Xbox One System Update coming Feb 11

A battery indicator for your controller!

LOOK – A battery indicator for your controller

Marc Whitten has just posted details on Xbox Wire of the next Xbox One System Update that is coming next week.

Here are the highlights from the post:

On February 11, the first update will be delivered to customers who sign into their Xbox One.  It features many new improvements – including lots of behind-the-scenes updates for developers building apps and games for Xbox One, several new features we believe Xbox fans will love, stability and product updates to improve the customer experience, and continuous improvements to the quality of Kinect voice so commands become more fluid and responsive over time.  While we won’t be going into all of the details of the product updates today, we will be sharing more information soon.

Some of the features you can expect to see on February 11 include:

The ability to see and manage your storage space. With this update, you will find it easy to find how much space your content takes up and better manage your content. You can also control your install lineup and more easily manage your download queue. We’ve separated My Games and My Apps into separate lists, so you can easily create separate queues for both. Now you can pick the order in which you want your content to load and we’ve added a boot progress indicator so you can better track updates while they load.

The battery power indicator is back! You can see it right on the home screen, so you can easily track how much battery life is left on your controller.

And, you will be able to use your USB keyboard with your Xbox One.

These are just a few of the many updates we will be shipping on February 11. We’ll share more details on these and other upcoming features in the coming weeks. We have several surprises in store that we think you’ll love.

March 4 system updates – countdown to “Titanfall”

On March 4, in advance of what is expected to be the biggest game launch of the year, we will be delivering another system update to prepare your Xbox One for “Titanfall.”  This update will contain  many new features and improvements, most significantly to our party and multiplayer systems.

Oh, so everything the 360 already has? Cool. Now all you have to do is:
    1. Fix the broken party chat system.
    2. Bring back lists (nobody likes working through tiles, the Xbox One isn’t a tablet)
    3. Bring back the Xbox Guide.

    • Mike

U obviously cant read march 4 fixes party chat

    • Nick Peck

Well seems you missed the info for #1 :D

    • Virus

      Bring back the blade dashboard

  • Mike

Lol sony fanboys are thhe worst there even infesting Major Nelson blog wow.

    • Nick Peck

I hate fantards period, no matter what side of the fence they are on. But sony fantards? They are the worst, so bad that over the past 6-7 years there have been several stories written on them. They used to be known as the “Sony Defense Force” back in the day lol.

    • Adinnieken

What’s even more special is when your comment is down voted immediately after you post it.

      • Shakeslikecrazy

        They’re desperate.

    • Shakeslikecrazy

They’re just too poor to buy Xbox One and are stuck with a brand that’s near death and a credit rating junkified every time. Investors are fleeing that sinking ship too as the share price keeps dropping too. The B*tth*rt is strong in that PoS community.

  • Killingfetish

    Dolby digital via optical pls

    • Danny Hogan

      i agree !

  • Andrew VanSpronsen

Please tell me there is real DLNA support…You know, like the Xbox360 had. Play To is useless and a huge step backwards for a device wanting to be central to your home entertainment.

  • Gazza!!!

Strider coming to XBLA and Xbox One in 2 weeks. Now can we all agree this is good news?

    • Riddick Snipes

Hell yeah. This is refreshing. 2 weeks sweet. Does anyone know if halo spartan assault is 720p or 1080p on the Xbox 360. I know its 1080p on the one, but I can’t find any info on the 360 version. And b4 anyone says its on the game page in the dash, these have been wrong before.

      • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Lol come on man.. does the game spartan assault really change in any way shape or form going from 720 to 1080 lol I mean come on. Who cares ? I can see it would matter to people on some games but this one ? Haha

        • Riddick Snipes

Who cares? The single most stupid comment I’ve ever read. How do u figure it matters to some games and not others. The shape or form difference is 1 million pixels. Have you ever played a game in 1080p? Basically ur saying there’s no difference between FIFA 14 on the 360 compared to the Xbox one. That is absurd. WHATEVER THE GAME IS IF ITS IN 720P THEN IT WILL LOOK BETTER IN 1080P! Once again really dumb comment Mitch boy

          • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

I’m not basically saying that no, because fifa is a different game going from 360 to xbox one, the Ai is smarter, the engine is different there’s lots of changes. My point, if you weren’t such an ignorant fool was that the game spartan assault is a Damn mobile game ported over.. it’s not a graphically intense game. So no it really doesn’t matter. I swear you people get stupider by the day.

          • Allan

Spartan Assault is a phone/tablet game, I wouldn’t waste your money. When did everyone become so fixated on resolution? Did the whole world buy 80 inch TV’s in the last 6 months?

  • jopamine

keyboard connected to a console means, fond memories phantasy star online! Is that what this means?!?! probably not….

    • Gazza!!!

You can already connect a USB keyboard to the one for typing. Not sure what the update is for.

      • jopamine

        wierd… i mean, weird…
        i don’t have an X1, so I don’t really know…

      • Adinnieken

Most likely support for a wider array of keyboards. My understanding is the support was limited.

Thus, a keyboard manufacturer that offers a specialized keyboard would be able to include a driver for the keyboard so it works with the console.

Or the next version of Steel Battalion comes out with a custom controller.

  • b1lldance

PLEASE add an option to turn off controller vibration in this update!

    • Mike

Ask game developers for that option should be on them anyways

      • b1lldance

Game developers should also add this option in their games as well. But the actual console itself should have a vibration setting.

        • Joachim David

Easy! Open up the controller and rip out the vibrating motors :p

    • Looty

I agree. it makes shooting less accurate and it kills battery life.

    • Shakeslikecrazy

      Seconded!

  • Mitchell Hall

Just had a comment awaiting moderation with absolutely no swear words or insults.. anyone ever have that happen on here?

    • Nick Peck

All of the time. It’s because of the idiots that constantly derail threads and swear like 8 year olds. The usual, many morons ruin it for everyone else type of deal :(

      • Mitchell Hall

Ah I see I see. Just never happened to me before unless I used a swear word by accident. I try to make it a point to not curse and keep conversations civil even with the mouth breathers lol

        • Nick Peck

          lol, yah I hear ya.

          • Mitchell Hall

You seem right on though dude. Hit me up on live if you’re interested.. for fps I usually play cod more so than battlefield though. But I play a little of everything and have pretty much every xbox one launch game lol. My gamer tag is mitcHELLspawn

          • Nick Peck

Absolutley! I’ll send the invite via the website, thanks! Yah I have pretty much all of the launch games myself. I need to finish up DR3, kinda stopped mid way through to finish up AC4 lol. In AC4 I’m at 93% done so I still have some left to do.

I play CoD and BF4 as well. I’ll hit ya up.

          • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Haha that’s wild I did the same exact thing ! I abandoned dr3 about half way in.. I went full on completionist playing ac4 haha. The only thing I have left to do in the entire game is collect the unmapped animus fragments.. The ones outside of towns etc. It’s so tedious ! I put a lot of hours into that game! Hey actually I have a blog and I recently wrote a review of ac4 on there.. before that I wrote an article about what gaming has meant to me through out my life.. going back to the NES days haha.. it’s crazy but gaming actually got me through a super rough time in my life.. I don’t know if you’d be interested in reading er or not but the site is mylifewithgaming . WordPress com if you have the time, check er out.. if not its all good!

          • Nick Peck

Yah, I have everything except the whale outfit (the community white whale skins….) and a few weapons, but I have all chests, fragments, view points…. I’m almost done :D

Yah I have been playing games since I was young, colecovision, ataris 2800 / 5200, more but I forget the names… and yes, the fantastic NES. I’ll never forget the first time I saw Zelda at my friends house. I was so amazed that I ran home and told my parents who then saved up to get us the system :D So many good times over the years!

          • Allan

I was a Sega kid. Give me Phantasy Star!!!

          • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Haha yeah I loved my Sega as well. I’m so glad I still have all the old systems and games from my childhood.

          • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Haha that’s awesome! Yeah I’m 26 so my first console was the NES. I didn’t get the chance to go back any further. I’m guessing you’ll really enjoy that article then man! It’s definitely a great little trip down memory lane. I touch on mike Tysons punch out, Mario, then going forward to games on the original playstation like ff7 and metal gear solid all the way through to the present day. If you scroll down on the main page past the ac4 review you will see it.. titled games, my life and more !

          • Mitchell Hall

Tbh though I’ll probably be on my 360 more so this month with the launch of lightning returns and castlvania.(I obsessively buy pretty much every game at launch lol) I really wish there wasn’t a latency problem when hooking the 360 into the xbox one. It’s pretty cool having both systems integrated like that.

          • Nick Peck

Yah I hear ya. I need to play season 2 Ep 1 of TWD, and with A Wolf among us ep. 2 hitting next week, I’ll be playing that as well.
Now that you mention it, I will check out the Castelvania game, it looks pretty good but I never played the first one. Oh I know, I almost always buy the games I like right off the bat as well.

          • Mitchell Hall

Hell yeah me too. I finished the first season as well as the bonus episode before season 2. I’ve gotta get on season 2. I absolutely loved season 1. It was such a refreshing new type of gaming experience. My girlfriend isn’t a gamer at all but she really enjoyed sitting and watching and helping me make decisions.how is wolf among us? I haven’t tried that one yet. I didn’t play the first castlevania either but it looks pretty sweet. I’ve been wanting a really cool vampire game forever. I think it’s a genre that should get some more exposure, there’s some pretty sweet powers they could come up with for a vampire game. I always pictured something like prototype only with vampires hahah.

          • Nick Peck

Yah I enjoyed Seasons 1 as well. As for The Wolf Among Us… I got the first episode while it was free and all I have to say it, it’s fantastic!! I never planned on getting it for some reason, but you can’t pass up free lol. I’m glad I did, big fan of the story. It’s a lot more “adult” oriented with the murder story and gore, but it’s a cool twist on “the big bad wolf, little red, snow white” and the like. Very cool story.

Yah I’ll read up on the new castlevania game for sure. I love me some good vamp games too as I was a huge fan of the old Dreamcast Legacy of Kain games back in the day.

If you include a link, your comment will automatically be moderated.

      • Nick Peck

Oh ya good call. That is another reason.

      • Mitchell Hall

Thanks for the info, but that’s not it either:/ I didn’t add a link.

        • Adinnieken

          Comment history? I don’t know.

The only comments I’ve ever gotten moderated were those that included links. There was also another circumstance, possibly a reply to Major, but I can’t recall it for certain.

Generally speaking it just awaits Major’s review then if everything is copasetic it gets posted.

      • Senses Failed

        And then promptly deleted :)

    • Shakeslikecrazy

Certain symbols are auto moderated too, like some currency ones. Could be that. Don’t worry though, if the post truly is harmless, Major will let it through.

    • Riddick Snipes

Yes I’ve had that. Just keep trying dude.

  • jopamine

What if i’m doing the dishes and wanna watch something. I don’t want to have to go to the controller to turn it off because it’s wasting battery.

    • Nigel Hannah

Theres a sexist joke just ripe for typing but I’ll stay well away.

But the controller turns off after a couple of minutes. Or how about making it an option? That’s as simple as the battery indicator that should have been there from the start. It still defies the point of Kinect if you have to do something physical AND verbal to play on the XBO when just doing the physical part works.

      • jopamine

Nothing wrong with wanting an empty sink every night.

Or… they could just do something like… “Xbox, Controller On” that turns on the controller and the system, but I don’t think the controller has IR in…

  • SupeRaven

Will the Blu-Ray 24hz audio sync issue be addressed in the Ferbruary update?

    • Nick Peck

That, external HD support and DD over optical are the 3 I’m waiting anxiously for :D

      • Allan

The External HD support is the big one for me. I have a 4TB USB 3.0 external drive that’s fully loaded with my entire movie collection ready and waiting. Plus, it’s a way faster drive than the crappy one the console shipped with, so gaming should improve too. Seriously MS and Sony. SATA 2? 5200RPM? The hell guys.

        • Adinnieken

You can’t saturate SATA 2 with a HDD, so there’s no reason to upgrade to SATA 3.

As for 5400RPM drives, sure they could go for faster drives but is the cost (to them) worth it? Probably not.

          • Allan

I suppose. Trouble was I dumped a lot of money on a new PC at about the same time, did a lot of research into each and every component. So at the same time I’m reading the console specs I have a tab on Anand where he’s benching an SSD on SATA3. The numbers aren’t even worth comparing. But I suppose, it did cost me 6X more.

          • Adinnieken

            I understand.

We all probably have different ideas on how the Xbox One could have been a more powerful console than it is. I don’t believe though that having an incredibly fast HDD/SSD would really improve things. It would have been a drop in the bucket.

        • Nick Peck

Yah I have a brand new 2tb USB 3.0 HD just waiting. I want to use it for moving over the digital games I’m done with and to save my Xbox movies / shows and the like. I’d rather have them on the drive instead of having to stream them all of the time.

Hopefully by then they give us the option to download our non game content. I read they don’t allow it because of the limited space, so yah, I hope that changes soon :D

          • Allan

I know, I can download movies from Xbox Video for offline viewing on my Phone and Tablet, which have 32G each. But the 500G Xbox has to stream…

        • Senses Failed

C’mon now, this is MS. You don’t actually think they’ll let you use just any external drive do you?!

        • WARLORD

LOL MS and Sony was thinking it’s cheaper.. But at least Sony gave people the option to upgrade the HDD.

          • Allan

They did and I like the option. However, I don’t like how you’re limited to a 2.5″ drive. Even 1TB seems like not enough.

    • Elan Gabriel

For myself, and many others, the latest (~10 days ago) Blu-ray app update fixed that. Try to re-install the app and see if it helped.

      • SupeRaven

I had tried it this past weekend and had the issue. Your comment on “re-install” seems to indicate that the box that is on whenever I watch TV doesn’t auto-update the apps though. That is really sad. I’ll try re-installing it tonight. Thanks for the heads up. Sad this is how I find out.

        • Nick Peck

I think there is a bug with how the updates roll out. Sometimes mine does it while in standby and sometimes I have to reinstall. No biggie since the apps are so small.

        • Elan Gabriel

It should auto-update, and maybe yours actually did. The “re-install” advice was just to be absolutely sure you’re running the latest version of the app (Just in case something went wrong with the auto-update for that).

    • Shakeslikecrazy

There’s an app update for that.

  • Legion

Hey Major, quick question: Can you answer, or point me to someone who could answer whether or not there is a plan to bring out a 1TB model of the Xbox One anytime soon? I haven’t purchased the new console yet, and would like to get a larger hard drive than 500 GB after reading about how much space downloading games takes up.

    • Adinnieken

External HDD support is planned. So you’ll be able to copy content to an external drive.

    • evilfangs .

I’m going to need external support sooner rather then later, I’m already at 127.7GB used on games.

Most games start coming out between March and December which is when I’ll be swimming in games.

      • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

How do you know how much you have used up?

        • evilfangs .

Checked each game I’ve installed and used a calculator to add them all up.

          • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Ohh okay . Did you factor in the updates?

          • evilfangs .

No, aren’t the updates included on the file size screen?

          • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

I’m almost positive that they aren’t :/ not 100% though bro!

          • evilfangs .

I wouldn’t have a clue where game update sizes are stored lol, maybe in thin air like our game saves.

          • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

            Haha really, though. Lol

          • Riddick Snipes

            U needed a calculator?

          • evilfangs .

Yea I used a calculator, so what?

      • Senses Failed

You get 360gb of free space, you should be alright for a while :)

    • Shakeslikecrazy

Not any time soon, but you can mod your Xbox One with higher capacity 2.5″drives ATM and those consoles are not banned from the service at this point. But waiting on the external HDD support might be a better option for some.

      • evilfangs .

Not exactly the smartest thing to say here.

      • Legion

        Thanks for the info!

  • Adinnieken

Major. How does the battery indicator work with multiple gamers?

Will a person need to say “Xbox: Show my stuff” to see the controller they have in hand or will multiple indicators appear up on the home screen, one for each controller?

How will this work for the 7th and 8th controller? Since those two people cannot have an assigned profile, how will they be able to determine the controller battery level?

    • Shakeslikecrazy

They should just make the logo on the controller blink when the battery is low for God’s sake. Removing the ring of light was a bad idea and should have just been divided in eights instead of quarters.

      • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Yeah I hate that they took away the 4 lights telling you which player you are. That kinda sucks.

        • evilfangs .

Apparently the light dims as the battery loses charge.

          • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Yeah I thought I saw a difference when it starts to die to be honest.. but I’m talking about the 360 controller telling you which player you are by having the 4 different lights. It was great

          • Allan

Yup, I don’t know why they took this out. I guess they figured with the Kinect knowing who has what controller, it didn’t matter. But that doesn’t help when a game says, “Player 2’s turn” and we all try to figure out who the hell is player 2.

          • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Haha for sure. Also I’ve had some problems with that whole kinect recognizing when you pass the controller thing. I had my little niece and nephew here playing marvel super heroes and every time we would pass controllers around it kept trying to ask who they were and they would sign in as guest but every single time it switched back it would keep asking them who they are.. it got so annoying

  • Robbie Boyd

Can we get a blu ray update so I can watch 3d movies?

    • ElektroDragon

That’s what your PS3 is for.

      • evilfangs .

I still use my blu-ray player while watching movies, but that’s more because I fall asleep watching them and the last thing I want to do is leave my X1 on all night.

That 1 hour activity doesn’t work if you have a moving title screen which most movies do now.

        • Allan

lol yup. I kept my BD player hooked up. I’d prefer to use one device to everything, but while there’s audio issues and lack of 3D. I couldn’t find a reason to stop using the player that I have no issues with.

        • Lucky13X

Yeah my X1 will stay ALL DAY because all Kinect has to do is detect ANYTHING moving or speaking and it resets that hour timer. May need to move it out of my room.

      • Robbie Boyd

The whole point of the xbox “one” was that it it was an all in one entertainment system I shouldn’t need to go back to ps3 when the xbox one is more than capable.

    • Nick Peck

Uninstall the BR app and reinstall it. I guess there was an update a week or so ago.

      • Allan

3D is supported now? This was snuck in?

        • Nick Peck

No, the audio sync issue. I don’t think 3D support was added, but then again I have no idea. I’m sure if it was we would have been told about it somewhere by now.

    • ETHREAL1

They can update everything on the one (except major OS updates) when the console is in standby so it is possible…

  • ElektroDragon

LOOK – Features you should have had Day One!

    • Nick Peck

Yup, just like all of the ps4’s missing day one features!!

      • kvfive

You do make me laugh Nick ;-)

        • Nick Peck

I try, but it is true, the ps4 is still missing a lot of standard things they should have had day one. Both systems just had some stuff delayed for whatever reason.

          • Allan

Yup. I’m a software guy, I’ve worked on big projects, I know how it goes. Both consoles are running on two completely different operating systems that their previous versions had. Things like 3D BD and media extending get pushed to the bottom of the list when you’re working on stuff like task switching and memory management. And when one of them decided they have enough working to release this Xmas the other guy has to do the same. In 2 years when all these features are in, we won’t remember all our impatience, and when the Xbox Two and PS5 come out, we’ll start back at the beginning.

          • ElektroDragon

It shouldn’t be that hard to port code. What this tells me is they don’t have the same software engineers working for them they had for last gen. Employee churn in software development is horrible.

          • Allan

I doubt they’d be able to port anything, honestly. With all the architecture and OS changes between the 360 and the One it’s probably a rewrite of all the plumbing.

          • A. J.

I’m glad there is someone around here that can put their mind around it. Most people expect that Microsoft just needs to Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V a bunch of code. They also don’t realize that the OS is a lot more than just the main GUI.

          • Allan

Yup, I wrote a little phone game for WP7 a couple years ago. Then ported it over to Android. It was the exact same game, with the exact same art. You know how much code I could keep? None. And that was a simple little game. For WP8 if I wanted to do it native, I’ve have to scrap it all and start over again. Every piece of hardware has it’s own intricacies. That’s why the big devs write engines to handle all of that. But when MS needs to get a ton of codecs working, there’s no freebees. It takes a long time to code folks.

          • Riddick Snipes

True, but ps4 has 40% more power without updates.

          • Rommel102

I don’t believe anyone named barackobama.

          • Allan

Sony did a great job selecting their hardware. Nobody’s denying it, I’m not sure why you guys keep bringing it up. We don’t care.

      • ElektroDragon

        Touché!

  • Lucky13X

That lack of storage space management was confusing as HECK

  • William Montgomery

Battery indicator & disk managment! Thank you. I never knew how much I depended on the battery indicator until it wasn’t there.

  • JC

Does this update add the ability to run games at 1080p at 60fps?

    • NarcoSleepy

The resolution and FPS is on a per game basis and is set by the developer, not the console.

      • JC

Sorry, I was just concerned since I’m seeing so many comments and reviews that are showing games running and looking better on the PS4 and I may get an Xbox in the future.

        • Allan

No you won’t, you’re just trolling. You can go now.

          • JC

I really am but all these reports of games struggling just to run at 720p on the Xbox and MS having to take away resources from the Kinect to try to close the vast performance gap with the PS4 worries me as a potential Xbox owner.

          • Allan

Sure, keep telling yourself that kid.

          • Matt McBriarty

He actually posted a legit question and voiced an actual problem with the Xbox One. You are actually the one trolling him Allan.

          • Allan

No, he’s been trolling all up and down this thread from the start. All his posts are the same.

          • Riddick Snipes

Haha. Ignoring it while u play. Most stupid thing I’ve heard. If ur ignoring it while u play a game in 720p and still really enjoy then that just means you would absolutely love playing it on the ps4. Get a clue.

          • Ross

So just do what the rest of us are all doing and ignore all that and have fun with the games.

As far as I am concerned, as long as the reason for a lower resolution is to keep a 60fps target, then it’s fine with me. Once you are in the game and having fun you don’t really notice or think about how you are playing a less powerful console anyway….

          • Riddick Snipes

Different resolutions don’t count for trolling. Its an absolutely valid point to make.

          • Allan

It was trolling, the topic is in regards to a software update that adds some missing features. His posts ranged from, does it add particular hardware, to does it reduce the price. Come on.

      • Riddick Snipes

Yeah….. its set by the developer BECAUSE of the consoles power!

    • Riddick Snipes

A fool would downvote this mate.

    • EldritchWarlord

No, they cannot add a feature the console already has.

  • Allan

Played through Ryse. It has zero frame rate issues.

    • barackobama

Yea bro played through it on all difficulties before it was cool to do so.

Let me be more specific mate, it has serious frame issues in Multiplayer! I have a golden HDMI Cable and a 52 inch Sony Bravia 1080p 800 Hz motion flow thing tv.

      It has framerate Issues.

      • Allan

Well first off, your “golden” HDMI Cable and 52″ TV don’t have anything to do with the performance of a console. So I’m not sure why you brought that up.

Secondly, I don’t know what to tell you, I tried the multiplayer (which sucks, btw), but fps was the same as SP. Me thinks you’re full of bull dodo.

        • barackobama

Multiplayer is great. But it has framerate issues. live in denial , speak to your Kinect instead of playing through your games at 1080p. iam cool.

          • Allan

Uh huh, every one definitely believes you. Cause you’re not trolling at all.

          • Riddick Snipes

Allan if ever a console generation deserved trolling believe me it is this generation.

  • https://live.xbox.com/MyXbox/Profile?gamertag=DarkGin87 Lee Rayson (DarkGin87)

Hmmm im sure I had a convo with someone of how fast the dashboard would get up to standards (of course there still things that need to be looked at but im guessing by the end of the year everything we need will be there)
    Nice looking patch
Any news on a final xbox 360 update ?

  • IvanCD(MaidenLOKO)

I totally agree with you about Ryse!

  • barackobama

would be awesome if the new super update transforms the kinect into a more powerful GPU.

    • ikari_paul

maybe they can re-allocate some % occupied by kinect, do some optimization, but it wont drastically enhance the X1.

  • Realmusik Recordz

Thanks microsoft!!! Awsome stuff! Get well soom major nelson.

  • darren williams

cant wait till battlefield 4 gets fixed i only played through the first stage like 6 times and my save file gets deleted wtf like how long does it take

    • William Montgomery

Ask DICE…I was lucky & only had that problem once. I truly feel for you.

  • usrev

I like this “explain what the next update has” thing. what are the “behind the scene” updates though? anything good? less ram needed for OS? less gpu power needed for something?

  • fastharryDOTcom

wow..nice….as the owner of a ONE…which is only TWO days old. nice to see an update coming…..any questions, please ask away…

  • billy middleton

FINALLY we get control over storage.

BUT I feel it will be very very very limited

    • Allan

I suspect it will simply be a notifier on how much space you have left. You’re not going to be able to manage system folders or anything.

      • Adinnieken

Most likely it’ll be like the Xbox 360’s, which was near perfect for a console. The only missing feature that the Xbox 360’s file management needed was the ability to select multiple files.

        • billy middleton

I hope your right I really really hope

      • billy middleton

what you said is what we already have

  • billy middleton

    I have a question.
given that the xbox one is now region free ….. why cant we have the blueray drive on the xbox one set as region free.
the reason I ask is that there are editions of movie releases that are not here in the uk due to being over priced ((seriously pacific rim collectors in the uk was £90 compared to the converted price of £40 including post / packaging in the usa))

    • HGamer

Movie copyrights are different from games. Game companies may not mind when console company force them region free. Movie companies can refuse to do so.

      • billy middleton

same movies in the same markets under the same name.
copyright is not the issue…its just money

        • HGamer

Yes, the ultimate reason is money. That’s why there are these copyright things. Movie companies want those money. MS has no say in it.

    • Tyvan Johnston

It is because Microsoft has to pay for the movie and is forced to set the price and make a profit where as local stores are the backbone of movie sales hollywood thinks

  • http://matejgottwald.wordpress.com/ Matěj Gottwald

Now we’re talking! Keep it up, Microsoft!

  • xxMort

I hope that Dolby Digital is coming in one of these.

  • Virus

At least let us pre-order digital games already

    • Allan

      And pre-load.

      • dibils

pre-load would be much better, preordering digital is pointless

    • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Sorry what? You’ve been going on like a loser on this forum all day about why you don’t own an xbox one and blah blah.. so why the hell do you care if us owners can preorder digital games or not ? You must have a lot of time on your hands.

  • Foggen

I hope the next update adds “Party Support no longer garbage”.

  • HGamer

“These are just a few of the many updates we will be shipping on February
    11. We’ll share more details on these and other upcoming features in
the coming weeks. We have several surprises in store that we think
    you’ll love.”

I don’t understand why being secretive here.
It’s not a game, it’s not a movie, it’s just a freaking system update. No need to tease about it.
And it’s just a week away. You should simply tell us what’s in there.

Or there is in fact nothing else?

    • Allan

I thought the same thing. I suspect there’s nothing major, or that would have been the headline. But who knows.

    • https://live.xbox.com/MyXbox/Profile?gamertag=DarkGin87 Lee Rayson (DarkGin87)

It not teasing but perhaps making us aware.
Also some part of the update can be removed for extra development time so

    • Ross

Could just be a case of the other big features they want in it may or may not be ready in time, so for now they are just announcing the things they know for sure will make it.

Or the other stuff in the update is fairly minor and not really worth mentioning atm.

    • Riddick Snipes

They r being secretive cause they know the update has nothing spectacular, just the feeble things that should have come with the launch. If they released the whole list then everyone will rip them a new one on the forums, so they figure they don’t need that. Almost everything so far with the Titanic has been lies and letdowns anyways.

  • Jason

    Dolby Digital please!!!!

    • ilovegoogleglass

      I agree

    • Riddick Snipes

Right on brother. This is a absolutely disgraceful. The original Xbox had Dolby digital outta the box at launch. That was like 12 years ago!!

      • Allan

        Agreed.

    • Danny Hogan

100% We need Dolby digital, guys we need to post or contact support about this otherwise this will be ignored on this site

  • ilovegoogleglass

    Nice

  • vampero

    PARTY CHAT YES !!!!!!

  • Kurt Brock

USB external drive support and battery display is all I need.

  • Virus

Drop the Kinect and made the Xbone for $350-380 & I will buy one for Titanfall no way am I spending an extra $100 to play most games in 720p or 30fps

    • Allan

Play it on PC, then you can have it at 1440p at 90 fps. And quit trolling with the whole “Drop the Kinect” mantra. It’s not going to happen. Ever. The ship has long sailed. Just get a PS4, enjoy gaming. Have fun

  • http://twitter.com/xionone xionone

“adding some options for controlling when I want the Kinect to act as my mic for chat”

That option is already available in the system settings.

  • moebiouz

Will the March 4 update do anything in relation to Titanfall for Australians? At the moment, without the Azure service – the majority of us will not be purchasing this game as it will be unplayable with a 200+ ms ping to Singapore (our closest data centre).

    • http://www.mayoand.co Aron Mayo

Azure is definitely coming to Australia. Shouldn’t be too long before there are servers running for the game here. There are Azure data centers in Melbourne and Sydney….not sure what the status is on them right now though.

      • moebiouz

Thanks for the reply, Aron. Unfortunately, we hear that they won’t be online until at least November this year. Too late for Titanfall, and the gaming community here is generally deciding to give it a miss due to this fact. A shame, really.

      • evilfangs .

How do you know where Microsoft’s data centers are?

I’d like to know where my nearest one is.

        • moebiouz

The locations of the data centers are:

          North America
          North-central US – Chicago, IL
South-central US – San Antonio, TX
          West US – California
          East US – Virginia
          Asia
East Asia – Hong Kong, China
          South East Asia – Singapore
          Europe
          North Europe – Dublin, Ireland
          West Europe – Amsterdam, Netherlands
          Oceania (announced, coming soon)
Sydney, New South Wales (announced, coming soon)
          Melbourne, Victoria (announced, coming soon)

Coming soon, unfortunately doesn’t help us. We miss out on the Titanfall experience.

          • evilfangs .

Wow mine is Dublin, which means It’s across the whole country for me.

I’d have thought Microsoft would have chosen a location which has good internet and not the poor internet Ireland gets. I guess Dublin is cheaper.

I’d rather connect to the West Europe center then Ireland’s.

          • Hail V

Yep – I’ve just checked, and I’m in South Wales – a stones throw from Dublin – but I get 30% better ping time to Rouen in France than Dublin!! I also lose 1MBit of download speed… Weird…

          • QBRT55

            Pfft.. you europeans…

“Mine is a across the whole country”.

My PROVINCE is bigger than your whole country.

  • fastharryDOTcom

everyone wants a battery indicator..but hates voice recognition…”I’d rather do everything manual”……so take your batteries out and test them or buy a plug and play kit with a lithium battery….what is the problem?…..

    • Markie Mark

The problem for me is that the controller would suddenly cut out whilst gaming and often during critical moments. I have the Play-and-Charge kit too. Having a battery level indicator is a massive bonus for me in this respect.

      • fastharryDOTcom

I can see that side too….I have 6 hours on a set of Alkalines and so far they are like new when tested….I am going to get the plug and play kit eventually.

        • J.Merritt

I have many sets of Energizer rechargeables as I only use rechargeable batteries in my home. I’ve only had to switch them out twice since I’ve gotten the console. It’s worth the invest.

          • fastharryDOTcom

I thought about that too….since I have them also…but, in the end, I just ordered the batt kit from Costco…like the idea that it is a lithium battery…..

  • Allan

The SP in Ryse was underrated. Still, I did feel the game could have been much better. The combat got rather tedious, rather quickly, but I enjoyed the story. They needed to work on the upgrades though, those were pretty lame. I never bothered switching my execution bonus off Health cause that alone allowed me to move through the game rather easily. Gameplay wise it was no God of War. I’m hoping there will be a sequel though, where all these issues get addressed. A sequel that isn’t rushed through development like this was. Damocles FTW!

  • moebiouz

Unless Microsoft are working some kind of bandwidth miracle, it seems unlikely the Titanfall update will be of any use in Aus. Response times to servers in Hong Kong yields results of 260ms (milliseconds) or higher. Doing the same test to Singapore returns results of 300ms or higher.

    • Allan

      Australia huh? Dragon’s be there!

      • moebiouz

Sure are. saw one this morning waiting for my bus. 30cm long at a guess.

    • Hobiologe

How r u guys playing Battlefield? Or does DICE host local servers in ANZ?

      • moebiouz

Local servers for Battlefield – although EA have stated they won’t be setting any up for Titanfall. The only thing EA seem to love about the Aus gamer is our money.

  • Daryl Aiken

Great to hear. Much sooner then I expected. I’m hoping external hard drive support is around the corner. I think I am close to the limit.

    • dibils

you must have downloaded every game released lol

      • Daryl Aiken

No, but I own 5 retail and 3 downloaded titles. So probably still some room. I like to have lots of free space though and also know how much I have left.

  • DavidinCT

When are you going to fix achievements, parties, friends lists, etc ?Everything was almost perfect on the xbox 360, easy to access, and quick to join friends or parties. On the Xbox one, it’s a MAJOR step backwards, just like when the 360 first came out.

Why didn’t you take the things that people loved from the 360 and move it over to the Xbox one….it would of been a better product right out of the gate….

and Where is the Kinect Ext cable ? Do you know I have never used my Kinect on my Xbox one because it’s about 15′ too short ? I am missing out and I would like to enjoy it, please release one now…

  • Riddick Snipes

    Wow.

  • Riddick Snipes

You’re right its an Xbox blog. Which means if someone wants to say something positive about the Xbox one then they can come here. But, it also means if someone wants to say something negative about the Xbox one then they also can come here.

  • Chris McLaughlin

I would like to have better control over my video library. I want to delete junk that I don’t or won’t ever watch. If they would allow that I would buy more stuff from the video marketplace. This is why I use vudu, or iTunes. Please allow that Microsoft!!!

  • http://nickspaargaren.nl/reactiepagina Nick

party chat trough xbox one and xbox 360?

    • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

You know that’s not possible right? The xbox one and the 360 use 2 completely different architectures as well as different audio codes… haven’t you noticed how clear the voice chat is on the xbox one compared to your 360 ? That’s why…

      • HGamer

The codec should be software-implemented only. MS can put the X360-codec into X1 too and that’s it. Yeah, by this way you can’t chat with a X360 guy and a X1 guy at the same time. But hey at least you can join a X360 party if you want to.

  • Steve

Are they planning to fix the problem where I have to unplug and then rep lug in my xbox every few days or I won’t be able to load a game? Because it sends me back to the dashboard…

    • Does Not Equal

Turn off the controller, hold the power button on the system to shut it down. Turn it back on and your games will load.

      • Steve

Quicker to unplug, replug and turn it back on. Besides I shouldn’t have to do that. Never an issue on the 360.

        • Does Not Equal

I’m pretty sure it’s the soft shutdown that causes the problem. In any case, I imagine that’ll be addressed.

        • dibils

turn on power saving setting in the power settings

that will fully turn off the system everytime you turn it off (no standby)

    • neil fitch

instant on don’t even work on my xbox one, either doesn’t connect the kinect, controller, or mic on controller, so i have to have that feature off

    • Senses Failed

I bloody hope so :) i never bothered with the 360 but i try to remember to unplug the one every night to avoid the issue, still happens sometimes though

  • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Hahaha I just died at this comment. Lol I’ve never experienced anything that bad haha! Just the controller issue that time… The kinect recognizes my girlfriend and I great. Did you know that if it doesn’t pick up a person u can go into the settings and say “I wasn’t recognized” then it’ll take another snap of that person and everY time you do this the kinect recognizes you better and better. Since we did this a few times now we get recognized instantly ! Hope that helps bro

    • Allan

Ooooooh, I’ll give this a shot. Thanks!
