EA Access Launches Today on Xbox One

Electronic Arts recently announced and rolled out a beta version of its Xbox One-exclusive EA Access program, a subscription-based service that gives members unlimited access to EA’s cutting-edge gaming library, discounts on all digital content and early access to a variety of EA’s upcoming titles, for a modest monthly (or annual) fee.

Today, EA Access launches for all Xbox One owners, with Battlefield 4, FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, and Peggle 2 debuting in The Vault. EA Access members also receive 10% off digital purchases including full games like the upcoming Madden NFL 15 or Dragon Age Inquisition as well as purchases in FIFA Ultimate Team or on new map packs for Battlefield. Plus, EA Access members have the opportunity to try new EA titles five days ahead of retail launch – only on Xbox One.

Learn more about EA Access over on Xbox Wire, or sign up directly at the EA Access web portal.

got the year sub in the preview.. i discovered Peggle 2 thanks to this service! what an addictive and awesome game

+ early access to games + 10% off all purchases. great deal i think. i bought it as a tester for a year and so far so good

  • todd Wright

Thank you xbox for giving me the choice of whether or not i wanted this awesome service <3

    • Brad

When you’re desperate, you’ll do anything. Pretty soon the XB1 dash will be nothing but spyware.

      • todd Wright

spyware that you cant use keep bitching

      • MobileVortex

^^ the downs are strong with this one.

  • digitallife

It’s a great service is you buy 2 or more EA games per year, you know the regular yearly franchises. It’s an interesting concept that would be awesome with large studios. Wish they had given us a month membership with the beta testing tho..would have more to say.

  • Dylan

For fans of demos, this EA access stuff killed them. That is, according to Polygon.

Hopefully the service can make up for that.

    • Brad

Yeah I saw that on NeoGaf as well. This is a bad move for EA (removing demos) and more reason why I support Sony for not picking up the service. It’s garbage.

The only game worth the subscription is BF4 and you WILL have to have XB Gold access to enjoy the game. Multiplayer is where it’s at as the campaign is over in a few hours. Maybe that’s why Sony was selling BF4 premium this past week for $30…

      • drakejr

Which demo did they remove? The demo for BF? Doesn’t exist. The demo for Madden on PS4 and XBO? Doesn’t exist. The Peggle demo? Doesn’t exist. The Fifa demo? Still around.

        • dibils

it is incredibly funny how neogaf and all anti EA/MS people have twisted the no Madden demo announcement lol

    • drakejr

Polygon had already editorialized that they were against the service and completely misconstrued what was happening in the most sensational way possible.

Tell me, did EA access prevent a PS4 and XBO demo last year? The answer is no, because there wasn’t one.

Demos are becoming less common with respect to nearly every publisher. EA is providing a unique alternative.

      • ElektroDragon

You are a corporate shill extraordinaire. You’re basically saying lack of demos is a good thing.

      • Michael Burden

And along those same lines, the EA Season Ticket (which this program evolved from) has been around for several years offering early access to games before release – yet we still had demos that whole time. Just because a developer (Tiburon) decides their time and money is better spent on improving the game that working on a demo should in no way signal that the EA Access is going to replace demos or betas – which has been clearly stated by EA representatives as well.

  • Adam Moores

Is it possible to pay for a subscription using my Xbox Live Balance or do i need to make a payment directly to EA

    • JohnnyXB1

no , you need to use credit card (((

  • The Anonymous Doctor

Now all I need is an Xbox One.

  • luke cooper

just got my subscription amazing value considering battlefield 4 is £29.99 pre-owned at my local game store and never tried peggle for only £20 a year im so happy with this

  • PrinceOfEden

Well this sucks, they won’t allow you to use the money already on your account, meaning credit
cards only. Which wouldn’t be a issue but my account has been glitched
when it comes to paying with information for a while, and Xbox support has been no help.

    So no games for me
until they allow you to sign up through their website, or allow you to
pay with the money on your account.

The link to sign on on their website is somewhat of a trap, it only signs you up for a newsletter.

  • EldritchWarlord

I would sign up for this service in a heartbeat if EA would commit to all their future Xbox One games being available. I would hate to sign up for that half-price DA:I only to find out later that the new Battlefront and/or Mirror’s Edge 2 won’t be on EA Access.

    • digitallife

That is a very good and valid point…one I hadn’t thought of. That’s a serious piece of information to consider. Let’s hope it’s not limited to games that lose value quickly such as madden entries.

  • Gazmaster3D

Easy choice to sign up. I wanted BF4 and haven’t played Madden in years plus discounts on future digital releases. All for just under £20, which is less than I spend on coffee in a week.

    • Senses Failed

My daily regular costa black americano costs £2.10, i feel your pain

  • ElektroDragon

Notice they put Dragon Age on there, but only mention a discount on purchasing it. They fool you into thinking Dragon Age will be one of the included “plan” games and I guarantee you it won’t until at least a year after it comes out. I guess once it gets more games it might be a cheap way to boost my gamerscore while all the serious playing happens on the other console.

    • MobileVortex

The only people they are “tricking” are the ones who dont know how to read…

    • drakejr

Deliberately understanding things in the worst possible way is choosing to be stupid. Stop.

      • ElektroDragon

No. If you just look at the picture and don’t bother to read closely (i.e. MOST PEOPLE) you’re going to think Dragon Age is going to be included day one and buy the service, which is exactly what EA wants you to think.

        • drakejr

          1) If you look at the pictures it doesn’t tell you anything about the service, it simply says EA Access and shows a number of games, what would make you draw any conclusions about anything? You are deliberately making the stupidest possible assumption. Willful stupidity is still stupidity.

          2) If you click through, there are photos of the games in the vault for “visual learners” such as yourself.

Once again, don’t be devoted to being a dolt. It is unbecoming.

          • ElektroDragon

You’re right. But I was going with the theme of “EA is the most hated company in the America”.

          • drakejr

Moving from an indefensible position to a troll position is just pathetic.

          • ElektroDragon

OK, so all news outlets that reported EA as #1 most hated or top 10 most hated are also all just trolling.

  • robert

Can we get it set up to pay with Microsoft money please.

    • ElektroDragon

EA doesn’t want your Microsoft money. :)

    • digitallife

Your subscription isn’t a payment to microsoft it goes directly to EA, Microsoft makes it’s money on the discounted games you buy as a part of your subscription.

      • savaman2002

The payment goes go directly to MS. It’s processes is the Xbox One Marketplace. But you can’t currently use the MS funds on your account due it being a ongoing service. If you don’t want to use a card they are going be offer codes in retail stores.

        • robert

I’m looking to buy a code but so far no look in uk stores .

          • savaman2002

Since it’s a brand new service… probably going to be a while. Go to EA Access site and follow the info there.

  • aka del72

i got it about a week ago with the preveiw program ,4 euro for 4 games i didnt have ,it was a bargin, now i just need to learn to play fifa

  • Guest

It looks like a good deal, BUT, I’m not buying into it yet. I got burned with CoD: Elite in the past. First it included all the maps for the CoD games (being a glorified season pass that I was OK with), then the year after it required to be purchased separately from the season pass and its maps, which made the service useless (and made it fail after that IMO because they were greedy aholes). I’ll wait a year and see if this doesn’t screw us over like Elite did. Don’t care about there being no more demos though, there weren’t many demos for EA games in the past and I’m not a NeoGAF loser at real life.

    • Guest

Hahaha indeed, the $0N¥ losers there even spread the BS lie that MS lost $400 million with the Xbox One and it’s just been properly exposed by Neowin.
The hilariousness comes from the fact that business sites like Forbes and Business Weekly have PoS bloggers that copy-paste that BS and make articles about it stating it as truth.
N4G, NeoGaf and VGChartz are sites that need their entire wannabe prophet without any proof communities burned to the ground. They’re not gamers, they’re media manipulators and a cancer to the gaming industry and many low IQ people eat thyose fale truths like candy.

      • Senses Failed

        Truth

  • Ross Kemp

Allow us to pay/sub with monies already on our MS acc .
I have X amount of credit on there , and would of bought it in a heartbeat ( mainly more so if Plants vs Zombies and UFC were a valid option ) .
Please look into paying via our MS credit .

    • digitallife

the payment is directly to EA not MS, Ms only collects money on the discounted games you buy using that subscription. XBL is only a gateway…if MS collected on that subscription payment it would certainly not be as low as $29.99 a year

      • Rudy Bienaime

Can’t pay via debit card either

        • aka del72

think i read if its a visa debit card you can

          • Rudy Bienaime

Nope… Just tried my debit card visa logo… Not working… Guess EA don’t want our money

          • Gazmaster3D

Or your bank don’t want you to spend it.

          • skunk73

            my visa debit worked fine

          • Rudy Bienaime

Shoot I have a greendot visa debit

        • digitallife

Debit cards aren’t always supported for recurring payments…if you are doing the one month thing that may be why.

          • Rudy Bienaime

            Tried the 12 month

          • digitallife

might be due to the updates launched today, try buying from the xbox website instead

          • digitallife

good luck and check under settings to see if you have a firmware update, i got one this morning

          • Rudy Bienaime

May have gotten it but I don’t know…

      • Jan Václavík

I am pretty sure they could work something out.

  • Ricky

I paid with visa debit worked fine. I used to have a visa electron which was a little hit and miss online. I’m sure you’re local store will start selling EA access subsciptions

  • ChrisC99

10% off all digital purchases of new games is a joke. So you save $6 on a new game that you have to get digitally. If you bought the disc at full price, a year from then you can resell it for $15 – $20 easily. Now if you enjoy digital and hate discs then sure, not bad.

    • Ricky

You won’t get 15-20 for fifa in the UK you’ll be lucky to get 5 after 1year. However retail games are normally cheaper than on the console. If Xbox want to take digital seriously they should price match and/or allow you to ‘trade in’ digital games for a competitive value. removing the right to access the game. and freeing up cash to buy another digital purchase

      • ChrisC99

I got $15 for Madden, $26 for Fifa + $15 extra for trading in 2 games. Seems better than $6 a game. Now granted this is right before the new ones come out but close enough for me.

        • Ricky

fifa hasn’t been out for one year… once it has and fifa 15 is out the price drops off. this is in the UK where everyone has a copy already.

        • Michael Burden

How is it better when you no longer have those games that I am sure you paid a lot more for than that? Now if you invested that money into EA Access for a year, you’d still have access to those game plus two others, get a discount on the new FIFA, play it early and still have some of the money left over to put against the purchase.

          • ChrisC99

I never have wanted to go back and play old sports games with old rosters. Main reason is every year or two a major feature comes in to these games. I don’t want to go back and not have a feature.

    • dibils

      digital or GTFO

support the devs not gamespot or GAME etc. screw used market

      • http://www.doblu.com/ Matt Paprocki

Yeah! Burn the libraries too! Giving away those free books. And thrift stores! All those used goods being sold without fund being funneled back to the makers. It’s almost like everything has a used market. Oh the horror!

        • drakejr

Yeah and all those other things nobody was talking about! Stop being deliberately obtuse.

          • http://www.doblu.com/ Matt Paprocki

Games are not special nor separate from any other used market.

          • ImTheMetalLord

Why yes they are different then what you are comparing them to. Compare them to Music or Movies or books which have moved into a primarily digital content business model. And the pricing of these has dropped when the consumers started accepting that model. Much like PC gaming.

      • Digiadam

        Fool

      • Mando44646

When they charge fair prices for digital,I will! Until then, no way

      • ChrisC99

Real solution is digital tier is $40.

      • Guest

Indeed, FRACK retail. Then can go out of business for al I care with their PoS practices making money of used games and royally scruwing devs and publishers.

  • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

I’m most likely going to pick this up in November when dragon age is set to come out just to get to play it 5 days early.. but I own battlefield and I’m not a fan of football or soccer so the games don’t really appeal to me yet.

  • CXK

Once the games appeal more to me, I could see myself getting this. Its a cool service and I hope Xbox or more publishers do some sort of “rental” system where we just download. An all you can eat model is excellent too.

    • drakejr

Sony has a rental option, but it charges exorbitant prices to stream games for even a 1 hour rental.

      • lassenwolf

Yeah I agree but theres already 127 games. Sony doesn’t have anything to do with price unless its a Sony game. But Sony has made it clear they are doing a subscription also. The service works great . Ive been in the beta all year

        • Jan Václavík

Some of the most expensive games are from Sony, though.

          • drakejr

But they have no choice in the matter, they just provide the service and control the platform. If anything they are the victims here. That’s why the Sony Defense Force is here to protect them.

  • LLSMUVG

I got the service, and it plays great! Now, I will return my fifa 14, and preorder Fifa 15 with whatever I get from EB GAmes/Gamestop. score! #winwin

    • Jan Václavík

Still cheaper than the digital copy even with those 10 percent off?

  • Vince

This is all great, but I prefer physical copies. I’ll pass.

  • Joshua Mason

Was getting error that implied servers were down (shocking I know) and now all I get is a continuous loading screen. Nice job ea.

  • Francisco Valencia

Awesome! Absolutely awesome! Digital format with lower prices is the future, like Steam.

  • John Smith

Anyone know if we will still get demos? I don’t buy a game unless i like the demo.

  • Carnage Rules

Major, are you aware that money in your Microsoft account can’t be used to pay the subscription fee, is this an error and will it get fixed?

    • Gazmaster3D

Curios if you can buy a Netflix sub with your MS cash?

    • That80sGuy

Ea and Microsoft are different companies. So no you can’t use your Microsoft account. Credit card or purchase a membership from GameStop.

      • Carnage Rules

There is a section in the terms of service for EA ACCESS that talks about the use of Xbox gift cards section 16.1. I believe

        • Gazmaster3D

EA access FAQ states ”At the moment, we can only accept credit card and PayPal payments for EA Access membership.”

          • Carnage Rules

yeah, I read that, hopefully that gets updated to accept MS money ASAP because I have too much of it

    • bickle2

No, it’s not an error. It’s in their FAQ.

I did the same thing and now I’m stuck

The likely answer is “Microsoft will take 30% if we allow checkout with MSP, and until we negotiate a better rate you’re stuck”

  • Digiadam

EA….voted worst company many times, pulls DRM BS like crazy.

    Do not support this company.

  • omiaho

EA no chance! This EA access is there way of milking money out of gamers more. For example you pay monthly/yearly subscription for a few games and get early access to upcoming EA games (these are not added to the EA Access bundle), after 6 months or so they will get added. 10% discount can be used on purchases, no thanks at the moment the Xbox One UK pricing for digital content is just ridiculous. How do you expect people to move to digital when physical cost cheaper? EA haven’t even fixed the Battlefield 4 campaign save data problem yet!

However I will await for Microsoft Family Sharing.

    • aka del72

i just finished the single player on bf4 last night and i didnt have any problems with save data

      • omiaho

No sign of it being fixed. Me and my brother played the game just about 3 weeks ago and we didn’t finish the entire campaign in one go. We had campaign data lost over two times. EA games have the worse support.

    • Michael Burden

The campaign data delete problem was fixed months ago.

      • omiaho

No sign of it being fixed. Me and my brother played the game just about 3 weeks ago and we didn’t finish the entire campaign in one go. We had campaign data lost over two times. EA games have the worse support.

        • Michael Burden

I beg to differ. I initially had this bug during the first couple of months, but have progressed in the campaign with absolutely no save issues since that time (and am referring to the One version to be clear). So I am calling BS on your claims.

  • Mando44646

That’s not a bad deal at all, especially coming from EA. However, I wish EA published more games I’d play. I don’t sportsball or play military shooters so not much for me unfortunately. I own Peggle and Dragon Age is the only other EA game this year I’m even planning to get

  • Phil Mann

I wish we could give everyone a test when they turn 16 and execute all the morons… But seeing the EA access sub fee? Doesn’t look to bad for a rental service. $2.80 after taxes a month after taxes? Seeing all the poor ppl crying Waahhhh…I can’t afford less that is too much..ea sucks cause you can’t afford?

    • DarnedNut

lol I guess we have a highroller troll on here…
Not everyone is rich but EA doesn’t suck because of people cant afford it, EA is ok but it’s just that they’ve had a bad rep lately.
With what them making games a lot of the time with bad fixes and lots of problems,
I don’t have anything against this whole thing except the games aren’t worth it to me anyways as I’ve already got BF4 and I’m not into sports,
Maybe in the future I might try it though.

      • Areen Khachadouri

true but if you own a gaming system and you are complaining about 30 dollars, you should even own it.

  • Stu 7005

Major I can’t join even though I added $30 to my microsoft account. Will this be fixed otherwise there will be no way I can join EA Access as I don’t have a credit card?

    • kurd

      having the same problem

    • DoublyDoodads

You’ll be able to buy an Access card at Gamestop.

    • maascourt13 .

      having the same problem

  • Vinícius D’Luca

EA Access is a good deal, I hope it’ll be released in brazil.

  • Reinier Martinez

I can guarantee this will be a great success for EA, most of you are “hardcore” gamers and buy your favorite franchises yearly just for the sake of it but for most gamers having the option to pay $30 a year for an always growing catalog of “old games” (if you can call a less than a year old game OLD) is of great value. Plus, you have the convenience of digital media which was one of the main features of the “original” Xbox One.

Now, if you don’t see any value on this why come here and make a fuss nobody cares about? You love it, fine. You hate it, fine too! See, nobody cares if you like it of not and EA will make tons of money which makes me really happy because they’ll put even better games on the Vault and part of that money also goes into making more games that will be added later on to the Vault. Everybody wins here.

Thanks a lot EA, you just got $30 from me. :)

    • Some guy

It’s a really good deal, too bad I hate EA for killing everything they touch.

  • James RAW

Hey guys does anyone know if when you download an early access version , say of NHL15 then you wish to purchase the full version it doesn’t require you to download the ENTIRE game again? Hope this makes sense.

    • ImTheMetalLord

It sounds that way to me. At least that is the way I understand it will work.

      • James RAW

hoping so… thanks for the reply :)

    • http://www.kevin-fell.co.uk/ Kevin Fell

If you install a game from disc and then buy the digital version you dont need to reinstall, it just unlocks it. I’d assume this will work in the same way. Interested to know given the game downloads on the xb1 are so large.

      • Lucky13X

It does work this way. I owned Battlefield 4, and tried downloading the digital vault version to try it out and now I no longer need to place my BF4 disk in my tray since I have the digital version.

    • Michael Burden

It will just unlock, whether you buy digitally or on disc. EA did state this in the FAQs for the program.

  • http://danielbogni.wordpress.com/ Daniel Bogni

    nothing in Brazil… man… it’s really sad.

    • Joelson Ferreira

      yeap…

  • Fingleberries

    Great Stuff.
I already owned two of the games in the Vault (FIFA and Peggle), but instantly signed up for the Year … €24.99 for Battlefield 4 and Madden 25? Yes, please.

  • Nick King

    Well worth the £20.

  • Bk

Trying to figure out why I cant use money that i have in my Microsoft account. It makes me use Paypal or credit card. Yeah the makes a lot of sense.

  • WARLORD

If This proves successful others will follow and gamers will end up with a large
monthly bill from subscribing to every individual games company. They’ll
also be unable to lend, borrow or trade physical copies of the games
which will lead to the dissolving of the second hand market.
This would be no different to what Microsoft tried. I can only hope
that gamers don’t sleepwalk into the same scenario under a different
guise that they so ardently rejected first time around. Gamers need to
    be
aware of where it will lead. I thought Microsoft had learned their
lesson from their own DRM fiasco but evidently not. I feel a bit stupid
    to be surprised they’ve
allowed this but any misplaced trust I had in them has completely
dissolved. I don’t own a Xbox One as of yet and the chances of me doing
so have decreased dramatically as a direct result of this move which I
will not contribute to in any way, shape or form.

    • EldritchWarlord

I can’t possibly see how one could honestly characterize Microsoft as the villain for allowing their customers other options in how to pay for games.

Personally I think that the original outrage was mostly misinformation leading to irrational hysteria. However anyone who did find the new policies genuinely unappealing would have had no other options as an Xbox One owner. In this case however no one is forcing anything, merely allowing an alternative for those who may be interested.

    • Guest

Did you really think MS was the one that came up with the DRM in the first place? NOPE, it was a push from the publishers and EA was no doubt the biggest one behind it. Your scenario (or rather Jim Sterling’s one) is going to happen now. Instead of one DRM system with an online check once in a while it’s going to be multiple DRM systems that cost a lot more money.
Just be glad it’s an option for now.

  • glynn cocker

ea access dou get the full game for £3.99 a month or just a demo?

    • http://www.Bl4ckSh33p.de/ Bl4ckSh33p

Its the full game (from the vault).

  • gavin carroll

Is this worth it. Im on verge of purchasing . advice welcome

  • thenuttyprof

Xbox support on twitter told me you can not use funds in your Microsoft account for subscriptions, that is why you have to pay by card or paypal. They said the same rules apply for EA Access as it does for Xbox Live subscription.

  • http://www.twitch.tv/modvs moDVS (^-^)

So for $30 a year I can download the full game of any or all of the games in the vault ?

    • loprojoe

Yep. Even if you only want one game in the vault (like myself with BF4), it pretty much pays for itself right out of the gate. And it gets me to try games I probably would not have otherwise, like FIFA. Plus, get discounts on games you might have bought anyway. If I find out I can use Microsoft funds to pay for games after I pay for subscription I am all in.

  • matthew

Battlefield 4 does not work in the vault on e a access, i have been playing this from the vault for about 2 weeks but today it says do you own this disc now i cant play it all the other games work they say install, its just battlefield, has anyone else had this problem, ea this is shocking.

  • JackPepsi

There is an area in the EA app to “use code” so added £20 with a Microsoft pre-paid card, it adds this to your balance (from within the EA app) but it cannot be used to buy the sub – why does the code work at all if it cannot be used to purchase that service?

It needs to be clear from the outset that you cannot use Xbox/MS pre-paid cards to purchase this service, from what I can make out that “use code” box has no current use, so get rid of it until it does – no retail cards to buy and adding funds via the box doesn’t work.

Luckily had been planning to buy Trials Evolution anyway so not too hard done by.

  • loprojoe

Has anyone made a game purchase from ea access after paying for subscription?
I am wondering if you can use your Microsoft funds to pay for the games?

paid 30$ for a year’s subscription, downloaded BF4. Played for few hours. Next day (today) it’s asking me to buy. Even while im’ in EA Access. Nice job EA. What now i have to pay for it after making it free ?

If my father bought this on his profile, will I able to use his downloaded games too on my own profile?

probably it will works as the same way as downloadable game…all family members can play the games bought by other member

      • LeoKurtz

        I can confirm that.
Anyone can download and play the games in the home console of the EA access member. (My brother bought the ea access membership and I downloaded, and played madden without having him logged in)

Awesome stuff. This was the push for my family to buy our third xbox one (my father’s, after mine, bought day one and my brother’s, bought when they removed the gold requirement for netflix)

i dont understand if you have a membership who cares about buying the games at a discount. Also i hope that they can let you use microsoft points because i put 35 in my account to purchase a year an now it says i cant which pisses me off because i wasted my money

    • Ryan

so i dunno i think this thing is stupid anyone else having trouble using points i mean it should say CANT US POINTS ONLY CREDIT CARD.

What I’m trying to figure out is can you buy games on release date with $ already in your microsoft account? I have $35 already in there and going to add more once Madden15 comes out. Will I be able to use that $ to buy the game? I’ve already purchased the subscription
