Next-gen.biz has an interview with Marc Whitten (who you know from my show as Notwen) who gives up details on what is up with the Spring Update and what you can expect over from LIVE over the next few months, including a change to our DRM policy. Give it a read and let me know what you think. When Marc drops by my office next time I’ll share your thoughts with him.
His head! I want his head!!
j/k :) don't like it though. Sounds like MS isn't dedicated if they can't do both...
No spring update!?!?!?!? WTF!?!?!?!?
Hot diggidy daphodiles.
Here comes the backlash...
Delisting XBLA titles? That sounds really really bad? How are people going to redownload these games that they've bought? Are you going to refund everyone those points? They might be crap/underrated titles but people paid for them!
The DRM relicensing is good though. Disappointed at now real dashboard update. There's a few features I really wanted. The biggest one being the ability to retain more game updates on the HDD, I hate being disconnected from Live to download game updates every 5 different games I play, and it sucks to not be able to play most my game library when offline.
No Spring 2008 Dashboard Update? :(
plz don't remove old arcade titles!
also, sad panda @ no spring update
Well, interesting read. Good to see MS is working on the DRM issues and focusing a lot more on quality of the arcade games. Not too sure about paying 1600 pints on a consistent basis, I still think it is a bit high for the Penny Arcade game.
As for the dash update, I think it is a bad decision to move away from it this spring. The update is one of the features that keeps people excited around this time, to not offer anything at all, especially in the slow transition of summer, kills the buzz. I think even if a small update was offered with something like 4 player chat or new customization features it would help.
That's just my two cents!
Thanks MN! :)
Sounds good to me. I can't wait for the DRM fix.
If there is to be no Spring update (officially) then will the Fall Update be huge? A big change?
GREAT MOVE on the DRM change, hopefully it isn't a pain to do it.
Booooo. By the read of that, looks like that means - "No cool updates, but we'll fix the problems that we've caused all along and call it an update"
I was really hoping that the "rumor" list of stuff was going to turn out to be true, at least the multi-person chat + better pre-loading + ability to scroll item descriptions with the right stick.
Oh well, I got a $400+ gift card from Best Buy sitting here for my first 360 (pro) that died (thank you product replacement plan) that's going towards a PS3 (when they release another non-crippled version). I still <3 my Elite, but it definitely seems like things are getting stale 'round these parts.
Hmmm...
Share this with him:
No update, no 4-way chat, no HDD install (there should have been a HDD in every box that was xbox 1's phrase), no clan support, and no spring update = RichardGaywood!
That is all I have to say about ....RichardGaywood....
So the same people working on infrastructure are the same as the people adding fast forward and rewind to audio??? All I have to say about that is RichardGaywood!
Maybe PS3 will have a Spring update, and this will be all irrelavent!!!
XBOX 720 = HDD in every box.
sincerely,
Not RichardGaywood,
AMT
It's great that the platform and Live got all this infrastructure work done however it's extremely dissapointing to me that there will be no Dashboard update this spring..
Also, can something be done to bring MS Points costs for canada in-line with the US costs, given that our currency is worth the same now...
What a bunch of crap.
Larry,
Please find out if the DRM tool will fix my licenses for things I bough on my premium that now will not work since I upgraded to the elite.
Thank you
I agree with cyclone. The updates justify spending money on the service and keep people interested.
Delisting seems like a really poor idea. I understand the idea behind it, but it would serve everyone better if those titles were hidden away a bit instead.
People keep buying machines and there's only one place you can buy an XBLA title, so if you're late to the party you've lost out for good? That seems like a pretty bad move if you ask me. A game like Space Giraffe is an utterly brilliant game that only a relatively low number of people buys - if it were to reach the tipping point it would be a great loss to the XBLA service. That is of course just one example out of many.
It's logical that you want to promote bestsellers and keep the shelves tidy so to speak, but just hide the less popular titles a bit out of the way so they are at least still available.
im happy to see the drm issues being fixed but i am very disappointed with the no spring update news.... and not because there isnt one. because you/ms waited until the last possible second to announce it. this info should have come out in jan or feb that there was going to be no spring update. for somebody who prides themselves in community communication it was a total bush league move and something id expect from sony not ms (seeing as they are new to this whole blog thing).
