If you play Games for Windows titles, you'll want to head over and grab the free update for the Games for Windows LIVE client. Some new features include a Marketplace and improved account management directly the guide. Grab it here, and discuss it in the G4W forums here.
am I missing something or could you not see your live friends on the windows client? I installed just to check it out but there is no friends area. thought 1.0 had friends.
Cool, hopefully better Windows 7 support.
I'll be sure to check it out.
I downloaded and installed it but it crashes upon opening.....what gives??? anyone else encountered this??.
"links the game license to your Gamertag"
Sounds like it's designed to zero out the resale value of physical discs.
I like the color change up, it would cool to see the friends list though
You can probably see friends while playing a actual Games for Windows Live game but just in the client you cannot. Still a great tool nonetheless and I think it will help GFWL if they get more content on their like exclusive demos like they have the for the 360 with the Exclusive Demo Days promos.
I noticed something else to the gamercard using the old gamercard durring the xbox dash preview the Gamercard has seen some really cool changes reflective on the dash Gamer profile but not yet onlive on the web yet.
looks like Games for Windows - LIVE UI gonna need another update when the Online gamercard info gets updated
Meh. Give me a standalone client that's more like an actual client (able to log in to my account, send & check text and voice messages, etc) and less like a glorified browser to the G4WL Marketplace website, and then I'll get excited.
I was impressed that the GFWL client update popped up on its own via the Windows Update in Windows 7.
Why am I always pleasantly surprised when things work exactly as they should?
My Windows 7 must hate me.....i didn't get a pop-up Evil :( hahaha
Also noticed individual achievements now have date stamps when you look at them in the guide....maybe that was there before and i was blind to it idk lol. Anyway, G4WL is slowly catching up to XBL, good thing :)
Yeah, its still seems pretty much the same to me, but now it's gray. There is so much potential here guys, step it up already.
I want a GFW client that allows me to voice chat with my Xbox friends while I am on my PC.
This update adds nothing interesting. The interface is still cluncky and not suited for PC. Quicksilver you could do that from the day the service launched.
Nice new features, but I'll never warm up to the service (especially since Steam does everything I need). I like being able to message with my XBL friends, but to me GFWL just seems like a big ploy by Microsoft to slowly convince PC users to pay for microtransactions like map packs (something that should ALWAYS be free). At least they weren't able to convince the PC audience that they need to pay for the "privilege" of playing games online, lol.
This software is lightyears behind Steam. Why can't I play my Xbox Live arcade games online? Why can't I buy arcade games to play on my PC from the GFW software? The messaging comment people say is true. Get to work Microsoft because you can catch up but you need to work fast. I like that 360 controllers can work on PC but this isn't what people want.
"Why can't I play my Xbox Live arcade games online? Why can't I buy arcade games to play on my PC from the GFW software?"
1: I dunno if it's just your wording or not but, you have gold don't you, where's the problem, if it is your wording then it ties with what's below.
2: Because it's XBOX Live Arcade and not Games for Windows Live Arcade, that's why, it'd also be much easier to pirate Arcade titles if they were on PC.
I love how the games for windows live activation limits were not fixed for older games and how you still have no way to revoke an activation on them.
For those of you not in the know google
GFWL and
"Can't sign in because you've exceeded the usage allowed by your product key. Please enter another product key."
Is GFW compatible with Party Chat yet???
Cool now fix Halo 2 Vista.
The PC gaming community isn't happy with it, that's about all I can say.
Id rather wait... Until the new xbox 360 update hits august 9th. Befor I install this.
@Tecchie NeXt Why should worrying about piracy prevent Microsoft from expanding Xbox Live Arcade to PC? If Valve can be running Steam and combat piracy then Microsoft surely can. In typical Microsoft fashion, they seem to be behind the times (see browser wars, console wars, media player wars, music format wars, web office productivity software).
@DevilTriggerEX
I'm mainly a Games for Windows LIVE user aka PC gamer and I am happy with the new update. So maybe you should rephase your comment. Even through I have a 360, over 50% of my gaming time is on a PC, mainly with LIVE games.
I noticed this in Windows Update.
I also noticed an update to the Wireless Receiver drivers. Can you tell us what that was for? The "more details" link just went to a guide about driver signing.
Still no wireless (Lips) mic for Windows, though. And yet I still think Microsoft adversities it as being compatible with all Xbox 360 wireless peripherals.
