          $60 a year isn’t trivial, even if you only bought xbl on sale for $35 a year, this gen alone you flushed half a next gen console down the toilet. MSRP of XBL gold is $60 a year, if you are like me and been here since the original xbox you would have lost $400+ which is about how much a 360 was at launch.

      Go ahead and switch. You do know that the PS4 is going to start charging for online play right? Read what Kotaku had to say (they’re been right about every other rumor.) “Orbis is also following the path first set by Xbox Live: our source says ‘most’ of the PS4′s online features will require a premium subscription to use.”

        Online play is free on PS3. Netflix, Youtube, etc., don’t require a sub on top of a sub to use with PS3.

        What PS4 does in the future is the future, Playstation Plus is currently killing Gold without even adding online play or stuff you already pay for (number one console for Netflix use).

          I’ve told you this before Curtis.. common sense and business sense would agree that the liklihood of this happening with PSN is pretty high man. How do you think they are going to support Gaikai’s cloud streaming and all these other host of features like remote play, sharing video clips etc?

      not personally against it but not fond of playing for online either; casual gamer now and don’t see the point of having to pay to play Kinect Sports online

    Dear Major,it’s time to announce the next xbox and when you do I hope it’s very,very different from the leak of vgleaks otherwise for me is “jump out”.A GPU of 1,2 Tflops would be ridiculous for the end of 2013 the same for 8 GB DDR3.I expect a next xbox with high graphics performance as it was for the xbox 1 and 360.
    I hope you listened to Epic and Crytek and put into the xbox next a GPU of 2+ Tflops and 8 GB GDDR5.The right choice is to concentrate on a HW with high performance and new exclusive AAA for pad otherwise the next xbox will be a WiiU 2.
    The Kinect 2 does not affect users that has made the 360 ​​a success,the flop in sales of Fable the Journey and the majority of the games for kinect shows it very well.

      The Major has to watch what he says if he answered your question directly i can see the gaming headlines worldwide… eg Major nelson says ps4 stats suck or … Major melson says ps4 stats are amazing which then would be twisted out of all proportion.

        even if he knew the specs the NDA wouldn’t let him say it either way. all the rumors point toward the xbox being a bit weaker than ps4, but it doesn’t matter how strong the system is since MS hasn’t put out many games in the last 5 years.

          Don’t get caught up in specs. Pay attention to games and features. I love having two consoles – each does something different, and each have their proprietary games. PS4 will do some really neat things, and the next Xbox will do what it does. At this point, the law of diminishing returns says the technology will be very close when it comes to processors and graphics. It’s what you do with that technology that makes all the difference.

            you are right, though the ps3 is more powerful than 360 it is so hard to develop for few games actually look better on ps3, but with the new ps4 architecture that will change, the 360 has been moving more and more toward a casual console, with few games for gamers aside halo and gears, which are tired out now.

            The thing is, I, and almost everyone else who has supposed xbox the past decade, are gamers, we came over to xbox or the hardcore games like kotor, morrowind, and halo, 360 we got it because the original was so awesome, early titles like kameo were great, but somewhere around 2008 or so xbox started to dwindle in the game department and after kinect was announced pretty much stopped, when the old guard leaves there won’t be much left for MS, I don’t think casuals will adopt the next console.

            I’ll say this….I’ve been involved in events like that and Sony did a great job puling it off. The PS4 certainly looks like it has some promise, and I look forward to seeing how things progress.

            How does it look promising all I saw was tech demos(could been cgi) a controller and PlayStation Kinect. They didn’t even show what the console looks like and they said it could be backwards compatible not enough to say they done a good job

    highly doubt it’s true, I don’t think you will have to pay to play online, but maybe you will to use the share stuff, but get this, it will also probably be bundled into PSN+ which is light years ahead of XBL gold membership, with PSN+ you pay for bonus stuff, xbl gold you pay to play online. xbox fanboys need to get a grip, stop defending BS or the company won’t change. want better games on xbox? stand up and complain instead of saying “oh i’l just pay for online still and play multiplatform games”

    Major, the quality of your download podcast his….horrible. Every time I try to play the downloadable version I get a broken-up recording, but the stream works perfectly.
