The Gamerscore blog has posted this statement on the recent news.
Blu-Ray add on? Hmmm...
Blu-ray add-on please...
Microsoft needs to put there attention on HD DVD and start buying movie companys before it all goes to hell
Please ?
It's a shame HD-DVD had to go so quick, but if they use Bluray, only people who'd cry are the people who own PS3s and hate 360 far as I can see it'll be a good move.
I think its the SONY PS3 fanboys that have nothing else to use against the 360 as ammuniation apart from the fact that they have Blu Ray out of the box.
The bottom line is, the 360 is all about games, and it has the best set of titles available at this moment in time. If HD DVD does fail big time and Blu Ray is the choice format, I encourage M$ to produce a Blu Ray players, much like the HD DVD one they have discounted recently.
On the flip side, my brother did actually buy a PS3 for its Blu Ray player only, not the games, so, M$ is missing out to some potential customers in that area.
Toshiba is stopping production of HD-DVD players and has conceded defeat to Sony & the Blu-Ray format.

The War is over, Blu-Ray won...though will Sony play nice and let their biggest rival console the XBOX 360 have an add-on Blu-Ray player? Time will Tell. Meanwhile, my PS3 is mainly a Blu-Ray player the online community for PSN is weak for now. When HOME is released this may change.
Honestly Major, it wasn't worth anyone doing an official statement on this since it should be obvious to anyone that consoles are primarily for videogaming and always will be. because the one that will agree have already agreed from the start and the people who believe otherwise are too clueless to change their minds about it anyways.
What would be interesting to read on a statement would be Microsofts plan B to replace that gap that the dissapearance of HD-DVD will create. - although i personally dont think there is a gap since the High def movie thing isn't a primairy factor for your target consumers, since they care about videogames a lot more then movies. - IE: will you guy's distribute an add-on blue-ray player, opt for digital distribution of content over xbox-live or both?
Although im pretty sure you wont be able to touch the blue-ray add-on thing directly since its not your department, info on the upcoming digital distribution projects on live would be fun to know!
Well that's all
good day

i dont see why anyone cares. why did you buy the addon to begin with. it only works when the 360 works and that seems to be less and less likely.
I bought the hddvd player and also have a PS3. Luckily I bought more blu ray than hddvd, so now I can replace the 5 movies I have a pack away the hddvd player that is taking up an extra spot in my wall outlet. Glad the war is finally over.
its a trap...
Will MS announce the blu ray addon this week?
will we get a ninja gaiden 2 demo this week?
This debate is far from over. All you Blue Ray fan boys can make noise all you want. HD is not going away. Blue Ray is Betamax pass it on :)
If microsoft would of put the hd dvd drive into the xbox 360, then we would of won. Tis a shame i bought my hd dvd drive a couple of months ago and have bought over 10 films for it. Oh well. Life goes on.
My question is that what do we do with are old HD DVD player if Microsoft decides to bring out a Blu Ray addon for the 360? Can we trade our old HD DVD addon in and get some money for it so we can go and buy the Blu Ray addon? Can we swap for the Blu Ray addon? WHAT?
It's <i>technically</i> possible to add a BluRay addon that works like the old HD-DVD did... but it might not be <i>politically</i> possible.<br/><br/>
Did you know that every single BluRay player has a fully-licensed fully-compliant brand-name Java runtime embedded in it? That's how you do dynamic content on a BluRay disk. It's part of the spec, they all have to do it. And as a result, it's possible to code games (or other software) in pure Java and burn them on to a BluRay disk and have them play in pretty much any BluRay player anywhere.<br/><br/>
I'm not exactly sure that I see Microsoft participating in that particular ecosystem any time soon...
Blu-Ray Add On? Hopefully with BD-Live Profile. Hey Major: If there's a Blu-Ray add on will you be able to have a blu-ray add on and an HD-DVD add on on the same 360? I'm not asking you to confirm a Blu-Ray add on in development I just wanna know if its possible to have 2 add on devices on the same 360?
I like Cheese
Cant wait for Transformers on BluRay now :)
