Game Description: In the remote mountains of Colorado, horrors wait inside Mount Massive Asylum. A long-abandoned home for the mentally ill, recently re-opened by the “research and charity” branch of the transnational Murkoff Corporation, the asylum has been operating in strict secrecy… until now. Acting on a tip from an anonymous source, independent journalist Miles Upshur breaks into the facility, and what he discovers walks a terrifying line between science and religion, nature and something else entirely. Once inside, his only hope of escape lies with the terrible truth at the heart of Mount Massive.

  • NOCTORNUS

I played this on PS4, it is the scariest game EVER and I’ve played Dead Space, Resident Evil and Silent Hill. This is the real deal for scares

    • dibils

      i didnt even twitch

    • ryder4life22187

How have you played Dead Space, Resident Evil and Silent Hill and not played Fatal Frame series

      • Liquidfx Xboxdude

where did he say he didn’t play the Fatal Frame series? im confused.

        • ryder4life22187

all he said was he played dead space, resident evil, and silent hill.

  • jase

    No thanks, ill skip it.

  • King_Tyrion
  • Sam Smith

    15.99, are you high Microsoft?
PS4 users got this 4 months ago and for FREE.
I recommend adding this to the currently lackluster Games for Gold lineup to sweeten the deal.

    • ryder4life22187

If its 15.99 on XB1 then it’s better than paying 19.99 on PS4

      • Jan Václavík

Its GBP 15.99. Basically the price is the same as on Steam / PSN.

      • Liquidfx Xboxdude

got is for free on ps4 so i think that beats 15.99. not sure though.

        • ryder4life22187

I got it on ps4 from plus as well. Didn’t care for it as it was too boring.

    • Gazza!!!

We get GwG that aren’t even on the PS4 for FREE. My god why are people so entitled to expect everything for free these days.

      • Sam Smith

Because Max: Curse of Brotherhood & Halo Spartan Assault where of anywhere near the same quality weren’t they?
It’s not about entitlement its about Microsoft actually trying to compete with Sony and not looking like a joke in comparison. Some of us actually want to justify our Xbox One purchase and have a voice as a consumer.

        • kevgallacher

I never bought the new consoles to get ‘free’ games.
I can get plenty of free or really cheap games through Steam or Origin or on my phone. ‘Free’ games don’t justify the console’s purchase, the line-up of future titles shown at E3 is justification for me.
The games they offer on PS+ and GWG are usually either rubbish or games that most people bought when they first came out. I tend to buy the games that I like when they are first released so these games getting offered up on these services months after release don’t really mean much to me.

          • Sam Smith

It isn’t all about you though is it?
Why are you bothering to reply to so many commentors on this article if it “doesn’t really mean much to me(you).” Clearly it does. This isn’t about Steam or Origin, this about Xbox Live and it’s direct competitior PS+. Calling some of the games offered on previous gen Plus/GWG deals “rubbish” is just plain ignorant and actually makes you sound a little jealous, but you aren’t willing to admit it and rise above your fanboyism.

          • kevgallacher

So none of the games offered on these services are rubbish games?
What fanboyism, I have gave no indication of what console I prefer. I am not saying either console is better. Just simply that the ‘free’ games aren’t free. There is no jealousy, why would I be. I am a grown adult and I can buy any console I want. I just don’t want a PS4. I also don’t want most of these games. The good games I want from these services, I already own.

      • Death Dealer

That’s all Sony’s fault with their sub based gaming and in part Valve with their massive devaluing Steam sales twice a year. The industry has turned into a terribly devalued state from what it was 5 years ago but attracts more because of it.
People only think about their own wallet and not what it means for the industry that provides that entertainment, so sad. If it crashes again, there might be even more shovelware than we have now.

        • Gazza!!!

Even the saviour of Xbox Phil Spencer said something similar, a few months before GwG on the XBO was announced. I just hope we don’t see the industry bottom out due to the reasons you mentioned.

    • kevgallacher

“PS4 users got this 4 months ago and for FREE”
No, PS+ got this game as part of a premium subscription, not free.

      • Liquidfx Xboxdude

        and it was free.

        • Jorge Garza

Free by paying… hmmm. There goes logic.

          • Mike P.

            What is logic?

      • Sam Smith

Well it was included (free, at no extra cost) along with their premium subscription, which their consoles are useless online without. Who really has a next gen console without online? Not many people.
I could’ve created a free PS+ trial then redeemed this game for free, played it for a month to complete it then never play again after the trial expires…I’d have played and got the game license for free. Go figure.

        • Gazza!!!

Max is quality. Loved it when I bought and still go back to it today. Just because you think Outlast is better is due to the subjective nature of games. If you didn’t have a PS+ trial and missed it its no longer available to download free. Not only that I know plenty of people who are disappointed with some of the games offered as part of PS+.

  • Docker Al

    Played it already. FOR FREE!

    • ryder4life22187

      MS can’t resist sloppy seconds.

      • Zichu .

Pretty sure Sony got the sloppy seconds, we’re third…

        • ryder4life22187

ya thats true. But I never count PC as part of it as I only enjoy consoles.

  • Ramon Lucio

that is seriously paying to play this game? PSN was launched four months ago and it was for free because we will have to pay? More attention with gamers Major Nelson, I think we deserve more!

    • Nick Peck

Of course you do, like everyone else. Everyone owes you free stuff because you think so!@!

      • Ramon Lucio

the simple fact that I get this game on PSN free.

      • Ramon Lucio

the simple fact that I get this game on PSN free.

        • Gazza!!!

The simple fact is if you didn’t get this when it was free its not free any more and costs the same on Xbox and PS4.

    • Mike P.

I’m still confused why my xbox cant play ps4 games and why sony and microsoft aren’t sending me checks every month because I am one of their customers. It’s just so stupid, they’re terrible companies, and they don’t know what they’re doing.

    • trilogy10100 .

the game is not free anymore

  • Benny Janssen

    One Version 1080p 60fps ?

    • JohnnyXB1

      4K 260fps lol

    • todd Wright

      yes it is

  • Ash2X

20€? I´ve played it a bit on PS4…10 Bucks are ok,everything over it is just too much.A good proof that 1080p and UE4-Engine isn´t everything. Some of the Textures were straightforward ugly.

    • Nick Peck

That’s partly do to it not being a massive studio kicking out a AAA game. Then U4 engine will shine when you see the big boys kicking games out using it.

  • Clemo81

It was Free on PS+ yes, i bought a ps4 months after. it was not on there for free, i paid £15.99 and then £8 something for the DLC. a week or two later it was in there sale for half price. A Little bit gutted but the game is worth it. very atmospheric, just buy it, support the Devs, or wait til its on sale. don’t get all ripped off about things.

  • kevgallacher

Will everyone stop calling PS+ games free.
It is not free, you pay a premium subscription to play these games.
Do you consider everything on Netflix or Sky to be free?

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

they are free because i didn’t have to pay for them. stop being jealous and go get a ps4 or ps3. just game dude.

      • kevgallacher

So is your PS+ account free? I’m not being jealous, if I wanted a PS3 or PS4, I would just buy one.
I just think its weird that people say that a paid premium service is free when it is not. If that were the case then online gaming on Xbox One is free and they give me as much free music, TV shows and films as I want through Xbox music and Netflix.

        • MossbergShottie

Nobody is saying that PS+ or XBL is free.. You pay for the services.. we get that.. The select games are included with your subscription. THEY are free. They do not charge for the games on top of your subscription costs (until after a month).. Youre mainly paying to play online, discounts and whatnot.. The games are like bonuses for your subscription.. Does your monthly subscription rate increase because of the free games they offer? No..

          • kevgallacher

No but if you stop paying you lose them. So they are not free. It is basically an extended rental contract or subscription based gaming.

          • MossbergShottie

Yes you lose the games (until you renew your subscription, they come back), but you also lose online multiplayer, discounts, online storage, etc.. I pay for PS+ and XBL for the online multiplayer, not the games they give you. So I look at them as being free.

          • kevgallacher

The whole online multiplayer is a recent addition to PS+, you never had to pay for it on PS3.
the whole point of Pas+ was for the instant game collection. You can look at it however you want but you are paying for these games.

          • Death Dealer

Yep, welcome to the world where we don’t own anything anymore. People shouldn’t forget that it was Sony that started this tremendous devaluing of the industry. It’s hilarious all the hypocrisy.

        • Jon Taylor

You are correct sir, bonus additional content locked behing a subscription required paywall is not FREE….it is bonus content.
People are very confused these days as to what “free” actually means. The content is not free for anyone to take, because you must pay first. There are no “free” programmes to watch on your ‘Sky’ subscription just because they may be new to the service…

      • avi

        that isn’t free.
free is free, no matter what.
for ps+, you have to first pay for the subscription before you get your game rentals.

        • DaWhiteBrotha

Yes, stop paying you lose the games. This is exactly what Microsoft is doing now as well. At least for Xbox One. Unlike before once you downloaded the game it was yours to keep . . . FOREVER!!!

See people . . . this is what happens when you complain nonstop about a good thing and compare it to an inferior thing. Now we have a worse “free” program than did before.

Another example is the Kinect. Some people hate it sure, but removing it all but kills the innovating things it was going to have in couple years. The complaining made Xbox One a weaker system for it.

Who cares if the “numbers” are little bit smaller compared to the PS4. The visual difference is honestly unnoticeable unless you pause and stare at it for hours to critique it.

People if you want to do that and not play the game, go to a freakin’ museum and stare paintings on the wall.

The useless complaining you keep doing is only hurting your future experiences with this system. If want something you think as better, than go buy a PS4 and miss out on all the stuff coming for the Xbox One.

          • kevgallacher

“The complaining made Xbox One a weaker system for it.”
Technically it made it more powerful – 10% more powerful to be exact without the Kinect.

    • Sam Smith

Except you could just download all the games on a trial subscription then keep playing with free trial codes therefore giving you free PS+ benefits and free games…

  • Maritox

anyobody knows if will be ported to 360 sometime?

    • Nick Peck

      I wouldn’t count on it.

  • James

Thank you Xbox for getting this on the Store. Played this on PC, and is one of my favorite games. Just picked it up and looking forward to playing through it and the DLC tonight. Great game for anyone who hasn’t played it!

  • http://raptr.com/unscleric/about UNSCleric

I think I saw this game on Conan a few months back. This is an amazing surprise. I can’t wait to play it.

  • Liquidfx Xboxdude

i will just say this. This game was great for free and i bought the dlc just because it was free but it is not worth $20. just a heads up. it is worth $10 though. the dlc isn’t worth jack because it was a retread of the same thing meaning you actually go through the same places pretty much. the villain was awesome though.

  • David719

I think some people just like to complain lol. Yea the game was free on PSN for a month, but right now, it costs the same amount on Xbox Live as it does PSN. Outlast has made a name in the console market now. Would they really benefit all that much by taking a deal from Microsoft to give it away for free right now?

Why do people want the same free games anyway?

    • usrev

maybe they aren’t the same people. maybe some people only have 1 system.

when 1 system gets a good deal, it’s up to the competition to fight back. if suddenly comcast said they are dropping internet prices to $10 a month rather than the $50 they charge do you really think verizon would still charge about the same? no. they would have to compete.

  • John Smith

This was a good game on the PS4 – really enjoyed it, and that it was free was pretty nice. I’d still recommend it at $20.

    • ungeheier

How long of a game is it?

      • John Smith

Wrong person to ask – i’m the slowest game player ever known. Many are saying it’s somewhat short. It took me 2 months playing on-and-off.

      • Chris Nichols

Fastest playthrough recorded was 45 minutes to an hour but thats a guy who knew what to do already. Me personally when I bought it on PS4 it took me about 6 hours to beat but I looked for all the collectables and what not too

      • Chris Nichols

DLC is fun as hell too

  • Jesse Meating

Everyone with Xbox Ones complaining because this was “free” for PS4 clearly you made the wrong choice in consoles. It came out on PC before any consoles and wasn’t free so I don’t get the problem with the company that made the game charging money. Good way to support games that are good is to pay for them not just sit there expecting hand outs like an entitled losers. If you think $20 is a lot of money clearly you need to get a job.

    • John Smith

Yeah, darn those pesky, demanding consumers. They just need to take what they’re given and zip it.

    • andy

Except PS4 owners had no choice to grab it for free when it launched. It was forced on them lol. You are saying you would pay €20 quid for this game when you are being offered it free instead at the exact same time???

      • Jesse Meating

What I’m saying is just because it was free on PS4 doesn’t mean it has to be free on other platforms. I think the game is worth $20 so since it’s not free on One I don’t have a problem spending the money.

  • Generalkidd

If anyone here has played this game, rank it among these games in terms of most scary:

    Dead Space, Amnesia, Outlast
Just want to know which one is the best/scariest.

    • Ross Kemp

      1) Outlast ( DLC unconfirmed as I do not own it yet )
      2) Amnesia
      3) Dead Space

  • Fearful Symmetry

wait wait….how did this slip past me? I’m pretty up on everything game related, how did I not know this was coming to the xbone? pleasant surprise, did anyone play it yet and how well was it adapted over?

  • aRagingCanadian

Last night I was on the XBOX ONE forum and saw “Outlast on Game Store!” post I nearly jumped out of my chair. I saw a few gameplay/walkthrough videos a little while back when it was on PC & PS4, and there was no confrimation that it was coming to XBOX ONE. I have never really played a horror game all to much, expect if you count Dead Space or “Slender” as a horror game. I can’t wait to start playing this. So excited.

  • Peter

Good game too bad i already bought it on ps4 and dlc. Will buy again when both it and dlc drop in price on x1.

How did i miss hearing about this and 1001 spikes coming to x1? Woulda passed on both for the x1 versions instead.

  • kevgallacher

it could be worse. Wathdogs is $59.99 yet £59.99 in the UK

  • Ross Kemp

    10/10 IMHO .
Love this game , just need to buy the DLC on pay day .

  • Holymarine

You do remember we have this thing called TAX here right?

  • roozbeh, again

    Great, will definitely Get it.

  • Residentsteve01

Boring game it needs guns, why bring this game to xbox?

    • roozbeh, again

What an ignorant thing to say. How about we give those world cup players guns to kill their retrospective coaches?

      • Residentsteve01

Calm down, I don’t watch football any way that’s boring too.

    • deadbox102

Guess a game without guns isn’t supposed to be on xbox.

    • ImTheMetalLord

Because game’s with guns produce killers. Don’t you watch the news???

*SARCASM* for those that need to obvious pointed out to them.

But seriously, games with guns are not the only good games and there are different type of games for different types of players. Games with guns for guys without brains and all the rest for the rest of us.

      • Residentsteve01

I don’t watch the news very often to many better games to play.

    • DaWhiteBrotha

It had guns but people complained. So Microsoft removed them like did with Kinect and everything else.

    • Nick Peck

Because it’s not that type of game. It’s about moving around and not getting into combat. It is a creepy little game, but it’s not a game that would work with guns. If you don’t like it, walk on by.

      • Residentsteve01

Walk on by isn’t that a song?

  • Forsythia

I’m really glad this game is on Xbox One now!

  • Carnage Rules

Why can’t I use my MS currency with a credit card when I’m making a purchase anymore, Major?????

    • Nick Peck

? If I run out of credit it just charges me for the remainder of the balance on my credit card. Works ok for me… hmmmm lol.

  • JohnnyXB1

3.14$ in steam on sale now )))

    • KrisXX

“free” with Plus 6 months ago!! ))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

      • JohnnyXB1

        50$ free yea ))))

      • ImTheMetalLord

Cost of a time machine $1 billion…still cheaper on steam or even your X1

  • Axcalibur

Looks awesome – but I’ll wait until it inevitably goes on sale.
Shame there’s no demo – maybe that would have swayed me to pay the $20…

    • Axcalibur

Doesn’t let me “reply” to Jeff:
Can’t confirm nor deny that it was originally released for $60 on PS4, but on PC, it was released at $20, so I doubt it was a full priced game for PS4.

However, to your other comment – I don’t want to SEE the game, I want to PLAY the game. I watched the trailer, and it was enough to pique my interest, but I still want to get a real feel for the game. And I don’t bother with Twitch – Twitch is for followers, not gamers. Real gamers play games, not watch.
