Xbox at PAX Prime 2014

Labor Day might just mean a long weekend for some, but for gamers, it’s PAX Prime time: four days of games, panels, and camaraderie with our fellow players. As is custom, Xbox has a lot planned – Washington is our home base, after all. Here are some highlights – find the full rundown over at Xbox Wire.

PAX Event

Thursday: ID@Xbox Pre-PAX Open House

PAX doors don’t officially open until Friday, but we know a lot folks get into town early. That’s why we’re inviting everyone over to Microsoft’s Redmond Campus to play some new and upcoming indies on Xbox One. The event starts at 6pm, and we’ll even give you a ride. Find all the details here.

Saturday: Major Nelson Radio at PAX Prime

Sphinx Theatre

Saturday, 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm

For the 10th year in a row, it’s Major Nelson Radio at PAX Prime! Like a fine wine that has gotten better with age, Major Nelson Radio goes down smooth and leaves no bitter aftertaste.

Join Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE’s Major Nelson, e, lollip0p and JEF United as we record an episode of the award winning podcast “Major Nelson Radio” LIVE in front of a studio audience. We will have prizes, guests and probably fun.

Note: Clowns are not permitted at the recording.

Friday-Monday: Visit the Xbox Booth

The Xbox Booth [#412] is the place to play this holiday’s hottest blockbusters! We’ll be featuring hands-on Xbox One exclusives like Sunset Overdrive, remastered Halo 2 Anniversary and Forza Horizon 2, the highly anticipated Electronic Arts title Dragon Age: Inquisition and digital favorites like Ori and the Blind Forest, Killer Instinct, Project Spark, and Project Totem, plus various ID@Xbox titles.

We’re also leading panels, participating in Pinny Arcade, hosting a Halo Tournament with Twitch and giving PAX fans a way to put themselves in the world of Sunset City at the Paramount Theatre. Learn more about these activities plus more at our U.S. Events Website.

To everyone going, have fun! I’ve been gaming for over 20 years now and have never been as excited about gaming as I am for this fall’s lineup (and 2015 too). The conventions all summer have been amazing to follow and this one will be great time, especially with another $10,000 Halo 2: Anniversary tournament going on.

    • Mitchell Hall

Agreed :) this fall + next February are some of the most exciting times I can ever remember in gaming for myself personally.

      • Ross Kemp

        Care to elaborate ?

        • Mitchell Hall

Sure! Games like destiny, NHL, alien isolation, middle earth shadow of mordor, dragon age inquisition, ac unity, far cry 4 sunset overdrive, forza horizon, drive club, halo MC collection all before the end of the year… then the first few months of next year has one of my absolute most anticipated games the Witcher 3, then there’s batman arkham knight ad well.. and I’m sure I’m missing a few more in there. But yeah it makes me very excited.

          • eboy71

            You’re definitely very excited.

          • Mitchell Hall

            What a great comment

          • eboy71

          • Ross Kemp

Thanks , looks a fun line up .
I only have eyes for Halo MC , so most games pass me by .

          • Mitchell Hall

Haha really out of all of those games you only want halo? Crazy! To each his own though

          • Ross Kemp

Bloodbourne on PS4 is also on my list , but you know how it goes on here if you mention anything PS .

          • Mitchell Hall

Lol. F that. I love my ps4 too. Yeah lords of the Fallen looks like that type of game too

          • Ross Kemp

            Agreed lol .

          • evilfangs .

I can’t wait for both Lords of the fallen and Bloodbourne.

          • Mitchell Hall

            Most definitely man.

          • ElektroDragon

I love my PS4, its my lead platform. Nevertheless, the Xbox brand is still strong, the X1 is a great exclusives machine, and I look forward to the Xbox Two surprising all of us and perhaps being worthy to retake the crown as king of consoles in my house. The Xbox Two will be either released first, or never at all, that I can predict.

          • Professor Oak

You mean the Xbox 4K? Get it? Cause 4K res and it will be the 4TH Xbox.

          • Ross Kemp

I kinda do not want a massive library full of games that I never got to play like on last gen consoles .
PS plus and Games with Gold only add to the pain lol .
So far this gen I have bought one title , rinsed it and moved on to the next .
I can see that slipping away tho if that list of yours is anything to go by .

          • Mitchell Hall

Haha I know what you mean. For me it’s partly because those games are really games that I think I’m going to like, but I have to admit another part of it is because I’m a collector and I love seeing the shelves I’ve built all around my theatre room more and more filled haha.. my other big obsession is blurays. I’ve got quite the man cave in my basement I must say lol.. all the gaming is done on my 75 inch samsung led smart TV ;) haha I feel like a kid again when I’m down there, it’s just great.

          • evilfangs .

I was looking at buying Shadow of Mordor but I think Diablo 3 is going to take longer then I thought to fully experience every single thing. ( I don’t like playing two games at once )

Have you noticed that for some reason Shadow of Mordor is only £40, instead of £48-60 game prices have been. I’m very happy that the price has come down to normal last gen new game prices but I wonder why it’s £40.

          • Mitchell Hall

Hmm actually I just checked for myself for canada where I live, it’s showing up 69.99 which is the (unfortunate) normal price for next gen games. Yeah I’m really enjoying diablo as well but I have a problem with buying games lol.. I pretty much buy all new release games.. all the ones I’ve mentioned so far will be day one purchases for me.

          • evilfangs .

Maybe it got less pre-orders over here and the publisher decided to lower the price.

360 and PS3 versions are normal £39.99 price and current gen are only £1 more at £40.00. Cheaper for me so I’m not fussed.

          • ImTheMetalLord

            Not Dying Light?

          • Mitchell Hall

Actually yes! I forgot about that one lol there’s so many. If I’m not mistaken that one’s set for February as well ?

          • ImTheMetalLord

Yea they moved it back to February.

          • evilfangs .

Can’t have Dying Light without Dead Island 2!

          • DarkMyste

Comes out next year and qb and lot of others as well

        • Mitchell Hall

          Agree? Disagree?

  • ElektroDragon

See you there, thanks to my fellow Dragon friend with the spare badge!

  • Mitchell Hall

Really wish I lived in the states! Hope whoever gets to go enjoys it ! I’m so excited for the next few months gaming.. I’ve been having a blast with diablo and starting tomorrow I’ll get to play the metro redux as well! Great time to be a gamer!… an Xbox gamer !

  • ImTheMetalLord

Did anyone else notice that on the 360 yesterday both WatchDogs (down 28% to $43.19) and Skyrim (down 60% to $11.99) are now listed as “Gold Exclusives”? I wonder if they went on sale early for next week (starting tomorrow) or they were late adds for last week (and only going to be available through the end of today.

Don’t much matter to me since I have both games already however thought maybe others that hadn’t noticed might want to know and those that did see wanted your opinion on what this might be.

    • Locke

      Early sale for this week

  • PawnSacrifices

Looking forward to the new Undead Labs reveal. Hope it’s a new State of Decay for the Xbox One.
