October 2006 - Posts
I just posted a bunch of photos from tonight’s ‘Gears of War’ event at Six Flags New England. In addition to meeting most (maybe all?) of the winners, I got a nice interview with Megadeths’s Dave Mustaine for this weekend show. To the folks who attended, what did you think of the game? (And what was up with the heat in that room…wow was it hot in there!)
Just a reminder that the ‘Saints Row’ auto update is now available on Xbox Live. If you sign in to Xbox Live and you have the game in your tray, you’ll automatically get prompted for the update. Complete details of what is in the AU are over at the Saints Row website

As I mentioned in previous blogcasts, I have been asked to appear as on a new Satellite radio show on video games. The first episode of the show, called ‘Level Up,' will air tomorrow (10/31) at 2p ET/11a PT on Sirius Satellite, Maxim channel 108. Since it’s the first show, it may be a little rough, so if you have Sirius please let me know how it sounds. This weeks episode will be pretty straight forward, but the shows co-hosts promise that we'll take live calls in the future. Speaking of co-hosts: I am not a co-host, but they have asked me to be a frequent guest on the show if I have time.
Warning: This is for casual video gamers…not the dedicated types that listen to my weekly show, or read the blog…so you may be a little bored with the banter.
Edit: There will not be a re-broadcast as far as I know, and I’ll ask them if I can put up the show as a blogcast, but I doubt they’ll let me.
I dropped by Six Flags New England today to see how the set up is going for the event tomorrow night, and uploaded a few of shots of the events team prepping the VIP area. I’ll be taking photos tomorrow night at the actual event and uploading them to Flickr as well. More importantly, I’ll be and hanging with the 300 or so VIP winners from various contests as they get to play GoW and watch Megadeth from their prime VIP seats. Congratulations to all the winners who won, I look forward to meeting you tomorrow.
Looking for official details on the Fall Dashboard update? Check out the Newsflash (or the complete list of new features) just posted on Xbox.com then look for the update to head your way after 0200 PT Tuesday morning (What time is that in my time zone?.) If this whole ‘update’ thing is new to you, don’t worry…it’s quick, free and painless. Next time you login into Xbox Live you’ll get prompted to receive the update…it’s that easy. There is no way to force the update (and, regardless of what you have heard, it's not geographical based.) So sit back and relax and it get ready for the update sometime after 0200 PT Tuesday morning, October 31st.
Edit: Elle has an article on the dash newness here.

For those of you that sent me email for a chance to go to play 'GoW' and see Megadeth this week, remember to check your email Sunday afternoon (today) around 3p ET. I'll be sending emails to the lucky folks who will be joining me. I will need you to confirm that you can co pretty quick, so please respond as soon as you can...otherwise pull more names. Also, since Sunday is a travel day I won't be posting a blogcast. Since the next show is the the big 200th episode I want to give it the proper attention, so next week look for a jam packed show. Also remember that today marks the end of daylight savings time, so keep that in mind and make the proper adjustments for your local time zone.

You read that right, I am going to give you one of the first chances to play ‘Gears of War’ before anyone else. Read on for the background: ‘Gears of War’ is a sponsor of Megadeth’s ‘Gigantour.’ It turns out that Dave Mustaine was inspired by the theme of the game so he wrote a song called “Gears of War” for their upcoming album.
You with me so far? Good…let’s continue:
On Tuesday, October 31st (Halloween) Megadeth is appearing at Six Flags New England where they will debut that new song. Not wanting to miss a chance to hang with Megadeth (and head back home) I scored some passes for myself AND a few lucky readers…but not just any passes: VIP passes. These passes will get you into the park and the Megadeth show PLUS access to the VIP party where you'll get hands on gameplay with ‘Gears of War’ - a full week before the game releases. What's more, MTV will be filming part of the concert for an upcoming show. In addition, I’ll be getting the band on my show for my 200th episode. (Which reminds me..no show this week since I'll be travelling to attend the event, plus I really need to wait and get Megadeth on for my 200th show..right?)
Here is what you need to do: Send me an email with the subject line ‘I want to play Gears of War’ and in the body please tell me your gamertag. Please be within a reasonable driving distance of the park near Springfield, MA.
Note:You and your guest must be 18 or over to attend (sorry..those are the rules of the Park.) I’ll pull a few random winners from the emails I receive before Sunday Oct. 29 at 12n PT. You’ll win two tickets..one for you and one for a friend. Everything else is up to you. If you get picked, I’ll send you an email Sunday evening. Please don’t pester me with a bunch of ‘did I win?’ emails ;)
Tony and John from the Gamerscore blog are down in Hollywood attending the ‘Gears of War’ Cemetery Party tonight/tomorrow morning. Keep an eye on their blog and their Flickr site for posts-n-photos.
