This should be a good one.... Thanks.
- games that cost 1600MP must give 400 gamerscore points, it's the natural (and correct) evolution of the service;
- you can remove the demo for the XBLA games that don't perform well instead of delisting, who really wants them must buy them directly (for 200MP).
I see smoke and mirrors. So I go to this persons house to check out something I was gonna buy. They smoke in the house! I walk into the kitchen. The walls are this dingy yellow, ahhm, just going on presumption here I am thinking the paint is supposed to be white.
I can't take it anymore. They said they needed to paint. I said, "I think you need to stop smoking!"
I can't take people anymore, hopefully this podcast makes my day!
Ugggh!
Hopefully this will answer some of your questions. Thanks for downloading the show.
The reason we don't mention it is because there is no reason to go over it twice...once at the beginning of the show and then again in the interview. We were both very aware of the dicussion on the internet about this.If you listen to the interview, you'll hear us go into pretty deep detail.
Looking forward to it!
Thanks Major.
Did you complete GTA IV Major?
Good show, but I didn't really learn anything new about delisting the XBLA games or the DRM tool.
1. Why does everyone take it out on Major? If you want to say something say it against MS not Major like its his fault for giving us the news (good or bad). If it wasn't for him we would be in the dark.
2. On that note. Frankly I don't care anyways about Arcade because the games cost to much. If its 1600 I never buy period. If its 800 MAYBE I'll buy it if REALLY good and has replay value and stuff like that. But thats rare. I only own like 6 Arcade games. I'd pay anything under 600. Especially when its an old game like Golden Axe. Yeah its a great game but its still OLD. Stop jacking the price for profit.
Thank You, Major! I'm so glad to hear the DRM tool is getting released soon. I have to say that has impressed me greatly. It was pretty frustrating I must say.
Saying you saw the "tool" and hearing ooooo and ahhhh sounds was kindy creepy! :|
Waiting for the update discussion Norrath!
And DavidGX bring back the smiling face Dude!!! Even though info so far doesn't validate you actually using the smiling face!!!
Please, do it now. I need to see it!!!
Greenberg talking about "SPECIAL SAUCE????"
Creepy!!! I think this is the Barry influence! Unfortunately!!!
Next section: How to bring the Hip Hop Crew to the 360!
LAUGHTER! We are funny! Which one is the first one to go! The community is funny! Cyberball!
360: 17,000 (Wal-Mart)
PS3: 600 (Quicky-Mart)
Wii: 200 (7-11) I guess the Wii will get a HDD at some point!
Norrath! Major just said no Spring Update this year? Intersting!
Aaron Greenberg interview starts at around 52 min
hi thanks for posting this major! cant wait to listen to it although it would be nice if it was posted 1 or 2 hours earlier. Its 2am over here but luckily i was awake so i'll get to listen to ure podcast earlier than normal. Its great your finally bringing out that toolkit as ive had the RROD and ive moved up to the elite so the download history thing doesnt actually work for me so hopefully this toolkit will work. I hope that you make other improvements to the service *cough* non p2p gaming *cough* although i do understand that it will a big task it would improve live for the better.
The show didn't really give much more information about the lack of a dashboard update, it just said "The team was really busy making the systems more stable." The service should be stable anyway, you should have a team making sure that the service is stable at all times, not choose between either an update, or decent service.
Major have you ever thought about lifecasting?
That's a looong show. Gonna have to get prepared before I listen to it. Oh, and woot! for Trixie appearances ;)
Show may be corrupted on iTunes?
Nvm, I had to download it 4 times for it to save though, I wonder why?
RE: "Cleaning the shelves"
The point isn't that it's like a retail store cleaning the shelves - our point is that Digital Distribution IS NOT like a retail store! That's the point! If you can still download it after purchase and still tell someone about a game and have them download it through a "Tell a friend" feature then what is the point of removing it in the first place?
You have all these categories which make searching somewhat easier, but Microsoft's claim is that this is "making it easier for other people to find a game". So by saving a gamer 3 seconds of time your inconveniencing a developer now? It's absurd. The better thing to do would be to rework the actual search system in the first place - make a text search, have more categories - Delisting is the last thing you should be thinking about! Perhaps a rating system akin to the Wii Nintendo Channel, or a rating like the iTunes store!
All it feels like is someone in marketing wanted to remove "bad" games. The problem is that you're using Metacritic - and critics review XBLA titles far less than regular titles (15 reviews for Word Puzzle, 60 for Project Gotham 4) and so the actual pool isn't nearly big enough. Most of the lower selling games are not FOR game reviewers at all! Look at Word Puzzle or other casual games - they get poor reviews but they're not FOR me! Much like Asteroids or Centipede aren't for me - they're for people who were 'there'.
I've written an article over at my blog XBLAH, and I'd like everyone to read it:
http://www.xblah.net/2008/05/rant-mode-microsoft-to-start-delisting.html">www.xblah.net/.../rant-mode-microsoft-to-start-delisting.html
I did like the slip that Greenberg said of "We found most people downloading XBLA titles actually own the Elite / Pro skews with a HDD". Then what's the point of the Arcade Skew!?

Nice.
The option to "Viral share delisted games will be great and fans of the games could share invites.
This helps alot.
So when is the drawing of e coming up?
Frankly, no spring update is a cop out.
It sounds like you guys had no intention of releasing a spring update because the resources where used for the DRM fix and to fix the back end of live.
So why wait to the last week of spring to announce there will be no spring update?
You have always indicated that there will be two updates a year and this was a major selling point of your platform. In fact, if we use the Australia Laws as an example, you have breached the Trade Practises Act by saying you would do one thing, but clearly doing something else.
Great show Major. One question about the DRM tool since you said you've seen it. Do you know if it'll be able to distinguish Marketplace items bought on a console from different gamertags? Reason I ask is I used to use my housemates 360 before I had one and got myself some Arcade games etc, but so did my housemate, and now I have my own, I want my DRM moved to my own console, but not affect his. Is this gonna be possible?
Do a live show at PAX!!!! Post pictures of it on MN.com.
