Use your Xbox One for a virtual Holiday Fireplace and never miss a game invite

Have you always wanted to have a wood burning fire place in your gaming room?

Here I’ll show you how to use your Xbox One for a virtual fireplace. It’s simple:

    • Open up Internet Explorer on your Xbox One (Say: Xbox, Go to Internet Explorer)
    • Open up the address bar.
(Click this menu button or Say “Show Address Bar” while voice commands are active)
    • Navigate to my blog via this short URL:
    • Scroll to this post
    • Click this link for the video on YouTube
(You may see a brief error about needing Flash, but then IE will pull in the HTML 5 version of the video)
    • Click the full screen icon in the lower right of the video.
    • Sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of a real wood burning fireplace for the Holiday.

And you’ll never miss a game invite. Have a great Christmas everyone!

Tip: Use SmartGlass to open up IE, and type in the URL.

    Nice, thank you

  • Danny

Why don’t you just give us flash player

    • Areen Khachadouri

flash is needed but html 5 embeded video codecs are really nice.

    • Lee Rayson (DarkGin87)

Flash is outdated and takes up to much resources than needed

Besides the never ending updates. Just about daily! I am happy with HTML 5 support.

    Nice idea! Thanks !

Too bad the xbox one doesn’t even give a hint that its going warming up/over heating. i used my ps3/xbox one consoles as a space heater. i guess tha’ts a good thing

    • David Sayles

I leave my xbox one on almost all day, every day since I bought it. It’s never once over heated…

      • evilfangs .

Same. The top of my Kinect actually gets hotter then my whole console.

    • Play Shadowrun

      Because it doesn’t overheat.

Too bad the Xbox One Smartglass doesn’t work on my tablet.

wow…how about using it in a fireplace? Step 1: get wood. Step 2: put Xbox One in fireplace. Step 3: Splash Kerosene amidst both. Step 4: Light & enjoy the warmth! enjoy your Holidays everyone!

    • Lucas Sanches Cestari

well why put an xbox one in the fireplace? use 500 dollars instead, the fire lasts longer lololol

If your cable/satelite provider has a fireplace channel they could connect up their HD cablebox/satelite Set Top Box and watch the fireplace channel while waiting for games.

  • Scott Dunn

If you have Netflix, they already have a fireplace show ready to go with holiday music even. :)

  • Virualboy

500 dollar virtual fireplace. wow. now all you need to do is order up the pizza hut app. The gaming machine that keeps on giving except the game part

    • Does Not Equal

Because everything your electronics can do must be 100% useful at all times.

      • Virualboy

So it can wipe your butt too ? if so poop on it and put it on twitch

      • Nate Welles

You try so hard to be funny. I bet you’re the guy that kills jokes and causes awkward silences.

        • Does Not Equal

Had I been trying to be funny, I would have succeeded.

    • Play Shadowrun

Except it’s giving in that department as well.

    • evilfangs .

It has plenty of games. I’ve already played and completed 8 and the system has been out for about a month.

    • Nick Peck

Another clueless troll :( Run out of things to do on the ps4 already? Poor fella.

      • Brian Ghattas

Nick Peck, once again showcasing his hypocrisy and lemming attitude.

  • Sanpei

Thanks…This is what i need on gaming console !

  • evilfangs .

Why doesn’t the Game DVR record UI stuff? I need to get video proof that my last two achievements on Max:The curse of brotherhood have glitched, but I can only get proof from in game that I’ve collected every collectible and the achievements glitched for me.

I wanted to make it as easy as possible for PressPlay to help me with my problem. ( even though they think it might be Xbox cloud problem ).

Thank you, Larry! All the Russian loyal Xbox fans say ‘thank you’. Well, you know, we don’t get an Xbox One, sure, but that is some useful info. You know, in case you decide to release it in Russia. We’ll be like ‘Hey, 7 years of supporting Xbox 360 and spending tons of money on it – well, mate, now we get to watch a virtual fireplace!’ Sorry, Microsoft, this Christmas Russia will be going to Sony for all it’s virtual fireplace needs. Simply because you didn’t bother to release your console here.

    Is it in 720P?

Either way this is officially the best use for Xbone.

  • Nate Welles

Next gen “wars” are over. This is the pinnacle of Xbox One.

  • Luke MaPi

What does it mean “and you’ll never miss a game invite” ?

    • Snook

Because you can get game invites while viewing the video.

I’d rather buy one of those animated Fireplaces at BigLots to set the mood right.. That’s just me though

  • Sanpei

Sales are 4.8 to 1 in spain…Wow man, better fireplace videos are needed…

    • Luke MaPi

In Italy it is maybe worse. No Ps4 available, so many xboxone still on the shelves (some from day one, with fifa 14).

I’m an xbox fans, and I have the One, but MS has wrong the whole commercial policy. From the day they announced the One !!!

      I’m heartbroken.

It ‘s already time for a relaunching program.

This witticism of the fireplace, certainly does not help

      • Sanpei

They should fix the GUI first..It’s like beta and it’s much worse than Xbox360s…It’s no user firendly, not practical…Very bad…

When i use my 360, i am asking why a company wants to break this well working thing…MS did many things wrong…Sad for them..I love my Xbox360 so much, but i hate XO and Kinect

        • Luke MaPi

I agree with every single word, the GUI of the One is really bad, nothing is easly and friendly. It also has an unpleasant look.

Me too love my 360, I find it perfect.

The XO, at the moment, remains to gather dust.

  • Lenonn

The Xbox One really needs a photo viewing app (outside of Skydrive). On Christmas, my father wanted to show some phoros from a recent trip, but without a photo viewing app, using a memory stick in one the USB ports is useless and there is no network photo viewing available. These used to be standard with the 360.

Sorry, but I am not moving all photos to Skydrive just to be able to view them on the Xbox One.

  • Stuart Triibal Cullinane

skydrive is useless for viewing my movie files takes far to long to upload them, dear microsoft give us something easy and simple like the xbox360s insert a usb with movie files and away you go, again SKYDRIVE SUX BALLS
