New Course and Free Trial Mode for Powerstar Golf

Powerstar Golf has just received a major update – next time owners of the full game launch the title, they’ll receive access to a new course: Coyote Canyon, complete with new Achievements.

For those of you who haven’t tried Powerstar Golf on Xbox One, you can now sample it through a new Free Trial mode. Similar to how the Free Trial version of Killer Instinct on Xbox One works, you can download Powerstar Golf for free with access to a series of free events. From there, you can purchase more courses, golfers, and caddies- or the entire package.

Xbox Games Store, Xbox One By Jeff Rubenstein

  • That Guy

I’m just gonna say it. WHAT THE F**K HAPPENED TO DEMOS FOR XBOX ARCADE GAMES BEING A STANDARD THING? The 360 version’s of games that are on Xbox One get trials but the Xbox One version’s get nothing. What is the damn excuse? Why do I need to go to my 360 to play a trial of Child of Light when its also available on Xbox One?!? Why did they release the Xbox One when it is so sub-par?

    • Michael Burden

      C’mon, don’t be “That Guy”!

      • That Guy

I made this account only to be “That Guy”. I’m gonna be that guy right now.

    • Jeff Randall

I’m with you on this. I’ve been pretty disappointed with the One. I was really hoping that they would at least support Windows Media Center but even that didn’t happen. :( Like a lot of large corporations, the team that built the 360 is probably long gone. And the team and management that built the One probably designed it from scratch and didn’t bother asking anyone what was standard on the 360. Really sad, I hope they can turn this around.

      • NarcoSleepy

Yeah, even Windows doesn’t really support Media Center anymore. It technically works, but it hasn’t been updated in years, and I don’t believe they will be supporting it, going forward. Why would they add it to XBox One, given all the other stuff that is still missing?

        • Jeff Randall

I bought five Xbox 360’s just because it had WMC support. If you read the Xbox forums, you would see that many other people have done the same. Having the extender makes it easy to view TV and recordings from any TV in your house. I agree there are many other things missing and I am disappointed with that as well. Hopefully Microsoft will realize their mistakes and will continue to improve the One. If not, this will be my last.

          • Jacob Rael

There are plenty of other ways to stream content besides windows media center, if you are too stupid to figure them out, thats your own fault.

          • Jeff Randall

Wow, really? FYI, I don’t use WMC to stream content. Maybe you should do a little research and find out what WMC actually does, instead of insulting people.

      • Nick Peck

You still use WMC? Didn’t know it was still alive lol :(

        • Jeff Randall

Yes, and so do a lot of others. It is the top requested suggestion at xboxvideo (dot) uservoice (dot) com (with 8800+ votes) and WMC is available for Windows 8.1 and earlier versions of Windows. I have 4 cable card TV tuners that record all of my favorite shows. If you utilize cable TV, WMC is the best way to go as there is no monthly/yearly fee for TV listings.

      • SDMF

Tell me about it. I’ll be on my fifth One next week.

        • Mr&Mrs Ninja

You have REALLY bad luck. I feel your pain.

    • Mike

I agree, I have purchased around 130 arcade games and over 200 full xbox 360 games which cover games on demand and retail. Why did I buy each game? because I played a demo first. How many games do I have on the xbox one? 4 because of the lack of demos, I can only buy those I believe I will like based on my experience with the series on 360 for example, Battlefield, Forza, Trials and Fifa. I see my game collection on the Xbox One to be much smaller probably only a quarter of my 360 collection for the next 10 years without demos.

      • That Guy

Wanna know how many games I have? One, because I got to play it before I bought it. I mean I want to buy games like Strike Suit Zero but I can’t try it so how can I tell if I’ll like it?

    • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

Pretty sure Sony is doing the same thing. Just saying.

      • usrev

sony never had demos for every title..

they have a demo for child of light though…

    • Death Dealer

What happened? MS decided to remove the integrated trial requirement as it is no longer Xbox Live “Arcade”. It’s just games and like on the Xbox 360 that requires separate cert (it’s always about money) for demos. It is ridiculous, especially when there’s a build with a demo integrated on one of their own other platforms.

  • ElektroDragon

Awesome!! Love this game, best launch title along with Ryse.

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

is it good? i bought it and still haven’t played it more than 10 min. i got pissed when i realized i couldn’t use my kinect or maybe i just didn’t look in the options hard enough.

      • ElektroDragon

It’s great! No Kinect support, but who cares? Kinect is a crappy way to play golf.

  • NarcoSleepy

I guess that this game did not sell very well? I think it looks pretty fun and was planning on picking it up later this summer during the lull.

  • bakedraggyroo

love this game but still wish for true online multiplayer.

  • Todd Wegman

I actually like this game- this was a day one purchase for me… I was hoping for an update that would have a kinect mode to play golf, but since the Xbox 180 no longer comes with a Kinect there will be little to no support for the Kinect.

    • Jacob Rael

Oh wow xbox 180, you are so original, stfu.

  • SDMF

Query, Major Nelson (or anyone else that is curious). My fourth Xbox One has failed since launch. What’s up with that and why has Microsoft not done anything about failure other than providing a replacement? I think that having four Ones fail in six months is rather sad.

    • http://www.youtube.com/SabzilaTV SabzilaTV

4 ones in 6 months? maybe its the users fault.

      • SDMF

Gee, yet my 360S has never failed, nor did my Xbox, Gamecube, Dreamcast, Saturn, Wii, 64, Genesis, or NES.

        • Liquidfx Xboxdude

no super nes or gameboy? i dislike you. jk i never liked you.

          • Death Dealer

Looking at his Facebook, he does have those systems under his TV.

          • SDMF

Correct again, Death. If you count handhelds, I’ve had a Game Boy, Game Gear, GBA, DS, and PSP.

        • Corey Wisla

That is an unusually high failure rate, so I would suspect something environmental. The consoles don’t have a high enough failure rate for you to be that unlucky.

If it power related, make sure they replace the power brick as well. Older systems may not be as sensitive to certain things, so get one of those electric plug checkers from home depot that show you the receptacle you are connecting to is wired and grounded properly. Everytime I move, I go through my whole house to make sure every plug is three green lights on my tester and you would be amazed at how many aren’t done properly. Maybe try the console for a while in a different area of the house.

          • SDMF

I always get a new brick when the console is replaced. The tester is an interesting idea, but that plug also houses the 360 and it never gives me problems.

          • Corey Wisla

This is why I mentioned that older devices may not be as sensitive to certain things, because you mentioned your other consoles already.

XB1 and 360 are not the same device and may react differently to something that is happening in your house. It doesn’t have to kill every electronic for there to be an issue. If I lost 4 xb1’s in that time frame, I would testing that plug and buying an Uninterrupted Power Supply even if the plug tested fine..

          • SDMF

I am in the states. There isn’t a Costco within an hour of where I live, but I trust any home good store (Home Depot, Lowe’s) will carry them.

          • Corey Wisla

The tester I am talking about should set you back about 10 bucks (I got mine free at a home show). I find Costco has reasonably priced UPS’s. In Canada they are around 60 bucks, so probably a little cheaper assuming you are in the US.

    • roozbeh, again

Is SDMF short for Sony Defense Mobile Force?

Account created 5 hours ago? Come on now, I’ve seen better from the SDF.

      • Death Dealer

Man, Sonytard desperation just sank to a new low. It’s unbelievable how pathetic their lives must be to have to go to a competitor’s site and compulsively defend their own mistakes.
Then it’s even funnier that the Facebook account linked to it Timothy.Mayfield.77 has degrees in psychology.
Something went terribly wrong there somewhere down the line and the psychopathology got to him I’m afraid.

        • SDMF

You would be right on the second count, Death. As for you, roozbah, a simple Google search would tell you that SDMF stands for Strength Determination Merciless Forever, denoting me as a fan of Black Label Society.

          • roozbeh, again

Sorry, you won’t believe the amount of idiots I have seen on the Internet that keep saying the same thing.
And truth be told, I was in a bad mood.

          • SDMF

I’m well aware of the idiots. All you have to do is look at Amazon reviews. So yeah, simply looking for a reason why I’ve had four Ones fail in six months when, by comparison, the only other console I’ve ever had fail in six months was my first 360.

          • ImTheMetalLord

Did you use different power sources. Not only different bricks but plug it into a different room. Almost sounds like you have power issues.

          • ImTheMetalLord

Or overheating issues. Give it plenty of space.

          • SDMF

I’ve used the same power source every time ,and the only other item in said plug is my 360. Same room as well.

          • ImTheMetalLord

I would change it up and see if that is what is causing the issue. No reason to keep hammering on the same thumb over and over again. I know it may not be where you want to hook it up but I wouldn’t keep plugging into the same source.

          • SDMF

            Fair enough and equally simple.

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

sux for you. i have had one One. no problems. My ps4 works great too. I really think all the fuss was because of super fanboys buying the systems and messing them up and sending them back. jk that would be just crazy right?

      • SDMF

Sadly, fanboys would do that. Eventually, we’ll have both the One and a PS4 in the house. The One just took priority.

    • Death Dealer

If what you are saying is true, then there is another problem than standard device failure causing it as it’s way above the norm of failure.
There could be a peak power problem that fries your equipment or maybe a pet that likes to bump into your Xbox One (or any other kind of abuse)?

      • SDMF

Would a power issue not fry my other electronics (tv, 360S)? In terms of being bumped into, it sits on a shelf too high for my dog to run into.

        • Death Dealer

Yes, it very likely would unless the Xbox One is perhaps fed by another plug (perhaps without surge protection).

          • SDMF

It gets dusted weekly and is plugged into the same outlet as my 360S. That’s all that’s plugged into said outlet. There is nothing else covering.

          • Death Dealer

Wow, it’s just weird and just like I said, it’s way above the norm so there has to be something else causing it (or it just could be plain bad luck). I have quite a lot of mates with an imported Xbox One (it’s not out here yet) and none have had a failure yet. All I can say for the moment is that it sucks and don’t have a direct explanation for it happening so often to you.
You could try the official Xbox Support Forums or chat. They probably give far better advice than I ever could.

          • SDMF

Chat arranged to send a replacement next week. I got the impression that the rep was going to give me some Gold until she saw that my sub is good until 2016. My friends that have Ones haven’t had any problems and they all got theirs at launch.

          • Death Dealer

That’s probably the least they could do. But doesn’t every replacement from MS come with a month of Gold? That used to be the case with the Xbox 360.

          • SDMF

Good question. I have no idea. So far Amazon has replaced 3/4 Ones that went bad. Microsoft is replacing this one because Amazon doesn’t have any replacements in stock, which I find curious. That means that either they aren’t replacing many, so they don’t keep many in stock, or they are replacing more than they keep stocked.

          • Death Dealer

Ah I see, if it’s Amazon doing the replacements, then that could be why there is no Gold there, or maybe it was just MS’s goodwill with the Xbox 360 because of the 3 Red Lights problem being so widespread.
I haven’t seen many failure reports around the net, so I’m very sure your case is an isolated one (The SDF would jump at anything to make such a story widespread and would be on sites like GAF/N4G/VGChartz in no time just to have another dig at MS). IMO it’s probably because they aren’t replacing many.

          • SDMF

I got the impression it was due to how high the failure rate was for the 360 around launch. Amazon has done great in dealing with the failures. They’ve sent a replacement overnight with a free return. MS is sending me a replacement next week for $15, presumably to cover shipping.

I would hope my case is isolated, and it is if you consider my roughly 10 friends that have Ones that haven’t failed. As for the SDF, it’s their loss. True gamers enjoy all consoles, regardless of brand. You can’t play Gears, Halo, Killer Instinct, etc on PS. Likewise, you can’t play God of War, Killzone, etc on Xbox.

  • Brian Ghattas

I guess nobody cares about Powerstar Golf here. Just a bunch of horny and under-endowed men talking video games consoles instead of playing them.

    Not good.

    • sentury111

Thanks for saving me the time. I for one am happy to see new courses for the game.
