  • m1nh0ca

Quick question: is GTA V as boring as GTA IV?

    • evilfangs .

      No.

      • todd Wright

        i think it is

    • todd Wright

omg you’re the only person that also thinks gta is boring

      • m1nh0ca

It’s not boring from the very beginning… but it gets boring when you get the same kind of missions over and over again or when you fail and have to drive all the way back to the point you were (cab is not always available). As a sandbox game, I think it’s too linear as well.

On the other hand, playing without being stuck to the missions is another experience, not counting that GTA is always a technical achievement. Kudos for the developers!

    • Swat

That’s up-to you. Only you can form your own opinion.

      • m1nh0ca

That’s exactly the case… my opinion goes against most of people…

GTA IV is funny to play without doing the missions, just messing everything up. If we play it seriously, it gets too repetitive, linear and way too long to get things done. If we fail a mission, for example, it’s a pain to go back there (sometimes we don’t have the cab) and restart… this kills the pace of the game for me.

        • Liquidfx Xboxdude

I didn’t like the main character all that much. that was my biggest problem. the characters from gta5 are awesome.

    • https://twitter.com/Ganon255 Ganon255

Nope, V is a hell of a game.

      • m1nh0ca

        Well… gotta try it then…

        • https://twitter.com/Ganon255 Ganon255

Yeah, I’d at least rent or borrow it. The game has HBO/Showtime quality writing and amazing attention to detail. When I play it I marvel at how many man-hours it must have took to create it.

I gotta say, I wasn’t all that the impressed with IV myself and found it a bore and chore to play.

    • roozbeh, again

      In short, best GTA ever.
Buy it, it’s so much better than IV

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

I feel on that. gta 4 wasn’t as good as I thought it was going to be after san andreas but omfg gta 5 makes up for that a million times over. I have played for 20 or so hours and only done 3 missions, I have just been exploring the city and riding around. good way to let off some steam after work or just relax period.

      • usrev

        San andreas >GTA 5 (barely)>Vice city>GTA 3> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GTA 4.

4 was bad and a mess. I still prefer san andreas but GTA 5 is a great game. it’s also the first online gta I can see myself playing

  • Swat

Now you can’t say that Halo isn’t dead.

    • Clattus

Yep, almost as bad as Gears of War Judgement in relation to Gears 3.

      • usrev

halo has been on a downward spiral for a long time now.

3 was worse than 1 and 2 but still a decent game

odst was bad, it should have been a $20 dlc.

        reach was bad

        halo 4 is terrible.

        • Swat

“odst was bad, it should have been a $20 dlc.”

You can blame Micro$oft for that stupid price tag.

          • Bush O Connor

Bungie made it as an Arcade game, microsoft decided to sell it as retail.
as far as i remember i only paid $30 for it.

        • avi

          odst was not bad.
the price should have been lower, but the campaign was rock-solid. firefly cast, great voicing, strong story, moody atmosphere, and firefight was awesome.

          • usrev

it’s story was forgettable and wan’t even worth replaying. you were basically the same as a spartan. stealth was impossible as silenced weapons did nothing but change sound in game. it was impossible to sneak past enemies to any meaningful degree.

the only remotely enjoyable part was the world design, which is still the most open halo game world. but that doesn’t make up for the lackluster story

the problem is, reach and halo 4 are so bad that people remember ODST as good. instead of the garbage that it was.

            oh

firefight mode was garbage in ODST. it didn’t even have matchmaking. it was literally the same EXACT waves over and over again. after wave 5 or something. I had 3-4 friends who got the game on release and we tried to play firefight and like it many times, I mean, gears of warhorde and nazi zombies were fun, why not halo.
but no, it was bad. real bad. it was slow and drawn out with only 1 good map.

they could have done something special for multiplayer, instead, halo 3 again. the insult to halo fans who already bought the map packs for something like $40 in total was to give people who bought ODST all the maps for cheap, plus early access to another map iirc. I guess the upside was it meant a few months later when the price of ODST tanked you could buy the halo 3 dlc cheap since it came on the ODST disk but still bad.

          • Bush O Connor

ODST was a great game which should have been sold as an expansion pack to halo3. great campaign and one of the very best soundtracks to any game ever made imho.

same with Reach great campaign, brilliant soundtrack and very well built nice and solid, only the multiplayer side of Reach was a let down(good but not great).

Halo4 should have been brought out under a different name. we all got fooled thinking we were paying for halo and we got call of duty 2557.

        • Clattus

Obviously all the games(except maybe Halo 4) since Halo and 2 are not “worse” but a better word would be progressively less fresh or innovative. Halo 3 still greatly expanded the Halo formula almost as much as 2. ODST was overpriced but still offered a much needed different take with a more creative campaign and firefight. Reach refined all aspects putting in “amor abilities” and is quite a bit different from 3 in terms of multiplayer.

Halo 4 ruined everything. Still to say it’s been on a downward spiral the whole time makes no sense. It only got significantly worse since Halo 4. With COD as well as other “annual” games the decline is more applicable.

          • usrev

halo 1 was a masterpiece. you could easily play it for months if you had friends

halo 2 was great. you could easily play it for months if had friends. it wasn’t as good as the original, but most people didn’t enjoy halo CE since no matchmaking. it also had some of the best maps in halo. but for those who play halo 1 in system link glory it’s hard to say it’s better.

halo 3 was worse than halo 2 but added forge and theater. sadly both modes are underutilized. Forge to this day is useless without a custom game search. halo 3 is the only good current gen halo game. but it was still worse than 2.

halo ODST was garbage as I explained before. they took halo 3 (which was already bad by comparison to the original) gave it a bit of an open world. made a really boring horde clone, then half assed their way to fanboy love. halo ODST was literally halo 3 with a slightly open world and firefight. there isn’t a significant difference and the game still feels halo even though you aren’t suppose to be a spartan.

halo Reach managed to be better than ODST, but that isn’t hard. the campaign wasn’t bad but multplayer changed significantly. Forge improved but it was still useless since you can’t start a custom game on a custom map and have random people join as you play. armor abilities damaged multiplayer, sprint made melee more annoying, armor lock made vehicles less fun to drive etc.halo reach got boring after a few weeks, compared to halo 1and 2 lasting months. armor abilities tried to bring new fun to the game but failed.

halo 4 managed to take reach and make everything worse. they basically did the opposite of what fans wanted. for the first time, a halo game had a terrible story. terrible single player experience. Forge is about the same as reach but you know still not custom game search so it’s STILL useless. this could have actually saved halo 4. firefight is replaced by spartan ops which is ok. but strange as firefight in reach was a great improvement over the trash of ODST. the multiplayer is similar to halo reach but somehow they made it more boring. halo 4 was the only halo game I traded in the week I got it. after being bored and beating single player I helped a friend run through in co-op on normal, he hated it too and since no one else liked the single player enough to want to replay it, and the multiplayer was bad I got $40 trade in credit and felt bad for passing on the garbage to someone else.

what will halo 5 bring? honestly it will probably be halo 4 with stunning visuals but not bring back the glory days of the first 2. it’s pathetic how bad halo has become when it was loved by so many.

          • Clattus

The appeal of Halo was that it was the first game so everything was fresh and new, you’re just confusing nostalgia for quality/progress. Many of the actual “problems” of the balancing of weapons, campaign, maps ect.. were improved in each of the successive sequels of Halo minus 4. Something new or interesting was offered and/or what was there was improved upon in every game. If they would have kept Halo the same it would have been closer to what happened to the Call of Duty franchise.

Besides this I have no interest in Halo 5 after they messed up 4.

        • Dylan

I could argue ODST is the best Halo game since 1. It got a lot of flak for its price tag.

But it had the BEST musical score, the only game since 1 with a real sense of tone, a different perspective/different gameplay, and real vulnerable characters to care about. And it wasn’t a save the world plot! But it still mattered.

ODST was a really grounded game, and was really refreshing. Reach tried to replicate many of the same things, but didn’t do as well.

    • avi

Well, I don’t blindly defend 343 industries, but I do enjoy playing halo 4 and I dig the game. I just believe that the company should design future games more based on mp formula set by bungie with halo 2 and halo 3.
Scrap the armor abilities, bring back the equipment, and put camo back on the map as a pick-up.

Oh yeah, and give us a beta for the next halo game.

  • Juhis815

How Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 can still stay at the Top 3? Aren’t people getting tired of playing Black Ops 2, and should go playing something else?

    • Swat

CoDs population is made up of mostly kids aged 8 – 14 so it will never get old to them.

    • ryder4life22187

For me at least I play with a bunch of guys from work so might be the case for others. But now that I played the Beta for Battlefield 4 will probably change that as that demo gave me a better feeling than BF3 ever did.

    • usrev

they numbers are taken by “did someone play this game this week”

so lets say you don’t consider yourself a cod play, but you have it. and I and someone else are messing around in cod. and you join us. you would have contributed to this list, whether you played 100 matches or just 1, heck, even if you say at the title screen

the “cod players are kids” argument is just plain wrong. I know some people who play it, they are far from children, when you want to play a shooter for 30 minutes cod is a good choice as you can get a few games in.

      • Bush O Connor

nobody on my friends list seems to play CoD anymore and they’re all diehard cod fans. i would be the only one playing battlefield and everyone else playing CoD.
i have not seen anyone playing it in a long time, they mostly play fifa now and gta the last 2 weeks.

        • usrev

after 2 big titles came out it’s no wonder.

but I frequently see people play it for a game or 2.

  • Anderson

@majornelson, when gta 5 will be available on demand?

    • Caught_an_FPS

The game is not to be installed on an HD so probably never.

    • Rafik Bouchaala

Probably a month after physical release like Diablo 3. I couldn’t keep waiting anf simply bought the game from a store. I installed the first disc to the hard drive and the second disc to a good usb stick. The game run perfectly without any pop ups issues and I don’t have to worry about kids moving the console while I’m playing since the disc doesn’t spin :)

  • NBA Kirkland

    RIP GFWL.

  • roozbeh, again

    Damn minecraft…

  • jab106

lol, i’m mad the fifa 14 demo is in the top 20. rofl

  • safdf

I’m impressed TMNT is among the top places, the game is so buggy and so generic I would only buy it for less than $6, and I’m a TMNT fan since the 80s

  • DallasNZ

I’m surprised the Free to Play WSOP: Full House Pro Poker didn’t make the list…

    • Sledg

Maybe f2p games don’t count? Because I can’t believe that either.

      • evilfangs .

#14 – Ascend: Hand of kul is free isn’t it?

Same with Rainbow 6 at #18?

        • Sledg

Good catch, I didn’t even see Ascend.

    • xPutNameHerex

F2P games can’t be “purchased”, so they don’t make the arcade list (since that is based on full versions purchased). The only way for them to show is to be one of the top 20 Xbox 360 games played in the week (based on the unique number of users who signed on in the week), which will be tough even for a F2P depending on the game.

  • angeezy

    RIP gears of war :(

    • Death Dealer

Yeah and they screwed up the ribbons again for Judgment events too, just like they did with 3. Absolute poor show from Epic.

      • Dennis Crosby

I think gears will make a comeback maybe with new characters new story line

  • Ben Hyatte

This report is kind of weird because “EA SPORTS FIFA 14 Downloadable Demo” is included. Also, Ascend: Hand of Kul is an arcade game not a retail game.

How come it isn’t included in the top Arcade list?

Either more arcade games should be on the top Live titles or it should be on the top Arcade title list…

    • usrev

      they always include demos

the top list is “most played titles” not retail.

the arcade list are most BOUGHT titles.

I remember way back i the day the bad company 1 demo was the 2nd or 3rd most played game on xbox live. I think BF4 will follow suit when open beta starts friday

      • Ben Hyatte

So do free games not count on the arcade list? How does the Walking Dead count and not other F2P?

There must be some strange gray area if Ascend: Hand of Kul is a most played game (beating every other arcade game) and not being a top purchased/downloaded title on the Arcade list.

        • m1nh0ca

F2P = microtransactions + Gold and online required.

People can buy Arcade games not being Gold and may play them offline. It’s all about purchasing, not playing.

The Walking Dead (thanks God) is not a F2P, even it’s distributed for free now.

  • EldritchWarlord

As a Halo fan I’m sad to see it drop below the top 10, but there’s still a pretty large player base. You can still find a match of Big Team Battle in just a few minutes, really that’s all I require.
So I guess you can keep hating on Halo if that’s your thing.

    • Liara T’soni

No I can’t, there is 3 Call of duties above it.

      • roozbeh, again

There will always be bored 12 year olds

      • dibils

you do realize multiple people can play the same game right? just cause COD is top or 2nd doesnt mean people who play COD dont play anything else lmao. all the top 20 games you can find games easily, and thats all that matters in the end

  • Swat

Wow majorfag. I love that you deleted my comment about Halo 4 being a terrible Halo game.

    • Guest

      How old are you again?

  • Verachi

    Learn from your mistakes 343i.

  • Swat

Yep. Keep deleting ma comments about Halo 4 being a terrible game Major. How sad.

    • roozbeh, again

I think he deleted your comments because of the amount of insults and slurs found within them

      • Swat

My first comment about Halo 4 was nothing more than an opinion and had zero insults so there was no reason for him to delete other than defending the game sales.

    • Alex

      Sales numbers say otherwise.

  • a fat mess

Hopefully GTA V can stay on top of this list instead of BO2 and Ghosts when it comes out. GTA V actually deserves the top spot. Sad to see Halo not even in the top ten anymore though…

    • evilfangs .

Major Nelson said in his pod cast that GTA 5 was #1 before GTA online even came out. I’m pretty sure GTA 5 will stay #1 for a while now with everyone playing online too.

  • Bush O Connor

will we ever get indie games here in ireland?

  • http://twitter.com/williamronholm WillRon

    Halo 4 is 11th? Crazy.

  • Swat

It has a comment box meaning I can leave opinions if I wish to.

  • dibils

cause its impossible to be a noob in COD
