Xbox LIVE Member SniperED007 used the XNA tools and whipped himself up a nice little project that has all the sights and sounds of a nice wintery fireplace. You can see video of Fireplace at XNA.com, and you can add the demo directly to your Xbox 360 download queue*. According to SniperED007, Fireplace will allow you to ‘Enjoy the awesome ambiance of a crackling fireplace in your living room. With realistic smoldering embers and flickering flames it sets the perfect backdrop for a relaxing evening.’ The full version will cost you 400 points.

If that dude was smart, and if MS would actually let him, he should price it at $1 (80 MS points?) and he'd probably sell 50x what he would at 400 points. $1 is the magic price for iPhone apps on iTunes. When apps go on sale for $1 the sales go through the roof from people who wouldn't spend $3 or $4 for the same app.

While it's a cool idea, I can't see myself paying 400 points for it when our local TV station broadcasts a nice fireplace video every Christmas morning.

I think it is pretty cool; I just thing the issue is with the price - for 200 I would most definitely get it, but then again I'm dorky like that.
I guess it's not a bad idea. There's something similar (iYule) for iPods, iTunes, Zunes, Apple TV, etc, but at least there some of the $5 goes to charity...

What the crack? Who came up with charging for this. I guess people would make anything in XNA and put it on marketplace to make a quick buck. This should be free. Guess 12 million people on XBox Live will pass this up while maybe a million or 2 would actually buy it. As for me there are better things to spend 400 MSP on in Marketplace like actual Live Arcade titles and 360 Game Add-ons.
