  • King

This would be nice if I didn’t already own all 3 Bioshocks.

  • digitallife

Absolutely shocked to see Wolfenstein on sale.

    • Peter

? Not sure why if I recall it has been on sale before though not as low obviously

    • Jared

Well game came out 9 weeks ago so yea soon we well see Watch Dogs on sale.

      • Peter

Sorry my bad thought you meant the old wofenstein :)

    • Royvin

Not really it has been on sale at most retailers the past couple weeks for $39.99.

      • Nick Peck

I have yet to see it anywhere that cheap out by me :(

        • TheSchwartz

Wolfenstein is $40 at both Gamestop and Kmart this week.

        • Paul Josephson

Multiple places have at 39.99 and you don’t need to be a Gold member to get it from these sources. Just checked Amazon and it is $39 for the disc there as well. I mean digital has less actual and intrinsic costs then a disc version because digital has no shipping or product packaging. So, at the same price as a disc version found elsewhere it is still more expensive to us and the store (leaving digital more profitable to Microsoft)
This is getting disappointing. Digital is slowly loosing any shine. Some how they (Microsoft) think the Xbox One having the ability to switch to game without having a disc makes up for the negatives the digital item has. Among them: ability to resell the game, truly share the game, real good sales, multiple sources to grab digital from, etc…
I expect them to at least be market competitive but, they are not. This is especially disappointing after listening to how they were going to give great sales to Gold members (at E3). How is the same price (if lucky) or worst part of this new mantra. If they made it 36% off (not 33%) they could at least say it was better then most places I see the disc version at right now.
Of course Microsoft may see a digital purchase decline or not live up to their projections and they will have to react accordingly. Unfortunately, it will too late as people like myself will have moved on. I do love my Xbox One but, I also have a PS4 that is seeing more and more action because digital seems to be easier to attain from alternate sources and thus better prices.

          • Brian

To me being able to launch any game I want as an app from my couch is very much worth it to me for digital. If a game is $39 on disc and $39 on digital, it’s a no brainer. I don’t buy games to resell them. I may eventually but it’s not part of my gaming plan. I rarely lend or borrow anymore either. Then again I’m 32 and maybe money isn’t as much of an issue for me as it is for you. It’s not Steam – if you want Steam, then just build a PC for double the cost of an X1 and call it a day.

      • TheSchwartz

Yeah, which is fairly normal for retail. We are talking about XBL’s absurd digital pricing. Remember a couple weeks ago the XB1 “Deals” with Gold was $10 off Ryse? A launch game that was 7 months old? So yeah, I’m pretty shocked that a “new” game is being marked down by $20.

      • digitallife

My point is that its a game that came out in may, assassins creed came out last year and is still $60 digitally.

  • GenericBlackPerson420

I’m shocked that PvZ is on sale AGAIN. It literally was just on sale with the ‘Ultimate game sale’.

    • Professor Oak

On the 360, Xbox One Version is on sale this week

    • http://ryan.snook.us/ Snook

The only time it was on sale was in May and that was for 25% off.

  • cubs223425

I’d be in for Wolfenstein, but everything I’ve heard says it lacks longevity (10-15 hours), so $40 for a 2-day game I can’t trade in isn’t good enough for me. Garden Warfare is EA, so it’s an auto-pass. I wish the classic shooters (DOOM/Quake) were on the One, because I’d jump at them for $2.50 each.

    • Nick Peck

I’d say more around the 15-20 mark if you want to look for the collectables. If you are a game rusher then yah, it wouldn’t take you as long. However, even at 15hrs that’s almost unheard of for a shooter these days as most punch out around 6 to maybe 8hrs max.

Very solid game, but I can see what you are saying about digital vs. disc.

      • Peter

Agreed how long does cubs realistically expect a singleplayer fps to last? For me it certainly didnt feel short or rushed. Its not meant to be a a 40 hour plus long whatever rpg. Longevity?? Its not meant to be a game you play over and over again so not even sure how to respond

Unless your one of those gamers who sits down and literally plays a game straight through as fast as possible.

I never felt like it was over too fast. For a modern fps sp its actual not as short as some people wanna exagerate and hyperbole over.

        • Nick Peck

          Well said, same here.

      • cubs223425

Those games that run 6-8 hours (which I’d say is selling Halo short, though CoD is probably in that area) always have other activities, though. Halo and Call of Duty and Battlefield have online multiplayer, and some iterations also have Extinction/Zombies/Firefight as well. Wolfenstein’s campaign length alone isn’t its problem, it’s when you couple it with the lack of multiplayer (online or offline, competitive or cooperative). I agree that the length of the campaign is good, but the game is only the campaign, which lacks replay value (beyond Achievement hunting).

        • Nick Peck

Wolfenstien is SP only so I was only talking about SP. I agree with the games that have MP as that will add a ton of replay time to a game.

    • evilfangs .

Lacks longevity? It’s one of the longest FPS games to come out in years. It’s a two play-though game for different story due to different characters. It’s easily 20hours+

I normally play though my games super fast, recently did two play-thoughs and got plat on Second son in 2 days and Wolfenstein took me at least a week to complete.

      • cubs223425

Ehh, I suppose scrolling 2 inches to read my explanation was just TOO hard.
The game has a long campaign, but it also only has a campaign. There’s no wave-based mode like Gears’ Horde or Halo’s Firefight or Call of Duty’s Zombies/Extinction. There’s no online competitive multiplayer. Those things adds MONTHS of play to a shooter for me (the reason I had and played Black Ops II and Halo 4 from 2012 until I got my One in April).
So sure, the 12-hour Wolfenstein campaign dwarfs the 6-hour Call of Duty affair. Yes, it even beats the 8-10-hour Halo option. That doesn’t change the fact that it’s a single-player experience ONLY, and that makes it a terrible buy at $40. If I bought the game today, I’d be done by Friday. Why would I spend $40 on that?

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

it’s more of a rental. go to redbox and get it. $2 and you are done.

  • shafnitz

Anyone else unable to purchase using your account balance? I realize that you still can’t buy 360 content with your account balance, for some unknown reason. But today I can’t buy PvZ for X1 with my balance. Just wants me to use a credit card. I’ll just have to buy it when I get home, but it’s a little annoying.

    • Professor Oak

if you are trying to purchase via the website, you cannot use account balance

      • shafnitz

Only for 360 content. You’ve been able to buy Xbox One games on the website with account balance for some time now. I’ve done it several times.

        • Professor Oak

Ok, do you have enough credit for it, or does tax or whatever make it go over

          • shafnitz

Yeah, I’ve got plenty of credit. It’s not even giving me the option. I’m working with their Twitter support to figure it out. I’m not hearing about anyone else having issues, either.

    • Nick Peck

Yah you have to buy them from the console to use your account balance. I agree, it’s really stupid they took that away from the website. I hope they change that at some point.

    • shafnitz

So it’s an issue they’re aware of. I tried to post a link to the Twitter reply I got from @XboxSupport, but I guess comments with links need to be approved by hand.

      • shafnitz

So it looks like this isn’t a known issue. I can’t use my account balance on my Xbox One, either. It works on my 360, though. Not sure what’s going on, but it’s pretty annoying. Hopefully it gets resolved before the sale ends. Wanted to buy PvZ.

  • Professor Oak

Still hoping for a Capcom Publisher Sale….

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

      anything except Dark Void.

    • Paul

I thought they would of had Res Evil 4 and code veronica on the ultimate sale

  • Bennijin

The BioShock Infinite Season Pass is STILL cheaper than that DLC on sale price. FAIL. Utterly pathetic, as is any sub-50% discount.
In fact you’ve actually INCREASED the season pass price! It was 1600MSP when it came out and it’s now £15.99. 1600MSP was £13.49! Pitiful scum.

Piss-poor pricing on Garden Warfare too and I make Wolfenstein’s eventual discount to be about £33.49 (though you’ll probably find some reason to rip us off further). You can get it on disc for £25.

All in all what a terrible week. Get the two BioShock games and the XBLA games if you like although Quake Arena’s online has been dead since launch and DooM 1 and 2 come with DooM 3 BFG Edition, which can be found fairly cheaply.

    • IN_YO_FACE_86

Didn’t you know? M$ think they can fool us with some of these deals, Heck you can get the first 2 BioShock games in a bundle in Game stop or Walmart for a cheaper then what they offer -_-

      • Bennijin

I’m in the UK, we don’t have Gamestop (actually we do but it’s online-only and different) or Walmart (but they do own ASDA).

Your sentiment still stands though, shop around.

  • Gazmaster3D

Great price for PvZ:GW here in the UK. Can’t find it cheaper anywhere else on disc inc pre-owned.

    • Bennijin

It was £19.99 at Grainger Games and another shop I can’t quite recall, but for now you’re right.

  • Josiel Galvao

Wolfenstein still showing 59,99 its just me? :(

    • DarnedNut

Same here but it’s $69.99 here in Canada and I don’t see the discount either :(

      • kiwi

        read….

*This deal is available for Xbox Live Gold & Silver members from July 17th to 20th only

        • DarnedNut

That’s for Xbox 360 discounts, It says now through 21 for Xbox one…

          • Josiel Galvao

no, there’s a asterisk for wolf too :(

          • DarnedNut

Asterisk? is that the star beside it? I guess I’ll wait for when the discount does happen..

          • kiwi

Discounts are valid now through 21 July 2014 unless otherwise indicated with (*). and Wolfenstein has a * ;)

        • Guest

          just for quake and doom

    • deadbox102

      Sale hasn’t started yet.

    • Paul

They were sly if you look at it there’s a * next to it and Doom and Quake look at the small print, Game on sale to sliver and Gold members 17th July to 20th July.
I almost bought doom at £3.39 thinking it was the sale price. Major Nelson this should of been posted on a different post as
      1) the games are not on sale yet were the others are
      2) this post is Deals with Gold these games are for sliver and gold members so there for should be on a different post

  • deadbox102

FlatOut, Apache, Kameo, Blazing Angels and the Sniper series. These are just a few suggestions of games I would like to see with DWG.

    • Some guy

      Oh I’d love Apache.

  • FiveMagic5

The only thing on this list that I didn’t already have was Plants Vs. Zombies, which I just bought, so let’s see how it plays, if you have the game you should add me
    GT: FiveMagic5

    • http://ryan.snook.us/ Snook

You don’t have PvZ but you just bough it? Time traveler?

      • FiveMagic5

        Huh?

        • Ross Kemp

          There is no ” Huh? ” , needed .
Re – read your post carefully and then re – read the post by Snook .
          All will become apparent .

          • FiveMagic5

I did, and perhaps you should do the same.

          • Ross Kemp

Ahhh , you edited it to read correctly .
            Nicely nicely .

  • Dylan

I’d like to have seen a sale for Wolfenstein 2009 to be honest. Always wanted to give it a try. Especially before starting the new one (which I heard was excellent, but then again, it’s made by former Starbreeze guys so of course it’s good).

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

imagine call of duty controls (literally) with ghosts and such. it is not that good to me.

    • IN_YO_FACE_86

Sorry but M$ likes to recycle deals.

  • Hugoku

@MajorNelson:disqus You have all of these games on sale. Ultimate Sales even, with a huge amount of titles to choose from. I won’t argue about quality, just sheer quantity.

Where does MS expect us to store all this content? Do they not want our money?

    Unlock the 360 storage!

    • Professor Oak

They do want your money. They want you to buy their hard drives

      • GamerResentment

That is a good point that I didn’t see. Kudos sir/ma’am! Now give me my Pikachu!

    • Sunset

Over priced hard drives and over priced digital content. If you plan on buying a Xbox one then get used to bending over grabbing your ankles and taking it right up the ol whazoo. Trust me you will argue about quantity. They like it hard and deep. And no lube :0

      • Professor Oak

Xbox One allows for External Drives over 256 GB

      • Nick Peck

Hope you say the same about Sony’s and Nintnedos digital stores as they charge the same prices. If you don’t like it, don’t use it and act like it isn’t even there.

    • GamerResentment

3rd party 500gb hard drives on ebay. Don’t need hacked or modded hard drive, just make sure to read description so you don’t purchase the jtag console only ones. Been using mine for almost a year.

    • Paul

They want you to delete some of your older games then if you want to play it at a later date you just download it again. 250GB can store a lot of games most people will only play 4 or 5 games at a time may be not even that many

    • cortez

yeah and while they are at it, they should make the live update for individual games permanent so we don’t have to reinstall update 3 month later in order to play dlcs again.

  • Jeremiah

All I want from this list is DOOM 1 & 2 and I cant even purchase it until the 17th WTF Microsoft?

    • Peter

Yeah tease us for 1-2 days over oldie doom 1 and 2

    • GamerResentment

Just buy doom 3 bfg edition (if you want) it comes with doom 1, 2 , 3 and it’s respective dlc and “lost” chapters.

  • Harold Rivera

The Meh in this sale is to damn high!!!!

    • GamerResentment

      It’s so high! It’s….it’s…..ITS OVER 9000!!!!

  • Peter

Agreed nothing to see here if all bioshocked out. Bad when an old doom and wolfenstein need to be teased in advance

  • FiveMagic5

Well I just maxed out my XBOX 360 HDD, now what?

    • Some guy

Well, the good thing is you don’t have to buy anything right away, you’ll get the same sale every month.
The only option to have more external stoage is to hack your 360 or wait for MS to do what hackers did years ago.

      • Death Dealer

It’s totally bizarre there aren’t any 500GB+ HDDs out there when there are hacked ones that don’t even require system modification to use.
A 500GB security sector got leaked a little while ago and now these drives are popping up everywhere but officially from MS.

        • Some guy

You can bet a 1TB HDD by MS would cost more then a xbone.

          • Death Dealer

            ;)

    • Professor Oak

Buy another HDD or some 32GB Flash Drives

    • Does Not Equal

      I don’t know.

      • Ross Kemp

        That’s fascinating .

    • Elan Gabriel

      Delete stuff

    • GamerResentment

Buy a 3rd party 500gb HDD from ebay ($60 or $70 or something like that) (read description as to not make the purchase of jtag console only ones) then split the storage between the 2 HDDs. You don’t need modded or hacked console for the 3rd party ones. Games you don’t like or are only ok on one HDD and games you like and love on the other.
That’s what I’m doing buuuuut I’m running outta space in both haha

  • マリオ

I know I’m like the only person in the world who thinks this, but I’ve never been able to fully get into the Bioshock series. If I could I would gift my Bioshock 2 and Infinite to someone who would actually play them.

I’ll probably blow some money on Wolfenstein and Doom even though I know I’m not going to play them.

How stupid am I? I’ve talked myself out of it. I’m not buying anything. I’m going to download Battleblock Theater and not play that.

For my birthday month of August, give me Bayonetta or Metal Gear Rising free and put the other one on sale.

    • ImTheMetalLord

I’m the same. I own Bioshock 1 and 2 that I bought on Steam over a year ago and I never got into it either. So you are not the only person.

    • GamerResentment

I am ok with the first bioshock but man it overstays it welcome with me towards the end. 2 I never played, and infinite I hated and think it was overrated by a lot.
I wanna pick up bayonetta as well. You should give blacklist a try. Revengeance is kinda ugly but if you get past that, it’s hella fun. Beat it about 8 times. Just gotta beat on Revengeance difficulty now :)

      • Nick Peck

I loved the first game since it was such a departure from most shooters at the time. Cool story and idea. The 2nd game wasn’t all that great, I love how you were a bid daddy yet you would die in like 2-3 hits… made no sense.

The 3rd game I enjoyed a bit but I agree about it being overrated. It was fun but nothing spectacular imo.

    • Some guy

Only played the first Bioshock, the feeling was nice but the gameplay was off so I never liked the game.
      I’m more of a serious sam/painkiller guy.

  • Danny Fuchs

Can we please get a 500 gig hardrive for 360? We would buy more stuff

    • ryder4life22187

      500gb is a joke. Id take a 1TB to 2TB

      • GamerResentment

Replying to you as well in case your interested, been running a 3rd party 500gb HDD for almost a year. From ebay. Just gotta make sure it’s not from the company that makes em for jtags only. I can find you the vendor if you want.

        • ryder4life22187

thanks for the info. Had no idea this option was available. Now I just need to find a empty hdd case for the old phat xboxs

        • http://www.kevin-fell.co.uk/ Kevin Fell

          Hi Mate,

Would it be possible to look up the vendor or the details of the one you have?

I’m screaming out for a 1TB+ drive atm but I’ll settle for anything larger than 320gb.

          - Kevin.

    • GamerResentment

There are third party 500gb internal hard drives that you can buy on ebay (1 vendor sells for jtag consoles only, another for normal slims so be sure to read description). I have been running mine for almost a year now. About $60 or $70 I believe and runs like a real HDD but as ryder4life said, you will probably actually need 1Tb (I am using both my 320 and 500 and am running outta space). There aren’t 3rd party ones of that calibur though. I can probably get you the vendors name if you want.

      • Death Dealer

Because there aren’t any security certificates for it and thus an Xbox 360 will not recognize the drive. The 500GB one got leaked some time ago (which is strange that MS isn’t making one themselves). Like I’ve been saying all along, the sizes were arbitrary limitations imposed by MS, probably because the Xbox One only ships with 500GBs and they wouldn’t want to make it look poor in that department compared to their last generation offering (MS should have just made that drive replaceable instead of fixed when it can still be done by opening the system). The FATX file system on the Xbox 360 allows partition sizes up to two Terabytes in size and no doubt the memory unit/USB sizes are artificial as well. No doubt certificates for those sizes will leak at some point as well.
The third party offerings are a good deal though and won’t get people banned if that’s what they are thinking. The certificate even works on 7200rpm drives and will speed up the Xbox 360. It’s a shame MS didn’t listen to us about this before (we’ve been asking FOR AGES), now hackers have taken opportunity away from them.

  • maxy

Great deals, I suppose, but I won’t buy anything, because my wallet needs a breath from the Ultimate sale.

    • Ross Kemp

      That’s sweet .

    • llortretsam

You messed that sentence up, take out the word “wallet” and replace it with “b Hole”, there it’s fixed.

      • maxy

        How about close your hole?

      • Ross Kemp

        Haha .
        It’s funny because it’s true .

  • chris

Xbox support sucks. Tried to get them to look into why METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES was not on sale in Australia while the sale was on and they just stuff me around and tell me to do stuff that does not help. I chat to xbox support today and told them about all this and they cant do anything, so annoying.

    • maxy

What did you except? To put it on sale after the sale finished? By the way you aren’t blind to read that small print aren’t you? Please note: prices and availability are subject to change and may vary by region.

      • chris

If the game was available to buy in my region then it should have been discounted. I also know it would not be the same price America gets.

        • maxy

Its says Please note: PRICESSS and availability are subject to change and may vary by region.

          • chris

Availability – was able to purchase in my region.
Price – was priced more in my region.
I know this, but it said nothing about the sale discount.

          • Ross Kemp

Do not argue with maxy .
Widely regarded as the biggest MS pony on this blog .

          • chris

            Alright then.

          • maxy

Look who is talking! The biggest ps pony in the blog! And I already told you what consoles I own so your statement is invalid.

          • maxy

Well, it says that prices and discounts vary by region that means might not every country have the same dicounts and sales.

          • chris

It said prices and availability vary by region, but nothing about discount.

          • maxy

Seriously why the hell you bother, if you can’t understand. Sales and Discounts are same words.

          • llortretsam

Yeah, the prices and availability are subject to change and may vary by region note is only for the initial price and availability of the games, if it’s available in your region then it should had seen a discount, maxy is just reading between lines and trying to justify it, he gets upset if you claim Microsoft did something wrong, even if it’s something as small as this.

          • maxy

You are so stupid as him. Period.

          • Ross Kemp

            That’s magnificent .

          • Ross Kemp

            That’s sublime .

          • Ross Kemp

            That’s wonderful .

      • Ross Kemp

        That’s fascinating .

        • maxy

          Yeah okay fuc*ing spammer!

          • Ross Kemp

            That’s wonderful .

    • Peter

Stop whining its what women and liitle children do not men. It says clear as day subject to region availability. If you dont like it why not move to the usa? Freedom democracy oh and the same xbox deals as us

      • cortez

wow the double edges of shameless entitlement. you got to love it.

      • Elan Gabriel

Why would he want to move into a country [supposedly] full of men like you, who thinks women and children are “whiners” ? (and “freedom” ? give me a break… )

    • Some guy

Well, it took them 15 hours to fix the price of peggle 2 while being aware of the problem, it takes a month when they don’t.

      • cortez

Ok whats the deal with Peggle 2, its like everybody want it like its free pizza, all i see is a repetitive mobile game.

        • Some guy

I don’t like it much either, it’s fun to play a couple of games when you have nothing to do but that’s it. I prefer Heavy Weapon.

    • Nick Peck

Trust me, paying for ground zeroes is a waste of money. They actually did you a favor imo :p Sorry to hear about the problem though, that sucks.

    • Jared

MGSVGZ Suck men not even a 1 hour long game so there.

    • Paul

Metal gear solid v ground zeroes was on sale in the US only

  • cortez

Most of you bad mouth BS 2 a lot.I think bioshock 2 is way better than 1, gameplay wise it was the most superior and i think most people feign hate because thier man-crush Ken Levine didn’t make it which shows because the story was more straight forward without the artsy fatsy grant homage to Ary Rand philosophical treatment of objectivity bull that was the hipster fad that year.

    • Jim Charette

I liked it better also and actually enjoyed the MP aspect of it too. I got alot of great matches late in Bio2′s life-cycle

  • m1nh0ca

THIS is how to make a promotion for XOne: CoD Ghosts for $5,99. Assassin’s Creed IV for $9,99.

    http://www(dot)totalxbox(dot)com/79394/xbox-one-sale-call-of-duty-ghosts-for-599-assassins-creed-4-for-999-more/

New customers only, however… but, damn, even the full price is way cheaper than the deals provided by MS.

    • FiveMagic5

Has anybody bought from this yet? I want to but it seems sketchy..

      • m1nh0ca

Yeah, later I read some reviews and comments… that’s a pity.

It’s weird that a website like Total Xbox is publishing this kind of news, almost sponsoring scammers :-/

        • FiveMagic5

Yeah I almost trusted it up until I read the comments on the page and then they updated the article with a note saying it could be a scam

  • cortez

according to xbldb, they is a price drop for metro ll and catherine, two really good games.

    • ImTheMetalLord

      And Dead Island Riptide.

      • cortez

i think deep silver are dropping their prices

      • http://www.carincress.com/ Xenmic

I should’ve grabbed this when it was on sale and missed it. I hope it’s on again.

    • Some guy

Neat, now they only cost 10$ more than the disk version.

      • IN_YO_FACE_86

That right there is what makes it funny.LOL!!

  • Luis Cajigas

with this possibly being the last year Microsoft gonna support the 360. We should be getting better deals on big hit games and games that have sequels coming to only next gen. and even a full week where we get a season pass sale.

    • Sabih Ijaz

Don’t worry. Support should last until 2016.

    • ImTheMetalLord

Last I heard/read was that MS will give us at least 2 years notice before they stop supporting the 360. So that means if tomorrow they announce it then they would support it through mid 2016 at a minimum and considering that the 360 is outselling the X1 right now I don’t think they will abandon all those new customers so quickly.

      • AC130

Last I heard it would be 5 years of support for the 360 once the One launched. Then that would be it.

        • ImTheMetalLord

If that’s true then we are looking for support through almost the end of 2018. Hmmm maybe we both are right and we will get a final notice in 2016.

      • http://www.carincress.com/ Xenmic

Well said……and I agree they’d be silly to abandon the 360

  • ImTheMetalLord

Looks like the sales that are to start on the 17th are starting to kick in.

  • Jaedre

Is this for digital download or disc only?

    • Nate

Digital download only. If you’re wanting disc, you’re likely to find these cheaper elsewhere.

  • ImTheMetalLord

Does anyone know if Quake Arena has any single player aspect? I think it don’t but of half a fin I’ll pick it up even if it’s just a short single player game.

    • Death Dealer

It has a botmatch single player “campaign”.

    • http://www.carincress.com/ Xenmic

Pretty sure like Death Dealer said, there’s a bot match and you can level up but not 100% sure, I’m probably going to grab it tonight. May be hard to find people to play but I love the old style Quake.

  • Jose Serrano

Hey Major Nelson, I’ve been a Xbox supporter since 2007 , I’ve turned gamers from PlayStation to Xbox by the hundreds because I’m a best buy employee…can you keep that wolfestein game on sale for a couple more days :-)

    • Professor Oak

      Probably won’t happen.
