More details on the Multiplayer and Party Updates for Xbox One Coming in March

With the next Xbox One update scheduled to come out this week, Marc Whitten has posted details about what to expect in our March update, including details around the imporvements we’re making to Xbox One multiplayer and parties:

  • Get to your friends list faster. The friends list will be front and center on the homepage of the Friends app. Click the Social tile on Home, or say “Xbox, go to Friends” to see who’s online and what they’re up to. From there you can quickly send messages and get into a party.
  • Party chat will be turned on by default. When you party up, chat audio will be turned on by default.
  • Chat with friends playing different games. Party chat will be separated from people playing your game, so you can chat with your friends who are online or you can chat with everyone playing the game.
  • We’re adding an “Invite friends to game” option to your multiplayer titles moving forward. Similar to Xbox 360 titles, this will appear inside a games’ menu and offer a simple and quicker way to set up your multiplayer battles. Selecting “Invite friends” will let you invite friends to your game and party.
  • We’re adding “Recent Players.” This is a simple list that shows you Xbox Live members you’ve recently played with, making it easier to stay in touch with people, or add new friends after your multiplayer battles.

  • David Do0M

All much needed improvements. I feel like these were always intended to be included and perhaps in the rush to launch this year, got dropped from the day one agenda.

    • bill

      I share this theory also.

  • Virus

No we’re all waiting for the Xbox One without Kinect update not paying for something I will never use or plug in #Wasteofmoney

    • David Do0M

I don’t think “we’re all” applies there chief. I could easily say ‘We’re all loving our Kinect sensors” but I don’t try to speak for everyone else. I could afford an Xbox One with Kinect and I, for one, am glad it was included.

      • HGamer

I like Kinect too. What MS needs to do is not unbundle it, but to give us some decent Kinect games and lower the console price (with Kinect still bundled)

      • Virus

One of the Xbox employees all ready said on twitter that 37% of all Xbox One owners have the Kinect Unplugged

        • David Do0M

Oh yea? Did you pull that off Neogaf or Reddit?

          • Virus

some guy named aaron greenberg works for microsoft / xbox

          • Allan

Couldn’t find any tweet where he said this. You’ll have to provide a link.

        • Core

I’d want you to find the source for that. I went through his tweets to quite far back and even searched with his name and Kinect and there were not a single trace to such comment. I’m also pretty sure that the news would’ve went viral if he really said that. But I’ll believe you when you show such tweet exists :P

        • Rommel102

If true, that’s 37% of all XB1 owners that are having a frustrating time navigating the console UI and missing out on an integral part of the console experience.

Xbox On makes me feel so damned good.

        • Speedkiller

u can always unplug it like i do. i only plug it back in when im about to play a game that would use it

    • bill

Have you actually sat on a couch and used an xbox 1 with kinect? Or are you one of those that fought the internet? This is coming from an xb1 user that hates using voice commands on their smartphone. Kinect works very well.

    • donnyskillz

Who is (we, re all?) Because your the only one talking , go play your ps4 and stop infecting people

    • Does Not Equal

Are you going to hold your breath while you wait?

  • Swat

    Never mind

    • David Do0M

You will still have the option to turn it off. This just means that when you join a party, party chat will already be on, you can turn it off if you choose, as opposed to the way it is now. Currently, when you join a party, party chat Iis off by default and you have the option to turn it on. We are not losimg these option, the default is merely being set to on.

  • thebrit

WOW – AWESOME – FANTASTIC!!! Soon the Xbox One will have all the features THE XBOX 360 ALREADY HAS – sheesh what a cluster.

    • kvfive

      Ya know it ;)

    • CXK

I normally would down vote comments like this but its so sad that its TRUE. I don’t get it. Microsoft took steps backwards and it seems like they’re dead silent on delivering on most of them. I own 5 Xbox 360s and I still consider it one of the best consoles of all time, probably my favorite personally. Did they cut the Xbox team in half? I don’t know how this console released missing so many essential features. I could have gladly waited until late this year or even 2015 so this could have been fixed. Even the PS4 seems a little off, like it was rushed.

      • Nostalgia

OMG Seriously @tomo008866:disqus & @CXK:disqus .. So many people seem to think they’re some kind of expert. First, because of the huge, uneducated public backlash, Microsoft had to make a TON of changes, like @disqus_QVdwRDPbo9:disqus said above. That would have taken a lot of time away from working on additional features. PLUS! The Xbox 360 didn’t release with all the features it has now, it took 8 years to build up its collection of features.

So again, while it’s unfortunate that a lot of features weren’t added by the time of release, it’s clear Microsoft is listening and working on bringing us features that we’re asking for. Enough with the Microsoft Hate bandwagon! If people cared about the Xbox brand as much as they claim, they will stop the bashing and start providing CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and feedback. End

        • David Okon

All criticism is constructive if you choose to do something about it…

Besides, I don’t see any hate in their posts, just concern that that Microsoft isn’t interested in meeting their needs. Changes aside, the X1′s UI should have at least been as functional as the 360′s. It would appear that MS just decided to change design philosophies in order to match win8 and left a lot of loose ends in the process (a.k.a. most of functionality associated with the Guide).

          • Nostalgia

I won’t deny that the new UI isn’t as seamless or user-friendly as it was on the Xbox 360 but the old “Blades” dashboard wasn’t either. And I mainly emphasized “constructive” because Microsoft bashing doesn’t do anything.

“So this is what brand loyalty gets you” – @tylerslavens:disqus

That is NOT constructive criticism, that’s just insulting. And yes, regards of what the internet tells you, you don’t need to swear to insult someone.

Now constructive criticism, look at the comments made by @disqus_H7OPkPq0an:disqus.

Again, saying “Hey dude, stop being fat” is NOT constructive.

          • David Okon

You’re still just looking at the insults and ignoring the actual message. Take your statement about being fat for instance; if you look past the insult, you’re left with a statement: “You’re overweight.” If you were to take just that statement and ask yourself if you’re ok with being overweight, or if your being overweight is an issue for others, you would end up with a positive result. Either you’ll resolve to lose weight or you’ll be more confident in yourself because you’ve determined that being overweight is acceptable to you.

Apply that to business and say, “This person is upset. Are they justified in being upset? Will our product be better if we make the changes they propose?” and you end up with the best possible product as well as a loyal customer base.

In short, yes people are often rude, but that doesn’t necessarily make them wrong.

          • Nostalgia

If you call a fat person out for being fat, that’s obviously rude but it’s subjective. Just like with business, oh this person is upset. But is he upset because of what we actually did or is he just upset because he’s upset. Most of the Microsoft bashing is simply because people want to bash on Microsoft.

A loyal customer base? All these people who claim to be loyal to the Xbox brand and upset with where Microsoft has taken Xbox, they all forget that Microsoft IS Xbox and a bunch of their LOYALISTS’ proposals are simply to make the Xbox One nothing but a clone of the PS4. Telling a company to be just like the other guy is NEVER constructive, especially when you insult them because they aren’t bending over for YOU.

But seriously, “still just looking at the insults and ignoring the actual message”. If I walked outside and picked out someone at random and started saying everything that came to mind about what’s wrong with this person, said person is just going to shrug it off and ignore all of it or it’s going to make them extremely depressed. BUT you want them to look at the message, that I simply have a random hate for them. That’s the message and that’s all the Microsoft bashing and insults are, random hate with zero constructive purpose.

            COME ON NOW!

          • David Okon

Customers are loyal to the companies that are loyal to them. This is something a lot of companies (especially Microsoft) tend to forget. NOBODY (with the exception of imbeciles) is loyal to a brand just because it’s a brand. So what if they want features present on the PS4, wouldn’t that just make the X1 more competitive? Wouldn’t that be constructive to the brand? Do you listen to yourself talk?

If you were to go up to someone and tell them your observations about them in that manner, there would still be truth to your statements and they wouldn’t be “random hate.” The person could still improve themselves through it.

You’re clearly not willing to see things from this perspective, so I’ll just leave it at this.

          • Nostalgia

Seriously! You think walking up to someone and randomly insulting them about everything that comes to mind is CONSTRUCTIVE? I still have remarks to make about your “brand” theory which is completely false, anyone who’s visited the Xbox forums knows wrong you are and a remark reminding you that competition is key to Capitalism and having two identical consoles removes that competition.

But how delusional you seem to be, that ANYONE would see if from your twisted perceptive, that they’ve take such a blast of insults and improve themselves from it..I don’t know you but you must be trolling b/c I doubt even you could be that delusional.

You’re right though, I’m down here. Anyone who thinks randomly insulting the hack out of someone is constructive, doesn’t deserve another second of my time. BYE!

    • Tomo

I don’t understand why they didn’t start with the Xbox 360′s dashboard as a template, and improve it from there. Like, where the hell is the Xbox Guide? The Xbox One’s user experience has been severely affected from the lack of Xbox Guide. That was an excellent feature on the Xbox 360. There is no simple and fast equivalent on the Xbox One until something similar is added to it.

  • HGamer

I am still astounded why these features were not there at launch. It feels like someone high up in the xbox department deliberately weaken X1 to let PS4 win.

    • Lucky13X

Don’t agree on your PS4 belief, but it is odd these feature were missing.

      • Tjalsma

Not sure if you remember, but MS made a TON of changes prior to the XB1 launch. I am sure that had they not had to make so many changes at the 11th hour, many of these features would’ve been included at launch.

  • fastharryDOTcom

    and the update be where?

  • thebrit

update no longer coming out today, sometime this week they are finalizing it.

  • Tjalsma

Just bring back the old system – hitting the Xbox Button should bring up the party window. The current way of double tapping the Xbox Button to switch between snapped programs should just be changed to double tapping the Menu button.

Also, add an icon on the top/bottom of the screen, like you are doing with the battery icon, to show if you have any invites, etc.

  • kvfive

Wonderful news Larry !! More ways of extracting cash from your customers, and today’s update is where ?

    • rkm80

You have to manually update. It isn’t automatic..

      • kvfive

Yeah I’ve known about that, it’s there to grab now is it ? Thanks.

        • rkm80

Actually, I think I am incorrect about that. It isn’t releasing today, apparently. Sorry about that.

    • Gazza!!!

Check his twitter. Its running late.

      • kvfive

        Cheers Gazza :-)

      • Devonte Pollard

Ok thank you for the info.

  • Devonte Pollard

Where’s the info about the system update for today? I thought it would happen over night like last time but it didn’t?

    • Mike

Party system update is in march todays update was delayed still coming this week though.

      • Devonte Pollard

Ok thank you for the info do you know wat time it will be happening?

  • Gazza!!!

Finally recent players list. I’m fed up trying to remember GT’s of the racist, homophobic trolls I come across on FIFA pro clubs.

  • Captain Raj

This has to be the best X1 update to date. Love it. Thanks xbox team.

  • Snake eyes 211

This is just garbage you can’t even get an update out in time that’s just horrible and the one that’s coming out in March I bet that one I’ll be out in time to turn our Xbox ones back into it 360

    • Mike

Sorry they like to make sure things are perfect instead of releasing a update that will brick your console (Sony)

      • DigitalSyrup

Down voted by SDF. Seriously, let them fix the patch. Otherwise, it will be bitching about how your Xbox one got bricked.

        • DigitalSyrup

          Predicted

  • Pizzle

This is nice now they need to add a “Join session in progress” when trying to join friends who are already playing. some games have it Like BF4 and some don’t like DR3 it would be nice if MS gave us a default version just like on 360

  • FartingTroll

    Online Friend Notifications?

    • Mike

They said they were working on that trying to find a way to make it work since now you can have 1000 friends. Still dont know why they just dont give notifications for the people on your favorites list.

      • WARLORD

It’s not hard just make it so we can select the friends we want to see if they come online.

        • usrev

          Best friend’s list.

    • avi

thin they’re just trying to figure out how to implement it since you can have so many friends now.
I just say give us that feature via toggle options, so we can turn it on or off.
or let us toggle the friends that we want notifications from.

  • Senses Failed

You delay an update that essentially just tells us how much space we had, and added a battery indicator!? What the hell happened to the guys there who designed the 360!?

  • Pete

Party chat automatically on… I’m gonna miss the current “xyz has joined the party”, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 … “Hi xyz”

I won’t miss it if they fix the dead chat and identification issues though: “xyz has joined the party”, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 … [xyz reconnects mic], “xyz has left the party”, [xyz signs out and back in], “xyz has joined the party”, “xyz has left the party”, [xyz reboots], “xyz has joined the party”, [xyz realises Kinect thinks he someone else], “hi xyz”.

While the auto-sign in is great is some cases it’s also a bit of a pain like when family members wander through the room and are instantly signed in. It’s also a complete nightmare when my little un asks me to help with something and as soon as I get the controller it starts complaining I’m on the wrong profile.

The potential is huge but I do wonder if any of this was tested in the real world instead of just a laboratory of one.

“Xbox Show My Stuff” … the phrase I am determined to see work one day. All indications suggest the right profile is identified (highlighted profile picture, little bar underneath) but still it just refreshes the current profile.

I turned it all off for a while but that comes with it’s own issues.

Waffley rant over. Hopefully all of this will be fixed with the coming updates.

Oh, forgot the biggy! For the love of god please put a confirmation when launching a game while another is open. I’ve had the dashboard lag a fair few times and more than once accidentally selected another game which unceremoniously just kills the one I was playing. :-(

  • kevgallacher

When you say “this week”, do you mean today as last post said 11th Feb

    • chrisbaker3

      Per @majornelson’s twitter feed:

“FYI: The February #XboxOne System Update will ship this week, but not today. The team is working on finalizing. More details when I get them”

      So, it’s not happening today.

      • kvfive

Let’s be honest here…. Is anyone surprised by the delay ??

  • Lucky13X

FINALLY a Recent Players list. And I take it it will be easy to then build up that 1,000 followers limit. Thank you for that!

    • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Hey, I actually think the followers list is unlimited, it’s the friends list that tops out at 1000

    • Gazza!!!

Major has around 25000 followers on his Xbox one profile.

      • KrisXX

        so dumb!!

  • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

    It always did

  • Pidde

Will Dolby Digital come to Xbox one?

  • kevgallacher

What about fixing snap so we can play music in background? I want to play music whilst playing games full screen, is this too much to ask. I would assume this would be one line of code. Group chat works in background so should music.

  • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Was pretty excited to update my Xbox today.. Aw well, I’m sure it’ll be worth it. Anyone know anything about friend notifications when they come online? I really miss that.

    • Nick Peck

There is still an update coming out today, it’s just the update for this article is the one coming next month. Todays update is what fixes the lists, adds the battery indicator and lets you manage storage / see disk space ect.

      • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Nah bro :/ the one today got pushed to later in the week! Check Larrys twitter

      • Speedkiller

that update comes out on the 14th

  • Brian

Still need Friend Notifications and would love to talk to my friends still on Xbox 360

  • chuckyj

What is the Status of the any off the shelf EXTERNAL USB 3.0 HDD Compatibility that was promised then quickly hit the back burner…. Any updates?

    • Mike Glynn

I think HDD support is coming on todays update.

      • chuckyj

I haven’t heard anything that would lead me to believe it will come in this update or the March update. Just saying to Major Nelson or to MS in general… a little update about this pretty big promise would be nice…

        • Mike Glynn

Ok, just went back to where i saw the info i saw on it and its been removed, so they must have got it wrong. Sorry guys

    • ElektroDragon

Combine this with the non-user replaceable HDD and its one of the chief reasons PS4 is my main console and X1 will be just the exclusives machine this time around. Can’t trust what Xbox division says as 2013 proved how fickle they can be.

      • http://twitter.com/xionone xionone

I feel the benefits of a user replaceable HDD are overstated. You can upgrade to a 1 TB drive, but then you have a 500 GB drive sitting there unused. I went through this with 3 HDDs for the 360 and realized how all those unused HDDs added up.

External HDD support is still the way to go.

        • http://www.twitter.com/OtisFeelgood1 OtisFeelgood

You can put that 500gb hard drive into a hard drive enclosure. I prefer Sony’s replaceable HD method compared to Microsoft’s.

          • http://twitter.com/xionone xionone

To each their own. There’s also the matter of the internal HDD reserving space for the OS. With additional external storage besides the internal drive, that becomes a non factor and the externals are strictly for data/media. Like I said, I just don’t see the benefits of swapping out the internal drives.

        • usrev

the ps3/4 hard drives are literally laptop hard drives, you can put them into a laptop, put them into a desktop if you want an extra HDD, and as others have said you can put them in an enclosure for external storage.

or you can sell them, a 500gb HDD (the ps4 standard) sells new for like $60, so you could probably sell it for $30 on ebay.

the best part though the hard drives aren’t over priced, when the 250gb HDD came out on 360 it was like $200. a 1TB hdd at the time was probably $110. so 4 times the space at nearly half the price.

          • http://twitter.com/xionone xionone

Being able to use it in another device doesn’t take away from the inability to not use it with the PS4 after swapping, neither is selling it or using an enclosure (since external storage is not yet supported).

Still no real benefit to swapping, imo.

          • usrev

the benefit is more storage, and possibly faster drive if you fork out the cash you literally can’t buy a bigger than 320gb HDD for the 360 and it’s BS because there is no technical reason you can’t aside MS wants to sell their xbox labeled drives for 4 times the cost of a normal HDD.

          • http://twitter.com/xionone xionone

Knew I recognized your name. Same guy that I’ve seen posting on NowInStock also. Ha… small internet!

          • usrev

I only posted there 1 time.

        • ElektroDragon

I guess you’ve never heard of eBay.

          • http://twitter.com/xionone xionone

So you’d rather sell it than actually be able to use it? That’s interesting.

          • WARLORD

Or he could just save the HDD for a rainy day. Least face HDD die or go bad all the time. You could just keep the old one for back up.

          • http://twitter.com/xionone xionone

Yep. Of course, that makes a little too much sense to some people.

      • chuckyj

I’m more of an X1 guy myself, but there’s no reason MS is so quite on a feature that was suppose to be there from day one…
Overall they are both awesome systems….I plan to eventually own both, but right now just have an X1… now give me MORE HDD SPACE MS!

  • http://www.yakkowarner.com/ Yakko Warner

I’m a little concerned about “adding an ‘Invite friends to game’ to titles moving forward”. Does this mean party invite management will still be handled by the games? Every game does multiplayer differently, and it’s very annoying and confusing, especially when you compare it to the nice, centralized function we had on the 360. I shouldn’t have to hunt through each game’s menu system to figure out where this developer put my party functions compared to that developer. This is a huge step backwards, like the mess we had on the original Xbox.

  • Pearson Smith

Thankyou! I’ve had such a hard time joining friends, especially when you have to use Battlelog in BF4.

    • kvfive

I’d save you’re thanks until you actually have a working update :(

  • http://kinglizzle.com/ Lizzle

So disappointed with my Xbox One. Even with the new changes I’m far less likely to play with friends or join MP stuff. No friend notifications, having to use separate apps to access friends or only being able to access parties by clunky snap. Also don’t like any party member being able to change party privacy. If I’ve set up a party as private I want it to stay that way.

This combined with the lack of surround sound and no support for wireless chat means X1 is just a hassle to use. I’ve had it since launch day and barely used it to game which is a shame. Unless I’m sat with no headset and sound coming from speakers there’s no point. Definitely not set up for a multiplayer experience and new updates don’t address that in any meaningful way.

One last big gripe – the achievements app. Seeing which I had unlocked or needed to unlock on 360 was so fast and simple. On X1 it is so clunky and un-intuitive that I no longer really hunt achievements or have any awareness of them.

Giving serious thought to selling the X1 and just sticking with 360 where everything is user-friendly.

    • ElektroDragon

Lack of friend notification popups is a godsend, are you nuts? I mean they could make it an OPTIONAL feature, but forced on like 360 unless you disable ALL notices? Hell no.

      • RayMadeMeDoIt

I personally keep my friends list to a very few people who I would actually care to play with but I can see how it could get annoying for people with a big list. To strike a balance there could be a range of options such as “Show notifications for all friends”, “Show notifications for favourites” and “Disable notifications”. That would cater for everyone and allow people to tailor their experience to the way they choose to use Xbox.

Often I’ll play a game solo whilst I wait for friends to come online so I like to have the notification. I don’t want to keeping going back to the dashboard out of what I’m doing to frequently check.

  • Deoster

The OS is still far behind the 10 years old Xbox 360. It feels clunky, slow and laggy. I really can’t stand playing multiplayer on the X1. Everything good about the xbox 360 dashboard is either gone or made worse.

    • The Watcher

sounds like it’s just your problem because i don’t have those issues

  • Xenokai

Im also dissapointed in these update features. These are nice small changes that are being a bit hyped as huge additional upgrades, getting to the friend list easily should of just been a small fix not a feature change. IMO Also whats the “Chat with friends playing different games.”? Because you can already do that on xbox one, what gives?

Fixing party chat is nice but stuff like adding a DLNA/USB mp3/wma music player that can be played in the background and not have to be snapped like all the other apps is a must. Background music player was something that was a given in my mind since 360 had that since day 1 and the original xbox had a form of it. But not on Xbox One? Or feature like the universal invert-y setting that was a huge reason why I stuck with my 360 over my other systems simply because of how easy and painless it was to have the system always know and set my inversion setting.

I just feel while these changes are welcome, but shouldnt be the big changes of these updates. I hope you guys keep listening to what us fans say and add the stuff we really need/want.

    • Mike Glynn

Agreed. I miss the sytem video player.

  • evilfangs .

It always has, just unsnap it once you’ve invited people.

  • B00ME

Should have been like this at launch. Does anyone at MS actually use the Xbox One for gaming? It sure doesn’t seem like it and perception is everything. You can say you do, but the OS features mistakes and other hassles say otherwise.

    • ElektroDragon

I think it was originally supposed to be a full fledged cable box with tuner and DVR plus ability to run Win 8 Metro apps, but they decided to throw in game playing abilities at the last minute. *ducks and runs*

  • Brian

with 1000 friends that would be insane. You’d never stop seeing them. I would be OK with only seeing your favorites, though.

Having 1000 friends on Xbox Live is insane. I don’t know anyone who has that many friends on Xbox Live. I think the average person has less than 50 and of that 50 probably between 1 and 10 online at a time. The notifications setup would basically be just like it is on the Xbox 360. On the Xbox 360 you get notified every time a friend signs on. I think that is how it should be.

    • KrisXX

nobody has 1000 “friends”, its lame to add every random person u play in a game.

    • chex_mix

You are concentrating on the wrong part of his post. What we need to be highlighting is how much we want notifications and to know if our friends sign on to XBox Live and play certain games. Why they would not want to encourage playing with your friends by showing a notification is bewildering to me. They can implement this in a few different ways. They can:
      1. Allow on your favorites to have notifications. You control which of your “friends” are on your favorites so you control the amount of notifications you get.

      2. Allow you to set notifications on a friend by friend basis. When you click on a friend’s profile there is some option where you turn on notifications for that friend. These could be off by default so you don’t get overwhelmed.
      3. Allow notifications for ALL friends. This is obviously the least effective option and for those that have hundreds of “friends”, would have notifications popping up all the time.

Personally I am looking for 3D Blu-ray support. I hope someone is working to make that happen. I might be in the minority on this but in an all in one entertainment platform this is missing still.

    • ElektroDragon

Completely agree, and both consoles new next gen consoles are still missing media remotes. Insane.

      • KrisXX

And both are missing support to play other video codecs last gen consoles play! Add .mkv support too to make up for it!

    • billy middleton

3d Blu-ray is dependent on the hardware of the drive itself and the item it is put into.
the bluray drive on xbox one is a standard blue ray drive and cannot support 3d

      • Speedkiller

u r wrong xbox one will support 3d playback it was stated along time ago it will be in a updated coming soon.

just like the ps4 right now it cant support it but it will soon with a update.

      • WARLORD

Sorry but your wrong. 3D support can be added via Update.
Its been done before with the ps3, all thy did was update the firmware.

      • usrev

the ps3 got a firmware update to play 3d blu rays, so I don’t think this is entirely true.

      • KrisXX

Besides 3D BD support, I’m still waiting for mp4/avi video support! The ONE in XB1 stands for “All in one?” Yet I’m still using my PS3 for other video codecs. And would LOVE .mkv support!

  • Raul Rangel

Very disappointed on something that should have been common sense! Xbox one just rushed this out the gate.

  • ChaosTheory V2X

No Preload+Preorder, Come on Microsoft, this is ridiculous for those of us who are digital!!!

    • lagrew

Absolutely agree plus I really want the USB hard drive support

  • billy middleton

    what happened to todays update??
I have yet to get it

    • Michael Burden

Delayed until later in the week – read the Major’s feed at the right.

      • Dave Slye

Albert Penello has stated tonight check twitter someone is correct

Bring back the damn Xbox Guide. The Xbox One will FOREVER be slower than the Xbox 360 at simple, basic tasks without the Xbox Guide, or a similar equivalent.

  • Scott Anderson

I was wondering why aren’t the different buttons on the controller being utilized when on the home screen or in some of the apps. It seems like in every app you need to navigate the app with the dpad or or analog stick, then select that option using the A button. What happened to using the other buttons? Like using the Y button to open up the friends list or when in the friends list instead of having to open up a friends page to invite them to your game or party, why can’t you just hit the X button to invite the friend that you have navigated the selection box over? When you can utilize the buttons to select a commonly used function, it just speeds the process up. I really think that is something that needs to be added.

  • Ismokedthebanditwithaheadshot

Yeah! Awesome! Amazing! Features that should have been there at the start hyped as some big update..

  • beardyman3218

Will sending a game invite continue to start a party automatically? I think this should be a seperate thing, sometimes you dont want to be in a party. I also liked the fact recent players was gone, now its easier for people to send hateful messages, simply because you beat them. Also were is 3d bluray support?

    • chex_mix

So you want everyone to sacrifice the ability to easily find and add an awesome teammate/player they just finished a game with just because you don’t like the select few that send you a message after you beat them? Um, no. Recent player list back please! I have used to it way too many times and received hardly any of these messages so toughen up and let’s get that list back!

      • disqus_icUCvMAJ5v

For sure! A recent players list is a must.

    • evilfangs .

Report them, block them and get on with gaming.

  • slider2nl

Bring back the guid in en new way works better then what they are doing now

  • kvfive

    Well said dude, 100% agree.

  • Toxxity

I would still like to see a notification for friends coming online, whether it is set for all or favorites. Just because the friend tab is being placed in a more accessible spot doesn’t mean I’m going to drop back to the dashboard every 5 minutes from my game to check who is online and who isn’t. Also, something really should be done about the achievements section. For some reason the way they are now as giant slides makes me care little to nothing about unlocking them. I think they way they are currently on the Xbox 360 (scrolling through game by game then clicking on each and seeing an abundance of smaller icons representing each achievement) gives me a much more rewarding feeling. But maybe that’s just me.

    • The Watcher

I like the friend online favorite idea.

    • KrisXX

And instead of just GAMERSCORE, list the total number of achievements with it! What is the point of all the apps & game challenges that give you 0GS achievements if we can’t even view our total number with our GS!

  • Generalkidd

The friend’s list is still not good enough. I don’t want to have to back out to the dashboard and start up a separate friend’s app which apparently can’t be snapped to the side either. The best thing to do is just bring back the Xbox Guide. It makes the most sense. I like the Xbox One but I feel like Microsoft is sacrificing a lot of convenience for the sake of sticking with metro.

  • The Watcher

Pretty much all things that should have been out of the box on day one not to mention the delayed update content for battery life display and storage management. Good job!

  • usrev

question- Why not just start with the 360 system and improve from there. I think people would have been happy if it was like the 360, just with more friends at first, then updates from there. it seems MS is adding features that the 360 had for years now. it seems strange to me.

    • barackobama

I tell you why. they had a meeting with some market analyst. and he told them what “the people” want from the new console.:)

so they decided the people want what we want them to want. easy.

if they had made a survey on the 360 an asked if people want a 1080p console without kinect they probably had released one.

      • usrev

if they really wanted to get people’s opinions it should have been a survey on the 360 dashboard so a few million people could take it.

    • Axcalibur

Keep in mind, the Wii U followed that exact principle – a Wii in high def, complete with backwards compatibility for accessories and games, with everything that made the Wii successful. Unfortunately for Nintendo, gamers haven’t jumped on board. Personally, I love my Wii U, but it definitely can’t be a “stand alone” console in any gamers living room – it needs some support (right now, that’s my 360 and PS3). At any rate, MS may have followed this approach with better success, but it’s hard to say. I personally would have bought one day one if it allowed me to chuck my 360 (ie: include Backwards compatibility), but it didn’t, so now my living room is Xbone-less.

  • usrev

awe I miss blades now… other than RROD and it getting loud the 360 launch was awesome.

  • kvfive

Note to self : When next, err ‘Next Gen Console’ is released, give it a wide berth, especially if it’s manufactured by Microsoft :–)

    • ElektroDragon

Well, if MS listens to its top investors, this will be the last Xbox. :-P

      • Axcalibur

I suppose that means the next gen Xbox will be called the Xbox Zero :)

  • j dizzy.

I just want a 24 hour clock option on the main screen. Hopefully I will get it in either the February or March update.
