First set of developers sign on to ID@Xbox

Great progress is being made on the ID@Xbox program. Chris Charla, the director of the program, has posted an update on the progress as well as unveiled a few of the studios that are part of the program.

    Crytek is in there, surprising…

    Guess Cevat got poor.

    • TonyLN

With a little bit of luck Crytek is making an interface so their engine is easily accessible for ID@Xbox developers.

      • roozbeh, again

I wonder how Minecraft will be with the CryEngine…

Considering that said, why isn’t Mojang on the list?

        • mcmax3000

I would expect that Microsoft will be publishing the XB1 version of Minecraft, rather than them self publishing.

          • roozbeh, again

            True

          • Nick Peck

Any word on when that is coming out for the XBO? I haven’t seen anything about the game in awhile.

          • mcmax3000

I don’t think so. I seem to remember someone telling me that they had said they were working on finishing a PS3 version before moving focus onto the PS4 & XB1 versions, but I don’t know that for fact.

          • Nick Peck

Ah ok. I remember reading it was coming in Dec, then possibly Jan/Feb, but again that was awhile ago. Ok thanks for the reply.

          • Fingleberries

Last I read, they were working on a way to export your 360 game saves to the One.

They’ll probably finish the PS3 version first (80 million potential customers) then do next gen (3-6 million potential customers at the moment).

    • EldritchWarlord

Crytek wants to do self-publishing on Xbox One. ID@Xbox will facilitate that.

I didn’t wanna read the link but can someone give me a quick comment of how/why this is good/bad for us the gamers

    • Nick Peck

2+2=4. read and you will have an answer. Plus, just reading the title should tell you that it’s a “good” thing that a ton of top indies / small devs will have games on the XBO.

Was just asking no need to get your pants in a bunch as you do with everyone. an reason I ask is because imo I saw no different because by my understanding that’s how it currently is for xbox live

        • Nick Peck

I get my pants in a bunch because there are to many lazy people or to man fanboys around here (and everywhere else). Honestly, why take the time to type out a question when you could have just read it?

They are listing a bunch of new dev’s for the program (since it’s a new program for the XBO).
“an update on the progress as well as unveiled a few of the studios that are part of the program”, pretty much says what it’s about, that’s all :)

The difference between Xbox Indie Games on the Xbox 360 and ID@Xbox on the Xbox One is that the developers can use all of Xbox One’s capabilities including Kinect 2 when making ID@Xbox games whereas Xbox Indie Games on the Xbox 360 had limitations such as they couldn’t use Kinect. Also Microsoft are going to eventually allow the Xbox One to be used as a devkit so anybody can make games for it using the Xbox One itself if they have the skills.

I don’t know why Microsoft didn’t allow them to use Kinect, that was a big mistake in my opinion as there are loads of indie Kinect games that are currently just PC only or just PC demos as they couldn’t get them on the Xbox 360. Check out SkiRanger for example, that looks pretty cool!

            Thank you

          • Corellianrogue

            You’re welcome. :)

          • HGamer

In addition, MS said X1 game developers can use cloud servers for free, including using as dedicated servers for online match.

Not sure if this offer cover indie developers as well. But MS has said more than once that X1 games are no longer differentiated into retail, XBLA and indie. All games are games.

      • Fingleberries

Not to forget the Large / Medium devs like Crytek and Double Fine :)

    • mcmax3000

More developers are making games for Xbox One. I feel like the headline should be pretty self explanatory as to how it benefits gamers.

  • Caught_an_FPS

On a side note, please bring back “‘friend’ is online” notifications and please differentiate between “game” and “party” invite. PLEASE

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

yeah. that should not even be absent at the start

    • ElektroDragon

No. They did not change the notification sound. And now with 1000 friend limit, the last thing I want is to be hearing the Achievement Unlocked sound 10 times per minute! Getting rid of friend online notification was a GODSEND.

      • https://live.xbox.com/MyXbox/Profile?gamertag=DarkGin87 Lee Rayson (DarkGin87)

I would like to see a friend online notification BUT perhaps like a small notification with no sound

      • mcmax3000

That’s a simple solution: Put in an option to turn it off, and also put in an option to only notify you when friends that you have marked as favourite come online, so that you could still have the feature for people you really care about, without being bombarded.

      • Nick Peck

Yah I don’t miss it either. If you need to know just “tab” out and look at your gamertag, pretty easy. However I love options and I think at some point they will allow you to add it back if you want.

There is a lot being worked on so I’m sure it will happen soon. I really want the external drive option, fixed parties and for my pins to stop disappearing… as well as my new Kinect to finally show up lol. Over two days now and it still says “order in progress”..

      • Fingleberries

Best would be if you could set it for notifications for:
        1) Favourites only
        2) Friends and Favourites
        3) Friends, Favourites and Following
        4) None

        • EldritchWarlord

Or just have a checklist of Favorites, Friends, and Following allowing one to select an subset of them for online notifications.

    • Toxxity

They definitely need to bring back the friend notification. If it bothers some people then it simply needs to be adjustable from the notifications options. Whether you want full notification of ALL friends or maybe you prefer to be notified when your “Favorites” come online. Or none at all, it should be up to the user. I’ve had this occur several times now that someone has joined my party asking me when I got online and had no idea I had been on for over an hour, just shortly after they had gotten on and started playing a game. That’s an extra hour I could have been enjoying playing a game with them, and a simple notification is all they needed.

    • evilfangs .

With Ryse: Son of Rome going crazy on the “clip uploaded” every 2 minutes while playing online, I could only imagine it with 100+ friends signing in every second.

      • Ivanx360xpira

Did you notice that games clips are recorded randomly during the campaign of Ryse?Don´t know if y can disable it, but it´s kinda annoying, once every time I think I unlocked some achievement I see the game recording a clip without my command. Anyways I don´t understand why “Achievements” app is not snappable…makes no sense for me…

I was also wondering why some voice commands work great like “go home” or “snap” but others are very unstable like “unsnap” or “xbox on” Are y experiencing something like that?

I think the whole thing needs polishment, and I hope MS does something in this regard asap…

        • evilfangs .

Yea it records and uploads clips when you do a boss battle or or something like hold down a position. It’s not actually recording when you do cool stuff it’s a set record and upload feature that the developers have setup.

I find my Kinect works fine. Sometimes I don’t even have to speak that clearly for it to understand me, the only trouble it has for me is “Xbox play disc”, it tends to play Xbox music lol.

By the way it’s “Xbox unsnap”, and you need to have your X1 on “instant on” mode to say “Xbox on”, I don’t so no idea how good or bad this command is.

Is Below going to be an ID@XBox?

    • Arik Cotton

Below is actually published by MS. That deal was done before ID@Xbox was even announced. They are going to be releasing another game through the ID program.

  • Liquidfx Xboxdude

did they sign up to make my xbox actually worth $500. It is not good right now. not good at all as far as innovation is concerned. it acts like my old kinect and 360 but with less features. smh where is the seamlessness?

  • Maxcer Maxcer

Same old MS I see. people shouldn’t be happy about this horrible parity clause that hurts other gamers on other platforms.

Speaking to Witch Beam’s Sanatana Mishra, who developed Assault Android Cactus,
we were told that there were three reasons the studio wasn’t on
the list of announced ID@Xbox devs. Firstly, they are initially told
there would be no self publishing on the Xbox One. Secondly, when they
were initially approached by Microsoft and asked to contact them, there
was no response. Thirdly, it was made clear that if Witch Beam wanted to
be on Xbox One, they had to delay the PS4, PS Vita and Wii U versions
of Assault Android Cactus due to this parity clause.

“We started work on our Wii U, PS4, and PS Vita versions a while back
and they will most definitely be ready before any hypothetical Xbox One
version could be, as a team of 3 we can’t really build in many
platforms simultaneously. My understanding of the ID@Xbox launch parity
clause is that you need to launch at the same time or first on Xbox One,
which in our case would mean delaying the other platforms as they would
    definitely be ready earlier.

So, say you want to bring your game to Xbox One at some point after hearing
about ID@Xbox, but already have it in development for other platforms
and aren’t willing to postpone their release for the same (as is the
case with Assault Android Cactus). Mishra confirmed that, “Based on the
clause we would be breaking the rules of the ID@Xbox program so we have
no plans to bring Assault Android Cactus to the Xbox One.”

  • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

can’t wait to see a kinect integration on Lightwave. They are supporting officially kinect 1 as a way to control bone animation, i just can’t imagine how better it can be with kinect 2. I hope newtek will use that nice tech.

  • Bennijin

Developers who aren’t cool with release parity get locked out of the programme GG Microsoft. What does it matter if a game’s already been on another platform? Videogaming is about VIDEOGAMES and you should want as many as possible on your platform.

This is the problem the 360 had building for the past three years or so, more developers both retail and digital making games that end up everywhere else.
