I personally don't want to buy to many more $60 games.
Let me explain:
Take basketball for example:
I would like to be able to buy a 5 on 5 simulation engine from 2k for $15.
If I need the online, i'll pay extra
Franchise, extra.
NBA players NO THANK YOU.
Simply though, it's going to take the MarktPlace and varying price structures before these alternate methods to get gaming experiences with more choice arrive.
I agree, boycott DLC that dosen't have value, but don't go around saying it should be in there already or free for DLC; especially something like this, which has not been tapped by games before.
Don't throw out the baby with the bath water

Your argument does not hold up. According to what you posted:

"More things standard=more developement=more$$."

I can see what you mean, but what defines a standard? 1999 vs 2001? 2001 vs 2003? 2001 vs 2005? There has to be an acceptable standard of what is considered "a complete gaming experience".

You know what? At what point did "the industry" decide that videogaming from 1981-2004 did not exist?

In the old days, had the replay editor been not included, it would have made an appearance in the following year to fanfare and press. What is the difference between this and "the hit stick"? How would you feel if "the hit stick" was 300 points?

Second, this talk of "budget increases" is PURE BULLSHIT. Not ONE company has had the balls to crack open the books for one of their games to prove this. NOT ONE. Perhaps if you stopped hiring rappers for gamers, perhaps if you stopped paying top dollars to recording artists and rather implement "custom soundtracks" for games (which if I remember, was supposed to be in every game, just like XBL content), perhaps if you stopped throwing lavish parties with porn stars and your best friends in tow, prehaps if you watched the budgets like normal people do, you would actually keep the costs in line.

But no, "the industry" is just one big party to some people. Elitism indeed. How about taking some of that money and making sure your coders don't ship half finished games with no decent multiplayer (Saints Row and COD2 for the first two and a half months)? But enough of this "games costs are rising" garbage. How about we compare "rising game costs" to "bonuses for head of development" and "party at E3 with Vivid Video" and see which ones have risen the fastest?

Also, just what are running your code on? Cray Ones all banked in a warehouse? At some point you DO rotate hardware, but you can't tell me companies spend tons on hardware because they don't. Just like "game jounalists" spend full price for their titles. They don't do that either.

No, the only "rising costs" here is the increase in prices of lesser quality titles at RETAIL. Not anywhere else. Or can you explain to me how Fry's can pretty much offer any game in its opening week for 10 dollars less then anywhere else? Shouldn't that break Frys? Of course not, because the cost is ALREADY INFLATED.

Customer gets screwed. EA, 2k, et al. get rich. No, that "standard" will NOT be accepted. How about some fiscal responsibility for the work a company like EA does?

Until I see something NOT stadiums, NOT uniforms, NOT something that should be in a FULL RETAIL TITLE (this), NOT soldiers (Samuari Warriors 2), NOT relit levels (GRAW), and NOT cars (GTHD?) then we can not relly talk if this content is actually worth paying for. Because I am not an idiot, and I will be damned if anyone thinks I am. Because I will take the time to prove you wrong.

And to anyone who says, "do you even play this game?": Maybe not THIS game, but if this keeps going there WILL a game I WANT that they will do this to.

No, we help everyone, greedy suits be damned. To 2K sports: Nice try, and IT IS DIFFERENT than the EA crap, but next time give us something we have not seen in some form already on the last-gen machines.

And Tiger 2007 and FIFA 2007 are REALLY, REALLY going to piss a bunch of people off.

re: NBA 2K7: Reelmaker

"Gorbachev, if you could get games for less than $60 because they don't have the extra features you won't use, but only the features you will, would that be good?"

Well, yes, it would.

However, that's not what's happening. Instead 2K Sports and EA are selling the game at full price, and then trickling in "additional" paid content afterwards.

re: NBA 2K7: Reelmaker

http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/ea/ea-sports-plan-for-marketplace-microcontent-205705.php

Hooray!

Makes perfect sense. Why risk deadlines with the game you planned for, when you can "hold back" on those assets you were going to include in the game anyway and then charge gamers for them? The game comes in on time and you can charge the same price you were going to charge for it anyways.

I get the feeling this is just the tip of the iceberg, although GT HD has proved this wrong by having the worst possible microtransaction scenario ever conceived.

re: NBA 2K7: Reelmaker

You people are precious.

$5 for a new feature that without Marketplace would've been included in the retail package for free.

Hurray for greed!

You know, typically competition provides consumers a better product. But it's just interesting to see how 2K Sports and EA don't seem to compete at all, instead they're copying each others' modus operandi and shovel buggy, unfinished roster updates to us and then charge extra for every horse armor in the game.

This is exactly the reason why for the 2nd year in a row I am not buying a NHL game. Instead I picked a used copy of NHL 2K6 for $18. Not a penny of that went to 2K Sports. I'm tempted to do the same thing with the NBA games.

And LOL at people ripping EA for this - it's hilarious that EA's reputation is so bad now that anyone automatically associates any ripoff with them.
