As you may have heard, there have been some updates to Xbox 360 Warranty that you should be aware of. It may be worth checking out if you need any warranty work done. Free shipping, new post service warranty and faster service are some of the highlights. You can read details of the update on Xbox.com.
if the 360 wasn't the most unreliable console ever made this would be a non-issue for 98% of ppl out there
Better service doesn't make a console more reliable, does it?
I can't complain; this is a welcome improvement and can only be a good thing.
Now all we need is a decent fix for the DRM issue ;-)
(Larry can you get one of the guys in to discuss it on your podcast? There are a lot of people out there that would be interested in it I'm sure)
Wow - my first system broke whilst it had its store warrenty so it wasn't an issue me, but now I'm getting to the end of my first year, I was starting to get the fear....
Well done MS - the 360 may not be perfect but at least you're willing to do something about it.
Thankfully we already have this in Europe! ;)
Hey Major do the consoles manufactured before jan 1 2006 still have the lifetime warrenty?
Hooray for Australia, where we already had all this stuff (prepaid postage on xbox360 repairs, took 16 days door to door to get mine fixed.), and all electronic equipment must BY LAW have 1 year replacement warranty.
Ive got one question though, do you get a full 1 year warranty on repaired boxes?
I dont quite understand the "you will receive the balance of your original warranty" bit.
Does that just mean you'll still get the rest of the original warranty?
Use FedEx and problem solved, stop using cheap mail delivery service.
I would really like to know the broken console numbers, because I was really pushing for the low console deaths but now Over 85% of my friend have had to send there Xbox 360 back to you guys and get their consoles fixed.
PureSevend420...the consoles before Jan 2006 never had a lifetime warranty
i called microsoft last week about my broken Dec 2005 system and i still have to pay the $170 to get it fixed
major,i read your Twitter on the left hand side
i think you should just have members only posts from now on
Great news Major!
Now I might consider repairing post-warranty instead of buying a new one. (not that I'm having problems right now)
I am still waiting for my check for $140 that I am owed.
Guess I will call and get no where!:)
I sent My 360 in this morning. I had to pay the shipping but I guess the new policy wasn't in effect when I called MS on Saturday! This is the second warranty return for me. Last time it was about a week and half turn around, Which is pretty damn good IMO!! I Knew when I bought a launch 360 there would be chance of trouble. I love my Xbox 360 and can't wait to get mine back!
Upon delivery of my console to the repair center, the replacement was sent out the same afternoon with a confirmation email placed to me.
I'd heard horror stories that it'd taken some people upwards of 8 weeks to get thier consoles back; it took me about ten days total from point of malfunction to once again playing. I'm glad I got a replacement unit!
So does this mean that I'll recieve my original launch console back when I send in my defective replacement unit, get back the defective foreign unit, or a completely different unit entirely?
EV1L ERIC, I believe my replacement unit that was sent to me was a refurbished 360.
It works fine and actually a little quieter than my actual purchased 360, but the fan seems to change speeds irratically in this one.. It's not shown any problems yet however so it's of no concern to me.
Darn.
I always thought that the console was more expensive here in Europe because of the better warranty and related service.
I guess we're just more willing to simply pay higher prices.
I'm still waiting to get a UK 360 fixed from back in October 06!
My launch unit is still alive and ticking.. I kind of wish it had died already because now it's out of warranty and I'm sure its days are numbered. :(
I love how my complain got censored. Good lookin out for the customer! This service just keeps getting worse.
Good timing Major, my replacement is just breaking on the 89th day.. cannot read disc.. cannot read disc..
Thanks!
I'm glad that Microsoft is making these changes. I know I had my console break on me, and because it wasn't three red lights, I had to pay for the shipping there, and it cost me around $30, so I'm glad they've changed the policy surrounding that.
As for my repair experience, I got my new console back promptly, and it appeared to be a refurbished one that has worked just fine thus far. The e-mail notification I got was always a few days after, but that's fine since it was a pleasant surprise when my 360 got back to me before I even got a notification that I was being sent back a new one.
I'd love to see the warranty for replacement consoles go up a little bit, (maybe to six months), but these gradual changes that Microsoft is making are good to see, and does on their part own up to the fact that a lot of people are experiencing issues with their 360.

Well if you read this post you can clearing see that the service is improving.
Major, if you could clarify one thing, I would appreciate it - I just (like a week ago) had my 360 repaired out of warranty and paid for shipping to the repair depot - do I (and people in my situation) get a refund/rebate?
