WAY to much on Super Time Force. I mean the game sounds much better than it played imo. There was much better news you could have covered more of than just this game.

    • Red

Child of Light is an awesome game. It is a RPG with a fantastic story which comes together in the last quarter of the game. And the music is absolutely beautiful.

The combats are turned base with an action bar at the bottom. you can take advantage of that by speeding up your team or slowing the enemies, etc.. A simple system brilliantly executed and really fun.

  • fastharryDOTcom

still not sure about X1 strategy….if you are going to have a stand alone unit, undercut the PS4…Bring Sony to it’s knees. and the best option would have been to reduce the kinect package to just a shade over 400 and tout “XBOX, BEST value in gaming…all they have done now is upset people and made a weaker system (in the public eye) the same price.

BIG rule in business…when times are tough you advertise more!…Bring Value to the package!….

    • http://xxkarzaxx.tumblr.com/ Karza

In Australia they are undercutting the PS4.That’s more to do with the fact that the PS4 was $150 more than America’s price and the Xbox One was only $100 more than the American price.

Even with the Kinect the Xbox One is better value here. It’s $50 more than the PS4 but you get the Kinect and 2 games. The PS4 comes with no games,at least I’ve never seen a bundle that includes games for it.

    • Death Dealer

I agree, undercut the PS4 and bring on the games. That way the value will be there for the consumer until everything is sorted out on the software side and the coming lineup looks better on Xbox One IMO. They could bring Sony to its knees, the company is basically dying with another huge loss coming this year and the portable half of PlayStation, the Vita is basically dead looking at the sales reports.
All of us, however, don’t want to lose the competition going on as it is for the best (for consumers at least).
MS just doesn’t want to lose ANY money on the Xbox One it seems, which is their right I suppose and makes business sense, but this could all be a huge change for the worse if the Xbox One doesn’t sell more. Adding a download code for a game in the same $399 package would already up the value considerably and MS wouldn’t lose much on that per unit (Titanfall for example).
We’ll just have to wait and see how this uncoupling of the Kinect turns out, the entry price was just quite a lot higher than the competitor and might as well have been corrected by just dropping the price to $399 with Kinect. Had they made the decision before the launch, like many of us here warned with all the NSA paranoia, at least MS wouldn’t have looked weak now.
They can still continue their vision with Kinect, just optional.
I hope this all turns out in their favor but you make a good point about the price IMO.

      • fastharryDOTcom

maybe they would a little…but again, another business adage comes to mind…Success breeds Success….take a little loss, get more units in customers hands, build the user base and with that more people will JUMP IN as they see the XB1 being successful….at that point any loss will be negated by fees and game profits..

It is basic business strategy that applies to ANY business large or small…

      • Nick Peck

For anyone worried about any of the BS NSA stuff should have been punched in the face for being a total idiot lol.

    • Red

In Canada, with this strategy they are undercutting PS4 big time. For some reason Sony has done exactly the opposite and has increased the price of the PS4 by 50$ after launch to 450$ a few months ago.

So here you can get a kinectless xbox one for 400 or a bundle with kinect and a game for 500. In both cases, it is a better offering than the PS4 at 450 which comes with nothing.

    • Jedi Dna

In Brazil xbox one WITH kinect cost half of ps4 price tag.
Since Sony doesn’t seem to respect its customers so its a great opportunity to MS.

      • usrev

60%+ of the ps4 cost in brazil is import taxes. are you actually from brazil? Brazil wants to make sure manufacturing jobs stay in their country, and being the most populous in south america it’s a significant market. this almost forces companies to build planets in brazil, meaning more jobs for them. basically, brazil wants to be a mini china, and to do that they tax the heck out of anything that is build out of country then imported.

        • Jedi Dna

Sir your information is not correct. Brazil charges up to 100% in taxes, but sony charged 300%. Major brazillian media networks asked import specialist from a major brazillian bussiness school and they comfirmed that sony was beeing plain greedy. If you want check by yourself in the globo website. Sony was so greedy that if I buy a ps4 from amazon (USA) with international delivery and pay all import taxes it will cost less than half the price sony is asking here in Brazil.

      • Liquidfx Xboxdude

sony takes a loss with almost everything they do for their customers so if anything they are just stupid but not disrespectful.

        • Jedi Dna

No they don’t! They are not a charity company so don’t fool yourself, every single thing they “do” for their customers is going to raise the company profit. Or at least thats their intention.
Anyway they don’t do much for their customers round here. For instance, Brazilian Psplus users only started to get their “free” games now, after the ps4 launch.
In Brazil sony’s strategy is entirely different from their Us strategy.
In Brazil EVERY sony product is overpriced.
Sony’s strategy round here resembles apple’s (everywhere).
The thing is this time around they just overdid it!
I don’t see how asking US$1700 for a US$800 product (ps4 us retal price + brazillian import taxes) is not disrespectful. Thats just as disrespectfull and greedy as it gets.

        • beardyman3218

The only thing they sold at a loss was the ps4, the ps3 was sky high when released and their TV’s are way overpriced for what they offer that also goes for their phones.

    • usrev

it’s not a weaker system in the public eye, it IS the weaker system. don’t fool yourself about it.

they should have had this setup from the start. xbox actually had a decent lineup of exclusives for once, but the price being $100 more, being a weaker system, and the drm bs they tried to push nailed their coffin. they are playing catch up just as they have been since before they even announced the thing. it’s sad to see how far xbox has fallen.

  • LeTHaL MiGRaiNe

I’m on the side of the kinect people who want refunds. Kinect works great, however, it takes up unnecessary space, is relatively useless, and Xbox promised time and time again there would never be a sku without kinect. Either Xbox needs to start a kinect trade in for the 100$ difference, or they need to credit all early adopters with 100$ in their Microsoft Wallet or whatever it’s called. It’s irresponsible and reckless of Microsoft/Xbox to take advantage of their customers like they have since they announced the Xbox One.

    • kvfive

Perfectly put. Read, listen & act M$ !!

    • digitallife

I think the biggest issue at hand is that those who may have waited to buy until there was a kinect free sku ended up buying when we heard that such a thing would never exist. There is the big issue to have with this. I love my kinect but I can totally understand people who felt they were misled. In the end the more consoles they sell the better it is for all of us as more and more developers churn out games for the system.

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

i kind of agree but then again i knew what i was getting before i bought it as far as kinect goes. however, it doesn’t work even as good as the first one so that is what bothers me the most.

  • Holesome

    Larry,

I’m ok with a new SKU without Kinect for those who can’t afford the extra cost of extra equipment and for the people who really don’t want Kinect. Perhaps I embrace and adapt to technology better than others as I use Kinect for voice commands all the time and look forward to future improved functionality and accuracy.

Also, I enjoy listening to your podcasts as they are up-beat and positive which is in stark contrast to the all-to-common forum posters who’s primary reason to exist seems to be to find fault and complain about anything and everything. Keep up the good work Larry.

Kinect User Control Suggestion: Use a Closed Hand push for selection rather than an open hand push. This way the closed hand will lock onto the button and the left/right/up/down movement while pushing forward won’t have any impact on the selection. This method will significantly speed up presses and accuracy without a dramatic change to the user control.

PS: Many have requested refunds but I find this necessary for myself. As an early adopter as I knew what I was getting into when I purchased the console 6 months ago. Even if I didn’t want Kinect I man enough to take responsibility for my purchase decisions and don’t blame the manufacturer.

    • Death Dealer

Yes, refunds for the Kinect are unrealistic. The Xbox Live refunds are already a large act of good will. People should have just held off on their purchase if they were against the Kinect so much, then MS would have probably announced this SKU sooner as the only thing that made this happen is losing substantial sales and marketshare, like many of us said in the past.

      • beardyman3218

The good thing is I love my kinect and now if it breaks after the warranty date I can buy a replacement from a local store. No one should be given a refund they made the choice to buy it. Its like buying a pair of headphones and then 6 months later because you don’t use them asking for a refund, the entitlement people expect these days is beyond me.

    • Some guy

I doubt they really care about getting a refund for their NSA box they never used, they’re just mad at the price drop, just like every price drops.
I bought a 20gb 360 for 400$ or something and now you get a 250gb for 250$, of course i’d like to get a free upgrade but that’s silly and won’t happen, ever.

  • CDMAss

Refund Kinect? This is impossible especially you are dealing with MS here.

    • Jedi Dna

      Easy! sell it on ebay

  • Derek D

I LOVE MAJOR NELSONS PODCAST, how often does he do them? They feel really inconsistent to me? I’m sorry, I know I really need to just subscribe on iTunes, but I’ve been somewhat lazy with my iPod as of late.

    • Death Dealer

Normally once a week unless his schedule is busy, which around this time of year is quite a lot of the time.

    • digitallife

Dude I found a google play app that just auto updates when he does them, saves me a bunch of time having to search when he, ign and others update their podcast. It’s called GamerCast and it’s free, use it you have an android device or if it interests you.

  • digitallife

Not sure if i’m alone in this but has anyone been timing out of titanfall faster than normal? It felt like if I was idle for three or so minutes I was getting bounced out. I’m glad tho that they are so heavily updating the software and fixing things, at least we are moving in the right direction.

  • Mark Easy

Would be nice to be able to log into microsofts health vault on xbox one. Also using jawbone up24.

  • beardyman3218

Please update the twitch app so we can stream with custom privacy settings and an option to stop it notifying my whole friends list that I am streaming. Also an “update” on the next system update would be great now that the little tweaks are out pof the way surely the big ones are next e.g. external HDD support and dnla along with blu ray 3d.

  • tenbob1972

    as usual great PD .
it seems that guys like me that bought the xbox one before the new sku were screwed over.
me myself did not want Kinect and i made this point many time on this site from Oct 13 to Nov 13 .
I could barley afford the £425 the system cost me but as a fan of the Xbox brand I put up with this.

now if that would have been that then fair play i would /did except it.
but we were told that their was never going to be a SKU were the system would be sold without the Kinect.

    This was a lie simple.

now Microsoft gets lot’s of bad press although for the most part they do look after their customers .
it would be nice if the people who bought their system early on for instance like me on launch day are given something extra as we were lied too and if it was not for us these system would stuck in a warehouse somewhere rotting and costing Microsoft Millions.
maybe an extra controller or a free game download or maybe Xbox live free for a year.
these things would not be large sacrifices for Microsoft as if you do the maths the 5 millon unit that sold with Kinect netted Microsoft around 500 million pounds ( don’t know what that is dollars).
and as for the stuff that Microsoft is now doing as far as Live apps and games for gold are only they more less had to because the competition namely Sony are kicking Microsoft’s arse. they have a better spec system and up-to june 9th a lower priced one too and to date cross plats have all ran better on Sony’s hardware.

so do the right thing by your customers and make them happy give the early adopters some free stuff that worth having i mean old billy boy can afford it .

    • Magnus Mad Krantz

Microsoft never said that there never would be a Kinect less SKU. Thay only said “Not right now”. If you really thought that there would never be a SKU without the kinect then you were a fool.

      • tenbob1972

well here’s what Phil Harrison, Microsoft corporate vice president has to say on that

        CVG:
A quick word on Kinect – I presume there will never be an Xbox One sold
without it. You are doing this for developer-related reasons as much as
your own. You want all developers to know that they can always
implement Kinect technology because it always comes with every system.
        Would that be correct?

        Harrison:
Correct. Xbox One is Kinect. They are not separate systems. An Xbox One
has chips, it has memory, it has Blu-ray, it has Kinect, it has a
controller. These are all part of the platform ecosystem.
        What we
have shown really well at Gamescom is the magic of games that use
Kinect. We have shown the power of voice control. I’m probably going to
piss off your readers unintentionally when I say this; I have an Xbox
One at home, and being able to walk in and say “Xbox on”, and for the
system to recognise me, launch and load my profile, and put my choices
of content on the font page is a very magical experience. It makes you
think about your relationship with technology in a slightly different
way. It’s personal. It makes you think, I wish more devices would do
        this.

Xbox UK marketing chief Harvey Eagle

There are no plans to drop Kinect from Xbox One, Microsoft has reaffirmed.

        Speaking to Eurogamer,
Xbox UK marketing chief Harvey Eagle said, “[A Kinect-less Xbox One] is
not in our plans at all. As we’ve said from the very beginning, we
believe Kinect is an absolutely integral part of the Xbox One
        experience.”

        “Look at all the
thousands and thousands of game clips that have been posted by gamers to
Upload Studio, of their gaming highlights, captured by speaking the
words ‘Xbox record that’, which has already become part of Xbox
vocabulary. It’s a really great example of how Kinect makes the
experience on Xbox One even better,” he elaborated.

In addition to this, Eagle also added that more Kinect-oriented games will be announced at this June’s E3.

“Obviously E3 is a key moment in time where we’ll make a bunch of
announcements about what’s coming up in the months ahead of E3, and

        • Nick Peck

I guess in hindsight you should have waited then, huh? You, me and everyone else that bought an XBO day one are not owed anything. Next time, don’t be an early adopter. I also don’t get why everyone thinks because there will be a kinectless version, that it’s dead and won’t be supported anymore…. It will be (although I could personally careless for motion games). I only like the Kinect for everything else you can do with it.

Just stop worrying about it and enjoy what you have right in front of you. I also doubt you were expecting 200 AAA Kinect games in the first place lol. Play games, have fun.

          • tenbob1972

            hi mate
if you read all of my post i never said that they owed us .
            i did say
it would be nice if the people who bought their system early on for instance like me on launch day are given something extra as we were lied
            too

and i stand by what i said

what i have a problem with is being told one thing that influences my buying decisions only to be told that now we changed out minds and it’s though.

if they had said that at some later date we would consider selling the system with out Kinect then i would have waited.

as for the kInect i said in oct 13 and sept13 i did not want it and am in my 40′s and i did not want or have any interest in games were i wave my arms about like an idiot.

well the same is true and if i had been able to buy the system without Kinect i would have use the extra £100 TO BUY GAMES OR A SECOND CONTROLLER.

now as for the functionality of the Kinect i say

softly my normal voice level “Xbox on” and nothing happen so i say louder “Xbox on” and nothing happen till i get fed up and shout “Xbox for god sake turn on” and it still does nothing so i end up using the controller same when i say Xbox record i have to say it a number of times before it works and by then what the point?.

it’s not just my unit my two of friends units do the same and we have gone through the setup and the Kinect can hear us ok and they are set to instant on.
and some times it reconizes me and sign me in and some time it does not.

the Kinect does not work the way it should and when you read up on it most are having the same problems.

now when i see the ads on TV for Xbox it work first time so that’s kind of what i expected but it does not . so like i said it would be nice if Microsoft was to give us something extra as they made us buy a piece of rubish that does not work reliably out of the box .

    • ryder4life22187

There’s always a chance you take by being an early adopter. Nobody forced you to buy the XB1 with that kinect, as you could have waited a bit to see if kinect would be a success. Ms is doing this because they can’t sell their units and according to reports they are considering halting production of new units. I’m not sure why you all think you deserve something extra. MS is the king of bundle and bundless options. I don’t think i seen another company that has put out so many bundle and bundless option with the 360. I bought the PS4 and no matter what they decide to bundle with it this year do i think I deserve something, as that’s what happens when your an early adopter. Next gen I suggest you sit it out for a year, as their is no need to beg for something extra.

      • tenbob1972

as you could have waited a bit to see if kinect

this is true but i could also wait till the end of the world or till i buy a winning lottery ticket. but what i have a problem with is being told one thing that influences my buying decisions only to be told that now we changed out minds and it’s though.

    • Some guy

Maybe they will do something, like give a half a dollar for your trouble and a nice internet card.
But that’s what you get for being a post 2010 MS fan: disappointment.

      • tenbob1972

the thing is your more than likely right.
i think that Microsoft has got complacent and with the 360 being such a success they assume that this is going to carried over.

Sony and Nintendo have all done the same in their time and it cost them.

you know the guys at Microsoft are generally some of smartest guy’s
on the planet and as such you think that they would see what happen with it’s competitors and make sure that they did not have the same problems.

but they haven’t and that why they have got loads of pissed off Xbox one users and more importantly loads of unsold Xbox ones.

i think they seem to think that this year all will be forgiven but if they don’t take steps now it’s all over just like with dreamcast.

Anyway i don’t honesty think that we (that is we the loyal fans) will get any love from Ms and they won’t do anything to make amends after all they got my/our moneys now .

    • Liquidfx Xboxdude

i agree with you on the fact that ms lied about not being able to have x1 sold without kinect. they straight up lied about that one.

    • Professor Oak

Entitlement. Entitlement everywhere. Xbox One bundled with free games, you day owners what free games, console gets sold w/o connect $100 less (fair as the Kinect bumped the price up) you still want stuff. I saw this coming since day 1, they could not keep up the Kinect being shoved down our throats. They would loose to much, they could just as easily unboxed Xbox ones, separated the Kinect, and sold them individually if they wouldn’t sell, Microsoft has so much money. You could have waited. You got your money’s worth.

  • Magnus Mad Krantz

Dear Microsoft. For both Xbox One and Xbox 360. I would like to have an app that shows me who is and Xbox gamer in my surroundings. Like near me were I live and so on and so on. And Skype for Xbox 360 too.

    • ImTheMetalLord

      STALKER!!!!

      • StudioMultimédia Gon’Interacti

come on, it’s would be a nice feature. When you reach a certain age it’s not as comon as you think to find serious gamer and having an opt-in app that would help you find new friend in your surrounding is cool.

BF4 kinda do that with leader board per city

        • beardyman3218

Its a terrible idea not to mention a breach of privacy.

          • Fred

Definitely an opt-in feature, but looking at the way the Vita does the “Near” feature it does have some potential. Just don’t display the players actual location, but maybe proximity.

The feature I want is a kind of “want to play” queue, ie a way to say “here are the games I’d like to play online”. Then when someone else has the same thing you can be notified. There are lots of older, or not as popular games that I’d like to try online, but having to wait for another player is annoying. Why not provide a way to connect those with similar interests?

          • beardyman3218

I miss the beacon feature that was on xbox360, were you say you want to play a certain game with friends and when a friend loads up the same game you are both notified.

          • Fred

I didn’t realize this was not available on the Xbox One. Still, that only works with friends. What I’d prefer is something that also helps connect people and build a community, not just connect with friends one already has. Then again, I’m old, and not playing COD, so it’s harder to find people who might have an interest in some of the “off-peak” titles.

          • beardyman3218

I understand. If its an opt in feature I’m all for it even though I won’t use it , I realise other people would.

    • Fred

That is a GREAT idea! You could connect with local people, maybe eventually leading to game tournaments, who knows? As an optional feature, it has a lot of potential.

  • John Smith

Updated, and still no option to auto-boot to full-screen TV (aka Wife Mode). Not having this at release has created some serious animosity towards the Kinect in family settings.

    • Nick Peck

Doubt that’s high on the list vs. everything else they are working on but I’m sure at some point they will add that in.

  • x$NIPERx

Anyone know the sales for tomorrow?

    • ImTheMetalLord

Nothing yet…..however back on the 16th there was a price reduction.

      Bellator: MMA Onslaught – $4.94 – 67% off Was $14.99

Not announced anywhere and not sure how long it will be on sale.

      • x$NIPERx

I picked up Bellator: MMA Onslaught last time it was on sale since I’m a fight fan but it really wasn’t worth the sale price tbh. Hmm I’m so ready to cash in these bing rewards. lol

      • ryder4life22187

Majors Tweet to the right says it will be on sale til friday

    • ImTheMetalLord

      TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 – Gold Price: $6.79 – 66% off
      Saban’s Power Rangers Super Samurai – Gold Price: $12.49 – 50% off
      Eternal Sonata – Gold Price: $5.09 – 66% off
      ENSLAVED™ – Gold Price: $5.09 – 66% off
      SOULCALIBUR®II HD ONLINE – Gold Price: $9.99 – 50% off

      • Professor Oak

Soul Calibur 2 HD is worth a pick up for the Nostalgia. Even though I got it on sale for 4.99. I would say 9.99 is worth it. Especially if you enjoy local vs. Fighting

        • JackPackage

Whilst I agree that it is worth $9.99. As you stated, it has been on sale before for a far cheaper price. Somebody would have to be stupid to purchase it for $9.99, when it has been on sale for $4.99 before, and will be again at some point.

I would ABSOLUTELY advise people to NOT buy it at this price.

Also; I find it ridiculous that the fans along with xbldb are the ones that have to post the new sales online. As if it is far too difficult for Microsoft to muster up the effort to post a short blog post the day before, letting people know what will be on sale.

          • Shakeslikecrazy

I’d think it’s because of xbldb (and people copy-pasting it here) that MS wouldn’t bother posting it on time.
Major is just busy working towards E3. The list will come later today.

  • MrRadiolips

I know this has nothing to do with this but i dont care anymore. I’ve been repeatedly asking for months when the X1 controller will have compatibility to P.C. PLEASE can you have atleast one reply about this. People like me have been nothing but patient.

    • http://www.kevin-fell.co.uk/ Kevin Fell

Phil Spencer tweeted yesterday IIRC saying it was a priority for him too so I’m sure it’ll happen.

      • MrRadiolips

        Thanks.

With all the talk about MS taking GPU power from the Kinect, I sure wish they would clarify their position on this. As of now, can we assume either:

    1) The Kinect will become undepowered/bricked

    OR

    2) Those of us still using the Kinect will get poorer game performance than those who do not

The kinect will function the same as it does now as the power from the GPU is not needed to function with the ui, it is only needed for kinect games, so when you load up a kinect game the reservation from the gpu will be given to kinect, the only resulting factor would be the kinect games would take an extra few seconds to load. But I agree ms need to come out and tell people this.

I’m glad to hear there will here be a lot more kinect titles, but the proof will be if there is any on the stage or show floor at e3

Kinect gets dropped, and people at Rare get fired. The studio couldn’t have been that big to begin with, what with only making Kinect games. Doesn’t look bright for a Rare game like perfect dark or battletoads reboot.

If I were an MS boss, I would have asked who thought the Kinect Rivals “Coach” character yelling at the player ad nauseum, was a good idea, along with all the supporters of that idea, and fired them all. News flash, gamers don’t like to get yelled at. Nobody likes to get yelled at…

Don’t let your VP push you around :-) Some of your fans enjoy a modest amount of off-topic conversations such as puppy-talk, toilet-talk, iOS-talk, etc. It helps dispel a little bit of the corporate shill image that official spokespersons have.

Of course, I have my preferences….as a vegetarian I tend to ignore the smoker-talk, brisket-talk, etc.

You might want to invite Chris Chamberlain or one of the other Platform Biased people onto your show. You helped launch their podcast & it might be nice to recognize their accomplishments as their podcast ends.
