free weekend of Live. I mean why would anyone have something negative to say about a free weekend of Live?

      • roozbeh, again

That was not directed at them

        • evilfangs .

Lol my valid argument got deleted, guess that’s the only kind of people who come here are them sorts of people.

          • Sledg

blah, blah, blah… can’t take a joke blah, blah, blah…

The fanboy reference is funny to me so keep it up. It only makes you look desperate. Who said I agreed with everything MS does? The big difference is I don’t come on here every day to pitch the same disagreement over and over.

    • http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?u=324759 Tylerh1701

      Nay.

    • Guest

Just call them crybabies as that is what they are. Cheap *ss Gamers being paupers and expect to sit on the front row for a nickel.

    • boe2

Andd so you keep deliberately trying to start flamewars. You must be very proud.

      • roozbeh, again

Give me a break, is this really starting a flamewar?

  • roozbeh, again

    Since when is Vietnam supported?

  • Florida Tryhard

Great now were going to have all these extra noobs on the Battlefield 4 Beta

  • Yuan Taizong

    Hell yeah.

  • Jorge Garza

I believe that 90% of the people on this blog have gold subscriptions, 9% are trolls that don’t even have and Xbox and the other 1% have silver accounts. I’m good with Xbox Live Gold until July 2014, but I guess it’s cool for people with silver accounts.

  • disqus_icUCvMAJ5v

A free weekend is fine, not a bad idea. I’m just still upset that Xbox One is going to be significantly less powerful than the PS4

    • EldritchWarlord

      Not significantly.
There’s really not much grounds to compare the two consoles at this point, sure MS and Sony both gave the FLOPS (no pun intended) their console can do but we don’t know the benchmark they used. Sony has yet to reveal the actual specs that PS4 uses, plus MS has improved the Xbox One’s specs since the reveal.
Furthermore one key factor is the difference in architecture. PS3′s complex architecture held it back early on last gen though it was clearly the more powerful console. PS4 doesn’t seem to be making the same mistake. However, if MS’s claims are true Xbox One uses a simple, well-known architecture that has been modified to allow for a great deal more optimization than before and this will allow developers to make up for the raw power gap.
Anyway, at worst were looking at PS4 being less than 50% more powerful. Not a negligible gap, but with the sort of graphical fidelity that modern games are delivering it won’t be that noticeable.

      • disqus_icUCvMAJ5v

50% is a lot. This whole thing about games being more important than specs is the same argument used by Nintendo when they launched the very underpowered Wii. I’m not so Impressed with the PS4 lineup so far but we’re going to come to a point where developers are just doing things on that console that they can’t do on the Xbox One. One thing I know is if I do buy Xbox One I’ll probably have to buy PS4 down the road. Microsoft built it’s Xbox brand on making a powerful console. Now it looks like they want me to pay more for a console that is less capable than the console their competitor is launching and they’re charging an extra 100 dollars for it so they can force a camera that watches me so their advertising partners can know when I’m on and shove ads down my throat. I’m disappointed by what Microsoft is doing. I’ll have to think about whether or not I’m buying the console.

    • Sledg

Are you an expert in hardware? Did you design either system? Are there real numbers out for each system yet? I didn’t think so!

I guess we’ll find out more about the hardware this weekend. Although, I doubt it’ll cover everything.

      • disqus_icUCvMAJ5v

I’m not a hardware, “expert” but I am educated and I am familiar with computer hardware. Familiar enough to understand that the competition is giving more computer for less money!

What’s most telling though is Microsoft’s spin on this. If the consoles were about even in power they would just come out and say it. The fact that they haven’t speaks volumes.

There have also been multiple press releases telling us how they are increasing GPU power? And still they can’t come out and say their console will be the equivalent of it’s competition. Again, if it was they would just say it, then it would be independently verified and the argument would be over.

Then Phil Harrison comes out and says the cloud will handle processing and that’s what the equalizer is supposed to be. Of course it’s already the consensus of most experts that the latency of the internet inhibits it from actually making any meaningful processing contribution to a game that’s running in real time on the users end.

So, it’s not even really an argument that Xbox One is less powerful than the PS4, Microsoft in a round about way has actually acknowledged it. Now they are simply engaging in damage control. As a gamer I do have reservations about buying a more expensive console that’s less capable and paying more for the privilege of having a Kinect camera that I don’t really want.

The question remains, how much of a difference will this make in the games themselves? I can’t know that for sure until they systems come out and we start seeing games. I imagine they will look pretty similar at first and then over time PS4 versions will have the advantage as devs learn to exploit the added resources of the PS4.

Does this mean I won’t buy Xbox One? I’m not sure. I may still buy it, but I do have cause for concern with the platform. Before the Xbox One reveal I was down for a new Microsoft console without a question. Now I’m just not sure.

  • Mikael Soltaniha

What do already-Gold members get? Nothing..? Oh.. ok. :[

    • roozbeh, again

    • Samuelxc

  • GmailIsDown

  • roozbeh, again

I’m an iranian who has gold via prepaid cards.
Khak to saret. Nemidonesti card ham midan?

  • disqus_icUCvMAJ5v

Lots of us care. A computers specifications determine what a developer can do with it. The more system resources the more they can put into their game. Pretending like the power of the computer being used isn’t important is just silly. And they console is 100 dollars more!

I’m not impressed by the lineup Sony has either. I can’t picture myself looking forward to a Killzone game ever! But eventually multiplatform games are going to look better on the PS4 than they do on the Xbox One. So if I buy an Xbox One am I going to need to by a PS4 down the road?? it’s a valid question.

So, MS is releasing a less powerful console than their competitors, they aren’t even disputing that. And they are charging an extra 100 for a Kinect camera. I know a lot of gamers and none of them like Kinect. What I’m reading is that it’s basically a tool for Microsoft’s advertising partners to target advertisements to specific users.

So, I pay more for a less capable console, so MS can make money off me by telling it’s advertising partners when I’m on the machine.

Now of course many will argue that I can simply turn off the camera, and if I buy an Xbox One that’s what I’ll do. However, I’m still out an extra 100 dollars for a console that isn’t as powerful as the PS4 at 399.00

I’m not a fanboy, I have 360 and a PS3. My go to console this gen has been my 360. And I don’t like the idea of playing shooters with that stupid Sony controller with symmetrical analog sticks.

  • Burnt Offering

To bad it doesn’t seem to be working for all silver members.

  • Shawn Strack

I have a great idea. How about unlocking it FOR GOOD! At least let us play our online free of charge. I don’t mind paying for the other services but it’s a disgrace to the gaming community to force us to pay to play the other half of the games that we already payed good money for. Not everyone can pay for gold. Basically your telling us if we can’t pay for online then maybe we shouldn’t be gaming in the first place

I have been gaming since I was 8 (I am 32 now) and it has become so hard to continue putting money into gaming. I don’t want to give up what I love doing but forcing us to spend so much money just to do what we love is asinine.

I would love to sell my Xbox and be done with it but I have spent so much money on DLC’s and XBLA games that doing so would be just as much of a waste as forcing us to buy gold memberships.

I think its time MS took a long hard look at what they are doing to the people that have made you butt loads of money and that is us gamers. Give back a little and give us our online gamin for free!

    • roozbeh, again

I support this, I really do.
But with the direction sony has taken it seems it will not stop

  • Azrul Nizam Ali

Yes, we can already use a Malaysian Xbox Live account but Gold upgrade option is not yet available. And this Free Live Gold Weekend doesn’t work for Malaysian account. It;s good that Microsoft also recognizes Malaysia but we need Live Gold to play online too!

  • Ron
