State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition Coming to Xbox One in 2015

When State of Decay debuted on Xbox Live last June, it broke a number of genre gameplay conventions: characters die permanently, story progression isn’t pre-scripted, and the world continues to change even when players are offline. Fans responded enthusiastically to this “zombie survival fantasy” spin on the genre, ensuring a bright future for the State of Decay franchise.

So what’s next for State of Decay? In Spring 2015, Xbox One owners will have the opportunity to experience the definitive version of State of Decay with the Year One Survival Edition. Earlier this week, we paid a visit to Undead Labs’ studios to learn more:

The State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition will include the original State of Decay, now running in glorious 1080p, previously released Add-Ons Breakdown and Lifeline, as well as some entirely new content. Undead Labs will reveal more on the new content closer to release, and you’ll read about it here when they do.

Thank you! Now I can play this on my xbox one! InstaBuy!

  • A. J.

“Spring 2015″. It is nice to hear that. Spring and Summer always seems to be able to handle more big releases.

  • Praytoseedeath

Yes if it is discounted from my recent 360 purchase. No it it is full price!

    • Lou

I got it for free last time I would not be upset if it was full price. I gave one of my friends Xbox credit to buy it on the 360.

    • A. J.

Voted up. I would encourage this type of behavior for this game and future ones. No, we are not entitled to get a discount. However, it does please long time supporters.

You can even make it better for both sides by saying “Owners of the original who buy it in the first week/month get it for X% off.”

      • Praytoseedeath

That would be nice, I bought the core game first day but just picked up lifeline…

  • mcmax3000

I’m actually really excited about this. I always wanted to play this game, and never got around to it on 360, so I’ll pick this up for sure.

    • Praytoseedeath

It’s awesome, and I want it but can’t justify a full price purchase if we have to…

  • Georgey_Peorgey

Was hoping for a multiplayer announcement…

    • Praytoseedeath

      Amen!

    • JR Texx (Jamie)

They already said there is going to be no multiplayer for this game, doubt we will see it in the Xbox One version either.

  • http://www.pathofdestruction.us/forums Xtowers

This was one of my favorite 360 games. I’ll surely be getting it on the One, especially if it is cheaper since I have bought it on the 360, too.

  • http://gamercards.exophase.com/xbox/user/UNSCleric UNSCleric

This was one of the rare Xbox 360 games that passed me by, so this is perfect.

  • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Sweet! This is another game that I didn’t end up playing on the last Gen and I was always very interested in it. Another remaster that’s made for someone like me. I know people are starting to complain about all the remaster but I think it’s great especially for those of us that didn’t play them last time… metro redux for example I didn’t play either of the games last time and I am absolutely loving the redux. I’m at the end of 2033 right now and will be jumping right into last light when I finish !

    • David Edwards

I agree. I look at it like this, its the developer learning the new system with a game that they already know well. So on the next new game, everything should go smoother with less delays and issues.

  • JR Texx (Jamie)

Yessss. great game on 360, gonna be great to play on the One.

  • Dirk Diggler

One of the most buggy and frame rate dropping XBLA games Ive ever played. I’d even go out on a limb and say it IS THE MOST. The developers caved in and made the base game easier with updates. They turned it into a casual zombie game that was meant to be difficult from the start. Then charged money for DLC that made it a little bit harder. Ill never buy a game from Undeadlabs again.

  • Anthony

I have it on 360 and LOVE it! Amazing game. Hopefully there’s an opputunity to upgrade to the X1 version if you already have the 360 version..

    • Reece Hunt

Why on earth would you pay more for the game if you already have it. I can sort of understand it with people who have the 360 and didn’t buy the game or people who have skipped 360 and went with the one, but purchase the game twice with probably little difference to the game (1080p, smoother looking) is beyond me.

  • Jorge Garza

Am I the only one who thinks the menus on the original are awful?

I found them so difficult to read to the point that I didn`t play the game because of that. I don`t know why developers make menus with weird fonts and small letters, it so annoying.

Also, some developers make subtitles super small, like Rockstar in Max Payne 3, those were unreadable.

    • ImTheMetalLord

I HATE subtitles. I turn them off any chance I get. I find myself reading along with the dialog instead of watching the cut scene or what I’m suppose to be doing. My ears work well enough that I can hear what they are saying.

      • Jorge Garza

This may be because english is your first language.

Even tho I “think” my english is good and I can hold a conversation with an english speaker, I understand more reading that listening to it and sometimes I don`t understand some words when I hear them, but when I read them I can realize what they mean.

I also disable spanish subtitles because I can understand every word and I don´t need subtitles at all.

        • ImTheMetalLord

I figured that for some that would be the case. Also thought that you might be one of them and it’s valid. I wasn’t denying your complaint I was only trying to give my opinion. I think we are on the same page.

          • Jorge Garza

Yeah man, polite people. I was just trying to make a clarification for us who like good subtitles because language. Sometimes people don`t realize this kind of things because they don`t have the same experience.

      • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Haha its weird I love subtitles. I use them on everything. Watching movies/tv and games. I just hate when people say things that I end up missing. Drives me crazy so I just like to have them on for refrence

        • Gazmaster3D

Subtitles are automatically switched on for me for the exact same reason. I hate to think I might moss out on an important piece of dialogue because the characters voices aren’t loud enough.

      • MURD3R HE WROTE

This has absolutely nothing to do with that statement, but I almost added you the other day. I no longer have a 360 so I thought it might be a bit pointless. Hurry up and get an X1 man. lol.

        • ImTheMetalLord

I’m thinking around the beginning of next year is when I will be in a place where I can afford one. At least that is my goal as of right now.

    • Praytoseedeath

It’s a great game but this is a highly valid point!

  • Joao Silva

no multiplayer=no buy … it´s unbelievable a game in these days don´t have a coop multiplayer… I don´t play single player games anymore.

    • ImTheMetalLord

I prefer single player games as apposed to co op or multiplayer but to each their own.

  • Praytoseedeath

    MULTIPLAYER of GTFO!

  • Reece Hunt

Instead of re making games on the 360 for the xbox one, why don’t Microsoft just make it possible to access 360 games on the Xbox one?

    • Hank Hill

I think they would had done that already if it was possible.

      • Reece Hunt

Sony have managed it even though it sounds like a poor execution, then why can’t Microsoft.

        • Michael Burden

You mean their streaming rental service, PS Now? LOL, I’d rather pay for a remake than pay outrageous prices to rent an old game streamed to me with lag that eats up my bandwidth cap – not to mention the download bandwidth requirements that are above the majority of what is offered by most ISPs in the US, which would make in unusable for many like myself.

          • beardyman3218

Not to mention more expensive to use than simply keeping your old games and console. £15 for 90 days of a last gen game…no thank you.

        • Tenton

So, Microsoft should put up a half-assed streaming solution that sucks for most people because of bandwidth contraints/bandwidth caps? General internet connections aren’t there yet and won’t be for some time (to truly support streaming games). I would love full b/c as well so I could get rid of my 360s but the challenges to doing that are pretty large and I guess I’m realistic.

        • PawnSacrifices

The X1 & 360 use different graphics cards, (as far as I recall (so don’t quote me)) the x1 uses an AMD (as does the ps3&4) where as the 360 uses a different brand (NVIDIA I think).
So to simply put a 360 game onto the X1 would require just as much reprogramming as ‘redux-ing’ it.
Fyi, In theory it’d be simpler to put a ps3 game on the x1 than a 360 game.

          • Tenton

Actually you’re on the right track but not quite there. The 360 uses AMD grfx as does the X1. That’s not the issue. The issue is the CPU architectures are vastly different (x86 in X1 vs. PowerPC in 360). I think it could possibly be done but the effort may not be worth it. This gen transition may be different because of the advent of digital marketplaces but in past generations that offered B/C, only like 5% of the audience even used it (and that was 5% of the early adopters). Over time, it dropped off even more IIRC. I may have misremembered the numbers but I remember them being low. I think they would be higher this time around but in reality, Sony/MS don’t really gain anything besides a pat on the back for built-in B/C. Much more $$ dumped into than pulled out of.

    • FineMaltLiquor

because then they wouldnt be able to charge you twice obviously.

  • KaosTheory

All these ports from previous gen. Meh. Why can’t they just create a new game for the Xbox One? It’s easier to port they say and add new content (i.e. a new side mission or two)… Just like Diablo 3 on Xbox One for example.

  • ElektroDragon

Great! I think I will actually buy it this time!

    • Peter

While that would be nice in practice. You gotta remember that most gamers nowadays are older in their 20’s and up (yeah i know theres still kids and teens playing games) and the market is more mature since the days of nintendo and sega. There’s also this invention called headphones you might try. But yeah it still would be considerate if they included such an option Its actually much easier to block out background images of zombies being blown to bits mentally than screams of pain anguish and people screaming fuq dat sh%t up! for example which makes everyone around ears perk up.

      • Gazmaster3D

Elektro is a mature gamer with kids hence why he wants a language filter. A great idea for older gamers who have kids running around and not sitting watching.

        • ElektroDragon

Well, he does watch sometimes but when he says something like Diablo 3 is “too scary” I will switch to LEGO Movie or Skylanders.

All I know is, I can’t even LAUNCH GTA V, and not even because of the violence, but because of the terrible language and grammar.

That’s an after bedtime use headphones game.

        • trfe

The game will sell language filter or not, so it’s not worth it for devs to offer it.

          • Peter

True but still would be a nice consideration to offer to those with families. Try to contact the developer via their site and try to suggest the idea.Don’t imagine offering an option to bleep out offending words would be that difficult or time consuming to implement.

  • Peter

Looks like the same stuff remade as a definitive edition with little to no new stuff added. Breakdown wasn’t by anyones definition new content as it was basically a endless challenge mode being sold as dlc. Kinda leery now with all these indie games from 360 being sold yet again with the dlc ie: zombie driver etc

Will wait until its clear there really is significant new content or its just them blowing smoke up our asses.

  • Peter

Anyone else getting leery of all these 360 arcade games being repackaged for x1? as so called definitive versions? Most of them just package the dlc with it and sell it again for full price from scratch with little to no new content

sigh hate the start of this new trend

    • TheSchwartz

Kind of agree. Would be more excited about an actual State of Decay sequel than yet another Definitive edition.

    • Praytoseedeath

Seriously no wonder they didn’t wanna backward compatibility our 360 arcade because they just planned to sell it to us all over again M$

      • Brad

Sony is doing it as well. Except with a much better game (TLOU). I purchased State of Decay day one and as much as I loved the feel of the game (The Carpenter style of music, sense of being alone) and what they were trying to do with it, just couldn’t get passed the horrid framerates and they are horrible. I got headaches from extended play. Also the repetitive nature of the missions and the Lack of multiplayer made the game not worth returning to even after the DLC.

They have a lot of work to do in order to make this game great and I don’t know if they can do it.

      • beardyman3218

You dont have to buy them, this is aimed toward people who want an upgrade or havent played it before, it doesnt cost you a dime unless you want it to.

    • Gazmaster3D

LOL someone commented yesterday that they are fed up of getting ”essentially beta” versions of these type of games on the X1 whilst PC etc… get definitive versions.

      • plnkfloydian

        iOS Master Race

    • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

No way man. I’m loving it. I’ve never played diablo, either metro games or this so these remasters are awesome for someone like me. I picked up Diablo ultimate edition, loved it can’t put it down, picked up metro redux, loving it can’t put it down. Just beat 2033 and am now jumping into last light… and when this comes out I’ll be grabbing it as well because I was always really interested in it but never got around to playing it. I don’t see how these are problems? There’s still tons and tons of brand new games being released on these consoles especially in the next 6 months, so what’s wrong with adding all these great remastered versions of games not everyone has played? Nothing in my opinion.

      • MURD3R HE WROTE

haha I know, every time I see you on it’s either Diablo or Metro. great stuff.

        • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Hahaha yeah I’ve been hard core playing those games since they came out. Gotta work hard at getting the beat before destiny drops haha. I think I have a pretty good shot at getting them finished in time.. don’t have to go back to work til middle of Sept so I have nothing but time lol. We should play some diablo some night.

          • MURD3R HE WROTE

Most Def. what character are you using and what level? I’m constantly sending people gems, and etc. to help out. If you let me know I might be able to help ya out.

      • evilfangs .

Daiblo 3 was amazing, it took me a week to complete all acts and get my barb level 70. The adventure mode is okay but without any mission structure it’s not as fun for me. I understand that bounties and rifts are fun but I’d have liked some sort of mission behind them.

I only need 11 more trophies to platinum it though, all the hard ones though. Who’s idea was it for a reach level 70 with 6 different classes and reach level 70 in hardcore mode. ( perm death in hardcore mode )

    • beardyman3218

Not really considering the games look 10x better and are not “repackaged” a lot of work goes into them just as much as making another game as some of them are made from the ground up. You dont have to buy them so why complain?

  • Peter

This game will probably be discounted shortly is my guess. This game has a long history on 360 and those that were already interested already have it by now. So nobody wants to pay full price again. As much as they tout new content 1080 blah blah my guess is its pretty much the same game+dlc and possibly a little smoother because its running on the x1. But i seriously doubt this will be like a new game as much as they wanna hype it as something better.

I’m waiting on this for a sale.

  • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

Nice! I always wanted the 360 version, but never got it for whatever reason.
    Glad I waited.

  • Jerome Noxby

so with the definitive, remastered, etc. editions of games from the 360, what has been the point of next gen lol. I know it’s still early in its life span, but this is just getting lame.

    • MURD3R HE WROTE

Atleast all the ports have been of great games. I was so happy to get Diablo 3 on X1 as were my friends.

    • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Why is it a problem if they remake games as long as there’s lots of new games releasing as well? Which there clearly is. The next few months is completely jam packed with AAA game releases. I’m glad for the Diablo one because I never would have played that game if it wasn’t for the ultimate edition and same goes for metro redux. Both awesome additions to my Xbox one library.

  • MURD3R HE WROTE

Can’t wait for this to come to X1. They should add more stuff and perfect it before though. This should be the answer to DayZ.

  • PawnSacrifices

    YEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH BOIY!

  • kingcrusher

I don’t mind the remakes so much as long as they make it worth my while by making it better AND cheaper (All they do is redo the textures in a higher resolution, and maybe tweak a few things in the games).

As long as there are new games coming out at a steady pace, I’m all for remakes and re-releasing the older games, as long as they are a bargain.

    • Praytoseedeath

They make them more expensive than the original (zombie driver) not cheaper. :(

  • Axcalibur

Ugh, yet another 360 port (2 announced today!). This wouldnt be an issue with backward compat. Still think it was just a ‘technical issue’ – bullshit, it was all about $$$.

Oh well… Not much we can do except not pay for the ports (or wait til they’re cheap or GwG)…

  • Guest

Don’t forget to grab your “ONE” Popcorn with your “ONE” game everybody!!
On the “ONE” with the “ONE” in the “ONE” lol

  • dark freedom

    No more refrits.

  • Dirasyaj X

On 360 at first multiplayer was supposed to be a update later on. Then it got scrapped so co-op or no buy that simple.

    • Hank Hill

Yup, they pretty much lead people to believe that there would be an updated that allowed multiplayer, I bought the game because of it and wouldn’t had if I knew they wasn’t going to include it.

      • Heidi Holappa

I thought they were pretty open about no multiplayer happening with State of Decay even pre-launch. I never was under the impression that there’d be multiplayer coming. They did talk about how they were interested in exploring that in future projects though, if I recall correctly.

        • Hank Hill

Well it was release on June 5th and it wasn’t until a month latter that they announced that they had canned the idea, you can google it and see all the news stories that were posted in the early part of July about it.

  • evilfangs .

Any word on if the game will have better textures, sound and lighting? Because they were so bad on the 360, and yes I understand because arcade game but I’ve seen some amazing sound and looking arcade games on the 360 before.

Will we also be waiting for State of decay 2 for co-op or will it come to this remake?

  • plnkfloydian

Ive played less than 5% of this game the textures are so grainy i cant stand it but i believe thats intentional to give it a grungey feel :/

    • Bubba Bullock Jr.

It will look a lot better on xbox one. Just wait and play that version.

  • beardyman3218

    Does it have Co-op?

    • ImTheMetalLord

      No.

      • beardyman3218

This game would be so much fun with Co-op and if it had multiplayer it would be better than day-z.

        • ImTheMetalLord

Not for me. I prefer single player games over co op and multiplayer games. But like I said before to each their own.

          • beardyman3218

Dont get me wrong I dont want a multiplayer only game just an option to have multiplayer, the non intrusive kind were you have to select it rather than someone randomly join your game.

      • http://Www.mylifewithgaming.wordpress.com/ Mitchell Hall

Nothings been announced yet.. I wouldn’t say no definitively yet though.. it’s the number one requested thing so I’m guessing it’s a strong possibility.

        • ImTheMetalLord

          True that.

  • Peter

Q: A Bit off topic but here goes. I thought that those that bought the 360 pinball fx 2 tables automatically got them for free to import to x1. I bought the recent 360 walking dead version. So why does the table still appear as 3 bucks on the x1 marketplace? Please tell me the import thing wasn’t only for certain tables

    • ImTheMetalLord

I would go to their website and post that question. I bet there might even already be an answer for it there as I’m sure you are not the only one. I bought it on the 360 but don’t own a One yet thinking it will transfer when I do get me a One. I just don’t have time to go looking for the answer now as it’s not a top priority for me yet. If you find an answer it would be nice if you could let me know.

      • Peter

thanks though. Will do. I know when they put up the x1 tables up originally it took them a little while until those who previously bought them showed up as free Hope thats the case with this table as well.

        • Peter

its not currently crossbuy according to them. Some b.s about tech problems working on it supposedly. Its a new table not some ancient table with compatibility issues. Hope they get that sorted soon. Not paying for something i went out of my way to buy on 360 to import to x1.

Seriously thought they worked out all the problems by now

          • ImTheMetalLord

That is BS!!! I bet it’s a licensing issue. That would make more sense.

    • Gazmaster3D

I have read that the new tables don’t transfer.

      • ImTheMetalLord

Well that means I don’t buy any more new tables on the 360. I won’t be buying any new tables till I get the X1.

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

why didn’t you just buy the x1 version?

  • Praytoseedeath

    Any guesses for September’s GWG?

If it’s loco cycles all I have to say is I feared this day would come….

    • llortretsam

They already posted them on this blog, it’s Monaco and Halo Reach for 360 and Super Time Force and Crimson Dragon again for the X1.

      • Praytoseedeath

        Awesome!!!! Games I don’t own!!
        God bless you sir!

        • Praytoseedeath

Just the sprit lifting info I needed to make it through the rest I my graveyard shift, I had wanted to buy Monaco and STF just never got around to either!

      • Peter

yeah not to be sarcastic but it is posted as an article on the front page of the blog

        • Praytoseedeath

Derp sorry neglected checking in much yesterday :( hadn’t noticed it, usually look through phone so tiny screen and stuff. “Da scroll, da scroll, da button, da button, the scroll’s so smooth like the butter on a muffin.”

    • Peter

ironically enough its been come to my attention that lococycle was removed from the marketplace listings. Weirdly enough a search still brings it up for sale if interested

Not that anyones clamoring for this. Still if it did get officially removed their would always be that lingering sense of should i have gotten it? even though its universally panned

  • Ethan Holmes

Minecraft is a $5 upgrade, if this is too or if it adds co-op at a higher price I’ll buy.

Oh neat, a call of duty sale, we never had one before.
Well, at least the rest of the sale is somewhat varied and has a decent number of games, I won’t buy any but that’s an improvement over the COD Ghost only weeks.
