Forza Horizon 2 Announced

Forza Horizon 2

The pre-E3 announcements just keep coming – Turn 10 and Playground Games have just revealed that Forza Horizon 2 is coming to Xbox One and Xbox 360. We’ll have plenty to share with you at E3 next week, but in the meantime, click over to IGN; they’ll have more on Forza Horizon 2 every day this week.

Xbox 360, Xbox One By Jeff Rubenstein

  • http://www.Bonxy.info/ Sam Ward

    Amazing news. #excited!

  • Mikael Soltaniha

I *really* hope that it comes with all those expensive DLC’s!! You know, just to prove that they haven’t learned anything!!!!! :DDD

  • beardyman3218

Hope to see it in action at E3.

  • Michal

    I LOVE YOU. YES!!!

  • Gazza!!!

Another big game announcement pre E3. Something big must be in the offing and hopefully its not an anti climax.

    • Alex_Atkin_UK

At least the last couple of years haven’t been exactly exciting at E3, so it wouldn’t take much to top them.

  • evilfangs .

Please leave some stuff for E3. I think you’re blowing your load a bit early.

    • Nick Peck

Phil said they were way over 90min for their e3 presentation so they are letting out some info early. It’s a great tactic to make people interested in watching it as everyone is wondering what big news they must be holding back. There will be a few new IP’s shown for sure (that much as been said already).

They are doing this for a specific reason and aren’t jeopardizing their e3 conference at all.

  • Paul Cedfeldt

Very much looking forward to this!! Forza Horizon was my favorite racer on the 360.

  • Michael Dias

Lets face reality here, this news is a disappointment. The game was not that great on 360 and there is no reason to even get excited about the sequel. Forza Horizon is not a big title, nor is it a quality game that anyone should be excited for. I hope many of you snap out of it and realize what the gaming industry is doing to the consumers. Stop pre-ordering games, your just enabling them to sell incomplete, broken, and unplayable games on launch with little to no support. Pick up a real racing game like the main line of Forza games, not this generic wana be need for speed they call horizon.

    • evilfangs .

You had me right up until you said real racing game then mentioned the Forza games.

      • Michael Dias

Would you like to speak of a game that is better or more realistic than Forza 5? I can understand you don’t think its “realistic” if you never used a wheel with it.

        • evilfangs .

Assetto Corsa, iRacing and Rfactor 2 to name a few, are way more realistic then Forza 5. Even Forza 4 is better then 5.

          • Michael Dias

Your a fail troll, never expose it this early in a conversation. You had me going for a minute. iRacing! LOL you fail kid. We are talking about xbox/xbox one here.

          • evilfangs .

Who said Xbox here? You said nothing about platforms. You said real racing games and I told you just that.

          • Michael Dias

Dude you either the worst troll ever or not educated at all. This is a blog for a xbox employee about xbox and xbox one products. Are you lost or just a rocket scientist?

          • evilfangs .

If you want to limit yourself just because you’re on a Xbox blog then so be it, but here us regular posters like to talk about any and all games, it doesn’t matter if it has the Microsoft logo on the box.

You asked for a real racing game that is better then Forza 5 and I told you. Now you can either hide behind the banner of this is a blog for a Xbox employee about Xbox products or you can speak about any and all games with real gamers who don’t care about brand loyalty.

          • bakedraggyroo

I really enjoyed the Toca-Pro race driver series from Codemasters back on the original xbox. That’s what got me off Nascar and onto road coarse racing.

          • Alex_Atkin_UK

There can never be a true simulation without VR and chairs to simulate G forces, etc. So much of the driving experience (in the real world) is down to touch, feel, perception. Only a tiny minority of gamers can have that sort of rig.

As such I would rather have an unrealistic game that is fun to drive, than one that simulates the car accurately but its impossible to drive because you do not have the feedback you need to actually drive in the real world.

    • Gazza!!!

Personally I preferred Horizon to the ”sim” Forza franchise and I’m looking forward to this iteration. Also I never pre-order games just like I never buy season pass’s before I know what comes with it.

      • Michael Dias

I am glad that you dont, we the customers get scammed when people preorder. Everyone buying season passes before any of the DLC is even made, preording games that are still like betas. You rock! I enjoy a good arcade racer, I just felt that this “Horizon” series was a poorly ripped NFS type game.

        • GamerResentment

It wasn’t even trying to be NFS but ok. I do agree with your first couple sentences though greatly!

    • John Smith

“More sim” does not necessarily make for a better game. No sim can match the realism of my daily commute to work – and that’s a good thing. Sometimes, light on the realism can be fun. Forza Horizon is a fun game.

    • marco

i think ur the first person ive heard that from online, everybody i know with horizon enjoyed it, some enjoyed it even more than forza motosport, i havent seen anyone bash this game other than the cross gen bla bla bla which was addressed ,, maybe ur just hard to please, also i played horizon how is it like need for speed ? u lost me there, also i think ur should stick with forza motorsport lol ur too simmy

    • GamerResentment

Let’s face it, it’s your opinion and practically everyone else here disagrees with you so maybe your the one who needs the “let’s face it” lecture.

  • Guerrero Ultimo

The more sequels that they announce pre-e3 gets my hopes up that we will see some new IP. I have many series I really like but would really like to see some more fresh ideas. Forza Horizon 2 on the one should be much fun though and will be a game I will buy.

  • http://www.kevin-fell.co.uk/ Kevin Fell

Loved the original, how about a celebratory discount on the Rally pack / or season pass?

    • GamerResentment

Been done, twice actually. Got everything for $20 I believe.

      • http://www.kevin-fell.co.uk/ Kevin Fell

I’m well aware of that thanks!!

I only got the game at xmas and it hasn’t been on sale since. I knew the ultimate game sale day offer was good but decided against purchasing it before owning the game because I’d already spent a load of money on other games / DLC.

        • GamerResentment

Gotcha, then I hope they do it again for you! Truly. I think it makes it 249 or 250 cars? Something like that. Good luck. Maybe not til another big sale thoygh :/

  • The Yankee

Michael Dias you have no clue what your talking about…I agree the game did not sell like gangbusters but it definitely sold enough to warrant a sequel. It really sounds like you never played the game…it has tons or replayability..I’ve been playing the first one for over a year and still only about 80-90% done..with a fan base of 80+ mil on Xbox 360 and 5+ mil on Xbox one you can’t go wrong with this one…

    • Michael Dias

Never played? Seriously that’s the best you can do? I have been a part of Xbox for a very long time and played over 300 games and I have over 100k GS lol. I have played more games than you know exist. Next time respond inline with the existing conversation so I know your talking to me.

      • Michael Burden

But did you play Horizon? Does not matter how many games you’ve played or what your gamerscore is – all that is irrelevant and dodges his point.

The original was good but did feel as though it could have used a little more content (bigger world, more roads, more cars) – these are hopefully addressed in the sequel. It was definitely a nice change of pace from the main Forza series and reminiscent of the Test Drive Unlimited series of games. If you are trying to compare it to the NFS series then I can see how The Yankee came to the conclusion you hadn’t played them as they are not similar in any way other than they have cars and racing. Test Drive Unlimited, Fuel and Midnight Club: LA are closer to the open world game style used in Horizon.

        • Michael Dias

Of course I played it. There were many aspects of the game I enjoyed but overall I was very let down by it. It just seems like less and less is put into these games, not just racing but all games. NFS and TD etc are all very similar to horizon. The only one that stood apart was the main line Forza games. Even Forza mainline games they don’t do that great with, they keep making changes that slowly ruined the game series. Does it look great sure, but it has half the content, they ruined the tuning/painting marketplace setup, and there is nothing to do in it as they took out so many of the fun online game modes. I could have been irrational about Horizon but I am just being honest. It is nothing to get excited about. Maybe if its 29.99

        • Michael Dias

You know now that I think about it, the “open world” bs from horizon 1 is where a lot of my hate for this game is coming from. I remember I just wanted a game that was free roam open world with rally, then there was never any true rally to the game. IDK i guess im just tired of being ignored as a customer. You give these jokers feedback and because you have something truthful to say about their products they completely ignore you and the hundreds of people complaining. T10 thinks there invincible because they are a subsidiary of M$. They need to be fixing and adding to FM5 instead of doing deals with playground.

      • The Yankee

Really?!? 10yrs + on Xbox live…also a gamerscore of 100k…beta tester for Xbox live along with 10+ games and live updates…part of the Xbox Ambassadors…I’m sorry you where saying something about yourself?!? You obviously responded so you know I was talking to you…and again NO you haven’t played the game or you would know the game experience is well worth a sequel…

  • Liquidfx Xboxdude

    hell yeah!

  • roozbeh, again

Awesome, should have kept this for E3 though.

    • Death Dealer

Yes, right now I’m thinking they are thinking they have an announcement that’s going to change everything. I hope that’s the case and it blows everyone away in awe.

      • Brad

I wouldn’t hold my breath …This announcement is more likely an attempt from MS to get some interest going for the Kinectless XB1 which arrives on June 9th. Have you seen the numbers for the past 2 weeks… it’s pretty anemic for any launch console this early.

        • roozbeh, again

Not really, Q1 is a slow quarter for all sales, the big money is at the later quarters.

          • Brad

Except the ps4 which had doubled the xb1 sales. Thanks for your opinion though, I really appreciate it.

          • roozbeh, again

I’m gonna have to hold you up on that. It was announced that the PS4 sold more units than Xbox in April, it was never announced how much it sold.

The Xbox One sold 175K that mouth, for all we know the PS4 could have sold 175001 and they would have won the month.

  • John Smith

Good to hear – I’ve enjoyed Forza Horizon more than most other racing games, including Forza 5. I’ll definitely get this one.

  • http://raptr.com/unscleric/about UNSCleric

This will be a Day One purchase for me.

  • ryder4life22187

at least its coming to the 360 so now I can pick it up and don’t miss out on it

  • https://twitter.com/Ganon255 Ganon255

Loved the first Horizon. Great soundtrack, pacing, and vibe. Now I wish I didn’t purchase Forza 5 for $80, it’s fairly meh.

  • http://matejgottwald.wordpress.com/ Matěj Gottwald

Great news! I was keeping my hopes up Horizon 2 would be released. And here it is! Can’t wait! Love Forza, loved the original Horizon (much, much more than any other arcade racers, Horizon even persuaded me to quit NFS series altogether).

    • GamerResentment

NFS series? You mean Need For More Burnout dontcha? Not need for speed anymore but yeah Horizon is great :D

  • http://YouTube.com/EoRdE6 Edward Orde

    Yessssss!

  • Nick King

Just sold my Forza 5 with the intention of buying the digital version this month (it was mentioned as one of the games on sale). Not sure whether to wait now for Forza Horizons 2 instead, I never played the first one so looking for peoples opinions? I’m more of an arcade racer myself although I do like Forza 5.

    • Death Dealer

If you’re more of an arcade type racer, then I think you should definitely give the first Horizon a try. If you like it, get 2.

    • Michael Burden

Like DeathDealer says, try the original if you get a chance. But I would avoid the GoD version as there are still some issues with it that have yet to be fixed – get it on disc if possible (or try the demo). There can be some issues trying to play it on a different console than the one which it was purchased on (specifically it just won’t work), which can be problematic if you have to change your console due to repair or replacement as well as if you decide to install it on a second 360.

    • Brad

Forza Horizon is fun and gorgeous game. The sequel should be just as good and better than Forza 5.

    • GamerResentment

Agreed with these other posts. It’s sim-like enough to not make you feel like you can make a 90 degree turn at 200mph but also arcade-like enough to still perform impossible but fun tricks and drifts and such. In other words, though not realistic, it feels it could be since it is mostly without the whole “slow down to 20mph to make a slight turn, turned to sharp so lost control, hit gas too hard to get speed so spun out” that’s so common in sim titles. I say get the first. Pretty cheap now. No cop chases though but I spent my first like 8hrs just driving around to get from 250th place in game to 1st. Plenty of great pic opportunities to. I personally prefer open world city racers but grew to appreciate FH country setting.

  • Abdullah

Random here did you guys know that a new homefront is being made you that THQ game which was a bad generic FPS but thus it’s made by deep silver and crytec

    • deadbox102

Yes, Crytek purchased the rights to Homefront when THQ went under. The IP has potential and I hope Crytek proves it this time around.

      • Death Dealer

Indeed but I would hope Homefront would come to Games on Demand again at some point.

        • deadbox102

          Are the servers still up?

          • Catalyst

No, which is why it was taken down. That campaign was boring and short, but the multiplayer, as you stated, had incredible potential.

          • deadbox102

I really enjoyed the multiplayer, especially the point system to obtaining vehicles and drones. Put that in the hands of a studio who knows what they’re doing and it would be a hit.

          • Alex Tran

The multiplayer was good. The single player however didn’t live up to what I thought it would be. They built up the backstory so nicely. Sad the campaign was only four hours.

          • deadbox102

Agreed. I suffered through the campaign to get the achievements, but would spend many hours on the multiplayer.

    • Mike

bad? it was a great game. Single and multiplayer.

      • Abdullah

Single player was bad but I have to say the multiplayer was really good

  • Death Dealer

Excellent! So, um, Halo 2 Anniversary on wednesday or thursday? ;)

  • Chris Rabideau

    Woohoo! =) Awesome.

  • http://xxkarzaxx.tumblr.com/ Karza

I loved the original Horizon!I probably would not have played it if someone didn’t buy it for me,but I’m glad I got a chance and it was awesome.

With the way prices are in Australia I’ll hold off on buying it because they’ll probably charge double what it’s worth at launch.

  • kingcrusher

Cool, I will definitely be picking this one up when it comes out!

On a sad note, I stuck in my zune to play some music on my XBox 1, and found out it doesn’t play music off of MP3 players! So another step BACKWARDS for the system. My blood boiled for a bit and then I calmed down. I just don’t see the reason to release a new system if it’s inferior in any way to the previous one.

    • GamerResentment

Because they know that there will be early adopters regardless. Same reason games get released broken. It’s unfortunate but here we are still supporting it

  • Cheeze Ace

    deal of weak?

    • Does Not Equal

I don’t think this is eligible.

      • Cheeze Ace

        thanks

  • kriegir

    woooo stoked!

  • Alex_Atkin_UK

Despite owning an Xbox 360 and NOT an Xbox One, I am disappointed to see this as a cross-gen title.

People need to see games pushing the boundaries, doing things you CAN’T do on last-gen consoles. Cross-gen games by their nature cannot offer any game-changing innovations that cannot already be done on the older generation hardware. Just look at the complaints against Watch Dogs for just being a slightly prettier game.

Its fine if you already own a newer console, its a no brainer to get the better looking version. However I am still waiting for the must-have game to convince me to get Xbox One and releasing cross-gen games is just going to keep me holding back.

    • Death Dealer

Because it’s not a cross gen title made by one studio, so it won’t be held back. It’s an Xbox One (FM5 engine) to Xbox 360 (FH 360 engine) port job by another studio: Sumo. Playground is only working on the Xbox One version.
      Nice speech, but entirely useless.

      • Brad

Like Titanfall? And we all know how that turned out. What doesn’t apply here is your reply as you have no clue what you are talking about.

        • Death Dealer

Then neither do you. Titanfall was another port job and the Bluepoint studio in question explained very clearly the troubles they had porting towards the Xbox 360, which was still very impressive.

          • Brad

The only troubles was working with the ram on the 360, which they pulled off fine as the games are VERY similar. They had to rebuild the game for the 360…Almost exact. But that has NOTHING to do with what I said. Two separate studios worked on titanfall and in the end they made almost identical games… that failed to sell consoles.

          • Death Dealer

Then you should have properly put that in your reply instead of “Like Titanfall? And we all know how that turned out. What doesn’t apply here is your reply as you have no clue what you are talking about.”
They had more than just the RAM allocation as a problem,
Read the Digital Foundry article: digitalfoundry-2014-titanfall-xbox-360-tech-interview

          • Brad

You still don’t know what you are talking about. Titanfall is a last gen title on a next gen console. At least with the XBox 360 and the $28.00 it cost, you are getting your money’s worth.

          • Nick Peck

Actually that game helped sell a pretty good amount of systems during it’s first month out. If you were expecting 3m systems to sell then ya you would be disappointed.

          • Brad

Nick it couldn’t outsell the PS4 in America with Titanfall, (and the PS4 had nothing releasing that week) that’s a fail buddy plain and simple.

      • Alex_Atkin_UK

If they made the game and it was totally watered down on Xbox 360 (missing key features), people would be more upset than if they had skipped Xbox 360 entirely.

So I can guarantee they are making it knowing they cannot implement any feature that the Xbox 360 cannot pull off, therefore its a cross-gen title.

Again look at Watch Dogs. They were primarily focusing on the PS4 version and it really does run quite nice, but its still essentially the same game on PS3/Xbox 360. The fancy physics on the PS4/One versions could NOT be used to affect how the game plays, because that would make it play differently on PS3/Xbox 360.

A game will only be truly next-gen when they are allowed to use that extra processing power to change how the game PLAYS, not just how it looks. I also really hope FH2 looks more alive than FM5, which looks like a dead world in all the footage I have seen. When you are driving around a sparse environment you need world physics to make it feel alive, FM5 didn’t even have that.

These NBA 2K add-ons are ridiculous. lol Seems like every other week.

It looks like it’s an Activision Sale this time as they are not listed as “Gold Price”

      Deja vu

    • Professor Oak

Seems good, might pick up saints row 4, cheapest I have seen it yet, even though it is more like 40% off since I see it going for 19.99. Thoughts on farcry?

      • ImTheMetalLord

I’m going to pick up Far Cry Classic and I’ve heard that there is a lot of peeps that like Blood Dragon but when I tried the demo it wasn’t for me. Also thinking about getting Rayman Legends.

        • GamerResentment

I loved blood dragon. If you can walk around aimlessly in Skyrim just because of the atmosphere and you like Tron-esque/70’s-90’s action movies, you’ll like this. Warning though, blood dragon die stupidly, just kinda vanish, and cars don’t explode all the time when you *spoiler kinda* use the ultimate weapon.

          • Nick Peck

Blood Dragon was fantastic lol, I really enjoyed that game.

      • Some Person

I picked up classic… loads times are long (longer than PC was back in the day) and graphics are dated (it is a 10+ year old game after all) but up to chapter 3 and it’s quite smooth.

    • Jared

Where do you find those Sales if i ask.

      • Death Dealer

Xbldb(dot)com. They use a price tracking script to see what the current deals are.

        • Jared

          Thx

Mr Ninja: friggin sweet… good lookin out metal lord.

  • Jacob Rael

So you want a game that could be a potential system seller to be on the 360 too, boy thats a genius idea, NOT.

    • GamerResentment

I wouldn’t say this is a system seller. Forza 5 let down a lot of people so they/Devs might feel “safer” keeping to the 360. System seller is maybe the new halo or something.

  • Vince

This is good. Give us all of the milked franchises before E3. Then hopefully we’ll see something new by June 9.

    • Death Dealer

I wouldn’t call a sequel to one game a “milked franchise”, but yes, this is good.

    • Ash2X

Milked? There was just one Spin-Off which was almost completely different from Forza Motorsport as a Racing-Simulation and it was the best Game of it´s kind.

    • slasaru

Milked will be Uncharted V and GOW I don’t know how much

    • http://Soundcloud.com/DJQuadinero DJ Qua dinero

This isn’t milked this is different from the regular forza, somebody doesn’t have an xbox.

  • EXbob

Hopefully there won’t be bullshit microtransactions this time.

    • GamerResentment

There were microtransactions but I never felt I needed them. I made loads of money fast. It seemed like it was only there for the impatient “gimme a lambo now” kind. At least to me. In fact I bought a lot of the later cars without even getting half way through the game but just driving around. Hopefully same or less microtransactions because I don’t like em in full purchase games. Only freemium. So I’ll agree with you a bit ;)

    • Nick Peck

Why can you people not just act like they aren’t there? I have played a ton of games with them and if I didn’t want anything they offered, I acted like they weren’t there and it never reduced my fun with the game(s). Seriously, the need to complain…

      • EXbob

Because they then artificially lengthen the amount of time it takes to unlock those things without paying extra money. They did it with Forza 5, Ryse, Garden Warfare, and a bunch of others. There should never be microtransactions in a game you’ve already paid for.

      • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

He really does have a point there. In forza 5 for example when it first released you had to absolutely grind your way through everything.. and that was set like that because of them having the microtransactions. The only reason it changed was because of the complaints. same with other games, obviously not all but a lot that implement them. The simple fact is if you paid a premium for a game it should not contain them.

  • RoninGamer

So much for new Forza 5 tracks…

    • Michael Burden

You do realize that Horizon is made by a completely different developer (Playground) and this game does not affect Turn 10’s programming schedule, right?

      • RoninGamer

Turn 10 is sharing all tech, assets, and “key personnel”

More then likely they’ve already shifted towards Forza 6.

        • Michael Burden

Sharing tech and assets does not take away from the support of Forza 5, and I fail to see how you can come to that conclusion. Same with the sharing of key personnel – Forza 5 is complete and they don’t need the all their developer staff to work on DLC. If work has begun on Forza 6, it is in the very early stages and nowhere near full development which would require the attention of the full studio.

Turn 10 helping on this game does not detract from the work that needs to be done on the main Forza line in any way at this point.

          • RoninGamer

Let’s consolidate our discussion into one reply. Normally I’d agree with every thing you are saying, however, there are only a couple car packs still coming out under the car pass and NO announcements on tracks.

            NONE

Maybe they have a big Forza presentation planned at E3, showcasing Horizon 2 and new content for 5, but one would think they’d announce the tracks first and save Horizon for the expo. Developing Forza 6 is more likely, as it will fall in line with the 2 year interval between franchises they seem to be going for.

also…since Turn 10 is a subdivision of Microsoft, its probably in their best interest to not compete against itself.

They are going to want everyone to migrate over to Horizon

Your last sentence makes little sense since the games are different in style – one is more geared towards the sim racer and the other is an open world, more arcade style racer. There is not going to be a huge migration from the regular Forza line to Horizon – both will coexist nicely and not compete with each other.

At least this is 30fps for a reason: open world. DriveClub only does 30fps and isn’t even open world. Ha!
