Andre (who works in our Developer Relations group) over at his Ozymandias blog has posted some thoughts on Blu-Ray and specifically around using it gaming. Andre's friend, Mark DeLoura, who was formerly at Sony in Developer Relations but since moved to Ubisoft, posted his response to Andre claims on his blog. Add in some coverage of the public discussion from Gamasutra, and you've got quite the drama. Popcorn anyone?
Heres theres popcorn!
Yes, there is a bit of a scuffle going on there isnt there Major? I wonder if Ozy knew that this might have happened?
i could care less about HD DVD or Bluray.
I am not prepared to rebuy my DVD complete libraries of StarWars, LOTR, HarryPotter, Indiana Jones, Spiderman and so on. I have a 51" wide screen HDTV and DVD is good enough for me. Im sure most people feel this way. If I ever do buy a HD disc system it will not be bluray.
Give me Gears of War and Im good.
P.S: My posts seem to delete them selves. I posted before, and it showed up, but then i refresed and it dissapeard. :S
Nice one Major!
How do you find out about this stuff ?
All this ruckus has turned me off to both formats.
Dude you dont need to rebuy those movies. Just buy new ones in the new format. I plan on buying the HDDVD add on if it isnt to much and upconverts standard dvds as well.
Not sure if Ozymandias has been on your show yet, but I'd love to hear what he has to say about his job in Developer Relations. I've been reading his blog from the beginning and it's pretty cool...of course not as cool as yours. ;)
Having done some texture work myself, I can tell you that drawing a comparison between PS2 in-ram texture sizes (in bytes) to contemporary textures with various hardware texture compressions readily available (and being used) is false.
It's like saying a DVD isnt enough for a family album of 500 photos because 50 .TIF photos already filled the whole CD 15 years ago. Welcome to the era of compression.
And this applies not only to textures but audio and video aswell. The more hardware oomph the more capacity to decode on the fly, the more bang for your megabyte. And two EXTRA cores go a long way when decoding even several overlapping streams without compromising performance.
lawl it's funny when kids fight on forums, but in blogs?
Major who you gonna pick a fight with?
The BD guy actually agreed with the MS guy on the fact that DVDs are faster than BDs? Wow.
Is there any popcorn left? :D
Does anyone know of a DVD compressor so I can put movies on my Motorola Q? It will have to shrink it down to about 1GB.
Cool a blogfight!
hay i get next bach of popcorn lol
xBETA 420x major is too of a nice guy if he fights with someone he going to fight for the right reason ;) even with MS if they push him off the edge about doing something wrong like how sony doing now..
Yay, people finally bringing up arguments I've been bringing up for the past year.
Where are the posts trashing the horribly low quality of the Wii visuals and its paltry online support?? And all the stories about how games cant be ported to that system because of its garbage specs? Why do you only pick out every negative press item about sony and PS3 and let nintendo skate?
