Xbox One will launch in China this September

Today in Shanghai, Microsoft announced that, in partnership with BesTV, Xbox One will launch in China this September.  In addition to being a monumental day for Xbox, this is a major step in the partnership between BesTV and Microsoft following the formation of their joint venture, E-Home Entertainment, in September 2013 during the Shanghai Free Trade Zone expansion.

  • Sean Mccoy

when’s the next beta mr nelson

  • MasonG1994

couple questions, will xboxone be region free in china as well?is there any chinese games going to be announced?

    • ElektroDragon

      There is no chinese games.

      • GmailIsDown

        because all chinese understand english?

        • ElektroDragon

Clearly you didn’t understand my biting sarcasm, as I never use poor grammar.

          • GmailIsDown

Clearly you didn’t get my sarcasm either, as I always use poor grammar

    • Professor Oak

I think China will get Xbox one in September.

      • Does Not Equal

That is the title of the article…

        • Professor Oak

No $H!7 Sherlock, I was seeing if he was paying attention.

  • digitallife

They too can then enjoy the like 12 total games for the console…

    • GmailIsDown

as opposed to like 3 total games on PS4 (yes I have all 3 – Killzone SF, Knack, and Infamous Second Son), and the rest are indie games like the ones you can play on your phone

      • digitallife

I hear you, but please show me where I was comparing it to the ps4 instead of venting my frustration at the lack of big name releases…

        • https://www.youtube.com/ButtonBros TheRedButterfly

Isn’t that why you’re here? Bitching on Nelson’s blog? Because you don’t have any games to play?

          • digitallife

Please show me the rules and guidelines that I can’t voice my displeasure about something I paid for and still continue to pay for…..oh that’s right. It’s called a comment section for…drum roll please…comments of any kind so long as they don’t disrespect any individual or contain profanity. Yet sit there and assume away…

          • Stephen Perry

And you willingly bought the product most likely knowing that it takes at least a full year to start getting a decent selection of games on a new console. You act as if Microsoft is able to force developers and publishers to release games based on Microsoft’s schedule, not the publisher’s schedule.

          • digitallife

Oh really…considering MS has been publicly scolded for trying to force devs to publish either exclusively or on their console first..This isn’t 2004, it isn’t 2006, it’s 2014. There gaming world has a hell of a lot more creators in this era than at any other console launch history…It’s also not like MS woke up one morning and just introduced a console. They knew it was coming, so did the devs. It’s ok people are entitled to their opinions and I respect yours even if I don’t agree with the way you look at things….the irony is i’ve got a ton of people trying to rob me of having my own opinion on the subject matter.

          • Stephen Perry

A lot of people don’t agree with the way I look things because it isn’t convenient for them to accept common sense. Again, it isn’t Microsoft’s fault that anything that isn’t run by Microsoft Studios hasn’t published a larger array of “big name releases” that cost millions of dollars per production. Financial restrictions (well, more budgetary than anything) of each major developer and or publisher prevented gaining access to any and all necessary resources since dealing at the “big name” level involves spending tons of money upfront based on all sorts of analysis in the hopes of turning a profit and engineering a financial exit strategy if things go wrong on release.

          • digitallife

“Alot of people don’t agree with the way I look at things because it isn’t convenient for them to accept common sense”

Perhaps the issue isn’t them, perhaps you are a little opinionated when it comes to how other people see things. Just some food for thought. Financial restrictions…you mean the billions upon billions microsoft threw at this console and couldn’t spare a few hundred million for publishers? Or perhaps the real issue here is they rush the console and the software wasn’t up to snuff…which is a fact, admitted by the company itself. Either way man, as I said I don’t have to agree with your opinion to respect it. Perhaps you should learn to respect the rights of others to have their opinion. Let’s not sit here and act like we aren’t getting a bunch of game reveals at e3 only for the sole purpose of the free publicity those games will get…not because they are delayed, not because they aren’t ready but simply because they botched e3 so badly last year they need to make up for it this year. Let’s also stop pretending microsoft doesn’t have it’s own game studios which should’ve been prominent in the lineup at launch. This is the equivalent of launching the bluray player with 3 movies.

          • Bush

and Microsoft Studios has some of the best ip’s under their belt too. it is a shame they havent used them since the original Xbox or the last few years on the 360.

          • digitallife

Thank you, now you aren’t a defensive moron like the people here who feel there should be no critique of ms ever…thank you for saying the thing about IP’s…because people seem to forget MS has several of it’s own studios.

          • Stephen Perry

…and most of those first party studios launched games on the Xbox One 6 months ago or are still working on upcoming launches.

          • digitallife

Did I ask you? Seriously…I guess ten back and forths weren’t enough…jeez my friend get a life..this is a day old now.

          • Stephen Perry

No, but since I check on this at night and you responded to someone else saying that Microsoft more or less has done nothing with their own studios, I figured I’d restate the fact that developers under Microsoft Studios’ umbrella have launched multiple games that you so desperately want to play but can’t find.

          • digitallife

Ok if you say so…good day to you sir…

          • Stephen Perry

“Financial restrictions…you mean the billions upon billions microsoft threw at this console and couldn’t spare a few hundred million for publishers?” Microsoft doesn’t control the financial situation of third party publishers; they have no influence over who develops for their consoles unless it’s under Microsoft Studios.

“Or perhaps the real issue here is they rush the console and the software wasn’t up to snuff…which is a fact, admitted by the company itself.” That has nothing to do with this actually.

“Let’s also stop pretending microsoft doesn’t have it’s own game studios which should’ve been prominent in the lineup at launch.” I’m not saying Microsoft doesn’t have its own studios. I’m saying that budgetary concerns prevent publishers and developers from throwing hundreds of millions into games all at one time. As a far as games that Microsoft Studios did launch, I’d say Forza, Ryse, and Deadrising are all pretty impressive coming from one publisher at launch; this is of course ignoring the fact that other AAA titles launched on the console as well with EA launching 8 games within 6 months of the console being on the shelves.

“Perhaps you should learn to respect the rights of others to have their opinion.” I do respect the opinions of others when they’re not stupid and overlook a few related variables. If we saw the same E3 last year, I think we both saw that several games weren’t coming out for either console until later this year and starting into 2015, which reinforces my point that you bought a console knowing that there wasn’t going to be a massive library of games at launch. The games are there; if you can’t find something you want to play and start complaining then hat’s your own fault, not Microsoft’s.

          • digitallife

So now i’m stupid for voicing my opinion, yeah….good to know…good to know…but i’m the stupid one? Ok…

          • Stephen Perry

You voiced your opinion, and I merely posted something that you apparently overlooked. You can voice an opinion all you want, but since you forgot a few facts when forming your opinion on your original point, it’s a stupid opinion.

          • digitallife

Blabbing away doesn’t make your “facts” truths..they were dismantled pretty well but it’s ok..it’s a day later everyone has moved on..so should you.

          • Stephen Perry

Well, except that fact that studios are limited by budgetary concerns isn’t “blabbing away.” And you still feel the need to comment, so obviously not everyone has moved on.

          • digitallife

Ok, buddy but if you finally stfu i’d stop receiving notices…clearly everyooooonnnnneeee else has moved the fk on.

          • Stephen Perry

Should I refer you to a comment you made 12 hours ago on this same post from a day ago?

          • digitallife

12 hours ago…half a day…I mean seriously what part of stop sending me alerts over replies do you not get..do you need an explanation of what that entails. Not sure how many more ways I can say everyone else has moved on….let it go. Please.

          • Stephen Perry

You can disable alerts quite easily. This is starting to get fun now.

          • digitallife

Of course it is, because no life having b*tches spend their time trolling the web. Good luck with that..you and the idiot with the anime picture literally spend every waking moment of your pathetic f’ing lives trying to feel important Glad to know you’ve finally publicly admitted it…now fk off. Loser motherf**kers always go online trying to be important..nobody asked you for an opinion, nobody gives a shhh about your incorrect opinion at that…fkkkkkk off.

          • digitallife

Here comes more blab blab blab…

          • Stephen Perry

Yep, you’re right, because this is fun now with how agitated you now seem. And I actually have school during the day most of the time, work afterwards, and get home at night for just a few hours of free time where I come online and watch comment sections for amusing things like this particular comment thread from you. My opinion isn’t incorrect at all since my opinion is based on business logic instead of personal self-entitlement.

          • digitallife

            Agitated lmao..business logical lmao….

          • Stephen Perry

Yes, business logic, because money and financial forecasting based on current resources is what determines how many games get developed.

          • digitallife

I’m sure you learned all of that at community college and fed-ex…

          • Stephen Perry

I’d take that over apparently zero knowledge about the business side of the gaming industry that you seem to fail to comprehend.

          • digitallife

Three little letters my moronic friend N.Y.U…peaceeeeeeeeee.
Oh and good luck with the music care (that part I mean seriously)

          • Stephen Perry

Whatever will help you sleep tonight. Whatever you’ve attempted to discredit hasn’t worked at all though.

          • digitallife

Funny enough you are nothing but a younger version of me now that I look at your page so i’m just going to end this war of words out of respect for that. When I said good luck with your music career I genuinely meant it. It’s how I made the life I have for myself today so I know what you are about to go up against. All arguing aside, i’m man enough to respect that mission and vision. Good luck.

          • Stephen Perry

Now that this is off-topic, I’ll stop since I don’t care much to discuss my music hobby with people. In the future, if you don’t want people to “troll” you, maybe you shouldn’t say things that bait people into blasting whatever you have to say out of the water.

          • digitallife

Never asked you to but you were very welcome to ask questions since you are just venturing that hobby into a hopeful career with the opportunity to get some tips from someone who successfully has done it but it’s cool. I tried a moment at civility and i’ll leave it at that. I didn’t bait you, didn’t even seek you out just to be clear, quite the opposite can be said either way neither one of us is going to see eye to eye on that so again, best of luck.

          • Stephen Perry

I wouldn’t have asked you for anything anyway since I have no idea who you are and I have my own contacts for whatever it is I feel like pursuing with people who would dump money into any entrepreneurial venture I decide to do. You tried at civility after being uncivil towards someone who only mentioned something about financial situations when it comes to game development. You decided to take that as someone disrespecting the opinions of others. In any case, that’s fine if you want to stop. I’ll just wait until I see a dumb comment from your account again.

          • digitallife

Ok well then since it’s like that good to know….lol

          • Stephen Perry

Way to take your profile private like a coward who’s previous commenting history has been more or less troll posts.

          • digitallife

Says the arlington texan “i get money thrown at me for any venture I want but I work at fed-ex”…lmaoooooooooooo

          • digitallife

            ROTFLLLLLLLLLMAOOOOOO WOW…Epic son..epic.

          • digitallife

You win buddy you win lol….good night.

          • Stephen Perry

And again with the ad hominem to further prove that you’re nothing more than a troll, especially given the screen grabs of your comment history I got before you took your profile private. I’m biding my time as far as entrepreneurial ventures is concerned due to other factors not related to my ability to obtain the necessary capital for any one of my multiple business plans.

          • digitallife

Whoopidoo for you buddy…screen grab all you’d like. Need some help with that? Thanks for the explanation as to why you are where you are….good to know. Thanks for the laugh..

          • Stephen Perry

I’m only this kind of person when people with your type of online personality exist.

          • digitallife

Whatever helps you sleep at night lol

          • Stephen Perry

I don’t need help when I know that I’m right to begin with. Why you continue to feel the need to respond is beyond me. How about going to respond to the others who have challenged you the exact same way I have? There’s at least a couple more from what I see.

          • digitallife

Blab blab blab…i’m truly blessed to have you waste sooo much of your life on me. Thanks.

          • Stephen Perry

An hour at night isn’t a waste when I’m sitting here laughing at how stupid one person can really be online.

          • digitallife

            Good night peaches

          • Stephen Perry

            Same to you princess.

          • Stephen Perry

Way to take your profile private so others can’t see the stupidity you’ve posted in the past.

          • Thee Gooch

That is an amazing good point. If I remember correctly, we are on Major Nelson’s blog commenting on the significance of the release of XBO in China. The question was, ‘Does the XBO have a good enough game catalog to compel the Chinese to buy it?’

While there are other reasons, such as to be prepared for new games, to have the same console as their friends , new console for new console’s sake, someone else is paying for it so why not buy it, and more!

Game catalog, I ‘m not a good person to comment on this as I tend to save money by buying used/last gen games and consoles and wait for the new console prices to drop and platform to mature( read fewer software/hardware bugs ) before I shell out any cash.

That said, I have the impression that XBO has a better game selection that the Playstation 4 currently has. Will it always be that way? Who knows. Game preferences are highly subjective and what I think is great, someone else will throw in the trash.

Looking at the popular opinion, the PS4 won the price war, but lags in titles. I think it’s ahead in Worldwide sales…I think.

None of that should really matter to you. The value of a console is exactly what value/enjoyment it provides to you. No more, no less.

Base your buying decision on that. :)

          • Stephen Perry

“The question was, ‘Does the XBO have a good enough game catalog to compel the Chinese to buy it?’” In my opinion, probably not at the moment. However, we’ll have to see what happens at E3. And thank you for being a sensible person.

      • ElektroDragon

You’re being a complete fool saying PS4 has 3 total games.

        • GmailIsDown

You name other games worth playing then? I bought a ps4 at day one. Was lucky to get a unit without any hardware problem. Besides those 3 games there is nothing else to play. I play multiplatform games on Xbox one, and play smartphone games on a smartphone instead of on ps4.

killzone and knack are all mediocre games anyway. Infamous is good, but I feel like a sucker buying ps4 just for infamous, even though my ps4 does not have all the crashes and save data corruption problems others are having.

          • Bush

outlast is one..i have a ps4 gathering dust. got Infamous but it is boring. havent got an X1 because it would bore me too and it costs more. both consoles have nothing at all going at the moment. one of the worst next gen launches for games on both platforms. at least before we could play old games on new systems.

      • WARLORD

You must mean exclusives AAA games lol. Sony has all the AAA 3rd part games Microsoft has and at a better res and fps witch is why a lot of people are going to PS4, lower coast with better graphics. Sony all so has exclusives content rights with ubisoft for games like Watch dogs, and Assassins creed and Bungie exclusive for Destiny. Microsoft needs to step up it game.

        • GmailIsDown

A lot of people are going for ps4 because it was $100 cheaper. Watch dogs, etc. are all multiplatform. By “exclusive content rights” do you just mean the ps4 specific preorder bonus?

Xbox one has way more meaningful exclusives than ps4. Almost all exclusives on ps4 at this point are smartphone like games.

          • WARLORD

The PS4 and PS3 versions of the Watch Dogs will include four exclusive missions, which have Aiden working with hacker group DedSec. Needing his help, Aiden will take on the security network of Umeni Technologies. These missions should take about 60 minutes, according to Ubisoft. Not a preorder bonus…

“Xbox one has way more meaningful exclusives” Like what?? Tianfall?? Not so exclusive when is can be played on last gen and PC… The rest of the exclusive are not any better then PS4 exclusive, mediocre at best..

    • Does Not Equal

Because launch consoles always have a massive library within the first six months.

      • Mr&Mrs Ninja

        Mr Ninja: Can’t please everyone

      • digitallife

Let’s see what exactly is your troll @ss using as an example? Two previous launch consoles for ms…well please take a minute to check how many big named publishers were around for both and then tell me how many times multiplied that is now? Oh wait that’s right…the industry being bigger than ever and we still get the same amount of games…but that’s our fault not the makers right?

        • Does Not Equal

I’m using pretty much every console that released from the current generation back. As for big-name publishers, numbers don’t matter if they’re not getting the games out in time.

Your tone implies you have more of a problem with the person than the post, here. If you were trying to hide it, you didn’t succeed.

    • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

The Xbox One has the best games on next gen consoles as of right now.

      • Michael Košut

Amen to that ItsJoeMama :) you spilled true tea.

        • WARLORD

All i can say is LOL…

      • Shakeslikecrazy

Yes, but will that be enough for the Chinese to care and buy it for $500 and all the other additional costs? It’s another Billion+ potential customers, but they won’t touch the damn thing unless it gives a lot of free stuff in return. See the problem there?

        • Ryan Tinney

Xbox One Games with Gold program starts this year.

        • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

I think so. Microsoft probably has something planned for them. Like free bundled games or something. Kinect Sports Rivals bundled in would make sense.
Also.. You gotta think of it this way; What other home consoles will they buy over there? They wont buy the Wii U, they wont buy the PS4. Why? It’s simple.. they don’t like the Japanese. It’s a shame, but it’s true.

      • WARLORD

“Xbox One has the best games on next gen consoles” Only non mediocre game is Tianfall., and it’s not so exclusive when it can be played on last
gen and PC… The rest of the exclusive are not any better then PS4
exclusive, mediocre at best.. At this point Nether Xbox one or PS4 has that kill games to warrant the need to spend $400-$500 on next gen yet.

        • Alex Melendez

Pvz garden warfare is fun and its most likely going to be allowed in china.

        • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

That’s why I said NEXT GEN CONSOLES. PC is PC. Last gen is last gen.
Dead Rising 3, Titanfall, Forza, Killer Instinct, Plants vs Zombies, Project Spark > Killzone, Infamous, Resogun, Knack.

  • https://www.youtube.com/ButtonBros TheRedButterfly

Great news! This is a great day for the great nation in the East! Can’t wait for them to get their hands on the console and its software! :D

  • Death Dealer

You know what China likes, MS? Cheap stuff with good value as the vast majority of the population isn’t very wealthy. Now the Chinese will buy something a little expensive if it has the value and allows them to do more than what’s specified on the box, but with the higher price already being a problem for you in the rest of the world, how do you think you’re going to fare there?
It would be a great time to allow the common man to convert their Xbox One into a devkit come september wouldn’t it MS, maybe with a subscription as you did on the Xbox 360? Let the Chinese dump all their emulation programs in a sandboxed XNA type environment and you could be very big in China, otherwise I don’t see much going happen there or you.

    • Shakeslikecrazy

Exactly, this will not succeed unless MS changes their entire attitude about the openness of the platform. They’d have a much bigger success launching the Xbox 360.

  • Mr&Mrs Ninja

Yo! @majornelson where the demos at?!

    • Does Not Equal

The system’s not even out in China… how could they already have demos?

best of luck for ms in china

  • Michael Košut

I believe in you Microsoft. I wish you good luck, you deserve to be on top, because you are doing something more and trying new things and I am all here for that. Xbox is not just a gaming machine and as a gamer I want games of course, but I am also a fan of TV shows, movies and music. Good luck in China and also in my country this September! (Yeah I couldn’t wait and I have One since November, delivered from UK).

    • Ismokedthebanditwithaheadshot

Microsoft deserve to be on top, because they are trying trying something different? Sorry I can’t agree with that at all. They’ll deserve to be on top because the sales have said so, and so far Sony are “winning” that one for lack of a better word.

  • roozbeh, again

Good luck, although with the Chinese putting strict regulations in place, I think all the consoles will tank.

Except the Wii U that is…

    • Shakeslikecrazy

MS should just officially release the Xbox 360 4GB there for the right price and remove restrictions on hard drive and external memory size. The Chinese can pirate all they want on that console and could help MS shift massive amounts of units there, even if they get banned from Xbox Live over and over again. I’m sure Microsoft will underestimate again and launch the Xbox One in China with not much to appeal to the Chinese people, thinking they’ll go USA, USA, USA and just buy it because it’s Xbox. I hope I’m wrong here, but I don’t think this will be a success if MS sticks to its previous ways.

  • evilfangs .

What kind of games will China get to play? Have you seen what they will be banning. It’s basically every game the Xbox one has to offer.

    • Mr&Mrs Ninja

Mr. Ninja: They might just edit the games. My imported Dead Rising games took out the dismemberment.

      • evilfangs .

        It’s still a violent game.

        These are China’s censorship rules:

        Gambling-related content or game features

        Anything that violates China’s constitution

Anything that threatens China’s national unity, sovereignty, or territorial integrity.

Anything that harms the nation’s reputation, security, or interests.

Anything that instigates racial/ethnic hatred, or harms ethnic traditions and cultures.

Anything that violates China’s policy on religion by promoting cults or superstitions.

Anything that promotes or incites obscenity, drug use, violence, or gambling.

Anything that harms public ethics or China’s culture and traditions.

Anything that insults, slanders, or violates the rights of others.
Other content that violates the law

        • WARLORD

So I guess the only game they can play at launch is kinect sports…

        • Mr&Mrs Ninja

OUCH! I thought Australia was strict! Guess they won’t be ANY military games like Battlefield 4, etc. So let me see… they can play child of light

  • Thee Gooch
