There’s a lot of new content jammed into this pack, including the new Gnome Bomb game mode, new Chomp Town map, dozens of new abilities and new character customization items. Best of all, the price is definitely right.

Here’s a deeper look at the Garden Variety Pack:

The Garden Variety Pack add-on for Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare will be available for FREE tomorrow, March 18th, only on Xbox Live.

Game Add-on, Xbox One By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Danny Hogan

One of the best games on xbox one at the moment glad popcap are supporting it

  • lassenwolf

Love this game and I was just telling someone I can see pop making dlc for Plants and there it is. With Titanfall and plants I won”t be playing COD anymore. I suck at Cod muliplayer anyway . Plants any one can play, have fun, help out and kill.

    • ImTheMetalLord

I agree with you that anyone can play it. I stink on COD/Battlefield and other war type games even though I still play them for some reason I can’t dominate them. PvZ Garden Warfare is completely different in that I have fun and can dominate occasionally.

  • Landsharkk

    Make split-screen go online too.

Also, why in the world does the 2nd player in split-screen mode not gain achievements/advancement/etc for their own characters? This makes absolutely ZERO sense. That lack of feature was also not mentioned in any interview/review/preview and I feel cheated considering I bought a 2nd controller and PvZ just for split-screen.

    What a waste.

    • roozbeh, again

      New generation, old problems.

  • Coseley Consoles

its great news for all of us free dlc that they could have easily charged us for and most people would have paid for it .. Wish other companies would follow suit !!

    • ImTheMetalLord

Actually I believe Rockstar started this trend with all the free dlc they been giving for GTA5. Really a nice change of pace if you ask me.

      • usrev

they didn’t start the free dlc trend. free dlc has been around for a long time and started on the original xbox and pc. it wasn’t until the 360 came out companies tried to nickel and dime customers.

        • ImTheMetalLord

Agree! Let me rephrase that then. They brought it back. There is that better?

Dude, you like to argue with me or what? lol

          • usrev

I don’t know who you are.

but they didn’t bring it back either… killzone shadow fall had a free map pack not to long ago and they already said all new maps will be free.

dust 514 on ps3 all game updates and dlc are free.

(at this point I tried to think of the 360 games with free dlc and could not think of any that were meaningful)

          • ImTheMetalLord

LOL see there you go. Let me rephrase it one more time so it may (and btw I said believe in my original post) GTA5 MAY have been the new trend leading back to free DLC’s with as many as they have gave on the Xbox 360.

And dude you have argued with me on many posts here on Major Nelson’s site. Sorry my original post wasn’t specific enough for your taste but I would hope that most would understand what I was saying without having to try to sound like they know everything.

Have a good day sir and enjoy the last word as I’m sure you will find a need to point something else wrong with this post.

          • usrev

but again, gta didn’t start any sort of trend. it wasn’t like devs went “oh gta did it now our dlc has to be free” your post makes no sense. and sorry, no idea who you are. paid DLC should be dead anyway, and I am glad gta dlc was free, but they sure as hell didn’t start it as a “trend”

          • Rafik Bouchaala

gears of war 1 on xbox 360 had free DLC first pack was free day one and it had two maps, second pack was 10usd for the first 6 months then it became free for everyone and it had 4 maps.

          • Does Not Equal

Off the top of my head: Mass Effect 3. Civilization Revolution. Sleeping Dogs.

          • lassenwolf

Dust is free as a game

      • lassenwolf

It’s true about RockStar but it started with RDR they gave away alot of dlc with Red Dead, Rockstar may not of started it but they have over the years given more dlc away on aaa games more than most

  • disqus_icUCvMAJ5v

Anybody having issues with voice chat? I got the new headset adapter, did the update to my controller hooked up my A50’s (game audio is excellent), adjusted chat balance on the adapter and my headphone and I’m having issues with voice chat. I start a party and chat with my friend but it starts up all crackly. Once we launch a game the volume of the chat dips really low and there is still static. Sometimes the issue seems to correct itself though. It’s very strange. Is anybody else having similar issues?

It would just be really nice if MS could make something that, “just works”.

3 questions, One: Is this for 360 and Xbox One, or just the 360? Two: Will they add achievements in the DLC? Three: Will this add in the option to make a lobby to host with your friends, because besides Garden Ops, I haven’t been able to play with my friends. And I guess bonus question, by loadout do they mean weapons or abilities?

    • ImTheMetalLord

Good questions. I too was wondering if it was going to be for the One or 360 or both and I’m afraid by the last line that says: “Game Add-on, Xbox One By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE’s Major Nelson” that it will only be available on the Xbox One. I guess we hope he answers this question or wait till tomorrow.

    • ImTheMetalLord

OK I found this on Examiner dot com: “PopCap Games and Electronic Arts announced Monday that Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare for theXbox One and Xbox 360 will receive its first free DLC pack this week that adds a new mode, map and garden basket full of new abilities.”

  • sbromagem

Amazing game! Glad the DLC is coming at no charge.

  • evilfangs .

    • usrev

this always happens. they have X amount of people working on the game. they get close to released and hire Y amount of people to finish the game on schedule. game comes out so Y amount of people are no longer needed and let go/contract runs out and not renewed.

  • Vanstrom

2 more questions to add from my previous, I don’t know if anyone here has more news than I do. One: Will the abilities auto unlock or will they be some high level unlock thing? Two: Does this mean challenges will change, so for example, the harrier strike (a new ability for the engineer) will be a challenge for you, though that might not be in your loadout?

  • Raul Rangel

    FREE 99? WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ɾosɥ ɥɐɐs

Great! I’ve been hopelessly addicted to this game…wish that there was a bigger gap between PvZ and Titanfall. Titanfall isn’t getting too much love from me just yet.

  • X360

Awesome game for x360 and would love to see more DLC’s in the future.

  • Ash2X

Finally a new Map…which makes the daily Choice between PvsZ and Titanfall even harder.

  • Evil.

Will there be new achievements with this DLC ?

  • Neosankyo

Just got PVZ: Garden Warfare on 360 today. Played for about 3 hours and after that I can’t connect to EA Servers anymore to play, anyone else having the same problem as mine?

    • Sonar

Servers are down due to the DLC/update.

    • Guest

servers are down due to the update – same on xbox one

    • Sonar

servers are down due to the update. – who removing my comments?

  • Sonar

Servers are down to the DLC/Update – hurry up and get it back on ;p

  • Ganon255

c’mon what’s the hold up already, the servers have been down all night and day

    • ɾosɥ ɥɐɐs

I played for about an hour and a half just now. It worked just fine.

      • Ganon255

What system, may I ask? I’m on Xbox One and have had no luck

        • ɾosɥ ɥɐɐs

Xbox One as well. I noticed on the main menu that they said they’re experiencing technical difficulties, but everything was working fine for me. Must be isolated incidents…hope it’s up for you soon.

  • Daryl Aiken

    Love this game.
