Next Xbox One Update Begins Rolling Out Today

Today, we will begin rolling out the next Xbox One system update to fans around the world, which will include improved social features to make sharing your gaming experiences with friends better and easier. These new features are a result of your invaluable feedback, including some of the most requested features seen on Xbox Feedback. You can see some of the new features in the video above.
Here’s the final list of the features rolling out to Xbox One systems starting today and over the next few days:

  • Mobile purchase: One of the most requested features on Xbox Feedback. Using Xbox SmartGlass or on, you can remotely purchase games and Add-on content. No more waiting to begin downloading when you get home – if your console is set to automatically take updates, your console will begin downloading your purchase.
  • Activity feed updates: We’re adding new ways for you to interact with friends in the activity feed. The interface will change to a single column scrolling list that is longer and includes more content. We’ll add the ability to post text to your feed, and to “like” and comment on feed items. You can share game clips and anything else in the feed with friends either publically (to your activity feed) or privately (as an attachment to a message). You’ll also be notified when anyone likes, comments on or shares your items. Each user will get a personal feed on their profile, so you can see what specific friends have been up to. And, with SmartGlass, you can see what your friends have shared to their activity feed and “like” specific posts (additional activity feed support coming in future SmartGlass updates).
  • Low battery notification: You asked for it, now a notification will pop up when your controller battery is getting low.
  • Disable notifications during video: Adding the ability to turn off notifications based feedback we heard from you.
  • Enabling 3D Blu-ray: An update to the Blu-ray player app will enable 3D Blu-ray functionality on Xbox One.
  • Last seen time in Friends list: Direct from Xbox Feedback, the friends list will now show how long it’s been since a friend has been online. For example, “Last seen 20m ago: Forza Motorsport 5.”

Please continue to share your suggestions and recommendations on our dedicated Xbox Feedback site. Your sustained feedback is incredibly valuable and I can’t thank you enough for helping us make Xbox the best place to play. Stay tuned for even more new features headed your way in the coming weeks including more social features and a few new updates for watching TV.

System Update, Xbox One By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • McArtist93

Where’s the one guide support for Ireland?! The only thing I was looking forward to

It’s in the september update I believe, be patient it’s coming mate.

      • McArtist93

They should really state when things have been removed :(

        • MURD3R HE WROTE

I could be wrong about that, but this is the August update list. If you don’t find it, then it’s going to be Sept.

  • Deadly Ed

Nice to see them improving the minor issues.. What i dont understand is why there isnt an avatar marketplace on the xbox one? :S Why has this been completely overlooked? Or am i completely missing something?

agreed. I miss it. Have to go to xbox dot com to buy my avatar stuff now.

    • ImTheMetalLord

Is there a feedback for that on the feedback page…cause if not you ought to start one or it should be up voted like crazy like. I don’t want to buy an X1 and not have all my avatar items transfer over.

      • Deadly Ed

The stuff you already have are available. But you can’t see or buy any of the new stuff.

        • WARLORD

You Have to go to xbox dot com to buy new avatar stuff for xbox one..

    • Swat

Why the hell would you waste cash on something as stupid as Avatars? Nobody cares what your avatar looks like.

      • Deadly Ed

And nobody cares about the opinion of one idiot ;)

        • Digiadam

          LOL!!! Zinged! Well done.

  • ltsJoeMama

Woah. I’m liking the new activity feed update.
Awesome update as a whole. Keep it up, MS.

  • MrBobbo44

I believe I already updated to this most recent update but I’m not seeing the Friends section on the Home screen.

      comes in sept.

  • Prosper Carter

i’m not seeing the new dashboard friend section?whats up with that??

the actual friends section comes in sept.

      • MrBobbo44

Okay, cool, thanks for the info.

      • Jayadub

Unless it doesn’t. Still only available to a small subset even with the Sept. preview.

    • krisow

The Friend Section is coming in 5 September when Xbox One is releasing to the last 13 countries they release that update that day so we get it the same day it is a little easier for Microsoft that way

  • njschultz

Here’s a “hide in plain sight” question: how can you see a listing of the latest (all?) of the XBOX Gold games? Is there a section of the “store” where I can see this? I don’t want to scroll all the games one-by-one to see if it’s an XBOX Gold game.

it’s on the xbox dashboard to the bottom right.

  • Digiadam

    Well it’s about time.

  • Michal

I am in Beta. Thanks for these monthly updates Microsoft, you are really two steps ahead of sony :)

    • Digiadam

It’s actually hilarious that Sony rushed out their 3D patch just shortly after they heard that Xbox was going to release one.

      • Dirk Diggler

Its actually a bit more hilarious that Xbox one needs to get constant patches and updates to get on par with the Xbox 360. Really? Why in the world wasn’t the Xbox one shipped with all of these?

        • Digiadam

In all fairness this is a whole new arch for a console. They are more PC than anything. Guess they needed time to make it work with the new arch.

However I know that’s a weak excuse and you are mostly right….and they still have a long way to go still.

    • CXK

Sony was “ahead” of the Xbox on patching last gen. The PS3’s updates were so awful and fixed nothing that anyone ever really saw that I grew to laugh at my PS3. It didn’t last long in my house. The Xbox’s frequent updates have been great, they happen without me even knowing. I boot up the console and say “WTF? When did the friends section move?” I’m in the Preview Program and really liked that battery warning.

  • Some guy

And to celebrate the update we get an incredible Deal of the week.
We get COD Ghost AND COD MW 3!

  • Bennijin

Xbox 360 “Deals” with Gold include a 50% discount on certain CoD MW3, BLOPS 2 and Ghosts DLCs. Something we’ve all been crying out for, clearly.

Silvers get Yet Another Rockstar Sale with 50-75% off of stuff you already bought when it was on sale one of the other 9001 times.

I can’t be arsed listing it, go look on XBLDB.

    • Chris Hofer

Sigh…I have money in my account to use, and there is hardly anything of interest for me that I don’t already have. This is just disappointing. Clearly, the marketing department doesn’t “get” it. Stop the repeated sales. #EndVent

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

    • Dylan

Meh, the sale needs more NBA 2k Jewelry.

    • Alex Tran

I’m here waiting for all Mass Effect content to be discounted.

  • Liquidfx Xboxdude

ever get the feeling the only people actually working are the interns at microsoft?

    • Patrick

yea they get all the free coffee

    • ImTheMetalLord

ever get the feeling the only people posting comments anymore have something sarcastic to say?

  • Gustavo Leite

So no OneGuide to new countries? That was on the list for August. Disappointing :(

  • Residentsteve01

Wow finally I have the update good stuff I did think I had the new look friends list already but I was wrong.

  • Kazaam

    I have a question, please:

I got the update on ONE and Smart Glass too. How can I buy games over my tablet (only WIFI), with Smart Glass? I didn’t find anything to cklick on to buy a game. Or is this function only for UK and USA, again? I live in Austria.

    • Locke

On the Smart Glass on left side press “Store” tab

      • Kazaam

Thank you so much. Thats realy cool to use.

  • Jez Gregg

For anyone interested I been mesing around and found three options for playing music on x1 whilst playing games digital or physical media.
1st. An audio cd will play using the AUDiO CD app snapped. Then starting a digitally downloaded game such spartan assault/ crimson dragon etc this is the only way you can play a cd and game at the moment.
2nd. You can use the MUSIC app to play the radio channel and pick your own music just search an artist and play, snap the music app and launch any type of game digital or physical. You can use kinnect to do voice commands to play /pause etc or just keep snapping between and use the controller fo control the music.
3rd. My main choice, streaming from any bluetooth music player or phone. Selct your console from the blutooth option on the device to pair it and start playing the MUSIC app will open just snap it , again you can play either digital or physical games this way. You have to use the devices normal media controls to choose music and play pause etc as you cannot use kineect voice commands.

    • Real_Wappy

my question is will it still keep playing if i unsnap it? cause i don’t like the fact that i can’t play my music when it’s in fullscreen mode. :(

      • Jez Gregg

I dont think so cos it would be on the main window and as soonas you open another app it pauses it until you go back to it. It does take a large chunk of the sceen snapped as well

      • Jon Taffer’s Butt Funnel

It doesn’t. I just have a line cable going from the stereo adapter on the controller to my laptop’s mic jack and play my music on the computer with headphones in. Low tech but it works

    • yassine db

How does that 3rd option works. search for Xbox one through Bluetooth?

      • Jez Gregg

Yes i have a htc one m8 and just open my music player tho thinking mine has a send to tv option which picks up the x1

      • Jez Gregg

I was wrong its not doing it thru bluetooth as it was switched when i just tried again just now

  • Mathias Simon

I Guess major doesn´t read its comments. Everybody is commenting here to know why OneGuide for other markets got axed on the last hour or so.. and when will we have it.

Anyways, new stuff is always good, keep em coming. Xbox One clearly represents the best way to go on next-gen.

But majooor… where is our OneGuide? It was suppose to come in august… where???? Thanks and please read.

    • Gustavo Leite

Agreed, are we gonna get the OneGuide on the next one?

      • Mathias Simon

Major? Any good news for us?

  • Howard Longden

Any news for us regarding the update causing the blu ray drive to stop recognizing game discs? It appears to have happened to a lot of people, check out the forums. There is nothing coming from Microsoft in an official capacity. We don’t know whether to send machines back or wait for a patch. Come on MS, give us some kind of idea on what is being done.
I have been on XBox Live 7 years and MS leaving us in the dark is not what I am used to.

    • Jez Gregg

I have had this with blu ray films as well usually just taking it out and re insert once or twice sorts it , not good though thought me drive had failed

    • Jez Gregg

There is a preview program users page on the x b o x l i v e . c o m support forum which handles issues. Sorry for wierd spelling a certain site but it flags the comment for review when i add it in mesages

  • rsqviper

Vamos aguardar a próximo atualização.

  • Rain Park

I have a problem, after update my xbox 1, in the power mode, I can only choice the Energy-saving mode and the instant-on mode is missing. Dose anyone know how to fix it?

  • ltsJoeMama

Microsoft! You guys really need to fix the “time played” feature!!
It says I’ve played 0 minutes of Diablo 3, when I’ve played over 8 hours so far. Same thing applies to my other games. It’s really annoying. Please fix it.
