Tomorrow’s dashboard update will bring the ‘Friends of Friends’ feature to your Xbox 360’s friends list. This is a friendly reminder that if want to change the default settings of ‘Everyone’ (where anyone can see who is on your Xbox LIVE Friends list) then please take this time to visit Xbox.com to change the setting. If you want to keep the default, then you can just sit back and relax and wait for the update to hit tomorrow morning. After the update, you can change this setting as needed in your console or on Xbox.com.
Im leaving it on, doesnt bother me the slightest that people can see my friends list.
Hurry up tuesday!!!
Surely like the Facebook Beacon thing, there is a privacy issue, even though it is a list of friends and their friends, shouldn't this be opt-in rather than opt-out?
Or is it out-out so more people are using the feature by default without realising?
so wait.
Can people still se me through from other Friends of Friend?
So i set it on blocked.
Lets take example here:
Im friend of Player 1 and im on his friendlist.
Player 1 has set FOF to Everyone.
Now Player 2 happens to take a look at Player 2 friendlist.
Can player 2 see me there?
Because if yes,to avoid too many Friend Requests,i will probably spam my friendlist telling to make FOF blocked.
Elf Yourself!

oops, I meant to post something on topic, like, I can't wait to snoop my friends' lists!
Allowing or disallowing people to see my friends list is one thing, but why can't I set whether or not I appear in other people's FoF list? What if I don't want anyone to just see my tag on people who I'm friends with? Do I need to start convincing all of these guys to change their setting to 'friends only'?
wait ozzie matt is an aussie? holy crap?!
this features all right and i agree with aussie matt we get stuck with awful lag playing international people. so any chance to minimise australian lag is a chance to take.
but i'm more interested in the bio stuff, i've been getting online less and less so that extra space in bio information will give the people who care the reason. 21 characters doesn't go far enough towards saying i'm busy with other stuff check it out at X.
you know major you could just turn it off for everyone? cause at the end of the day this is a utter crap feature and all its gonna do is create arguments between friends and allow spammers free reign.
Although to me this seems the lazy way out for microsoft xbox team. You refuse to make friends lists larger than 100 yet now you give me the ability to make a silver account and fill it with another load of people and then i can just access that friends list and BAM i have a 200 people friend list (or a clan list seein as you guys lied to us again)
Why not turn this feature off for everyone and then let people turn it on if they want to>? nobody will turn it off cause nobody will even realise that they can.
<boycot the dash update 2007!>
I just put mine on friends only. I wouldn't want to get random friend requests with people my friend just played with in Halo 3 matchmaking, i'm sure they wouldn't want a random friend request either.
Good..Less aussies in US Games.
I'm putting mine on block.
I just hope that this update can go smoother than the previous ones, ie not a console killer.
When is Live going down and what is the estimated time to come back up?
I messaged everyone on my friends list that i'm setting mine to friends only. Haven't had any complaints, so all is good i assume.
shuasage:
Live went down in November i think in preparation for this update as well as maintenance, so you don't have to worry about that :)
Major -
Every time I set it to friends only and save it and then go back to the page to make sure that it took, it always reverts back to everyone. It doesn't look like it is saving your settings.
isnt this like looking thru your friends rolidex with out them knowing?
I agree that it should be opt-in or at least set to 'Friends only' by default!
What time is the update going to happen?
Did they INCREASE the AMOUNT OF FRIENDS YOU CAN HAVE???
Just gonna leave it to the default setting for now and change it later if I need to.
II Tapio II: You are 100% correct. With FoF, you cannot block yourself from appearing on other people's FoF list. This crappy feature is a privacy violation. The default should be Blocked, not Everyone.
I will be spamming everyone on my Friend's list to tell them to set their setting to Blocked.
"Anon 14: isnt this like looking thru your friends rolidex with out them knowing?"
That is an excellent analogy! Yes, that's exactly what FoF is like.
