“We the Geeks” Takes a Look at the Future of Computing

The White House (yes, THAT White House) has a “We Are The Geeks” event today. In case you don’t know, “We Are The Geeks” is a series of Google+ Hangouts to discuss science, technology and innovation in the United States. I just found out that my good friend Alex Kipman will be joining an amazing tech cast for what I am sure will be a lively discussion:

Tom Kalil and Cristin Dorgelo from the White House Office of Science and Technology will join Mark Papermaster, Chief Technology Officer at Advanced Micro Devices, Alex Hawkinson, CEO of SmartThings, Alex Kipman of Microsoft Kinect, and Palmer Luckey, founder of Oculus Rift to discuss:

  • What new computing advancements might we see in the next few years? What about 10-15 years from now?
  • What are the technological breakthroughs that need to happen to get there?
  • And finally, what might be the impact of the ever growing intelligent connection of people, processes, data and things?

The event takes place today at 2p ET - via The White House blog

Release another dashboard update for the xbox one please fix all the bugs please …

    • Senses Failed

Or at least give us an ETA

    • Nox

      you mean like the XO?

  • evilfangs .

    Yay! More American stuff.

    • ImTheMetalLord

This has nothing to do with Microsoft nor Xbox but was simply providing some information that is interesting. And even if it was sanctioned by Microsoft Xbox….they are an American company after all. SMDH

  • The Truth Must Be Said

Phineas and Ferb: Quest for Cool Stuff $39.99 => $19.99 – 50% off

    • ImTheMetalLord

Thanks you and please keep posting when you find these….for some reason Larry stopped posting the weekly sales and stuff ever since the end of the year promo’s.

      • ElektroDragon

Sales? Looks he’s not even posting new stuff, if any. I thought the guy from Sony who joined was supposed to make this as good as the PS Blog. You know, the one where every new item, every sale, is spelled out in a nice long, clear list every week like clockwork?

        • NerdRage

this guy is even more lazy than larry, which is a big accomplishment imo

      • xPutNameHerex

        xbldb (dot) com
Always the best place to look, under the “price decreases” tab. Sales tend to go up between 7:30-8:00PM EDT (so just post 0:00 GMT) the day before they officially start (so always check on Monday nights to see the next week’s offerings).

  • NerdRage

the biatche in charge of the x-bone division admitted to having problems with watching tv without voice control lol x-bone

  • CDMAss

This company is too far away from the future.

  • ElektroDragon

So are there any updates this week to the Xbox One or 360 Marketplaces or what?

    • NerdRage

as if anybody would give a damn anymore, detach yourself emotionally and financially from ms and enjoy the show, its quiet hilarious what ms is doing

      • roozbeh, again

With a 44% return, I don’t think it is smart to financially detach yourself from MS.

You can still make a good amount of money out of them.

        • NerdRage

no way you had roi of 44% as a shareholder last year, no way in hell.

          • WARLORD

MS is more then just xbox… Just about all PC’s run ms windows and most businesses use ms office… Xbox is just a foot not compared to the rest Microsoft……

          • NerdRage

win 8 was a flop, btw you could just check the stocks curve and see that i am right

          • roozbeh, again

$36.04 at this time. Made the previous comment based on the stock price of 38.94 they had last year.

All in all 33% ROI from last year.

          • NerdRage

a roi of 44% would mean that 100 dollar become 144

          • WARLORD

A flop or not MS still has monopoly on the market with the Windows OS… Just about all pc’s run windows…Unless you build your own PC.

      • Guest

        You’re a real clueless douche.

    • IvanCD(MaidenLOKO)

I also would like to know it! but it seems an update is near and it´s probably related to fix social stuff. Hope achievements enhancement will be included in these updates in the near feature.

      http://wwwpolygoncom/2014/1/9/5291062/xbox-ones-next-major-update-will-focus-on-social-features

  • evilfangs .

For anyone who didn’t know, Lego: Marvel super heroes now has a demo on X1.

  • kvfive

XB1, the current state of today’s technology !! Surely this ‘Latest Gen’ (with all it’s power) is more than capable of emulating a 360 no ? You’d destroy the competition with a fix like this in a future o/s update ! – think about it MS !!

    • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

one of the problem is 64 bit vs 32 bit, streaming the game from MS cloud is a more approachable idea.
We have hard time emulating old computer and console gaming on much stronger computer because they just don’t work the same. it’s not a direct mathematical correlation.

      • kvfive

Yeah good point :) Sony announced some streaming of ps3 games on the ps4 only today, I wish !

        • WARLORD

Its called PlayStation Now… and it will work on more then just the ps4..”Set to roll out this summer on PS3 and PS4 — followed by PS Vita and an
array of internet connected devices such as 2014 BRAVIA TVs — PS Now
will enable users to stream a library of PS3 titles in real time over
          the internet.”

    • evilfangs .

Microsoft need to do something with playing 360 / original xbox one games as Playstation now is able to stream PS2 and PS3 games on PS4 / Vita.

      • kvfive

Totally agree, it’s just MS take sooo long to implement changes, and that’s even if they’d consider copying Sony :-(

        • IvanCD(MaidenLOKO)

yeah…Its funny how things are. MS praised the power of cloud, but sony is implementing a game streaming service before MS, after the hate bandwagon against Xbox One last year MS delayed the family sharing feature, which is already working valve´s steam…Even twitch (not that I really care about that) was working at E3 on Xbox One presentation…It seems that every nice feature that would turned Xbox One unique, after the reversal are troubled on X1, but are beeing implemented subtly by other companies…and MS seems to be more worried with a COD championship…

  • roozbeh, again

Hopefully they will talk about the potential of Kinect outside of gaming where it will probably have more success.

    • NerdRage

Who could use this spy and control device? its not accurate enough or medical purposes and surveillance equipment won’t be bought from an nsa outlet

      • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

dear troll, kinect 1.0 is already in use in the medical field. thank you for being totally out

        • NerdRage

hopefully they give you a brain surgery with kinect, it can’t get worse anyways

          • IvanCD(MaidenLOKO)

why so much hate man? Everyday is the same, you just bash everything over here. We all understood you hate MS.

Best thing you could do it is not to support MS, don´t use windows, xbox etc…Do you really believe to come here to bash will change something?Makes me think you´re just one more troll!

          • NerdRage

of course i am trolling, but there is always a truth to what i write. kinect one i not being used in medical facilities, we both know that.

i dont support ms anymore, and if my trolling is really that annoying to you, you might wanna find a moderated x-xbone forum

          • IvanCD(MaidenLOKO)

No son, it doesn´t annoy me at all!I was just trying to understand your nerd rage against MS. But hey, it doesn´t worth the energy cost anyways!

          • NerdRage

its doesnt cost me much energy to troll here… what i would like to understand is how can a reasonable person stay with ms, all they have is a better controller and thats it

          • IvanCD(MaidenLOKO)

but you don´t need to, what you have to do with other people choice?you hate MS, you think they´re greed, etc…and you are smart enough to see it, good…just deal with it!

but son, I tell you that every single company are greed, they need to make money and the only thing they really care is how full or empty are your wallet!Sony, valve…whatever other company is no different than MS…

          • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

im wondering what is harder to understand,
1- people enjoying a product and being on a board that discuss the product and the surrounding universe
            or
2- someone pretending to hate a product but that still pass a lot of time on a board that talk only about a product that is supposed to s**k while also saying a lot of incorrect information….

let me think about it another full 2 seconds

          • evilfangs .
      • evilfangs .

Yet People have been using the eye toy and first Kinect for science purposes because they’re so cheap compared to other devices which do the same thing.

      • roozbeh, again

        Obvious troll is obvious.

    • Disturbed_Court_Jester

I thought I read that the Kinect 2.0 had some sort of lock on it, so it couldn’t be used for other stuff, I could be wrong though.

      • roozbeh, again

Yes, the Xbox one version is locked.

But their is an open Windows version coming out this year.

        • Disturbed_Court_Jester

          Ah, didn’t know that.

  • kvfive

Larry, when we getting our much needed XB1 update ? :-p
