    first…

Choose your Pokemon, do you want Charmander or Squirtle?

      Bulbasaur: ‘Help.’

    • Does Not Equal

… to say something stupid and chiché.

  • ryder4life22187

Looks like the XB1 is gonna be the King of retro style games.

  • ImTheMetalLord

I’m getting exited about indie games on the Xbox One. I was afraid it wasn’t going to be this good but it looks amazing. I’m strong supporter of Indie games and have purchased over 50 titles on the 360 Indie channel. Good job guys….look forward to them.

  • ungeheier

I really hope that PRICE is looked at with these titles. I have a feeling that there’s going to be a choke point where people arent going to ‘try’ these games because they cost too much. Ive purchased over 260 XBLA games on the 360, and the price of those games has risen throughout the years. It’s to the point where I stopped taking a chance on a game and just blindly purchasing them and trying out the demo first. Then, after playing the demo, i end up thinking ‘is this worth $20?’. I hope that these developers are making their games at the price point where people dont have that internal dialog and just purchase the game.

See Steam sales. Ive purchased a bunch of games on Steam because they were sub $5. There’s only a few games on the ID@Xbox program where I would consider paying more than $10 for the game. I’d love to own them all and support the developers, but I wont if the price is too high.

Wow that’s a lot of xbla games! I feel like I’ve missed out this past gen because I really didn’t buy barely any arcade games and I wouldn’t even touch the indie section.. but something happened since I got my Xbox One.. I’ve been playing more and more of them and am starting to see just how awesome they can be. I loved max the curse of brotherhood. I think that game is so underrated it was great.

      • evilfangs .

I never touched the indie section too. To me it was just little kids in their bedroom making horrible games.

Already got and played three arcade games on my X1, although I still need to complete Strider.

        • Some guy

Give a try at ZP2KX, it’s 1 buck but it’s great. 2D side shooter with bots, lots of maps, weapons, unlocks and modifiers.
But that’s probably the only game that offer this much for that price.

  • mj

Just turned on One and it said I had an update, some 40 mb or so. Was playing it yesterday so its something new, anyone know what it might be?

    • ungeheier

Are you a part of the Preview? If so, you shouldve had a message regarding the 1404 update. I think Major’s posted about it on his blog.

      • evilfangs .

Yea it’s for the April update. Funny thing is my X1 was unplugged last night ( was charging phone ) and when I plugged it in just now it asked me to update, so maybe the need to have instant on to get the updates has been fixed?

        • Professor Oak

You have to unplug your xbox one to charge your phone? I thought Pikachu’s were all the rage with kids these days. lol

          • evilfangs .

I only got two plug sockets in my room and one of them already has a 12 extension on it and putting my phone charger into it would go over the recommend amp. So yea I use my second socket that I use for my X1 to charge my phone.

          • mj

Time to upgrade to a phone that uses a USB cable my man

          • evilfangs .

Yea it clearly does use USB to charge but where do you think it gets said charge from? Power doesn’t just come out of thin air.

          • sak hus

If you’re writing these msgs from your computer or notebook chances are there will be USB ports which you can hook your phone through for charging. Any chance this update will include external drive support/media playback/3D support as i’m getting my 64″ 3D plasma in few days and wanted to hook up the XB1 on that rather than my 50″ non 3D plasma.

      • mj

I was apart of the March preview but didn’t think it extended over to this one as well, or I thought I would get a XBL message or something informing me that I would be included. No complaints, always enjoy doing previews, did a few on the 360 as well (one where I got a free copy of Halo Reach?). But yeah, its the preview for april, saw the audio mixer feature.

  • Mr&Mrs Ninja

That retro 2d game and the space game look awesome! Hope the indie games start from $3-$15 with $15 being the max. Would love to see a few avatar games on X1 since my avatar hides behind the UI. I miss seeing the lil guy!

    • Senses Failed

Haha indie by name, not by price. This is MS remember!?

      • CoMaestro

Doesn’t self-publishing also mean that they can set their own prices?

        • Some guy

Yep and boy do they set their prices.
Pre alpha release of game coming out in 7 years: 30$
Idea of a game that might come out sometime by unknown guy: 25$
Indie game that last 10 minutes: 20$
Indie game that took 2 months to build from scratch and is just a bad rip off of something way better: 15$
Yet somehow it’s still a better deal then most non indie games.

  • beardyman3218

FRU looks great, a level within a level using kinect in a way it hasnt been used before, this indie program is already showing why indie games should be alongside AAA titles in the games store. Well done with this program MS it is showing promise already.

  • EldritchWarlord

    Should have called it “InD@Xbox”

    • CoMaestro

That would have made a lot of sense, so good idea, +1

  • Socal71

Enough already with the 8 bit rip-off games … that’s what the 80′s were for… unless you are only going to charge .99 for the game and not $20.00.

The space game looks awesome though. Kudos to those guys for not selling out on a trend.

    • EldritchWarlord

The retro graphics trend is only popular because it allows small developers to not spend so much of their limited resources on graphics. Though I agree that $20 is too high a price for the typical indie game ($15 is reasonable).
Also these graphics are more typical of early ’90s video games, not ’80s.

      • Socal71

You have your causes and effects backwards.

The 8 bit/retro gaming trend is popular because it’s reminiscent of a style of gaming the most of us grew up with. Developers are only “exploiting” that fact, not defining it. Resources have nothing to do with the popularity of trend. It’s that simple. Also 8 bit games were the 80′s 16 bit was the 90′s …

$15 is still too much games like this… the only reason they charge that money is because people are stupid enough (on consoles) to pay it. Mobile users don’t and why that market sells more content than either console.

        • Some guy

Back in the day, devs tried their hardest to push the limits.
Street fighter, Metal Slug and others were incredible.
And now indies try their hardest to be lazy and the results always look terrible. 8 bits and 16 bits looks nothing like modern indie games, actually they use 8 bit as pixel size. Pretty sure they could make 8 bit in HD.

        • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

I don’t see how it makes people stupid because they will pay said price for indie games.. value is relative to the person. If someone enjoys those types of games and get hours of fun out of them then I would say that the person got their money’s worth. Of course it would be better to get it on sale.. just like every other product on the planet but in the grand scheme of things, 15 dollars is not a lot of money for something people enjoy.

  • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Wow is it just me or does strike suit zero look friggin awesome. Damn I’m pumped for that one. I’m not sure how I feel about the fact that all games on xbox one will now have 1000 gamerscore. I feel like gamerscore is something that is supposed to be hard to attain high numbers and if you’re going to be able to start getting a grand each little 2-3 hour game it might stop losing its meaning for me.. I dunno maybe not, I just love the whole achievements system. I think it was the single most genius thing xbox did last generation.. it really changed the whole way games were played by a large number of people. I admit sometimes for the worst(people playing terrible games just because it has an easy 1000 points) but all in all I love it.. it’s weird though I’ve never really been interested in trophy hunting on my playstation though. Im playing infamous second son right now and it’s actually kinda fun just playing the game and not worrying about achievements lol

    • Some guy

Just get Project Sylpheed on 360, it’s not HD with high graphix but it probably have more content(story is japan quality so it’s just terrible)

      • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Play that as opposed to what exactly? Sorry you just weren’t very specific about what you mean..

        • Some guy

As opposed to Strike Suit Zero.

  • disqus_icUCvMAJ5v

I couldn’t care less about indy games. I grew up in the 80′s and I’ve played a ton of amazing 2D games. For the most part I don’t really see how these are any better and in many cases they’re just not as good as those experiences I’ve already had. Been there and done that! Seems to me it’s more the gaming press pushing the whole indy angle.

I’m just not all that interested in playing some budding game designers, “school project”. And I certainly haven’t seen an indy game good enough to justifies listening to whining jerks like Fish or Blow.

    • Does Not Equal

In that case, I recommend not supporting them.

      • BigBernard

        That’s lovely.

I get that you’re not interested in indie games, but there is definitely a big audience for games like this. Not only that, it’s important to support indie studios these days as it’s where a lot of the innovation is coming from since they don’t have shareholders counting on millions of dollars in revenue. They’re free to create as they see fit. Lastly it’s important to have a true diverse selection of games on any platform. Having all one type of game or just the AAA blockbusters is not a healthy ecosystem for a platform.

      • disqus_icUCvMAJ5v

I’m not saying there isn’t an audience for it, anybody who wishes to enjoy should feel free to have at it. Although this innovation you speak of is something I find elusive when looking at indy games. Just not sure if I’m seeing all that many instances it. Like I said before, I’m looking at most of these and thinking that those types of games have just been done before by professionals years before and usually done better.

I’m just saying I don’t think it’s all that it’s being cracked up to be.

    • Socal71

I agree. I miss the old days when video game developers made “updated versions” of great games each time a console game out. Sony’s did it with Twisted Metal, Wipeout etc… and Microsoft did it with Halo. It’s the reason we spend a lot of money for a new more powerful console… Better looking and playing games.

Games like these are better served on a touchpad tablets/phones anyway… something kinect will never be able to emulate to precision.

Nintendo at least knows how to do this right. The last 2 mario games are throwbacks to the 8 and 16bit era with much better graphics and gameplay.

To make a game for that PS4 and XB1 that looks like it belongs on a 30 year old device is just lazy…

      • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

You literally have no idea what you’re talking about. Did you actually call it lazy? These games are made by indie developers with very small teams, sometimes as small as one person. They work extremely hard on them and there is a huge fan base for games like this. It doesn’t affect the AAA blockbuster game market in any way shape or form.. it’s just for a little thing called diversity. It’s good for a platform to have all types of games. I, for one am very glad that every single game coming to xbox one isn’t a giant first person shooter that costs hundreds of millions of dollars to make. It’s great seeing these throwback games being made for the millions of people who enjoy retro gaming. Just because your taste in games only amounts to one type of game doesn’t mean the rest of the community isn’t excited for things like this.

    • Dylan

You have no idea what indie means. It doesn’t mean 16 bit or 2D. Games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, The Forest, and Papers Please are indie games. There are so many different types of games under that term, and you just categorized them into one idea. Lame.

Not to mention you’d be missing out on a bunch of awesome games too, like the ones I mentioned or the addictive FTL. One of the best games I’ve ever played.

  • digitallife

Ummm this was supposed to get us excited? I hope the rest of the games are better than this because honestly….if we wanted to play NES we’d play NES. I’m all for retro styled gaming just not on my $500 “next gen” console

  • Lucky13X

I really want to play that game that has the other hidden behind the player’s silouette by using Kinect. Neat.

  • Paul Cedfeldt

I want Fru and IDARB!! Looking good. Very excited for these.
