Microsoft released Windows Live Writer today (http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/blog/cns%21D85741BB5E0BE8AA%21174.entry). Live Writer is a web app that does word processing - currently targetted at the blog space but with other serious potential. To simply call it a blog authoring tool is really misleading - it's got support for map publishing, image uploading capabilities, has an API/SDK if you want to extend it, integrates with other popular blogs, and of course has a nice WYSIWYG interface among other things. It's an impressive application - the first very impressive module in the new Windows Live suite/platform that I've seen so far. Some of you may remember JJ Allaire? Well, in addition to founding Allaire Corp. (the company that created and owned ColdFusion for so many years) and doing some other interesting innovative work, he is also the architect of Writer (in fact, he also penned the announcement linked to at the begining of this post). I haven't played around or looked at Live Writer in too much depth just yet, but what I've seen, I've liked. You should check out the bloging template in Word for Office 2007 (beta 2 or later). You get all of the power of composing in Word and all of the popular blogging services are supported for posting to.

I am working on the show.....it's not done yet. It will be up after 9:30p PT (about an hour and half from now) Any files you may have grabbed are not complete :)

Works great with live spaces and offers functions not normally available like spell check and fonts.
