Xbox One By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • roozbeh, again

I know that Surface purchase was worth something. :p

Aren’t they supposed to change the name as well? I think the Sky group won some sort of name battle and MS has to change the name now

  • Guest

So the name is still SkyDrive? Aren’t they supposed to change that?

    • Nick Peck

I think that’s just up north even though it’s NOTHING like the stupid cable company lol. I find the reasoning completely stupid, but oh well, I don’t live up there so it won’t bother me.

  • bill

Hmmm, pretty cool. Can you create a party and chat or skype and look at photos together with others over xbox live?

    • Death Dealer

I think that’s already possible with the Skype integration.

  • ElektroDragon

Well its official, its a Windows 8 PC with a fancy camera that can play exclusive games.

    • Timothy Shilleto

my windows 8 pc does alot more then xbox one but its still cool app

    • roozbeh, again

      So short sided…

One app makes it Windows 8? Really?

      • ElektroDragon

Not, not one app, have you seen the nearly identical Metro UI and all the OTHER apps?

        • roozbeh, again

So what? it has a kernel. That don’t make it exactly Windows 8. And just because it has tiles doesn’t mean it is Windows 8.

          • beardyman3218

My android phone also has tiles, its still an android. This is an xbox.

          • ElektroDragon

No it doesn’t. Android has icons, not tiles.

          • beardyman3218

Mine has tiles as its running a launcher so yes it has tiles and its still android.

          • ElektroDragon

The kernel and UI of an OS essentially define that OS, so thanks for proving my point for me.

          • roozbeh, again

How about we agree to a stalemate and stop continuing this. Because obviously I can’t change your mind, and you can’t change mine.

          • ElektroDragon

            OK

        • Nick Peck

Well considering they are going for a whole ecosystem to look and work mostly in the same way, why would it look totally different? If it’s like Win 8 / 8.1 I’m totally fine with it, fastest and easiest UI/OS ever, love it.

  • http://www.luca-pisanu.com/ Luca

Nice! I’m starting using skydrive and i have to say it’s amazing! Anyway it’s a plus for this console if you use or not.

  • Anonymous

I thought the Xbone was supposed to be a GAMING console not a miniature PC.

    • http://www.luca-pisanu.com/ Luca

It’s plenty of videos with games on it :) trust me

    • Gazza!!!

Hows that rock you live under? Numerous reveals, press releases have focused on the xbone being an all in one entertainment center hence the name “xbox one”

    • usrev

when they announced the xbox one they only showed like 3 games. it’s trying to be an all in one device.

sorta like what the ps3 was trying to be in the beginning.

  • Death Dealer

Excellent! The more integration with all of MS’s services, the better. But it needs to be more than photos and videos. Music needs to be there and I’d like Office viewer apps too at some point. A PowerPoint viewer for example would make the Xbox One very versatile in Office spaces.

    • Anonymous

I’m guessing you lack a computer.

      • Death Dealer

        You guessed wrong. I have 7 PC’s.

        • Anonymous

Then why would you want more M$ services on the Xbox?

          • Timothy Shilleto

more is better in some cases that is

          • Anonymous

Not if you’re forced to pay for all those services which you won’t be using.

          • Timothy Shilleto

im not forced to pay for anything

          • Anonymous

You are if you wish to play on XBL

          • Timothy Shilleto

no im not forced to do that
same goes for psn as well

  • http://instantnyc12.tumblr.com/ Terrence Aybar

I’m all for SkyDrive on Xbox One but you should be able to do more with it on the new system than you can currently on the Xbox 360. At the very least, you should be able to upload photos from the SkyDrive to your console. For instance, it would’ve been nice to be able to make a custom background from a SkyDrive rooted pic than only being able to look at it.

    • Death Dealer

It would be great for backgrounds indeed, but the Bing daily image is something that would be great for that too.

      • http://instantnyc12.tumblr.com/ Terrence Aybar

Man, I can’t wait. Looking forward to the 22nd something fierce!

  • http://www.blueskywebworx.com/ Lance Thompson

Very cool! Can’t wait until Nov 22!

  • Jamie Hall

Lordy – so anyone can create and share their own channel via skydrive and have it appear in the same list as HBO. Combining this with upload studio… wow, the possibilities for great gaming channels are basically endless.

  • evilfangs .

Seems like a cool feature, but I’m forever alone so not a app I’ll ever use.

  • Nathnan

I also use Copy, it’s like SkyDrive, only you get 20GB+ free instead. https://copy.com?r=UNgCNu

  • Jan Václavík

Being able to view .pptx, .docx or .pdf would be a nice feature.

    • Jaymoon

      Or play .mp3 perhaps? Not happening… :(

      • ElektroDragon

They can’t wait to kill off MP3 support everywhere so they can force you to pay for their streaming subscription music services. Both Sony and MS.

      • Jan Václavík

Sure, I am just not a huge music fan myself. I am not even sure whether music fans use .mp3 these days.

  • Mitchell Hall

Yet another thing the ps4 cannot do. Pretty cool features especially for my movies.

    • Anonymous

The SkyDrive belongs to MS so obviously the PS4 can’t do that.

  • beardyman3218

Cool features, What about Sky Go :-) i heard now tv is day one but not sky go.

    • evilfangs .

I hope Sky player is day one.

    • evilfangs .

Just found out the answer to both our questions.

For me in the UK, these are the launch apps: 4oD – Amazon / Lovefilm – Blinkbox – Crackle – Demand 5 – Eurosport – Machinmia – MUZU TV – Netflix – Now TV – TED – Twitch and finally Wuaki.TV.

So no Sky player at launch for me, or Sky Go.

      • beardyman3218

Thats very cheeky from sky, sky player is free to current customers so they decided to make their paid subscription app first to gather more customers from people who are not on the service. Thanks evilfangs.

  • jonatan

is truth to the rumor that ban to get rid of brand xbox

    • Timothy Shilleto

its just someone that wants to be ceo of microsoft talking

    • Anonymous

      …In ENGLISH?

    • usrev

the odds of it happening are low.

as much as xbox one is hated I think it will turn profit pretty early on. the 360 had the RROD issue which surely stunted the profits the console generated. even when the xbox one sells less it will still make money. especially if MS does more i house game development and publishing which means they get bigger cuts when it sells.

Bing though, I think bing will be gone.

    • Nick Peck

eh ok? Xbox isn’t going anywhere so I wouldn’t worry about it. Too much money to be made, MS wouldn’t sell it off. Also, where do these stupid rumors come from?

  • Vince

Major, I received an email saying that my credit card used to pre-order the Xbox One has expired, but my credit card doesn’t expire until 2015. I called Microsoft and they said the email was sent by mistake. Please confirm this.

    • Jeremy Sutherland

You can’t seriously think Major Nelson is the one to talk to about this can you? Please tell me this is a joke. Haha

    • Nick Peck

I don’t think Major has the time to catch up with the help dept. for a question like that lol. If that’s what they said then that’s what the answer is, if you don’t like it, call them back and ask again to be sure.

    • Anonymous

      You sir are an idiot.

    • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

i feel bad for you, you ask a fair question because you feel unsecure, and i would too after receiving such a weird email. Call again at MS to make sure everything is alright. Ignore the downvote lol it’s ok that you want to avoid any problem with your delivery. I just hope i really get it on the 22, because it’s friday

    • http://adamusprime.tumblr.com/niccagehead NicCage5000

      Dear Major,

I have this weird growth between my sack and rectal area. Sometimes it burns, but only if I wear briefs. Can I txt u a pic of it and you can tell me what it is and how to remedy? I will sit right here in one spot on this site until I get a reply from you, Major Nelson.

      Thanks,
      Captain Healey

  • MaximMillion

Impressive. The whole voice command feature looks flawless this time around. Can’t want to show off to my sony pony buddies with it :)

  • Anonymous

    On a gaming console? No.

  • ElektroDragon

What they won’t talk about is how the seem to be killing XBLA, calling all smaller downloadable games “digital” and setting the new entry point for any downloadable game at $20. LocoCycle, Crimson Dragon, Powerstar Golf, all $20. Ridiculous.

    • evilfangs .

      Vote with your wallet then.

  • Liquidfx Xboxdude

blah blah blah i just want my ps4 and x1 already. i am tired of these old machines.

  • Jason

What types of video files can the XB1 play?
And, what is that being covered up behind the XB1?

    • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

that’s a nice question, and how easy it detect your network shared folder. That is something i can’t wait to see. I like to stream music and video to my x360 (even though i hate media center for being so 2000s)

  • Lucas Sanches Cestari

i want a xbox FAQ!!! Y U NO LAUNCH THE XBOX ONE FAQ???

    • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

post your question and maybe the community or major will answer them

      • Lucas Sanches Cestari

nah, i already searched for it, i’m sure there’s no official FAQ page for xbox one =/

        • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

we will know in 11 days

        • beardyman3218

Did you check the xbox newswire site?

  • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

i really like the way it is integrated, but like many other user, i use another cloud company for me need, because, well, i don’t own a microsoft phone. Major, since Google drive is available on android and also iOS, is MS would be willing to accept to see google develop an application for the xbox one ?

Let’s make it clear here that i’m not saying one service is better than the other, and i know this is not an android platform, etc. etc etc. I think everyone can use the service they like too, and it’s just nice to see more than 1 option on your console too.

  • http://ninsci.weebly.com/ Ilovegoogleglass

Hey @Major Nelson by any chance do you know how much times I can download a game or app that I payed for digitally?
For example, lets say I bought the digital version of Dead Rising 3 and downloaded and installed it then deleted how many times can I download it again?

    • Death Dealer

Unlimited times, just like on Xbox 360.

      • http://ninsci.weebly.com/ Ilovegoogleglass

        Hmm…Death Dealer thanks?
But I don’t appreciate the dislike you gave me….

        • Death Dealer

          Perhaps, because I didn’t.

  • http://ninsci.weebly.com/ Ilovegoogleglass

Can you save a full game in the cloud on Xbox One?

    • Samuel Herrera

Probably not, each XBL account only gets 7GB of Cloud storage

      • http://ninsci.weebly.com/ Ilovegoogleglass

Thanks, forgot about the 7GB of free storage…I was thinking about going full digital this generation….

        • evilfangs .

Nah you don’t want to do that, there’s no benefits by going digital.

          • http://ninsci.weebly.com/ Ilovegoogleglass

            Yeah….

          • Samuel Herrera

If you go digital, you can use the live switch feature with games.

          • evilfangs .

You’ve got to be super OCD to feel the need to switch between two games all the time.

          • Samuel Herrera

I’m guessing you like starring at multiplayer lobbies for 10 minutes straight?

          • http://ninsci.weebly.com/ Ilovegoogleglass

            Ha HA QHA!

          • evilfangs .

Well considering all online games will be able to use dedicated servers, the lobbies will fill up super fast anyways.

Far easier to bottle neck every online user into one or two dedicated server in a region then go p2p and find each user the best experience for them, – ping etc,

          • Niknok Seyer

is that the only option to do game / app switching? :(
I pre-ordered the games physically but I’d love those features. :(

          • John Place

Yes there are. Cutting manufacturingcosts of disks, less wear and tear on drive, no standing in line at game store, faster read times, takes up less space at home, and the list goes on.

          • evilfangs .

Who cares about manufacturing costs when that cost isn’t given to us customers? This isn’t steam, you’re still paying same price as us who buy physical. Sometimes even more, plus digital games don’t get discounted or reduced any where close to a used game.

All discs have to be installed onto your hard drive, so what wear and tear on disc drive? The game will be read from the drive.

Standing in line is still going to be faster then having a capped download speed from Microsoft’s servers. Good luck downloading 40GB+ games, It took me 1hour to download a 517mb file on a constant 70 Fibre line.

Read times – again disc is installed onto the hard drive, the read times will be the same.

Unless you live somewhere in Asia, I highly doubt you will be worrying about a small disc case for space at home lol.

          • beardyman3218

Manufacturing costs are reduced but the price stays the same actually the price of digital is more, i enjoy going to my games store but that just me, for ME there is no benefit for digital, for others its convenience, is it weird that i also like the smell of a new game? Anyone remember ridge racer was purposely made to smell like burnt rubber.

          • evilfangs .

I always smell my new games. I’m weird.

          • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

no benefit, are you serious ? benefit on that having a physical disc that can break/scratch is a + and benefit on not having to rely on a cd-reader that will certainly die is 2 huge reason for me to go all digital.

i can also add, reduce noise/heat for not having any disc spinning.

My current xbox 360 suffer badly from a dying disc reader and i’m one of those freak that don’t have any scratch on cd and that take care of his stuff badly.

the 7go limit is not for the game, it has been discuss before by major

          • evilfangs .

All game discs need a mandatory install. After that the game gets read from the hard drive exactly like it would if you installed a game on the 360.
So there wouldn’t be any noise or heat. The disc would spin for 30seconds when you boot the game up, and that’s not going to scratch your disc.

          • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

on x360 even if you install the disc, it need the disc to run the game, i guess x1 is going to be the same. So yah it does read the cd from time to time on x360 at least. So yes noise, yes, some heat, but i agree, not that much, wasn’t a big deal anyway. I often get a “unable to read disc” in the middle of my games which crash me back to the dashboard. So there is no way i don’t go all digital this time. That error message is appearing because my disc reader is dying and produce a laser not strong enough.

it depends on what type of people you are. Trusting a cd reader is something i can’t afford, they all die one day or the other. Cloud don’t. HDD die also, but less often.

who said i was linking “scratch” and “disc spinning” ??? i have a kid and a dog and hands full of thumb, that’s enough to make a disc fall on the floor. Knowing murphy’s law apply very well to me, i have a lot of chance it fall and scratch lol. Happen once. My bad, my problem. I just can’t trust any disc reader as a reliable hardware over time.

And i don’t resell any of my game. so, that’s me.

          • evilfangs .

I’m not having a ago man, we are just discussing like healthy human beings the benefits between physical and digital lol.

          • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

yah, that’s how i felt lol, sorry if you thought i was getting angry lol. I just had bad experience with my drive on the 360 and i don’t want to buy a new 360 so to me, it’s a nice addition to be able to go all digital. everyone can find sufficient reason to stick either with physical or digital or a mix of both. 40go games are a bit of a down for me too, but on regular month, my bandwidth will be ok.

          • evilfangs .

Nah I didn’t think you was getting angry, I just wanted to make sure you knew I wasn’t attacking you :)

      • Niknok Seyer

@ilovegoogleglass:disqus I’m thinking and hoping that if you bought the game digitally, it is re-downloadable to your account using the ‘cloud’.

  • http://ninsci.weebly.com/ Ilovegoogleglass

Uploading everything on my computer to skydrive now!

  • Landsharkk

Not having cable tv I had thought the Xbox One Guide would be useless for my family. After watching the video above it turns out it might end up being the most used app/feature on my Xbox One!

Having Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and other video channels right there in one place is HUGELY useful. While the Xbox One already has multitasking and instant switching, it seems the Xbox One Guide takes a step further allowing you to do all of that in a single app.

I like it. Can’t wait for the 22nd!

  • AC130

The question is how often will the sales be and how good will they be?

  • EldritchWarlord

    Whatever one you want.

  • beardyman3218

Does anybody know what sound the xbox one will output for games? Will it finally support 5.1 pcm or dts, in-game.

    • evilfangs .

The only thing I could find was on Xbox One Wiki and it said 7.1 Surround Sound.

      • beardyman3218

They have been very quite about it, major nelson could you find an answer for this?

  • robmc

Both IGN and Polygon updated their reviews of the game to note Ghosts on Xbox One consistently held at 60 frames per second, where the PS4 suffered noticeable framerate drops in multiplayer, as had been earlier mentioned by these publications and others.
How’s that 1080P always working out for ya lol.

  • http://ninsci.weebly.com/ Ilovegoogleglass

Google fiber needs to come to my town…

  • robmc

Nothing, you where trolling on the subject of full HD, Quote “its such a shame you don’t have any games in full hd for your bone”. So I guess you had to change the subject since you obviously can’t answer the question as to why the vaunted PS has major issues running at 1080 P .
And just so you know, there are games on the X Box One that are running in 1080 P, you just chose to forget them in your efforts of trolling.
