    Looking forward to this episode!

  • Volitar Prime

It is great that tweaks are still being done to the hardware to improve performance. But is it going to be enough to make a noticeable difference? The XBOne costs 25% more than the PS4 and it would be great if that price difference showed in the form of better system performance than the competition, not just the addition of the Kinect.

    • DigitalSyrup

The one thing I’m waiting to see is the cloud processing for AI and graphics. If it works the way they say it’s supposed to, then that 25% price premium is worth it.

      • usrev

I can’t believe people are falling for the cloud processing thing still.

        • chris

why? becuase its real and digital its 20% difference, 25×4 is 100, one is 400 and one is 500, the difference is not 25%

    • Brian

Kinect is a huge expense. I don’t understand why everyone wants to ignore it or thinks it shouldn’t add to the cost.

      • Todd Wegman

I am looking forward to xbox one and kinect 2.0, but I am concerned now that Kinect Sports Rivals is delayed will there be any games that utilize the kinect at launch. I want a game that truly tracks your movement- playing a game is based on true skill – hopefully the delay with Rivals will be worth the wait… not sure what the kinect will offer until then…

        • Death Dealer

Motion control wise I don’t think so, but Dead Rising 3 uses it for sound localization to distract zombies for example.

      • usrev

because the majority don’t want kinect. it’s a useless expense atm. out of everyone I know who has kinect 0 people use it.

  • DarkMaturus

Any super tech nerds here? What does a 53mhz boost do to performance?

    • Buc_Nasty

I don’t Know. But if it can IMPROVE RYSE even more it will be really good

    • usrev

it’s very little improvement but improvement non the less. if it were on pc it would be maybe 1-2 fps increase at best. since it’s xbox idk.

  • http://gamingirl.com Twinkling82

Oh please don’t tell me you’re dropping soundcloud. I came here through a newspost on kotaku, and I wondered why my phone didn’t notify me on a new podcast from you guys.

  • Dennis Crosby

This podcast isn’t up to download on Zune yet

  • tr1gger

Only 53mhz? MS you are idiots! PS4 is still a lot more powerful.

    • Death Dealer

No, John Carmack is yet another developer that made clear that the systems are pretty much equal.

      • WondrngAbout

John Carmack wants to publish multi-platform games. Multi platform games always try to look similar on all machines, this is a phenomenon that has been around for a while. In some cases they even reduce quality on one device for that purpose. Everybody has their motivations when making statements like that. He wants to sell games on both platforms :)

    • Nick Peck

Someone that has not idea about hardware haha. let me guess, for you it would need to have a 2ghz “upgrade” to be good right? Adding another 53mhz the each cores clock speed is pretty significant.

    • roozbeh

do you know john carmack? you know the guy who made fps games possible?
he says their very much alike. the ps4 is not that more powerful.

      • tr1gger

John Carmack said that the systems are CLOSE but not equal. 1.3 Tflops vs 1.84 Tflops is a big difference.

        • Death Dealer

Nobody has the real numbers as nobody knows the highly customized internal architecture of the Xbox One SoC. It’s all based on calculations of standard parts, not real time performance.

        • roozbeh

and do you think it will make a difference? they will be the same.
plus dont shove me with numbers. the ps3 was supposedly more powerful. we saw how that worked.
if i cared about specs i would go buy a gtx titan for my pc

          • tr1gger

I do not want to buy a console for $499, which is weaker than the console for $399.

          • Nick Peck

Good, then please leave the site if you have no interest :D

          • roozbeh

            okay. good luck with that

        • Sledg

You need to realize that hardware and software coexists. Just because you have better hardware does not mean it runs better. Take a look at Android.

          • Volitar Prime

But this this case since both systems are pretty much the same architecture the difference in performance will be noticeable.

          • Sledg

ROFL! You really have no idea what you are talking about.

        • Kieran

It would only matter if all games were playable on both the PS4 and XB1. This isn’t the case though.

New Battlefield and Fifa 14 will look identical on both machines. So for me specs are not as important as price.

      • usrev

actually the ps4 is a lot more powerful. and that power isn’t locked behind cell. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some games post launch be 60fps on ps4 and 30fps on xbox one.

  • roozbeh

6.62 percent increase if eurogamer is correct. not that much but still very good.
    thank you microsoft for improving

    • Xboner2013

Here nor there, did they even release what the specs were? they claim an upclock of 53MHz, up from ?

The leaked specs plus this upclock would be 853MHz, which would make it a 1.31TFlops GPU. It does help close the gap to the PS4 but that is at 1.84TFlops.

Competition, imho would be a Xbox one in the $325-350 range not $499.

  • Boss

Yea and this my Reasons why I’m buying a Xbox One

    1.Mod support
    2.Cloud Processing (300 000 dedicated servers)
    3.Smart-Match and advanced match making
    4.Unlimited cloud storage
5.Kinect 2.0 has some great potential
    6.Great Games like QuantumBreak,Titanfall and DeadRising 3
    7.Dynamic achievements.
    8.Improved controller
    10.Xbox Smartglass
11.Plug in External Devices such as your PC and Xbox 360
    12.External Storage via USB 3.0
    13.unlimited friends list
14.Every Retail Xbox One is a devkit.
    15.Improved Reputation System
    16.Customizable UI

    • Death Dealer

Indeed, and for me added to that the devkit ability that allows you to do with your hardware what you want.
I am going to port some emulators to be able to run on the Xbox One and I’ll make the code public once I deem them fit for release towards their public sourcebase.

    • Joseph

      customizable ui?

      • Tomo

Look at the screenshots of the new Xbox dashboard on Xbox One. You can add and remove tiles.

    • Victor

illumiroom? When was this an oficial feature??

      • Death Dealer

Not yet, but it’s surely coming once the parts will be cheaper.

        • Victor

Yea don’t think that developers gonna use it all that much if it gonna be even an option. It takes console resorces and that isn’t in x1 fawor. For me it is hard to ge exited for anything ms is now saying and I love my 360.

          • Death Dealer

It doesn’t require much resources and the Wi-Fi Direct for fast wireless data transfer is already integrated in the Xbox One.
Read the pdf at MS Research.
            http://research Microsoft com/en-us/projects/illumiroom/IllumiRoom_CHI2013_BJones.pdf
It’s the price that is holding it back now.

      • boe2

To be honest, I’d rather want Oculus Rift support than Illumiroom. The hardware would be equally expensive anyway.

    • Guest

illuminiroom is canceled for the xbox one.

      • Death Dealer

I’m serious Major. If there’s one guy that deserves a ban it’s this guy HyperTallih or Hype R Freeze. He has been spamming this blog and harassing Jason Voorhees for weeks and yesterday hacked his Disqus account.

        • Nick Peck

Just downvote and flag, it helps :D His comments should go away soon.

    • Kieran

Price drop is needed. Sony is getting more pre-orders than Microsoft worldwide.

I am holding out till gamescom then i’ll make my decision what console i’ll buy.

      • Guest

Hmmm. What would you like more? Your favorite company to make a loss on release so it can’t provide you with more content, or to make a profit so it can and give you a better experience?

      • Michael Destefanis

I’m not sure a price drop is actually needed considering that even with Sony and investing the funds in the camera, the xbox one is only about $40 more in the end. I think what’s needed most is not requiring the Kinect to be plugged in just to boot the system. It’s poor design to lock your hardware down to what is by definition an optional accessory. Those on this board I’ve seen say it is mandatory… not true considering MS has already stated the thing can be disabled outright including it’s listening for the “xbox one” command. So.. if I have an option to disable the entire thing it becomes an optional accessory…which means there’s no logical reason to require it to be connected just to start it up.

While I’m confident most people won’t have actual hardware issues with the Kinect, there will be people that will. It’s just the nature of electronics and flaws in manufacturing that cannot be avoided on each and every unit. In out of warranty situations this means spending another $100 just to play your console again even if you don’t make use of the Kinect. And no.. the answer is not to “just use it then”. In in-warranty situations this means being without use of the console until MS receives your Kinect, processes it, fixes or replaces it and then you receive it via mail. It took MS just shy of 1 month to send me back a controller that had failed with a new one they simply gave me.

So overall you’re still getting a decent value and the $499 price point is fair for what you get and may not be EXACT to what Sony is offering but within $40… it’s still comparable.

    • usrev

      1. nope
      2. dedicated servers are great but won’t actually do anything beyond being a dedicated server
      3. is pointless, matches are found in seconds usually on 360 unless its SLOWER on xbox one then smart match is pointless
      4. this is good
      5. yes it does, but we will see.
      6. eh…. titanfall and project spark are the only games that looked good from xbox to me.
      7. actually devalue achievements more than they are already.
      8. ps4 controller seems to be loved by xbox fans, so we will see which one is better.
      you have no number 9.
      10. no thanks to smart glass.
      11. you can do this with 360 and ps3 and ps4 iirc.
      12. is it unlimited this time? since the 32 artificially limits it to like 32gb. plus external storage is the ONLY option for xbox one since the hard drive can’t be replaced like on ps4.
      13. same as ps4
      14. we will see how this pans out.
      15. which quite frankly sounds like a gimmick
      16. you mean we can remove all the useless adds from the dashboard?!?
      17. no where near done and probably won’t be on xbox one. if it is it will be junk like kinect 1.0

I’l take the fanboys downvotes now.

    • Xboner2013

Mod support – no real details
Cloud processing – sorry, that cloud processing lie will not die
Smart Match – been available since 2006 on XBL, old version true skill
Unlimited cloud storage – to store what? No such thing as unlimited
Kinect 2 – waste of time
Great games – titanfall looks promising
      Dynamic achievements – really
Improved controller – always liked the xbox controller other than the original
      xbox smartglass – nothing burger
Plug in – Don’t know anything about that
      External Storage – standard
Unlimited friends list – I do not have unlimited friends
Every Retail Xbox is a devkit – no details at all on that
Improved Reputation System – nothing burger
Customizable UI – might be cool
Illumiroom – just dumb, get a real projector

I am not sold on a PS4 but at $500, I think MS should think of a $100-175 drop in price.

      • xxtray90xx

Lol you spelled gaystation website wrong and ended up here

        • Xboner2013

          Okay.

      • Lucas Sanches Cestari

        comment getting deleted in 3…2…1…

      • roozbeh

and you just disregarded every cool feature about the xbox one.
i can get you dont like the price but WTF man? those features are cool.

  • José

Thanks Major, lets download the Podcast!

  • Guest

nice adverting something from sony.. xbox done.

    • Death Dealer

Hey look guys, it’s resident pauperfanboy Hypertallih again!

      • roozbeh

he feels threatened now. just ignore him. he will die alone soon enough

    • Joshua Guss

Let me finish that sentenies off for you; XBOX done an excellent job.

  • Ilovegoogleglass

Announce Illumiroom and the Xbox one will be superior!

    • Death Dealer

I agree, they should at least just announce that it is coming, even if it is late 2014 and the price will be announced later.

    • Dylan

The Oculus Rift is much more impressive.

      • roozbeh

that would be subjective dont you think?

personally i think there both fantastic peripherals. but the rift is a bit like 3d glasses for me. its kinda nauseating.

        would love having both though

        • Dylan

Subjective sure, but the Illumiroom isn’t much more than projecting snow and such around you.

With the Rift, you’re actually IN the action, not surrounded by a basic projected environment.

The Rift is so much more than just 3D glasses.

And the nausea depends on the game’s integration. I think playing a game like Mirrors Edge might be after playing for 5 hours.

It all depends on the developer actually fully integrating the Oculus.

          • roozbeh

when i said its like 3d glasses i meant that the device like 3d glasses for me cause a bit a nausea after i use them for a while. could be my eyes because i where glasses but thats what i think of it.
but lllumiroom is a projector correct. but it does more then snow and aesthetics. it expands the field of view as well which i find cool.

          • Dylan

You might be able to use your glasses in the consumer version.

            From their kickstarter:
Can I wear glasses while using the Rift developer kit?

This really depends on the shape and size of the glasses. The developer kit is designed to sit as close to your eyes as possible which makes it a bit unfriendly for glasses. That said, we’ll do everything we can to make it as comfortable as possible for the developer kit and we have a lot of great ideas for supporting glasses in the consumer version (especially since huge portion of the Oculus team wears glasses everyday!).

          • roozbeh

            Thanks!
Im more open minded about the rift now.

          • Dylan

Yeah, hopefully the consumer version works for everyone.

  • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

Any idea of how the deidcated server and cloud power should really help about lag ? Didn’t heard anything on that and seriously, since “lag compensation” was integrated in some game, i often find myself being on the bad side of lag. It made me quit some game and i’m just hopefull something will be done.

And no, having region based match is not the ultimate solution. In my area you internet speed range from <1mb down and 30k up to 200mb down and 5mb up so proximity is not the only deal breaker. And yes, speed have some impact on latency.

    • Death Dealer

Dedicated servers is a more “honest” way of serving a game as there is no host advantage. For the amount of lag, the reduction is in the global dispersion of the Azure datacenters and nodes (so that there is a more evenly distributed game connection) and it’s also the reason the Xbox One only releases in the countries that have Azure. MS want to be able to guarantee quality of service.

      • Jack Davidson

The problem is, these “Dedicated Servers” are rumored(from reliable sources from what I understand) to be VIRTUAL servers. So im not expecting much.

        • Death Dealer

No, they’re definitely physical. You’ll need to take my word for it as I know someone who works at the Azure farm in Amsterdam.
The virtual server number is greater than 3 million and virtual versus physical also makes no different for hosting games with current virtualization technology, so don’t worry.

          • Jack Davidson

LAWL, so take some random guy on the internets words :P

        • turk3y

Troll fail here, if you think somehow virtual makes things bad automatically perhaps you want to skip both next gen consoles which are in effect virtual also.

          • Xboner2013

Dedicated servers are up to the developer/publisher, and no, not all games will have dedicated servers.

Azure uses virtualization, technically dedicated servers really don’t exist in Azures. As there are pools of servers, they than have the ability to slice off what they need.

      • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

“host advantage” have been something non-existant to me. I COD game right now, i can tell i’m the host because i lag really bad, and 9 time out of 10 when i feel im the host and i leave, i see a host migration. To me, lag compensation have made it really bad. It’s an answer full of hope that you deliver.

    • Kieran

In theory the closer you are to the dedicated servers (where there housed and managed) the better the connection.

  • WondrngAbout

I will pre-order a XBOX One, but I would have hoped for bolder steps in terms of performance improvement.
The goal should have been to beat Sony clearly – not to add 6%-7%.
Being a “cloud guy” myself (Azure ftw), I have to say that “Cloud processing” is something the competition can add after the release, but the pure hardware specs will stay the same for the at least 5, if not 7-8 years lifespan of the console.

    • Cole Mickens

Which is why in 5-7-8 years, looking back, a small disparity in GPU performance is going to be laughable compared to things that actually matter for game devs and players which has more to do with publishing support, ecosystem, Xbox Live, and more that MS is working very actively to make a key part of Xbox One.

People nitpicking specs on Xbox One remind me of people nitpicking specs on smartphones that they then use exclusively to check Facebook and take pictures of food.

  • david_hoyland

Now announce a price “adjustment”, 12gb of ram and headset included in the box at gamescom and I think you just may turn the tide in your favour.

    #believe

  • Charles

The Xbox One has been getting a lot of great news lately. I think that is what was missing in the beginning….good news and good communication. But now we are getting both, and that is awesome. The Xbox One just keeps getting better. And it might not seem like a huge increase, but it shows improvements. And it also shows that everything is being optimized to its full potential. I was excited. Now I am even more excited.

  • Daryl Aiken

Glad I have my pre-order for the Xbox one. Can’t wait.

  • Charles

It will be cool to be able to surf the web while waiting for a match.

    • Morris ヅ

that snap feature is going to be very handy son i tell ya

  • Michael Destefanis

I really do want to get on board with this console but to me it still makes little sense to allow someone to turn off the Kinect functionality (such as those of us who aren’t going to be talking out loud to our console to turn it on or for navigation.) and still require that the console be tied down to what is by definition an accessory. Accessories fail just like any other piece of hardware and I’m thinking long term here. The last thing I would need is for the Kinect to even possibly fail and me be locked out of using the console because the Kinect is broken and needs either warranty repair or for me to shell out cash to replace it out of warranty. To me it’s like being locked out of the console if a headset breaks.

I’m really not trying to sound nit picky on this but I really do see this as a significant issue and basically tying down a console to an accessory that is more or less optional makes little sense at all.

    • Denverdood

Kinect, like any piece of electronics could fail.

I use Xbox voice commands constantly. I’m so used to doing it that I forget my Xbox is off and I’m giving my DVR voice commands. Which don’t work…lol.

      X1 preordered, I can’t wait.

      #Reinvented

      • Michael Destefanis

Yup, that’s my point exactly. If the Kinect fails, you’re either buying a replacement device or shipping it off for potential warranty service. Since the Kinect can be disabled according to MS even down to the “xbox on” command it listens for, there’s just no logical reason in locking down the main piece of hardware to an optional accessory someone can simply disable in the first place. That’s when it becomes suspicious because honestly this not a practice that’s generally done on quality product. Hell even cheap product I don’t see this happen with. Don’t get me wrong I feel it’s more about MS trying to “force” Kinect to the system to entice more people to buy into the Kinect enabled gaming but it’s just bad design to tie up your main hardware to an accessory like this.

    • Costas

..typed on a laptop with a built-in camera. ( or a cellphone, or an I pad etc)

      • Volitar Prime

The cameras in my laptop and smartphone are not always active collecting marketing data.

        • xxtray90xx

          You don’t know that

          • Xboner2013

Actually I do. You do know that some people monitor and firewall their network and see where data is going, right?

          • xxtray90xx

U better watch your mouth big ole evil MS and nsa are watching you like a hawk!!! Don’t break law and when u masturbate cover ya webcam lmaoo

          • xxtray90xx

Lol ms and da nsa are monitoring you monitor your firewall becuz they wanna watch what your doing right? Lmaoo

          • Costas

            Of course I don’t.
But do you think the majority of the complainers don’t own at least one of these devices and complain through them?

        • Costas

So how exactly a turned off Kinect ,could collect marketing data from you?
Would it watch what you eat and show you a mcDonalds ad when you turn your xbox on?
          Please explain to me.
          Give me just one example

          • Volitar Prime

That is pretty much what they want to do. Watch and listen to what you are doing and use that marketing data for target ads. And the Kinect is never off when the system is on. So whenever you are playing a game or watching a movie it is watching and listening to you.

          • Costas

Lol. No it’s not. And even if it was , you wouldn’t know ,because simply Xbox one is not out yet.

There are a lot of easier and cheaper ways to collect marketing data from you.

What you are saying is that they would have to hire A LOT of people to actually watch and listen 4 million people , just so they can show you an ad. (That’s a lot of jobs )

Also ,let’s go with your logic and say this happens.
You re eating a burger , and suddenly you see on Xbox a mcDonalds ad.
Or you say, oh I have to get some new shoes and BAM, Nike commercial.
Don’t you think people would notice these coincidences if that were to happen? The only marketing data they can collect from you is , for example if you re playing COD, you will get a new FPS game ad.
Or if you watched a horror movie on Netflix you get another horror movie ad.
We should be worried about our laptop cameras or our cellphones with GPS locators which cover a bigger demographic , not Kinect which covers just gamers .
Now the thing I hate about Kinect is Kinect itself , because I hate motion gaming. MS should make a version of Kinect with just the mic ( since voice commands are so important to them)

          • Volitar Prime

Why do you think that people would have to be watching/listening? This kind of marketing data collection is all automated, it is software based.

The stuff about what game you are playing or movie you are watching is already being done with the XB360 without the need for the Kinect. They are already pushing targeted ads to the XB360 dashboard based on this collected data (it is the recommended ads). The next level to this is using the Kinect to watch/listen to you to collect even more marketing data.

Typed on a desktop with no camera. ;) Also laptops with built in cameras including phones and iPads start up and function just fine even if the camera has failed.

Please, make more sense in your comments before typing such non-sense, Costas. I do actually have some experience with hardware engineering not to mention I was in fact part of the team that developed the Kindle Fire HD. So I think I know exactly what I’m talking about when I’m mentioning the drawbacks of locking down a system to be dependent on what is by nature an optional accessory.

MS has already stated the Kinect CAN be disabled which includes not needing to use the “xbox on” command to power on the system. Therefore with it being disabled, regardless of how revamped the accessory is, it is pointless to make it mandatory to simply start up the system and play a game that does not utilize Kinect functionality as a requirement to play the game.

  • turk3y

    Hey Major,
With digital distribution being the big thing this coming generation will you be covering the digital store policies or business direction. Will there be digital “bundles” of games at launch, a clear path for older games to reduce in cost as they do in retail or a price match to retail plan to keep it competitive and vibrant. Many folks myself included want to go digital but fear digital will be 5$ over rrp while retail is often 20% less than rrp at launch and only gets cheaper making it financially unwise to bother with digital especially as there is no resale value either.

    • Boss

They can’t sell cheaper than retail shops or they won’t stock their games as people will just purchase the digital copy instead

      • slasaru

I agree that games at launch should cost the same, but they could have reduce the price with the time passing by. For example, how much costs retail Halo 4 now and on demand? Twice of difference. Old game crackdown 2 costs as hell on demand. And many of such games. I see no justification for this. You dont even need plastic, paper and logistics network for outdated digital content

        • Boss

Would love to see Steam like sales every week where games are like $10-20

          • xPutNameHerex

I doubt every week (that’s just not financially viable in most cases), but their seems to be a recent trend for “a week sale once every 3-4 months” with Games on Demand recently.

        • Namsel

The best example is Gears of War Judgment. 60$!! on Games on Demand. WTF!?

      • Alphapapa

But there is a gamble (small) with going all digital plus there is not packaging and the retail shop that gets a cut of the sale. Microsoft wanted to go all in on digital with their original policies. What better way to promote digital than start out $5-10 cheaper than in box. Better for the environment too with no physical disc.

      • Sledg

I agree but I also think retail stores need to think ahead because digital is coming and there’s nothing they can do to change it. What they need to do is compete on a digital level. There should be a way for Amazon, Gamestop, etc to sell digital games just as MS will. Now that should open up some great pricing wars.

    • ARkicktect

Great question, as I plan on going all digital as well. The benefits of having access to my entire library when I travel is a big bonus for me. I will only need to bring along my controller, as I’ll be able to access my account from any XB1 console.

So since the policies changed, will all XB1 games be available digitally on its release date? If so I can cancel my pre orders at GameStop for Forza5, DR3 and download from the Games on Demand section of the Marketplace.

      • Not_A_PC_Gamer

Sorry but the benefits of having access to your entire library isn’t worth the price we pay when we don’t actually own our games and can access them 10 or 20 years down the road like we can with disks.

    • Morris ヅ

not just that tho we should be able to pre order digitally and get pre order bonuses ect then il go diggy to

      • winter

So true!! That’s what I said not too long ago!!! We should be able to pre-order Limimted / Collectors Editions of games digitally, and get the digital copy, then have the physical stuff shipped to us. :D

    • Not_A_PC_Gamer

I will never go all digital until forced to do so. I don’t care if a game is 20 bucks more on disk.. I’m always buying physical because I’m a collector. I wouldn’t count on digital games working years down the line either after all online support is done with. We might not be able to get our game title updates (which is needed to use our save game files if created post update) or our dlc if and when that happens.

Either way, On both PS4 and Xbox One.. I’m going all physical, the only exceptions being xbla and psn titles that won’t be available on disk. As you can tell, I’m not a fan of steam or this digital future if DRM revokes our right to ownership.

      • turk3y

I don’t understand the logic here, getting title updates or saves have nothing to do with content delivery mechanism or license key. If you think Microsoft would revoked a key via drm they would be just as capable of revoking your physical disk, check King Kong demo on DVDr on 360 for an example of the possibility. Games will use the cloud more and more so what you have on the disk will become less and less of the “game”. The old system was perfect for many physical disks so collectors editions but digital benefits.

        • Not_A_PC_Gamer

Let me explain it better. the license key is not going to be available forever and it’s directly related to the delivery mechanism. Unless the xbox you have is the one your originally downloaded these things on, you will have to use the license transfer tool to make sure your digital games, title updates and DLC will work offline forever. Otherwise once those servers go bye bye.. You can kiss your digital collection bye bye.

Don’t really understand what else you are getting at.. Let me know If I can explain things further..

        • Not_A_PC_Gamer

I just replied to you and now I don’t see my post anywhere. This isn’t the first time this has happened here..

Why exactly don’t you understand the logic here? Getting title updates and the license key itself are all related to the content delivery mechanism. Basically if you are not online, you don’t get either. The best way to prepare your console to make sure your games last forever is to use the license transfer tool (only if your current console isn’t the first one that downloaded the items), get the title updates that save to your hdd (MS’s silly temporary cache is a piss poor excuse to be holding our title updates due to the fact it only holds so many of them and will delete the previous ones when the cache is filled up) and to back up your saves to the cloud and a usb stick along with all dlc and any title update that is stored on the hdd.

I was very polite just as you were and I have no idea why my post was deleted. Anyhow I’ll deal with the digital nonsense when the time comes, thank god MS reversed the DRM policies.

  • WARLORD

Ya I would say GPU as well. I don’t get people going nuts on the whole RAM thing. Most top end PC games only use about 4 to 5 gigs on the graphics card mainly 4.

  • slasaru

There are RUMOURS that xbox one could have 12 Gb of RAM because this is the ram qty they provide in devkits. On the other hand, there is a rumour that a regular xbox consoles could be used as dev kits later, so no 12 Gb RAM then ))

    • Joe Burnett

It’s not a rumor they can be used as dew kits. It was announced already by Microsoft. Just a matter of when.

  • david_hoyland

Useful yes but also impossible at this late stage.

  • david_hoyland

I have pre ordered so the price was “okay” for me but I feel it’s far from ideal for the masses.

I’m from the UK so can only comment on the price here of £429. That’s a lot of money. Even if MS can’t price match Sony they should still look at bringing it down if possible.

£399 would still be £50 more expensive than PS4 but looks a lot better than £429. At the current price difference I can only see MS losing market share to Sony.

And yes the headset should be in the box. Not including it is the dumbest thing MS have done with regards to the Xbox One so far in my opinion.

  • roozbeh

    i was checking ign.
Microsofts improves the xbox one. booooooo.
    /faceplam.
    what is wrong with people?

    • Guest

      pauperism.

  • Roberto Merino

“Xbox One GPU core overclocked to 853Mhz from factory”, Meh, wasn’t the cloud the source of the infinite power of the Xbox One?, you always get caugh in your own created hype (lies).

The only thing that today pisses me off about the Xbox One is the fact thay it is noticeabily less technically powerful than the PS4, and also more expensive. (and the fact that you don’t include a miserable headset bundled)

    • roozbeh

its not really that noticeably less powerful. more around 20 percent or so. but for the price you could be right. it matters about what you think of kinect

      • Roberto Merino

20 percent is a LOT, that is the difference of running a game at 60fps or 49 fps, or the difference of runing it at 30fps or 25fps (where it starts hurting the eyes). or if you want to keep the same framerate between platforms, they will have to play some XO games at sub-fullHD resollutions (like 1600×900) or with less detail.

I have been a big fan of Xbox since the last 10 years, but that doesn’t mean i cannot see the fact that this platform has some flaws.

But anyway don’t take my comments the wrong way, i am just a little dissapointed because i was holding the hope to see better GPU than the rumored AMD 7790 in the final product, and this overclock just confirms we will see the same old 7790 GPU, but 6% faster (which does not translate in 6% faster overall performance)

        • roozbeh

the reality of it is we dont know if it will make a freaking difference until release. the 360 had a better gpu but at the end of day you and i both know it didnt make a difference because if that. i will bet you the multiplatforms will look the same. hell even the first parties will not be noticeably different

        • BostonSup

Between the Xbox/PS2 generation and the 360/PS4 generation jumped a HUGE gap in terms of graphics. This generation isn’t about that (though it will still improve on it). This generation is more about being able to include game features that are not possible with this generation.

The price will screw over Microsoft because of the dumb decision to force people to buy and have plugged in the add-on Kinect.

Wait at most a year and you will see that Microsoft will be have to do a PS4 price match with or without the Kinect. That will be when I pick it up.

          • Kieran

100 Euros is a big gap to close. I wonder how they’ll do it.

If Microsoft drop the XB1 price to 399 Microsoft will have good PR right up till the console launches

          • roozbeh

i would say it will be less then 400 actually if they drop kinect.
i doubt it happening though. maybe they will just justify the price gap a bit better.

      • Kieran

If there was a way in the menus of games to up and down graphical performance if you so wished. Then the XB1 would be at disadvantage.

But consoles don’t have that option like you’d have with your PC. So specs rarely matter on consoles.

Mutliplatform games will play almost identical on both the PS4 and XB1.

First party exclusives games For xb1 and PS4 can not be used on both consoles. So arguing about specs is an interesting debate, but its not important really.

Gamers will choose their console because of price and games they like more.

        • roozbeh

          spot on.
specs have never mattered and thats not about to change

          • Death Dealer

There’s also the diminishing returns into effect, it has been for a while. We can make all these higher poly models, but to the naked eye they look virtually identical.

    • Guest

It’s called finalizing the hardware. Yes, the headset not being there sucks, but the rest is just simply better on the Xbox One.

      • Roberto Merino

It is called FEAR against PS4, but anyway this is better than nothing.

I will probably buy the XO first because of launch exclusives, but the console, as a technological product, should be priced cheaper than PS4 in equal bundle. Let’s say Kinect 2 is about 100, and the console is about 400. PS4 is 400, then Xbox One should be priced at about 340+100 (Kinect) = 440, as it is about 20% less powerful and cheaper to produce with cheaper parts.

Don’t get me wrong, i don’t mind paying 500, 600, 800 for a console every 8 years, but paying any amount of money for something that obviously cost less to produce than competitor’s product which sells cheaper, simply doesn’t look like a good deal.

Anyway i would have preferred a Xbox One with a AMD 7990 GPU at 600€ than this half assed specs.

        • boe2

“The platform has flaws” because it doesn’t have the exact same specs as the ps4, what?

Specs have never mattered for the popularity of a console.

          • roozbeh

            THIS^ THIS^ THIS^ THIS^ THIS^ THIS^ THIS^ THIS^

          • Death Dealer

+1! Content and functionality is what matters most and then there is of course the price.

      • Kieran

There looking to bundle a headset with the XB1 so be patient. There also looking at providing an adapter so you can use your X BOX 360 Headsets.

Microsoft lowers the price i’ll get an XB1

    • Kieran

Sony may improve their online experience , but Microsoft is promising dedicated servers for every XB1 game. For online gaming Microsoft is doing everything right.

    • Jarrichvdv

The cloud is not used for GRAPHICS, but for heavy calculations like AI etc.

      • Death Dealer

It can be used for graphics as well. NVidia demonstrated CloudLight just last week.

        • Jarrichvdv

Ok thanks for pointing that out :) That adds to the value of Xbox Live !

In reply to Roberto “Xbox One GPU core overclocked to 853Mhz from factory”, Meh, wasn’t the cloud the source of the infinite power of the Xbox One?, you always get caugh in your own created hype (lies).

They’re making sure you have the most performance out of the hardware that you eventually pay for. Isn’t that a good thing? Because the cloud isn’t always there… Not everyone is always online.

          • Death Dealer

It’s a good thing for sure, but this isn’t chasing Sony like he presents it, it’s simply the finalization of the hardware specifications before mass production. Marc Whitten makes that very clear.
I’m sure most of those Cloud enhancement will remain just that for most games for a while, where your locally processed game is just run at lower detail than with support of the cloud.

        • Kieran

Never going to happen.Streaming graphics to your screen requires you to have a super fast internet connection. The reality is most peoples internet connections would be unable to handle the streaming of graphics from the cloud.

          • roozbeh

watch the trailer then comment about that.
even with a ping of a 1000 they could still process it! thats amazing.

          • Kieran

Post a link i’ll watch the video . Your going to be downloading graphics. I honestly have my doubts it can be done with the current state of internet infrastructure across the western world.

          • roozbeh

watch the comment i just posted prior this

          • Kieran

I just read some bits of an article about it. This will be rendering lighting not complex graphics (images)

          • roozbeh

well, that kinda lightens up the cpu and gpu dont you think?

          • Kieran

Lighting isn’t that tasking on your internet bandwidth. If you were streaming images from the cloud to your console. You would need a super fast internet connection.

          • Death Dealer

Gaikai and OnLive disagree, they are nothing more than image streaming where a game runs entirely on the server. This is a hybrid situation where your game is running locally and additions are made through the cloud.

          • Kieran

If you have the bandwidth. To stream effectively you need at least 2 to 4 meg upload

Try streaming your games on twitch TV with less than 1 meg upload see how far you get

          • Death Dealer

I had less than 1 MB upload and could run OnLive perfectly when I tested it. Streaming content from your own console to the net is something entirely different. Downstream speed is far more important.

          • Kieran

I just watched a video of OnLive. The guy was streaming a car racing gaming and the streaming process was using about 6 to 7 meg download. He was benchmarking i could not see what kind of upload it was using. It was eating up lot of data too.

Lot of people have data limits how would it effect them?

          • Death Dealer

Data caps are always a problem with online gaming. That won’t change.

          • Kieran

OnLive servers are based in America too. How this would work worldwide and on consoles i don’t know?

There might be latency problems with this service and drop in graphical performance.

          • Death Dealer

I live in the Netherlands, it worked fine here and had about 100ms ping, they dynamically reduced graphics according to your connection.
AFAIK OnLive doesn’t do business anymore, but they’ve demonstrated that it works.

          • Kieran

100 ping is terrible for gaming. Can you imagine if this was done for multiplayer oh my god.

          • Death Dealer

Then you’ve never really played multiplayer before. Anything under 100ms is acceptable for most multiplayer games. In the Q3A days I played matches with over 250 ping on dial up and it worked.

          • Kieran

You can play at 100 your experience online will be effected. Lag issues and hit detection i’d cry if my ping was 100 or 200

          • Death Dealer

If you’re in such a privileged position with such a great ping, WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING? Seriously…

          • Kieran

Pings matter when your playing online. Everyone knows that. 100 is way too high for enjoyable experience. Your game would lag at that.

          • roozbeh

again why are you complaining. i have to take that cr@p not you

          • Kieran

I feel sorry for you i really do. I be annoyed with 200 ping.

          • roozbeh

i am annoyed about it. i really really reallly am. i cant state how much im annoyed about it.
but what you want me to do? this is the best connection i can get here.
            so i take it.

          • Kieran

            You playing online in Iran?

          • roozbeh

yes. you gotta problem with that? DO YA?

          • Kieran

I play with a Muslim guy from Bahrain hes studying in Scotland. Hes English is really good too.

          • roozbeh

            DOOO YA? ;D just kidding.
it doesnt matter with who you play. gamers are gamers.

          • Kieran

Anyway i’m off till next time. I’ll be back when there is a price drop hopefully?

          • roozbeh

if your meaning for gamescom i wouldnt count on it.
but prices will drop by next year

          • roozbeh

technically i should be the guy who is supposed to be complaining. but ackwardly i praise this. is there something wrong with me

          • roozbeh

actually its more or less based on your location.
if there are servers that are close to you your ping is not an issue

          • roozbeh

im iran and with a download speed of 1 mb/s and a ping of 200 it worked perfectly.
but i will admit it ate through my traffic

          • Kieran

ping of 200 i would not even bother.

          • roozbeh

            you wouldnt but i would.
            welcome to the third world.
you think i like it? im forced to take this cr@p

          • Kieran

I play some competitive games with other people from the United States and Europe. When i join there games my ping jumps very high. The movement lag is crazy.

          • roozbeh

latency is based on your location and connection and the server location. your in the uk if i am correct. you can get a whole lot more servers than me who is in a online gaming ghost land.

          • Kieran

No i am from Ireland. But my father is French mother Irish.

          • roozbeh

your still pretty close to many game servers.
plus when did i ask about your lineage?

          • Kieran

You thought i was from the UK. i just let you know were i am from!

            No need to get upset.

          • roozbeh

how the heck did you think i got upset?
lineage meaning why you told me were your parents are from?

          • M$ $ony

Dedicated servers that are associated with almost all Xbox One games will fix this issue.

          • Kieran

Microsoft would have to be careful if people have data limits. You can’t just go ahead and render graphics on the cloud. It would be a PR disaster for Microsoft.

          • roozbeh

i have a data cap on my connection and i fail to realize how this is bad.
and dont call me a fanboy

          • Death Dealer

As long as the enhancements are optional, then there won’t be any problem. I’m sure some games are going to require it somewhere down the line, but going over your data limit is your own responsibility, not MS’s.

          • Death Dealer

Fotonic tracing is very complex and requires quite a lot of computing power if you want to do that locally. With this, all your GPU does is compute the local variation on the streamed model.

          • Death Dealer

Yeah, it was demonstrated with latencies up to 1 second and had dynamic bandwith adaptation with the H.264 protocol. Sorry, the current internet clearly can take this for most people.

          • roozbeh

the current internet could run it easily. i wonder how anyone is gonna downplay this now

        • WARLORD

OK say cloud computing for the games dose work and Microsoft makes games that uses it. Won’t these games have to be online all the time to play them? If not will these game look bad if you play offline? I just don’t see how its going to work unless you’re online every time you play a game.

      • Kieran

Post a link i’ll watch the video please. Your going to be downloading graphics. I honestly have my doubts it can be done with the current state of internet infrastructure across the western world.

        • roozbeh

          links cant be posted here.
search it yourself. type nivida cloudlight

          • Kieran

            Ok i will google it

          • Death Dealer

It’s strange, I just tried to post a link without the dots and it didn’t work anymore. MN must have tightened up or it auto deletes YT. Video is 4GgQ0pfNGyc

          • roozbeh

actually that kinda always was the policy on this blog. links and photos cannot be posted

          • Death Dealer

It’s strange though as I did it just last week by just removing the dots from the domain. :(

          • roozbeh

it gets moderated practically all the time.

    • M$ $ony

The GPU in the Xbox One was not overclocked at all. The GPU in both the PS4 and Xbox One are underclocked and the bump that was made to the GPU was merely optimization on Microsoft’s part. You really need to educated yourself on the hardware of the Xbox One and PS4.

    • Nick Peck

Ah yes, someone else clues to how things work. Do some homework before commenting in the future please. The specs are NEVER final up until they are ready to send the unit off to production. Everything is under clocked for many reasons and slowly bumped up to their max spec the manufacturers optimize the software for.

It’s been done this way for everything with a cpu/gpu since forever. Every chip goes through a lot of testing because sometimes they don’t run at max speeds and get down clocked and sold as a cheaper / slower cpu/gpu’s. Nothing in the system is overclocked, heck, it’s probably still not set at the fullest speed the chip is capable of.

    • liam

it isn’t noticeably less powerfull, devs are saying that it is less than 5% more powerfull and that you won’t see differences in the versions.
on the other hand BF4 is better on X1 because X1 uses directx and PS4 doesn’t so PS4 will miss some features.

      • Alex_Atkin_UK

Cloud power might be real but its going to RUIN retro gaming.

Ten years down the line when the cloud servers are mostly offline or re-tasked with the NEXT console, so all cloud functions stop working.

There is also the fact those same games need to work offline too, so the cloud can’t be essential for the game to function. Even for online games, cloud computing means more data going across your broadband. Unless your connection is good that could increase your latency, in a worst case it could actually make online gaming unplayable.

Microsoft are assuming everyone has good broadband like their staff do who are testing the service. Personally my broadband is awesome, but I know plenty of people who just go with the cheapest around and expect it to work. Currently on Xbox 360 that is perfectly fine, but on Xbox One this is going to be a huge problem.

I, too, have been obsessed with The Price is Right since I was a little kid (26 now). I used to fake sick a few times a year just to see it instead of going to school, and then in the summers I would love watching it, but I’ve also always loved staying up late, so I often would get on a schedule where I would stay up until it was on and then go to bed at 11am central when it was over. It was messed up lol.

I didn’t know they ever went on the road, but they’re coming about two hours from me in Minnesota in mid-October, and on a weekend, which is perfect. It doesn’t seem like Drew Carey is the host for these shows though? It seemed to show some other guy. It would be really cool to see that stuff in real life after nearly 20 years of watching it.

  • Kieran

The PS3 caught up eventually to the X box 360. But the price of the PS3, by then, wasn’t the same price as it was at launch. Sony console did not sell all that great for a number of years due to the 600 price tag.

Their market share was effected. This is why Sony made every effort this time to reduce the price of their console.

    • roozbeh

Theres one difference between the ps3 and xbox one. Microsoft already prior launch is trying to improve the console. Sony didn’t because they couldn’t

      • Kieran

XB1 is looking the better console every day. People say they were wrong to roll back on their previous policies for XB1. I don’t agree they are listening to gamers and i feel more confident XB1 will deliver.

The price is still too much at 499 Euros compared to 399 for Sony.

I gladly take 2 years free gold that be around 80 to 90 Euro.

      • BostonSup

Reality is that they were **forced** to change. They didn’t want to at all, if they did then they would have done it when the rumors were still rumors.

There were just too much bad press for them not to fix their mistakes (policy wise and PR wise). The PS4 will outsell the XboxOne considerably, and they will be force to change the price next (or the inclusion of Kinect). When they do that, which should be within a year of release, if not before, then I will most definitely buy it.

        • roozbeh

okay as much as i hated the original policies i must say it had some good benefits. the reality i think is that people never gave it a chance. just like steam at the beginning. people hated it but valve eventually won them over. microsoft though just didnt even risk it and removed them entirely.

          • BostonSup

That was the PR problem. There are cons with digital only/online only, but there are also some pretty big pros. Microsoft didn’t come out early and push the pros of digital/online. When they had that opportunity to discuss it, they said something along the lines of “then buy the 360). Sony took full advantage of it, which didn’t help them either.

On top of writing the narratives themselves early on, they could have reassured gamers by giving them something in return. For example, because people love used games, XB1 games will be $50 and not $60 (publishers and MS will not be missing sales due to used games (if that truly is as big of a problem as they say), so the $10 wouldn’t be as much of a loss, if a loss at all). One reason why used games are huge is because of the savings in money.

          • roozbeh

i agree about the pr problem. don mattrick basicly just ticked off every living gamer in the world. its a problem they should have foreseen. but its happened and they cant change it. they are doing the best they can now. can i hold a grudge against them for it? no.

i agree they could reassured gamers with a price drop a new games. but honesty they should have said there will be price drops sooner then before because i doubt some publishers(EA) would be okay with a decrease of price on new games.(hence why origin exists)

  • Roberto Merino

Yes, the price of PS3 at launch was a steal, everyone can see that, but this doesn’t make the price of the Xbox One right. Let’s say kinect cost about 100€ to produce (more is impossible), this means the console is about 400€, wich is the same price of the PS4 which has better specs, more expensive RAM, more expensive APU, and better overall system performance (around 20%), and it DOES include a headset.

All cloud, servers, and online stuff should be covered with the GOLD fee, as this services are only available to gold members and optionals.

For me the right price would have been about 440€

    • roozbeh

Firstly the kinect does cost more than a 100 bucks thats for sure. Motion sensing, night vision, heat sensing, increased skeleton count etc. Theres no doubt its an expensive piece of tech.
Dude I can confirm at least the cloud storage on xbox one is for all members and is unlimited (ms announced it). Its unlikely that these features that are part of console being put behind a paywall.

      • Jarrichvdv

True, Kinect 2.0 even has night vision.

        • BostonSup

Even though TOTALLY UNRELATED, the fact that it has to be physically connected (but can be shut down by software) and has a mic and night vision will hurt them with many customers after the NSA leaks and Skype leaks. That was just bad timing and luck for Microsoft.

          • roozbeh

give it time. the way its going i think they will remove that requirement too.
seriously though if you think the nsa spying is an issue you really need to analyse everything. smart phones will be a more efficient way of spying dont you think?

          • Jarrichvdv

Thank you for that. The timing was indeed very unfortunate but Microsoft stated they will actively fight against any NSA attempt to gather data through their services.

Digital or Disc…I chuckle at all the collectors who need a disc….the only place for a disc is at a garage sale which is usually where I buy them and whole collections for 5 cents on the dollar and flip them….Think about that…..

    • Monstrous Tard

Stupid logic. You’re telling me i can buy whole physical disc collections for 5 cents on the dollar, when if i bought digitally copies i would pay hundreds of dollars? Yup, buying physical disc just seems horrible….

    • The Yankee

Really? Let’s take a look at your flawed logic…a few months ago I purchased The last of us as well as bischock infinite for 60 bucks a piece…120 total spent…I resold The last of us on eBay for 40 bucks and Bioschock infininate for 35..75 dollars back in my pocket..put that in your pipe and smoke it…

    • Not_A_PC_Gamer

I chuckle at the morons who think the benefits outweight the pros of owning a physical desk. I take it you are one of these kids that only rents games.. never buys, never keeps and sells their the console and games at the end of every generation don’t ya? At least we aren’t throwing our money away like you do. It’s you who I chuckle at! :)

    • roozbeh

As much as I support digital games your idea here is kinda flawed.
Plus there’s nothing wrong with a collector buying discs.
Think about it… its not that bad…

    • StonerSmurf420

Btw, digital can become corrupted…..that cant be repaired but if a disc gets scratched u can get it resurfaced and usualy plays just like the day u bought it….. from my personal experiance.

      • StonerSmurf420

Not sure why my other post didnt show up but I basicly said…. a full digital game (not to mention dlc) takes up atleast 10x the amount of space (on the very low end) as just a save. If u wanna keep throwing money away on always upgradeing to a bigger harddrive and paying more for a year old digital copy than a brand new disc thats your right but I should have the right to be a poor conserveing gamer also being that not every1 is rich enough to just throw money away.

      • roozbeh

You can re download the game if you bought it digital .
If a disc gets scratched too deeply it won’t work

        • StonerSmurf420

          1) on 360 yeah u can redownload without paying a fee but do u realy think they wont charge a fee once they go all digital? 2) discs only get scratches that deep if u dont take care of ur games and if u have that issue often of scratched games period…. u simply shouldnt have games cuz u dont know how to take care of them. Honestly ive only had 1 disc ever that has gotten that scratched and that was cuz a friends kid got at it when the friend barrowed at cuz he didnt put it away.

          • roozbeh

I would really doubt Microsoft wouldn’t allow multiple downloads for free even if they go all digital.
Plus I have friend who had faulty disc tray and all the games he bought got scratched. I myself lost my duke nukem disc (not that im complaining, that game was garbage)

          • StonerSmurf420

You doubt microsoft would do that? Just like ppl doubted that microsoft would charge for multiplayer? A disc tray is very easy and cheep to fix btw…. cheeper than a used game.

          • roozbeh

Yes I would doubt it. The same for all other gaming devices (save for ps3, freaking jerks at sony). Plus didn’t Microsoft itself announce back at ’01 that live is subscription based?
Dude a faulty disc tray is not an easy fix. First if your console is out of it’s warranty period you gotta cough a hundred bucks. That ain’t cheap at all.
Second if you try it fix it yourself you best know what you’re doing or you will bust it even more. Im not gonna risk it.

        • Alex_Atkin_UK

Bluray is almost impossible to scratch by design. If you manage to scratch a Bluray then you are SERIOUSLY negligent with your discs.

          • roozbeh

Im talking about the 360 with the problems it had with dvd.

    • Volitar Prime

Games are getting bigger with each generation. Games on dual layer Blu-ray discs can be up to 50GB. More and more ISPs are putting monthly usage caps in place with high over usage charges. This is what will keep physical media around.

Also, it can take hours (if not a full day or more) to download a very large game depending on your ISP. It can be quicker to just drive to a store and buy the disc.

    • Alex_Atkin_UK

With only a 500GB HDD there is going to be a LOT of deleting games to make space for new ones. Then having to wait for them to download again when you next want to play them will be VERY annoying. Even if you have a 3TB external HDD, the same thing will happen eventually.

We don’t know what speeds Xbox Live will support for downloading games as currently I can’t get above around 17Mbit on Xbox 360 despitegetting 92Mbit on PC and 50Mbit on PSN. So discs are VERY useful to completely bypass that problem.

      • Death Dealer

External harddrives are fair use now without limitations. My friend within MS says it’s coming to the Xbox 360 in the near future as well.

        • Alex_Atkin_UK

I already mentioned that even 3TB would be a problem sooner or later. The fact the issue can be delayed by getting a bigger HDD doesn’t alter the fact that sooner or later, it IS a problem. We do not even know if it will be possible to swap between HDDs or plug in more than one at the same time (though you most likely can).

It doesn’t matter where the bottleneck exists, if it exists it makes digital downloads problematic. It also doesn’t explain why other downloads from Microsoft servers usually max out, its only on Xbox that its restricted.

PSN used to be really slow, it suddenly shot up in speed earlier this year. Its not always that fast, but its always faster than Xbox now.

Bottom line, its far more convenient being able to slap in the disc and play near immediately as it should install much faster than broadband.

  • BostonSup

You are looking at the sale of the system. Microsoft and Sony makes the majority of their money off of software fees, not hardware. Sony may have almost tied in hardware sales, but they were slaughtered in software sales, and that is mostly due to being idiots and selling their system for that original price.

MS will be hurt this generation because of their decision to force the add-on Kinect and sell for a higher price. The Kinect is relatively meaningless for games unless it is a first party game, or 3rd party exercise/dancing game. Multiplatform games will not be including great new features using Kinect, rather maybe voice control and some other cheap/quick feature.

As of right now, the Xbox 360 is making their money mostly from North America. This stupid decision to force people to buy an add-on (on top of their many stupid mistakes that they were smart enough to reverse) will divide their strongest, and really only market, North America.

Love it or hate it, Sony will fiscally hurt Microsoft this generation like Microsoft did with Sony during the last generation. Sony is playing this game smart while Microsoft is making decisions like they just ate lead flakes for breakfast.

Just read your getting rid of the xbox guide, pushing the xbox button takes you too the dashboard straight away but i have a few questions about this, will it take longer to invite someone to party or private chat, is private chat still there and can we still play music whilst playing a game?

    • Death Dealer

No, it won’t take longer, it’s actually faster because all of it is now in dedicated memory and private chat is still there.
The reason why it was so slow on the Xbox 360 was because the guide was basically a smaller version of the full dash without all the functionality directly available (was more like a glorified shortcut list that required loading more into memory when you wanted to do something).
I think MS still holds the active patent for custom soundtracks, so I’d say it’s a safe bet.

      • beardyman3218

        Thanks for the info.

Cant wait to see how many game creators you screw over with the Xbox one, so many with the 360, like Oddworld who spent time and money remaking stranger for the arcade only to be told no as it was published on ps3 first, Mistwalker thrown aside because 360 didn’t sell well in japan, Rare forced to make kinect games to the point now where so many people left they ant even make their own KI ip on their own

Doesn’t surprise me. Honestly, if I didn’t like sony at all (not a huge fan but they have some good stuff) I still wouldn’t take the time to sign up to their sites and troll. I just don’t understand the mentality of people these days.

          • Spargo CXVII

            Roger that.

          • Likmijnballenmaar

I wouldn’t do that either, don’t have the time.
Jim Sterling’s article about PS fanboys described it perfectly some time ago. It’s pure hypocrisy, fear and p*nis envy as they know perfectly well that Sony is down right now and if MS thrives even more this gen, which they will as their target audience is much larger, then Sony will very likely be down permanently and all their investments turned null.
That’s why they blow up every little detail about the Xbox One that looks like a flaw to them as they are scared sh*tless.

          • Nick Peck

I love games, that means I love games on all platforms. I’m not “against” any brand or platform because I PREFER MS / Xbox. I agree with what you said as well, MS has money to burn and sony doesn’t, well they were bleeding money pretty good for the last 10 years but luckily they got smart and sold off what they didn’t need.

Good for them, it’s nice to see them make an actual push for a change and do what they needed to do to save the company.

MS will spend a lot, I mean a lot in marketing / advertising everything XBO, they make deals left and right which shows the commitment they have to the brand they created. I really like all of the options the XBO presents as I will use a lot of them, but they are just that, OPTIONS! So sick of the nay sayers out there that still don’t have all of the correct info lol.

  • Alex_Atkin_UK

Give me one single piece of evidence to backup any of your claims about the PS4 here?

For starters, PS4 appears to be based on FreeBSD, which many regard as one of the best if not THE best kernel out there. It can do anything the Windows kernel can do when it comes to shuffling resources, if not better.

Just because Xbox 360 OS and Xbox Live was world apart from the PS3/Vita experience, doesn’t mean the PS4 will be the same. I don’t expect it to be as good as Xbox Live, but I think it will be a massive improvement over the PS3 and combine that with Playstation Plus and its VERY appealing.

Xbox 360 is my main console right now, but I will be picking up PS4 first this time round as I can get it WITH a game for less than Xbox One alone. Where I go from there depends on the experience but I’m far from convinced the Xbox One improvements are actually enough to make it a good choice.

Now if it turns out Forza 5 supports my Fanatec Forza Wheel and Crackdown 3 comes, now THAT is what will make me rush out and get an Xbox One.

    • roozbeh

Have you heard the rumors that crackdown 3 will be announced at gamescom?
Heck even phil spencer acknowledged it

      • Alex_Atkin_UK

Yes I have, and I’m not saying I wont be getting Xbox One “eventually” either way.

But still, I would be insane not to get PS4 first considering what I get for the money vs Xbox One. That increases the chance of PS4 becoming my primary console next-gen which is something Microsoft should be trying to avoid.

Again, I LOVE how seamlessly Xbox 360 functions compared to PS3 and somehow PS Vita managed to be even worse. But PS4 will automatically come with Drive Club because I already have PSN+, and then I get it with Watch Dogs and still pay less.

Its simple logistics, especially when you consider I will then have to buy a headset/adapter for Xbox One as I don’t trust Kinect 2 to be any better for voice chat than Kinect 1 was. One of the things that MADE Xbox Live what it is today is that everyone got a headset supplied with their console so more people chat than on PSN. Chatting via Kinect is awful and I think its going to ruin the Xbox Live experience.

        • Death Dealer

Drive Club with PSN+ is just a glorified demo version, don’t forget that, it’s not the full version as you will need to pay to unlock it.
I agree with you about the headset though. There should have been one in the box and an adapter for ordinary 3,5″ ones that everyone has.
Nonetheless, I’ll still be getting XBO first and maybe a PS4 later, depending on the exclusives.

          • Alex_Atkin_UK

I am aware about the Drive Club limitations yes, but its still in addition to whatever indie games they include as well. When I got my Xbox 360 with PGR3 I actually spent more time playing a few games I got off XBLA, but over the last couple of years I just haven’t gamed on it as much.

Recently I fell in love with When Vikings Attack on PSN. But even better, it gave me the PS3 and Vita versions AND they are cross-play. I have spent more time on Pinball Arcade, Zen Pinball 2 and other games that are cross-buy/cross-play, buy on PS3 and get on Vita too.

I had expected Microsoft to do something like that YEARS ago but the few games that are available on multiple platforms they continue to expect you to buy twice.

          • Death Dealer

Seriously, you’re citing indie games, when XBLA provides many more games over PSN as the reason to go PS4?
Especially now with the dev kit roll out for indies it’s going to get packed on the Xbox One Store.
XNA has already provided a lot of gems on the Xbox 360 and it’s a real shame it didn’t go to more countries, but this follow up is worldwide and should provide plenty of games.

          • roozbeh

Plus minecraft is still exclusive to xbox on consoles.

          • Alex_Atkin_UK

I have a huge collection of XBLA games on my Xbox 360, but they can ONLY be played on Xbox 360 and some (Pinball Arcade) lost support as they lost their publisher and Microsoft refused to allow them to self publish.

Yes Microsoft are supposed to be allowing a bit of leeway there, but some indies have already confirmed that its still on a case by case basis whereas ANYONE can self publish on PSN. It may end up with some junk on there, but the gems will more than outweigh it.

Like I said, it doesn’t compare to the fact with Pinball Arcade on PS3 I get the Vita version free. Its annoying that I own Pinball FX 2 on Xbox 360 but I have to buy it again to play on Windows 8.

Remote Play on Vita should be fine, its only missing a few buttons and they can be replicated on the front and back touch screen/pads. I understand its not worth the money to buy JUST for that feature, but I already own it so effectively it becomes a freebie.

        • roozbeh

I think I should tell you im buying both but neither at release.
Ps plus version of drive club is not the standard version. Its just a really striped down demo.
Plus I think launch editions of the xbox 360 didn’t have mics.

  • Alex_Atkin_UK

I have heard a lot of that “we won’t notice the difference” and don’t buy it.

Just look at this generation. In many cases games stuttered on PS3 that ran smooth on Xbox 360, due to its weaker GPU.

So even if the PS4 version of games aren’t optimised to take advantage of better graphics we could still end up with the PS4 version running smoother as the GPU will not be running at its limit. For many people a smoother frame rate IS a tangible improvement.

On the other hand, Sony might reduce the GPU clock of the PS4 before launch due to finding it running too hot in such a small case, in the same was Xbox One was able to increase it due to their case being huge so running cooler. It all remains to be seen at this point.

  • beardyman3218

Does anybody know whether payday 2 is gonna release same day digital on xbox live, i just read its digital release same day as retail on steam and ps3 there was no mention of xbox? I’ve got some money sitting on my account so want to use that toward it.

    • Death Dealer

Unfortunately, I don’t think it will. MS hasn’t announced simultaneous digital releases for the Xbox 360 yet, but it’s supposed to be coming when the Xbox One launches for the 360 as well. So I’m afraid it’s not coming in time for PayDay 2, unless MN is willing to correct me.

Does anyone know if there will be new info released on the cable box functions of the One related to compatibility/functionality? I’m sure MS is leery of going down that path again, but a lot of us have some interest in this. Do we know which boxes are compatible, or is it still just Comcast? Will be able to use our cable remote, or do we have to wave/talk? Can I still pause TV, or is that lost?

I’ve been an Xbox user for many years and had one of my favorite gaming experiences playing 1 vs100 on Xbox live several years ago.

Any more multiplayer live game shows on the horizon for Xbox One?
